OK, one of the things that popped up during the JD downtime was a SSG (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/index.php?categoryid=13&p2_articleid=1156) story on a possible preview figure for the 2008 Clone Wars line...
Thoughts?
Looks like you can buy any 4 Saga Legends figures or 30AC figures and use the UPCs... here's hoping it's something that is worth army building as I have a LOT of UPCs from the last 12 months. ;)
-
Man, I wish I saved the UPC's, although I'm sure I've still got a couple laying around, and many more to come.
As long as it's not 'Jar Jar Binks: Clone Wars Bombad General,' it won't hurt to order a couple of whatever this is. Hopefully it's a cool new army builder.
-

I feel the same way. Wish I would have kept the ones i had but i will have more. It doesnt mention any use of a sales receipt either?
-
That's a pretty sweet deal, only 4 figures required. I'm VERY curious to see what this turns out to be.
-
Yeah I'm hoping it's something really great like a figure, army builder of course being the ideal. I'm figure it'll be a poster or something lame though... The wording just has me worried, but a figure would be great. I'm saving UPC's now though, that's for sure. :) I didn't up till this point... May as well though.
-
Based on what we've seen in the "trailer" for the cartoon series, and Hasbro's sneak preview figures traditionally being either semi-important background characters (Tion Medon, Zam Wessel), army builders (Episode II Clone, ROTS Wookiee), or characters we've already seen in one form or another (Jango, Grievous, R4-G9), I'm going to go out on a limb and say the "sneak" figure (if one actually occurs and it isn't a stupid poster instead) is two of those three. Namely, I think it will be an ARC Trooper with exclusive decoration differences from the currently shipping Obi-Wan/ARC comic-two pack.
My reasoning for this:
1-It's easy to do. Just do a couple of minor paint apps, take away the extensive battle damage of the comic two-pack version, and you have a relatively new figure.
2-It's an army builder, meaning Hasbro won't get stuck with a massive amount of backstock (GL in ST Disguise) that they have to get rid of elsewhere. And even if they do, they can still put it in a Battle Pack or in another round of "Saga Legends" assortments.
3-It's a "new" character that is integral to the series. Everyone will want one or more, and the visibility in the marketing campaign will make it even more desirable.
All this is just speculation on my part, but I think that out of all the characters we've seen thus far, the ARC Trooper makes the most sense. They'll probably save an accurately-scaled Grievous and/or IG-100 series MagnaGuard for the basic figure assortment, and new versions of the main characters will probably go that way as well. We're already seeing tons of AOTC-era Clone Troopers at retail currently, so those would be redundant. The only other character I could see as a mailaway that wouldn't be unspectacular would be this new Togruta female character we keep hearing about, but then again, if she's so prominent in the series, making her an exclusive mailaway figure would be like shooting themselves in the foot.
-
With the way the UPCs have been packed this year, I haven't been saving them either, but I will be from here on out. Hopefully it is indeed a mail away figure though - there's just something about sending off for a "free" figure, brings back memories of the vintage line.
-
Hmmm. I'm thinking that the mail-away figure might be Alpha, the ARC Trooper. Maybe I'm taking the image on the card too literally, but that looks like an ARC Trooper on that card and Alpha is also featured prominently in the trailer
-
I guess I'll be on a package disposal moratorium until we find out what this is.
-
Looks like it is going to be a figure ;D. Hasbro confirmed it over at the JI Q&A.
"JI:Recently a scan of a 2008 clone trooper figure redemption coupon showed up online. Can you tell us if there will be a 2008 mail-away figure and exactly what figure will it be?
Hasbro: We can confirm that this will indeed be a promotion for next year tied in to Clone Wars, but we are not at liberty yet to reveal more details on which figure will be available. We will reveal more details around Toy Fair. Stay tuned..."
-
I have all of my packaging from the TAC and Saga Legends figures I've opened. So I'm not so much concerned about having all of the UPCs I need, I'm hoping that you don't need to include a receipt from the store where you bought the figures dated between X and Y date. That would stink.
Hopefully they are using the UPCs as a replacement for the silver tabs that the VTSC/VTAC figures came with - those promotions didn't require receipts.
We'll probably also have to include a check for $5 or so to cover shipping.
-
I'm wondering if they'll show us this figure at Toy Fair?
edit: Over at scum they have a carded figure with the promotion on it. The send away figure is a character named Captain Rex.

