Clicky... (http://http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Rebelspy_Report_103892.asp)
Sounds pretty neat. Be cool if they did a red Royal Guard version, like the 3' Titanium Interceptor. Pack in a ROTS Royal Guard and you'd be all set. Or perhaps, it could be a regular Interceptor, but include a new Baron Fel...
But knowing Hasbro, they'll give us a straight repack of the POTJ version and pack in a POTF2 TIE Crewman.
Thoughts?
-
It's probably going to have the same wings as the POTJ TIE Interceptor. But as memory serves me, I think that version still had the battery compartment on the back of the cockpit. This new version could have the resculpted cockpit as well as the new hatch that's on the new white TIE Fighter. And if they pack in the OTC TIE Fighter Pilot I'll be happy.
-
Missed out on this one the first time and never picked up the scaled TIE Fighter. I'll pick one up.
-
I never bought this ship. I can't remember why. I'll need to see it again and maybe I'll get one. I'm not too excited though.
-
I'm in for two I think if the cockpit section is corrected... I can deal without the new lid, just so long as it has the spiffy accurate cockpit rear with no battery box. I have like 4 Int's now, 2 more will suit me though. A nice flight mix there.
-

That's my hope. I can't see why they wouldn't do that. Though, a red version would be interesting.

Ya, that red Titanium Interceptor really knocked my socks off the first time I saw it. I'm hoping for a red version minus that battery back section - not that it bugs me too much though. I already have several of the POTJ version so I'd only buy one of these to leave boxed if there's nothing new on it. I'd take 4-5 red ones to open though.
-
vehicles are almost always a pass for me, it all depends on the pack-in
-
I am totally stoked about this development. I missed out on the Tie INterceptor the 1st time around, and I love the fact Hasbro loves to recycle!
-
Are there any more claims to support the release of the TIE Interceptor because I haven't herd anything else about it. ???
-
I'll also get one if it has the battery-compartment-less cockpit, and sell off my POTJ one. I only need one (despite how cool it is!) which I hang from the ceiling.
Note the small wing TIE which has since been replaced:

That's an awesome setup! ;D
-
I would dig a black interceptor... ;D
-
I'll also get one if it has the battery-compartment-less cockpit,
I'd be dissapointed if it was the old mold. There's no reason to go back.
-
I have 4 POTJ Int's so I won't sell them off just because of the battery compartment, however a new one with the new cockpit mold would be great to get a few more of... or at least two (knowing TRU's prices). I'll hang onto my old ones though as I think they're still passable on display.
It's kind of like the commtech Stormtrooper... Sure he got replaced, but I've got a hundred of him so I am ok with him as a placeholder, maybe a little customizing to help him fit in more too. Can't just get rid of 'em all. :-\

Just a reminder that Hasbro said the following about the TIE Interceptor...
Will we see a TIE Interceptor with the new, more accurate, center pod - the improved center cockpit TIE pod that has been released on the standard TIE Fighter the last couple of times? If so, would it have the old 2-piece hatch or the newest, 1-piece, side-opening hatch seen on the upcoming white TIE Fighter? (AF, 01/26/07) (http://www.actionfigs.com/index.php?categoryid=12&p2_articleid=162)
If we do another TIE Interceptor release (and it's high on our "wish list" for an exclusive release), then we would use the new pod with 1-piece hatch from the new white TIE fighter release.
So, if and when this arrives, it should have the same cockpit as the 30AC White TIE Fighter... unless of course they screw it up. :P

Which means the cockpit will be white, while everything else is grey/blue. :D
Curto on RS hinted in a report a while back that the TIE Interceptor may wind up being Baron Fel's 181st Squad TIE Interceptor w/ Fel included. With the recent trend towards EU by Hasbro, it's not too much of a stretch to believe they would do it.

