Star Wars Celebration had no exclusive figure... CII brought us the first-ever GL fig... And CIII, coming on the eve of Darth Vader's big "debut" movie, saw the release of an exclusive Vader fig.... What would you like to see for a 30TH anniversary con fig?
A tribute to the original Star Wars? In what form? Something again focusing on Vader? Luke? Another Lucas...? ::)
Here's my idea: Focus on father & son, Anakin & Luke Skywalker, not just the first film. A set featuring Anakin & Luke seeing each other for the first time, as depicted in the original Return of the Jedi.
Retool Evolutions Vader with a head featuring the original Sebation Shaw make-up, eyebrows and all. Give him the sweet smile of an old man who's taken a long, dark road to finally find love for his son. Retool the right hand to 1) hold a saber and 2) remove to feature a peg sculpted/painted in the form of severed wires.
Take whatever superdeluxe mucho articulated ROJ Luke you're working on (or have completed) for the (V)TSC line, and sculpt a new head for it. Give Luke the sad look he has on seeing the condition of his broken father. Sculpt a little tear running down his cheek.
Now pack the two of 'em with Luke posed kneeling over dad, on a base with a 30TH anniversary logo and whatever name they decide on for the con ("Star Wars 30TH Anniversary Celebration"?).
What would you like to get from the event.....?
P.S. SW 30TH in L.A.? (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=11701.msg220483#msg220483)

Whatever they do for the 30th, let it have decent articulation.
-
Could care less about the Artic.
Would like them to make a 'talking Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine' like the one I asked for in the Hey Hasbro thread.

If it's an exclusive to a convention, I just hope it continues to be in the grand tradition of being nothing I want, and usually EU.

Interesting idea, but something like that would be better for Jedi's 25th anniversary in 2008, in my opinion.
For the anniversaries of the individual films, I like the idea of specific figures or sets from that specific film itself, as opposed to something from the saga as a whole.
It'll never happen, but for ANH's 30th, I could totally go for a Rebel Ceremony three-pack. New Ceremony Luke, Leia, and Han, with maybe a little mini base to go with them.

Yeah, it's a ROJ scene, but I was going for the essence of the Saga. I'm not feelin' a Yavin ceremony scene, since they're already apparently doing Yavin Luke and Han later this year.
Actually, they should do a goddamn set of theatrical OT DVDs for the anniversary. >:( **** figs. I skipped out on CIII because I was pissed the OT DVDs were sans theatrical. Hope they don't put out a 30th box set with no no originals, piss me off again and prompt me not to go to this one. >:(

Yeah, if those rumors pan out, then I wouldn't be too keen on a ceremony set, either. That scene has never gotten it's due, though. Four figures total (two Leias, two Lukes--all of which suck, and came out before Phantom Menace, and a Han that's never been done before). I've always really liked Luke's outfit, too--and a new one could really kick ass by today's standards.
But that scene's always been virtually ignored in the modern line, for whatever reason. Too bad, too--it lends itself perfectly to some sort of "cinema scene" display.
I don't know what else I'd go for from ANH, though. Getting sick of Vader, and the main characters (in their main outfits) are really played out, too. But that kind of stuff is almost what you have to focus on in an anniversary set.
I wouldn't mind some sort of Luke/Beru/Owen set, or maybe a Death Star conference room set, either--featuring a new Tarkin, Tagge, and CommTech Vader (or a new ANH-styled Vader).

I was thinking a cool idea would be a 3.75' Luke/Han/Chewie 3-Pack, packaged to look like they're escorting Chewie down the DS hallway. My vision of the set:
30th Anniversary Figure 3-Pack:
-Ultimate Han Solo In Stormtrooper Armor w/ Removable Helmet And E-11 Rifle
-Ultimate Luke Skywalker In Stormtrooper Armor w/ Removable Helmet And OLT-19 Heavy Rifle
-Ultimate Chewbacca w/ Imperial Binders And OLT-19 Heavy Rifle
:P
-
30 years, 6 films and Vader's already been done. How 'bout R2 and 3PO? They're pretty Iconic. Perhaps a MacQuarrie set?

