From spies at German Toy Fair from JediNews UK (http://jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=10216) (I've bolded the most interesting parts):
A new line called "Mission Series" was shown. This is a 2-figure open-boxed set with a window flap. Packs on display include:
- Vader and Interrogation Droid
- Battle Droid and another character
I have no idea what these are (Black Series or Movie Heroes). Could be really interesting if they are new (like the Kmart Endor two-packs last year), but I suppose they could just be lame repacks too. Hrm.
-
The Interrogation Droid is a little small to really be considered a figure.
I wonder if the figure with the Battle Droid could be a PK Droid since it's small too?
-
If they are going with a 3.75" figure and accessory type (like the IT-O), then maybe they'll have the Battle Droid and PK Droid or FA-4 (unless they release a Dooku).
-

Yeah, is the "Mission" to take advantage of collectors with jacked up prices?" Not too excited if that's the case. We have small vehicles and two actual figures for $20, so if this is Figure + Kind-of-a-figure for $12ish, I'm okay with that. If they're launching these at $15 or more with half-ass secondary figures, then it's an easy pass.
-
I only want Dr. Ball Medical Droid if he comes with Oola and Hot Tub.
"This is a flu shot!"
:D

Awesome. I forgot all about that.
-
Been a long while for an interrogation droid... I bet they can do better, so I'm intrigued in that one.
Methinks the KMart 2-packs opened some eyes... right price, right figures, and sell-through rates taht were pretty much complete. I only see a few Ewoks at any given store, which I hope to see those last few clearanced so I can nab one or two for hood swapping.
-
At CVI, I specifically asked the Derryl if the Kmart 2-packs were kind of a gateaway format for a master/commander, good vs. evil or figure/accessory type of set. Their response, while cryptic, seemed to indicate that something like that was not out of the realm of possibility for the TVC line. Now with the introduction of the Black Series, I see this concept could easily be transferred over. Hopefully it didn't devolve into a figure with small accessory like Vader with IT-O Droid and the like.
-
There have been at least a couple of different Interrogation Droids over the years. The more recent one was bigger than the one that came with the CommTech Vader back in '99. And IIRC, that bigger version was packed in with one of the SAGA Target Exclusive accessory packs, circa 2002/03.
If Hasbro can keep the price on these reasonable, then it might be a cool avenue for getting some droids / bigger accessories out. Because it sounds like the days of the value added pack-in are over. They definitely should not try pricing a figure plus mini-droid/accessory like the K-Mart AT-ST hijack 2-packs. And based on the limited info we've been privy to so far, this sounds more like a Deluxe Figure line than anything else. Given that, a $12.99 MSRP (or thereabouts) would be something I could deal with.
-
I'm more open to the idea if the interrogation droid is very nice... It should be a little larger than the commtech one and definitely needed more detail. Oh, if only it lit up.
-
I wonder if the droid with Vader could actually be this?

Maybe it's AV-6R7 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:AV-6R7.jpg)?
-
So perhaps EU's returning? Comic packs, in a way, making a comeback?
No anger here from me, if it happens.
-
It will probably be the Marvel version. ::)

I kinda like Marvel version too... sucks to get a Vader again.
I think the last Vader I really enjoyed buying was the 2-part helmet one, and before that the TFU battle damaged one felt like a worthy purchase. Otherwise I feel inundated with Vaders that are all different and deserve a home on my shelf, but some are so close to one another I'm annoyed.

Interesting. I definitely like the droid. It actually reminds me a bit more of the search droids on Utapau in ROTS more than anything else.
-
Package art Vader reaching out to crush toy Vader's head. Reminds me of a Kids in the Hall sketch.
In the one photo with the diorama, you can see the pack below the Vader, appears to have a clone trooper and battle droid?
Vader's droid seems to be from Revenge of the Sith http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Prowler_1000_exploration_droid (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Prowler_1000_exploration_droid).
-
Good eye, I popped in ROTS tonight and the droid definitely looks like one from the "construction" scene - though this figure looks to have enlarged/exaggerated appendages. And judging by the packaging and limited articulation on Vader, these aren't part of the "Black series". :P
-
Yeah, I think you're right on that Jayson. Legs on Vader look pretty unarticulated.
Still, if the $10 price point rumor is true, I'll probably still buy it just for the droid and give the Vader to my boys. ::) :-[
-
That droid is from the New Star Tours ride at disney. It is from 1 of the 2 different openings.
great news, awesome droid
Jim
-
Probably the only previously unmade character we'll get all year from any series. Slight pessimism. LOL.
-
So, what all did they show for this series? I think I caught...
- Vader / Seeker Droid
- Anakin 501st Trooper
- 212th Trooper / Battle Droid
- Captain Rex / Battle Droid
- Jango Fett / Battle Droid
- R2-D2 / C-3PO
So, basically, they're two-packs of the $6 for $10. Not a terrible deal, but outside of the new Seeker Droid sculpt, I'm not sure much else here interests me.
-
One thing DD mentioned was that these were going to have a vintage Kenner feel regarding plastic (PVC).
-
Hasbro only had some hard copies of the figures, so when you see the pictures, you might see 'stand-ins'. Especially since the figures are going to be realistic style and there's a CW R2 and Rex in the pictures.
-
I'll buy the one with the droid too... I like it enough. Vader I don't know what I'll wind up doing with it, haha. I used extra coins for quick BB gun targets out my window when I'm bored, so maybe I'll add a figure to the mix.
-
Our pictures are starting to trickle into our image gallery. Here's a look at the Hasbro press images for the first wave Mission Series 2-Packs:
http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Conventions/Toy_Fair_2013/Hasbro_Star_Wars/Official_Images/Mission_Series_2-Packs
-
In general. I'm going to skip these, but the seeker droid does look interesting.
-
I'll probably be skipping the majority of these as well, but I can appreciate the whole two figures for $10 aspect for kids and gift buying (and for collectors as well). I'm not a fan of the whole 5 POA necessarily, but the clonetroopers did look kind of neat in the "these look like vintage figures" sort of way. It is going to be interesting to see how all this limited articulated/lower price stuff does for Hasbro across their various lines.
-
The Vader set with the Seeker Droid looks okay. As for the others? The Jango sculpt actually looks pretty decent. And I'd like to see more of the droids. Otherwise, I'll just wait until I see these in stores.
-
I'm a bit confused. In the images shown, Rex w/ Battle Droid and R2 w/ C3PO are a part of this line too or no?
-
The droids, yes. Rex is an oddity. But these are not the finished product. It's been said no more animated style figures, so Rex and his pack mate will be realistic styled.
-
They are in the line. But those were not the hard copies of the figures, just 'stand-ins'.
-
I'm wanting the Seeker droid enough I'll buy that..
I really hope, if the droids are sort of cheap, they don't go this route with them all... I'd be very bummed if all astromechs were cheap, didn't have a 3rd leg, etc.
-
I see that RS has high-res shots of Mission Series Wave 1 (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/High_Resolution_Hasbro_The_Mission_Series_Wave_1_152037.asp).
I get what they are trying to do and I applaud Hasbro's effort in making figures more affordable again, but I'm still not buying them. I think I've hit my max for underarticulated versions of Anakin, Vader, Jango, etc no matter how nice they look. :-\
-
I like the Vintage look. I'll get them, but probably wait for a sale. :-\
-
Would it have killed them to put the exploding Battledroid (both colors) in these two sets? What about the 2013 MH Jango Fett instead of this one?
The only difference between those and these in the 2-packs is the exploding feature - the articulation on the exploding ones was five points of articulation as well.
I would have been happy with them putting the light-up Sandtrooper all by himself in one of these cardbacks as well.
This is the biggest problem I have with this new limited articulation approach. It gives them justification to NOT carry forward a figure from the past that may have been difficult/near-impossible to get.
-
Gag. Those appear to be the Saga era Battle Droids, not the MTT/Class 1 set version. Hasbro self sabotages again.
Nice stripe on the 501st trooper's leg....oh, wait, there isn't one. :(
Triggers guards are gone on clone blasters. They really wanted a retro look! :P
-
Like Jeff, I appreciate Hasbro trying to get prices down,b ut how about aiming for $8 and still giving us decent figures? $8 would be a nice price to pay, and I'd do without ball jointed torsoes and ball jointed ankles for that. Hell I'd do without ball jointed shoulders and go back to just regular joints there.
Concessions could be made for cheaper figures, but still put out a GOOD figure. I point to Myo, etc., from the POTC era. Dannik Jerricho, Myo... Those are great figures. OTC Death Star Gunner? Great figure (aside from a clone face :P).