I would categorise that as Curto hypothesizing, not hinting. But just because it's posted on RS doesn't make it the truth.
Certainly, there are a few possibilities for the TIE Interceptor now. Three that I can think of:
-Updated ROTJ TIE Interceptor with new cockpit section & hatch
-Baron Fel's EU TIE Interceptor
-Royal Guard EU TIE Interceptor
Now, consider the fact that the last TIE Interceptor we got was in 2001 or 2002 in the POTJ line. That one feature the old cockpit with the battery compartment. And with that one we got a POTF2 era TIE Fighter Pilot as a pack-in. Fastforward to today, and we've got a new cockpit section and a new TIE Pilot (the SAGA Gold version). That seems like a no-brainer combination before we start doing any kind of EU variations.
-
I bet theyre just gonna do a straight repack of the old one, but put a picture of Baron Fel in the top, right hand corner so that everyone buys the Baron Fel basic figure they release separately. :P
I will only buy this if it is Royal Guard or comes with an SA Baron Fel. Otherwise, its a total pass.
-
I have 4 POTJ Int's so I won't sell them off just because of the battery compartment,
Me neither, but I only have two.
-
They were wildly abundant around Pittsburgh, as was the AT-ST. So I see them from time to time cheap here and wound up with 4... Good stuff, at the time, but I'd love more...
If it's a 181st like CorranHorn mentioned, I might still get two... I'd be more inclined for one, but two might be in order so he has a wingman. Depends if the Fel figure is something special too. Given the Death Star Gunner as a possible base with stuff added to it, that could be cool.

from TRU.com: (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2659744&cp=&sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2254197&origkw=tie+interceptor&kw=tie+interceptor&parentPage=search)
The TIE Interceptor starfighter slices through space at blinding speed with its dagger-like wings and ultrasleek design. Under the command of Baron Fel, the pilots of the 181st Imperial Fighter Group fly these fast, deadly fighters on the side of the Empire during the Battle of Endor. The red stripes on a 181st unit's TIE Interceptor are badges of honor, indicating that the pilot has destroyed ten or more enemy vessels. Each pilot's uniform also displays the red stripes, crediting him for his victories in battle. Canopy opens and closes! Press buttons to remove wings! Includes 181st Fighter Pilot figure!

I'm glad there will be some red on this thing for the re-release, but I'm getting sick of TRU's inflated prices. Wasn't this thing $29.99 during it's POTJ release? How does a little red paint on the vehicle/fig warrent a $5 increase??
-
If this actually includes a Baron Fel like the description implies, i will buy one.
-
I'm a little surprised that they've gone in this direction. But then this could tie in with the concept of the Comic 2-packs that are out this year. It gives me the sneaking feeling that this vehicle is going to include a generic pilot, and that the rumored Rogue Squadron comic 2-pack might include Baron Fel and a Rogue Squadron pilot.
-
According to a quick Google image search, the figure might look like this:
-
^Yeah, it's basically the regular TIE uniform with red stripes.
I was going to pass, but since it's a 181st Int, I'm really considering it. I think, though, that Nicklab is correct that the Fel figure will show up in a comic 2-pack. The description says "includes 181st Fighter Pilot figure"--if they were including Fel himself, they'd certainly trumpet that in the ad copy.
-
Very cool! If its as good as it sounds and under thirty dollars, I'll take one to hang from my ceiling.
-
That's pretty cool to me, but odd... Still, I'm up for 3 of these, especially at $35 (good priceIMO... not great, but good). A nice flight of 181st will go great on display I think. I'm wagering the pilot shall blow though, as he's non-descript in the text there, and thus I dont' think we're getting a cool Baron Fel figure just yet. Maybe soon though. He'd be a great choice to me anyway.
-
I was kinda hoping for a regular Interceptor since I missed out on it but this one sounds just as good. Hopefully we'll get the 2004 TIE pilot and not the POTF2 one again.
-

Inflation - that was 7 years ago! Add in higher cost of base materials (price of oil goes up, price of plastic goes up), cost of distribution goes up too...

Isn't red usually associated with the Rebels?
-
Isn't red usually associated with the Rebels?
From a starfighter standpoint I'd say yes. But these are elite fighters so they get the special designation.
-

That's a pretty cynical stance on the matter. I would think that Hasbro would repaint the Saga Gold TIE Pilot in 181st colors in this instance and pack that with this Interceptor. I think that's one of the more underrated army builders we've gotten in the past 3-4 years.
-
HELL YEAH!! I'm so glad to see that we are indeed going to get a 181st TIE Interceptor, finally a real nod to great X-Wing comics of yesteryear. As for the pilot pack in, my guess is that we will get a repainted TIE Pilot (hopefully the SAGA figure and not a cop out of the modified POTF2 fig again). Baron Fel would require more work besides the obvious new head, as he needs hosing and the proper flak vest. Hasbro isn't usually keen on making too many mods to a pack-in figure, so I would guess that Baron Fel will come at a later point like the comic 2-packs.
-

