Aquaman was always my favorite, so I'd love to see him on the big screen! 8)
Are you kidding me? Aquaman was the worst Super Friend out there and that is including Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog
(http://www.lacosa.sion.com/ww/pix/series/ani/ani-04-07.gif)
That's pretty groovy. I don't see any Bat-Nipples, and I'll let the sad fact that I looked for them hang in the air a bit.
George Clooney almost has to be Mister Fantastic
On the DC side of things, there are rumblings that Jack Black might be cast to play the Green Lantern (http://www.superherohype.com/index.php?id=1737) in a "zany, Mask-like movie". Hmmmmm...
Really? I haven't been keeping up on any Batman Begins news, like, at all. I got my nuts busted at Red Mosquito for the Ra's Al Ghul pic.
According to SuperHeroHype.com (http://www.superherohype.com/fantasticfour/index.php?id=1821), it looks as if Dr. Doom has now been cast for the Fantastic Four movie as well. Guy by the name of Julian McMahon, from the FX Series nip/tuck. I'm not familiar with him, as I haven't seen the show, but here's a pic:And if you watch Charmed he's in that as well.

I'm personally really looking forward to the Man of Steel returning to the big screen.
The SIN CITY high res trailer (http://hal9000.ots.dk/~kurgan2/Public/sincity.mp4)
Definitely worth the download. It's 54MB, though.
In a bit of X-Men 3 news, numerous sources (including Variety and TVGuide) are reporting that two more mutants will be joining the fray in the third installment. Here is the supposedly "confirmed" casting:
Beast/Henry McCoy - Kelsey Grammer (Frasier)
Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde - Maggie Grace (Lost)
Some interesting choices. Although Grammer probably seems like a strange (and old) choice, he does have an excellent voice for the character, and from the information I have read, it is likely to be the 355 lb blue fur version of Beast, so it would likely involve a lot of makeup work and/or CGI effects, so age might not be a real factor.
Topher Grace = carnage??
I can't think of any other really sort of skinny villains that we haven't already seen the alter ego for in the movies. We've seen any number of the alter egos but who's missing? Weird.
As far as the FF goes, I can't think of anything other than the Invisible woman :o so I'll defer comment on Doom until after I see how it works in the movie itself. The trailer is interesting enough to me.
Hellboy 2 - The sequel to the THIRD BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER is gonna happen. I think all the original cast that survived HB1 is returning. Should be some huge monster-ass-kicking fun.
Here is the list of heroes schedules to be brought to the big screen under the new deal:
Captain America
The Avengers
Nick Fury
Black Panther
Ant Man
Cloak and Dagger
Dr. Strange
Hawkeye
Power Pack
Shang Chi
Hulk2 - Long-term in development. Don't know when or if we'll see it.

Hulk 2... I wish it would happen and I wish Ang Lee would direct again. The first one is the best Marvel film to date. Much better than the crappy, overrated Spider-Man movies.
Seeing the red sheild back on the screen got me all sorts of excited over this movie.

Year of Superman (http://www.warnervideo.com/yearofsuperman/)
Okay all you Hulk haters out there. I was one of about 3 people who actually liked this movie. The sequel has officially been confirmed. Unsure if the Erica Bana is returning yet (but he most likely will). He's going to be pitted against Abomination.4! I liked the movie quite a bit. Not as much as Spider-Man 2 or Batman Begins, but

Where the hell is the full trailer for Superman Returns? You'd think it'd be out by now.
From what I have been reading on the net, we should have a new Superman Returns trailer coming out I think within a couple of weeks. Looking forward to seeing more of this flick. 8)
Superman Returns Trailer Confirmed with M:i:III
Source: Hargon April 28, 2006
Superhero Hype! has confirmed that the new Superman Returns trailer will be enclosed in the can with Paramount's "Mission: Impossible III," opening next Friday, May 5th and will also be attached to all prints of WB's "Poseidon" the following week, on Friday, May 12th.
Warner Bros. has the trailer listed as 2 minutes and 28 seconds. Theaters will have access to it in digital format, so if you have the chance to catch "Mission: Impossible III" on a digital screen (it's going out to 135 digital theaters), then definitely do so!
Superman Returns flies into theaters, IMAX and IMAX 3D on June 30th.
Enjoy! 8)

Kiddy (is that how her name is spelt, its been so long).
Not a huge fan of the Supes casting or costume design, and have pretty low expectations for the movie... but damn, that's a fine looking poster.
You'll recall that we reported earlier this week that reports had been coming in from London that a new "Superman Returns" trailer had been seen before screenings of "The Da Vinci Code", well the trailer is now online for all to see.
Oh and make sure you stay right through the end credits, there is a small bit at the end that makes it all worthwhile.
"X-Men: The Last Stand" stormed to an estimated $107 million three-day opening, the largest ever for Memorial Day weekend and the fourth-biggest in box office history.
On the all-time list, "X-Men: The Last Stand" ranks behind only "Spider-Man," "Star Wars: Episode III" and "Shrek 2" for opening weekend gross. None of the other films opened on a holiday weekend, which usually gives movies a boost.
For Memorial Day openers, "X-Men" crushed the previous three-day high of $72 million, set by "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" in 1997.
Final box-office figures were expected Monday.
Who was the transvestite Latino? It resembled someone from X-Force.
Just came back from seeing X3. Much better than the first two IMO. Sat around for the extra scene at the end, but it wasn't anything special.

Why?
SoundtrackNet has an indepth article (http://www.soundtrack.net/features/article/?id=196) about the "Superman Returns" score, reviewing the entire album, track by track, allowing you to listen to snippets from every track!
The CD release comes with a four-minute video consisting of a one-minute interview with Bryan Singer, in which he discusses his working relationship with John Ottman and the reason why John Williams' original themes were integrated into the score, and a three-minute look at the scoring session as the "Main Titles" are performed by the orchestra. I believe it is safe to say that John Ottman will make us believe a man can fly again June 28.
so they have to all battle it out to see who is the best. Then, Venom wins. All the other villains die. Then what happens after that? Who knows...
In other superhero news, a recent interview (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/710/710853p1.html) with Jessica Alba again provided further confirmation on the appearance of the Silver Surfer in the next Fantastic Four movie. There is also supposed to be another new villain, in addition to previous reports of Dr. Doom making a comeback. Who knows at this point, further information at the linky. It will be interesting to see how they pull off the Surfer if this is true.
Spider-Man, perhaps? DareDevil?
Other people with Superpowers in NYC...

Also, Patrick Stewart would make for a good Vulture in any possible sequels. But I guess that would mess up the whole Marvel Universe if there were any character crossovers in the future ???
Jack Black (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=4394) is still in the running for the role of Green Lantern in a possible upcoming movie.

