Title: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Jeff on June 5, 2006, 05:49 PM
This week, Hasbro will be starting a new weekly Star Wars Question and Answer feature on their website.

Every Friday, we get the chance to submit up to three questions that we would like posed to the Star Wars brand team.  All of the questions submitted by the Star Wars Collector Sites will be reviewed by the Hasbro Star Wars team and answers to a select few will be posted on www.Hasbro.com/StarWars on the following Friday afternoon.

Though only a sampling of all questions received will be posted the website each week, Hasbro has promised to make their best effort to respond directly us with the answers to our submitted questions.  Of course, Hasbro may not be able to answer all questions every week (due to volume or questions that may otherwise divulge proprietary information related to future products).

What does this mean for YOU?  Well, we need your questions!

Each week we'll select up to three of the questions in this thread and submit them to the Hasbro Star Wars Team.  Once we start to get answers (or non-answers) back from Hasbro, we'll post them in a handy "2006 Hasbro QnA" Archive Thread!

So, if you have a burning question that you'd like to ask the Hasbro Star Wars team, please post it in this thread.  Please remember that we only get to submit 3 questions total each week, so please limit yourself to posting only a few "high priority" suggested questions each week.

Thanks!

Will there ever be the release of any playsets? They could be modular, a retool of the Vintage Death Star playset, anything.

Will we see a return of the Evolutions line anytime soon, and more Vintage-style VOTC/VSC figures?

Dear Hasbro,

When exactly will we be seeing the release of a new, super-articulated, high-quality Mace Windu? Is this type fo figure on your to-do list, or has it even been mentioned at all?

Thank you,

Why do I have a feeling that Hasbro won't be answering our questions, instead answering questions that they create? Anyway, here's two for them...

In the 2006 figures, why has knee articulation been lacking?

Will we see hard-to-find figures such as Scorch and Commander Cody packed into future assortments?

Why is such cheap plastic used on certain figures like Battle Droids?

I'm not Hasbro, but the answer here is yes

Scorch will ship again at 2x per case in one of the Tatooine wave refresh cases - Saga Wave 5, Revision 2 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85770E2).

Commander Cody will also continue throughout the summer - he can be found at 1x per case in three upcoming case assortments:  Saga Wave 5, Revision 1 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85770E1); Saga Wave 5, Revision 2 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85770E2); and Saga Wave 6 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85770F).

Let's see if we can get a question answered that doesn't involve "when will you make this character or that character?" ...

In the design process of action figures, when and why is the decision made to use "Cut-joints" at the elbows of figures as opposed to "Ball-joints" for the elbows? Each appear to require the same amount of tooling and materials, yet the superior  "Ball-joints" which provide a better playing and display experience for children and collectors are passed over for the choice of "Cut-joints." Can we look forward to a better quality joint for all future action figures?

(1) Does Hasbro ever look at what customizers make?  Like for instance, does something like this inspire them at all to make some more realistic playsets or outsource it to another company like they did with the 12" figures?

Hasbro, What are the plans for future Choopers, Unleashed Battle packs, H&V line and Transformers?  Speaking for a lot of collectors, your time and energy would be better spent developing lines that people actually want to buy and not this junk!

So taking a look at the news post on the main page, I am assuming that Hasbro is picking questions from a pool submitted by multiple sites (I see that RS is doing this as well). So that means the odds of any of our questions getting answered is severly reduced since they are not taking 3 questions from each site, but instead 3 questions total from all sites.

Not quite.  They are taking 3 questions from each site and answering them.  Our 3 are different from RS's questions.

But, they are only going to be taking a sampling of all questions total from all the sites who submitted questions to post on the www.Hasbro.com/starwars website.

Ohhh so the JD questions aren't coming just from this thread then? My bad, I thought everything was coming from this thread, sorry about that.

The answer to the Evolutions question is a bit odd. Evolutions figures were of a superior quality to the ROTS and TSC lines, yet they say the TSC figures are Evolutions quality. I don't know if that is the case for all of the new figures in the TSC line. The sculpting is really good, but the choice in articulation sure doesn't match the Evolutions standards. A look at Major Derlin and Commander Cody show that.

The 3 questions posted today were submitted to Hasbro on Friday, June 2nd.

This thread was not started until Monday, June 5th because we were selfish and filled up the the first week's allotment with our own questions (in fact, Review-Guru Jesse had so many questions that he could have filled a few weeks allotments all on his own  :P)

In the future installments (like the questions we submitted today) we'll be plucking questions (or at least parts or questions) from this thread.  For example, your articulation question from earlier in the week was smooshed together with one of Jesse's articulation questions to make one BIG articulation question on joints.   ;)

So many Q's....

1) Does Hasbro have any thoughts of hasbroshop or starwarsshop smaller cheaper exclusives of things like Accesory packs (misc weapons)  stands, (generic clear from Battlepacks, the plain movie named current versions, or the terrain stands of  OTC/E3?)

2) Any plans for smaller pieced together vehicles (speeders, etc) like how the Marvel figures have pieces packaged with basic figures to create a larger non-standard figure.

3) Any plans for any kind of consistancy? Things like a nice Cody with bad lower legs when perfectly non-posed legs are availabel on many other clones. Some figures that are SA that don't really need to be, and some that should be, that are pre-posed.  Some figures have stiffer plastic  guns/helmets/spears, while the near same sculpt of another pack-in is the cheap rubbery droopy plastic.

Here's my question.

1. Will you ever release accesory packs, like the Target exclusive ones from 2002? Or like the ones from the Episode 1 line?

Hey everybody! I just wanted to compliment everyone involved for the first round of questions. They were all intelligent and I felt Hasbro gave some direct answers.

Here's a question from me:

I feel Hasbro's done their best job ever this year in getting the army builders out to the army builders. However, I still think case ratios for troopers could be better. Are there any plans for greater trooper distribution?

1. It has appeared that after the Naboo wave of figures in the Saga Collection, the line will be done with. What about the rumored Yavin wave? Are those figures ever going to make it into plastic in the Saga Collection? If not, when will they be made?

2. As most people know, next year is the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars. What kind of figure line are you planning on creating to go along with that?

3. Many fans, including myself, are urging for you to make a super-articulated Mace Windu. If the hype is so high, and seeing how big of a part he has in the Star Wars prequels, why aren't you making this figure? Is there something that's keeping you from doing so?

4. There have been a lot of complaints about how none of the background characters are being made. Why is it that you put so many Darth Vaders, Han Solos, and Lukes on the market when they clearly don't sell? During a movie year, it is reasonable to make so many main characters because that is when the kids buy the toys. But lately, it is mostly collectors, not kids, that are buying the figures.

5. It has been hinted that you, the Hasbro™ company, are making an Expanded Universe line (the "hints" you give us are through the order pages of the Shadow Stormtrooper and the Kir Kanos exclusive 2-pack). Can you give us any more information at all about that line? For example, are all the figures going to be from the Crimson Empire comics?

6. If Quinlan Vos does not win the Fan's Choice poll, will you ever make him? It is obvious (at least to me) that many, many fans want Master Vos in figure-form. Do you have plans to make him?

7. Is an accurate, super-articulated Return of the Jedi Luke in Death Star outfit even on your to-do list? There are quite a few fans that are really, really, really wanting this figure made. I, too, am one of those people. Will it ever be made? Will it be included in next year's line?

Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

"Why doesn't Hasbro focus on the 3-3/4" line, seeing that is what sells and so much space at retail is dedicated to other Star Wars lines that everyone knew would flop (Choppers, Force Battlers, small Unleashed)?"

"Why did Hasbro go with the 2" Unleashed... if they want to go away from the 7", why not experiment with a 3-3/4" scale Unleashed, using all army builders?  Galactic Marines, Stormtroopers, Battle Droids, etc."

"Why not allow for Gentle Giant or Sideshow to have the rights to playsets?"

"Has Hasbro considered interviewing more collectors (or even hiring some) to help them figure out what the collecting market really wants?"

Thanks!

 :)

I ran into a Hasbro rep today at Walmart.  The only question she could answer was my initial questions, which was "Do you work for Hasbro?"

Oh well, can't blame her for not knowing what I was talking about.  I asked her what control the stores might have on what they get in, why so little shelf space is dedicated the 3-3/4" figures but the other SW stuff gets more space (and doesn't sell).  She really didn't know what to say, except to keep coming back to look for the figures I want.

Geez, everyone is running into Hasbro rep's these days! I would be so happy if I could tell him/her that Hasbro should make an SA Mace windu!

I ran into a Hasbro rep a couple weeks back as well, not the first time either. If you run into them at a large retail outlet such as TRU or Walmart, they're likely from Consumer Affairs and are checking in on the store to see if they're properly stocked. They tend not to know much about specific lines other than what is currently available for retail to purchase and as such what the stores should have. If an item isn't already in distribution, they aren't likely to know what you're talking about. Even if it is in distribution you're going to have to be specific and clear about the item, as was the case when I asked the rep I saw at TRU about the Hunt for Grievous battlepack. She was aware of a TRU exclusive battlepack, but didn't know it's name off the top of her head and since it wasn't on her checklist for TRU at the time, she had no way of knowing what it was until I gave a clear description. Sales reps would know more details, I ran into one at an old mom and pop store in Chicago around the time of Episode 2. But seeing such reps nowadays is extremely rare since there aren't many small time stores left and all the big retail outlets have a national (or global) sales team associated with them.

Onto a question for Hasbro...

When can we expect consistency with the types of plastics you are using for the Star Wars basic figure line? Since late 2000, you have  used a softer plastic on many figures - primarily Battle Droids and other figures with thin limbs - which has caused them to warp and no longer be of play value for children or be aesthetically pleasing for collectors to display. This results in bad brand recognition for Star Wars as a toyline that uses inferior materials, when compared to your own GI Joe figure lines, as well as reducing the rate of return for shoppers purchasing Star Wars figures - especially parents who would not one to keep buying the same figure over and over for their children if it's going to be easily damaged.  Though these toys are not designed to last a lifetime, they should be designed to last more than a year without major damage such as their heads touching their toes when left to stand on their own on a shelf.
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Smartypants1635 on June 16, 2006, 05:24 PM
1.  Articulation is a popular feature on toys for children and adults alike.  Is it possible we'll see things like elbow, wrist, and knee joints become the standard in the Hasbro basic line on all figures, regardless of their role in the films, since poseable toys are popular?

** We weigh each figure based on their individual needs and the costing of the product overall.  If a character has a significant accessory, or is in a multi-pack, we will evaluate that vs. just premium articulation for the sake of articulation.

My god, I can't beleive that, with Saga 2 being such a complete let down for accesories, and articulation they really can't justify that answer.

Lets take hem dazon for example: great sculpt, nice accesories(3 or 4) a gun/holster, a glass, and table. The table I bet alot of kids could have done without, as well as the cup, articulated legs would be much better IMO. ::)
Oh well.

Heres my Question.

With the New legacy series of comics out this year, is there any plans for Legacy? I know that you said that EU is coming next year but I wanted to know Legacy in specific. :)

I just wanted to start off by saying that the Star Wars line is fantastic. Now, I wanted to ask a question. Is there any chance that we will see the Deluxe/ Ultra line return? I really liked the bigger figures like Clone Trooper Builders, Ewok Gliders, Darth Vader Operating Table, Crab Droid, and Droid Army. I would love to see a line of Deluxe figures again to complement the basic Figure line.

How about giving us a peek into the figure selection process? For example, the Naboo FLight Crew looks like it'll be a customizer's dream. But it was never clamored for (nor probably even noticed on screen since it's so mundane), yet it's going to be made ahead of so many figures on the collective colledtor wishlist.

The Titanium packaging sports the Galoob and Micromachines logos alongside Hasbro's. Was this a contractual obligation (stemming from the takeover), or a marketing decision?

Who came up with the idea to mock collectors by giving the Saga/AOTC Aayla figure soft goods?

Although I've read in forums on multiple sites and even multiple times in the Questions for Hasbro from different sites expressing fan desire for accurate playsets, even for smaller and modular ones, that you (Hasbro) are not interested in making playsets.  Then, how about more "set dressing" like some of the accessories that have been included with past figures (like the piece with General Rieekan, the bar pieces - both in ANH & AOTC, the Jedi council floor & chairs, the separtists war table,  Luke w/Bacta Tank, Leia with Sail Barge Cannon, etc)?  I'm really not sure what those little round things are supposed to be with Hem Dazon & Momaw Nadon, but an acurate Cantina table would be cool, tactical stations, moisture vaporators, the Cantina center bar (where the drinks are mixed), vehicle ladders (like in the canceled Target accessory pack), Death Star table & chairs that Vader, Tarkin, Motti, etc. sat at,  things like that?

Why are there not VOTC-style Stormtroopers packed in every single wave of figures?  They are the single most desired army-building figure, and WILL NOT pegwarm for any length of time, ever.  This seems like it could be a consistent money-maker for Hasbro, despite the extra cost of articulation, so why is it not taken advantage of?

That being said, are you aware of what customizers are making?

Or, at the very least some sort of nice accessory set like this?

1.  What is the likelyhood of getting army builders with packed in changeable heads so that it can really be 2, 3 or even 4 different figures on the shelf.  This would apply mostly to Rebels or pilots whose faces are visible even when their removable helmet is on.

