According to someone at RS (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2168224&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1), there is a Target xclusive Felucia BP coming out in early '07. Now you may say, "this is just some loser making up rumors", but they haven't been wrong about a Target product yet.
I for one, am excited!
-
If it is true I hope the slug creature comes with it.
-
yeah that slug creature would be awsome but i doubt will be getting it :P
-
I'm sure it'd be Bly, 2 Evolutions 327th Star Corps clones, Aayla, and some kind of mushroom/flower/slug pack-in.
I'd go for one or two of those.
-

If not the Mushroom/flower/slug thing, than a third 327th.
-
I hope it comes with some Gossam Commados.
-
I hope so too, but it's not bloody likely. :'( I feel sure it'll be what Dressel hypothesized.
If so, I already have Bly, a Star Corps trooper, AOTC Aayla and ROTS Aayla, not to mention the mini-Unleashed Battle Pack. So the only reason I might want this would be for the pack-in.
-
I'm less optimistic - I don't think we'll get a new slug creature - all rehashes.
-
I agree with you ruiner... I think that this is going to be one of those general battle packs like the Jedi vs Sidious one – with no bonus item being included.
-
Repacks of RotS Aayla and Bly along with 3 Evo clones would be easy for Hasbro and sell well, so that's probably the best choice here. However, I would prefer:
NEW Barriss Offee
NEW Gelagrub
NEW Gossam Commando
NEW plant of some sort
Evo clone
Of course, knowing Hasbro, we may very well get:
RotS Bly x1
RotS Aayla x1
Cantina Han x3
-
I agree with you ruiner... I think that this is going to be one of those general battle packs like the Jedi vs Sidious one – with no bonus item being included.
+2 I agree with you two... it'll all be repacks... and it'll be a disappointment.
-
I don't think this Battle Pack is going to be ALL repacks. Hasbro has stated in the Q&A's that the exclusive Battle Packs get at least some new figure sculpts. It's the mass retail Battle Packs that tend to be all repacks.
If this is in fact a Target exclusive, then I think we're in store for at least something new in this set. I'm hopeful for the Felucia Ground Beetle or Gelagrub. As always, it's a wait and see kind of situation.
-
True, a redecoed "blaster damage" Aayla would be nice if they chose not to go the pack-in accessory route.
-

That actualy would be nice but i doubt hasbro will do that :P
-
Look at the rest of the BPs for 2007. With the exception of the purple Windu clones (exception based on scuplt not color) the BPs of the new year all display Hasbro's new policy, the 3 Rs.
-
I hope it comes with some Gossam Commados.
If so it'd be a re-hash. ::) I do want one though.
What I want:
x 1 Aayla Secura (ROTS re-hash w/ New Arms)
x 1 Clone Commander Bly
x 3 Bly Troops
What we'll get:
x 2 TSC Bib Fortuna (To remember the cool EU scene that we just made up!)
x 1 500th Darth Vader (To comemorate Anakin's turm to the dark side!)
x 1 Aayla Secura (Saga 1 re-pack)
x 1 Commtech Luke Skywalker (To comemorate the 30th Aniversary!)

Timeout ... the "Cantina Han Solo" gag jumped the shark months ago.
It's done.
Dead.
Let it go for pity's sake.
That is all.
-
If this pans out, based on what Hasbro said in the Q&A about "Collector Oriented" Battle Packs, I'd guess it will resemble either the Skirmish Pack (4 figs and a small accessory) or the HFG or Mace packs (which have a leader, a new clone, and 3x grunts) like other folks have already mentioned in here.
-
Timeout ... the "Cantina Han Solo" gag jumped the shark months ago.
Too bad he didn't get eaten by the damned shark!!! That way we'd never have to see the thing again. ;)

I just put TSC Bib instead. You happy now? :P

gossam commando (noun) (GOS-um ku-MAN-DO) shu mai dancing around in armor shooting at clones...LAME! that's the gayest concept EVER conceived in the comics if you ask me, besides the yuzhan vong
-
What's exactly so "gay" about it?
-
SERIOUSLY, you cant have shu mai's species in that kind of situation...the Star Wars universe as I see it just doesn't work like that...maybe i just don't like gossams... :P ...although i have no problem with anyone who does. my opinion...
-
Well you wouldn't have to buy it. :P ;)
-
Over at RS, this battle pack has been comfirmed and will have at least one commander Bly and Star Corps trooper. Sweet!
-

Yah... It sounds to me like it will in fact be the suspected Aayla/Bly/3x Star Corps.
-
That's how it should be, anything else would be total suckage.
-
I wouldn't mind:
1x Bly
1x Aayla
2x Star Corps
1x Ground beetle.
-
More Star Corps troopers are good. It'll help me round out my squad.
-
I wouldn't mind:
1x Bly
1x Aayla
2x Star Corps
1x Ground beetle.
There's no way there can be 4 figures & a beetle. Unless the beetle is under-scaled.
-
It would be nice if it was Aayla, Barris, Bly and 2 Starcorps. But most likely it'll be Aayla Bly and 3 Starcorps. :-\

