I know, I know - some people hate this figure because of the action feature... but having one in hand really opened my eyes. If this is considered "crappy" then we are in for a real treat this year with the ROTS army-builders.
To me, an army builder needs to have two things to make it fun -
- good sculpt
- nice articulation
This one has both... the sculpt is great, and the articulation is awesome... the following points are articulated -
- head
- right shoulder
- left shoulder
- right elbow
- left elbow
- right wrist
- left wrist
- right hip
- left hip
- right knee
- left knee
- right ankle
- left ankle
Plus, 7 of these are ball-jointed. The only thing missing on him is waist articulation...
His left shoulder armor is also removable, and can be replaced with a piece that has the Republic insignia on it...
So, what's not to love about this figure? His action feature does not draw away from the figure in the slightest... plus his joints are all stiff and not loose...
I know some people said they were passing on this one in favor of the AT-TE Gunner #38 and Clone Trooper #41... but this figure is nothing to be ashamed of.
I say enjoy this one, he will blend in well with the others, and why chance the other two being hard to find, and having passed on this one when you had the chance? It's a hell of a lot better than the Clones in the SAGA lineup... and IMO rivals the SA Clone Wars Clone. Plus this guy does have peg holes in his feet. ;)
:P
-
I will be getting at least one of these, maybe 2 tonight. ;D
-
My goal is for 2 or 3 of these tonight, depending on how many Blue guards I find. :)
Kevin
-
Yeah, from the pics I've seen it looks to be a pretty nice figure...action feature or not. I'm definitely hoping to grab at least 1 tonight, depending how many are there. I might get a few, but I like to leave some for everyone else to get to, before I start army building. I might wait for the later trooper to do multiples though, we'll see. Like you said, this one might be easier to find :). I really like the look of this trooper, compared to the AOTC version as well.
-
Hey, I said I liked it. Really, I did.
-
Right now my ROTS army has one damn Clone... ha ha... after tonight, I'm hoping for about a dozen or so, and then to keep getting 2-3 at a time when I go on toy runs.
I think this will be the most common on as it is in the first wave of Collection I.
:P
-
I'll get maybe three or four, but not much since we ARE getting an SA version later. So it's worth army building for now.

You are correct CHEWIE, this figure is stellar. I already gathered 25 of these between 2 trips to WalMart and 1 to TRU. I plan on having about 50 total. Outstanding figure. You're right, at most the SA clone can only have waist articulation added. And I love how the armor on the left shoulder can be changed and has both types of rifles included. I can't leave this figure on the shelf, I tried.
-
I'm not going to Army build this one - the giant gap between his legs is too much for me to drop a bunch of money on them. Maybe if they go cheap.
As it stands - the SA clone is coming out and there's that Tank Gunner...those are the ones I"ll be after.

Dude, dont do yourself dirty. At least pick up one. You could always trade it off later.
Kevin

I've got four of them, and they're awesome. The action feature isn't obtrusive, at least IMO.
I'll be buying more of these, for sure. :)

I picked up my obligatory one to open and one to keep carded. Other than that, I'm going to wait for the REALLY good clones.
-
Oh ok. I thought you were just gonna hold out on it.
Kevin
-
Big yes for me. I picked up 10 of these suckers today. With all the pegwarming possiblities out there now, I cant see most stores reordering for a while. So the next couple waves of Clones will probably be scarce.
-
I grabbed 5 of these guys last night as well as 3 Clone Commanders and Clone pilots (and several other figures) . I absolutely love them all. I will be asrmy building with what ever cloneI can find. As for the CCs and Cps I got half of all of them known to be found in CO... ;D ;D
I am also happy to report that I opened every single one. I don't think I'll ever to be able to keep them on a card. ;) It feels good to break that habit. :)
-
I agree he's pretty good as well CHEWIE. Better than I'd imagined by quite a bit. Plus his shoulders don't look nearly as bad as earlier photos did, nor do his hips really.
He's not perfect... No waist articulation, his arms are a little looser and wonkier... His hips do stick out slightly (not a lot, just a little). But I agree that he's very poseable, his coming with 2 weapons is great, and the waist articulation is the one joint that, even though it's missing, it really is the least annoying that it is gone.
Had it been say his left wrist, I think I'd be more annoyed, or if he had no knee articulation or whatnot.
As it stands, he's a good army builder... Better than I'd say every classic army builder save the VOTC Stormtrooper. I'd put him on-par with the Imp. Officer or even slightly superior (but that guy's classic status wins me over), which says a lot since that's been my 2nd favorite army building figure since VOTC Stormie's existance.
-
Honestly, I’m still not a big fan of this guy. I still find the ball joints at the shoulders disproportionate and the action feature hampers the figure from being a good army builder for me.
But… I promptly ripped the ball socket head off, swapped it onto an SA Clone body, and found the fit to be perfect. The color of the ROTS helmet is slightly (just a shade) whiter than the body, but until the SA ROTS Clone hits, I’ll mix and match the two.

