The Legacy Collection / Re: Wedge Antilles' Red Two X-Wing Starfighter
« on: September 13, 2009, 08:39 PM »
I picked this up a couple of days ago.  It was good to see an exclusive in relatively decent supply.  Although I'm sure that the scalper shop in my area that makes a point of cleaning out the exclusives from the local stores will see to that soon enough.  To that end, please do not patronize ToyWiz.com as this is how they stock their SW exclusives.

I'm going to have to wait a little while to open this one.  My collecting room is a work in progress, and while I'm really eager to get my Yavin Rebel Hangar together, it's going to take a little while.

That being said, I think it's a great set.  Although it would be nice to see Wedge with the appropriate astromech.  The one thing that keeps puzzling me?  Why Hasbro doesn't want to put Wedge out in the Basic Figure line on a single card.  Perhaps they'll do that at long last for one of the TESB waves next year, with a Snowspeeder pilot Wedge.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Fan Edit Ep IV - A Must See
« on: September 13, 2009, 08:25 PM »
Now are we talking about Adywan's "A New Hope Revisited"?  I've seen that and it's definitely very cool.  Just the shots of the Death Star orbiting Alderaan alone are worth the download.

The Star Destroyers in formation making their way away from the planet as the Falcon leaves Tatooine is very cool.  As is the Falcon's escape from the Death Star, as you get to see more of the exterior of the Falcon being hit by blaster fire from the TIE Fighters along with fire from the dorsal and ventral turrets.

But IMHO, the best revisions are in the space battle.  You see SWARMS of TIE fighters.  And one of the most notable things is that you see both foreground dogfighting and background dogfighting.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: How does Padme REALLY die?
« on: September 9, 2009, 02:08 AM »
I think there was an unstated link in the Force between Anakin and Padme.  The scene that established that idea for me was when Anakin was in the Jedi Council chambers by himself.  Lucas cuts between shots of both Anakin and Padme.  And there seems to be an awareness between them as he's making his decision to go to Palpatine's office.

And then there's the events on Mustafar.  Between Anakin Force choking Padme, and his complete turn to the dark side, I think it corrupts the bond between them and kills her.

That's my theory for now.  Although I think ****** writing might be a more appropriate cause.

The Legacy Collection / Re: 2008/2009 Evolutions Sets
« on: September 2, 2009, 10:07 PM »
Went back to the same store 12 hours later.  And the Evolutions packs were out on the shelves.  Only the imperial pilots were in the system, so it still took a while to check out.

I understand that working for WalMart has to suck.  But it's the never-ending level of either stupidity or apathy from their employees that makes me want to shop elsewhere.

WALMART EMPLOYEES ARE MORONS.

I feel very secure in that statement.  Why?  Because I made the late night run up to a 24 hour super center tonight.  And sure enough, there was a bunch of SW freight ready to go out.    Including the Clone Wars figure 2-packs with Thire & Rys and Yoda & Jek.  Those rang up at $12.96 each.  I also spied a few cases of the new Evolutions 3-packs.  BTW, those pack out as follows:

$24.96 each
12 pieces per case
4 of each set (Rebel Pilots, Imperial Pilots & Commandos)

But guess what?  They weren't in the store's computer system.  I had heard that had happened at some other stores.  So I actually checked the tag on the box and figured out the unit price...just in case.

So the front end manager went to check out the situation.  And she came back telling me this insane story that "Oh, these shouldn't have been put out.  They're not supposed to go out before November 11th".  I saw that one coming.  Because Hasbro is now putting a label on their cases saying "Produced after November 11th, 2008" in response to all of the toy manufacture safety regulations.  When I told her that, she didn't budge.  And neither did the other manager who came over to team up on this potentially escalating incident.

So I wound up leaving with the Clone Wars 2-packs but no Evolutions.  And I'll probably go back tomorrow to find these out on the shelves.  Because the night crew at WalMart is full of lazy morons who don't know how to look up a UPC.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Walmart CW Octuptarra Droid
« on: September 1, 2009, 12:41 PM »
Did anyone else hear/read any body else saying this was found?

Not personally.  But I just checked the slideshow from Hasbro's presentation, and it said that the Octuptarra droid would be out for September 1st.

Finally scored this set yesterday.  I was a little surprised to see TRU getting some new stock.

The Vintage Collection / Re: How Much is Too Much?
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:04 AM »
I think that we need to weigh how much cost can be passed on to the consumer.  I saw figures at Target today for $8.24 each.  And there was almost an entire new wave of Clone Wars figures.  And you know what?  I passed.

As much as it would be nice to move those manufacturing jobs to the US, the consumer base is not prepared to pay the additional cost.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Wal-Mart Droid Factory Sets
« on: August 25, 2009, 06:35 PM »
I've been seeing some planograms posted at some of my local stores.  And none of them showed space for the Droid Factory 2-packs.  When I saw the sets in a store, they were placed on an endcap.

These days, you need a warehouse to collect every SW collectable.  :P

Or at least a storage unit or a garage.  :P

I think we've become victims of Hasbro's success with the Star Wars line.  Because it's just kept growing and growing and growing.  Hasbro tried coming out of the gate really strong in the Episode I days and totally overestimated collector and fan interest.  And we wound up with the worst pegwarming ever in the history of the modern line.  Hasbro reevaluated and got back to a smaller line that focused on quality with POTJ.  And the line has grown since then as more people got into collecting during the span the prequel movie toy lines.  Army building became a phenomenon.

I think we're seeing how much some individuals can bear now.  Even with a bigger house now, I've got to store a good deal of my collection in my garage and storage space in my house while I get my collection room fully set up.  At some point we just run out of space.  And when finances factor in too?  People have to make tough decisions then.  And if someone sides with providing with a family over collecting, I've gotta say that I would side with providing for a family, too.  It's just a no-brainer to me.

3 or 4 of each of the Scanning troops should tide me over.

They dropped the ball on the Crystal Skeletons from the IJ line, too.  But almost every Star Wars mailaway in recent memory seems to have been well managed.

Scored the Droid Factory 2-packs this morning.  And it looks like Corran Horn might be the pick of the set.  Because I only found one Corran Horn set, but multiples of every other set.

The next generation moon missions may be in jeorpardy.  The reason why?  Budget cuts.