Captain Rex? The droid from Star Tours? Interesting...
-
ll be all over it if it is REX from Star Tours. ;D but i doubt it. it will probably be that clone that we see Asaj force choking in the trailer. or some other clone trooper of some sort that could easly be repainted and given out.
-
No. It's gotta be REX for Star Tours!! It can't be just another repainted clone. It just can't. :-X
-

IIRC, the Star Tours ride at Disney is getting a major overhaul. So perhaps there's a new Captain Rex as well.
-
Star Tours Rex was my first thought as well. I think it woul dactually be awesome if it turns out to be him on the show. Nice way to tie everything in together.
-

Okay, I can't believe all the votes for the Star Tours Rex figure. If we can use our 2007 UPCs, then I'm hoping to army build. I would much rather army build a repaint clone than a platoon of Star Tours Rex's. :P
-
I can't imagine a more boring choice if that Droid does turn out to be the preview figure. I've never felt the Star Tours Droids (besides the astromechs) looked like they belonged in the SW universe.
-
I just looked up that droid on Wookieepedia and here's an interesting tidbit:
According to The Cinema of George Lucas, the character was originally envisioned by George Lucas as a veteran of the Clone Wars called "Crazy Harry", before the idea of a rookie pilot droid was developed.
Hmmm.
-
I think it's just a recycled name. My guess is the figure will be a Clone Captain. Probably just a red "pre-paint" of the clone shown in the poster and teaser trailer for the series.
I suppose the blue clone could be Captain Rex as well but who knows? :P
-
Oh definitely, and I'll be surprised if it isn't a clone. Still, it's an amusing coincidence.
-
I dont think it's really going to be Rex from Star Tours but it gives me hope that it wont be a clone.
-
If it's that stupid droid, I'm pretty disappointed.
As a Star Tours figure, that thing is ok, but as a CW thing, I've got a lot of UPC's without a use.
-
I'm hoping that it's just a coincidence with the name.
-
I wonder if there are going to be any rules reguarding the UPC's, because it'd be funny if someone sent Hasbro a bunch of UPC's with Jedi Master Points on them. Hopefully we won't have to buy "specially marked" UPC's because I've got about 20 sitting around right now.
-

I'm pretty sure the form said something about the UPCs needing to come from TAC or Legends figures, so anything prior to those wouldn't be valid. Doesn't look like they are requiring a receipt, which is very cool, since that always seems to be a major hassle.

IIRC from the Clone Wars panel at C4, this blue Clone was id'd by series director Dave Filoni at Alpha.

Remember though, only Jedi Master Points are usable in the US. So those stockpiles in the rest of the world don't apply. ;)

Cripes if that were the case and we could send ANY SW Hasbro UPC, I've got hundreds of those Jedi Master Points in storage.
I'd love to finally be able to use them, but know it's a pipe dream...

The assortments are listed right on the form that was posted. Current Basic Line and Legends figs are likely all that will work with this offer.
-
Ah yes. I forgot I've seen that...Well, that answers that question.
Thanks.

Anyone else think that middle figure (the ARC Trooper) is labelled as "Rex"?

Looks like it to me.

Looks like it to mee too. Who is the little green thing next to him. Doesnt look like Yoda.
-
Yeah - what is that green thing?
Please tell me that they didn't feel compelled to give Anakin his own "Pikachu"-type companion.
-
It's a baby Hutt
-
The little green thing is Jedi Master Aphid....heh heh.
And I agree the Blue Clone looks like Rex.
Here are some shots from the trailer of "Rex" if he is indeed the Blue Commander Clone.

I'm aware that the Blue Clone Commander could also be construed as Alpha however, I'm going on the first pic of the LEGO figs.
The helmet markings are different from Alpha's as well as the paulron (which of course could have been simplified for the cartoon).
-Sal

I think that little green thing is Jar Jar's head.
-
Has anyone noticed that the markings on Rex's head are similar to those on the Mandalorian Clones in the EE packs?
-
Has anyone noticed that the markings on Rex's head are similar to those on the Mandalorian Clones in the EE packs?
Yup. They're all based on early concepts for Boba Fett from the late 1970s-- they're mining a lot of those old concepts for new figure opportunities. (I digs 'em.)
-
Ok, if you needed more proof, here is a MUCH clearer pic of the LEGO figs. Rex is CLEARLY marked and is the very same trooper as originally posted and seen in the CW trailer as well.