2.  Are we going to ever get a new Death Squad Commander / Death Star Trooper that is super articulated?  He would not need an accessory so one could assume the uber-expensive and difficult ball-joint elbow has a better than 10% chance of making it.

P.S.  Please stop with the canned answers, just give me a yes or no, so I can decide whether to stop collecting and buying stuff for my kids and my nephew.j

ALSO...Do you guys think Follow Up Questions would be a good idea?  There are about 20 questions that beg for follow ups so far. Mostly because of the flawed or incomplete logic Hasbro has used in it answers.

Hasbro,

Will we see more TPM figures in future assortments? It seems like The Phantom Menace gets the shaft in terms of figures, having only one wave a figures this year and no vehicles. I think I speak for many collectors when I say that we'd like to see much fan-requested figures like Mawhonic, a "Ultimate" Qui-Gon Jinn, a "Ultimate" Battle Droid, and Tey How, to name a few.

Hasbro answered that question last week...

3. It appears as if the highly requested Airborne Clone Trooper sculpt is finally being released (with Purple colors, in the upcoming "Mace Windu's Squadron" Battle Pack at Target). When can we expect this figure to appear in the basic figure assortment, with the highly requested Commander Cody/Orange Squadron colors?

Why don't the Republic Commandos in the upcoming pack have balljointed knees, ankles & arms? The RCs are the most action packed clones in the SW universe, so those would make sense.

Scorch didn't have that articulation, so it was likely the other RCs, being repaints of him, woudn't include that articulation. Personally I'm fine with it.

Hasbro, are there any plans for an R2-D2 that is a re-paint of the ROTS SP R4-G9?

If I could maybe add on to this a little:

What's next for Artoo-Detoo?  Early photography for the Saga-010 Hoth version showed what appeared to be an R4-G9 repainted to look like Artoo, and it looked fantastic.  Then the production figure turned out to be the VOTC sculpt, which was disappointing to many collectors and Artoo fans, who consider the R4-G9 to be the best astromech sculpt to date.

For a character who doesn't appear to change much throughout the six films, there are still a few things that haven't been done with him yet in toy form--the afore-mentioned R4-G9 repaint being one, and "battle-damaged" versions from the battles of Yavin and Endor being others.

So again I ask, what's next for Artoo?

Dear Hasbro,

My question is in understanding the role of Battlestar Galactica toys being offered in the Star Wars assortments.  You are including Battlestar Galactica vehicles from the new tv series in the Titantium line.  Are you considering offering any titanium Battlestar Galactica action figures in the titanium line or the regular action figure line or battle packs.

I especially like the idea of having the new cylon being metal just like IG-88 and C-3PO.

Lastly on this same line of questioning does your Battlestar Galactica license allow you to make 1/18 vehicles that would be compatable with the Star Wars figures.  Might these vehicles be a little more cost effective to make?  The Viper?  The Raptor, etc.

Thanks for the great work and your willingness to communicate with fans.
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

Hasbro,

I think the time is right for a new line of A-Team toys.  Do you currently have the A-Team license, and if not, would you be willing to get it?

I think I can speak for all of us Eighties' kids who grew up with the show that we'd really like to see your take on it.  A new Hannibal, Face, B.A. Baracus (with removable gold chains) and Murdock (perhaps with a "goofy face" variant) would sell like hotcakes.  It would also be cool to have the black van with the red stripe to put them all in and drive them around and stuff.

Perhaps if this wouldn't be possible right now, maybe you could just occasionally stick one of the guys into the Star Wars line or something.  You know, do a Murdock, but just call him "Tatooine Street Peasant" and put him on a Star Wars card.  That way, both the Star Wars fans and the A-Team fans would by him, because everybody loves cross-marketing.

Thanks, Hasbro!

I am happy to see that you are releasing more OT figs to coincide with the 30th anniversary next year.  Are you also going to release any figures that were ONLY in the original versions of the movies because they were subsequently deleted from the SE's, such as Hyenaman or R2-A5?  With the word that this will be the final release of the original OT, it seems like a great time to make some of these characters.

I think most collectors would agree that there aren't any film characters too obscure to be produced, but some less popular characters may sell poorly when compared to other figures in the same wave.  For example, Bren Derlin tended to "warm the pegs" (even though I was glad to get him, and bought 3 for various diorama scenes).  Do you consider lowering the number of an obscure figure in a case so that he'll sell more?  Not only will that have people perceive it as a "rare" figure, but it would sell out to the die-hard collectors who want those obscure figures.  A Yarna or Willrow Hood would not likely sell to lots of kids, but if ratios are low enough, they wouldn't remain on store shelves for long.  I'd rather this than never seeing characters made because of general interest in obscure characters being low.

Hasbro said no comments on this question previous to comic con and the toyfare poll, since Luke was among the top 25, and at comic con hasbro made a comment about Luke's Death Star II belt being more detailed and hasbro wanting to do this figure. How soon will we see this version of this badly wanted character, you'd make many fan's happy. Also, what about SA versions of Obi-Wan, both TPM and AOTC?

Were the scene specific bases that came with some of the SAGA figures (Ayala Secura, Tatooine Ambush Tusken Raider, Secret Ceremony Padme, etc) and the Dagobah Wave OTC figures designed with anything specific in mind? Some seem like they're supposed to be a part of something larger and most seem to have specific thoughts in mind as to how they connect to others.

We've seen a lot of re-releases in the past few years. I know some completist collectors are frustrated with that, but I think it's a smart idea from a marketing standpoint. My question is if we will see re-releases of some of the figures that were difficult to get the first time around (Sio Bibble, Admiral Motti, Lars Homestead Padme, Feltipern Trevagg, etc.)?

Looking back at all the figures we've gotten over the years, it's not hard to notice the drastic differences in 'rarity' from one figure to the next within the same line and even the same wave. Aside from some characters simply being more popular than others, what do you think is the main reason for this? And what, if anything, are you doing to create more of a "balance?"

Can you give us any insight into what's in store for us next year with the more "collector-oriented" BattlePacks?

Dear Hasbro:
I have OCD, and there are several figures that need slight retouches that need to be addressed. Could you possibly think about altering these figures? Ishi Tibb has an awesome face sculpt, but not the Jabba's Palace body (kitbash?). The Tantive 4 Rebel troopers are also an awesome sculpt, but the black paint goes way beyond where it should on the helmet (slight repaint?) Commander Gree from the battle of Kashykk is likewise cool, with just a slight painted stripe tweak needed to the helmet. And Finally I loved the sculpt on Donnik Jericho cantina patron, but hated the holes on his face for the EU vampire tubes (just fill in the mouth holes?) Two army builders and two aliens would be good sellers again. PLEASE?

My retail (8 of them) stores here in Southern California are overflowing with Heroes and Villians, Greatest Battles(ROTS basic refreshers that everyone has had there fill of). Seeing the pegs that full of that same product for the last 2 months is not an indicator it's selling well rather it's an indicator of overproduction/ overguaging demand. If the retailers are really asking for that much basic then do the buyers a favor, send the retailers NEW product, please. After seeing a store get 15 cases of ROTS rehash that they can't even stock because their pegs are maxed with more of the same, where's my hope to ever get any of the new product that is already in abundance over the rest of the US. I'd wager the major retailer's won't ask for future large shipments such as this when they learn old product does not sell well. My question is..what are you going to to do about this problem?

At Comicon you mentioned that the McQuarrie Stormtrooper  figure "may" be short packed.  From what I read about the presentation, this announcment was met with boos.   Don't you (and other companies) understand that short-packing does not create buzz and excitement?  It creates apathy and resentment towards your company, and alienates collectors.  Will the McQuarrie figure be short-packed?

In one of the earliest Q & A sessions you (Hasbro) stated that there would be no more animated style Clone Wars figures because collectors preferred 'realistic' sculpts.
So why are you ignoring your own market research by releasing the new Marvel EU 2-Packs with their very unrealistic, crazy paint jobs?

(Truth is, I like the Marvel figs, and I LOVE the animated style figs...)

Really?  Since when was the torture Droid green?  And since when did the Stormtroopers have red eyes and blue highlights?  While they are sculpted "realistically" they are painted very unrealistically.   I think what it comes down to is this...could you display them ina diorama along with other TSC figures?

Will the McQuarrie figure be short-packed?

The answer is yes.

The McQuarrie Stormtrooper is only 1x per case in the first wave of 2007 figures.  He won't be a chase figure or anything, but he will be only 1x per case like a few others in the first wave.

I don't know if something like this has been asked or not, but I'm going to post it anyway.

Hasbro,

Will there be a standard rifle for Clone Trooper figures from now on? Next year's Galactic Marine and Elite Scout/Kashyyyk/BARC Trooper looks to be carrying an Evolutions Clone Trooper rifle, while next years Airborne Trooper has the Clone Trooper rifle that has been packed with most of the Clone Trooper figures from 2002 to now. Is there going to be a standard type of Clone Trooper rifle from now on, or will they continue to be mixed? I think two different styles of the same weapon looks silly when I put my Clone Troopers together into one large group.

Hasbro's standard reply (when they do reply), is that :

Quote
Your Exclusive George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise) Figure will be mailed to you between June 30, 2006 and December 31, 2006.

Unforunately, they are running a bit slowly with the orders lately... some folks have waited 3-4 months.  There isn't anything you can really do at this point to make them go any faster.   :-\
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

Here's a question...

Would you, or have you ever, considered continuing the vintage line with newly sculpted characters in the simple style of the 70s and 80s?  A sandtrooper, Grand Moff Tarkin and A Rebel Fleet Trooper would be amazing pieces, as would Drath Maul,  Jango Fett or any kind of Clone. If done correctly, they would be cheaper to produce than regular figures becuse of less paints applications and articulation.  You could also packe them like the Vintage OTC/Saga figures and since they would be a fringe sub-line, you could charge more for them.  They would make excellent exclusives. As someone who has collected since the Early Bird kit, these would be a bit of a dream come true.
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Matt on November 7, 2006, 11:51 AM
They answered a similar question a few months ago:

Quote
For years I have waited in hopes of seeing a true vintage line of figures representing characters from Episodes I, II, and III! I know most vintage star wars collectors would go nuts for true vintage scuplts of key characters from the three prequel movies. With the scuplting style of the 80's the vintage line would be the figures to collect. The three movies could be broken down into six figure assortments. (ED: List omitted- overly extensive.) (F, 7/14/06) (http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=fignews2.setup&category=actionfigures&topic=77&show_article=445&nl=1)

We have no plans to go back to the true vintage Kenner style of sculpt. We have looked at this several times, and the belief is that while this would be appealing to some, the greater collecting audience wants figures that continue to offer modern sculpting and articulation aesthetics. Any figures done in this style would not be as popular as figures done in the modern style.

Dear Hasbro,

I was very disappointed to learn that you wouldn't be producing anymore animated style Clone Wars figures.  Each offering sold briskly and the line had enormous potential, especially if it were to spin-off and include designs from the Original Trilogy.  If you won't make them, would you ever consider sharing the responsibilities of such a line similar to the situation you have with Sideshow Collectibles and the 12" line.  Gentle Giant appears to have carved themselves a nice niche in making animated style maquettes & bust-ups and would be a natural candidate for such a product.

Thanks.

I noticed an unintentional (or so it seems) feature on the TSC C-3PO with Ewok throne. His arms seem to be very easy to snap off and back on again. This feature merged with his superior articulation makes me wonder if you would ever consider re-releasing him with ANH Tatooine paint-aps to recreate his fallduring the Tusken attack. With your new VTSC Sand People a figure like this would look very good. How about a repaint of this figure into a new, non-battle damaged K-3PO for Hoth scenes? Or maybe TC-14? I just think that this well-articulated figure would be great for high-demand protocol droid re-paints in the near future. Just a thought. So what do you think?

Here's a question, or a couple:

It seems that there is a certain quality to various basic figure sculpts. It's as if one with a good eye could pick out who sculpted which figure. How many sculptors work on the basic figure line and how does the process work? Is one sculptor assigned to a particular figure and solely responsible for it's look? Do the SW sculptors work solely on SW?

Already has been asked...

Remember to look at the Q&A Archive in the collecting forum that our forum member Matt has put together in both chronological and categorical order.  He goes week-by-week keeping track of all the Q's asked and their A's from all the sites that are getting questions in to Hasbro, even if they're trying to keep it a secret.

The Beasts topic has been brought up and answered though so look to it...

Anton, that's interesting so it may make the hopper...  I've noticed the same thing about sculpts where you can almost tell who's doing what by the look of the figure.  Be nice to put names to the sculpts ina  way, especially from my POV with reviews here.  It wouldn't make me any nicer (or meaner) but it'd be interesting to me.

Deanna,

Again this is one that's  been covered...  Go to our 30th Anniversary Collection portion of the forums and look through the chronological/categorical Q&A archive that is pinned to the top of the forum there and the Unleashed question has been asked to death...  Hasbro's not bringing it back in the near future, at least in new product, as the cost is prohibitive to the risk involved.  Only re-releases can be hoped for, and the 2" battlepacks.

