Oh come on, it's KC...  it's got...  Uhm...  Hmmm.

Oh wait, it's got this really cool...  Uhm...  No, wait.

OK, they suck, sorry.

The Pens thing was basically saying they don't need public funding because a gambling group's backing a lot of it I guess...  I didn't catch all the details but it's a huge push forward.  It's forcing politicians to sorta give the slots license to Lemieux's group or there'll be hell to pay publicly.

It'd be huge for uptown in Pittsburgh which would have a nice retailing, office, nightlife complex plus the arena would be a huge improvement to the city...  Downtown's getting a new skyscraper supposedly to be done by 2008 so the whole core of the city is looking to get a facelift much like the North Shore has gotten (where the Stadiums are at on the other side of the river from downtown/uptown).

Good stuff really...  We just need a mall built into the buildings downtown like Indianapolis had, and some improved mass transit like our T, but expanded to the North/East/West instead of focused on the South...  That'd be a big help.

Anyway, things are looking a lot brighter for the Pens and the arena, though they'd been on the positive side for a while.  Now if the Pens can just get on track to win games, cut the fat, and build their Defense...  It'll be great.

The Original Trilogy / Re: OT "Alien" Names: Old School or New School?
« on: December 22, 2005, 12:57 AM »
For the curious, and those who aren't as well, the name "Hammerhead" still exists in SW lore, it's just considered a derogatory term for the species...  Kind of interesting I think.  I believe West End Games ran with that ball and it is fun keeping it part of Star Wars to call an Ithorian a "Hammerhead", but of course they have names too...

I call them both by their EU and Kenner names at times...  And Greedo was Brocolli Man to me because that's what I knew him as when I was little.  Didn't even have that name on his card, it just was what I knew him as before SW was something I got into at all.

Toy Reviews / Re: New JD Review: Anakin Skywalker "Sith Eyes"
« on: December 22, 2005, 12:50 AM »
Heh, good way to explain the feeling...  The Sith Eyes saved this figure from obscurity for me.  It was one I hadn't bought yet and I'm waiting to get many of the other ROTS's at Toy SHows loose for on the cheap.  It's inevitable that it will go that route I believe. :)

When I saw the eye variant though I got it just to have Ani with those spooky eyes...  My Evolution Anakin suits all other ROTS Anakin needs and is the figure they should be re-releasing throughout the line...  Of course that's just my opinion and Hasbro will re-use the figure I reviewed probably, if not the Mustafar Duel figure.   ::)

I've been thinking of doing that with some Bly's just to mix up his little group...  He needs some more grunts than I can put together with the non-existant Evolutions sets around here.  Paint differences aside I think some simple binocular removal would have made cool grunts...

I was thinking of just leaving the binocs on my reds and greens like it's just their standard gear but really I may do that with some of them too.  Greens were abundant here for a little while so I got a nice dozen or so of them...  Reds were less abundant unfortunately.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: TOMY Remote Control R2-D2 at SWS.com
« on: December 22, 2005, 12:45 AM »
They're an absolute blast to roll around a hard floor or table...  I can attest to that.  I reviewed the R2-D2 so if you want some opinion it's around somewhere, but yeah it was fun to mess with.  :)

THe packaging is nice to keep too and I'm not much of a packaging fan...  I don't usually even comment much on it, but for stuff like VOTC, Evolutions, and these RC Astromechs it's definitely worth a nod.

I can imagine someone making a Death Star obstacle course for the black astromech...  :)

I somehow wish Tomy was doing unique paintjobs after R2-D2 though, rather than duplicating paintjobs Hasbro's already covered.  Like make a black with yellow markings Imperial astromech just for diversity's sake...  Or a totally unique color from the films perhaps.  Just something different that Hasbro wouldn't do (since it seems to be like pulling teeth to get them tod o what was actually in the films in the first place).

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Peg/Shelf Space
« on: December 22, 2005, 12:41 AM »
While one of my local Wm's still hasn't changed their ROTS pegs(why should they there still full of figs at 50 pegs), the other three are down to just 10 pegs at 2 stores and 12 at the other store :(. I don't like my chances for short-packed figs in this collection >:(

Ironic how a non-movie year goes RIGHT back to the same old song and dance as in the past despite riding an incredible high of Star Wars love through the holiday season.  A very dumb**** move on retail's part IMO...

I haven't noticed much change at retail yet...  Stuff's just dead/empty right now and I'm anxious for the holidays to pass and see some new stuff...  Hell there's some old stuff from '05 I'd still like to see but which I now know I won't be seeing for quite a while.

Saga06 should try mixing some ROTS figures in on the new cardbacks ala OTC mixing in old Saga stuff...  Would be a wise move if you ask me.

Well not a surprise to get these for anyone, but they do look nice to me...  Lots of detail.  4 sorta boring figures we'd not likely have gotten otherwise and the Zett looks different to me than the basic figure...  The legs look less posed, I hope that's the case.  I like dull figures like this sometimes, and as an exclusive it's cool, the price is a bit much to take but one set won't be death...  They'll come to close to $10 per figure though, that sucks no matter how you slice it, but at least they're new (mostly).

