Title: Solo 3.75" Force Link 2.0 TIE Fighter
Post by: Jeff on June 12, 2018, 10:44 AM
Looks like the long rumored Solo 3.75" Class C TIE Fighter (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2018/06/11/solo-force-link-2-class-c-tie-fighter-info/) might finally be on it's way...

I was surprised we didn't see that one with the launch... cool variant on the classic, shown in the trailer...

Not holding my breath for scale with the large wing tie fighters, but one can still hope.

Wings look squatter compared to the cockpit.  Wish there was an ICS book for this film.  :-\

The TIE RB would be totally welcome in my book.  It's a cool concept, and the stockier wings actually make it more practical for the Class C vehicle line.  Because you know we aren't getting those large wing TIE's again any time soon!

Check out THIS REBELSCUM POST (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbro_New_Star_Wars_Universe_Force_Link_20_Solo_Vehicles_181118.asp).  It's got some boxed images of the upcoming  Force Link 2.0 TIE Fighter.  And unfortunately it's not the TIE R/B.  :(

It's also another small wing edition. Real bummer.

The small wings are disappointing.  I think a larger wing TIE would be significantly more expensive.  And the funny thing is that in SOLO you can tell that the standard TIE's seem to have bigger wings than the TIE R/B, which has decidedly smaller wings.

But the paint scheme on this TUE actually looks pretty good.  I'd like to see if the cockpit is up to the standards of more recent TIE's, like the TVC TIE Interceptor.

I think it looks good and had no expectations it would have large wings, etc

The R/B was probably a late inning digital addition (or maybe not, who knows) but yeah too bad it's not that one. I like this for what it is, but I'm curious if it will ever make retail in the States.

For some reason I thought this would be a TIE Brute...

Boring.

Is it just the paintjob playing tricks on me or does the cockpit ball look different than the one they have been using for the last 40 years??

It must be.  The photo of the back of the package (albeit a little blurry) seems to reveal a significant battle damage feature.  It looks like the main body of this TIE splits in order to simulate being blasted apart.

I am surprised that this is not the TIE R/B from Solo too, but it is outweighed by my delight that it isn't a First Order TIE.

It has been a long time since a vanilla TIE fighter was on the market, and I am glad this is a brand-new mold. It gives me hope that a vanilla X-Wing with a brand new sculpt may follow. Things like that have been absent for far too long.

(The real surprise in reading the original article is discovering that a toy found in Mexico doesn't qualify as a "North American release."  ;D )

Yeah, it splits apart.  JTA had some pics recently too, but those pics made it look like the TIE had a pretty bad gap where the plastic separates... meaning when it's assembled, it might not look so great for display.  The pic at RS though doesn't show this gap.

I may or may not get a couple - I think it looks awesome other than the potential gap.

I suspect that Hasbro probably wants to keep up waiting for the TIE R/B.  Maybe it will make it's debut at either SDCC this year or at the next Toy Fair?  Anticipation can be a strong marketing tool.

I'd like to see some official imagery of this new TIE and the battle damage feature.  The toxic nature of the comments section in almost every jta post makes it difficult to justify going on that site, even if they have new images.  There's a reason why at least 2 of their advertisers dropped them.

Good catch,  I hadn't noticed that feature on the back. An all new TIE after so long, a shame they aren't doing a 40th anniversary tribute to the toy line this year to put it in special packaging...

Yeah. Just getting the 6-inch figures on vintage packaging last year was pretty anticlimactic.

No Rhythm and Blues TIE yet.

Yeah, all I know is no TIE will ever be as common as POTF2 era Vader TIE. I even passed one up at an Estate sale recently. I already have a squadron.

Oddly, Vader's TIE is the one ship I never got.

I know there's a ton of bitching about this TIE Fighter when they're releasing the TVC one at the same time (and people then bitching the TVC one isn't the Heavy TIE, and so on and so forth and screw collecting sometimes), but I like this and the general idea of a smaller wing TIE like the Rebels toon showed.  Was that "how they were" at that time or were they full size?  Depends I guess on POV and licensed product because other licensed stuff from Rebels shows basically just a regular TIE Fighter (big wings) and the cartoon was artistic license or whatever, but either way I figure why not a smaller squatter winged fighter variant at some point?  I'm in on this.

I might go along with that...  I doubt I buy this at $40, but if Amazon gets to $25 or less I'd likely buy despite the smaller wings.

It's kind of odd that Hasbro didn't really show this TIE off at the panel, or the AT-DT for that matter.  I think the battle damage feature is actually kind of cool.

I'm guessing they didn't want to confuse the issue with the TVC TIE coming to Walmart?  "Here's a $40 TIE... and here's a $80 TIE exclusive to Walmart!"

LOL, yeah!  Sell the more expensive version at your media event.