I agree with this 100%. I would even overlook a drop in accessories and/or parts reuse where applicable if it meant getting down to $7-$8 again. My Bom Vimdim really doesn't have to be able to achieve the exact same poses as my Anakin Skywalker.
As for the 5POA figures, I like them. They don't seem quite as good overall as last year's Battle Packs (maybe it's sloppier paint? or less sculpting?) but they are leagues ahead of the current Marvel offerings. Assuming these look as good in-hand and if the price is indeed $10, I will probably wind up getting all four sets along with multiples of the Utapau clone. These figures look like fun.
-
Couldn't disagree more. If they are only going to make a character once, go all the way.
Anyway, back to the packs. How is Jango blue again? Why are only limited articulation Jango's blue and super articulated ones purple?
Vader's a strange mix of soft good and not. Looking at him, I think his legs may be one solid piece, as in they will not move individually but as one like the old Clash of the Titan's Charon figure (only example I can think of)...oh, or like a Playmobil figure.
-

The Vader's "uni-leg" piece would all kinds of crazy... and a total vintage throwback. Love it. ;D
-
These look like fast food toys. I think they all suck.
-
This is junk.
-
Agreed, those are garbage, in every aspect. Sculpt, paint, articulation, packaging, etc. What a waste of a toy line this has become.
-
I agree, these are completely skipable, yet I ran into an adult collector recently who was looking for these in Target.

BBTS Preorder (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=3184&category=9518)
$12 a pack isn't too shabby but I'm not touching them
-
Yeah I'm out... I have a bunch of far superior Ani's, Jango's, etc.
If there were something new, like say realistic Clone Wars figures but at the reduced articulation, I'd probably buy. The quality would blow for sure.
I wish they'd find a happy medium... OK, you have $6 figures here... You have $10 there... Why can't we find a mid-point and get $10 down to $8 but still have a higher than $6 quality? Why can't we hit that price since everything they do is based on the pricepoints? Meh.

Just $40 for the Wave 1 set of 4 @ EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSA5228AA&id=JE-405087801)

Same price over at BBTS. I'm guessing b&m retail, or at least WM and Target, will be $10 per set. At least the pricing is right for these new old figures.

I can't Stan-d not knowing what the joke was.

Hah I wasn't even thinking that direction, but now that you mention.... I was aiming larger even. ::)

picked up some clones and droids. great troopbuilders. articulation is weak, but the sculpts are really good. best clone sculpt yet imo.

I've noticed on the Anakin, the lightsaber hilt is painted incorrectly. Instead of just the grips being black, they've paint the activation switch band black as well. Have any of these folks actually seen Star Wars? :P
-
Nice that they could match the orange... :(
Visor looks more squinty, not that anyone could see out of those helmets anyway.
So the heads are old swivel style, right?
-
the neck joints are all swivel. the articulation is as basic as it gets- they even did away with the potf2-era waist swivel. theyre nicely proportioned, and the likenesses are good, but the lack of articulation is just puzzling. im not buying the "kid" logic either- I was a kid when I dropped star wars in favor of the joes.
-
I guess they really didn't want any parts kids could tear off and lose, but don't those droids still have removable limbs?
-
not sure. the battle droid has a removable backpack and blaster, but thats it- his neck is swivel, and his limbs dont come off. I saw r4p17 on the pegs, but i didnt think to check if it was a BAD repaint. didnt recognize vaders droid from the films, so I left him on the pegs. the mission series cardbacks feature scenes from the movies, but it looks like they just photoshopped a made-up droid onto the star destroyer scene. :P though i could be mistaken.