If it were a better figure I'd agree... It's an ok figure, but I don't really see it as "underated" at all since people liked it but it lacks a lot of the poseability (in the arms only though, it's close) of troopers... but as army builders go it's short of greatness to me. Needs work. I thought it needed work in the arms department at the time of its release actually, and stand by that. Nice sculpt though... Given the Death Star Trooper though, it's not even in the ballpark with him.
But that aside, a TIE Pilot with a red stripe's... "eh" at best even if he was a better figure I think, especially since the EU character these Int's are specifically related to really wasn't just a TIE Pilot with a red stripe... It'd have been nice to get a little better figure but I also am one of the first ones to hate exclusive pack-ins too so that's a double-edged sword I guess. It might mean Fel's on their radar though, which is nice for fans of his.
-
For whatever it's worth, if they made a good quality Baron Fel I'd consider this a very worthy EU re-paint/re-pack.
Do it right Hasbro!
-
I am happy about them releasing one because i missed out on the first time so this would give me a chance to get one know.
-
So long as you don't mind red stripes on it. :)
I now wonder if they'll keep to giving it the new accurate cockpit or if it'll have the battery pack. They said new, but... you never know.
-
If Hasbro will put a Saga Tie Pilot Head on a slightly modified DS Gunner body, I'll buy 12 just for the pilots....
-
The ship and figure will be perfect squadren leaders for me. Bring it on.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Finaly my Tie Collection complete....... fwew..... ;D

QUESTION: OK, Baron Fel. The image that accompanied the Star Wars Figure Stand 40-Pack News on hasbro.com/starwars showed his name on one of the stand stickers. Our question is, how will we get our hands on him? Is he coming in the rumored Rogue Squadron set in the Comic Packs line or as a pack-in with the TRU 181st Squadron TIE Interceptor coming this summer?
ANSWER: Darn that battle stand list, it sure caused some problems we didn't anticipate! We can confirm that Fel *will* come in the 2-pack and that the TIE Interceptor will come with a figure, but it will not be Fel. Does that clear it up?
Wow. That's kind of trippy. :o
-
I'm sure it'll just be a regular TIE pilot (hopefully Saga sculpt.) Makes me wonder more about who's going to be the Baron companion in the 2-pack.
-
If it's not a relatively new Wedge there's going to be some trouble. >:( I can't imagine who else it would be, but then this is Hasbro we're talking about, so. Not to rag on them - the comic packs are the best things they've done in a long time. Love 'em.
-
new pic up on RS. question to those who know the ships background.....why is there little y-wings and x-wings painted on it? :S
-
Has nothing to do with the ship's background, it's just how many kills it has made.
-
Yeah, which is odd in a way because it seems like they've just slapped one of each fighter type on there, nothing flashy... Rogue Squad pilots have the same thing on their ship in the comics as well, like for instance Wedge has a bunch of fighter kill markings but also has a couple Death Star markings as well.
-
oh cool. and i thought hasbro had just thrown it on for fun :P
-
Anyone planning on picking up a few of these and would be willing to part with just one of the figures? Let me know ;D
-
This ship is looking very nice, even though the paint looks as if someone got bored and slapped four strips of red tape on the wings of a normal TIE Interceptor. I do, however, enjoy the kill marks on the side of the ship. I've always enjoyed that concept, especially on the Republic Gunship from the Clone Wars line. I can't wait to purchase this and display it chasing my X-Wing. The $30 price point and the pack in pilot makes me want to get two of these awesome ships, but I think I'm going to stick with one and try to purchase two of the $20 TIE fighters instead.

I have to agree with Jesse on the Saga TIE Pilot. He is a good figure, but the arm thing really bugs me. The right arm articulation is a joke as if you straighten the arm, it is shorter than his left. Why did they bother to articulate the arm (with that problem) is unknown to me. Other than the arms I can live with the figure. It would be cool if they redo the arms to correct the problem, but that will never happen. Most likely they will make a vintage version sometime in the future and suck more money out of everyone. He might even cost $14 or more as the way the prices on them keep raising.
I might pick one of these or not. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Cool would be if they take the DS Gunner figure from last year, make a chest armor piece w/chest box and removable helmet. THAT would be a net TIE Pilot figure. :) Nicely articulated/neutral, and full removable gear like the DS Gunner. And in theory the OTC Pilots would still be practical and blend in well, as the figure itself is pretty accurate, it just could be a better figure in general.
-
Anyone planning on picking up a few of these and would be willing to part with just one of the figures? Let me know ;D
I might need to do that with three of them. :P
-
That's exactly what I was thinking too, Jesse, the DS Gunner would be a good base for a new TIE Pilot. I still like the Saga one, but we needs a new one.
-
If anyone is looking to get rid of one of two of the pack-in pilots, please shoot me a PM!
-
Could happen with me, I'll let everyone know. Depends how easy to find the fighter is and what I can afford at the time. I'd kinda dig two or three of the Int, as I'd like 2 normal ones and one for Fel at some point. If I have extras I'll remember this thread.
-
I had been thinkiing of picking up extra Barons to trade for the 181 pilots. I wonder if that will fly.
-

