Title: LEGO Makes Theirs Marvel
Post by: Jeff on July 20, 2011, 01:38 PM
Hot off the heels of their DCU announcement (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=21730.0) comes news that LEGO will be making Marvel sets too (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/167931-sdcc-lego-teams-with-marvel-and-dc).

Holy totally compatible superhero sets!  LEGO Batman, JLA, Spider-Man, Avengers, and X-Men?  All on the shelves at the same time??  Going to be a busy, busy summer 2012 in the LEGO aisle!

I'm really surprised by this... lots of industry speculation was that the license would move from Mega-Bloks to Hasbro's new Kre-Os... guess that didn't work out like Hasbro wanted.

Awesome.  I don't know how I'm going to avoid picking these up unless the prices are ridiculous.

Good, Hasbro would have found a way to screw it up anyway. That's one less thing to distract them from fixing the godforsaken SW line now.

Okay, I'm going to have to get these.  Hulk is amazing.  I'll even get a lot of the DC figs (Batman, WW, and Supes are all solid).  But WTF is with Iron Man?  Seriously, his head is like 2x the size of a normal lego figure.  Just use a regular head and put a race car driver helmet on with the little visor and call it a day.  That figure will get redone in a better form sooner rather than later.  I think Cap should have a half helmet on too, but he's pretty great as is.  Will be interesting to see if these are just minifig sets or if we get some cool ships and playsets (Quinjet, Danger Room, Avengers Mansion, Blackbird, etc.).

Agreed.  I'll just scrap his ridiculously oversized helmet in favor of a Minimates fig though and all will be well.   ;)

They should have just used a "normal" head on Iron Man rather than a helmet.

LOVING that Wolvy/Deadpool set though. Just wish the Wolverine was in the Tiger Stripe costume

Remember the old space sets that had a racing helmet with a visor that lifts up?  Why not just do that?  Have Stark's face underneath and a visor that has the faceplate and be done with it.  I would have been very happy with just that versus this ridiculous helmet that is 3x the head size.  It's "Iron Man", not "Iron Noggin."

I picked up the small Cap w/bike set, but that's it so far.  I'd like to be able to get some of the larger ones eventually, as the budget allows.  This LEGO stuff is a slippery slope ;).

I've seen a few sets at Target but I'm passing on the Marvel stuff for now, I'm waiting for more "comic" based sets to be made.

My wife and daughter got me the "Hulk Helicarrier Break Out" LEGO set for my birthday a month or so ago, and we just got around to putting it together this week.  The cool thing about this set is that one of the stickers you apply to the "computer" area is the Galaga screen from the movie, thought that was a sweet little detail.  Love the LEGO Hulk too.

Cool sets, though not very spoilerish IMO.  I think everyone knows who the baddie is by now and Extremis is well documented in the older Invincible Iron Man comics, as well as the topic of the day in the new Marvel Now Iron Man comic.  I am hoping there was some creative license in some of this I'm looking at you Madarin Buggy.

I saw the IM3 sets for the first time this week at our local TRU.  I sort of wanted to pick one up, but figured I'd wait for our Targets/WMs to get these in for a little lower price.  Nice sets though.

I saw the three sets at TRU at the beginning of the month and picked up the Rocket/Groot set you pictured.  I haven't seen them anywhere else though yet, and when I visited TRU since then they were all pulled from the shelves (or all sold that quickly, which I sort of doubt).

I picked up the Starblaster Showdown set at my local Toys R Us today on the way home from work. Fun little set to build. I think I'm gonna pick up the Groot/Rocket set tomorrow. I don't collect the Marvel sets, but I can definitely get into collecting just the Guardians of the Galaxy sub-line sets. My local TRU has all three sets in stock. Might get the Milano set from Lego Shop since I have $20 in rewards waiting to be used...

Picked up the Knowhere Escape Mission set - fun little set. Groot is a bit big compared to the mini-figures - but still very cool.

Also picked up the Iron Man 3 Malibu Mansion Assault set. I'm thinking about getting the other two Iron Man 3 sets as well. Even though I don't have the sets that came out for The Avengers - I think I might start picking up sets that are MCU-based. I already collect the Star Wars, Hobbit and Lord of the Rings lines - not sure I want to start with a fourth - but my thinking that the days of the LotR and Hobbit lines are numbered.... So maybe picking up another line wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Completed the Iron Man 3 sets with the Mandarian Showdown and Sea Port Battle - kinda weird that these two sets have ZERO connection to the actual movie.

Also picked up the Poly Bag Spider-man Glider and the Spider Cycle Chase sets from Toys R Us - had a coupon for $5 off $25 or more purchase and wanted to use it.