Awesome. Thanks for posting! I'm so glad that the mail away figure is a decent army builder!
-
NP, glad to help.
I'm glad there was something more official about this, without having to wait for Hasbro to pony up with the info.
-
I'm hoping that we'll see the figure at Toy Fair - it's our best chance to see our first glimpse of a Clone Wars cartoon-based figure.

That little Hutt is just too hiliarious. I love it. :)

Yikes. That's a terrible thought.

How are we going to get a preview figure mailed to us before July 26 if we don't even have coupons yet?
-
How are we going to get a preview figure mailed to us before July 26 if we don't even have coupons yet?
Hmm... the coupon doesn't say anything about it being a "preview" figure. It'll probably be handled just like the GL Stormie and the VTSC Coins were - "they'll get here when they get here" :P
(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/11-07/clonepreview.jpg)
-
The coupons will be in figures like Wave 5 of the Saga Legends collection. I'm assuming all of the 2008 Saga Legends figures will ship with the offer.
If you check out this image:
http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2008/SLshadowstorm1.jpg
You'll see that the sticker reads:
SPECIAL OFFER! Get a sneak peak at the Clone Wars action coming in Fall '08, with an exclusive Captain Rex figure -- available ONLY in this special offer! Visit starwars.hasbro.com or see inside for more details. Valid in U.S. and Canada only. Expires 12/31/08.
It is this wording that changed this figure from being a "mail away offer" to a "sneak preview" figure.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about the verbiage on the sticker.
-

Ahhh, I remember that comparison shot from the Clone Wars presentation at C4.
-
Seeing that comparison shot makes me think I prefer the older style of animation. I loved Genndy Tartakovsky's work.
-
Hey, I found a bunch of TAC Legends figures with the Commander Rex offer sticker on them this morning at my local Walmart. The sticker said to get the P.O.P inside or go to Hasbro.com. I looked at Hasbro no sign of the offer. Anyway, there was no way I was going to buy those figures, so I guess we are going to wait to see what we need to get this figure.
-

Yeah, on first blush it's just a "split the difference" move, but the trailer looked awesome so I'm still hopeful.
-
Which Legends figure were they? wasn't they suppose to be on the 08 wave of legends? or are they rehashing older waves again
-
old wave, Geo C3po r2d2 ect., and figures like that..you know the no one wants already. ;D
-
Some old, and some new were all supposed to be mixed together for '08, just like the basic line if I'm not mistaken... Maybe Ice just missed new figures someone else snagged? Either way, this is the first report of '08 Legends figures showing up I've heard of, so that's good I guess.

Wal-Mart Wal-Mart Wal-Mart. Hey Target - catch up already will ya!?
-
Commander Rex offer is 4 UPC codes and $6.99($7.20 for Canada). Offer ends Dec 31,2008. I'm gonna send off my offer tomorrow. See how soon I get it.
-
So it is going to cost the same amount as a figure in the store plus we have to mail away four UPC and then wait to get it. at that rate just release the figure with the regular line.

WHAT?! Its $7 plus four UPCs? Hasbro you stink. >:( Why not just make it an online Exclusive and charge $20?

heck im happy..i know i will buy more then four figures so UPC are not a problem and at $7.20 that is almost saving $4 for me at this rate i will probably order two.
-
A figure shipped to my door, for cost basically, isn't too bad... Especially since getting UPC's for it is a cinch already... I've got a bag of dozens of them just waiting. I may snag 5 or something and cut it short there.
-
I guess it all depends on how the figure comes.
If the figure comes in a smaller white mailer box only slightly bigger than the figure and the figure is in a clear baggie, then yeah, I think $6.99 is a bit much.
If the figure comes like the George Lucas Stormtrooper figure in a larger box and all carded up, then I'm okay with that. I'm sure we'll see how Captain Rex will be shipped at Toy Fair.
I'll still probably get at least three since (a) I have a mountain of the UPCs since I bought double TAC for the coins, I could sacrifice 60 bubble inserts and still have a full set - PLUS I have all of the inserts from the army builders and (b) two of the three GL figures I got came in less than mint condition so 3 gives me better odds.
-
Rex will be available in two forms -
Preview Figure = "Clean" version on a "premium" card. The card has a fold-down back, similar to the EU cards from back in the day.
Basic Figure = "Dirty/Battle Damage" version on the standard Clone Wars card found in Wave 1.
-
Nice! I'm torn now on getting this sub line....But I'm edging ever closer to getting them. But I don't want to and if I do, I'll be sorely tempted to army build. Something I've all but sworn off except the new Kashyyyk clone. It's already going to be an expensive year, especially regarding all of the great vehicles coming out this year!
-