IESB has posted 11 Clips (http://iesb.net/warnerbros2006/061306.php) from Superman Returns - I'm sure spoilers are present, but if you want some peeks at the movie, clicky away :).
Jack Black (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=4394) is still in the running for the role of Green Lantern in a possible upcoming movie.
"The thing with the Green Lantern is it's all about the ring. All you need is to wear the ring and you've got the Green Lantern Powers. It could be anybody." - Jack Black during the interview
Yeah, sure! It could be ANYONE with a power ring and it'd be the same thing! ::)
I'm starting to feel the furious rage... (http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/mad.gif)
Another reason why Jack Black must be destroyed IMO. He sucks ass and GL would be turned into a damn joke. I hope that this whole idea was just some nasty Internet rumor or April Fools joke that went out of control.
Apparently the first Transformers teaser has been leaked via YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-uKst1Hd9c), how long it stays up there I don't know. I've read that it is to be "officially" released next week sometime, July 4th to be exact. Its not the clearest in the world, but it looks to be legit - we'll see I guess.
Also, I noticed some subtle things in it that seemed to hint at what they think about some of the talk in society from some people that they don't need God a part of people's lives. I thought with how this movie says how the world needed Superman, and and what seemed like several times hints at how mankind needs to have a Savior to look forward to, really was hitting at something deep inside what makes people who we are, and really liked that.
Yep, just got back from seeing Superman Returns, holy **** that was a great flick. 8)
Kevin Spacey is a great Lex, as with Frank Langella (Perry White) & Sam Huntington (Jimmy Olsen), fit the parts perfect.
Very nice to see a cameo of Jack Larson in this, he played Jimmy Olsen in the Adventures of Superman back in the 50's & mega buck man Sir Richard Branson.
I liked the way Singer implied that Supes stores power from the sun like a battery.
While taking in over $32 million on Wednesday and Thursday, "Superman Returns" managed to top the weekend box office with approximately $52.15 million in over 4,000 theatres, an average of $12,829 per theatre.
This takes the total so far to $84.3 million in five days, which exceeds both "Batman Begins" and Peter Jackson's "King Kong" in their first five days.
The movie enjoyed the highest five-day gross in Warner Bros. studio history, beating 2003's The Matrix Revolutions, which did $83.7 million in its first five days.
"Bryan [Singer] is just such a bright and creative individual. He had his own vision, and he was right and did a great job," said Dan Fellman, Warner head of distribution.
The movie should hit $110 million by Tuesday, Fellman said.
No Soundwave? What a crock.
From what I've seen and read, I'm not exactly instilled with much confidence. Shame too, because a live action TF done right would kick ass.
There are pics of Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream and Scorponok floating around. What a pile of ass. This has to be one of the easiest adaptations NOT to screw up, but it looks like they will succeed in making this a mess.
They sent this email to us at work ::)
“Transformers” Casting Call
Oasis Community Center, Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If you’ve ever wanted to be in a major Hollywood blockbuster, now’s your chance. Casting directors from the live-action “Transformers” motion picture will be on base Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Oasis Community Center. Anyone interested in appearing in the movie in a non-speaking role should come to the Oasis between these times.
The film, produced by Steven Spielberg (E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan) and directed by Michael Bay (Armageddon, Bad Boys, Pearl Harbor), is scheduled to shoot several scenes here September 6th. Any military member selected to appear as an extra in the picture must be able to take a day of leave (or be in a non-duty status) on September 6th in order to appear in the film. Those selected to appear in the film will earn $126 plus overtime if the shooting takes longer than 8 hours.
Please bring the attached form filled out and signed by your immediate supervisor just in case you are selected."
Ahhh, no thanks. We get these kind of emails all the time. Personally, I think the movie will blow even if it's Steven Speilberg so I wouldn't even want to participate in something I feel is gonna be a POS, AKA Power Rangers or Pokemon class movie.

So has anyone been watching Stan Lee's Superhero show on Sci-Fi? I've been watching it, and I really enjoy it... I'm hoping there is a season 2.

In the parts we've seen, my wife and I are pulling for "Major Victory".
Feedback had better win. He'll committ suicide if he doesn't.
Fat Momma will win simply because she was the underdog from the beginning.
Surfer looks good, although I can't see how you can **** up an all Silver dude who rides a surfboard.
A busy (down) weekend for the DC movies, as both Joss Whedon and David Goyer (http://movies.ign.com/articles/761/761295p1.html) have dropped out/been cut from the Wonder Woman and Flash movies, respectively. Sounds like they wanted to go in "different directions" in both cases.
There really is a big difference it seems. I enjoyed parts of X3, but looking back now and comparing them, they do seem a little different quality-wise.
DC does seem to be lagging behind Marvel in the movie department, with just Batman and Superman so far, and it seems like they have a lot of characters with the potential to have nice movies (Flash, WW, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Aquaman, etc.)
... and it seems like they have a lot of characters with the potential to have nice movies (Flash, WW, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Aquaman, etc.)
They did alot of filming out here of Iron Man (on the airbase). I didn't realize just how short Downey Jr actually is.

New trailer for 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' 2 (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/) is up.
Wow! Just ******* Wow! :o 8)
Who is the guy in the hood that keeps showing up? Can't be Doom...?
I believe the "mysterious figure in hood" is Dr. Doom, who is supposed to have a more traditional "comic book" look at some point in this movie. We'll see I guess.
Iron Man's movie armor (red and yellow) (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20037509,00.html) has been posted at EW.com. Check it out at the linky.
Anyone know who Iron Man's first villian will be? Mandarin seems like the most likely to me...
I thought the first FF sucked, this one looks a bit better but not much
I thought is was good, not amazing but good. It was better than Daredevil, Hulk, and Elektra in my opnion. This new one looks like it will be awesome.
Piss off for not putting up a spoiler warning.
Kevin
Finally saw the trailer for FF2 and I always thought that the Silver Surfer was a good guy?? It's obvious that he's the main villan in this movie. Maybe I'm getting him confused with that ice guy..
SuperHeroHype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5638) has a hi-res pic of the Iron Man armor up now, it looks pretty nice. There's also a new pic of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
Be on the lookout for Silver Surfer quarters (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720). It sounds like there will be about 40,000 in circulation this summer.