Star Wars Mission Series Mandalore Pack (Darth Maul Obi-Wan Kenobi)
UPC:653569879466
Please be Clone Wars, please be Clone Wars, please be Clone Wars.
New Mando Legs Maul + Red Mando Armor Obi-Wan = WINNING!
Anything else is just a kick in the pants.
-
If it is those designs, they'll still probably be 5 POA :'(
-
Probably, but at least for CW fans it's something.
Han and Chewbacca two pack, after all these years! (Ignores the 25th annivesary set).
R2-D2 and C-3PO
Vader vs Luke (ESB)
-
If it is those designs, they'll still probably be 5 POA :'(
I'll take that even, as long as they make them thin enough to look believable when I swap out some animated heads. ;D
-
A friend of the site mentioned Clone Wars wasn't done totally, and yes, 5 POA... think I mentioned it somewhere around here already but I forget. Basically CW was still a kid-focused thing to Hasbro... At least in their minds they still view it that way. See some collector interest, but not as much as kids liked it. :(
-
Sounds like these and Legends sets have been found at US retail
-
The Mission Series 2-packs had been one of the few things I was *a little* interested to see after Toy Fair. The recent images have been somewhat lackluster. The only single figure that I am interested in is the Seeker Droid, but the Vader in that set is frankly pretty weak. As a result I'm not going to be rushing out to the stores to find these 2-packs. I'll wait until they show up in some respectable numbers and THEN make a decision about whether or not I'll buy into these new minimally articulated figures.
-
I'm kind of in the same boat as Nick... I'm a little shocked people are this wound up to even see these, but hey whatever. I'm just interested (and only mildly) in the droid Vader has with him and even then I'm not sure I'd pay what they want to get one figure.
Otherwise these are all poop, as are the Legends figures.
I'm no more interested in these things hitting really than the goofy 12" figures in the green packaging. :-\
-
I realized waiting ends up paying off, so I rarely do store runs any more. But this time, there's not much out there of interest for me to go hunting, which is great timing due to my move to St. Louis (and subsequently, the house). Still, I'm sure the Vaders will be hanging and I might pick it up for the droid and give Vader to my kids. It'll be a win-win situation.
-

I think it has more to do with collectors being antsy for ANYTHING new, Jesse. This new figure drought has been going on for so long that I think collectors are desperate to get something new, to the point that the quality of the figures is a secondary consideration. Speaking for myself, I know there's practically nothing out there. But if I happen to be in Target or WalMart, reflexively I check out the action figure aisle.
Chalk it up to collector OCD.
-
Yeah that's what I was figuring too. It's incredible really.
Me, I'm just waiting out for TBS stuff, and call it a day... Wasn't the seeker droid even turning up in some other set? A Disney set or something? I know I saw something along those lines but it's been so long. I want the droid... that Vader eats it though.
-
Yeah, a version of the Seeker Droid is also in the Disney Search for the Rebel Spy (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=22917.0) set.
The Disney Version has more arms and antennas than the Mission Series version, but does seem to be built off the Mission Series sculpt. Here are some comparison links (pics too big to link):

-
These are ******* awful.
-
Yup. In some cases on these n legends I'm looking at them thinking they're a little overpriced even. :x
-
Picked these up at my local Target last night.
I'm gonna say the same thing over in the Legends figure thread, but I feel it warrants repeating....
These figures are biggest pieces of crap I have ever seen. I don't understand what the news sites have been reporting that these are "great" sculpts. Great by what standards? Compared to the 1977 ANH figures?
The Battledroids don't stand. You would think that if you're going to design these things with only 5 POA you could at least get the sculpt right so it stands. Nope - the left leg is at an odd angle and since there's no ankle articulation the foot comes down non-level with the left foot and no matter how many times I tried I could not get either the tan or red versions of balance on their own, so I eventually gave up and put them on stands.
I hope this 5POA "experiment" that Hasbro is trying blows up in their face.
This line seriously needs to take a break, maybe go to the Black Series as online only - make the case ratios 2x per case and call it a day until EP7 comes out.
Lastly what is REALLY bizarre is that the ROTS Anakin that is single carded is different from the ROTS Anakin in the mission series 2-pack. Slightly different body sculpt and all - how is wasting money on tooling up crap like this saving Hasbro any money?
-
Isn't that the same crappy battle droid mold from the 2002 Deluxe C-3PO set? The one no one liked and they keep reusing even after making newer, including newer cheap 5 POTA, versions?
-
Picked up the Vader/Seeker Droid for the Seeker Droid. I will admit I like the "vintagy" feel but only if they were like $5 each would I buy them all.
-
I got some of these sets last week at Target. The seeker droid is kind of cool, and the Vader was better than I thought. I bought a coulpe of the Fett set too, which was mostly because my son convinced me to.
The clones looked pathetic though... easy pass. My 6 year old son even said they looked "silly."
-
The clones looked pathetic though... easy pass. My 6 year old son even said they looked "silly."
The real question is, what did your son think about the Clone's helmet? :P
-
Passed on all of these today. Briefly considered the Vader and Jango sets but wound up passing.
-
Confirmed at the SDCC Panel: Wave 2 =
- CW Obi-Wan and Darth Maul (Mandalore)
- R2-D2 and C-3PO (Tantive IV)
- Han Solo and Chewbacca (Death Star)
-
Kinda want that Maul and figure I can use the Obi to make him in his Mando gear maybe? I'm already brainstorming. :)
-
It's so awesome that a different CW Obi-Wan will also be available single carded. I mean, I can go to a overseas ebay seller and buy $10 CW Obi-Wans for under $20. Clearly, the character has never been readily available enough. :P
-
I've only seen grainy pics of the slide with the CW 2-pack, so I will reserve final judgment until I see better photos. What the hell with Obi-Wan though? How do you not put him in the Mando armor? That's like a license to print money.
-
(http://yakfaceforums.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/MS_maul_Kenobi.jpeg)
-
That Maul is awful.
I might have to pick up the 3PO/R2 set though. That 3PO looks like one of the best versions of him we've ever gotten, at least as good as the ROTS version. And since we'll likely never get a BAD version, it'll have to do.
-
Thanks for posting that pic. Yeah, those are pretty weak. Tell me the lightsabers aren't sculpted to their hands...ugh.
-
han and chewie death star :
the han solo anh is the best of this line overall
his sculpt and painting is decent.
this figure is the first 3 3/4 blue eyes Han in HASBRO kenner history.
Also the first 3 3/4 Han which spots the knife cut on the chin.
Looks as the long seeked evolution of Han from vintage kenner articulation.
The chewie figure dimishes the improvements of this set, poor paint job.
-
Can't say that I care for the way these figure look. I think the second wave at least has some cool character choices to suit the concept. The Obi-Wan & Darth Maul set is cool from a lineup perspective. But the execution is in line with everything else in the 2013 Legacy Collection: it's disposable.
That's the mantra for the whole Legacy Collection. I don't know where the disconnect is between Hasbro's message and collector perception. They've been saying they want to do a kids line. THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE KIDS LINE. IT'S NOT MEANT TO PLEASE COLLECTORS.
As for this Clone Wars Darth Maul being in the mix? It's definitely disappointing to see that figure dumbed down to the 5 points of articulation level. But if you're a student of action figure history, this is the way things have been done. Just look back to 1999/2000 and the EPISODE I line that accompanied the release of THE PHANTOM MENACE. A lot of collectors were taken aback by the poor quality of the main Jedi figures in that line. The first few Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn figures were pretty dreadful. Lo and behold, several months down the line Hasbro comes around and offers much better sculpted and articulated versions of both Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon towards the end of that line. And guess what? Hasbro has done the exact same thing in other years, too. They did it in the SAGA line for AOTC, and they did it in 2005 for the ROTS line, too.
This playbook has been around for a while: Get the inferior figures out there first and sell them because it's the only version of a character that people want. Leave it out there for a while, and leave people thinking that this might be the only version they're going to get. Then wait 6 / 9 / 12 months, etc. THEN offer an improved version of the character. What then? Wait another 2 years, and offer the ULTIMATE version of the same character. Hasbro is banking on the desirability of a character to support sales of the low grade figure, and over time they're going to cash in on the improved versions. We've seen it too many times before to ignore the pattern. And I think that's probably what we're in store for with Darth Maul from this final season of Clone Wars.