I think this could be a possible lineup. After all, this is set to be a Target exclusive Battle Pack, right? And Hasbro has stated that the exclusive Battle Packs tend to get new offerings instead of the wide release Battle Packs. Plus, if you look at past offerings, we've seen decent pack-ins with the Target Battle Packs. Senate Pod anyone?
-
It was under-scaled, I guess it could be a baby. :P
-
I'm still hopeing for at least one Gossam Commando.
-
what I'd love:
1x Bariss Offee (New, SA)
1x Aayla Secura (ROTS w/new arms)
1x Commander Bly (New, SA)
2x 327th Star Corps (Evolutions)
1x ground beetle
what I'll get instead
1x Bariss Offee (Saga 2003)
1x Aayla Secura (Saga 2003)
1x Commander Bly (innacurate ROTS)
1x 327th Star Corps (evolutions)
and a can-cell
-
I'm still hopeing for at least one Gossam Commando.
It should be in the comic 2-packs, otherwise it'll be a re-paint. ::)
-
They aren't in any comics, so it can't be in the comic 2-packs. :P
-
The thing that kind of irritates me about this whole "Gossam Commando" movement (and I'm not referring to anyone in particular) has to do with the idea of the Commerce Guild/Trade Federation/Corporate Alliance/Techno Union/etc in the story of the films themselves.
It's well established that the reason the TF uses Battle Droids to begin with is because they're cowards and wanted troops that would listen to every command they gave without question. In other words, a total automaton military force. The makeup of the Separatist armies which combined all these forces in AOTC/CW cartoon/ROTS was, as well, a complete automaton army, although at that point there was a bit more in the way of self-motivated droid intelligence (Grievous' MagnaGuards, Super Battle Droids to an extent, etc). The impression given is that the companies that make up the Separatists/CIS are selfish and more concerned with their own species safety, so droids are an easily-produced and easily-expendable surrogate that keeps the species behind the military commands safe from harm (theoretically, since they all get killed by Vader anyway).
That's why the Gossam Commandos bother me, conceptually. To have a bunch of Shu Mais running around with oversized cannons, putting their own lives on the line and contradicting their entire profit-driven motivation, is really at odds with what has been established in the films as their raison d'etre. Plus the Gossam Commandos look silly to me. :P
After all, this is set to be a Target exclusive Battle Pack, right? And Hasbro has stated that the exclusive Battle Packs tend to get new offerings instead of the wide release Battle Packs.
I'm thinking along these same lines, Nick. Hasbro made a point of saying that the mass-release BPs will be almost completely repacks with slight retooling, while a bit more would be put into the exclusive BPs (concept-wise, anyway) since they would not need to appeal to such a wide audience. A Gelagrub could work if done in a "pack-in" way, or hey, there's no real rule that says they have to fit in the traditional BP box (maybe they could do a "Screen Scene" style box like the Geonosian War Room/Jedi Council sets from 2003). Still, it would be possible to fit a scale-fudged Gelagrub in a slightly wider BP box, but it wouldn't be displayed in an "awesome" way.
If they did go that route, here's what I'd expect:
1 x Aayla Secura (slight repaint of ROTS figure)
1 x Commander Bly (hopefully correctly painted ROTS figure)
1 x Felucia Clone Trooper (repack of Evolutions Felucia Clone)
1 x Felucia Clone Trooper (repaint of AT-TE Gunner, specifically for the legs, so he can ride the Gelagrub)
1 x Felucia Gelagrub with saddle
If they wanted to be really nice, they could just put the Tank Gunner legs and a soft goods kama on the Evolution Felucia Clone, but I doubt they'd go that far with this set.
-
What were they in? I know they weren't in the movies.

Bound to be crap.
-
Bound to be crap.
Not necessarily... the exclusive Battle Packs is where Hasbro promised us new stuff after all.
Now, whether the new stuff in this BP turns out to be cool (like a Senate Pod or #41 Shocktroopers) or underrated (like made up the EU Mace Clones), well that still remains to be seen.
Either way, Hasbro has already confirmed that this pack is going to have re-issues of the Evolutions Felucia Clones and that is worth it to me already... ;)
-
Well I hope you are right and I'm wrong. I did note your comments regarding the differences between wide releases and exclusives for the battle packs, but I was just on a roll :P