Cool marketing idea.
Must have been a lot of work to work with the Mint in regards to producing legal tender with a comic book character on it.

yeah...everytime I think about this it makes me a little sick. When did our nation's currency get a "this space for rent" attached to it? If the mint wanted to make some commemorative coins, fine. For it to be legal tender, and an ad campaign? Absurd.
Actual Schrute Bucks? :P

yeah....i was totally bummed when Spiderman turned out to be just another average joe gets superpowers, learns to use them, learns to strugggle with personal life, coming of age story.
My point was how much I hate trailers that give away too much is all, NM then.
DS
The Silver Surfer quarters were NOT made by the US Mint. The government was not involved really...
The Franklin Mint (a private company) took legal US California Quarters and stamped a full-color Surfer artwork on the California side. If you look closely at the high-res image (http://mms.businesswire.com/bwapps/mediaserver/ViewMedia?mgid=96326&vid=5) you can still see the California artwork on there, it's just harder to see with the color stamped on it.
It's kind of similar to people writing a web address or graffitti on a dollar or something. And it's not the first time someone has done it - the Franklin Mint has been doing this for years for other promortions, it's just the first time someone is using it to sell a movie.
It sounds like the Teen Titans (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5773) are on their way to the big screen as well now, or at least in the early stages.
Sweet - about time DC got going on something other than Supes and Batman. Wonder if it will be the old lineup, 80's lineup, or current lineup?
ThunderCats movie would be pretty cool. I hope it happens.Hoooooooooe!
**** the Smurfs
LaLa LALALALAaaa :P ::)
I HATED that show. I think a dark movie like a Smurfs versus a miniature Leonidas' 300 legion would be great- a nice one sided battle with plenty of the homosexual little smurfs getting the **** kicked out of them, sliced and diced and what not, I'd pay to see THAT!
DS
Meh....until we get a Smurfs live action movie, I'm not going to be happy.
With Ray Park cast as Snake-Eyes...
According to the latest rumors (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=5892), Samuel Jackson may be making an appearance in the Iron Man movie, playing Nick Fury. It is likely a cameo, and obviously based on the Marvel Ultimate version, but interesting news if it turns out to be true.
Saw Fantastic Four 2 earlier today. Thought it was waaaay better than the first, the Surfer was especially cool. Still, Galactus was portrayed kind of weird, and Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba have absolutely NO chemistry whatsoever. It was really painful to watch.
So the 1997 Batman & Robin was on last night... And I watched it. The sad part is, when I was a wee youngling, that used to be my favorite Bat-flick. I got about 45 minutes in to the part where Bane dons a top hat and acts as chauffeur for Poison Ivy, then promptly turned it off. Between that and Mr. Freeze's ice skating lackeys, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, and Mr. Freeze's puns, I had enough. That movie is probably one of the worst ones of all time...we had a thread here a few years ago about movies you almost left in the theater...that was my choice. Terrible
Oh, and lets not forget these babies:

I'm pumped! Summer '08 looks like a great year for movies, Iron Man, new Batman, Hulk, Indy IV, Rambo IV.
This makes me think. If comic books are such great fodder for movies, why are comic book shops so few and far between? I've been looking for a comic book shop in my area. Everytime I get an address, it turns out the place closed. Heck, were do you even buy comic books anymore? Borders? Walmart?

I get my single issues at Borders, although I've stopped buying multiple single issues and am focusing on building up my TPB collection. I think the last single issue I bought was Amazing Spiderman #541. When given the oppurtunity, I will also rummage through yard sales for older single issues. I've found some pretty cool finds through garage/yard sales.

ESB Exclusive: The Latest on the Upcoming Justice League of America Film! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Sanchez
Friday, 17 August 2007
Will the Justice League of America live action feature film ever get off the ground? Much sooner than you may expect!
When the news broke that JLA (Justice League of America) was moving forward with a script written by Kiernan and Michele Mulroney, speculations began that the follow-up to Superman Returns, The Man of Steel, would be delayed or even completely scrapped.
WB studio sources quickly said that was just mere speculation and The Man of Steel was still planned for a first quarter 2008 start date. Even recently, Brandon Routh told us the same thing during a quick red carpet interview at the premiere for Transformers.
At the same time, we are hearing some execs over WB were not happy with the way Superman Returns performed regardless of the $390 million plus worldwide box office take and that’s why Justice League is being pushed through the studio at a record pace.
The JLA script has been received with open arms by Warners and the goal is for the film to be the launching point for The Flash, Wonder Woman, The Green Lantern and Aquaman as well as rejuvenate Superman.
When do the powers-that-be want to start production on Justice League? Apparently, as soon as the first quarter of 2008, that’s right, WB sources have informed the IESB that execs behind the Justice League of America want it to be in production as early as February/March 2008 to be ready for a summer of 2009 release.
What’s the rush? The pending strikes are definitely one of the reasons that Warner Bros. wants to move quickly on the ensemble pic. They also want to start building a fan base behind the new heroes that will help them go on to have their own stand-alone films.
Some questions arise. What will happen to The Man of Steel film that Bryan Singer has already signed on to do? Would Warner Brothers be willing to lose the money they would have to pay to Singer regardless if he directs the film or not? Will Christian Bale and Brandon Routh reprise their roles as Batman and Superman?
Some rumors indicate that studio execs have considered recasting Superman and a few names have popped up. But the honest truth is that the studio just does not know at this time whether Routh will return or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
And Batman? If Justice League starts production early ‘08 that would give Bale a three to five month break between “Batman” films. Would he do it? Would the production team behind the Batman films be accommodating? Would they allow one of their three-picture-options with Bale to be used on an ensemble film? Would Justice League be the last Batman film that Bale takes part in?
Those questions are the ones I have been trying to get answered but have not been able to get anyone to comment officially.
I want to be very clear about this, I want to see a JLA film very badly and I am pretty certain that George Miller will direct. The problem that I have is I can’t foresee the Nolan camp, including producer Charles Roven, to lose the third stand-alone Batman film by allowing Bale to JLA instead. Maybe Warners should bring a few of the Batman/TDK producers on board the JLA production to keep that camp happy.
Bottom line, the decision will come from Warner Bros., both Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are signed for a total of three films and one film can be an ensemble pic.
I have to wonder if they are willing to pay the huge amount of money to Bale to keep him for possible future JLA and Batman films. I definitely think he’s worth it but it’s not my checkbook.
Routh’s price tag is no where near Bale’s and I’d bet he’d be willing to do possible future JLA and Superman films.
Finally, what about Singer’s The Man of Steel? At this stage in the game, yes, it appears that the Man of Steel will be pushed back to accommodate Justice League.
Does that mean that Singer is out and the sequel to Superman Returns scrapped? Not likely.
As I mentioned earlier, Bryan Singer has already signed on to do The Man of Steel and his team is reportedly already working on the film. I find it hard to believe that the studio would be willing to lose the money that will have to be paid to Singer if they decide to drop the project. I just can’t see that happening.
Our sources have confirmed earlier reports that the Justice League of America film will consist of at least Superman (Clark Kent), Batman (Bruce Wayne), Wonder Woman (Princess Diana), The Flash (Barry Allen), Aquaman and the Green Lantern (John Stewart) and will follow the OMAC storyline and also feature Maxwell Lord.
Within a few weeks, George Miller should be confirmed as the director and casting should commence immediately. The priority for the studio will have to be to figure out what they are doing with Superman and Batman.
It would be a mistake on Warner Bros. part to recast Superman, Brandon did a fine job and under Miller’s direction he could do great, besides I hear that Warner Bros. really dug Bryan Singer’s take for the sequel and Michael Dougherty is already working on the new script.
Bottom line, Justice League of America will start shooting early 2008.
Stay tuned to the IESB as we bring you the latest Movie News!
What a jip.
Not necessarily a "superhero" movie, but the news this morning is that a G.I. Joe movie (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6240) has been confirmed by Paramount, with a release in summer of 2009. Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing, Mummy, Mummy Returns) has been attached to direct while Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night, Collateral, Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl) is on to write the script.
The Iron Man Teaser (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/) is now online. It looks like mostly the footage from Comic Con that was shown, but now its all nice and clear. This movie looks pretty good so far I think.

