Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage Style Figures from Hasbro???
« on: December 16, 2003, 12:31 AM »
I agree with Jesse that consistency is Hasbro's biggest blindspot in the modern line.  Whether it's articulation or sculpting, the pendulum swings too much for many of us.

This will certainly be interesting, however it turns out.  Like many others, I will only be interested if it's vintage style figs Kenner never did, like the aforementioned Tarkin, Slave Leia, Stormtrooper Han et al.  I'd also be hip to PT vintage style figs (Maul and Padme!) but that's it.  No re-issues, and no re-issues with added articulation.

With all the 2003 stuff out that's going to be out, I'd thought I'd decree which ten figs Spuffy thought best exemplified SW this year.  Plus, I'm bored.   ;)

THE TOP TEN

1) Super Articulated Clone Trooper.  'Nuff said.
2) Obi Wan Kenobi Nightclub.  Best Obi ever.
3) Yoda/Chian.  Maybe the best value this year.
4) Wat Tambor.  Classic SW alien coolness.
5) Obi Wan Kamino Showdown.  2nd best Obi ever.
6) Padme Droid Factory Chase.  Once you swap heads.
7) Bail Organa.  Basic no nonsense POTJ style figure, with great accessory.
8 Hoth Han.  Imperfect, but still a great fig.
9) Coleman Trebor.  Same reason as Wat Tambor.
10) Jedi Council Screen Scenes.  They finished the council with great figs.

Honorable mentions: Anakin SC, ARC Trooper, Ashla/Jempa, Poggle, Clone Army builders.

Middle Earth / Re: Lord of the Rings Figures
« on: December 10, 2003, 07:13 PM »
The pics are fantastic.  The Faramir especially, since I'll be able to make a custom armored Boromir from him.  The Witch King looks like he might share parts from the FOTR one, not sure.  Merry is great, and The King of the Dead reminds for some reason of the knight from The Last Crusade.

I got the Boromir bundle a while back.  Definitely worth it.  The only fig I'm still looking for is Gandalf the White.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Wish Lists Time!!!

I think the EP1 Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Maul all deserve figs with as much articulation as the SA Clone; maybe in a few years we'll have the desire again for EP2 SA versions of Dooku, Obi, and Anakin.  And a Mace that does not suck, too.   ;)

If I had room I'd be all over this thing.  I just don't have room for one more thing.  The doors are bursting at the seams with toys!   :o

Other Toy Lines / Re: What is Your Favorite Figure "Scale"?
« on: December 8, 2003, 07:51 PM »
I totally agree.  If the LOTR figs were 3 3/4, they would be even more popular than they are now.  I remember Toy Biz flirted with the idea before committing to the present scale, but felt the hobbits would be too diminutive in the SW scale.  Obviously Play along didn't think so.

I do like the 6" scale, though, and many of the LOTR figs, Marvel Legends, etc., are fantastic.

James, Getting Away With It... Live.  A great parting shot from a truly underrated and underappreciated band.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?

Right now I'm reading:

The Starry Rift by James R. Tripptree

Lucky Starr & The Rings of Saturn by Asimov, which is so bad it's good

Mailman by J. Robert Lennon

Weapons & Warfare LOTR.
