Collect All 92! / Re: Greedo
« on: April 27, 2010, 09:55 AM »
One interesting one coming up with this very issue is the Power Droid ;)

Yeah but I think most everyone would love a modern repaint of the vintage power droid...lol.

I never was a fan of greedo...Not the character, not the figure, etc.  Still, I think the VTSC is pretty dang close for what you need.  Because there were a glut of these selling for $5 each, and I really wanted the stormy Lucas, I got a few of these, and the endor Han.  I ended up removing, repainting and placing an endor Han vest on greedo, and it works pretty well.  Of course, I use him in my Jabba's Palace dio, so its not exactly greedo, but its good enough for my purposes.

I always figured that the mis-colored cantina aliens were just a way to loosely do figs in brightly colored outfits that kids would want from that particular scene.  In fact, I remember the kids I was playing with at the time had multiples of each (there were 3 brothers, and their parents bought them each a set of figs), and they also had other figs, in the same scale.  At first, I thought greedo belonged to a different line.  (of course, being 2-3 and all, I don't remember really watching ANH til after watching ESB about 100 times).

I don't see why they couldn't do a Nebrun-Greedo now...they have both of the molds, so they may as well.  Then again, I'm happy enough that they're using the vintage packaging, so I'll take my nostalgia where I can get it.

That's honestly it, but it's an "it" that bothers me too, especially the holster.  I think better Ford likenesses exist too, but they're few.  That battlepack Endor Han, or the last Carbonite Han I like better.

The Saga Carbonite Han that looked like he was actually Kevin Spacey with wild hair had thrown up on himself?  That (along with torture rack Bespin Han and POTF2 Han) is one of the worst Han's EVER IMO.

Actually, I'd really like to get one modeled after the Star Wars visions print that was posted some time ago - with the big bird skull helmet!  That would be a heck of a freaky tusken!

I know Hasbro isn't really seeming like this is a top priority, but lets face it - all they have to do is repaint the body gray?  They can easily slot this into the line during one of their "We messed up with scheduling, so we're gonna give you a full case of repaints" waves.  Its perfect for the case assortment where we'll get probably a hologram figure, a repaint imperial (probably this one), a new deco E2 and/or E3 clone, some type of alien repaint (possibly cantina alien or a Jawa like Dathcha or Het Nkik, etc) and something else cool that is just a repaint of something we already have.   I do see this as a more than likely piece to show up during this new vintage line, as it really does make sense.

I wouldn't mind a resculpt on the arms, just to give the super articulation in the elbows - mostly so you could do the "overhead weapon pose", or at least sort of.
Otherwise, I do like this one - I think I picked up 2 or 3 of him for a couple of customs or something.  I do want to get the one with the old POTF2 Bantha, but more just because I want the bantha way more than that oddly colored and red furred version TRU had 2 or 3 years back.

I wanted to army build as a kid, but two was quite enough according to my folks. That's why I am the way I am today.  :P

Thats how my parents were with everything.  Even with my He-Man and skeletor figs - I had two different versions of each, and that was enough, even though they made a bunch more.  Probably a good reason why I only had Hoth Luke, 2 leias (Boussh and Endor), and 2 hans (Bespin and Endor - and the only reason I got endor was cuz it came in a 3 pack!).

I only ever had one Stormie, but he got to ride in the dewback while the scout trooper was on his bike!  :)

Its so funny to me, that I don't really care about Jawas.  However, everytime a new sculpt comes out, I buy it just to flesh out my already full Jabba's Palace Court.  I even threw the Clone Wars ones in there, just to be funny.  I figure those things would be everywhere - I mean, heck, we see 3 or 4 of them in the palace anyway, I figure they just chill out wherever they find some space.

I'd love a fully soft goods one, especially if they cover the cloak with the bandoleer to hold the fabric down.  I almost am undecided, however, on if I want the whole hood cloth, sculpted (with the soft goods underneath it), or if I would want a double hood (like the vintage one).  Heck, make all 3 Hasbro - put em with different droids and you know we'll grab em!

I guess my question is just why we have a removeable panel 3po coming from ESB?  His panels were never removed in ESB (that we saw, anyway).  I'd be actually happier with a greatly articulated, vac metalized, "Blasted version" with removeable limbs.  Since we don't have much room in these blisters, they could even ship his head and torso in the upper portion of the bubble, and the lower portion could contain the little box that Chewie carries him in (from the trash room to the apartment) with his arms and legs inside of it.
And yes, this could be based on the U3PO mold and everything would be perfectly ok!(though I wouldn't scoff if they added a few "loose wires" for when you pulled him apart)

I like the Ewok Deity version.  I like even more that I have always seen him ship with the throne, since I can always use the "sticks" as custom fodder for updating my Ewok villiage whenever I put it up.

That was probably because he is a solid color (vac-metal, whatever).  From what I remember, almost every other vintage figure had at least two colors (between body and face) and/or some other play feature (lightsaber, etc).  C-3PO just has to stand there and be Gold, so they probably wanted him to look good doing so.   I will state, though, that the Vintage Vader had some awesome detail work as well.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Darthfloyd's Customs
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:42 PM »
I was asked to host a customizing area, where OSWCC members who customize stuff could display their stuff.  I was also asked to run a contest, where people could pick a few things to enter, and the club would vote on who they thought did the best job.  It was anonymous - the people brought the customs, and we had a master sheet, saying who was what number.  The customs themselves had a number and a short description (so people didn't get the numbers mixed up).  At the end, we tallyed the votes, and gave out the prizes accordingly.

How did it sound montgomery Burns-ish??  I'm a bit lost, but maybe I just missed that episode...

Now that I got the pics from my friend and the OSWCC website, here's some stuff I did for the OSWCC Summer Social.

Vintage ARC-170 Pilot

(made up from the photoshop mock up by Tyranusspotting - )

1st prize in the Customizing Contest I ran - My custom OSWCC 2006 Summer Social Jedi Starfighter (Done in 4 days...I wouldn't doubt it if all of my hair is gray now)

I'm hoping I can get some better pics of the Starfighter (from the guy who won it) and the carded ARC pilot that we gave away (on a pretty decent card, though I can't steal credit from the guy who made it - I didn't for sure).  I'll post those when I can.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Darthfloyd's Customs

Sure.  Here's the Vos recipe (It's kinda long, but its a little more than straight customizing)

Head - Eeth Koth
Hair - Sculpey on top, hair from Eeth Koth with braids attached from POTF2 and TSC2 Leia Boussh
Chest Armor - Hollowed out TSC2 Hoth Vader
Shoulder bell - ROTS #6 Clone
Chest - TSC2 SA Obi-wan
Arms/Belt-skirt/Lightsaber - Clone Wars Kit Fisto
Legs - ROTS Dooku

*The chest armor is different on vos in some of the comics, looking more like clone armor. My fix for this is going to be the armor that comes with the upcoming Death Star Gunner, since it is removeable. I just wish he were out already!
- I kinda did something weird which gives Vos some articulation, but didn't make him very durable (he's fine as long as you don't throw him around and twist his waist really hard). To keep the swivel chest, I popped it and removed the pin holding the stomach area to the chest (it looks like a little T with a roundish top, I think). I dremelled this at it's base and put it back inside of the chest. I then dremeled a hole in the dooku legs to hold the bottom of the "T" and glued it into there. Before that, I used sculpey around the peg in the dooku legs so that it would hold the belt up, making him look like he still has the stomach region, when, in fact, he is very thin in that area. With it being pushed up against his chest, you would never know (plus it looked better to me, since the robe from the chest flows smoothly "under" the belt.