Still trying to decide if I want to finish off getting all of the rest of the Lego Marvel sub-line... definitely picking up The Milano set next to finish off the GotG mini-collection...
Title: Re: LEGO Makes Theirs Marvel

I liked the Extremis Port Set... also bought the Malibu Mansion sometime last year but haven't built it yet. I want to get the newer Marvel sets (Cap/Red Skull tank, X-Men vs Sentinel, new Hulk/MODOK set) since they're somewhat based on comic appearances, but I'm going to wait on the next LEGO Shop promo since two of those would put me near or over the usual $75 threshold.

How's the Spider Trike set Pete? I've heard nothing but bad reviews for it (although I might pick it up on clearance just for the Electro)

The one I got wasn't the one with Electro - it was the cycle one with Nick Fury, a shield vehicle and Venom.

I have thought about picking up the Spider-Trike one if only to get the Electro mini-figure but I haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet.

Like you, I'll probably wait for there to be a promo/sale at Lego shop before getting many more sets - I did see the Daily Bugle set for a great price on WalMart.com - so I might grab that one but otherwise, hold off on any others.

Picked up the Milano on the way home from work last night - and I put it together this afternoon.

Fun build - great to have the five members of the team in Lego now.  It was cool that Lego made the Starlord from the two sets he appears in different designs. Based on the trailer it looks like the Rocket mini-figure is from the prison sequence. The Gamora and Drax figures from from the part in the trailer where they are all in similar uniforms and walking down a hallway. So I guess there's still room for Rocket from the hallway scene and Quill, Drax and Gamora from the prison sequence. Wouldn't be surprised if one or more of those showed up as a poly-bag at some point.

I think my next sets will be the Daily Bugle set and the Spider-trike w/Electro (mostly cause I want that mini-figure)

Yeah I bought the Flying Car set with Spidey, Venom and Nick Fury last summer. Awesome set, and I wish the BTTF Delorian turned out a bit more like the car in that set.

Wal-Mart has had random deals on occasion. Back in April I snagged the Man Bat DC set for $15 on Rollback, normal MSRP being $20. A few weeks later I snagged the Flash set on sale at Target during a sale and ended up saving another $5. I've noticed they do that frequently for sets in that price range, which is why I usually wait for those to go on sale and then snag the bigger sets on LEGO Shop for the easy VIP points.

Picked up a bunch of sets since my last post:

Spider-Trike vs. Electro - the trike does indeed stink, lousy vehicle, like I said before, picked this up purely for the Electro mini-fig
Avengers: Captain America vs. Hydra - grabbed it using my Kmart Shop-Your-Way Rewards, had enough to cover the whole purchase
Captain America's Avenging Cycle - grabbed in an eBay auction, haven't received it yet
Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape - grabbed in the same eBay auction as above
Spider-Man: Daily Bugle Showdown - my site-to-store order from WalMart is ready for pick-up, getting it tonight on the way home
Avengers: Hulk Lab Smash
X-Men vs. The Sentinel - these last two sets picked up using the TRU Buy-one-Get-one-40%-off today

I have another $15 in Kmart Rewards that I'm probably going to put towards the Spider-Helicopter Rescue set and I'll grab the Doc Ock Truck Heist set from WalMart since they have the best price.

Once I do that, I'll be down to just needing polybag sets, remaining sets from 2012 and the convention exclusives (which I have no intention of ever getting, no way can I afford one minifigure for $300).

Got the Guardians of the Galaxy Collector mini-figure from SDCC.

Neat little touch is that he comes with an "accessory" that is comprised of a black round single stud-clear red round single stud-black round single stud "sandwich" which represents the Ether given to him at the end of Thor: The Dark World by Sif and Volstagg.

Title: Re: LEGO Makes Theirs Marvel
Post by: Pete_Fett on August 27, 2014, 08:38 PM
Decided to hold off on the Rocket Raccoon set from SDCC for a bit - I think the prices on eBay have gotten a tad bit ridiculous ($170+) and are sure to drop off even if it takes a little while.

So instead, I've resumed my efforts to make my Lego Marvel collection as "complete" as possible - so I picked up the following:

Avengers Quinjet Aerial Battle
Avengers Quinjet Mini Polybag
Thor w/Cosmic Cube Polybag
Iron Man vs Fighting Drone Polybag

Eyeing up the Polybag Iron Patriot and Hawkeye sets now - those are a tad bit more expensive on the secondary market...

