Title: IG-88 Then and Now...
Post by: Mister Skeezler on November 19, 2003, 10:34 AM
I love the new role for the IG droids.

Growing up, there was always something cool about IG-88, and I remember hearing that he was an old war-droid. Now, that may not make him cutting-edge cool, but it made him mysterious. He was so strange, dirty and battered-looking.

Then, along came EU, and sucked the charm out of 'ol IG-88 with a completely uncreative and ludicrous story about how the borg—er I mean—IG-88 was one mind shared by 5 units. Then came the download into the Death Star 2, etc. Total garbage.

Now, we see a squadron of IG droids riding swoops into battle in the Clone Wars. I'm not sure how you guys feel about it, but I really like this. It brings me back to my childhood view of IG-88 being an obsolete (and illegal) War Droid who wasn't destroyed. Maybe he isn't one of the IG droids we see in the Clone Wars cartoon at all. But at least it becomes conceivable that he's a remnant from the Cone Wars.

I love it.  ;D

I am not sure about the IG issue. It is neat but there is something there that I can't seem to put my finger on.

I'm basically for anything Lucas does to provide background for all the characters that we only saw for a few seconds in the films.

If it's Lucas, and not a conversation between Padme and Anakin, or Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar, it's got to be good.

Yep, I think that the IG looking droids in the CW cartoons are very cool, making IG88 even more of a kickass character.