My son and I finished putting together the Lego General Grievous starfighter.  He also recently got the titanium version of the GG starfighter.  My 5 year old asked if he could have a large plastic version of the General Grievous starfighter.

Is there a reasonable chance that Hasbro will come out with a 3 3/4" scale version of the General Grievous starfighter in the near future.  I think the vehicle is small enough to hit the magic $20 price range and it was used by Obi-wan in the movie.

I noticed that the hilt for the up coming Ceremony Luke is the hilt from Darth Vader. Is this just a case of a sample image with the wrong saber hilt? If not, why does Hasbro keep getting this wrong? (i.e. VTSC X-wing Luke also came with the Vader hilt). Also, the hilt in on the attached saber hand for the Ep. Hey guys/gals,

Just a head's up...  I was digging back through the Q&A thingie here...  Well, the Q's specifically.  A lot of stuff is already asked that you guys wanted to know...  Questions on playsets, 7" unleashed and things are dead horses that have been beaten repeatedly in the Q&A between all the sites...  I feel your pain for these things and big vehicles and the like but remember forum member Matt keeps a dandy Q&A archive in the 30th Anniversary Collection forums.  It's categorical AND alphabetical chronological (Sorry Matt), so you can look into stuff pretty easily there.

Also remember, asking "Can I have ship A, Figure B, or what is the likelihood of ______ happening", are really the kinds of questions that often get shot down by Hasbro with a "wait and see" type answer, so while I wanna know everything early too, it's a question slot we'd rather fill with something that tells us about how Hasbro works, why they do what they do, and finding out information that's more plausible.

Just a little reminder...  Do use the Q&A thread here though, we're looking through it and the other Q&A thread to keep our eyes out for questions.  No guarantees on what gets asked, especially with the frequency of the Q&A being slashed to every other week...  But ask and sometimes we can help your wording to get a better question into the Hasbro folks.

Enjoy!

I am just wondering on the availability of the new 30th anniversary wave. will Canada once again miss the last couple of waves? and the waves that are sold here, will they be short supplied as well? I have to completely disagree.  By asking these type of questions, Hasbro did confirm the upcoming Sith Infiltrator last Sept (YF 9/29/06).  I think these questions raise the interest of ship A or Figure B or "what is the likelihood of _____ happening" to Hasbro.  Even if Hasbro replies "wait and see" type answer on one question they may provide a tidbit another question.

That's fine to disagree but the proof is in the pudding...  Hasbro's confirmations of any given item from those types of questions are very few and far between and in general they're a slot we'd like filled with something more interesting or that will get a more thought-out answer than "wait and see" from Hasbro.  The Q&A isn't to waste questions by hoping you are raising awareness to the staff at Hasbro...  That's wishful thinking really and I guarantee there's MANY figures people think they're not considering that they most certainly are thinking of over there at Hasbro.

Sometimes questions like that will go through, depending on what is out there credible to back that question up (a strong rumor or whatnot), but in general we look for something that will get us a definitive answer if possible instead of a roll of the dice with the Q&A here at JD.

Some decent Q's since I was in here last too, I'm curious about the Jedi Luke myself, so we'll certainly be looking into EVERYTHING you guys ask of course.  We're keeping a close eye on this thread daily.

Hasbro

Just curious about your designs for the Asharad Hett expanded universe two pack figure. Have you considered using 2 different head sculpts(1 with Tusken wrap/ 1 exposed tattooed human face) or trying a removeable 'Tusken mask' concept to accurately showed Hett's exposed tattooed face? I feel it important to show the characters' comic-accurate real face with tusken wrap as well to fully capture all the comics portayals of him. It would seem to me anyone can use any tusken head to do a custom of this character if they want so a tusken-head only design here won't suffice or satisfy. What do you think?

Last weeks question was so definitive.

1. Any chance we can get a picture of the Rebel Troopers from the "Capture of Tantive IV" Battle Pack without their helmets?

** We only have one picture available for one of the Rebel Troopers, and it's only with the helmet. We're sorry, but this is the best image we have for now.

This battle pack should be available in stores in few weeks/months.  My understanding that it should have been released, but has been delayed.  With all due respect I think someone could have selected a better question.  The toyfair was less than 2 weeks away and I am sure there will be helmetless samples to photograph.

Keep up the good work submitting safe esoteric questions.

Here is a question for Hasbro.

If the decision was made today to produce a small to medium vehicle concept/prototype, roughly how long would it bring it to market/shelves.  How does this process differ from figure development with respect to time.
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Jesse James on February 5, 2007, 11:06 PM
Actually, we asked that because A) Hasbro's given us photos in the Q&A so we were testing that again...  And B) it was something of a curiosity about the pack that was being delayed (no word on when it was to ship) that we'd observed around the community...  People were just curious what the headsculpts would look like and we were trying to get that answered since the pack was announced and people had a curiosity about that (since the question about the Stormtroopers being clean was definitively answered in a previous Q&A).

That said, we beat ourselves to our own question, and answered it with one of our news stories during the week...  It was a moot point.  We got helmetless images of the Fleet Trooper in a completely separate story...  It was still a good valid question that Hasbro was WILLING to answer if they could have...  It wasn't asking about something unknown and getting a "wait and see" answer because people wanted to know if (Insert Random Figure Name Here) was coming out next year.

While you feel a question asking for a random figure would've been better...  we do not.  I honestly don't think we'll see the Tantive IV battlepack displayed at Toy Fair since it's due for release pretty soon, but it could happen.  Either way...  if you waited to see things at conventions, why ask any questions in the first place?  People seemed pretty happy seeing the RFT a little early just as there was lots of happiness/talk generated by the Galactic Marine seen without his helmet when we asked for that...  You don't like those questions, that's fine spacejunker, but at the end of the day it seems the majority liked the answers they got and it certainly felt better getting something than getting "wait and see" out of Hasbro.

That's not to say character-specific questions aren't able to get slipped in sometimes, it just means it's better when there's something giving that question credence to pull an actual response out of Hasbro...

There's plenty of sites weekly who use their questions to ask for random characters...  I'm sure one of them will be ready and willing to submit those questions you have for them.  Our Q&A's being run a little differently though since we're trying to actually get answers to questions out of Hasbro that they're willing to spill the beans on...  The Q&A's not a "submissions list" of character names and such for what you want produced in the line afterall.  If that's esoteric in nature...  so be it.  I don't quite see it that way at all though and we're more than happy with the results the Q&A has given us so far.

Not every other site's looking at it as you are though, where they feel just getting a character's name out into Hasbro's mind through the Q&A is a positive even if it yields a dead-end answer.  Maybe that thought can make some of the frustrated more content with what they're given in terms of answers from Hasbro?

First I can tell by your response you are taking this way too seriously.  If you are bothered by my comments, I appologize. The fact that I am spending time responding to this tells me that I am taking this way too seriously.

I mainly follow this site because of the private store reports.  I started picking this stuff up after my son got hooked watching attack of the clones on DVD.  I started to pay attention to this site after I became frustrated finding empy pegs everytime I went to the store during most of 2005.

As I stated earlier my son had asked me the question and at the time I thought it was worth posting.  IF I had known I would have gotten this reponse I wouldn't have bothered to ask this question.  Your right I can/did take the question and read reasonable response on a different site.

I think this is pretty convoluted reasoning for selecting that question.  If people were curious about the about the battle pack delay, directly ask that question.  They have answered that question before on other things, especially if the delay is longer than anticipated.  For everything else see my first comment.

That said, we beat ourselves to our own question, and answered it with one of our news stories during the week...  It was a moot point.  We got helmetless images of the Fleet Trooper in a completely separate story...  It was still a good valid question that Hasbro was WILLING to answer if they could have...

I am sorry, but I still think this was a poor question, especially since you were able to obtain the answer from a different source within a week from when the question was asked.

I thought this particular question was a poor choice and reasoning that you provided for the selection of that question a little sublime.  I am not attacking every question JD posed, I am stating this particular question could have been better selected.  At this point I would have rather had a "we will see" response.  I would be more curious about some of decsion making process that Hasbro goes in selecting or not selecting a specific vehicles than whether they have a picture of some figure with his helmet off.

That's not to say character-specific questions aren't able to get slipped in sometimes, it just means it's better when there's something giving that question credence to pull an actual response out of Hasbro...

I agree with this statement.

First I can tell by your response you are taking this way too seriously.

Not at all...  I'm simply explaining to you WHY we ask the questions we ask and tend to ignore the character-specific questions such as "when will you make _______?" type questions.  If by "serious" you mean that you expected NO response from the people who work here at the site, well I don't know what to tell you...  I posted for the site's benefit, and for the staff's pertaining to the Q&A selection here, the ideas and creative thinking we'd like people to put into their questions...  You didn't agree with that and I explained why.  You cited a question you didn't like because you'd rather have had a question that had a probability of getting no answer because you feel it influences Hasbro's decision making on action figures (and what they'll produce or consider), and I explained why we don't feel that's probable and don't feel it's worth using up one of our 3 slots every week (or every other week now, as it were).

I guess that depends on your definition of taking things too seriously...  Since I do work here though I'm trying to make it as abundantly clear as possible the how's and why's of the selection process since there's a lot to ask and Hasbro's given us some distinct precedents to work with in the Q&A's.

And completely separate here, I hope the store reports bit is working out for you since the Cali group can be pretty active and that's an area that's reportedly pounded with scalpers, collectors, and everything else.

I don't think you really understood what I wrote...  There was no curiosity about the delay of the battlepack...  Well, nothing that required a question anyway.  I think it's fairly established on that pack actually that the Stormtroopers being dirty was what held it up and why it's delayed into 2007's BP assortments...  I could be wrong on that but off the top of my head that was the reasoning Hasbro gave at some point or another.

The reason we asked for pictures of the Fleet Trooper's headsculpt was because people were simply curious, knowing the Troopers had new headsculpts with removable helmets, what the troopers would look like.  Some consider that a substantial improvement on the figure...  Since the pack was announced, images had surfaced of the set boxed/loose, we decided to ask Hasbro for a photo of the Trooper sans helmet...  It didn't have to do with the pack's delay, so I'm not sure what you meant there.  It was simple curiosity to see something new up close...  much like our request to see the Galactic Marine figure sans helmet, which Hasbro obliged.

Quote
I am sorry, but I still think this was a poor question, especially since you were able to obtain the answer from a different source within a week from when the question was asked.

And as I noted, that's fine by us that you weren't happy with the question...  At the worst it's no less/more information than we would have obtained asking a dead-end question, so to me personally I'm no more happy or disappointed with Hasbro's response to it...

Though about the photos we did obtain early, that really has no impact one way or the other on the question we asked...  Why it disappointed you even more since we got the photos on our own is a mystery then.  What we can/can't obtain via sources is completely up in the air, usually till last minute, so we got the photographs to use and we ran with them knowing we'd submitted that question a little less than a week prior to Hasbro answering it...   I guess to simplify it; How are we supposed to know that we're going to dig up a news scoop on our own, and just incase we do aren't supposed ask Hasbro about something they may answer themselves?

As I noted, the reasons we asked that question were that the pack was announced, there had been some images...  We wanted to see the changes made up close, and Hasbro's photo actually would've done well for that had we not gotten our own image to use.  But either way it's no better/worse a question than one that wouldn't get answered too.

Quote
I thought this particular question was a poor choice and reasoning that you provided for the selection of that question a little sublime.  I am not attacking every question JD posed, I am stating this particular question could have been better selected.  At this point I would have rather had a "we will see" response.  I would be more curious about some of decsion making process that Hasbro goes in selecting or not selecting a specific vehicles than whether they have a picture of some figure with his helmet off.

Well, as I noted...  Our reasoning for trying to avoid the "we will see" answer is we view it as a guaranteed wasted question.  I know you cited the argument that it gets the character's name out there, it gets it into the subconcsious minds of Hasbro somehow, but I think you underestimate how many characters they're always pondering over at Hasbro.  And to us that hopeful idea that they'll at least consider something since it got mentioned isn't a fantastic reason to use a question up.  Sometimes maybe, but not generally when you can get actual answers and information out of them too, about something you haven't seen/heard yet.

I know you're not attacking every question we ask, and I'm trying to give you the reasons why we don't run with many questions...  It's a weeding out process.  To us, our site ran with the question you dislike because it had a reasonable chance of getting answered and there was curiosity about the subject...  not by you obviously, but other people found it interesting (at least they found the story we posted with photos we got early interesting).  Some questions in our log maybe would've been better, we don't rank them, but they'll get asked eventually if the Q&A continues steadily for the extended future.  If worse came to worse all we'd ask is "when will we get ____________" type questions for lack of question asking most likely.  Depends how long the Q&A runs I suppose.

I hope that helped clarify the point...  I don't think you caught some of that information the first time.  The question definitely wasn't asked because there was any curiosity why the battlepack was delayed at least.  That wasn't implied in anything I read back through anyway.  It just got asked because people were curious about the headsculpts on the Troopers.

Since many of the characters are based off of 100% CG creations, has Hasbro tried to gain access to the specific character color palettes used by ILM when choosing the paint schemes for such characters?

