Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Toy Recalls - What's Next?
« on: August 15, 2007, 01:38 PM »
I never though magnets would be any more of an issue than a kid swallowing a coin or something similar.  It never occurred to me that if there were two of them they could attract to each other across the walls of intestine and cause a tear and other problems.

The Magnetix toys brought out that revelation.

****, on farms you put magnets in cows on purpose to attract things like nails and whatnot so that they don't make it to the intestines or damage the stomach.  Obviously, people aren't cows, but still, the magnet problem just wasn't something that occurred to me till last year.

Now, lead paint on the other hand, we've know about that for as long as I can remember.  I remember there being product recalls on fast food glasses back in the early 80's due to lead in the paint and problems they were having in apartment complexes with lead based trim paint and kids teething on it.

   E...

Ugh, no thanks on the cow visual

- on lead paint, believe it or not that was still an issue at several military installations in the last 5 years. Many homes involved. As well as asbestos issues too. Stems from alot of old 1950-60's homes still existing on bases-most of them are being demolished now- alot of the bases have been getting more modern style housing over the last few years.

..but I thought we all knew that about the magnet issue?

Based on what?  You didn't link an article referencing this, you admitted that you weren't up to speed on the whole magnet thing since your kids were older, and E Franks referenced a Magnetix recall from last year.

Sorry, I didn't know I had to link it for you. i thought this was enough for you-

I never thought of how magnets swallowed could be harmful until lately

because I just read this article a few days ago- the article opened my eyes to the internal damage, not you.

Watto's Junk Yard / Hasbro toys under threat next??

Hasbro toys under threat next?

Just starting a thread to discuss the current toys scares/recalls. They seem to be centered around magnets. I wonder if Hasbro will do a voluntary recall of all their magnetic, light saber holding figures now?

I never thought of how magnets swallowed could be harmful until lately. I guess having older kids now has made me a slacker when it comes to keeping up with small childern safety issues.

EDIT: I didn't realize there was already a thread for this, I guess I could have scrolled down to find out :-\
I also apparently needed to repair my dyslexic misspelling error on the word 'magnets'.

Yeah, I was reading backlog news on the 21stcenturytoys website one day and found an article about them bringing bombers to us soon in 32x and 18x scale. The bomber they mentioned was the Mitchell, though. I really don't see it too hard for them to do it..being a smaller bomber only 2 engines and all. I mean if they can do a P38 then what's to stop them doing a B25 or P61(which I'd like!)? A twin mstnag would be cool also, though not very popular so I doubt it. They 21st seem to do alot of the same planes over and over with new paint jobs rather than new sculpts/models. I mean heck, in 32X I'm still waiting for Hellcats, Spitfires, torpedo bombers of various types, several more types of Japanese fighters, russian Yak fighters ect.

Seriously, where's are Yak fighters from Russia? English planes? ****, if they can do Italian, German, American, and Japanese planes where's the other WW2 participants'?

I picked up a really cool camoflauged ME262 32X at TRU 2weeks ago. I didn't realize TRU was selling 21st stuff again. It's displayed on my den wall with their other 3 32 scale WW2 German fighters.

...still waiting for the anticipated bombers to be released in stores
So far their site only mentioned the B25 Mitchell but I ecxpect other twin engine models as well like German and Japanese types.

Who the heck was playing?  I didn't recognize anyone outside of a few rooks.  First few weeks of preseason are annoying.

The Saints..on their backs for much of the game....dare I say it...their veterans played like the *gasp* 'AINTS' of old.

I guess what I'm looking forward to now is for Hasbro to do Vong figures. They'd have to do them right though..I don't see EU characters, figures being redone as frequently as regular line, movie based characters. There's already plenty Vong characters in the WOTC miniatures line for an example base, that and plenty material, data from EU books.

8 homers by the Yankees yesterday.

Though I hate them, that IS impressive teamwork.
I wonder as to what was going through the opponents minds at that point...

I got my 6 this A.M....(plus a couple for fellow collectors here in town).

Of course now I'm not as excited to hear about them since they are flimsy...

I met up with Darth Gamboa last night; he showed me his scout...the torso and left leg still seemed really loose but I'd overall say it wasn't as 'loose' as my figure. His also seemed to stay on his bike better than mine.
His bike still sucked just as bad as mine did; the grey plastic parts are still really bendeable when compared with an original bike. I still feel HASBRO is using a cheaper, softer plastic version than what was used on the original bikes.

I'm not so much into 'Hasbro dreamed' items either. I'm also not into Hasbro making an item calling it something when it really doesn't even represent that EU character(see Storm commando).

Since I've been really into SW graphic Novels and comic books the last couple years, I've really been ready for this EU push. I'm mostly welcoming it with the exception above of course.

It pays to wait I guess.

That's interesting as I got in line late Friday about 5 PM and I needed my ticket to do it.....

It pays to wait?.... I have to disagree in this/my experience at the Con at least. I value my time. I really wanted to get the exclusives preview night but of course could not get a 'ticket' or in line-I wanted this so I could enjoy the Con more. On my 3rd day at a Con I want to be walking around freely enjoying seminars, seeing cool costumes, taking photos, playing games not 'paying to wait' by waiting in a line or lurking around a booth. I certainly hope my exclusive toy finds are out of the way by the last day of my attendance, so I can relax, not worry and have fun.