That is a great point Nick and one I hadn't thought of, there is a lot of history to back you up. I just don't get why they need 2 or 3 different lines. I don't think anyone here would be harping about rereleasing Early Bird Chewie with a new improved VOTC Han. Or why they couldn't rerelease the just released Cody, Luke and Clone. This whole kids hate articulation is a crap argument. If tooling dollars rule your budget why keep reinventing wheel.
-
I think the articulation issue with kids is part of the overall "disposable" theme. Case in point? Some family members of mine gave their kids the BMF Falcon as a Christmas gift. IMHO, that's an AMAZING gift. And those same kids? They got an AT-TE as a gift, too. What did the kids do with them? They played with both vehicles for a few months, but that was it. The last time I can recall seeing them play with either vehicle was only a few months after they'd received them, and after that the Falcon and AT-TE both just sat, unplayed with and in pieces.
Is this indicative of how every kid is playing with their Star Wars toys? I can't say for certain. But there does seem to be a much shorter attention span with this new generation of kids. And I think that what we're seeing from Hasbro as well as other manufacturers are less intricate offerings, since the current crop of kids doesn't seem to appreciate the more elaborate items.
-
Kids have had shorter attention spans since Nintendo... I'm not sure that's a factor that's changed in a while, but I think it is or at least can be a factor.
I think kids not wanting articulation IS BS... My gf's kids preferred the stuff I was buying compared to POTF2 extras I threw their way when they got into Star Wars... Kids when we were younger gravitated largely to BETTER toy lines like GI Joe. Star Wars didn't die a quick death after ROTJ because attention spans in 85 were short... They left SW for better new toy lines. I know I did. Star Wars figures became more arms dealers for Joes I liked, and their vehicles got mixed in as well, as cool clearance buys.
I'm ok with Hasbro doing what it thinks it needs to do to make a cheap line for kids, if they think that's the way to go, but I just hope the line I like isn't ignored completely. I'm hoping future TBS (and beyond) waves start to show the OT love.
-
As for the video game chat - I can say that my 6 year old son and 5 year old neighbor played with their action figures 90% of the time until back in May when they discovered Skylanders on XBOX. Now they spend at least 75% of their play time together in front of a video game. We have to restrict their XBOX time...
Maybe Hasbro needs to work out a deal for a new Battlefront game with a similar concept - you buy the figure that comes with a stand - put the stand onto a portal and you can be that character for the game.
-
Honestly, I think I'll probably pick up the OT offerings from this line (and the Legends line, or whatever its called now). I kind of like the Han/Chewie and droids 2 packs, although it makes it much easier to appreciate stuff like this because we already have near perfect versions of all of these already. I do agree with the point of just re-releasing something like an EB Chewie and Han 2 pack though (or other examples of great figures they already have). I do appreciate the pricepoint of these things though, although we are losing a lot of quality.
I just wish the SW line itself wasn't so segmented, I miss the days of "one line", even if it was just collection 1 and 2 like the POTJ days. I think they've hurt themselves with that strategy a lot as well, having so many different lines vying for basically the same peg space since the stores largely don't care. It may improve since the Black Series stuff is so different than these, but I still think that the line in general could use some simplification.
-
but I still think that the line in general could use some simplification.
I think we are getting that some with the drop of Clone Wars... seemed to me that THREE lines was too aggressive... going back to two lines should help things quite a bit. Now you won't have all those different segments competing quite as much. In the end, that might help the Black Series even more.
With the coming "Rebels" series, I am kind of hoping that Hasbro doesn't launch another whole new mainstream line again. I'd rather see a wave of Black Series figures into the mix instead... others may disagree but I like how they had a wave of TFU figures mixed into the TAC line, personally and would like to see that again... but of course with their distribution woes the past couple years, that could be hard to achieve... I think TWO lines would be easier to manage though and estimate demand for Hasbro.
-
I saw they can all the line come fall 2014 and make everything in REBELS packaging, even it's not in the show. The sheer cross promotion will propel the series to mega ratings. ;D
-
I found the Mission Series sets at TRU today. I was surprised to see that they were only $9.99, and they qualified for the BOGO half off sale, so I picked up the full wave of four plus a couple extra Utapau Clone sets. I am not disappointed one bit. I find the 5poa figures to be a lot of fun, well-made, and they look good on display. I will always prefer the full articulation, but I don't mind adding a few cheaper and simpler toys to my collection.
-
I found these tonight as well in a TRU.. (No BOGO...) I really, really like them. Anikin, Jango, and the Clones are fantastic, and I swear these are some of the most crisp paint jobs I've seen in a while.
The Battle Droids are, well Battle Droids. I wish the had sculpted them a bit bulkier.
Anyway, I'm totally into these, as I think they will be the closest we ever come to true "vintage" type prequel figures. Yes, I like articulation, and I like having the characters be able to hold their weapons with 2 hands, but these are aesthetically very pleasing. I can't wait until the OT guys hit in the winter.
-
Battle Droids are just 2002 leftovers, over the years they've been consistently terrible (due to their inability to stand). It's strange they ran with a ten+ year old mold instead of the MTT "pilot" droids (used in the class 1 sets), which have newer aesthetics.
-
Found these at tru tonight and love them. Four figures for $20? Always. Love the Vader and jango sets. This line will only get better.
-
I saw these today for the first time too, at TRU. Not anything I am remotely interested in, but it was nice to see something new on the pegs I guess. No sign of the 6" stuff.
-
Saw these at our local TRU today as well. I didn't pick any up, but I did have the Vader set in my hand for awhile while we walked around the store. I may go back and get that one eventually, but after recently going through all my figures during this downtime in new stuff, I just kept thinking about all of the Vaders I had and I held off. I do like the idea of these though, and look forward to more OT ones later on.
-
I know I said I wouldn't buy them, and when I saw them today in person for the first time I didn't. :P
-
Sounds like there is an Anakin/Ahsoka 2-pack coming next year. I can only think of two unique combinations of those 2 that have not been done - the Mortis "dark Jedi" interpretation and the zygerrian (sp?) slaver outfits.
either would be awesome of course, but since this is Hasbro we're talking about I'm sure it will be neither. :(
-
Caved for the Vader Droid today... I was on a bit of a long trip so on the way home I hit multiple stores as a reward to myself, and saw new stuff... Not a ton I wanted, but saw new stuff.
On these, and the single Legends figs, paint aps were pretty steadily shoddy I thought, but less-so on the 2-packs to me... The single Legends figures almost universally had bad eye paintjobs. Many looking like one eye was wider than another, lots of cross-eyes... The 2-packs were less standardly bad on the eye paint for some reason. Lots of good, not much bad really, but not much layering in the paint department except the eyes... Hair and things seemed sort of bland in color. No weathering on costumes either, or color mixes to give impressions of shading or anything like that.
I bought Vader w/Droid... It hurt to do so, but the droid interested me. I've yet to open... Still thinking if it was a smart move or not, haha.
-
Is the Vader the same figure as the Bespin Luke, Boba Fett, Vader three-pack from last year?
-
Is the Vader the same figure as the Bespin Luke, Boba Fett, Vader three-pack from last year?
No, it's an all new sculpt
-
Over at Yakface they posted a picture of a jango/battle droid two pack replaced with a black series SA Biker Scout. I want to see someone swap out a saga legends Shocktrooper with a ROTS Shocktrooper.
I'd buy that for $6.