You've stated in the past that you have concieved and would like to produce playests, but that they aren't a good move for Hasbro financially.  Would you ever consider posting concept art of the pieces that are unmade?  It would be a very "Art of Star Wars-y" type thing to do.

The Biggs bit is definitely a good question...  I've been a little perplexed by that myself.  Odd omission.  I thought it was a fluke more than anything but it's missing in the photo and Toy Fair...  I think if we don't ask that this go-round, someone will, but we'll keep it in mind as a good candidate.

Adam May at GH (http://www.galactichunter.com/blogger/) asked about the missing cape at Toy Fair...

Quote
To answer a few e-mail questions I’ve received, no there will be no cape packaged with the Biggs Darklighter figure, and there just isn’t time to make the correction. Or at least that’s what they told us. We honestly don’t know where the communication gap happened, but keep in mind that even LFL doesn’t have 100% source material for every costume and character. It just fell through the cracks.

Basically, they forgot it and no one caught it until it was too late...  :-\

I bet that Biggs' cape is AWOL because of Luke Vaporator.  They've said that in the past they have to find way to save on certain figures when other figures go over budget.  Personally, I could have done without the vaporator.  I really wanted that cool turtle-neck collar cape. It's very unique, and oh, so 70s!

In the 12/01/06 version of the Q&A  you stated "She (Snowbunny Padme) is not pre-posed, but has normal articulation"
I just bought this figure, and she is in my opnion "Pre-Posed."  What I mean by this, is that outside of her pointing her gun, she looks ridiculous in any other pose, and her wide leg stance always makes her look like she's fighting.

First Question:  What do you consider Pre-Posed?

Second Question:  When you've had such positive reaction to articluation in the '05 ROTS line and the '06 SAGA line, why, in 2007, would you go back to a style of figure that was recieved poorly in 2002?
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Darby on February 24, 2007, 03:58 PM
My own guess is to why Padme is like that is because she dates from 2003, but it's a question I'd like to see answered to.  Regarding that:

Are there any figures from recent years (ROTS, Saga, OTC, POTJ, or even Episode I) that have yet to make it into the basic line for whatever reason?  If so, any hints as to what they might be?

Only ONE Ewok for Saga? Would you conisder a Ewok Battle Pack (only Ewoks) Or maybe doing a double Pack like you did recently with the Battle Droids?  A good idea for the Battle Pakcs might to use the Celebration at the end of the ROTJ when the Ewoks are celebrating. You could even include the Ewok playing music on the helmets of the Stormtroopers?

I recently bought the well-sculpted and nicely articulated 30AC Mace Windu.  However, I was shocked that the plastic in his Jedi "skirt" was so stiff that it made any leg movement above the knees hopeless.  The 30 AC Obi-Wan (originally from 2 years ago) has a softer skirt with slits allowing for excellent playabilty.
Why would you ignore a previous success and produce a less satisfying product in times when children are less and less interested in action figures?

or...

The new Mace Windu will not sit down due to the stiffness in his Jedi Skirt.  With a Mace Windu Jedi Fighter on the shelves, why wouldn't it be a priority to make the figure and the ship interact.  Toy companies keep stating that children are more into video games, but when a figure won't fit into his designated ship, who can blame the kids?

Someone might need to reword this to be a little more congenial, but here goes:

It seems to me that over the course of the last few years, more and more attention is being paid to the "displayability" of mint-in-package toys than to the quality of said toys upon removal from the package.  Throughout 2006, some figures were packaged in "action" poses in their blisters (e.g. Utapau Clone Trooper) whose posing tended to warp the already flexible plastic to the point of disfigurement.  The little clear rubber bands used to hold a character's weapons in their hands are also problematic in that they often warp the hands to the point where holding their accompanying weaponry is impossible.

Vehicles have begun to suffer the same fate, as seen in the total warping of Commander Neyo and the Saleucami Clone Trooper's hands to such an extreme that they can not hold the handlebars of their BARC Speeders, much less hold the blasters included in the package, due to the use of plastic rubber bands.  These days, if it's in a window box, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a shoddy product once you negotiate all the twist ties and rubber bands, rendering playability almost useless.

My question is this:  Why, in the face of this being such a widespread problem, does Hasbro continue to design things seemingly geared more toward the mint-in-package collector at the expense of the playability of the actual toy that people are buying the item for?
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: ruiner on March 27, 2007, 05:04 PM
I can answer that.

Because the toy companies only get one shot to 'sell' you.  If it looks purdy in the box, you're more prone to buy it.

The twist ties and rubber bands exist not only to sell the product, but to require you to destroy the inner fittings -- so much so that returning the item to the store (because of disfigurment) is darn near impossible.

Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Jesse James on March 28, 2007, 04:12 AM
The bubbles are recyclable plastic, and the cards are just cardboard more or less so I'd say everything in the package is able to be recycled.  I know I keep the rubber bands.  They're damn near indestructable and don't rot over time as regular rubber bands do.  They're ideal if you need a rubber band then.

This is a burning question that a lot of people on our forum seem to have, including me. It is difficult to tell from the early pics whether or not the EU Academy Biggs has articulated knees, so I was wondering if you can tell us?

Nobody likes the new stormtrooper's helmet, sorry for my brutal honesty. It is extremely 'fat' for lack of a better word. Is there any chance that this will be corrected in time for its release?

Wave 2 looks great. When can we expect to see it on the shelves?

There is a rumored Galactic Heroes 2-pack that is said to include 'Garindan and Duros' Will there really be more than one Duro? (the two from the cantina being Baniss Keeg and Ellorrs Madak) That set sounds great already but two Duros! That'd make it even better.

When can we expect to see pictures of the confirmed Hermi Odle and C-3PO with Salacious Crumb?

A lot of fans do not think that the new McQuarrie Concept Vader is not entirely accurate and there hasn't been as much excitement about this one as there has been about other concept figures. My suggestion to improve it would be a tattered cape like in the pictures, but that's just me. What ways if any would you use to improve this figure that has the potential to be a very popular collectible?

Okay, that's all. At least one is bound to be asked...I guess...  ;)

Why would it need to be corrected? It looks fine to me. Maybe it seems a little fat to you, but it needs to be a little larger to fit over the trooper's head.

Biggs doesn't have knee joints...  Whether a figure "needs" any articulation or not is a pretty pointless debate considering most of us played with 5 points of articulation on our SW figures back a while ago, but I think articulation's a good thing and it's disappointing Biggs doesn't have it.

The pictures of him out though are conclusive, as was the TOy Fair coverage.  He's kneeless.

The trooper helmet thing might get a question through Greco, I'm not sure.  Other sites are bound to ask it too though so we'll surely be weighing it against what else we have in the Q&A Vault to go with.

Over the last two weeks I have been seeing the first 30th AC wave all over the place.  While I have seen each figure in the wave least 7 times, I have yet to see the Concept Stormtrooper even once.

While I understand that this figure will show up in later cases, why, after 12 years of selling to very vocal and opinionated SW collectors, would you short pack a figure?

It does not create excitenment or buzz.  It creates frustration and bad will towards your comapny. Just to let you know, after I bought the 30th AC figures that I wanted, I have not spent any money on SW or other Hasbro product while searching for the Concept Stormtrooper.  In fact, I have actually spent money on other comapnies' products when coming up empty handed.

What kind of businesss model do you follow that suggests you make it hard for your costomers to obtain your product?

What were some of your biggest surprises for the 3 3/4 inch line? Both Good and Bad. For example; what figure or line did you take a lot of pride in and expect to be a big hit, but wound up being both a critical and commercial failure? On the other had, what was your biggest sleeper?

I'd like to know what Hasbro's procedure is for selecting figure assortments.  Since there seem to be pegwarmers in every wave and people complaining about not finding figs from POTF2 to TAC, seems like there is room for improvement.

Hasbro seems to have close ties to the online community...why not partner with some of these sites to run polls on how many of each upcoming figure people will buy?  Intended purchase research is conducted by every major manufacturer I've ever worked with - I don't get why Hasbro doesn't take advantage of this.  I'm sure the McQ stormtrooper would have outperformed rocket blast R2, which would have put McStormie in more people's hands and my local Target wouldn't have 8 R2's left on the pegs.

The one arguement I always hear back is that these sites only represent collectors and not kids.  I would bet that there are a LOT of kids coming to these sites as well, but even if this group is under represented, what other research does Hasbro have to show that kids prefer multiple Mace Windu's and Han's and Obi-Wans to EU characters, troop-builders, and new characters?  For that matter, what research do they have that shows the % of purchasing by collecors vs. kids?  My nephews love anything fett and anything that resembles a stormtrooper - they could care less about another Han with pilot gear on his head.

This seems pretty simple - I'd love to hear more about HAsbro's assortment selection system and why they haven't jumped at the free, possibly more accurate, research that the net affords them.

Since we are seeing the bantha Rereleased as part of a new battle pack I was wondering what the chances we'll see the Rancor make a return. While my reasons for wanting this are a little selfish (after many many years my Rancor was reasently killed in an incident involving my 3 kids and his attempts to fly, RIP Fluffy!!!) I'm sure that there are some other collectors out there who would love a new Rancor with updated paint apps and a couple fig's included for a new battlepack.

The Clonetrooper Evolutions weapons (DC-15a and DC-15s rifle and blaster) are very close to movie accurate, and I see that they are showing up with some of the TAC individually carded figures (ie Galactic Marine), I was wondering if Hasbro can make an accessory pack with large number of these weapons? I would love to arm my clones with these more movie-realistic versions. Is there any way to purchase these from you?

Hasbro has answered variations of this question a number of times over the last few months...  Examples:

What are the chances that Hasbro can make some type of accessory pack for clones... (JTA, 01/12/07)

An interesting thought, but lower on our priority list right now...

Has Hasbro considered a weapons pack of rifles and other assorted clone gear to help army builders? (JI, 01/26/07)

We have heard fans, and we are considering this for a future year.

Has Hasbro considered a clone trooper weapons pack with rifles... (RS, 3/02/07)

This is a good comment that we've heard from many different avenues, and we'll look at it.

To that, they would just give their same 'no Separatist leaders slated for 2007, we will be filling some of the alien slots with other characters' answer that they gave when someone else asked a question like that.

I think we need a Separatist WAVE. Holographic Rune, Holo nute, ROTS Rune, ROTS Nute, Po Nudo, Tikkes, Toonbuck Toora, and some kind of Sun Fac rehash. THAT would be cool!  8)

Is there any chance that we could see a 'rontu' themed battle pack similar to the TRU exclusive with the bantha? You could re-release the POTF2 Rontu, its original rider, a couple of those gorgeous Jawas that are being released in a few weeks, and perhaps some scurriers or womp rats just to throw in at least one new sculpt. And the, you'd be all set! I'd buy it. Please!

Is there any chance you could make the landspeeder that was in the Lars garage in ANH (well, and some brand new Lars sculpts to go with it?)?
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

Is there any chance you could make the landspeeder that was in the Lars garage in ANH

The Lars Family Landspeeder question popped up in March-07...

For the SW 30 year Anniversary, any thoughts of making more cut-scene figures like the Biggs, such as Fixer, Cammie or Tank? What about small scale vehicles to go along with these, such as Fixer's or the Lars landspeeder? (JTA, 3/30/07) (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3004)

There won't be any more cut scene figures in the 30th line, but we are considering these for future (post-30th) possibilities and weighing them against other EU-type concepts we see as important in doing. There is a probably a good chance (it may take a few years though) that all of the characters you mentioned will make it to the shelves. However, it's unlikely that we'll ever do the Lars landspeeder given the complexity and tooling required for vehicles and the relatively unknown status of that one compared with other vehicle possibilities.

I've heard more than a few responses from Hasbro discussing "other vehicle possibilities" when folks ask about various ships.  Any chance they can give us some more information on what those other possibilities might be?

This may have been asked already, but would appreciate any answers that I may have missed: What are the chances for more playsets in the near future?  Specifically, any chance of ever having interlocking death star rooms/hallways to build your own playset?  Can you imagine the sales on a "playset module," maybe with a stormtrooper in each pack?!  :o

A few weeks ago, the first wave of 30th AC figures were in every store that I went to.  I bought them up and eagerly awated Wave 2.  Then the pegs in the stores started to fill up again, but with the last two waves of SAGA!  I have all of the Saga figures, as do most collectors.  At this point, the Saga figures are just not selling as fast as the 30th AC figures did, and I'm worried that retailers will again think that "Star Wars does not sell", and start ordering less 30th AC stuff.

It's really sad that here we are in the 30 th Anniversary month and there is no new product

Though I'd love that there's no way Hasbro would ever do that. That would be pegwarmer central.

Will we ever see EU versions of the main characters (Han, Luke*, Leia, Lando,Wedge,etc..) from post-ROTJ era? Or will you just stick to movie versions?

- Over the past year we've gotten several figures with removeable helmets, including Stormtroopers. Are removeable helmets going to become a standard for the Star Wars line from now on?

- This year we're getting new, super articulated versions of Bossk and IG-88 in the Vintage line, a re-release of the VOTC Boba Fett in the Saga legends line, and a new version of 4-LOM in the Basic line. This leaves us with Dengar and Zuckuss as the only two Bounty Hunters left who do not have toys up to par with their counterparts. It's been 3 years since the latest version of Dengar came out and almost 10 since the last Zuckuss was released. Is there any chance we'll get a new Dengar and Zuckuss in 2008 to go along with the other super articulated bounty hunters?