Looks pretty cool.
Punisher: Warzone (http://www.marvel.com/news/moviestories.1926.The_411_on_Punisher%3A_War_Zone)
It sounds pretty good. I enjoyed th efirst one, looking forward to the sequal.
Also, The L.A. Times (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/la-et-justiceleague5dec05,1,3969380.story?coll=la-headlines-entnews&ctrack=1&cset=true) is reporting that Adam Brody has landed the role of Flash in the upcoming JLA flick (which apparently isn't greenlit, according to this article as well).
A new pic from Iron Man is available at SuperHeroHype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6573), and it looks pretty sweet.
Oh, and there's also this rumor (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34962) at AICN hinting at a possible crossover between the Iron Man and Hulk films next year.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
- actress Teresa Palmer as Talia Al-Ghul
How Talia, daughter of Ra's al Ghul, fits into the whole thing is a bit strange though... ???
Not quite sure if this fits here or not, but its kind of/sort of a superhero/comic book movie:

Reynolds is an awesome choice. He's proved himself as an action hero and his comebacks & one-liners in Blade 3 totally reminded me of Spiderman, who totally remindes me of Deadpool's wisecracking.
The official Watchmen (http://rss.warnerbros.com/watchmen/) movie site has posted pics of a few of the characters from the movie: The Comedian, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Rorschach, and Silk Spectre. Check them out at the linky, if interested.

We haven't left our daughter once since she's been born, so it might be tough to do the first time. Maybe at Indy
Is it just me or did I catch a bit of the "Sad Walking Away" theme at the end of this?
So, I wonder if they will tie in The Avengers and a rampaging Hulk somehow in to this mix?
Thor and Captain America both have movies coming, add in Wasp and someone else and instant classic
You think you're the only ************* superhero in this world?
You think you're the only ************* superhero in this world?
Did he actually say that in your version? The ************* wasn't there in the one I saw.
Sweet movie, BTW. :) Great blend of action and humor. And seeing the different phases of armor for the first time geeked me out big time.

FYI - E News reported that Iron Man 2 already has a planned release date of April 2010. ;D
Looks like we'll be seeing Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America & Avengers in the upcoming years.
I got a chance to catch Iron Man over the weekend too, and I really liked it. Even though it had been getting pretty positive reviews, it still exceeded my expectations. It might be one of my favorite "superhero" movies of all time. I thought the acting (Downey Jr. in particular) was outstanding. He is Tony Stark. Very, very good.
It looks like it had a huge opening weekend, and has lead to Marvel Studios announcing more official release dates: (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=7165)
Iron Man 2 - April 30, 2010
Thor - June 4, 2010
The First Avenger: Captain America - May 6, 2011
The Avengers - July, 2011
I really like how Marvel is doing (or at least planning to do) this series, by establishing each of the "big guns" in their own movies, and then using the same actors for the big Avengers team up. If all the movies are up near the caliber of Iron Man, it could really be awesome.
I think I read that somewhere... ;)
Dark Horizons is reporting Matthew McConaughey is the lead contender to play Captain America. He definitely looks the part, but I never imagined Captain America to be as soft-spoken as McConaughey is. I don't know if I can recall any film where McConaughey really screamed or yelled. I didn't see We Are Marshal, so maybe he went off on coaching rants there. That'd be akin to what I'd expect from Cap leading the troops against the Nazis. So you could say that I'm intrigued, but skeptical.
Who would have been your first choice?
Wouldn't it constitute a conflict of interest for Justin Hartley to lead both the JLA and the Avengers? ;D
Cap became a member of the vintage Avengers in like the second issue or something. So including him isn't that big a stretch. They'll probably find his ice cube to start the film. In the Ultimate Universe they're called the Ultimates, and he was one of the founding members.

I just don't see why he needs to be called THE FIRST Avenger.
Thomas Jane would be a decent choice IMO.
What about Titan (http://www.nbc.com/American_Gladiators/bios/titan.shtml) from American Gladiators. ****, most of them have comic book character physiques. :P
This guy (http://www.nbc.com/American_Gladiators/bios/wolf.shtml) would make a decent Sabretooth. :P
Whatever happened to the Black Panther movie that Wesley Snipes was attached to a few years back? I clearly remember him being the one to want to do this movie.
Also, my choice for Thor would be Brad Pitt via the look he had in Troy. I just cant see some of those other characters beefing up for the necessary look. Just like I dont see Liev Schrieber pulling off Sabretooth. They should of kept the original actor from the first X-Men movie to keep some consistency.
As far as McConaughey playing Cap, it just doesnt make sense to me. Thomas Jane would be a decent choice IMO.
And then you factor in that the Punisher movie with Thomas Jane didn't do that well. And he didn't get recast for Punisher War Zone.
Caught Iron Man this afternoon. Pretty good flick and Downey Jr. did a fantastic job for his character. I've never read a comic book in my life so I have no idea what the bonus footage at the end of the flick is for. I won't say anything for those of you who haven't seen it yet. ;)
Whatever happened to the Black Panther movie that Wesley Snipes was attached to a few years back? I clearly remember him being the one to want to do this movie.
Very cool. I confess I missed it too; I was too busy staring at Ms. Potts.
IGN (http://movies.ign.com/articles/876/876052p1.html) has a little bit of info on some upcoming Marvel movies, courtesy of some information from Marvel Studios head Kevin Fiege. Not much, but the following was mentioned:
Matthew McConaghey as Steve Rogers/Cap rumors are "untrue"
Thor movie will mostly (but not fully) take place in Asgard
That IS Captain America's shield in the Iron Man movie
I'm hoping Hulk dosn't suck just so that Marvel is in a position to move forward with the Avenger plans they're seeming putting in place. But, having said that, I can't seem to get very psyched up about a Hulk movie. He's not one of the superheroes I've ever had interest in. I guess I just don't get it.
I'm looking forward to Hancock more than Hulk. But, I may actually go to the theater to see Hulk unlike the first one which just looked terrible from the beginning (and mostly was).

I dont think it was a secret at all that Robert Downey would be appearing in the Hulk.