Hmm..yes that is correct Jeff they did promise us that but, looking at THFG battle pack from TRU(exclusive) I don't consider anything very new in that pack. A repaint yes, but nothing new figure-wise. Unless, of course, you look at the new gatling laser gun-pretty lame for something-new IMO. Don't get me wrong though a little small I liked that gun, but when I'm told 'something new' I'm looking for something bigger like an accessory or figure. Perhaps Hasbro should have stated post Comic Con 'all battlepacks exclusive to retailers from this point forward will have something new in them.'
With that said I don't trust them that all these new BP's will have something new..time will tell though. <and I don't consider a repaint or kitbash as a new anything either>
The DS
-
<and I don't consider a repaint or kitbash as a new anything either>
Well, unfortunately for you, Hasbro does consider Clone repaints and kit-bash figures as "new" when it comes to these exclusive Battle Packs. In fact, when you look at the all of the 2006 exclusive Battle Packs (not just THFG BP), you'll see that the majority of the "new" items in them are just repaints/kitbashes.
- Target Skirmish in the Senate: Senate Pod (new item)
- Target Skirmish in the Senate Shocktrooper (#41 repaint)
- TRU Hunt for General Grievous: Fordo (Kit-Bash)
- TRU Hunt for General Grievous: Clone Heavy Gunner (Kit-Bash & Repaint)
- Target Mace Windu's Attack Battalion: Clone Trooper (#41 Repaint)
- Target Mace Windu's Attack Battalion: Clone Commander (2007 Airborne Clone Repaint)
-
Which are considered new if you look at the "mainstream" sets - Dagobah, Sarlaac, Senate Office, etc.
Those sets are strictly reissues with no changes.
-
The office one includes the jedi robes though... and if you look at the Vader from the Dagobah set... he might have some extra mud deco applied to the legs & cape.
-
I'll give you that.
But those are two sets that the collectors aren't clamoring for.
More often than not, Hasbro will make a figure unqiue (or brand new) enough to drive collector interest - in regards to the retailer exclusive BP's.
-
<and I don't consider a repaint or kitbash as a new anything either>
Well, unfortunately for you
Somehow, I don't see this as just unfortunate for me only. I'm not alone on this :P.
-
The problem is that people (including Hasbro) cannot tell the difference between new and improved.
If something is new, like Snow Padme, then it never existed before or this particular sculpt of that figure never existed.
If you repaint or glue legs from one guy to another then it is improved (well whether that improves the figure is questionable) but never new.
Hasbro dicks us around with their "new" labels which only mean improved. Hasbro cannot get me to buy a battle pack for just one new figure, mostly b/c I know they will eventually repaint/rehash/repack it and I will be able to get it without buying the rest of the crap. Still I buy improved/repainted ships b/c I am a vehicle nut.
-
These battle packs with troopers are a good deal though, even if you end up with 1 joke-in-the-box, 3 or 4 troops for 20.00 or less is a modern bargain.
-
the chameleon droids in the illum bp make ground beetles seem a lot more possible 8). i would hope that hasbro modifies that star corps troops' hip joints so they can actually sit ion the beetles like in the movie. :P
-
The Felucia pack is definitely high on my list just due to the possibilities... Plus I can use another Aylya for customizing I figure, but the troopers inside I definitely want more of... Hopefully we get some pics soon of this one.
And yes, I'm a big hopeful for a slug mount packed in... somehow. Or foliage, but I'm not counting on either really. The slug would be fantastic though if it came with a Felucia Clone with a softgoods kama to ride him somehow. One can dream right? :)
-
I think the slug would be cool. However, I'd expect it would have to be underscaled and many people wouldn't be very happy about that. I for one am not a slave to "proper" scale but I know this is a sticking point for many people.
-
Myself included, but the slug's actually really small... the image of it in the Vis. Dictionary at least is pretty small. Like kind of speederbike sized I think. :-\
-
I think it's certainly reasonable to include a Gelagrub in a Felucia Battle Pack if Hasbro can fudge the width of the box a bit. The SITS box was slightly deeper than the mass retail BPs, so since this wouldn't be an item that would ship alongside anything other than itself, I can't see why a slightly larger box to accommodate the girth of the Gelagrub wouldn't be possible.
The only problem would be getting Hasbro to concentrate more on the actual toy than the presentation of said toy. I'd much rather have Bly, two Evolutions Felucia Clones, and a Gelagrub with rider, but to do that, Hasbro wouldn't be able to do their flattened movie scene approach with the presentation.
As I said earlier in the thread, Hasbro could do a kitbashed rider for the Gelagrub by using an AT-TE Tank Gunner body (due to the ball-jointed hips) with a soft goods kama. That said, they probably won't think of that themselves.
Regardless, I can't think of anything, action figure wise, outside of Bly, multiple Evolutions Felucia Clones, and/or Secura that would be included in this set and not end up sucking horribly.
-
For me personaly, the ideal combo is the 3 troops, commander, jedi pack, so that means we'll probably have one of the troops substituted for an accessory or beast. ::)
-
I'm still hopeing for at least one Gossam Commando.
-
The gossam would rock but there's probally no way in hell we'll be getting one.
What I'd want:
x 2 Felucia Troopers (Re-packs w/ New SG Carma)
x 1 Clone Commander Bly (Re-paint w/ SG carma)
x 1 Felucia Trooper (AT-TE Gunner re-paint w/ SG carma)
x 1 Gelarub (New)
Which would add up to 3 new figures, 2 new-ish! :D
I'll doubt we'll get that besides the re-pack Troopers.
-
They'll probably go cheap and just give us that bird that distracts Aayla.
-
They'll probably go cheap and just give us that bird that distracts Aayla.
and the bird will probably be the one from the POTF2 Dagobah planet set thingy. (if you know which set im talking about)
-
Hasbro giving us the bird? Never, they would never give collectors THE BIRD!
-
Pics are up for this set. Hint: search somewhere in central europe!
Here's the lineup:
1 x Aayla Secura (ROTS # III/32 Aayla Secura - Jedi Knight)
1 x Clone Commander Bly (ROTS # III/57 Commander Bly - Battle Gear!)
3 x Clone Troopers (from the Clone Trooper - Sandtrooper Evolutions 3-Pack)
-
Looks like this one's a winner! :)

