I'm moving again soon, so unfortunately my plans hadn;t progessed as planned, my TV is still kind of just sitting there, 57" widescreen Sony, HDTV and DVD's are really nice on this sucker.

Other Collectibles / Re: Unleashed Battle Packs
« on: January 25, 2006, 10:50 PM »
Looking for more/new opinions...

I too kind of shyed away at first with these.  I really liked  these little packs, but NOT at $9.99!  However, now, they seemed to be pretty darn impossible to find in my area (and a few other areas I looked) only seeing them the first week they came out.  Now I'm second guessing myself.  I guessed these suckers might hit clearance so I held off thinking I may be able to grab them around $5ish, which at that price I'd be all over them.

So, I have a contact that could grab them for me at $9.99.  Are these tough in everyone's area?  Still deciding if I should jump on it. Does anyone see them warming pegs anywhere (I only see the utapauu on shelves)

I don;t like spending $30 on 3 packs, but I don't want to kick myself in the rear later if they continue the line and bring out some really nice sets.  First time in a while i've been "iffy" on something like this.

Thanks.

Were they on the older blueish SW carback or the ROTS style orange SW cardback?

Padme/Anakin were out about a year go, and hadn't heard anything about them being released again.  Guessing you may have stumbled on an old one still pegwarming, and if you did, that's a mighty nice find.

curious.

In addition to Bonnie Piesse, Daniel Logan and Ray Park have been added recently.  Also, keep in mind it's possible for changes to occur for various reasons.

Those original Playskool playsets are going for some serious $$$ as well.

There are a couple other GH 2 packs like the obi/jango, and the ST 2 pack that get some nice $$$ as well.  It's intersting.  This line has been very collector friendly.  I may go back and pick up one or two of the older Playskool/GH items I missed before it gets totally out of line.  I'd like to see this line continue, and at the same time hope they don;t get "greedy" and start churning out crap, or bogging down this nice little niche.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Get someone new to run the line!

Please tell Jim Ward the next time he's on national television that...

"Nothing important was ever acomplished without enthusiasm"

Also, for a company like Hasbro dealing hand in hand with the toy/entertainment industry and companies such as Lucasfilm...my god, I feel like i'm in a freaking funeral everytime I go to a convention or sit through a Hasbro presentation.

I work with manufacturers in the freaking food industry and can make a boring boneless ham sound more exciting than the Hasbro team can make a new toy/collectible sound.

Take a look at any industry...for example the automotive shows, they have beautiful women, special effects, loud music, etc. etc. etc. etc.  EXCITEMENT!!!!

What does Hasbro have? A bunch of dull monotone men sitting around slouched over a table clicking aimlessly through a powerpoint presentation.  Good god.

Can we get some Excitement over here..............please?

CIII (probably one of the bigger events for them that year)   Me: "Hi guys what do we have coming this year that's exciting?"
Hasbro rep: looking at the ground or talking with the other Hasbro rep about where they are going to eat lunch "Well, (pause. look down at the ground) here's a poster. (hikes pants, looks away, never cracks a smile).  Shuffles some ads that are on the table, looks at next person, doesn't say anything to them, just kinda looks off into space.

Eh, what do I know?

Hey Hasbro! / Packaging
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:32 PM »
The recent bounty hunter 7 pack got me thinking today.

I really like having that many figures in a smaller window box.  This is much more attractive to me than the recently released and much larger battle packs with less figures.

As a 30 something collector who's been in it since he was 6, and after crossing the 5,000 piece threshold, space is really becoming an issue.  I'm assuming it is with many collectors all of a sudden which is natural after years and years of collecting.  I hope this has been discussed at Hasbro, and was thinking smaller packaging may be the way to go.  When it comes to boxes and packaging, to me, smaller is better.

Just my personal opinion.  Anyone else thinking along these same lines, or am I alone in this thought process? ;)

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: This week in SW Comics.....
« on: January 20, 2006, 02:30 AM »
Both #81 and #82 were pretty good.

Loved to see more of the wookie battle.  Also nice to see some of the nods to past Dark Horse storylines, and also I like how it directly ties into EPIII.

Can't wait or issue #83!!!!!

The comics have been fantastic as of late.  Has the feel that Lucasfilm lightened up thier grip, and gave some freedom over the last few years, seem to be more movie tie-ins and directly related stories lately.

Hope it continues!

Yeah, shouldn;t bump into anything this year.  Actually, this happend for CII also.  I know that's when Tronzo left CII on Sat. night to go to the show, he lucked out and grabbed his $5 blue snaggletooth there.

Feburary is when most SW guests seem to get finalized deals for the show.  We'll see, should know more in a few weeks.  Usually at least 3 or more SW persoanlities there.

I have a bunch of the Dark Horse and Marvel comics signed.  Once we get closer and the guest list is more "finalized"  I'm going to take a few days and dig through all my comics and see what ones I still need signed.  I have most all the artists signed, but there may be more I can get.  I'd like to take some more photos of the artists signing this time around as well.

Eventually I'd like to have some sort of shelved or bookshelf display for all my autographed books and comics, where I can put my 3x5 photos of the artists signing each in front of the corresponding item/items.  Might be kinda neat.

Dates are April 21-23.  Not to be confused with the 2006 Pittsburgh toyshow.

Bonnie Piesse has just been confirmed.  Lots of SW related artists including a bunch of vintage Marvel artists (good, I can get some more autographd)...

Chaykin, Adam Huges, Ron Frenz, Bob MacLeod, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Connor, etc.

Probably a few more actors/actresses will be signed on soon(Feb seems to be the big signing month for this show).

Collector's Tips / Re: Star Wars Action Figure GRADING
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:27 PM »
AFA seems to be the one most talked about in SW.

In my personal opinion...why bother getting it graded unless you're going to sell it right away?  Whats the point?  Why not wait and see what happens?  What if AFA goes belly up, and a new better grading service comes into play in a few years?   ;)

As long as the fig. is well stored and protected/condition won't change, it's a waste in my opinion.

I have all mine in clear cases, and don't care to spend $$$ to have someone basically put it in a case and stamp an number on it.

If I had $500 I'd ratehr buy more sweet SW stuff to add to the collection than get a few dozen figs graded.

I found both Chewie versions.  Am I to assume the small link is the first version, and ultimately be the Harder to find version?

What's everyone else finding on this?

I'd like to get him with the Vader holo, would coincide with him talking to the vader holo in the film.  That's one fig/holo combo that Just makes sense to me.