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Actual Star Wars "fan" figure ????
« on: December 21, 2005, 03:02 AM »
Hmmm, actually I don't know that I would, haha...  Like if it's $30, I'm out I can guarantee it.  I'd never pay $30 for Star Wars figures since I actually could literally produce them cheaper for myself at that price...

$10 I'd maybe do that.  Like as an exclusive generic kind of thing, but definitely wouldn't want involved in a series though...  It's too far removed from the basic line for me to bite on any series like the chromed figures were (hell they were tough to bite on, haha)...  I'd consider one sort of generic one though...  At a reasonable price and with nice packaging (for $10 I'd need some spiffy packaging that separates this figure visually from the basic line).  I like the idea of the Chinese Theater in the background, that's cool.  I like the idea of him holding a SW figure accessory too for some reason, that's funny.  A 12" Vader toy would be perfect I think.

Well most everyone in the city's saying they're not leaving, however gambling's really up in the air as to whether Lemieux gets the license or not...  There's other options though, and the last one Lemieux mentioned I think wasn't so reliant on gambling as a focus.

This week we got a new skyscraper announced for downtown, they're trying to make things nicer in the city so I'm expecting Lemieux's new arena will be part of that...  So much political mudslinging's gone on already that Rendell may give the license to the Pens just because it's already being talked about in a hugely negative manner towards him and there's not even been a decision.

And actually it'd be the Kansas City Pens...  They said that's where the team's likely to go if it were to go.  :)  You wouldn't actually expect a hockey town to get anything, would you Brent?  No no no...  It'd go to a town where John Deer ballcaps are the hottest fashion trend, and have been for decades.

EDIT:

And oh irony of ironies, the Pens are to make a huge announcement today about their current offer/plans for a new arena.  The deal's still gonna hinge on the slots license though, but supposedly a huge and expensive complex featuring retailing space, office space, a casino, and of course the arena, would all be part of the deal...  There's massive private funding from someone who's not being named as of yet but I guess it's an already established gambling organization of some sort...  Sounds like it could be a big push from the Pens on PA to say basically "look, we're laying it out that we WILL do this, we DO want this team here, and we DO want Pittsburgh to improve on a massive level as a city with this investment...  YOU have to give us that license though".

That's how I'm reading this anyway.  No wonder Lemieux's heart is in the ******* right now.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Actual Star Wars "fan" figure ????
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:24 AM »
Hmmm, it's a different idea...  It's been done in customizing though Bob so I wouldn't say it's TOO new.  :)  I think Hasbro reps may have even seen some of the work at C3 actually.

While it's interesting though, I'm so anal about getting "this or that" done in the line that there's things I'd certainly want more...  New stuff from the films (actually mostly resculpts at this point with me...  Short of a couple weird aliens).

It's a cool idea though, and kind of novel, but Hasbro's seemingly wishy washy about non-film figures...  There's been talk about like a figure of Sansweet or whatnot and I believe Sansweet's said the company wasn't into that idea so much as making people as a character in SW...

Don't we have a figure though?  The Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons has a figure.   ;D  hehe j/k of course, he's the scalper's action figure...  Thought I'd throw some laughs in, hah.

I'm looking forward to the set just for the shocktroopers really since those were ones we didn't get in any abundance.  A local fellow is going to maybe be buying multiple sets for the pods alone really so he's talking about selling shocks to help eat up some of the cost of the sets he wants.  I'm all for that if they're #41's.  Gladly build an army of those up.

Yeah I can't tell what's poseable on Momaw Nadon CHEWIE, but a joint coudl be hidden anywhere on the sculpt.

Just a point of note, I'm not disappointed in this wave, I'm disappointed in articulation overall seemingly taking a back seat.  Hasbro's capable of better in that department simply by taking a look at the 2004/05 Cantina Wave.  That's a great "standard" being put aside.

I love the new figures in this wave and Luke and hte Sandtrooper even have me anxious to buy both, but the articulation's more a commentary aside on my part about the direction the line may (or may not) be going, and it's a HUGE disappointment.  It's 1 step forward though a lot of 2005 and then 2 steps back to me.  From Veers to Derlin to Hem, there's a trend there, and it goes back to the end waves of ROTS too, and that just sucks.  I hope it's not "the standard".  For my money, the lacking articulation hurt more on Veers and Derlin than Hem Dazon and Garindan.  To me, Veers and Derlin are army builders and deserve a little extra effort as such...  Hem, I just am glad to see him finally done. :)  Love that figure...  Just hate his leg articulation.  Great figure otherwise though...  I'd say a great wave, and maybe my favorite so far, I'm not sure though as I've liked the others a lot too for the most part.

Hmmm, don't have a clue on that one Josh though I saw the thread.  Seemed civil enough but maybe a big flamewar opened up.  It was bound to because it was someone upset about something being told information I'm sure he didn't want to hear and given the way some people relay information over there...  Well I'm sure it got ugly fast.

When you're mad, you're mad...  The guy has a point from the uber completists point of view, however the uber completists POV is probably not near the majority, so the majority would have inevitably unloaded upon him (I believe it was IslandofSoldor making the complaint?)...  Not all, but I know someone was going to take his rant as "crying", "whining", or whatnot, and a fight would surely be on.  It's sort of a pattern I've noticed though words/terms and subject matter are sometimes different.