I defintely feel your pain. I'm not entirely keen on the Clone Wars animated line, but I'm not going to completely ignore an entire sub-line which is going to contain some great vehicles (V-19, Homing Spider Droid and the AT-TE) - so I think I will do what I did with the other animated series, two of each, one to open and one to keep MOC. I will not army build ANY of these clones. I will send away for probably five or six Captain Rex figures, but only because I have a complete spare set of TAC figure packaging inserts that I can pull UPCs from, so I figure I might as well put them to good use. Perhaps I'll feel differently when I see them in person, but right now, based on the photos, since the clones don't "fit" in with all of the other mountains of clones that I have, I will consider this a "novelty" 3.75" sub-line that does not consist of any army-builders worth adding to my current armies.
-
Hmmm, now that you mention this Pete, I may do a carded set and maybe an open set but not army build, though I'll be honest that that is going to be extremely hard for me to not do.(Army build).

Diorama kicks ass.
I don't really want to dick around with the preview figures and the POPs so I will probably just go for the basic/dirty version.
-
It's interesting how his kama doesn't go all the way around...I wonder if that's a playability thing, and will allow him to sit in ships?
-

Unless the kama is made of the most flexible plastic in the world or cloth, I'm afraid Captain Rex will suffer the same problems that all Clones w/kamas face - the inability to sit down. It probably just matches how he looks in the cartoon.
-
I'm looking forward to getting two of these (one to open, one to keep in package.)
-
Ball Jointed wrists! i think i may get three. one for package. 1 for opening and another for the hell of it lol. Mostly cause i want to have him in two diffeent scenes.
-
Gawd, it's becoming that much harder to pass these up.
Just two days ago I was 100% against them.
Yesterday 75% against.
Now I'm 50/50.
SDCC is going to really help make or break my decision. But at this rate, it looks like I may be one of the "fallen." (One of those who wouldn't collect the SW line, but caved) heh heh.
-
It's easy to stay away from collecting star wars figures until your store starts to restock with new stuff.
Must fight the urge to buy this figure! Must fight the urge!!! :-\

Actually, it will be harder when the pegs are empty of what you really want and these guys are hanging around during that time. That is when the desperation for the happy toy will take hold.
I am still 100% out on these although I will be mailing away for a few of the Rex's for trade sale and one keeper. I already mailed away for my first one with number 2 tomorrow. I really hope they convert this line to realistic in year 2. Having a separate animated line will steal away figure slots from the main line long term.
-
...I already mailed away for my first one with number 2 tomorrow.
I'll prolly have a number 2 tomorrow...oh not that? NM.
-
I alreayd sent away for 2, and have the envelope for #3 ready. I just have so many UPC's around i feel like i must. I wish i could find 4 UGH stickers before the deadline this week to send away for another coin set. ::)

That's hilarious. The price is brutal for you US guys, but as jangotat points out, it's actually below Canadian retail by quite a bit. I've got a nice little stack of UPCs saved up, so why not. Saving $4 a figure is a good deal.
-
$7 is actually below the US cost too since these are retailing for $8. We buy the figures anyway so the UPC's are easy to come by. It's not like the VOTC promotions where you had to buy VOTC figures. Any current figure will work with this promotion so I cannot see complaining about &7 for a shipped figure in a special package. sounds like a deal to me.
I already mailed away for my 7th Rex today. It's weird I feel obligated to use every mail away ticket.......I am not even collecting the animated line when it comes out.
-
...I already mailed away for my 7th Rex today.
Nice!
Now that's a "true fan" (as that scummer would say). lol
-
Got to open one of the new pit droids last night with the mail away slip. It's a weird feeling not to want to mail away for any SW figure.
-

I got the same fig last night. I too wasn't excited about mailing away for the Rex fig. Lord knows I've got enough POPs for it. I'll get around to it eventually.