Nope, not based on the 4 inches site pic anyhow.
Where you are correct:
1 x Aayla like you said
1 x Bly like you said
And here's what we're getting where you thought it was 3 x Evolutions Felucia grunts:
2 x Bly repainted as grunts (grunt on the far right, and grunt on the far left)
1 x Evolutions 327th Star Corps with removable helmet
In other words, on 2 of the 3 grunts, I can see the white ball joint neck post, and not the removable helmet like in the evolutions version. Those are Bly (Clone #33) repaints.
-
Why would there be 2 BPs w/ an Aayla out at the same time? ???
-
Why would there be 2 BPs w/ an Aayla out at the same time? ???
You really shouldn't have to ask that question when you're dealing with Hasbro, now should you? ;)

About what I expected and I couldn't be happier.

You may be right. However we've been lead to believe one thing with Battle Packs and given another before. Most notably with the Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack. So once again, the final product (or Hasbro in the Q&A) will tell us what the real deal is.
It would be very strange for them to change their tooling and paint apps for a figure that's been previously released. Especially when Hasbro seems to be all about cost cutting wherever possible.
But I guess this lineup leads us to the conclusion that this is going to be a mass retail Battle Pack and not an exclusive. I had been hopeful that perhaps we would get a 327th Star Corps Clone with a SG kama, ball jointed hips and a Felucia ground beetle. Oh well. ::)
-
Just a follow-up on what I said earlier. This from 'scum:
"4-inches.de is back again with the first images of the Betrayal on Felucia battle pack, which will include Aayla Secura, Commander Bly, and 3 Star Corps Troopers (2 repainted Clone Commanders and 1 from the Evolutions set.) Click on the thumbnail above for both front and back images."
-
That is Rebelscum's observation based on the photograph. Haven't we learned just in the past several weeks that the Battle Pack photos that we've seen were mockups and not production pieces? People on this forum were incredulous because of the photos of the Tantive IV battle pack, saying that they won't be buying that battle pack because of the paint apps on the Stormtrooper. Fastforward to Hasbro being asked about it in the Q&A and they say that those were mockup photos and that the production item will feature clean Stormtroopers.
I think that if we really want to know what the packout for this Battle Pack is going to be, then that question should be asked in the Q&A sessions. Just because Rebelscum says something doesn't make it so.
-

Exactly. However, it doesn't matter to me if some of those are Bly re-paints or not.
-
i really like this bp. i will buy multiples
-
I'm not tore up myself if it's repaints of Bly either... The removable helmet feature on Clones just somehow doesn't mean a TON to me, though it's neat when you get it sometimes. That said, the helmet didn't sit well on that particular Clone anyway so if we DON'T get them I'm ok... The Evo sculpt just wasn't too easy to track down though so getting it would probably be better in a way... I just don't care though, I think the set's a real army building dream. I can find a use for Secura figures in customizing too, so this is a plus.
-
That whole chin hanging from the helmet can get old.
-
That whole chin hanging from the helmet can get old.
Usually, turning the head around (in the helmet) will take care of that.
-
So if I have every clone alread released, do I need this set?
In other words, does this set contain a new clone that I don't already have (from previous Evolution sets, single figure releases, etc.)?
-
does this set contain a new clone that I don't already have (from previous Evolution sets, single figure releases, etc.)?
The jury still seems to be out on whether all those Felucia Clones are straight Evolutions repacks or if some of them are #33 Clones painted like Bly's grunts or some other form of kitbash. :-\
Sure looks like there are at least some pauldron differences going on in there, but the picture quality isn't good enough to tell and when you add in Hasbro's recent track record with early battle pack pics having errors in them, who knows? ???
-
Yeah the Pauldrons may have some variations... Otherwise I'm assuming the most you'd see are paint differences.
What gets me is it looks like the guys on the back of the box are all evo Clones... They have the ammo packs on the bicep anyway I think. I honestly hope that's the case, the Evo did have waist articulation afterall which is a plus. I'll deal with the chins.
I've found I can hide the chin just by tilting the head up so I really think I'd rather the Evo sculpt at this point... Either way I'm not upset, except if we don't get the final version of Bly... I never did see that variation.
-

i did! for $59.99 @ the scalper's place!
-
What a terrific and wonderful waste of money :o
-
I'm dissapointed in this set..I wanted a creature or something new out of it.
This is an exclusive??! Then where is the NEW item Hasbro promised us for exclusive BP's? Oh, are they considering repaints as new items now? In that case I guess ALL the BP's offer something new then :P.

-
I guess this set has been found in Sacramento.
-
Saw the same report over at RS. The hunt is on!
-
Jeez, I think I can skip this set. From the looks of it, I already have these figures.
Makes for a nice boxed set though...if you're into that sort of thing.
-
Here's the image from RS's forums:

That's a pretty sweet looking set.
-
i kinda need one to open and one to stay boxed, sweeet set!