Although I haven't really ventured outside of Target for toy runs lately, I have to say, after initially selling well, the pegs are packed with both these and the Saga Legends figures. Not sure if there is just that many shipping, or if it is a sign of sales or not. I guess Christmastime will really tell the tale with this line. I could definitely see the 2 packs selling a lot during that time, for gift givers/grandparents/parents, etc.
-
I'm ready to say these never sold well near me... So-so, but I can't honestly say I ever saw a complete sell-through of these or Legends yet. Characters I already have better versions of mean I have no interest in them, for now. When they start getting better character choices out, or more usable figures in terms of "fodder", I'm probably into those.
As of right now, the only one I've seen sell of the 2-packs is Vader, and that's still easily found, everywhere (KM, Target, WM, TRU).
Of Legends, only Yoda's selling. I think it's that headsculpt which is pretty sharp.

Our friend tunghori has Mission series Darth Maul.

I believe maul is all sold out already, 90 sold in all, yikes.
-
And for $10 a pop iirc... People are kinda dumb. :/
-
And for $10 a pop iirc... People are kinda dumb. :/
+1
That figure PLUS the Obi-Wan he's packed with are going to be pretty readily available soon enough, for the whopping sum of....
Wait for it...
Wait a little more.....
$10!
Collectors are dumb, impatient people sometimes. They really are.
-
Back when the POTJ Interceptor came out, I watched one sell on eBay a month early for almost $450. I emailed the winner and asked him why he'd do that when he could have gotten one the next month for $30 and he replied that he just liked having things before every one else.
Such a complete waste of $420...
-
Wow on the Interceptor. That's just... wow. Those were crazy days. I waited on all the 2 pack figures for that reason, especially Maul. The Stormtrooper I went ahead and snagged at $6 since he'll be the one we're all looking for.
-
Mauls the only one I want but not at $10. He'll I'd have debated paying $5... That potj interceptor is funny given how obsolete it is to most now. I know I have many regretful purchases and I never pay more than retail. :x
I still break out my commtech reader.
-
I don't mind waiting either, but it does seem pretty lame they cannot get these on shelves before Christmas. How many months has Wave 1 been out already?
-
Picked up the Vader/Star Tours droid mission pack from Amazon for $2.88. Even at that price I won't pick up the others. All I wanted was the Star Tours droid.
-
Yeah unless there's something I don't have better of already these are still junk to me tho that droid is ok for that low a price.
-
Saw all of the 2nd wave of Mission Series 2-packs today. I thought that some of the sculpts and paint apps in the first wave looked pretty good. But these didn't seem that great. Even the Darth Maul, which I had been kind of looking forward to, was kind of a disappointment. The paint apps on this second wave just did not impress me in the least.
-
Where did you see them?
-
A mom & pop store near me. They have a Hasbro direct account, and on occasion they get some new product on the early side. As cool as it is to see some new stock, it was thoroughly unimpressive.
-
Found the second wave of the 2 packs at Wal-Mart today, and picked up the droids and Han/Chewie. These are the first of the newer 5 POA figures I've grabbed. Overall, not too bad I guess for the price. It is tough to say really, since we've been spoiled over the past 5-10 years with some pretty nicely done figures. It felt nice paying $9.96 for two figures though. If these had come out in the early POTF2 days, instead of the He-Man figures, I'm sure they would have seemed pretty great. Now, they're "ok for the price" I guess. I do appreciate the simplicity, and I will say that all four of them stood instantly out of the package without any problems - which is nice too. I think a little more in the way of paint apps could have improved them some as well (particularly on Chewie).
I'm sure it is more cost effective because of fewer parts, but I wonder how much different it would be if they just re-used old figures that have been around (and re-used) like the VOTC Han and Chewie and stuck them in a two pack. I suppose the number of parts would make that more expensive for Hasbro. I think I'll keep picking up the OT ones though.
-
I think Hasbro said at some point that it is cheaper tooling up and producing new 5POA figures than putting older, super-articulated figures back into production.
-
Well, Hell has officially frozen over, like everything else here. I found a fresh case of Wave 2 Mission Series 2-packs at Target this morning! And if that wasn't crazy enough, they had a 6" Boba Fett on the pegs too! I almost felt disoriented it had been so long since I saw a new Star Wars toy on a peg. That old familiar feeling soon came rushing back though, nothing beats the excitement of finding stuff in a store, at least for me.
They had 4 of the Maul 2-packs and I had to inspect them all very closely...I had heard about the sketchy paint apps but I had to see them close up to really grasp how sloppy they are. The most glaring issues are Maul's horns and a lot of errant black paint splashes around the torso arms and upper legs. Only 1 out of the 4 really looked decent enough to keep, I grabbed the second best for an opener and counted myself lucky to have had a choice.
Now I just need that Saga Legends Rex and I am good to go unless they announce something else of note for this year.
-
Good find. Hopefully that bodes well for around here. What did everyone think of the pics of Obi/Grievous and Bespin Luke/Vader? I thought Grievous was a yawner, but Luke is great. Too bad we have to pay $10 for him, since Vader is a straight repack. Both him and Grievous are figures that could serve as single releases, so I'm not sure why they're pairing them with repacks, and it stings to still being paying $10 a figure when the point of this line was not to do that.
-
I'm confused, I thought these were 2-packs, so isn't it $5/figure?
-