- Are there any plans for Comic Packs based on the Shadows of the Empire comics?

Those are great questions. The only thing I would add is I would mention a new Xizor and Guri in the question about SOTE.

My question:
What influenced your decision to repack ROTS #2: Anakin Skywalker in the Saga Legends line rather than the far superior Evolutions Anakin?

- Are there any plans for Comic Packs based on the Shadows of the Empire comics?

Take a look back through the Q&A archive and you will see that they have hinted the answer is maybe... not in '07, but possibly '08.

From Hasbro...
- Possibly, but our preference would be to go back and re-do (with current sculpting/articulation) some of those original Shadows figures first.
- ([Bothan] Koth [Melan] is a good one if we ever do more Shadows of the Empire figures).

Hasbro has said that it was simply a matter of which molds were available at the factory that the Legends figures were being made.  Whether you buy that excuse or not is separate issue. ;)

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE HOOD-UP HEADSCULPT THAT LUCASFILM DIDN'T APPROVE?

From Hasbro:
Lucasfilm did not think the aesthetics of the hood-up head sculpt were right for the product, so they asked us to pull it out. Given that it was too late to resculpt the accessory, we pulled it from the product rather than rework it and delay Vintage more than it had already been delayed.

Basically, LFL thought that it just wasn't "right" for this vintage figure.  Hasbro has hinted at times (like C-IV) that we may see that head (or something very similar) in a future re-release of the figure eventually.

I'm jonesing for any info about this line and if we could bleed some info out of them that would rock. . .

Based on the LEGO sets and some of the other info leaking so far, it is very likely that the Indy line will include stuff from all 4 movies and not just the latest one.  We'll have more info and confirmation at SDCC I'm sure...

Don't know if the question is asked or not, but with succesfully bringing out the V-wing fighter ( very glad to have one :) ),there is a case of when is the special pilot coming out?

Last time someone asked about that was back in December... the answer then was no:

we do not have a V-Wing pilot slated to go with the V-Wing as of this time.  Eventually, it will be a figure we'll do but we do not have a timetable.  Patience on that one.

So, much like everything lately it's an "eventually" answer.

Q1: The Alpha arctrooper that comes in the comic 2-pack is amazing and I hope Hasbro continues to use this mold for future arctrooper releases (well, a softgoods kama would be nice!)  But I noticed many who complain, including myself, that the head always pops off whenever you try to remove his helmet and basically gets stuck inside there.

While Hasbro has done a great job on many removable helmet figures (the Stormtroopers, eps3 clones, DS Gunner) it does seem like the eps2 clone helmet often has problems (e.g. the Evolutions clone pilot head is too big for the helmet, and warps the helmet whenever he wears it). Maybe instead of doing removable helmets here, why not have a swappable head instead?  One head is the helmet, the other head would be the Jango head.

Q2:  Why is it that some of your figures lately have had ridiculously wide spread legs?  We've seen this with the TAC Rebel Honor Guard, DS Trooper, VTAC Endor Leia, VTAC Snowtrooper, almost all of the Concept McQuarrie figures(!!!!) and now some of the upcoming comic 2pack figures like the Infinities Leia and Vader.  I don't understand what would prompt  Hasbro to design figures whose legs are spread so far apart almost like they were trying to do the splits. Please please just give us neutral leg stances (a wide stance should only be as wide as say the VTSC Biker Scout or RotS #41 Clonetrooper) -- I honestly have avoided buying figures like the DS Trooper (which I otherwise would army build like crazy) because of their unsatisfactory poses.

a question that I and many other Canadian collectors would probably want answered...

Hasbro how many waves is Canadian retail (as in TRU, WM, and Zellers) going to be selling. it is already half way into the year and we have only seen two waves. with all these new figures and vehicles and such being shown at Comic con (which look really great) it seems very unlikely that Canada will see even half of the stuff.
over the years Canada has always been ripped off with the last few waves and exclusives heck even most Battle packs. i don't understand why you guys seem to think the Canadian market is non existant. which is why i ask you, what makes you think that there isn't a fan base in Canada for the figures and what will you guys do to try and help us out. it is very, well annoying to have to keep going over the border to get the figures i need. and I'm sure i am not the only one out there that feels this way.

The accurate Commander Gree resculpt in next year's Wave 1 is an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Now that Gree has been redone, is there a chance we could see a new Commander Bacara? He is probably the clone most in need of a resculpt at this point, for his quick-draw attack feature limited his poseability and sculpt. I would be all over a resculpt to lead the new Galactic Marines (which are great by the way) into battle! Please consder this.

alright so maybe my last question was, well Little harsh and more of a rant. But this is an idea i have had for a while:

Have you guys ever thought of releasing a novel and figure two pack. Pretty much the same as the comic pack only of course of novels. The two figures could of course be two main characters and such. This kinda pack could also prove to be more parent friendly because instead of seeing a "picture book" they would be seeing something that their child could read and help their imagination grow. And this can also help kids get into some of the better book series. Of course the only way to not ruin the series would be to only release the first book or a book with out any sequels to it. Just a thought.

Dear Hasbro,

I love what you've done with Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers. All the articulation you can ask for (well, except for Commander Baccura/Commander Cody). I have several shelves in my home dedicated to Clones and their Jedi Generals. As well as Stormtroopers snapped at attention for Darth Vader and the Emperor.

So don't you think it's time you start putting a little more attention on our rebel freinds? I'd love to have a squad of Rebel Commandos that could stand at attention for General Madine or crouch behind fallen logs. I'd love to have Hoth Soldiers who could toss a grenade, crawl on their belly in a sniper position, or look through a pair of macrobinoculars.

For years now we've been able to put our Clones/Storms in most any position we'd like.....so please give us the same option for our beloved Rebels.....please

1. With a mix bagged response to the 2007 Han Bespin included with the Torture rack, will we get a regular Han Bespin in 2008? He is way overdue for a good SA version such an iconic outfit.

2. With the new CW show coming in the fall and most likely a strong product platform supporting it can we expect first few waves of 08 figures be more OTC based since will will be getting prequel overload at that time? Wave 1 is is ROTS based but will waves 2-5 be more OTC focused.

3. Bespin has such excellent characters like Bespin Guards, Ugnaughts, Lieutenant Sheckil, White IG-88 Willrow hood & that loser Klingon wannabe Utris M'Toc. Will we see any characters from cloud city with new or partial new sculpts this year?

The one question I keep wanting asked is:
1) Does Hasbro have any plans to move away from themed waves for future assortments?  I loved in the mid-to-late 90's when a given wave would cover all 3 OT films and various scenes from within those.  It would be nice to get a wave with, say, Admiral Ackbar, Hoth Rebel Trooper, Bespin Guard, and a rebel pilot or cantina denizen all in the same wave.

Bounty hunters have gotten some great figures over the past two years. VTAC IG-88, Bossk, Legends Boba Fett, and the upcoming 4-LOM and Evolution Jango are all excellent. But one bounty hunter who has really been ignored since 2002 is Zam Wessell, and her previous two sculpts are really not up to date. Is there any chance this important character with a large speaking role and a lot of screen time in AOTC will ever get the SA treatment? Maybe with an assassin droid, pistol, projectile rifle, and removable helmet with veil?

Are there any plans to fix the ROTS #41 clone troopers hip joints? I have noticed with all the ones i have, repaints and all, it is really hard to make them pose into a sitting stance because the armor is made to thick in that area. Will this ever be fixed? the New Gree figure (from pictures) seems to have this problem fixed but it is after all just a picture.

Have you considered a training remote accessory? The way to make it work (as discussed among the community years ago) would be to allow it to clip to a lightsaber blade via a laserbolt, as if the shot is being deflected.

This one should be pretty high on the "iconic accessories not yet tackled" list guys!

After many years of requests, there's finally a lot of happy collectors out there who are finding all the armybuilders they could ever want. Thank you. In fact, some army builders are now "warming" the pegs. From your perspective, how is the increase in troop production being received? Are you seeing a favorable return in your investment or are you beginning to see a backlog of product that might alter you current course of action?

Will there be any more Ultimate Battle Packs besides the two we're getting?

I would really appreciate you guys asking this question for me.

Will Canada be getting any figures from the TAC line past wave 5 or have we seen it all up North. One of the  sites said they would not be getting wave 6 on CDN card, so does that also mean we wont be getting anything past wave 6 at Canadian retail?

Can we expect a re-release of the larger winged Tie Fighter anytime soon?  And if so, are there any chance of it not being an exclusive?  If not, it would seem more likely that it could be more reasonably priced around $24.99 - $29.99.

I absolutely LOVE the Astromech droids with the ratchet heads that raise and lower the third leg. These have been around for a few years now and there are about a dozen different varieties now, but there isn't a single R2-D2 with a normal paint job with this body. We've got flame glow R2-D2 and comic book R2-D2 from this design, but I was disappointed when Endor Artoo turned out to be an older mold. Is a normal deco, ratchet head Artoo-Deetoo on his way anytime soon?

Every year you seem to amaze us with some figures and when pcitures of the new Commander Gree hit the net we saw that you decided to add not only ball hinged hips but wrists aswell. Although the figure is not yet on shelves it looks like it will outmatch all clone trooper figures in terms of poses. The question is however do you plan on adding this type of articulation to all other types of clonetroopers and or stormtroopers in the near future?

Thanks!

- The JD News Team
Dear Hasbro ,
I want to thank you for the wonderful sculpt of ewok warriors Graak and Romba. It's now possible to make diorama of battle of Endor with little furry warriors ! I hope that you will make other ewok warriors quickly... Is there a possibility in near future to see never-made-before ewok warriors like Rabin, Leektar, Wuta, Kazak ... with other weapons like sling, bolas and rock... and above all : a new catapult !!   Thank tou

Where does Star Wars stand in the Hasbro collection of toys?  Is it THE top seller or is it in the middle of the pack or somewhere down the line?  We all like to think of it as critically important to retailers, but does My Little Pony kick it in the backside in terms of sales?

The 2007 annual report hasn't been published, but here's how things shaped up in 2006...  (from Hasbro's 2006 Annual Report to stockholders):

"STAR WARS was the #1 property in the boys' business for the second year running and continues to demonstrate its long term viability.  Revenue for the entire STAR WARS line was $285 Million in 2006, compared to $494 million in 2005, showing that an entertainment brand layered with new innovation can perform significantly in the year following the movie."

A few things on 2005:

- yes, Hasbro had half a billion dollars in Star Wars sales in 2005   :o

- that $494 million in sales in 2005 produced approximately 16% of the net revenue for Hasbro in 2005.  No other product line even came close to generating even 10% of the net revenue.

Of course that was 2005, which was a movie year.  In 2006:

- In the 2006 annual report, they say that no single line of toys accounted for 10% of the net revenue, but if you do the math for Star Wars, it works out to about 9% of their business in 2006.  No other single line of products they have comes close to that.

- In 2006, "boys toys" generated $576 million in revenue.  That means that the $285 generated by Star Wars was half of the "boys toys" sector revenue.  So in 2006, Star Wars did better then everything else in "boys toys" (GI Joe, TFers, etc) combined.

- In 2006, "girls toys" generated $530 million in revenue, but nothing comes close to Star Wars type numbers.

- In 2006, the "board games" sector generated $1.294 billion in revenue.  So, while Star Wars (and boys toys in general) are important to Hasbro ("boys toys" ranks second), the biggest part of Hasbro's business overall is still the board games.

So, there's a brief glimpse at the past 2 years.

The 2007 annual report should be out by the end of the month, so then we'll have a better idea of how the 30AC stuff did for Hasbro.  It should be interesting to see if/how Marvel and TFers movie stuff affected Star Wars sales...

What are the chances of seeing the Moisture Vaporator reappear as a different figure's pack-in, if not in 2008 then in 2009/10? I'm thinking Owen, Beru, Lars family Power Droid, Mos Eisley citizen...I would be more than happy to buy them all if they came with another Vaporator.

Please keep this great accessory in mind when planning future Tatooine waves, as many would love to have more than one, even if we only needed one wind-swept Luke Skywalker.
Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

Thanks for the answer Hasbro Jeff, interesting information.  Truthfully I'm surprised by the fact that Star Wars is indeed #1 (2006) outside of a movie year.  I thought other properties would be, but perhaps that will be the case for 2007 with the movies you mentioned.

I'd honestly thought that girls toys might be accounting for more, but I think the really hot properties in girls toys are all Mattel lines, so that would explain it.  Polly Pockets/Bratz/Barbie still rule the shelves that way and My Little Pony really doesn't cover off that much.

And will BOD format be standard for all future droid releases?   for say will the next R2-D2 or C3-PO be take apart and mixed and matched with the BOD parts to create new figures or will the parts be limited to just the BOD packins?

But, you're not expecting us to believe 2008 is going to come and go without a GH Ahsoka, are you?  Should we be expecting more GH news in the near future?  Maybe a long shot, but any chance an Asajj Ventress might be involved?