I ran the DCPI for this battle packl that I posted in the DCPI thread. The number's valid even though the store I went to didn't have any in stock.
I'd definitely like to see some loose pics of this set, considering the confusion about the troopers. It's definitely odd that they would retool the Clone Commander for the generic Clones, but then I guess the Evolutions Clone is expensive to manufacture.
-
I picked this up today at Target(oops yesterday ::)).
The packaging has lotsa pretty colors...other than that, it's ::) for a carded completist collector.

I've been checking the DPCI numbers for this and the Ilum set at my local Target ever since they first surfaced back in October... :-[
They obviously haven't had any sets, but it hasn't kept me from punching in the numbers, you know - just in case. :P
-
gotta get this one
i'll have a bly commander to trade then, but i don't care

Yeah there's definitely no question about it - the 2 grunts on the far right and far left are repaints of Bly because the white neckpost is ever-apparent underneath the rebreather. The grunt next to Aayla is the Evolutions clone, however. The 2 grunts that are Bly repaints are kinda nifty because Hasbro reverse the pauldrons and ammo clip hanging off the pauldrons, because the 327th in the movie seemed to have some grunts with the pauldron on the left, and some on the right. I dig this set.

Sweet! I like this pack.
-
Just found the set today at target, with the help of the dcpi # of course. ;)
-
This is one of those sets that is much better in person. I got to open one up last night and I appreciate the subtle differences in clones this set.
-
Anyone on the East Coast got this one yet?
-
Just got this while I was at lunch. I think this is the best BP that Hasbro has released yet, hands down. I really like that they kept the metallic paint aps on the blasters/rifles for this set. It's a nice touch.
-
Anyone on the East Coast got this one yet?
I'm in North Carolina, and I haven't found this. One Target close to my house did not have any as of Friday night, and I'm going to check another Target this afternoon. I'll let you know if that run is successful.
-
DCPI works again. I got this one last night. Great set at a very reasonable price.
-
I picked mine up last evening, and love it. These sets are a great value. I can't figure Target/Hasbro exclusives out- $20 for 5 figures, and $13 for 2, sometimes $13 for 1? :P
-
Scored it this morning. I had to use the DCPI to get it today. Can't figure why it wouldn't be on the shelves first thing in the morning, but I got it nonetheless.

It has a street date, 2/4, so that's why it wasn't on the floor.
-
so are they all EVO clones or not :S

Just 1 figure is the evolution clone.

Street date equals BS-- All that is is that they have to be set by then, if they wanna do it earlier they can. Just got word that one of my local Target just set an End Cap up with these(the Ilum AND Felucia packs).
The store likely won't 'set' it just because someone asked though-they'll do it when they want. If they set past the street date then they're late and could potentially get in trouble. I don't like dealing with the stores' BS lies about street dates so I use the DCPI in various parts of the store until I get what I want. When I got these BP's last weekend, I used the DCPI with the dressing room clerk..who called the appropriate people who then got me what I wanted. I had this street date BS explained to me in full when I called corporate one day. What they tell you is the opposite of what the store tells you. Many a time our local store has nothing to stock by 'street date' because it has been DCPI'd to death(guilty).
If you say nothing(don't ask with DCPI#), you're gauranteed nothing. However if you ask then there's a chance. I like to take it a step further and continue asking DCPI's in different parts of the store until I get what I want-most visits my persistence pays off. DCPIing the late night shift (after 7) seems to work well too, 'cause then NAZI toy managers aren't around usually to stop you with their blitzkreig attacks/tactics(see lies).
Another trick I use occasionally (has worked every time when stores had quantities) was to use DCPI at customer service, if they have none at store ask them to check local stores, if another store has it they've always called that store and asked them to hold it behind the counter at that store until I came to get it ;D.

I saw about 15 or so of these still sitting on the shelf this morning.
-
I picked mine up last evening, and love it. These sets are a great value. I can't figure Target/Hasbro exclusives out- $20 for 5 figures, and $13 for 2, sometimes $13 for 1? :P
Seriously. I keep saying that it seems like the prices are arbitrary and this give fodder for the thought.
-
Just picked up a 4th set. $19.99 is a pretty good price for these clones who are easy to track down. Damn I wish the treachery on saleucami battlepack was a target exclusive!
-
I saw it last night and passed on it. Nothing really new enough in it for me to get it.
-
i havent gotten a chance to get to target, but damn i want this set asap!
-
Target exclusive >:(
possible Ebay time :P