Unless you already own it, in which both of these cases you do (Grievous is paired with the SL Obi Wan and Luke with the MS Vader).
-
Found two cases of the new wave at Wally last night. Paint apps are definitely hit and miss so it was nice to have lots to choose from. I like these sets a lot, especially 3-PO/R2.
-
Yeah, these sets are just fun. I have wanted Han/Chewie and R2/3PO 2 packs since 1995.
-
Does anyone know what the case ratio is on the second wave? I found like ten of each set at my local WM and was shocked, since I haven't seen that much new product in one place since the 2008 Legacy launch.
-
Spotted at Target today, 3 Obi/Maul sets, 3 Han/Chewie sets and 2 3PO/R2 sets. I got one of the droid packs, but passed on the other two due to the TERRIBLE paint apps. Obi and Maul had the usual bad eyes that Yakface has been covering recently while Han and Chewie all had various problems. One Han had an arm that was completely unpainted!
-
Okay, so here's a question to Hasbro for Toy Fair. If people have been finding product they want to buy, like Diddly and others, on the pegs, but they pass on them due to horrible quality control (paint apps), then isn't this is another reason that product doesn't move? It's not that people don't want what they put out but they pass on it because the final product is bad.

I like that question. Just to buid, I would like to know what Hasbro's minimum threshold of quality is for each of the SW lines. Does it differ between the different series offerings (Legends, Black, Mission)? I know many collectors were willing to stay on board with lower articulation as long as the sculpts and paints were solid, but Hasbro seems to be burning the candle from both ends.

4 each of 3 sets (Han/Chewy, OWK/Maul, R2/3PO)

Is it me, or is the quality control on the paint for all the product lines slipping? Seems like I've passed on more than a handful of 6" and TBS figures due to crossed-eyes, etc. I've historically not been all that anal about paint apps, so I'm not sure if I'm getting pickier or if the paint is actually worse across the board.
I do not mind the 5 POA figures from an articulation standpoint, but don't want to buy something that looks like a terrible bootleg (unless its actually a terrible bootleg) because the paint is so bad.

No, it's not just you and it's not just this line. I've noticed horrible paint apps on the 6" 'collector's' line as well. I can't say about TBS too much since I've only bought a couple figures off that line so far, so I haven't paid much attention to them.
-
I noticed a drop in quality (paint, plastic, construction/assembly) on some Hasbro products back in 2012, mostly for Avengers movie figures and GI Joes. That drop seemed to spill over to Star Wars in 2013, starting with those "mini-rig" sets in the first half of the year and continuing with various Black Series, 5POA, and exclusive figures. I found the new wave of Mission Series last week, and all samples of all three sets I saw had paint issues. I can rationalize the poor paint on those figures since it's the "cheap" line, but if the Black Series "premium" lines get as bad I just won't buy.
-
Paint quality has been slipping since 2008... So it's not really new even. Washes got cut, etc. I could take plenty of time to list corner cuts. Hasbro's made many for some years now.
-

I think I would relegate fewer paint apps to a different category than sloppiness. It's still Hasbro being cheap, but fewer paint apps don't necessarily mean the figure looks like crap. I had never seen more cross eyes, eyes painted on foreheads, unpainted/mis-painted areas, paint drips, and other sloppiness on Star Wars figures than I did in 2013. I would rather see Hasbro raise prices $1 or $2 if it would keep the figures from looking like toys I painted myself. :P
-
It really all started with the Indiana Jones line. I remember spending hours in the toy aisles searching for figures that weren't cross eyed, or had their hairlines painted in the right spots. I'm not sure about their other lines since I don't collect them, but Star Wars was generally fine up until 2011 or so outside of stuff like Cody's antennas not being painted silver. Marvel has always been hit or miss (can't knock them for having some misprinted lines on Spider-Man), but never too bad until the Avengers line.
-
Agreed there has been a noticeable shift the past couple of years. I recall getting the Clone Wars Republic Assault Sub deluxe set and being stunned how poorly that scuba trooper was painted. I think they must have shifted a lot of their production to inferior factories.
I feel lucky to have gotten a couple of good Maul/Obi-Wan 2-packs, but I had to do a careful comparison among the multiple sets to find any that were passable.
-
I'd disagree with that... You put simply a wash on some areas of a figure (a coat, a hair sculpt) and I think you'd see a vast improvement on a figure's look and quality... Eyes are all over the place now for sure, not so much in TBS but you pay more... Cuts happened there though which have been I'd say relatively as big an impact (since you pay more)... You pay half at the MS/Legends level and the quality takes a bigger turn for the worse, but you also see a lot less of the little things that take a figure to another level even being attempted.
I think it's a little bit of apples/oranges comparing the two lines... TBS with the eye paintjobs of MS/Legends? That's inexcusable on a whole new level but due to price. Not to say MS/Legends looking like **** isn't acceptable, but at the same time, "You get what you pay for" comes into play I guess. Look at the vehicles now... Yikes. The quality's just abysmal. It's knock-off level.
I don't normally agree with the blanket "Hasblow sucks" mantra I read around the net, but things like the new vehicles, ****** paint aps... I can't help but pile on a little bit there. I have a hard time saying anything positive about any of it. It all sucks.
-
I saw a TBS 6" Greedo tonight with an eye deco a good 2-3mm off to one side. Whatever Hasbro is doing right now in terms of factory oversight, they need to lock it up before Rebels and Episode VII merch. hits that's for sure.