Over the previous year, I've come across many TAC carded figures where the coin was missing. These where mostly UGH gold coins but I've seen silver ones missing too. Today, I've come across five battle packs where 2-3 figurers where missing. Sometimes I even find battlepacks or carded figures with other older figures put in instead. Since the stores will take back anything without looking at the box, what steps are being taken to reduce this kind of theft?

Big fan of Star War vehicles and I love that fact that you finally brought the Hyperspace Ring to life.  Obviously we all know that you love to repaint everything and we've got a growing fleet of Jedi Starfighters that need their respective rings.  It was painful shelling out $35 at TRU for a ship that I already own just to get the ring.  What are your plans for bringing other rings to life?  Any plans on beefing up the "stand" that you included for the ring to rest on for future releases?  Surely you can't expect us to rebuy every ship over again just for the ring though.

Do you really think the pop-up dioramas got a fair shot at retail success? The 2 made barely made it on the shelf in 1998, before the big movie build-up and after most of the rest of the line got cancelled. They would just as easily fit the spot occupied on the shelf by the Evolutions line this year, for virtually no tooling cost.

Even ten years later the Cantina and Jabba's Palace are both considered essential items in a modern collection. With the Death Star, Cloud City, Ewok Village, Trade Federation Bridge, Outlander Nightclub, and Invisible Hand backdrops you might have a huge hit on your hands. Let's give them another try, with a pack-in army-builder figure for incentive, and see what happens.

You've recently said that you can't figure out how to get a new Jabba on the shelves...
would you ever consider releasing items in the 20.00 Starfighter Assortment that weren't vehicles?  Jabba and a Throne would make a great toy, as would say, a Hoth Turret/Radar Lasar Cannon type set.

I think that the 20.00 price range could be very usefull for the the sorts of small scale action environments that many collectors are asking for.

Questions for Hasbro? - Session 44 (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1198275234,32904,):

3. OK, Indy toys. What are we looking at for the launch? Are we talking a "street date" with a big push, including store exclusives (similar to the last few movie lines you’ve done)? If so, any idea what that date will be so we can mark it on our calendars to be sure we have the day off work?

**There will be a tight on-shelf date for the IJ product line, which will be a few weeks before the movie (the theaterical date is 5/22). We can confirm that there will *not* be any store exclusives at the movie launch for IJ... we are focusing on the mainline assortments. The complete lineup will be announced (along with the on-shelf date) at Toy Fair.

The date (May 1st) was confirmed at Toy Fair (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/TF2008/Hasbro/IJpresentation/image2.asp) as well.

I like this question and think it would work, the 20.00 price point could work for things other than vehicles like you mention.

Anyway, here is my question.

If sales for the AT-TE reach expectations or exceed them, will you continue to consider other large scale vehicles such as Jabba's Sail Barge as well as revisit vehicles like the Sandcrawler which is underscaled?

EDIT-------

They kind of answered this with this weeks questions so i dont know if it needs to be asked again.

Thanks Jeff.  I had read that, but I was just asking because unless there's an even like Midnight Madness, it seems like stors don't stick too tightly to street dates.

Here's another INDY question...it looks like the single carded German Soldier, and the two-to-a-pack Deluxe German Soldiers are the exact same figures with a bit of of a deco change and a new head.  This is an excellent way to do army builders! however, why buy one if you can get two for a few dollars more, and would you ever consider this with Star Wars?

You recently stated that the CW Obi-Wan does not have articulated knees, while it seems that Rex and the nameless clone do have articulated knees.  Since all three charcters are wearing the same armour, isn't more cost effective to have one sculpt for all sets of legs?

Also, Obi-Wan will be one of the main characters that kids buy.  If they get him, and are dissapointed by lack of playability, couldn't that lessen their enthusiasm for the other figs?  It seems risky to have the a main character with less than standard articulation.

Dear Hasbro,
What gives on the basic Indiana Jones figures paint applications?  The figures are well done sculpt-wise and for the most part are extremely detailed, well accessorized and generally well done with the exception of the eyes.

No offense, but the basic Indiana Jones figure (ROTLA) with jacket and the whip-cracking action Indy are both suffering from really serious cases of googly eyes.  Their pupils are three times as large as they should be and cross eyed to boot.  I checked all I could find, not one is worthy of purchasing.  I didn't notice this problem with any of the deluxe Indiana Jones figures or other characters except a couple of Marion Ravenwood figures, but I could find satisfactory paint applications for her figure.

So can we expect this to be corrected in further assortments down the line?  Am I safe leaving these to the kids to buy who are a little less discerning about those details?  Or am I plain out of luck on those figures because the eyes are bad enough I'm not buying?

Any update on the Force Unleashed Jungle Rancor, which we were expecting to see showing up at Target in April? Has it been pushed back to come out closer to the release of the game?

Now that the new Clone Wars series is on its way with its own action figure line, how much attention will be paid to unmade characters from the older cartoon series in the future? K'Kruhk, Tarr Sierr, Sha'a Gi, the Nelvaans, and maybe even some of the characters from the Rattatak battle arena scene would all be good candidates for release. Also, speaking of the older Clone Wars series, will we be seeing the Clone Wars-themed Legacy wave on shelves on July 26th, or will they be coming out at a later time?

cloen wars line? must have missed that one, who was in it?

and you suriouseli dout dey wood make a camo arc? dey mad a camo baccara...they are already haf way der.. ::)

My questions for Hasbro are.
1. Will we ever see the new Clone Wars figures redone in a realistic style?
2. Are any battle packs Planned for the Indiana Jones Line?
3. Does Hasbro Still hold the Battlestar Galactica Licence? Is/was there ever a chance we would see a 3 3/4 inch Line?

I have a question about actually finding figures at retailers. About once a week, I go to the nearest Target, Walmart, or Toys R Us, but I can never find any recent figures that have come out. Is this due to delays or are particular stores around the country just not recieving stock?

I would like to ask hasbro about mighty muggs variants. I am close to having all currently released star wars mighty muggs, but I am confused about the vader and stormtrooper variants. Do they even exist? If so, what characterizes them as variants compared to the non-variant?

For Hasbro:

What are the chances we'll see a German Mechanic in 2009? Seeing as he is a vintage figure that still has yet to be made, and as his scene in Raiders is one of the series most iconic, is there a good chance we'll see this burly young sport hit the pegs?

Re: German Mechanic

Do you plan to complete the vintage line of Indiana Jones figures? Meaning, can we hope for modern versions of Toht, German Mechanic, Marion in dress, Indy in German uniform, and Belloq in white suit? (CTR, 05/09/08) (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/story/front/Hasbros_STAR_WARS_INDIANA_JONES_QA_The_Answers_114508.asp)

As the IJ line continues on, we defintely have plans for versions of all of those iconic supporting characters in the line. At least three of those are planned for early 2009.

Ahem...

3. Does Hasbro Still hold the Battlestar Galactica Licence? Is/was there ever a chance we would see a 3 3/4 inch Line?

It was not part of the Q&A, but Hasbro's license for BSG expires at the end of the year, unless they renew it.  There are still no plans for 3.75" figures...  not this year anyway.

Ahem...

Your question is in the hopper, but it takes time to get to everything we want to ask in a timely manner... patience!

- The Indy with Horse is my favorite piece from the Deluxe Indy line, mostly due to the awesome Horse. The articulation rocks! Are there any plans to redo any Star Wars beasts with similar articulation, such as a Tauntaun?

- Hover Trains have played a vital role in some levels in Star Wars video games such as Rogue Squadron and Jedi Outcast. Do you think we'll ever see a Hover Train vehicle before the Star Wars license ends?

- Remember those Disney exclusive Star Tours figures from 2002-2004? Have there been any discussions about repaints or reissues of any of the droid sculpts into the basic line?

- Which vehicle would you rather see re-made first with appropriate scale ala the new Falcon: AT-ST, AT-AT, Slave I, or the Imperial Shuttle?

- Back in 2000 LEGO released a few Star Wars multipacks of their minifigures exclusive to their website. These sets were recieved well by LEGO collectors because some people were be able to get certain minifigs of Star Wars characters without having to spend $50 on a huge LEGO set. The rumor is that Hasbro put an end to these sets because it was too similar to LEGO selling action figures. Is this true? Care to shed any light about the situation?

Someone asked something similar two weeks ago... (not sure where it was asked, but it's on the Hasbro Site (http://hasbro.com/starwars/default.cfm?page=news&newsid=36635AB0-D56F-E112-431EDB459BA03434)):

Q. The "super articulated" Horse from the Indiana Jones deluxe line is way cool. Any chance of you taking that step into the SW Universe and giving us a REALLY COOL SA Tauntaun?

A. Now that's an interesting idea we honestly had not been thinking about.  We'll pass it around the team and see what they think.  We will confirm there are some other beasts we are looking at updating first….so if we get to an SA Tauntaun, it may be a little while.  Thanks for the suggestion.

A unique situation is about to happen in San Diego on July 26th. The day that officially launches the legacy and animated clone wars lines happens to occur during the biggest annual collector gathering in the world - Comic-Con. I can envision every retailer that carries Hasbro Star Wars products in the San Diego area being besieged that Saturday morning with the unusually high concentration of Star Wars collectors and comic-con vendors alike, potentially causing a great deal of drama. Was Comic-Con taken into consideration when deciding upon the launch date? Are there any plans to work with local retailers to deal with this unique situation? Will there be enough product to accommodate the unusually high number of collectors and vendors and are there any plans to rigorously prevent vendors from buying out a store down the street from the convention center only to mark up the price at a booth a hundred feet away from yours?

Many vintage fans have their own ideas as to which figures have yet to be updated. For example, some count characters like POTJ's Bespin Guard and Saga's Imperial Dignitaries as upgrades, while others don't since the latest offerings don't match the character on the vintage cards. Some fans don't count figures that never appeared on card, like Paploo. Others think we'll never get characters that satisfy the Rebel Commander or Imperial Commander vintage figures. What does Hasbro's vintage figures "yet to be updated" list look like in the context of these broad strokes?

It seems that the days for the Indiana Jones line are dwindling since you have mentioned that planned products are no longer being considered. Would you consider altering the line to be an online exclusive much like what is being done for Mattel's collector driven Masters of the Universe line?

Would you consider altering the line to be an online exclusive

From The Private Universe (08/16/08) (http://www.theprivateuniverse.co.uk/cgi-bin/showarticle.pl?section=news&articleid=3348):

Q1. If retail stores down the line decide to discontinue ordering Indiana Jones Figures, what would the chances be of Hasbro continuing to offer new Indiana Jones figures through various On line stores, such as Hasbro Toy Shop, Entertainment Earth, etc?

A1. Thanks for the good word. The production volumes needed to get a new wave of figures produced is much larger than the online channel can support by itself, this is primarily a collector-targeted channel. The ability to continue to bring IJ figures to market depends on the continual support of the top retailers, along with a strong base of kid support for the IJ fantasy.

Hasbro has shown a lot of love for the Battlefront 2 video game.  In the past year we got the Clone and Droid multipacks, the Rebel Vanguard trooper, Stormtroopers, Scout Troopers, (although overscaled to the game) Darktrooper and some reports have indicated the repainted Death Star Gunner (as the Imperial Engineer) is already in stores.  When will Hasbro release some of the remaining characters?

-A head-swap with the Saga Collection General Veers would make a nice Imperial Officer
-ROTS Tarrful could be adapted to be the Wookie Warrier
-A clean Sandtrooper w/ Orange Pauldron and rocket launcher makes the Shocktrooper
-The German soldiers from the Indy line could be adapted to be the Rebel Smuggler
-Resculpted, super-articulated Fleet trooper

Hasbro.  From pictures coming out on a variety of sites, it appears that the Jango Fett from the Fett Legacy Evolutions set is being re-released in the Saga Legends line once the new style cardbacks come out.  The jumpsuit is noticably more purple than the detail on the helmet or how Jango appears in Attack of the Clones.  Do you have the ability to have the factory revise the color paint they use to more closely match the "accepted" color of Jango's jumpsuit as seen on the Jango figure from the Saga Collection released in 2006?

I recently saw the new 3 3/4 Marvel and Wolverine figures in the store, and noticed that the card backs are smaller than the SW cards.  Is there any chance that with today's economic troubles, and the awareness of ecological concerns, that the SW cards could get smaller?  I know that I would personally like a smaller package, as I am disgusted by the amount of trash each figure now generates.  BTW, the Marvel stuff (figures and packaging) look great.

In the previous Q&A, you mentioned several figures that were off limits (ET, Tyvokka, Holiday Special). Are characters from the Ewoks movies available to be made, and what are the chances these characters are visited. Its been way too long without Teek and Cindel Towani.

Also, why is Tyvokka offlimits...seems like an odd one to be on the list?

Now that the Scramble on Yavin Battle Pack is hitting the stores, can you explain why the Garven Dreis body differs from the one pictured on the back of the package? Speaking as a collector, I'm slight disappointed. While the body utilized in the final product, "vintage" X-Wing Luke's, is exceptional and perfect for that character's stature, it seems too short to use for most of the other pilots. The body pictured on the back of the package, Nrin Vakil's, would have been perfect.