No concept art or directors/actors for me, please. :(
-
Perhaps a MacQuarrie set?
That's a good idea. My vision of that set:
30th Anniversary McQuarrie Figure 5-Pack
-NEW McQuarrie Art Darth Vader w/ Lightsaber, Removable Helmet, And SG Cape
-NEW McQuarrie Art Luke Skywalker w/ Lightsaber
-Repack McQuarrie Art Stormtrooper w/ Lightsaber, Shield, And Blaster
-NEW McQuarrie Art Chewbacca w/ Blaster Rifle
-NEW McQuarrie Art C-3P0

Four brand new sculpts for a 30th exclusive? What's the price tag on that, a pint of blood?
-

No blood isn't very good money. It would be around $25-30.
-
How 'bout a Carrie Fisher snorting Coke figure? :P
-
As long as we are dreaming, can I 'uber'-dream 2 3-packs each with a DETAILED half of the Falcon cockpit for a super Cinema Scene. Figs: SA Han, SA Chewie, and SA Obi (maybe all VOTC original figs will work) & Luke (from the upcoming Tatooine wave), 3PO & R2. These figs have all been done and the only thing that would need to be sure of is they are scene specific (can' t remember if Obi had his robe on, if so, hood up or down???) So, with almost nothing new to do on the figures, then how about making the cockpit halves to scale and detailed? Anyway.... that's my idea.

I've been thinking a little more about this, and I think now that if Celebration 4 (if it happens) is presented as less of a "30th anniversary of A New Hope" thing, and more of a "30 years of Star Wars" thing (as I assume it would be), then yeah, I'd be more open to getting an exclusive based around any of the films, and not just the first.
So yeah, that Vader Reveal moment might be good (sculpting the tear on Luke's cheek might be a stretch, though). I also like the idea of some sort of Jedi Spirits scene. They could repack the OTC Spirit Ben, and give us a new Spirit Yoda and Spirit Anakin in the same style--and maybe even include swappable heads for Anakin so that "everybody's" pleased (Hayden's head for Lucasland, Sebastian's for everybody else. . .).
Both scenes tie the two trilogies together fairly well, in my opinion.

That's true. I'd totally go for that. I've really been wanting Sebastian Shaw and Yoda to match the OTC Obi-Wan. I have him with POTF Shaw and VOTC Yoda, and obviously, it's a little off. The 2 heads would be a fine compromise.

I see the future of 30th year of SW.
1. Lucas will re-release the entire SW Saga in theaters in 3D with new scenes and improve the sequences. like he changed Yoda in TPM (its on the ROTS second disc DVD)
2. Celebration IV will be early.
3. Hasbro with release about 100 figures (most of them new)
watch they will make a new Vintage figures with autographs on them or something. the Cloud Car will finally be release also with the Darth Maul's Starship.
4. A brand New DVDs will be release. there will be four sets of them. 1. PT Trilogy Box Set. 2. OT Trilogy Box Set. 3. SW Saga Set. (I-VI). 4. (please release this) Original OT Set (he lying about never release them, he saving the Ultimate set for 2007. watch)
Lucas WILL make a crap load of money in the year 2007.
-
The Ultimate R2-D2. All panels and doors open to reveal his gadgets. Slap him on a card with the Tantive IV corridor backdrop, like the first scene he was in.
-
If I could pick ONE figure/set to represent the entire SW saga I'd have to say Jedi Anakin and Jedi luke; use a fully SA anakin like the evolutions one, with hooded robe and a SA Luke in his Jedi outfit from ep6 with hooded cape, like the OTC one but better. Packege it as Father and Son.
OR package the same Anakin as above with a good design Padme and the same luke as above with the ultimate leia for a father&mother/ son & daughter set.

A whole Skywalker Family set ... Can't believe that didn't occur to me. Jedi Knight Anakin, Senator/Mommy Padmé, Jedi Knight Luke and Princess Leia. Nifty. :)
-
Yeah, just not another pregnant Padme please.
-
I heard a rumor of a pregnant Padme with baby pushing action feature. Booyaa!!!
:P

yeah that'll be sold next to 'ultra pelvic thrust' anakin at your local spencers' gift and other fine adult oriented retail stores

I thought the Anakin came in a wedding night 2-pack with Qui-Gon screaming "Anakin, Anakin" and "feel don't think"