I'd hate to be the worker that opens that letter. :-X

Just a heads up, my check was cashed for my Rex figure so they should be shipping soon.
-
My checks have been cashed as well.
-
Same here. Have any actual packaged photos shown up yet? There's usually been at least one shown by the time the checks have been cashed. Well, that or an Ebay auction for "SUPER HOT RARE VHTF CANCELLED COMMANDER REX CLONE WARS SITH VADER OMG" that "fell off the back of a truck" and hit Philip Wise in the head and/or ass (either way, it's a huge target). :)
-

There are pictures out of Aussie Toy fair covered by Mousedroid.
-
Check cashed. I wonder when they will ship.
-
If all the checks are getting cashed I would think it'd be shipping pretty soon. I will have to get going on this. I actually like the look of Rex. Something different at least.
-
No Rex yet. :-\
-
Two more checks cashed this week, but no indication of shipping. :-\
-
Maybe this is a scam by Hasbro to grab an additional $6.99 without actually producting anything?
-
Maybe this is a scam by Hasbro to grab an additional $6.99 without actually producting anything?
Wouldn't that be something. I have a few sets ready to go but haven't shipped them off yet. I'm waiting to hear what other people think of the fig (as well as see more pics of it), before I send my certs/UPCs/Money Orders away.
-
Maybe this is a scam by Hasbro to grab an additional $6.99 without actually producting anything?
I think that's jumping to conclusions just a tad. Hasbro may be slower than you anticipated, but I'm sure Rex will arrive.
-
Oh I know it will. It's just a thought from alternate universe where Hasbro is an evil corporation with no one to account to.
Oh wait.... ;)
-
I mailed off for number 13! Once I get some more certificate forms I am ready to mail away fo' more!
I have to see if they cashed my checks.....

I was going to get four, but am settling for two. However to date I have sent off 20 certificates and UPCs sets to other collectors. At $7 per figure X 4 X 20, that has saved a total of $560 for those collectors. And I was glad to help.
-

That's insane. I also thought I had oprdered too many with just four. I would have ordered dozens, but at $7 a pop they aren't any better deal than the regular retail price. :-\
-
Just as a heads up, I received a postcard in the mail today saying that they received my redemption request for the Clone Wars 2008 Captain Rex collectible figure, but due to an unanticipated production delay they will be unable to ship the figure(s) until the last week of July, 2008. They also offer information if you want to cancel due to the delay.

That's weird - didn't they request an email address on the form? Why not just save thousands in shipping costs and email people? ???
-
I got my notice today as well. no big deal, not too excited for the figure yet anyway

Got two notices today as well. I'm a little surprised that I got two different notices, but ordered four figures - you'd think they would either send four notices or just one? ???
-
Just a question for those of you who have gotten the delay notice: have your checks already been cashed? Not to be nitpicky, but if they cashed the check and THEN sent out the delay notice, isn't that a little bit shady, or am I being a little too paranoid?
Also, isn't the very idea of a "sneak preview" figure supposed to be that you have it well before the actual main line hits? If they're waiting until the last week of July to send this out, it's going to be hitting just as or immediately after the rest of the stuff hits, thus making the entire thing pretty pointless. :-\

Yes the checks have already been cashed, at least mine.

My checks have all cashed. From the sound of it, I think Hasbro planned to be sending them out sooner, but there was some sort of production delay. If they're like most big corporations, finance and production don't interact much, so its likely that finance just went ahead with business as usual, thinking these would ship on time.
-
Just think of it like the '77 Early Bird kit promotion. You buy the figures/display first, then you get the figures in the mail months later. :P
-
My check was cashed but I never got a delayed notice.
-
I can't believe we have to wait until the end of July for the Captain Rex figure!!! >:(
-
I wonder which will get here first. Rex or the Indy Crystal Skeleton?
-
How many Captain Rex figures have you all sent away for?
I have had hit and miss success with getting these kinds of figures to arrive in a MOC condition, so I'm probably going to send away for way more than I need with the hopes that at least one will arrive MOC.
So far I've sent in two, but I'm thinking about two more just to hedge my bets. And then I'll open one and then use the other two for trades.
If this figure had been done in realistic styling, I probably would have sent away for at least seven or eight of them by now. :-\
-
Couldn't agree more. I sent in for four, which is more than I planned. If this was the same styling as the basic figure line, I would have sent in for twice that. :-\
-
I sent for 4 and wasnt planning on it. I dontthink i will be sending away for any more.
-
Just in time for you guys to be talking about it... :)