At some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pick up the Wolverine Helicopter Showdown, Hulk Helicarrier Breakout and Spider-man's Doc Ock Ambush sets - all three of which have gone up quite a bit on the secondary market...  :-\

I had an Amazon gift card from last Christmas to use up, so I picked up the Milano from the Guardians stuff.  I had been wanting to get it for awhile, but always have to budget a bit more for those larger sets.  Plus, I can't get enough of the Guardians stuff right now ;).

Wal-Mart currently has a Rollback on the new Captain America vs HYDRA Tank set, on sale for $15 from $20. Comes out to about 9 cents per piece when everything is said and done, which is a great deal for a licensed set.

Not sure if anyone else here has been looking for this, but has anyone found the Rocket Raccoon baggie set at TRU?  It is supposed to be a "free with $30 purchase" item now (or $4.99 each I think), and I've been checking our store and can't find any.  Just curious if anyone out there has had any luck finding these, or could maybe even help me out if they are plentiful in your area.

I found this at a Toys R Us on my way home from work on Friday.

There were shelf tags that indicated it was free with a $30 Lego purchase - but since I'm all caught up, I just purchased two of them outright - they rang up for $4.99 each.

If I don't end up leaving work too late this evening, I can swing by there and see if they have any left in stock. The TRU nearer to where I work hasn't gotten them in yet, so I'm hoping this week they will - so if I can't score one at the first place I found them, I might have some luck tomorrow. I'll let you know.

That Avengers Tower set looks pretty cool.  Ant Man set is a cool concept too.  Wasn't overly impressed with what I saw of the rest.  I'm a little surprised to see them already rehashing Quinjets and Shield Trucks.  How about an Asgardian playset or Hall of Iron Man armor?  Iron Monger anyone?  Lots of set fodder beyond the same five sets over and over.   :P

If anybody's looking for some cheap Lego Marvel characters, check out kantrol84 on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/Toys-Hobbies-/220/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=kantrol84&_sac=1).  He's selling lots of 6-10 figures in various groupings across Marvel & DC characters and most of the auctions are <$1 per figure with free shipping.  I don't think these are official Lego, but about as close as you can get.  I was tempted by the old school Hawkeye and some Star Wars lots he had up, so ordered them a few weeks back.  They arrived yesterday and look pretty sweet.  Each figure comes in it's own sealed bag (similar to real lego sets) along with the pieces to make a little display stand.  Some of the figures even have a little angled shield section on their stand featuring the character logo.

I was a little skeptical these would even arrive given the crazy low prices, but they're pretty cool.  Pieces match up exactly with Lego parts, but don't have the LEGO logo on the connector stubs.  I'll post some pictures of my own if anyone's interested.

Pulled the trigger on the SHIELD Helicarrier along with all the stuff I'll need to add power functions to the model this past weekend when the double VIP points started. Should give me a nice discount on the UCS TIE that comes out in a month and a half.

Can't wait to get this behemoth and put it together.

I also picked up off of eBay the following older sets:
Wolverine's Chopper Showdown
Spider-Man's Doc Ock Ambush
Hulk Mini Figure Polybag
Iron Patriot Mini Figure Polybag
Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout

I'm trying to score the SDCC Rocket Raccoon Warbird set, but so far no luck. I might pick up one of those parts sets with instructions and call it a day instead...

I'm trying to get down to just needing the sets that haven't been released yet AND the SDCC minifigures from 2012 (Black Suite Spider-man and Phoenix) and 2013 (Spider-Woman & Andrew Garfield Spider-Man) and the Iron Man/Captain American 2-pack from Toy Fair 2012. I'll probably never get those six mini-figures, but I'm okay with that, I can't justify dropping $200 for a single mini fig.  :(
Title: Re: LEGO Makes Theirs Marvel
Post by: Pete_Fett on April 7, 2015, 10:29 AM
Picked up a parts set for the SDCC Rocket Raccoon Warbird off Amazon. Nice little build - not sure if I'm going to pursue getting the "official" SDCC set or not. The parts set is all Lego pieces, so the only thing I don't have for the set is the official instruction book from Lego and the box. Not sure if those two things are worth $100+

To extend my Marvel Collection, I also started looking into the knock-off stuff out of China. While they do make sets and minifigures that are exact copies of stuff Lego makes, they also make stuff that Lego doesn't make (or at least hasn't made yet).

So far, I've gotten a set of 9 Iron Man minifigures and four "big" minifigures from a company called "Decool" - the big minifigures are great - Rhino, Venom, Juggernaut and Hulk Buster Iron Man. In the Iron Man 9 figure set, there were some pretty cool armor variations, including a really neat Mark I set of the armor.