Throughout the past few years, there has been a good effort towards getting "ultimate" versions of the main characters from the Saga made, whether it was in the "vintage" lines, Evolutions, or even the basic figure assortment (with a few Obi-Wans coming out this year alone).  The list seems to be getting shorter all the time, but what are the chances we might see more of the remaining figures done soon - such as Bespin Han Solo, Hoth Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard), or even an all-new Jar Jar Binks?

This is an excellent call.  She sold fairy briskly then, too, iirc.

Hasbro, I know that one of the factors that differentiates the price point on Star Wars figures is that a portion of the price is to cover the licensing costs associated with Lucas Films (LF) owning the intellectual property, as opposd to other toy lines that Hasbro owns.  But in addition to this cost factor, I'd assume your development teams need to get your own internal approval of designs, as well as the approval of LF.  How much additional time does this add to the total production cycle (taking an idea from your "parking lot" all the way through to loading it on the boat in China)?

Dear Hasbro,

I have become totally addicted to the Droid Factory line - it's absolutely brilliant!  Will we eventually see a return of the R4 unit?  There is one with black stripes in the hangar at Echobase, and one with a dome similar to R4-A22, but with silver, blue, and black patterns all over its body that was in Attack of the Clones.  These two would make perfect BADs.

Rebel Troopers are the army builders that the Legacy Line has been lacking the most. It is unfortunate that there has been no word of releasing the most elite division of Rebel Special Forces, the Space Ops Rebel Marines. Only featured in Star Wars: Rebellion, a figure pack has been released with Luke and Deena wearing similar versions of the body armor, albeit without helmets. Are there any plans to release a faceless Rebel Marine figure with his helmet? CT-1707 "Able" wearing this armor would also be a nice alternative.

QUESTION>>>

Now that the Clone Wars line is a great success, is there any chance that you will add animated style OT figures into the mix? (Gentle Giant has set a precedent with their statues.) I would love to see a nicely designed Vader, Luke or Solo.  All you would have to do is have a "Classic Character" label on the card, and I'm sure they'd sell briskly.

Hasbro,
Why have the original Rebo band members, as well as the cantina band members, never been released individually? They are all in major need of an upgrade. They seem like they are popular enough characters, so any chance that you could be making some new versions of these guys in the near future? An original Sy Snootles would be really nice too!

Hey Hasbro, Celeste Morne was the star of Star Wars: Vector. She played such an influential role, and, as such, she deserves the action figure treatment. But when? A Comic Pack (featuring any of the Vector Comics) would be nice! She could be packed in with either Darth Vader, a Rakghoul, or even Karness Muur himself! This is even a great oppurtunity for a new KOTOR Zayne Carrick! For Celeste, super articulation would be key, and a removable Muur Talisman would be neccessary.

Dear Hasbro,
so far imperial officer figures suffered either from lack of articulation (General Veers) or awkward Death Star Trooper legs (Captain Needa). When do we finally get a completely new SA imperial officer? A really good body sculpt with a replaceable rank badge could be used over and over again to produce ultimate versions of much demanded characters like Admiral Piett, Captain Lennox, Grand Moff Tarkin, Admiral Pallaeon, Commander Praji or Lieutenant Sheckil.

I asked a similar question (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=4625) a couple weeks ago. Here's what they had to say:

Quote
Q3: Now that we've received pretty much the ultimate Imperial officer sculpt in Captain Needa, can we expect an updated A New Hope version of Grand Moff Tarkin (or other officers) in the not to distant future?

A3: Perhaps not as quickly as you'd like, but we do have plans to utilize this body for future officer releases and upgrades.  Tarkin would certainly be high on the list of those we'd like to see updated.

Sounds like the body's going to be kind of like the TIE Fighter.  They got the torso down now, so they gotta work on legs, arms, etc.  :)  Though I think that the arms are alright.  Legs are about all that needs fixed unless you count the "skirt" needing to have a slit for sitting, or to be cloth all together.

Hey Hasbro, with the foreknowledge that the Build-A-Droid pack-in concept will eventually end and the fact that the Evolutions line is retiring, have you considered combining both, using existing tooling, for a new line in the future? Do you think kids and collectors would be interested in a 3 pack of astromechs (one perhaps being R2-D2 that you could take apart) with additional domes and rocket legs that can be swapped, or a set of uniquely painted protocol droids, or perhaps another set with repaints of the aggressive droids, all with parts than can be swapped to make unique figures?  Darth Gamboa

Recently you stated that the comic packs had dwindled in sales . I would just like to tag onto this one.  I LOVE the comic pack figs and have bought multiples of each.  My issue is that it's impossible to track down the new ones.  I have seen empty pegs and/or repacks in most locations - before killing this line I'd like to hear your thoughts on modifying the assortments.  Maybe even moving to a 6-item case pack to allocate 2x of each new item pack and drop the re-packs.  Thanks!

Dear Hasbro,
We are in desperate need of new rebel officers and troops. While Clone Troopers, Stormtroopers and Droids are certainly more popular with the mass market, other army building figures like the Hoh Rebel Trooper or the Rebel Vanguard Trooper are selling extremely well, too.
So here’s my three part question:

When are we finally getting the SA Rebel Fleet Trooper and the Endor Commando?

What happened to the Rebel Officer (based on the Rebel Honor Guard sculpt) which was slated for the 2009 Legacy line? Will he be released in 2010?

Also there have been consistent rumors that there will be a new General Lando Calrissian figure within the next few years. Are we talking a retooling of the OTC version or (hopefully) a completely new SA sculpt?

Thanks.

Hasbro,
Since troopers always seem to be popular, I'm wondering if some of the older but unique troopers from the EU like the Clone Assassin (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Clone_assassin), Shadows of the Empire Coruscant Guard (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Coruscantguard.jpg), and the cool looking white TIE Fighter Pilot (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:White_TIE_Pilot.jpg) still have a chance at being made in action figure form, or would the age of the source materials and tooling costs prove too much of an obstacle? Armored troopers usually seem like a can't miss, so I hope these guys can still warrant some consideration!

Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Pete_Fett on December 31, 2009, 04:27 PM
Three questions I wouldn't mind seeing answered...

1) Do you think the WalMart Droid Factory 2-pack line would have done better if instead of offering older inferior product (2005 ROTS Grievous, 1999 Sith Speeder Maul, etc...) you had essentially treated them like a wave of Legacy Collection figures with more than just three new-ish sculpts?

2) Have you ever considered the fact that your line problems might be caused by rising prices of product? With the loss of the B-A-D parts, will you be dropping the price of the line with the packaging change in August 2010? With your ever-increasing inclusion of the SAME spring-loaded weapons (or in some figures no large accessory at all) how can you continue to justify the Clone Wars line costing the same as the Legacy Collection?

3) Over the past three years you seem to be re-releasing/re-painting/re-packing items with greater frequency. Why should it come as a surprise then at some collectors would pass on offerings like the over-priced WalMart Droid Factory 2-packs and wait for a future re-release of the Dark Trooper (the primary reason anyone would buy these sets in the first place)? And please don't just answer this question with "we have no plans to re-release the Dark Trooper at this time" - in 2007 you told us that the only way we'd ever get the McQuarrie figures was to pick up the individually carded releases, and by 2009 you had them all re-released in box sets. So to say that the Dark Trooper is not currently planned on being re-released is just shortsighted - there's no way you're not going to try to find a way to maximize your ROI on the tooling costs of this over-sized Build-a-Droid. It may not be 2010, it may not be 2011, but perhaps the world really is going to end, if by 2012, you haven't figured out a way to re-release the Dark Trooper.

I know we have to play nicey-nice with Hasbro, so I don't have an expectations of them ever being used, but it was therapeutic just to type them out....

just a few comments here

(1) I understand that most packaging is aimed at the latest style and that kids are most likely a big target demographic but i would like to see a carded style of black and green similar to the old Return of the Jedi line but revamped.

(2) I would also like to see more care taken in the packaging of action figures only because some action figures especially clonewars figures have thin legs and they are all out of shape.

(3) I would like to commed hasbro on your latest packing techniques for the Turbo Tank, Droid Star Fighter and the AT-TE.

(4) And just an idea consider opening hasbro shops like 1 per city (including Australia). A place where people can go and shop for hasbro products and they are never out of stock and if they are a stock transfer can be arranged and every time you go home happy with bags full of products.
That's the dream!

Dear Hasbro,

I started collecting Star Wars when I took my 3 year old son (now 6) to go see ROTS at the dollar theater (I wasn't sure how well he would do since it was his first theater experience).  Well, not only did he love the movie but he also loved the toys he saw on the store shelves.  So I started collecting for my son while reliving my childhood through him during the Saga 2006 line.  Since that time I have really closed the gap on obtaining definitive versions of almost all characters that have been made since POTF2 for my son to play with and have in our collection.  One of the very few characters I haven't felt compelled to purchase in the after market yet is Aurra Sing - all of her current releases have very little articulation.  My question to you is how far down your list is a new, super articulated, Aurra Sing in a realistic format?

The head sculpt and rank badge of the new AT-AT Commander suggests that this figure is supposed to be a generic imperial officer. Why did you choose to go for an off-screen character instead of producing the much demanded super articulated General Veers? Do you have any plans to redo Veers in the next few years?
Also while the new AT-AT Commander figure itself looks damn good the chest armor doesn’t seem to be bluish enough. Will this be corrected before the release?

The figures and cards shown at Toy Fair look fantastic!  However, Dak was the only figure that has never come out on a card and could be considered "New."  Will the Vintage line contain any previously unmade charcaters, or is it going to be made up of repaints, retools and (very well made) resculpts?

I have been a complete carded collector since the introduction of the POTF2 wave.  Along with many others, I'm very excited about the vintage line coming our way later in the year.  I'm curious to know if you have ever given consideration to selling some kind of collector boxes for those of us who keep our figures carded.  Not talking about individual carded figs, but rather something that would help store and/or display larger numbers of carded figures (12, 20, 24, etc.).  I know that I and other carded collectors typically have a hodgepodge of boxes used to store our figures, but I would be willing to pay for a standardized case/box that could hold my carded collection.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Hey Hasbro - I understand that once you sell figure cases in bulk to chains like WalMart, Target or TRU and the product leaves your warehouses, it's really not your responsibility, but on a recent late night trip to a local WalMart, I was shocked to see twelve cases of Clone Wars 2009 Wave 4 Ratio 1 waiting to either be put out on the pegs or put back into the stockroom. While these figures did well when the Red/White Clone Wars line hit back in August 2009, how can you expect this store to sell through that much eight-month-old product and still be competitive with other chains that might be getting the Thi-Sen or Snowgear Obi-Wan waves? How is it even possible that this much of a backlog even took place?

Here are a couple I've been wondering lately...

On the back of the Cad Bane packaging, the photography of the figure shows Cad Bane holding both of his pistols and his rifle is on his back lined up with the pack straps to give the visual impression that the straps are holding the rifle. For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how I'm supposed to "snap" the rifle in place on Bane's back. Was this a feature of the figure that was originally planned but then dropped during production?

Due to plans changing with the last WalMart Comic Pack 2-pack exclusive wave, it seems you had to do quite a bit a scrambling in order to get the Rebel Pilots pack ready to be sold by the online retailers. With the EU wave hitting and the presence of the Eopie stickers on the packaging, it becomes very clear that you had the EU wave of figures made quite some time ago. If you were able to make changes to the case assortments for the WalMart comic 2-pack wave, why couldn't you have gone back into the EU wave cases and swapped out some of the repacks and inserted a second Spacetrooper or Phase I Dark Trooper to help out army builders who are interested in building small squads of these characters? If that wasn't possible, why not substitute two of the repack figures with the second version of the Imperial Scanner Technician and the beardless Hoth Rebel Trooper. Heck why not use this as an opportunity to get out the "skipped" Grievous figure (#24). Due to the huge delay on these, it seems that you could have done any number of things to make ordering this wave by-the-case online a much more appealing proposition and you probably would have also not left Toys R Us stuck with so many repack figures once the smoke clears on this wave.

When previously asked about new CW astrodroids such as R7-A7, R6-H5, or R7-F5, you have invariably replied that they are "collector" figures which you are avoiding in the line.  Yet we continue to get their Jedi's fighters, and, being repaints, they must be relatively inexpensive to produce.  Please tell us what you have planned for the empty droid slots on our Y-Wings & Jedi Fighters!

You had previously mentioned many times that there was to be a 3rd series for the Wal-Mart exclusive Droid Factory sets (which has been cancelled). What characters had you planned to be in this wave, and had you started production on any of them before the series was finally cancelled?

In another site's Q&A, you broke my childhood dreams for a Princess Kneesa figure due to "production issues".  Is she still in the plans for the next Ewok release even if it is next year?

I have a few:

1) There seems to be two mail-away offers in the new Clone Wars figures - one is for a Galactic Battle Game Mat and the other is for a Galactic Battle Game Mat w/Sergeat Bric - are there two different offers or if someone sends away for just the Galactic Battle Game Mat, they are going to get the Mat w/Bric in return?

2) Why did you leave Zuckuss out of the ESB Vintage wave? While we know that there is a misnamed convention exclusive version that is on the Vintage cardback, it seems like a missed opportunity to finish off the ESB Bounty Hunters on Vintage Cards by not including him in the wave.