Pretty slick looking and even I must admit the animated look is nice. It's tempting, it's very true to its media... I'm set in my resolve to not buy into animated stuff, but I'm glad I got Rex. He'll make a nice desktop toy I think.
And the clones come with an assload of hardware. It's cool. I wish movie Clones all had a rifle, a carbine, a small rocket launcher, maybe a grappling hook type weapon... That'd be neat. Extra rifles will have to do with some figures I guess, haha.
-
Personally, I think this is a character that is crying out for a head swap. I know that is how the character looks in the show but I really think it would look better with a regular clone head with white painted hair. Somehow I think the Crystal Skelleton is a better deal.
-
Agreed... Crystal Skull figure is a lot better... not only is it something NEW, but it's actually appealing...
Rex, on the other hand, is not... maybe it's the ridiculous head sculpt that kills it for me.
-
I will be getting both but I don't know about Rex being worse than a skeleton that just sits on a throne? I would think Rex would be the better "deal" since it has a bit more play action involved.
-
I gotta agree, I think Rex is better than what ammounts to a set piece. A super articulated commando clone with removable helmet and a pile of weapons, or a skeleton that really is just like getting an Ark, but less cool...
I may not be into the animated stuff, but I do think that Rex is cooler on every level by comparison... As toys go.
-
All Rex is, is essentially a paint variation of an existing figure. Not too ground breaking.
The skeleton/skull is the central theme to the new Indy movie, and therefore is more relevent.
In that context, it's a better deal, at least in my opinion.
-
I think the skeleton is the cooler mailaway. I wish i could send for more.
-
It's looking at it from two points of view... One where you're looking at it as something important from a movie, and one where you're looking at it as "which is the better toy". The Skeleton is, by all means, a set piece... It's like an accessory. The Captain Rex is a seemingly important character in the upcoming CW cartoon, and someone involved in action/etc.
I think the skeleton's a keen mail-in thing, but like I say it's an accessory to me... Rex on the other hand captures the point of a "toy", and will appeal to the market he's aimed at (kids) tremendously I think. The skeleton's almost like a reward for buying toys, whereas Rex seems more like a thing to get you "pumped" about something that is coming up.
I still maintain that Rex is the superior toy overall... The skeleton is like a bonus accessory, which I'm all for more of that in the line myself. I just think from a toy/kid perspective, Rex would be more appealing.
-
My whole point is that Rex is already going to be available on a regular card, making the mailaway for a repainted version of him kind of weak.
-
Technically, that makes the basic figure the weak one... But it ties to the whole point that Rex is hyping a toy, which is hyping a cartoon/movie, which is hyping up kids...
The Crystal Skeleton was more like a fan wank then. It was available to mail in around the time of the film's release... And was revealed only after the movie. For hype factor, Rex is still the better choice I think as toys go...
Like I say, the Skeleton rocks as a set piece... it's kind of like being told you could mail away for a stand of chalices from the Last Crusade, or the ark maybe from Raiders. It's cool, but it's like a glorified accessory to another figure or something.
Rex is all about action, action figures, and building hype for a new toy line and a new movie/cartoon... As toys go, Rex is pretty outstanding. The collector in me digs the skeleton, but the toy fan in me appreciates Rex for what he is... And I'm not even collecting animated stuff.
Rex just reminds me of the cool stuff you could mail in for as a kid... The skeleton, not so much. It's more like the, "hey, I wanted that now that I'm 30 and it feels like my collection feels incomplete without it", crowd... if that makes sense.
-
The collector and the kid in me is more interested in the skeleton. Clones have been in abundance now since 2005. Cool accessory pieces like the skeleton/throne have not.
But, that's just me. :)
-
I am trying to think back to when i was a kid and i know i would have preferred the skeleton over rex. We already have many clones but don't have any skeletons. I think that a kid would prefer something different.
-
Really?
Given the complete and utter popularity of Clones today and how they've practically driven sales of Star Wars figures at times, and you think a kid isn't into the Clone now? In an animated toy line, aimed pretty well at kids to boot...
Personally I think I hear a little bias there... Like I said, I'm not even buying the animated stuff, but to be a kid into Star Wars right now, it's gotta be fun... And kids love Clones. I don't think there's really a way to dispute that to be honest, but if you guys say so... ;)
-