Here's what the Hulkbuster Looks like:

and here's the Venom big minifig:

and here's a pic of the set of 9 Iron Man figures:

And then from another company called Shang Yuan (their stuff has an "SY" logo on it), I picked up this set of 8 Captain America minifigures:

Lastly, also from SY, I picked up these two Iron Man sets:

Prices are pretty cheap and if you're willing to wait 2 weeks for the stuff to come from China, you can find an eBay seller who will ship for free, which is pretty crazy when you think about it...

The "SY" company also has a pretty cool wave of 8 Spiderman figures that I'm thinking about getting, and their Groot mini-figure is pretty cool too since it's mini-figure sized (not outrageously large like the Lego version). On the Decool side they have a nice set of Fantasic Four minifigures AND Future Foundation variants that I'm keen to pick up, plus their Thing big minifig is pretty spot-on for matching the version of Thing shown in the Lego Marvel Super Heroes video game.

So while I don't necessarily "condone" supporting bootlegs, if Lego were to come out with any of these minifigures or sets, I would gladly throw aside these in favor of having the real-deal.

Got my Throne of Ultron and Sam Wilson as Captain America SDCC Exclusives today. The Throne of Ultron set is pretty cool glad to have it in my collection. The Sam Wilson Captain America Mini-figure is really nice too. I'm looking forward to him being copied by the Chinese companies so I can have one to display w/o the clamshell packaging...

Picked up the Iron Skull Sub set this morning at my local Target. Had to ask for it using the DPCI number. I ran a couple other numbers when I was there and they had a few of the Batman v. Superman sets as well, I don't collect the DC Comics Lego stuff otherwise, I would have tried to grab them too.

Picked up the Super Hero Airport Battle and Black Panther Pursuit sets from a local WalMart on my way into work today. I'm guessing these were put out onto the shelves a tad prematurely...

I saw one of the Captain America - Civil War LEGO sets at a local mom & pop toy store yesterday.  And boy was there a GIANT spoiler that came from that particular set!

Toys R Us currently has the Captain America w/Motorcycle polybag available as a free gift with Lego Construction purchase of $30 or more. I finally pulled the trigger on the Lego Ideas Big Bang Theory set to qualify, they had the Disney Blind-bag Minifigures in stock and I was tempted to grab 10 of those and see if they would qualify but the lady working the customer service desk said they wouldn't.

Starting on Sunday, if your local TRU has any left over, apparently they are allowed to start selling the Cap polybag for $3.99.

That same polybag will be free with $35+ purchases at LEGO Stores (and LEGO Shop) during Memorial Day weekend.

Good news for people like me, whose TRUs never stock the exclusive polybags. ::)

The typical situation at my local TRUs is that they don't have the item during the promotion and then one day after the promotion has ended, they'll dump a bunch of them into a bin near one of the ends of the Lego aisle.

I think the reason they do this is because if one of the polybags gets onto the floor during the promotion, when trying to purchase it, it rings up as $0.01. When I got the BvS Batmobile polybag, I saw one in the Lego section during the promotion and I was like "okay, I'll get it" and when I went to the register it rang up for $0.01 - the clerk didn't notice since I was buying something else so that's how much that polybag cost me...  :-\

I snagged the awful Rhino/Sandman vs. Spidey/Iron Spidey set on clearance at Walmart last night for $30. It was one of the few clearanced sets they still had multiples of.

The new Spider-Man Bridge Battle set is currently 20% off on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Super-Heroes-76057-Spider-Man/dp/B01CU9X622/ref=sr_1_14?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1472145238&sr=1-14&keywords=lego+marvel)

I snagged it and used some reward points to knock the price down even further. Great deal, and good to have this big set out of the way.

I'm not sure who was copying who, but the 20% off was at Toys R Us last week as well, I had $15 in Rewards bucks and I combined that with the $80 price tag to get this set for just a bit less than $70 with tax included. Definitely not a bad deal!

Snagged the Doc Ock Mech set with Vulture and Captain Stacy yesterday at Walmart since it was randomly on Rollback at Walmart for $6 off. I have now acquired all 3 of the fall Spider-Man sets for under MSRP. I wish I could find deals like these on Star Wars sets more often!

Picked up all three new Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 sets at the Toys R Us near where I work - super excited about these! It's the sets from the 1st Guardians of the Galaxy movie that got me to branch out from collecting Lego Star Wars to also collecting Lego Super Heroes sets...

Wondering if I should pick up the Knight Rider Lego Dimensions set since the figure included in that set technically does make an appearance in an MCU movie.  ;D

Picked up one of the Spiderman: Homecoming sets at my local Walmart today - 76082: ATM Heist Battle

Does anyone know when the Thor: Ragnarok sets are supposed to come out? The book for this set shows the two Spiderman sets and the two Thor sets - wonder if the Thor sets are coming out soon as well...