It was to me until I read into this thread. ??? Of course, I don't follow comics, so I have no idea if Ironman & Hulk are friends or whatever.

Same here. I haven't heard it spoiled elsewhere, though haven't been reading up on Hulk much. They obviously have a plan to tie these movies together and I think that's awesome.
Justin
PS - I don't think Hulk and Stark are buddies, but Stark and Banner might be science buddies. Or maybe they bring in the world's leading weapons producer to fight the Hulk.
Sorry guys, I thought it was pretty well known especially with the SLJ cameo fresh in people minds. :-[

So is that why the show Heroes is called "Heroes" and not "X-men: the series"??? You do kknow Stan Less did a cameo last season on Heroes.
There is a TV trailer floating around the net with the cameo of Stark & there is another cameo in the flick which I will remain (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/djustus/Opening%20Figures/Zip.gif)

Posting this here since it's a super hero movie, but I read a review of Hancock that detailed the plot... it doesn't sound too good at all. :-\

It sounds like that particular cameo was cut out of the film...
But, the cameo appearance footage of that character is going to be posted on the 'net soon and should be put on the DVD when it's released (according to the director, in an interview at a comic news website). I'd keep an eye on the "superhero/comic" websites because I'm sure they will find it when it goes up. :)
Here's the SPOILER link (http://www.newsarama.com/film/080612-CapNotHulk.html) to the story if you'd like to have it spoiled... :D

That's too bad - the premise was actually starting to grow on my a little. Is it just a crap ending?
Basically Jason Bateman becomes Hancock's PR agent and tries to turn him into a "good" superhero (he's hated by the city for the destruction he causes despite saving people, and has alcohol problems as a result) and it turns out that Bateman's wife (Charlize Theron, I think) is somehow related to Hancock (due to some past event involving memory loss) and the closer the two are to each other, the weaker their powers get.
Not this time. The final scene of the film is kind of like what was after the credits on the Iron Man film. I did actually stay all the way till the end and so did quite a few others. Guess IM had them in that frame of mind.
E...
Im sure once the DVD comes out we will see the Capt America scene..good way to get people to buy it.
Saw Hulk today and loved it.
I actually enjoyed it more than Iron Man.
There were some plot points that you could see coming
I'll admit that the premise behind Hancock's origins were a little out there
Some of the action scenes were a little overdone and that's a pet peeve of mine...fast action, quick cuts, close perspective. Everything gets mixed up and hard to follow and I really dislike that.
Sooo...what exactly did you like about it? ;D
I liked Jason Bateman's character.
He was brilliant in Arrested Development. I think that opened a lot of doors for him.
I liked Jason Bateman's character.
Jason Bateman deserves some kind of award for world's greatest career revival. He pops up all over the place in supporting roles and is absolutely brilliant in all of them.

Well that is better news. :)

Nothing great.
One more reason to hate Fox media.
You know, I can't even really get excited about a Wonder Woman movie. Dark or otherwise. I'd be interested to see a Green Lantern or Green Arrow film, though. Flash...eh.

Are you saying you wouldn't want to see Scarlett Johansson in a loincloth?
While I'm in favor of seeing a new Conan film, I just don't have much interest in Scarlett Johansson.
E...
Uhhhh....okay. You're interested in seeing a movie about a big bruiser wearing nothing, but have no interest in what might be Scarlett Johansson in a Red Sonja outfit? ???
You're the first person I've even known not to find Scarlett Johansson to be stunning.
I would be seriously disapointed to see Cap as anything other than an agile, well muscled caucasion with short blonde hair. He's been an icon for what, fifty years? And has looked pretty much exactly the same in every rendition over that time period. If they want to make Nick Fury the Ultimates version, that's one thing, but I think having "the look" of the character is just as important as being a good actor. After the spot on rendition of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, I can't see Marvel moving away from this trend.
As for who it should be - I'm sure there are lots of great actors that would fit the look for Thor or Cap. I know a lot of people don't like him, but I think Casper Van Dien would make a super Cap. I'd rather see him or some lesser known or unknown actor than someone like a Brad Pitt.
The newest rumor and speculation (http://blog.newsarama.com/2008/09/15/eva-longoria-and-a-stack-of-comics/) after Eva Longoria-Parker was seen/photographed leaving Marvel Studios offices with some Avengers comics is that she may be playing the Wasp in the upcoming Avengers movie (or possibly cameos in other movies?). Nothing confirmed at this point, but you'd think she would have to be at the Marvel Studios offices for a reason.
Not really a "movie" I guess, but it sort of relates...
Robin - Smallville Style? (http://www.newsarama.com/tv/100801-GraysonsonCW.html)
"young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up."
"Young DJ"?!? BLEEEEEEETCHHHHHH. Thanks for trying to **** up poor Dick Grayson ever further DC. First, you tried to kill him during Infinite Crisis, now this? >:(
I absolutely hate, hate, hate when DC tries to "merge" characters together... if they want a show about a regular teenage boy before he becomes Robin, then pick the Robin that WAS a regular teenage boy before he became Robin - Tim Drake! Ugh!
[/end fan boy rant]
Sounds like there could be a new James "Rhodey" Rhodes (http://www.superherohype.com/news/ironmannews.php?id=7729) in Iron Man 2, now played by Don Cheadle.
Not necessarily a "movie", but it looks like the Avengers are getting their animated due with a new series (http://www.newsarama.com/tv/100808-Avengers-Animated.html), launching in 2011 (in time for the movie bonanza). Hopefully it will be good. I caught an episode or two of the 90s series on Toon Disney the last couple weeks, yikes that was bad. Anyways, looking at the press release (and art), it looks like it will feature Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant Man, and the Wasp. It looks like Marvel is finally stepping up the animation game with new Wolverine/X-Men and Iron Man cartoons on the way in 2009, and now Avengers in 2011. Plus the really great Spectacular Spider-Man toon airing now, which I really enjoy. Anyways, I'm sure these are all aimed at the kiddos, but I enjoy a good superhero cartoon now and again :).
I think its funny how all these new incarnations of the Avengers still have Captain America in them, but they killed him off in the comics over a year ago.
QuoteI think its funny how all these new incarnations of the Avengers still have Captain America in them, but they killed him off in the comics over a year ago.
Yeah, although the book has still been quite good I think - I miss Steve Rogers, and have a feeling he'll be "back" in the comics in time for his movie in 2011, if not sooner.
Yeah, that pretty much sucks. How much money could Terrence Howard have wanted?
Don Cheadle is a top-notch actor, but I don't think he's right for the role.

Thor doesn't really need to be a great actor, IMHO. I wouldn't recommend somebody with no acting experience like HHH, but the role certainly doesn't call for a thesp like Norton or Downey. Thor's a god... he should be up there like Heston's Moses.