I'm with Jesse. That skeleton seems pretty lame to me regardless of age. I do wish the Rex was in more realistic styling, but it has far more play value for kids. I also don't know of many "kids" who are as jazzed about Indy as they are about Star Wars right now. Cool action cartoon and recent movies versus 20 year old popcorn flick sequel...I know where I'd put my money. Even as a collector, I'd rather have a trooper over skeleton remains. I'm sure a lot of you might disagree, but I'd even rather have any of the clone trooper releases over skeleton remains of Beru and Owen. I guess I just find "ACTION Figure" and "Skeleton" to be a bit of an oxymoron.
-
Anyone get their Captain Rex yet? It seems someone on RS got it.
-
My understanding is that you can buy Captain Rex at retail. What is the difference between this figure and the mail away version?
-
The mail-in version of the figure has a clean deco and has the foldout diorama card back.

-
So one is clean and the other is dirty? Boy do I feel ripped off.
-
Has anyone gotten their Rex figure yet? Do you think we will get this preview figure BEFORE the toys are put out at retail?
-
Hasbro said it would be shipped the last week of July.
-
Guess what the mailman just dropped off at my house... 8)

Lucky you!
Heck I never even got the notice that these were going to be delayed. I find it stupid though, send away for a PREVIEW figure yet it is coming out after the basic figures anyways >:(

Yeah, that is pretty dumb.
-
I received my Rex in the mail on Saturday, so at least it didn't hit too far after the big release day. I haven't gotten a chance to open it up yet, but it didn't look like too bad of a figure.
-
I got Rex #1 on Saturday, and #2 and #3 arrived Monday... :)
I forgot I ordered 3... Yikes. Anyway, the kid loves his, and described as "the coolest Clone he has", so I think this animated stuff is going to do well for Hasbro... Saw some kids going nuts for it just Sunday. It's amazing because a lot of people didn't even know the new toon was coming out I guess. I get a lot of surprised looks when I mention it.
-
Mine hasn't shown up yet. :(
-
Mine either. :(
-
same :(
-
They sent me an email (after I sent one first of course) that mine was shipped on july 21st BUT then I got another email the next day saying it was sent on August 20th (the day they sent the second email). In the end I am royally pissed off with hasbro. This long of a wait without even getting the letter which states the delay is pure BS not to mention two emails which contradict eachother.
-
For those who still want/need one, the offer has been extended (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/default.cfm?page=News/Item&newsid=C51D3E69-D56F-E112-4E416794ABDBD071).
-
Really? I sent in redemption forms for at least 3, but only received 2 so far.

Yeah, mine took four months to arrive, not exactly motivating to send in the four other forms I have, especially when I got a MOMC from a friend and I opened the only one I sent it.
Wonder if they'll extend the Indiana Jones offer?
-
Bah!. lets try
-
Well I didn't need to mail nothing, cuz I found a clean variant of Rex, dough it doesn't come with the diorama wich I care less cuz I wan real 3d dioramas not carded.
Cool to have both Rexes. I think its rare? cuz I saw just one, I have not found more Rexes locally but I could be wrong.

Actually they started issuing clean versions of Cap. Rex (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/TCW/basicfigures/04.html) and the Clone Trooper (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/TCW/basicfigures/05.html) months ago before the cardback changed from the black to blue visor cards.
Also of note, these new Rex figures use a different shade of blue paint to accent the armor.

L to R: Mailaway (clean) | general release (dirty) | general release (clean) | general release (clean and new blue)

Thanx a bunch again Jayson...
I did noticed that the clone were clean as well...
Edited: ooooh I see its more than one variant, Jeessss! :o I will stick with the new blue, cuz why to have more? :)
-
The old ones look almost black. Is that because of the lighting?
-
I saw the latest version at Target yesterday. The blue accent was bright and very noticeable.
-

Yeah, it's just the lighting. The original ones were a dark navy blue, but still blue. The newer ones are much brighter, similar in color to the 501st Clones that are out there (which is what he should have had from the start).
-
I finally picked up Captain Rex at my Toys R Us a couple weeks ago.
-
I was able to mail out for 2 of these before the March '09 extended deadline. I hope they would make another mail-away action figure offer for the upcoming season 2 of The Clone Wars.
I know we've got the Episode I Eopie & Qui Gon-Jinn mail-away but we need something for The Clone Wars season 2! Well, I know I'd enjoy it, just please don't mail it too late, Hasbro. ;)