Yet another wonderful conversation with my local Target customer service department:
TARGET DRONE: Thank you for calling Target, can I help you find something?
ME: Yes ma'am, I was wondering if you could check and see if you had a particular item in stock?
TARGET DRONE: Yes sir, what is it you're looking for?
ME: I have the DCPI numbers for both items...
TARGET DRONE: That won't help me. What is the item?
ME: (knowing this wouldn't end well) It is a Star Wars action figure 5-pack exclusive to Target stores.
TARGET DRONE: (short pause) We won't look for those. Goodbye.
DRONE HANGS UP
Collecting should not require clandestine operations using "top secret" stock numbers to circumvent stores who aren't even interested in keeping someone's business, much less providing products they're supposed to be selling in the first place. Oh, and for a much more crass statement, **** TARGET.
In all seriousness, why does Target continue to get one exclusive after another when they treat people who, you know, want to give them money for products like ****?
-
That sucks, the only reason why i got the ilum set last night is becuase i called with the number and the lady was really nice and checked the computer. She told me they were int he back and to come in. They would get one out for me once i got there. Sorry man.
-
DocP, is that the same Target that gave you crap about the Windu BP? It's almost like you quoted the conversation you had with Target over that set. If so, you have some pretty ****** Targets in your area. I've never called a Target CS before, but I've always had success finding an employee to go to the back (even though it takes like 15 minutes).
-
I gotta say that I have never once in my life had to use a DCPI number to buy an item at Target, exclusive or otherwise. Never did it. Give it a week or two with pop-ins to the store every 2 days, you'll get it. I have always been able to find and purchase no less than 10 of any item, including recent exclusives like the shuttle (found 15 over 3 weeks) and Mace BP (found 20 over 2 weeks).
Everyone just take a breath.
-
God, Target sucks. That's why IMHO super WMs are better atleast in my area. I got about 97% of my figures last year there. I must get the only good WM in America.
-
I've had my run-ins with Target employees in the past... And I can safely say not all areas have Targets that are as well stocked as yours Dressel, trust me... Around Pitt, and maybe because they are somewhat spread out (that's changing in the coming years though), they tend to come and go depending on what the item(s) are... The Mace packs went pretty fast at most of them actually so that was one I was glad I didn't snooze on, and the Fisto Fighter went immediately after its first clearance, so you really had to kind of act on that or chance missing it.
The DPCI trick is hit and miss for me, but usually I just try someone in the back, and when that fails go to customer service and ask with some story... sometimes it has a tinge of truth to it, sometimes not, but all I want to do is spend my money in their store, so I don't see why I should HAVE to lie, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to avoid another trip out of your way there... Considering all Target stores are 40-ish minutes away at best, I don't like trips there, haha.
I do like their store better than WM though... Just the fact they're always cleaner and tidier makes me want to shop there more.
I've yet to get out to get my 2 BP's but hope to soon... I don't like waiting on this stuff. I've networked for a couple chameleon droids from a friend too so that's cool... Just hope to get 2 Felucia packs and call it quits on those ones then.
I've gotten the BS from stockboys at Target though... At minimum wage I tend not to expect a whole lot more than I get... I always am appreciative when I get help though and try to let their hotline know that so-and-so helped me out too... I dunno if it pays off for the employee but I like to hope it does. It did places that I worked anyway.
-
DocP, is that the same Target that gave you crap about the Windu BP? It's almost like you quoted the conversation you had with Target over that set.
Yeah, it's the same one, although this time was slightly more hostile (the first time around, they at least took the DCPI number; it's like this time once they heard those words out of a customer's mouth, they knew what was going to be asked). This is, however, the second time in a row that they've been downright rude and obnoxious once the words "Star Wars" are mentioned, so I just don't even know if it's worth asking them anything at this point.
The strange thing is that the town in which I used to live a few years ago was probably the friendliest retailer I've ever been in. Even when it was something with a street date (such as the Saleucami Clone), they told me they had them and exactly when they would be putting them out. I'd say only once out of 20 times at that particular Target did I have an employee act hostile toward me, and the other 19 or so ended up with someone at the very least looking in the back.
My how times have changed, at least for me. :-\