Know who would be fantastic? Vinnie Jones.
I think Loki is the much more critical casting decision in that film.
SuperHeroHype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/ironmannews.php?id=7763) has news that Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau are both officially signed on for not only Iron Man 2, but also the Avengers. The Boy Wonder won't be flying into primetime after all.
The CW and Warner Bros. TV have been forced to scrap their plans for "The Graysons." Show, which had been given a put pilot commitment, was set to revolve around Batman sidekick Robin in his pre-Caped Crusader days.
Decision to yank the project came from Warner Bros. Pictures Group prexy Jeff Robinov, who initially gave his blessing but changed his mind in recent days.

Here’s yet another Batman 3 casting rumor for you to chew on, along with the Rachel Weisz as Catwoman gossip from yesterday. The Sun claims that Eddie Murphy has been signed to play the Riddler and Shia LaBeouf is set to play Robin. This is entirely untrue.
We spoke to a proven industry source of ours earlier tonight who confirmed to us not only that the rumor is a fake, but where and how The Sun got their information. Unfortunately, in order to protect our source's anonymity we can’t tell you. Ain’t that fun? But we're certain, there’s no truth to this at all.
Besides, you don’t need us to tell you that British newspapers have pretty much the worst track record ever when it comes to breaking movie news. They’re nearly always wrong. Well they’re wrong again.
That same proven source however says that Rachel Weisz is a real possibility to play Catwoman. That’s not wrong. Also correct are the rumors that Nolan is actually ready to start making it. Our insider insists that the movie is further along than we’ve all been lead to believe. Nolan is back, Bale is back, and so is Michael Caine. The rest is still up in the air.
Yeah I call crap on the Batman news too.
Bale has said repeatedly there is no way he will be there if there is a Robin involved.
And the casting for the Riddler Pfft

Possible, but that seems unlikely given how close Marvel has stayed to other comic figure origins.
Mickey Rourke as the Crimson Dynamo
Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer
Smells of BS to me. Wishful fanboy thinking. Like Depp as the Riddler. And I don't think Rourke would pass as Russian, and he's too old for the role.
Newsarama (http://blog.newsarama.com/2009/03/09/is-marvel-brewing-a-dark-fantastic-four/) has posted that rumors are going around that Fox is looking to reboot both the Fantastic Four and Daredevil movie franchises with "darker" takes and all new casts/etc.
While the costume was amazing, I don't think the Thing ever looked big enough. He was like Dwarf Thing. Next time I hope he's CG. Chiklis would be great as the voice, and Chris Evans was just about perfect as Johnny, but I don't think Mr. Fantastic of the Invisible Woman were all that well cast. Neither had the gravitas to pull it off. Not that I'll ever complain about watching Alba...

I think DC needs to jump things off with a Justice League type movie, then see which characters test well with the audience and go from there. And I mean the original Justice League that my generation is familiar with, not the new school, Go back to when Aquaman had human hands, Dick Grayson was Robin, Hal Jordan was Green Lantern, that kind of stuff. I'm not calling for the Wonder twins or Wunder-Mutt, just some old school characters..heck let them fight the Legion of Doom. Just don't let the guys doing the GI Joe movie do it...
Warners sees the big-screen version as a gritty fantasy and reimagines Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.
Maybe not "technically" a superhero, but I didn't want to start a new thread necessarily. I just saw this story (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3if21dd856cfb9103e324a67c37b80b5c5) detailing how "Grayskull" (the new take on MOTU) has gotten a new writer. Their description of the movie sort of concerned me though:QuoteWarners sees the big-screen version as a gritty fantasy and reimagines Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.
Now, I've been watching some of the old school episodes lately while on the treadmill (got one of the DVD sets on Amazon for $10) - and it seems to me that "magic" is a pretty big part of the Skeletor character (not to mention some of his cronies). I do wonder how well MOTU could translate to the screen, but if it is done, hopefully they have a better take than this.
I don't see how He-Man could be adapted into a good movie. It's just such a silly franchise. How do you put that on the screen for today's audience?

Some Capt. America movie plot points from the director - spoilers apply (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2010/02/captain-america-will-be-a-uso-performer-in-the-movie-director-says.html)
... I can't wait to read what the Marvel guys have to say about the new Cap origin. :-X
I never read the comics, but I remember seeing Ironman in some cartoons as a kid and thought he was kinda cool. The first movie was great so I'm really looking forward to part 2. I even caved on a few figures - unfortunately.
From what I understand, Glen Larson is going to produce and may have much more to do with it than just a "creator" title, which is pretty much all he had on the Syfy TV series. It doesn't sound like it's going to have anything to do with the Syfy series, but more of a continuation or reboot of the original series.
In other words, except for the last of humanity fleeing from the Cylons, it may not have much in common with the TV series.

I think it's safe to assume these will all be stolen from theaters as soon as they go up... :P
While we're on the topic of comic book movies, who else is psyched to see Kick-Ass this weekend? I don't know if my local theater is doing any early showing but, if not, I'll be at the first show Friday morning.
E...
Just read on Marvelousnews.com that Stan Lee would another reboot of the Hulk. Seriously.
I know that the Hulk is very recognizable and well-known, but I just haven't been able to get into the character by himself all that much. I really didn't care for the first movie (with Eric Bana), but like "The Incredible Hulk" pretty well. I don't know that I'd necessarily want or need to see a sequel, but I'm ok with Hulk being a supporting character/antagonist in the Avengers franchise or something. I don't think a reboot is necessary either.

Wow, those all sound awful. They're going to overdo the superhero genre.
Giant Robot Spider's Wild Wild West. :P
Let's not forget The Hobbit at the end of 2012.
;)
From what I had read/heard online, there is an extra scene after the credits. Not during, after.
Also half the theater stayed for the scene after the credits and then let out a collective "huh?" afterward. I swear I was the only one who was excited for was going on, and I don't know a thing about [spoiler censored]!
But Iron Man was just fighting off robots that were attacking him...and then he gets a medal? Huh?