Upcoming non-Rebels 2-Packs:
Ep3 Sidious and Yoda
Ep3 Obi-Wan and Grievous
Ep3 Obi-Wan and Anakin
Ep5 Bespin Luke and Vader
Ep5 Boba Fett and Stormtrooper
Rebels -
Zeb and Stormtrooper

Missed another good opportunity to get some Clone Wars inspired characters out there, rats.
That Zeb/Stormtrooper pack looks insanely awesome though, articulation be damned. I'm doubling down on those no question.
Great pics, Jeff!
-
Missed another good opportunity to get some Clone Wars inspired characters out there, rats.
There are at least three Clone Wars figures coming to the Black Series this fall - Rex and two other as yet unnamed clones from Season 6 - but not much else planned for Mission Series or Saga Legends basic figures. Once Rebels gets rolling, that will be the animation focus going forward. :-\
-
Kind of a bummer to read some of the commentary about the fate of CW characters and some PT, like R5-X2. To be expected I guess. I wish they had gotten to R5 in the Amazon set. Anyways, back on topic, Zeb looks like a lot of fun and I love the trooper.
I also really like the Sidious set. I wasn't overly thrilled with the TVC version and modified him with the Bust Up.
-
Part of me is bummed, but mostly about EU characters over PT... PT, I'm PT'd out at this point. They're inferior movies, and the toys were overdone. Maybe just my take on it, but I'm really over that stuff at this point.
I'm bummed about that droid sure, but really that's about it. I can't think of anything else I care about. Lots of stuff I'd have LIKED to have gotten, like Office Duel Palps maybe being the only thing I really wish I'd gotten, but otherwise it's really just a lot of stuff I won't miss. Sometimes I look at my PT stuff and just shake my head at this point.

I'm with you, but I'm thinking that kids in the 10 to 20 range prefer the prequels having grown up with them and Clone Wars in the same way that all of us in our 30's and 40's (and Brent too) prefer the OT.
Which is why I'm hoping the Sequels are good enough to be the new focus... if JJ Abrams does it right, and it sounds like he will, adults and kids are both going to love them. It'll probably mean less prequel stuff even beyond the sequel-centric years that we're about to see.
-
Just noticed that Mission Series Wave 3 is up for pre-order at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HSA5228DD).
I may have to pick up the Yoda/Palpatine set at some point... that's a great looking Palps.
-
I'm good with the Senate Duel Palps from TVC, but yeah that is a pretty solid looking figure that's maybe worthy having next to it. :-\

Courtesy of Sandtroopers - Movie Mission Series sneak peek! click here for the giant-size pic (http://www.sandtroopers.com/newspics/SWR_preview03.jpg)
Pics are just placeholders, but it looks like there are plans for:
- Wicket & Biker Scout
- Bossk and IG88
and a few more... but I can't tell if they'll just be repacks or new figures (Cody, Anakin, Obi-Wan, etc).
-
Some of those look really cool but I have no idea who the characters are or what the media sourcing is supposed to be...are some of these upcoming Rebels packs maybe? Sabine? Kitwarr? Chultro Vizago?!?
I'm even more keen to see some of those upcoming single carded figures...Jedi Temple Guard FTW!!!
-
Yes, the bottom half of the poster is Mission series 2-pack. I heard that Hera may be released as an exclusive.
-
It is going to become very difficult to determine which figures are repaints or repacks as well as which releases to purchase to only end up with one of each figure. I know I'll be tracking down Plo Koon, Bossk, and IG-88 for sure.
-
A lot of cool stuff in here. Bossk and IG-88 especially, Wicket and the Biker Scout, but Plo Koon would be cool in this scale also. A lot of interesting pairings in here and possibilities for the future too. Not too hip on the repacks we seem to be getting, but these seem to sell.
-
Definitely some interesting stuff in there. The character pairings make sense. Although I'm left wondering what that final 2-pack is in the lower right hand corner.
-
I'm still resisting these, but I have to admit that the sculpting seems to be improving as they go.
-
I'd be down for a lot more of these if they were just painted a little better, I don't mind the lack of POA's but make them look better, the sculpts are solid but the shiny coloured plastic look turns me off. POTJ was frequently low POA's but they looked brilliant. My other gripe with these is that the arms are frequently sculpted too straight, it looks off to me, they look better when theres a bit of a bend to them, or even, dare I say it, preposed (ala POTJ). No one duels with a lightsaber by holding it in one hand with their arm fully extended. If they could solve those two nitpicks, I'd be all over these.
-
I found a couple of new-ish 2 packs at target this morning:
Case assortment looked like 4 of each new pack and 4 of the Han/chewie set. I didn't grab the new sets as the paint looked pretty poor, especially on the Grievous figures.
-
Picked up the Luke/Vader pack. Could be out of sheer boardom from not having anything else to buy.
-
When's the Sidious pack supposed to show up?
-
In 10-15 days if you order now (http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/sw-ep2-yoda-vs-darth-sidious?BR=495&SBR=364&ID=33652). :P
-
Weird that that one never showed up on Amazon... if HTS had free shipping I'd be all over that, but as it stands I'll have to wait.
-
There are two cases shipping right now -
The standard Wave 3 case has 4x Bespin Luke/Vader, 4x Utapau Obi-Wan/Grievous, and 4x Coruscant Yoda/Sidious.
Wave 3 Revision Case has 4x Bespin Luke/Vader, 4x Utapau Obi-Wan/Grievous, and 4x Han/Chewie.
The revision case seems to be the more common one so far...
-
Picked up the Sidious & Yoda set today.
The way Sidious' legs are a big mass of plastic reminded me enough of the vintage Emperor to suck me in.
-
I saw the Yoda/Sidious Missions Series 2-pack for the first time yesterday in Target. His face really is that funky two-tone color close-up. Blech.
-
I found the Sidious set also at Target. On my example the paint isn't that bad at all and I found myself really liking this figure for what it is. It's more successful from a sculpt point of view than the vintage figure, which I ended up augmenting anyway with the hood and head from the bust up figure from years back.
-
Same story as the basic Legends I guess (overshadowed by the Black Series stuff), but these looked great too.
Hoth Han and Luke, Dagobah R2 and Yoda, Stormtrooper Luke and Leia - all great sculpts. They'd look even better with some more articulation though... :-X
-
I think i like that Mission Series Yoda more than the Black Series version.
-
These continue to amaze. I know there's been a lot of hate with them, but you can't argue with the sculpts and as Jayson said the Yoda is better than the one that just came out. This Yoda destroys, really, just about any modern one they've done to this point. I like the recent BS one, but this one captures Yoda better. Same is true of the Hoth Luke. The Hoth Han is perfect, very excited by him. Finally they get to Leia and she looks great. Articulation is less and less a factor for me, but I appreciate it where it's necessary. One thing I'd like to see in these figures is the ability for them to hold a saber or gun with two hands. That being said, enjoying all these quite a bit.