Couldn't they just use the AT-AT pilot paint him up black and use the arms/legs of DS Gunner. No real retooling/resculpting needed I'd think unless you want that helmet removable. You'd have to change the hose on the helmet and that's it. That's the kind of parts rehashing I wouldn't mind.
-
This TIE is an easy pass for me... running out of room for ships now, and if it's not something that really interests me, I'm not going to be making purchases like this one. I really can't stand the stripes on this thing. It just looks... out of place. I do think the pilot looks nice, but I think I cold probably paint my own rather than spend the $$$ on this.
Now, this is a vehicle I can't wait to get a few of. Somehow I'll find room for a handful of them -

:P
-
The AT-AT Driver and TIE Pilot have pretty distinctly different helmets and I believe their bodyarmor as well has significant differences also... Not to mention the boots too now that I think about it. So yeah I'd be happier seeing the Death Star Gunner used as the base, or at least his arms/legs since they're kind of "ideal" without super articulating them, and then from there either a new body that incorporates removable armor/helmet, or a whole new torso since I don't know that the "hood" was on TIE Pilots from anything I can see in pictures.
But yeah, the AT-AT Driver's helmet, armor, and boots are pretty substantially different from the TIE Pilot's, so I don't think I'd be into that myself as a repaint.
-

Ya but then again the scout trooper is pretty different then the 41st Elite, yet Hasbro still tried to pass it off with a repaint. :P
-
Doesn't make it "right" to me though, so I'm still against it (and waiting on a good/accurate 41st Elite Trooper in the meantime). ;)
-
It just occurred to me to paint over the red stripe to turn this ship into a standard fighter. The black will be easy, how hard would it be to match the gray?
-
These have hit the shelves in Singapre accoring to a scummer (he has pleanty of proof.) Guess they're on their way then.
-
Word on the street that these are shipping from TRU.com. Guess that mean it's time to keep an eye out at TRU.
-
I hope i can just get the figure from somewhere.
-
I hope i can just get the figure from somewhere.
Yah, the exclusive figure with vehicle I don't need concept is not sitting well with me. :-\
-
Just came home from TRU where I picked this guy up. Overall, it's a pretty great repaint of an already great fighter. I'm loving the fact we get an EU vehicle and one from the X-Wing Novels/Comics to boot! The paint apps on the kill marks on the cockpit are perfect on my fighter, not a blemish at all. The stripes on the wings are pretty good, but they are not even at the point between solar panels where there is the vertical ridge. The pilot is well painted as well, no blemishes either and I'm glad to see they used the SAGA sculpt this time. I'm stoked that I got this and was able to use the 20% coupon as well, so an added bonus as well. They are out there peoples, have at them!
-
Well....At least one of us was able to find this thing before the coupon expired.. ::) I assume they'll start stocking these things en masse this week.
-
Nice score Jason...
Looks good and I'm excited to get two or three. I'd like (ideal) 3 so I could have Fel with one, maybe add a couple kill markings to it too including a cruiser and such, and then have two flanking him in a flight. When the ship's good I'm all about picking up extras. The only thing that would hold me back much is price... Still, I have 3 Target TIE's and looking to get a 2nd TRU TIE at some point. When it's done right, I'm all about extras, and the Interceptor's a great ship.
-
I know i mentioned this much earlier in this thread somewhere but if someone is getting multiple ships and is willing to part with on eof the pilots let me know. ;D
-
Cracked one of these open last night. Nice little ship, but not for $35. Seriously, why does this cost more than the Y-wing? It's my first "new canopy" TIE and I like that design. Now to remove those pesky stripes.
-
For what it's worth, I've removed the red stripe one of my Interceptors. Goof off worked, but it took a little elbow grease since the red paint is so thick. The only drawback is that it takes the weathered detail off as well, so I have a few very clean spots. I simply painted over the black.
-
I noticed yesterday that our local store did have these out on the shelves. I was surprised how compact a box they put it in. The pilot actually looked kind of cool, but I passed. Not too bad of a ship though, but I'm happy with the previous Interceptor I have. No sign of the Y-Wing at our stores yet, but I got on via TRU.com.