3) Darth Vader and C-3PO are new figures in the Vintage line yet you put the figures with the same images as you used in the 2004 VOTC line. Since the vintage Kenner line never had a Vader w/removable helmet or a C-3PO with removable plating, couldn't new imagery from ESB have been used for these figures? For example, a shot of Vader sitting in his meditation chamber would have been great for this version of the character.

4) Can you please go on the record as to whether or not stores are allowed to sell product before the August 6th date printed on the shipping cases? It seems that Toys R Us has broken the street date both online and sporadically at their brick-and-mortar stores both in the UK and also in the UK. So is there supposed to be a strict adherence to the date or has the date been scrapped due to the ridiculously long wait time between new product? And if Toys R Us has been given the green-light to sell the new product, can you please see what you can do about getting the word out to them? There seems to be a few employees who think you're gonna fine them for millions of dollars if they sell me a Vintage figure.

And one more...

5) I know you updated the Star Wars stands sold through HasbroToyShop.com to have two pegs, but the biggest problem, as a collector, I have with the stand sets is that there are too many stands from movies you don't focus on as much as others and quite often, I have to resort to using a "Phantom Menace" stand for an "Expanded Universe", "Revenge of the Sith" or "A New Hope" figure. Would you consider either (a) on the next production run of these, making only the generic "Star Wars" stands or (b) switching over to the stands you have shipping with the new Clone Wars and Legends figures for the battle card game?

Dear Hasbro.
The new AT-ST Driver is probably THE most interesting figure from the upcoming Hoth battle packs and it seems an odd choice that Hasbro is putting a figure with so much army building potential in an expensive battle pack when a single card release would be more profitable (personally, I would buy at least five or six). Will this figure be released on single card in 2011?

In a recent "The Clone Wars" Season 3 teaser trailer, Asajj Ventress' Fan Blade starfighter was shown. Considering this ship is seen in multiple sources (novels, comics, original "Clone Wars" microseries and current "The Clone Wars" series), is it likely that this will be made in the vehicles line? Also, Asajj seems to have strong fan appeal, which could justify this release.

Has there been any updates on the status for the release of a Fozec figure?  Last I remember reading in an older QnA you stated that he was on your short list, or parking lot, and he keeps barely getting bumped out of the lineup.  Is he slotted for a 2011 or 2012 release?

Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?

Couple of questions....

1) Would you ever consider releasing packs of figure stands that just say generically "Star Wars" on them, like the new stands that come with the Clone Wars figures (for example)?

2) Why do you continue to release characters in the Clone Wars line with limited articulation or molded plastic "skirts" only to release new versions at a later date with better articulation and typically soft-goods in place of those molded plastic parts? Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon, Cad Bane, Count Dooku and the Cold Weather/Flamethrower Clone are all great examples of this. Wouldn't it save you money in the long run to do the figure "right" the first time and then get several re-releases out of that tooling/fabric pattern?

3) Now that we have Jedi Starfighters for Plo Koon and Kit Fisto are there any plans on releasing the 3D Clone Wars versions of their astromechs? You once said you had no plans for Obi-Wan and Ahsoka's droids, yet we're getting both of them now...

4) We know that in the past you have said that many battle-packs will be straight-up re-releases of figures that fit together via a theme (such as an episode of the Clone Wars cartoon) - a great example of this is the new Orto Plutonia battle pack. From a play-pattern perspective, this seems like a great set that would work well with kids. For collectors though, three quick tweaks could have been made that required no difference in parts or tooling: (1) Have Cold-Weather Gear Anakin use the "hood up" accessory to match his original cardback artwork; (2) Have Cold-Weather Gear Obi-Wan use the "hood down" accessory to match his original cardback artwork; and (3) using the same Cold Weather Rex sculpt with molded plastic kama - instead of making the clone Rex, make it a generic Clone. All three of these changes would have gone a long way to make this pack friendly to both buying segments.

5) When do you currently plan on slotting VC-20 (Yoda) and VC-28 (Wedge) into the Vintage collection line? Are these two figures going to end up like the Red/White Legacy Collection repack of General Grievous?

Just an FYI that we are waiting on one set of answers back from Hasbro (were due yesterday  ::)) and beyond that, there are NO more Q&A questions scheduled until 2011.  Even then, there may not be another Q&A until after Toy Fair 2011...

But, I can tell you that I know #5 was asked by one site so you should get answers on what happened to Yoda/Wedge hopefully soon.

Hi Hasbro, is it on your plans to schedule an all new big X Wing Fighter?

Here is how I fancy this iconic vehicle.

-Taller and  larger than saga version, weathered for Dagobah esb and rotj scenes.
-Without stickers, all in sculpt (You can do it Hasbro!)
-Green lights on sides of the wings, cause we saw them when the ship is stationed in the dialogue between Luke and Obi Wan on rotj.
-A ladder a bit larger also.
-You can add a variation of the incoming Dagobah Landing Luke pilot, perhaps with his gloves.

When the Star Wars Mighty Muggs line was put on hiatus I understand Hasbro was going to wait and see if interest picked up in the future.  In the fall/winter of 2010 it appears that Hasbro stuck their toe back in the water with the awesome three packs of Mini Muggs at Target.  How did these sets do and are there any plans to continue the line of Mini Muggs?

'Not Well' and 'Target is thinking about it, but nothing to announce right now'.

At Toy Fair it was announced that the Galactic Heroes line has ended.  Any word if, when and where the Galactic Heroes AT-ST might see a stateside release?

From the GH thread:

Just please tell me SOMEBODY cornered a Hasbro rep and determined the AT-ST's fate.

"Up in the air". :(  There is a small chance TRU could take it for Christmas, but that isn't finalized/official.  Maybe we'll get an update at SDCC.

In other words, if it does end up being a TRU exclusive, they'll likely save it for an SDCC slide-show reveal.  If TRU doesn't pick it up, it probably goes into limbo.

Hasbro:

I really have been wanting to start ordering cases of Star Wars figures (specifically from the Vintage, or realistic line) rather than having to hunt all over to find the figures I want at retail but I have not because usually I don't like the figure breakdowns of most cases.  I pretty much buy one of almost every figure you put out so I was curious as to why you do not make cases more catering to these type of collectors?    What I think would be really helpful to most collectors and encourage them to order cases of figure, while also not being hurtful to retail outlets, would be the following model:

1.  Each wave consisting of 6 new figures.  If this cannot be achieved replace 1 or 2 with an in demand army builder.
2.  Wave 1, at the start of a new assortment or line consisting of 2 of each the 6 new characters or a couple slots being army builders.
3.  Wave 2, 6 new figures along with the 6 from wave 1.
4.  Wave 3, 6 new figures along with the 6 new figures from wave 2.
5.  Wave 4, 6 new figures along with the 6 new figures from wave 3.
6.  Keep repeating this until the 2nd to last wave.
7.  Final wave of a line or an assortment being a case full figures from the line that are still in demand.

If you follow the above model, or something similar to it, I believe that you would get more consistent collectors like myself to be ordering from you by the case every wave, or every other wave and then we wouldn't feel like we are missing out on anything or come back complaining to you later about why we were unable to find figure "x", or that I am buying figure "xx" 5 times throughout collecting the line.

What are your thoughts on my proposed case breakdowns?

edit:  If any mods like this question and you actually want to select it feel free to edit it at will.  I realize it is a bit lengthy.

I'm going to throw this one out in there in case the Q&As continue, as I think it's something that really needs to be addressed, and soon, especially with the price increases:

Dear Hasbro:

Since wave 2 of the Vintage Collection was released during the fall of 2010, collectors across the United States have noted that the helmet of the ROTS Clone Trooper is severely discolored.  The helmet is, at best, very much off-white, and at worst, is either already tinted green or brown.  This could have (and, really, should have) been an isolated incident only seen in one area of the country or could have been attributed to a "bad batch" of materials, the figures could have been pulled as defective and returned to Hasbro, and future shipments could have been corrected so that this did not continue.

Sadly, however, not only was this incident not isolated, this particular figure continued to ship in at least 2 waves after its initial release (and is, at the time of this writing, scheduled to ship in another wave or 2 this spring) and the helmet problem remains.  Even worse is that the recently released 212th repaint of this Clone Trooper ALSO has the same discolored helmet issue, and even the Vintage Stormtrooper that it ships alongside has a helmet which is already in the process of deteriorating.

With the rising costs across the board, and Hasbro's statements that with Vintage, things were to be "done right" the first time, why is this issue continuing to occur?  The vast majority of Vintage figures across the country on pegs at this moment are ROTS Clone Troopers, the majority of whom have this very issue.  It is clearly a subpar product using subpar materials, and it is disappointing for a "premium line" (premium in both pricing and detailing) to have such an obvious and damaging flaw.

So, all that aside, my questions are these:  Is Hasbro planning on taking steps to correct these issues for future runs of these figures?  Will currently available Clone figures (both ROTS and 212th versions) be treated as defective and recalled from retail?

Mods, if you choose to submit this question, feel free to modify it as necessary.  The more I see the yellow helmeted Clones at retail, the more irritated I get.  I'd be willing to bet that part of the reason they are pegwarming is because of the horribly discolored helmets.

I'm going to guess that their answer will match the one they gave when they responded to greening Clone Helmets in the CW line in November 2010 -

"This is the first we have heard of this issue; we have not seen it in any of our production samples.  We'll look into it; if you could provide pics of this green it would be a big help.  While we check and guarantee production samples of everything that goes into production, sometimes things change due to material availability, changing deco masks, and the like.  Occasionally, we hear of things first from our consumers letting us know that something might be off." (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=192.msg80885#msg80885)

Not saying the question won't be submitted... just don't be expecting much of an answer since they never really answer those type of questions.

I would like to know what Hasbro thinks about sales of their mid-size vehile assortment.  I see the same 2-3 ships at various stores around me and have not seen anything new in many many months.  Will we see this line replenished with some of the more recent, harder to find items anytime soon?  Along the same lines, what is your perspective on AT-AT sales?  Did they meet or exceed planned expectations?  This is a great toy at a great price and most of the supply seems to have already sold through.

Dear Hasbro,

As collection evolves, I want to ask you When is scheduled an update for the classic stormtrooper?
I like the tlc figure, and its variations on tvc line, but looking at what you did recently with characters like commander Fordo, the heads of Cody, etc., I thought you can offer us a new imperial stormtrooper with the following upadtes:

A new sculpt with independent pieces of shoulder plates. Perhaps as an extra layer, detachable or not, you will decide.

A little more opened chest section showing a bigger portion of the black suit.

Longer legs more relief on the layers of armors too.

Paintjob: mark always the black, gray or blue dots on stomach armor.
Mark the grey and black of the "teeth" on helmet.
Paint always the grey square on stormtroopers heels.

Give us another headsculpt, like Fordo without beard.

I am sure thousands of collectors would appreciate your effort.

Sicerely,

Epic Gon

QUESTION:  The mini-rig concept seems to have been very well received by collectors.  Especially some of the movie realistic offerings (Hint, hint) as well as some of the original designs like the Y-Wing Scout Bomber.  But we're also left wondering if we can expect some new animation derived vehicles like the underwater sled as seen in the CLONE WARS season 4 trailers.  Can we expect to see more original designs, Clone Wars designs, Saga designs, or a blend of all of the above over the next year?

QUESTION:  The upcoming Battle Droid from the recently announced EPISODE I wave looks interesting.  It definitely has people wanting to see more of it!  And it also begs the question, will this new Battle Droid be repainted so that we can get some high-quality versions of the Security, Pilot and Commander Battle Droids?

QUESTION:  One of the highlights of the CLONE WARS Season 4 trailers have been some clips of Jedi General Krell.  He's a Besalisk, complete with 4 arms and 2 double-bladed lightsabers, and he plays a prominent role in a 4-part story arc in the upcoming season.  With all of that in mind, he HAS to make great fodder for a Clone Wars basic figure.  And it make you wonder, how WOULD you give Jedi style articulation to a character with 4 arms?  Oh, and in the process we'd love to see you revisit Dexter Jettster in similar fashion, too!

Title: Re: Questions for Hasbro?
Post by: Nicklab on June 17, 2012, 11:48 AM
The tone from some sites definitely got belligerent at times.  With some of the Q&A participants there was this air of nastiness plus a sense of entitlement that was all wrapped up in a not-so-subtle undercurrent of "we know how to do your jobs better than you do".  All things considered, that must have left the Hasbro management team wondering why they were taking part in what had become an abusive relationship.  Forums are a great place for venting.  But that tone doesn't translate well when you're asking questions of the manufacturer.

In the grand scheme of things, Hasbro needs to keep coming up with new & good ideas that will appeal to this customers.  It's a business, and you constantly need to work to keep your customers loyal.  But what does a business do when someone gets unruly?  If you're a local business owner, you ask them to leave your establishment.  In the case of the Star Wars Hasbro Q&A, you let it slowly fade.

Maybe they'll revisit the concept at some point in time.  But frankly, if they do, I could see them making some very targetted exclusions of some of the past participants.  It's not difficult to write a probing question in the interest of getting answers.  But when you add all sorts of invective to it, why should anybody want to bother?