Does the Han have a Blue coat? I can't really tell

I'd say from the pics this one seems more blue than brown.
-
It is definitely a dark blue. Not brown at all. Remember they are striving for "Kenner nostaligia" and not accuracy on these figures. ;)

That's cool and all but why did they just make a 6" Hoth Han too? Seems like the new team might be a little misguided :-\

Is it possible that they're taking the tooling for one and using it as a starting point for the other? They just did the same thing with the Boushh Leia 6" and Black Series 3 3/4"....
-
I forgot the word "Blue"...

So they can sell you a brown one later, of course. $$$$$$

TRU Exclusive 6 Inch Brown Coat Hoth Han! Comes in a 4-Pack with Greedo, Slave Leia and ROTS Obi-Wan for $79.99. :-*
-
I'm actually not interested honestly in this toy line because many of these figures here don't have much articulation in them.
-
In case you missed it, Wave 5 has started popping up at Target stores across the Western half of the USA.
In case you forgot, Wave 5 =
- Rebels Sabine/Stromie
- Rebels Wookiee 2-pk
- Rebels Chikatro/IG-RM
- ROTJ Wicket/Biker Scout
- ESB Bossk/IG-88
-
I want the IG/Chikatro set. First one since the Vader droid I've been anxious to try and find... Not counting on finding it in a store though, and not sure I'll look too hard either, but I'd definitely pick that up for the droid at least.
-
I saw some of this wave come in at Target today (missing the Sabine and Wookiee packs). I picked up the Scout/Wicket and Bossk/IG-88 packs, and have to say (prior to opening them) that they look pretty good. I'll have to get a closer look once they are opened, but Wicket in particular had a nice sculpt.
-
I've managed to pick up everything except the Bossk / IG-88 pack. Not bad for the price.
-
Still on the prowl for that alien/McQuarrie IG droid set... Target here is a wasteland really, not that anyone else is reportedly stocking their shelves either.

All of the latest sets are in stock at Amazon

Thanks, Scott. Just ordered the Sabine and Wookiee sets. Vizago? Meh.
-
I picked up the Vizago and McQuarrie IG set at Target yesterday...
This was the first time I bought a figure in a store in eons, and easily the first time I bought something (anything) at Target in over a year I think. It felt weird buying anything. I dig that droid though, and he'll mix in well with others. Vizago I'm debating what I can do with him honestly. He may just go in the fodder box.

Yeah, the $10.99 Amazon version sold out in like 2 hours that day... just the scalper-y resellers left now.

It's been a good week at HTS. Picked up the IG-88/Bossk and Wicket/Bikerscout sets, the next two waves of single carded figs and the Transport. Sabine and the other two packs were in stock, but I declined to purchase them.

Thanks for the tip! HTS has just been going gang busters the past two weeks... :)
I'm going to be really sad to see that Family2015 promo code (20% off, free shipping) expire tonight. :(
-
Wow. Just ordered 5 Mission Series 2-packs for $42 shipped.
After ordering the troop transport and 6 Legends figures for about $50.

Hera preorders sold out.

$%^&*( lunch break!

Missed Hera, but got the others. Thanks for the heads up. It's been raining figures in the last few weeks. It's almost like a dock strike ended or something...
-
But I'm sure Hasbro has nothing to do with anything positive though. :)
-
Couldn't believe it when this last wave went up as well. I picked up the three OT sets.

Makes me laugh every time I read it.

With the supposed demise of the Legends/Rebels line, do we know what is happening with the MS line, and when we will see the Vader/Asohka pack? Have they previewed anything else in this line beyond the Hera wave?
It seems a shame if they've killed the Rebels/Legends line and they have Season 2 starting this summer. I still think there are some great options for figures there. I'm fine if they all come out as two packs in the MS line, but I'd like to see more Rebels content.
-
They've clearanced lines before and not killed them. Perhaps Star Wars is losing real estate while they focus on movie lines like Marvel for now then back with the following reset?

Mission Series continues in Fall 2015. Ahskoa and Vader = Fall 2015. Nothing else shown because of Hasbro's "first rule of Fall 2015 is don't talk about Fall 2015" thing they have going right now...
-
They are not killing the line. Just the cardback.

Does this imply a new DPCI # or do we think the current one will carry over for the Vader/Ahsoka set?
-
Since there isn't any new product shipping for those lines (SL & MS) until fall, I'm guessing they're just deactivating those DPCIs temporarily and bring them back with the line look refresh.