Yeah, having had various friends over the years who have worked in retail/food service and hearing the stories of how poorly they are treated and/or paid has really sensitized me to how being polite and nice goes a long way. Unfortunately, I think that in a lot of cases, people in those jobs are so embittered over the segments of the population who are rude to them that politeness doesn't even register on their radar and possibly even comes across as condescension to them. Who knows?
Interesting side story I heard the other day: I work with a woman in her early 50's who also collects action figures, and she was talking about how the local TRU had flip-flopped on her within the space of a second a few weeks back. She was apparently looking at the SW figures and she said an employee came up and said, "Can I help you find anything, ma'am?" She said she told them that they didn't have it, and the employee said, "Well, maybe I could help you look. Do you know anything specific about what it is that you're looking for?" When she said, "I'm looking for Star Wars action figures that come in a case numbered Wave 8, particularly the three varieties of Clone Troopers", the employee's attitude switched from helpful to the default "run-away-and-hide-from-the-collector" attitude and stated, "Everything we have is on the shelves."
Anyone who thinks that retailers don't look down on adults buying toys is fooling themselves.
-
You know Doc, just because they say they can't look up the DCPI doesn't mean it's true. I'd verify through corporate that they are supposed to, and then when the person on the phone gives you a hard time, you can take it further and make them do their job.
-
You know Doc, just because they say they can't look up the DCPI doesn't mean it's true.
Oh, I know for a fact that the woman was lying about the DCPI "not help(ing)" her. When I called about the Mace Windu BP a few months back, they had no problem with the DCPI I gave them until they realized what it was. I think that Target employees are on to the idea that collectors know their "secret code number" and the ones at my local store, at the very least, know when a customer mentions "DCPI", they're probably out to do something horrible like, you know, try to buy a product the store is supposed to be selling but won't. ::)
I would imagine it's only a matter of time before Target puts a fence up around the toy section and denies its existence completely. :P
Oh, and for the sake of my earlier mention of it, here's the text of the post concerning a November 6, 2006 conversation with the same Target (different employee, though) about the Mace BP:
TARGET PERSON: Thank you for calling Target, can I help you find anything?
ME: Yes, I was wondering if you could tell me the stock status of a particular item using the DPCI number?
TARGET PERSON: Yes sir, what is the number?
ME: (repeats the number of the Mace BP)
TARGET PERSON: Hold please.
(30 seconds or so pass)
TARGET PERSON: Sir, where did you get this DPCI number?
ME (lying slightly): I have a friend in Minnesota who works for Target corporate.
TARGET PERSON (lying blatantly): We have no record of this item. Goodbye.
*Target Person hangs up on me*
-
I have come to the conclusion that some people just hate their jobs. I actually asked some individuals if that was the case on a few occasions when these people were being really rude and condescending for no apparent reason.
-
Found an endcap at Target full of battle packs today, there were a ton of Ilums which was a solid brick (none sold) and about a dozen Felucias left (highly picked over but still plentiful) . The 3 other Targets that I frequent have not put them out to date. I really like this set, and love the value at 19.99. I dig how half the pauldrons are turned the other way like in the flick. The back of the box shows that it's all evolutions clones even though only one of the figures is, obviously.
-
Yeah I'm ok with the Evo figure and 2 Bly repaints to get the reverse pauldron since that's the way they were in the film. That works for me despite wanting more Evo Clones since they weren't OVERLY common, for my area at least.
-
I'm still debating on whether or not to get this pack...$4 a figure is pretty appealing. But I know that if I don't use the DCPI trick I'm never going to see these. The only problem is that I've had a hard time using it. The only time it worked was for the Mace pack, and I went to Customer Service.
-
But I know that if I don't use the DCPI trick I'm never going to see these.
Has that been the case with all of the other Target Exlusive BP's for you?
-
The only time I've ever found a Target Exclusive BP is when I used the DCPI.
I'm going today for some other things, and I'll swing by Target. If they have these on the shelf (it's only a day before the reset date), I'll pick one up. I'm still not sure if I want to go through the whole DCPI thing.
EDIT- I was pleasantly suprised. As soon as I got in the store I plugged in the DCPI and it said it wasn't in the stockroom. A little bummed, I went to the toys just to check they weren't on the shelf. I was even more discouraged when I found two in the main shelf where the 327th grunts had been switched out for Clone Commanders and ROTS #6 clones. Finally, I checked the rear endcaps, and lo and behold, there were 5 BOF packs and like ten Ambush on Ilum packs. Picked one up, and I was not let down. Easily the best battle pack to date.
-
But I know that if I don't use the DCPI trick I'm never going to see these.
Has that been the case with all of the other Target Exlusive BP's for you?
I can't speak for DN but I can speak for the area some... We seem to get substantially less than you guys out west do, Anton. I don't know why... Now these sound as though they're abundant enough, and I still need to get out to get mine, but I know the Mace packs were scarce on the shelves. YOu either DPCI'd it or you ran a big risk of missing it. I never saw that on shelves.
To go back further, the Target clones weren't overly common the shelves, yet the Coruscant pack was... We had tons of B-Wings but the Y-Wing was non-existant and never saw a clearance here (first years we had target). The accessory pack sets were around I recall, as were Obi/Ani Lava and Grievous. Certain stuff seems to come and go, other stuff not so much.
I know I was happy I got my couple Mace packs when I got them though because I never saw it again. Disappointed too because I'd have stocked up on them if I could have.
-

Personally I've noticed here in upstate NY that stuff shows up anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks after people in California pick it up. There's a wealth of Walmarts and Targets where I live, and I've never seen any less than 30 of any given figure or battle pack that I wanted to buy, including exclusives. And I've never used a DCPI number either, that's just what I've seen from what was naturally stocked by employees. Always see 30 of everything in total, and pretty commonly up to 100 of any given figure or item. I've lived all over NY state, downstate, slightly upstate, very upstate, central NY, and this has always been the case since the inception of the line in 1995.
I do read on the forums that people never see an item on the shelf, and I wonder if it's due to employees shipping stuff out "the back door", a low number of Targets and Walmarts in that area, stores that just don't get figures (unlikely), or just infrequent toy runs or at the wrong time. Possibly local scalpers who know exactly when to hit your store or pay someone to hold stuff for them? (I know Kevin confirmed the rogue employee problem at his Walmart). Maybe a combination?
-
Pittsburgh has a pretty tight connection around town... I wouldn't say stores are uncommon, just uncommon out in my area. But going by what our local boards say... Our stores sometimes just don't get as much. Our scalper-issues are really fairly small. You run into them, you know them to see them (usually know them from the Toy Show or "events" like Midnight Madness where you get to know them on some level), but they're really not a huge issue here like the LA area (ask Matt about that one sometime).
I don't think we have much of an employee backdoor problem... The one Target seems to have a LITTLE of that (I only know that since it was said right in front of me by an employee who I was trying to get me something from the back room), but I'd say on the whole it's not a common issue... If it is, it's a problem at every Target because when one doesn't have much to put out none have much to put out it seems. Like I said though, sometimes exclusives are very abundant, but sometimes they're not and it seems simply a low number of product is all... Nothing more. Mace's battlepack seemed to be that way, or it sold oddly well via the DPCI around here.
Now, WM distributes 100% different... Any given store can get any given number of items in be they exclusive or not. There's no pattern. Right now my area's getting lots of the WM 5 in it seems but not all of them got H&V/Epic Battles stuff for instance while other ones are pounded with them. In general though I'd say we are lucky around here (from my observations at from 8 to 10 WM's I can visit) to have been spared the repack deluge you other guys got. WE have very few of those, and the clones are long gone for us while some of you say they're peg warming. Army builders in general are tough finds around here unless repacks from a case get out.
-
Do we have any idea what rank the reverse pauldron guys are?
-
If there's any still around I'll try to pick up a second set...this really is a great battlepack.
-
Do we have any idea what rank the reverse pauldron guys are?
If I was taking a page (or scene) from M*A*S*H, I'd say, Corporal Captain.
-
Just something they're testing out for the war department.
To answer the question, I don't think those troopers are any different rank than any of the others (Bly excluded) in that scene... They're just regular grunts.
-