Somehow, I think a "swappable heads Spirit Anakin" is far more likely a possibility today than it was two weeks ago. . .
-
That's not a bad idea at all... And the new ball/socket joints make the head swapping easy in execution, plus they look better on the holo/transluscent figures than the old peg/post styled necks were... It can show through the torso and such.
I'm never sure how I feel about con figures myself, but the spirit set is something that sorely needs updating, no doubt... It's iconic, though not for ANH really. Still its as good a choice as anything I think.
-
What do I think, or what would I like? How about our first ever look at Darth Vader, complete with the blasted open hatch of the Tantive IV as a base/background?
-
I would love to see either the 300th Vader, ROTS Yoda and the ROTS Emporer repacked again!
Now that would be the Ultimate thank to all of us loyal die hard collectors!
Now to be serious: As someone suggested the Force Ghost of Anakin with Shaw or Haydens head. Thats a great idea for a worthy exclusive.
-
For 30th anniversary they should do Luke and Leia as they appear on the classic movie poster, with the rest of the poster as a backdrop. Throw in a rocky base and mini R2 and C-3PO and it would be perfect.
-
Wow. I was going to say the exact thing about Luke and Leia from the poster. Complete with the wierd boots and all.
Too bad Hasbro already re-did the early bird set. It would have been a perfect 30th anniv. piece.
-
One of their Q & A answers this week seemed to suggest that there might be multiple exclusive figures for C4:
Can you tell us what the exclusive figure will be offered at Celebration IV? (JI, 8/11/06) (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=9722)
We are working on them, but it's still too far off to reveal any info. Look for more info at the end of the year or beginning of 2007.
-
We know what they're gonna be;
Target Exclusive: Gold painted Vader.
Wal-Mart Exclusive: Padme with Baby Luke and Leia.
Kay Bee Exclusive: All the pegwarmers we're seeing now all in one box.
Toys R Us Exclusive: Holographic Disco Lando.
K-Mart Exclusive: George Lucas in Boush Disguise.
C-IV Exclusive: Boba Fett with talking base. Says "Collectors are no good to me dead!"
No new sculpts.
And we will buy them all.
-
What is with the extra spaces in between the words ?
-
They look good to me.
Please don't take offense.
-
No offense taken , just wondering what the deal was .
-
You're not the first to complain. But to be honest I'm used to writing this way, and when I've tried to accomadate the complainers by single spacing, I lose focus.
I don't post very often, if that helps.
-
an empty container, thats labeled "the Force".....lol
-
What I want- 501st logo Scout Trooper (VTSC re-paint)
What Hasbro Will Probally Give Us- 501st logo Snowtrooper (POTF 2 re-paint)
-
I'll take that Boush Lucas :P
-
Clone Commander Lucas
-
Viceroy Lucas ;)
-
Lucas in Carbonite!
Or a George Lucas figure from "George Lucas in Love"
Ewok George
But seriously, I'd think something from ANH (or I should say Star Wars since that's what it was called in '77) would ideal. Not sure what, though.
-
We know what they're gonna be;
Kay Bee Exclusive: All the pegwarmers we're seeing now all in one box.
Let's see:
Lushros Dofine
Hoth Darth Vader
Cantina Han Solo
Poggle the Lesser
Major Bren Dedrlin
Bib Fortuna
Boussh Chewbacca

This is a great idea!
-
Maybe they'll do 'reveal' characters :P
characters with helms/masks removed and sculpted actors' heads underneath.
They'll ration that it worked so well with the lucas trooper..ect :P
They could do it with R2, 3PO, Chewie, Vader, Wicket
-
Yah, and they could make variants of the Vader one.... David Prowse, Sebastian Shaw, James Earl Jones, Hayden Christensen... Ok, so JEJ never wore the suit, but still...
-
I'd like those here's a fews possibilites:
Gold 3PO w/ Anthony Daniels Head
Grey 3PO w/ Anthony Head
Chewbacca (ANH) w/ Peter Mayhew Head
R2-D2 w/ Kenny Baker head.....er dome
Darth Vader w/ Removable Sebastin Shaw, Hayden Christensen & David Prowse Heads
Yoda w/ Frank Oz Body :P
-
a reveal 3po would be so easy-just use the basic dannl head and wrap it with soft goods black...thing... ??? as long as they use the ewok diety body...that would be cool ::)