Wait....you can't have that villain without the FF. And the human torch is now playing Captain America. And Captain American is an Avenger. But you can't have that villain without the FF....aaaand my brain just broke.
What do you want to watch me do, Dressel? :P

I'd prefer the backseat of a car outfit change one...
Rumored five candidates to play Spidey (http://blog.newsarama.com/2010/05/27/could-one-of-these-guys-play-spider-man/) in the upcoming movie (pics/names at the linky). Who knows if this is true, because we saw all of those Cap lists, and then Chris Evans came out of nowhere and got that role. I don't really know any of these guys on the Spidey list very well, but if it comes down to one of these guys - with the direction they are going now (younger/High School)- I think I'd like to see Hutcherson get it. He's got a good Parker look, and I think he's only like 17 or something. If they are going the HS route, I don't want a 27 year old playing him. I also think he's the only one (aside from the one who played young Tom Riddle) that I've even seen in a movie.2012 sounds like an awesome movie year
Other Superhero-related news.... (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/101698-cartoon-network-planning-green-lantern-series) apparently Cartoon Network/WB are planning a Green Lantern: The Animated Series show as well. It isn't scheduled for release until two years after next year's movie, but still cool. Personally, I really hope this is in the "DCAU" world, as I really enjoy all of those shows (and hopefully get Timm, etc. to work on it). In other news, it sounds like they are shooting for "holiday 2012" for the next Superman movie, and are close to greenlighting "the Flash" soon as well. Adding Supes to 2012, we'd have Avengers, Spidey, Batman, and Superman in the same year so far.
The thing I always find funny is how they say the original comics outfits (colored spandex etc.) would look goofy in live action, and then come up with outfits that are pretty goofy looking anyway. I often wonder though, if someone went with a perfect comic to screen representation of a comic costume (lets go with Wolverine and his bright yellow spandex.) but the story and acting we're brilliant, could an audience get past the silly looking costume and get into the film? I know they'll never take a chance like that, but I'd love to see it someday, just to know if it can be done and be taken seriously.
I don't know how I can be so in love with all things Marvel, and have such an aversion to DC. But as of right now I do not even plan to see Green Lantern.
On the collecting front, I have about 150 of the 3 3/4" Marvel figures, but zero DC figs.
I can't even really articulate why DC doesn't interest me. It's just different.
Any word on Iron Man 2 DVD exclusives? Planning on picking up the 2 disc next week, but I'm sure each store will have extra "goodies."
I went to this on Saturday with SWMBO and enjoyed it. Far from the greatest movie ever but good enough for popcorn. Won't say it's good enough for a sequel but I'm sure that's on the way regardless.Green Hornet?
The question in my mind though is this: What was the point of this being in 3D? Aside from my general dislike of 3D this went waaaaaaay beyond that. Throughout the movie I kept slipping the glasses down to see if there was anything happening and other than being blurry the answer for the most part was no. So I guess this then is how they jack movie prices by $3? And the ad at the start telling me to be green and recycle my glasses? Kiss my ass. If you'd let those responsible enough to retain their glasses and pay a reduced fee if they bring them it'd be a hell of a lot more environmentally friently than repackaging the damn things for every 3D movie that comes out. Gimme a break.
If you are interested, then see it. If you've got the option to watch it in 2D for a reduced price, you won't be missing much of anything.
Green Hornet?
So.....Spawn was on this morning while I was getting ready and it got me thinking. Why no remake on that turd?
Is Spawn still popular?
Is Spawn still popular?
Was Thor ever popular? Seemed to do ok...
Maybe the previous characters could have camos.
Hopefully... [snip] ...it doesn't kill any potential for any non Batman/Superman DC movies (like Flash or JLA).
From the IGN review:QuoteThis was DC and Warner Bros.' best bet yet at establishing a deeper bullpen of big screen superheroes beyond Batman and Superman, but the film is bad enough to possibly kill any hope for ever seeing The Flash or Justice League.
Now why can't Uncle George make Star Wars movies that like?
Lets have a Star Wars movie staring one character's adventure. Follow it with another character and another. Maybe the previous characters could have camos. Finally have a movie where all the staring characters paths cross and they meet up for a common goal.

They already did this. Star Wars Origins: Luke Skywalker is known as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
My main problem with some of the costumes, and not just this one, is that the comic versions that everyone loves don't necessarily work in the real world. Not only do they not always look good, Wonder Woman, but they don't seem practical.
Wolverine in his yellow/blue/black outfit is classic, but I'm going to be honest, the leather outfit from the X-Men films was way more badass for the real world. The Captain America outfit from the film? Liked it much better than the tights version we're getting in Avengers (at least based on the promo photos).
There are outfits that I like in the comics but when you think about what a superhero would wear in the real world in 2011 there's a big difference. Someone not bulletproof, like Batman, is going to use rip-stop, puncture resistant and bulletproof material wherever possible, not go to Jo-Ann Fabrics and buy a bunch of spandex. The only exception I can think of to this is Spider-Man. I think the spandex look from the films worked.
The Wolverine yellow uniform is iconic, but in a real world setting it would probably look silly.

FF and X-Men are controlled by Fox, and Spidey is controlled by Sony so there is little chance of cross-over. Those "universes" are separate from each other and the Avengers' "universe."
That is a bit of an exaggeration though. You had one film about the Cosmic Cube, and one film with Loki BEFORE The Avengers, which is designed as a cross-over vehicle. All of the films stand on their own pretty well. You did not need to see Iron Man or Thor to enjoy Captain America. I think we've seen the last of the Cosmic Cube, and possibly Loki, unless he appears in Thor's sequel. You can't say that The Avengers and the films leading up to it were about Thanos; he appeared for a few seconds.
Yeah - I about fell our of my chair at the suggestion of an Aquaman movie. ;D
Marvel and Fox discuss Silver Surfer/Galactus swap for DD extension:
http://www.newsarama.com/film/marvel-fox-character-swap-galactus-daredevil.html (http://www.newsarama.com/film/marvel-fox-character-swap-galactus-daredevil.html)
Apparently Marvel Studios is discussing a deal with Fox that would allow them to get an extension on their in development DD movie (they lose the rights Oct 10 or something I believe I read) in exchange for the return of the movie rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus. I'd like to see them get the entire F4 back (really, all of the Marvel characters back), but this seems like a good movie - particularly with them going more cosmic with Guardians of the Galaxy.
UPDATE: Apparently FOX is denying this now, so who knows what's going on
Considering the direction that the Avengers took with the Chitauri and their "Ally", I think it would be interesting to see the Silver Surfer and Galactus make their way into that comic universe. After all, the Avengers are about taking on monumental threats. Silver Surfer and Galactus represent the kind of threat that the Avengers are about.

It sounds like, with the upcoming Oct 10th date looming, Fox has decided to let Daredevil's rights go back to Marvel. It sounds like, since her movie was released in 2005, Elektra may still remain with Fox, but everything else is going back to the House of Ideas.