What's a "grunt" though? Isn't it a generic term to refer to combat soldiers who hold no command rank? They'd still have different ranks like private, etc, I would think. Maybe Anton's on to something.
If I was taking a page (or scene) from M*A*S*H, I'd say, Corporal Captain.
Anyway, this SW continuity **** is clearly no science. I'll just use my imagination. Before, I was thinking lower rank, but now I'm imagining them to be some sort of specialists; sharpshooters or demolitions or something. I stuck my two in with the three Evo guys I have, and so far I have one of them using the pistols where most of the others carry their rifles. Since I've had them, I've had one of the Evos (who I think of as the captain under Bly ;D) carrying the short rifle. I have him posed holding his helmet under his arm.
I really like that they made these reverse pauldron guys. Bly and the Star Corp are my favorite clone troopers. As inane and continuity-defying as GAR military business is, I like the variety these figures lend my little Felucia display. Bly and his command markings, plus macros; helmets on, helmets off; different pauldrons; 3 different gun choices. They look neat displayed together. :)
BTW, they do stand out with that clean, undamaged armor, though, don't they?
-
The same could be said for all the different legions though... They all basically look alike aside from their specialists or their commander (Cody is unique, his AIrborne troops are unique, his AT-RT Troopers are unique, but his regular troopers all look alike and the Airborne and RT Drivers all look like each other... no discernable rank).
It seems somewhere between AOTC and ROTS, either rankings are generally dropped, or their identification methods are drastically altered. There's nothing that seems to cover it but I'd guess there's something that marks the troopers that only other troopers can identify... Perhaps this came about from targeting of commanders by CIS forces?
Obi, talking with Cody prior to his departure of the ship they were on, had a number of other troopers there paying attention... Other lower level "Officers" or non-coms under Cody? Just nosey bystanders?
Tough to say really... I think rank's something that Troopers tend to only be able to discern between each other after ROTS rolls on... And that then carries over to the classics with only visible rank markings being given to units for specific reasons.
The rankings from AOTC were never very intelligently layed out or described... There were some serious discrepencies or unexplained issues. I think it just didn't get much attention paid to it in the prequals. The "Star Corps" (Bly's group), I thought, were described as sort of a special unit... Perhaps his troopers we see with him when he lays out Aayla are something akin to special forces troopers of some sort? We don't get a good look at the troopers in the AT-OT... Do they all look like who Bly's standing with? What about the gelagrub rider? Maybe who Bly has with him are other lower level officers beneath him and they have "basic" looking troopers (no Kama/pistols, no visor), AT-RT Drivers, etc., etc., that bear the same markings as the troops we see up close with Bly, just not the added gear.
Tough to say... I think there was serious lack of thorough thought on the Clones from Lucasfilm/ILM, and then from the sources left to hash through it all afterwards (books and whatnot). I had the same gripe with AOTC where there were more visible officers by the book's definition of colors and hardly any non-coms... I mean, you can count the green clones you see on one hand when they should be the second most abundant color besides white "troopers".
-
Some interesting thoughts there.
I think there was serious lack of thorough thought on the Clones from Lucasfilm/ILM...
Clearly.
The "Star Corps" (Bly's group), I thought, were described as sort of a special unit...
Yeah, I think they are. They do look like ARC troopers...

Interesting. What's AT-OT?
-
There's some mention of it in our prequals forum but it's a walker seen VERY briefly in the Felucia Massacre sequence... Looks akin to an AT-TE but the body is opened up and it's really just a troop transport with minimal weaponry on it. Resembles an AT-TE strongly though. Check the prequals area though, there is definitely a thread on it in there in the recent past. It has a photo I think... Tough vehicle to spot in the movie.
-
I got this set a couple days ago... i couldn't resist more clones... what's happening to me? Fortunately, I now have enough Star Corps troopers (and that nifty packaging!) to re-create the demise of Aayla Secura:
