A 1080p HDTV with HD cable/satellite blows away a standard 36" tube.  However, when you watch non-HD programming on an HDTV it actually looks worse than a 36" tube, because you can see the pixelation and compression artifacts.  So you'd be advised to pay the extra $10 per month for HD programming.

BTW, watching the NFL in HD is about as close to heaven as we can get on this planet.

When it comes to Blu-ray movies and PS3 games, the difference in quality with knock you over.   ;)

Ah...

Well, think of it as an investment in a Blu-ray player then.   ;)

You don't need to replace any of your DVDs.  They'll play just fine in your Playstation3.  And it'll even upscale them to 1080p resolution (if you have an HDTV).  I only plan to repurchase a few marque titles (Star Wars, LOTR, etc.).

As far as multiple consoles go, your TV should have multiple inputs, depending on how new it is.  So you can hook your TV signal into Video1, Wii into Video2, your PS3 into Video3.  Or if you have a receiver hooked up, you can do the same thing.

You don't adjust actual ticket sales for inflation, just money.    ;)

If Spidey 3 sold 300,000 more tickets, it sold 300,000 more tickets.

I saw it on Sunday.  I thought it was excellent, but I don't think it's deserving of all the over-the-top praise that's being heaped upon it.  And while Ledger's Joker was great, I think talk that he can't be replaced is silly.  There are many actors who could come across suitably creepy given that make-up.

And the whole tongue thing didn't work for me.  It seemed kind of hack.  He was much better when he wasn't doing that every few words.

That said, top-notch film.  There were a few happy coincidences that helped the plot move around, but I can't complain too much.  I was genuinely enthralled through large segments of the film.  On the edge of my seat, as they say.  The only thing I felt was a little off-base was Batman's desire to be replaced.  In the comics he does his work because he's driven.  If there were a hundred other people cleaning up crime in Gotham he'd still be at it.  He doesn't want to get back to living it up as a care-free billionaire.  All he wants is to punish criminals who are above the law.  In the movie, Bruce acted as if Batman was an unwanted burden.  A necessary evil, almost.  In the comic, he wouldn't relinquish his quest under any circumstances.  It's his singular focus.  His purpose in life.  He almost seemed whiny by comparison in the film.

It is, as billed, the best graphic novel of all time.  Any comic shop should have it in stock.

Watchmen does look fantastic.  If anyone can do that graphic novel justice, it's Zach Snyder.

It looks to me like she needs to eat any and every bit of food she comes across...

I read somewhere that Michael Bay made her gain 10 pounds for TF2.

And there ain't a damn thing wrong with the way Keira Knightley looks.   :P

The massive hard drive will allow you to "own" HD movies you download off of Sony's new video delivery service.  You do have the option of deleting a film after you download it to make space and can download it again at any time for free, but if you don't want to go through that hassle you can just let it sit there.  But really, even 80-Gigs is insufficient for more than a couple movies.

There are also quite a few games that load a bunch of stuff on the hard drive when you first run the game, to help with game performance.  Some of the installs are 2-5 Gigs.  So you can fit 15 games or so without having to delete anything.

Then there's people who load their iPod play lists onto their PS3 for custom in-game soundtracks... If you want 20,000 songs you'll need some space.   ;)

And I agree with you... there's never been a point yet in this generation of movie players where it's made sense to buy anything but a PS3 for Blu-ray playback.  It's future-proof.  It runs better than most stand-alone players.  It's about the same price.  And heck - you can play games on it if you want!