Sounds like Fox has chosen their new Fantastic Four (for the reboot on the way next year):
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/20/fox-sets-fantastic-four-reboot-cast (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/20/fox-sets-fantastic-four-reboot-cast)
Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards - Miles Teller
Invisible Woman/Susan Storm - Kate Mara
Human Torch/Johnny Storm - Michael B. Jordan
The Thing/Ben Grimm - Jamie Bell
Black widow is Russian, thus white.
Wait wait wait. They can make The Torch Black, but Doom and Black Widow are off limits? If they can make Sue's brother another race then they can damn sure change anything. There are no black people in Russia?
Pretty sure there are Eastern European blacks as well.
Why can't Punisher just be Hispanic? Is being Italian essential to his character?
That's the most ridiculous rebuttal I've ever heard. The fact is that they won't make Doom black because it would be considered racist, and they won't make a black hero like Panther or Luke Cage white because that would be racist. Making white guys black is no problem though for some reason.
I don't mind revisions to the classics, but count me among those bothered by the trend of changing races or sexes of well known characters. It reeks of publicity stunt, intended or not and it just isn't needed.
There were no white guys qualified to play the Torch? Come on.
So yeah - the idea that Black Widow could be black is patently ridiculous. That is unless you're ragingly ignorant.
So I think, unless you have some damning statement I haven't seen, you need to give the director the benefit of the doubt. If you're not comfortable with Johnny being black for some non-racist reason, please share.
Then I gave examples where certain characters, based on their back-stories, necessarily need to be certain races. You largely dismissed those out of ignorance.
If you want to get upset about this movie - get upset about the fact that this production may end up being complete garbage because it's a rush-job to help 20th Century Fox retain Fantastic Four rights.
Precisely. I was called out as a racist on FB this weekend over this topic. Of course the back-pedaling that happened when I suggested Matt Damon be cast as Black Panther was laughable.
So I think, unless you have some damning statement I haven't seen, you need to give the director the benefit of the doubt. If you're not comfortable with Johnny being black for some non-racist reason, please share.
Since it sounds like you are calling me a racist, I will say it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with how the characters were created. I would have the same problem if they cast a white guy to play black panther or a white woman for storm. Not accurate to the original comics.
Honestly, for the cost why not just sell the rights to Disney?
Since this new F4 movie will be a reboot it seems likely they'll go back to Doom. Fox rebooted X-Men and went right back to Magneto as the villain so... Track record? I'd be more than happy to see a different villain, though.
I liked that the reboot of Spider-Man didn't go with Goblin but Lizard instead, seeing as how he was teased in two previous films. Even though we're getting Goblin in the second...eh.

Magneto didn't really emerge as the villain until the end of the movie. Shaw was the baddy in the reboot.
Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Captain America: Serpent Society??
I'd love to see a solo Hawkeye film. He's got a number of solo books to pull from and the current comic focusing on what Hawkeye does when he's not an avenger is excellent source material. As a guy without crazy super powers, there's a lot more opportunity to character build versus the non-stop action we get from most of the Avengers. Truth be told though, I'd love to see Phase 4 be a "West Coast Avengers" storyline where Hawk creates a sister team out in California.
I thought I heard mention of Mockingbird, so maybe they're already going this route.
In the comic, Stark handed the IM gig over to Rhodey, so Black-Iron-Man and later War Machine were a big part of that team. Would be a cool way to keep the Avengers going if RDJ and the other big names want a break or just limit their involvement to cameos akin to Sam Jackson's Fury.

You have to wonder if FOX is trying to have this film bomb so they can try to sell the rights back to Marvel and just concentrate on X-Men.
The other thing to remember is Disney/Marvel still own all the non-movie rights to the characters. If people are still going to buy X-Men, F4, and Spiderman comics, it would only cost Marvel money to not put them out....and toys, t-shirts, mugs, and other associated chotchkies...

Only thing I don't like so far is the casting credit of Evangeline Lilly as "Hope" Van Dyne...what was wrong with Janet?
I don't give a **** what her name is as long as she shows up in a skintight costume. I've had the hots for Evangeline since Lost. Pretty awkward during the last two Hobbit films where I got wood because she was dressed as an elf.
There's also a 3-3/4" Ant Man with a winged ant queen that's due out soon.

Yes, and when I posted that it was still a pre-order. So? The whole one-upmanship pattern of your posts recently is very unbecoming.

Caught Ant Man last weekend and it easily cracked the top five from Marvel for me. Great storyline and the right mix of action and humor with lots of little ties into the bigger Marvel U. I keep waiting for something Marvel to fail, but everything they touch turns to gold.EVERYONE is waiting for Marvel to fail. I actually saw someone predicting that Cap 3 will be the one. My bet is this person probably predicted that every picture since Avengers is goinG to be the one. Sooner or later, they will be right, I suppose.
Every time they showed that little tank keychain i kept thinking "MacGuffin!" and sure enough. ;)
MacGuffin is a random item that the characters are searching for. Typically, you can swap out anything for the MacGuffin and the plot won't really change. But I know what you meant - they were foreshadowing.
But it's kind of a big plot hole - if Pym Particles reduce the distance between atoms, the weight of the object should be unchanged. You wouldn't be carrying around 10-ton tank in your pocket.
Ah - I don't think that's how they explained it in the movie. But I'll roll with it.

Saw the Fantastic Four reboot last night. Was not the worst movie I have ever seen, but it wasn't good either. Definitely left me at the end thinking "that's it?!?"Why do fantastic four movies do so poor?
If you were even thinking about giving this movie a chance, don't, save your money, watch it when it comes to cable and had such a cheap cable deal that one of the HBO channels is practically running it on repeat.
It will always fail as long as these dopes keep trying to drag the story into present day. It is at its essence a period piece, a Cold War fable that is out of place in any other time. I have always said this should be done like Cap America 1, true to its roots. Like Mad Men meets the Avengers.
And stop screwing with the core dynamics of the team and every other little thing you can find to tweak. (Like the costumes, always the worst costumes) do it like you actually respect the source material.

In the meantime, Josh Trank is being petulant. He posted to Twitter (http://variety.com/2015/film/news/fantastic-four-director-implies-that-fox-is-responsible-for-bad-reviews-1201558644/) that he had a fantastic vision for the FF film, but unfortunately people won't see that. He quickly deleted that tweet, but basically accused Fox of meddling in the process. But looking at this from an outside perspective it seems as though Josh Trank wasn't prepared to step up to direct as big of a project as this FF reboot with a clear, defined vision.
+1 I was mostly put off by the character changes. The guy playing Reed looks like a teenager, Sue looks slutty/confused, and Johnny's not black.
or to use a better tested director.
Yeah, Reed should be older than the rest of them too, except for maybe Ben. He's a tweed jacket pipe smoking guy with grey sideburns the first time you ever even see him. There's a reason Ben always calls him "high pockets". He's conservative, older and uptight...the Mr Ward Cleaver of super heroes.
I won't even get into the nonsense of Galactus being realized as a giant cloud since that was just ridiculous, and that second FF film could have been better with a different script.
You mean a giant guy with big boots and a huge hat isn't ridiculous enough?
Seeing "Ant Man" tonight. This will be the first "Comic Super Hero" movie I've ever initiated being willing to pay money to go see in the theater (I probably would have with "Guardians of the Galaxy", but just waited for Blu Ray). Fingers crossed. I'm counting on all of your opinions.

So how'd you like it?
A February release for Black Panther? Wow. February is usually where most movies go to die. That is, unless, if Disney/Marvel are trying to claim a part of the year that generally goes un-served by genre films.