Wholeheartedly agree with your above statement CHEWIE.
I had my doubts about this figure as well, it all changed once I got my hands on one. :D He is indeed a great army builder, and was surprised how easy he was to get.
I couldn't believe most people passed him up, managed to pick up 30 of these badboys so far.
He looks alot better in person, and like Jared mentioned you can always swap the head on the CW Trooper (although it sits a little lower). Plus like the AT-TE gunner this clone can sit down, unlike the CW SA Trooper.
You can always use them as background clones, when #41 SA Trooper comes out.
-
I was NOT going to buy this figure..the SA one is coming out soon.
I bought 3...They're good. Much better than I expected....you CAN pose them in very cool poses, even though they've got an action feature...but let me tell you something:
You will never notice it.
-
Yeah, I was suprised how good this looked. My Target and WM were very stricked on collectors not buying multiples. I ended up with one from each store. It's much better than I thought it would be.
-
... action feature hampers the figure from being a good army builder for me.
Hrmmmm how so?
-
I cant put this figure down. I seriously had to put them behind somthing my collection shelf to make it harder for me to pick up and play with. I still have 2 carded I need to crack open!
Kevin
-
... action feature hampers the figure from being a good army builder for me.
Hrmmmm how so?
1) Big bulbous shoulders.
2) Birthing hips.
All thanks to the action feature. Plus, the SA Clone will hit stores within weeks. :)
-
Plus, the SA Clone will hit stores within weeks. :)
Lets all hope on that. I have a feeling alot of us will be left out in the cold. I hit a few different stores today and found that alot of stores only had collection 1 on the pegs and it looked like none had been even bought yet ??? Iwas still even finding alot of Blue Guards.
-
2) Birthing hips.
I was starting to think I was the only one who was bothered by that aspect...
-
It is Hasbro's attempt at Irony...Child Bearing Hips/Stance on a Clone... I get it...
I was tempted to grab a couple but I grabbed the Target cup instead.
-
I am sure that the #41 one will be a little better, but I am not gonna be picky. That one is not out yet, and this is still a very good figure. I would give it a 9 out of 10. The hips don't bother me one bit; just put them in running poses if you don't like that, and have #41 in "at attention" poses for your dioramas. :)
Also, no way in the world am I gonna pass up this figure when #41 will probably be harder to get and produced in lower quantities.
Nothing in the ROTS line will be produced in higher quantities than Colletion #'s 1-12, so get them while you can. This will be the first out of these first 12 to disappear from the pegs.
Right now I have 14 of them. Kinda went a little light on these at first... went to several places today, and believe it or not, only found 1 Clonetrooper out of 2 Walmarts and 2 Targets... and tons and tons of Anakin, Obi Wan, Vader, Yoda, etc. from that assortment.
If you are an army builder, and you don't like it and pass on it, I hope you don't regret it...
:P
-
Currently up to 12, planning on picking up a couple more into the week.
-
BY the way, with the "gape" in his stance...he can actually ride a Taun Taun very nicely...I'll post pics tomorrow. If I can find my speeder bikes, I'll post those too Jesse..
-
Maybe he will fit on a BARC Speeder and the AT-RT then too. Will find out tomorrow. :)
:P

:P
Did you take a day off from work lol?
Kevin
-
Yeah Famine - actually I did. For 2 reasons -
(1) I knew I wouldn't get ANY sleep Friday night (I actually did not even fall asleep, although I tried
(2) I went to a bachelor party yesterday that started at 12pm noon. We started with 4 hours of Dodgeball (while drinking) and then we went to a lot of bars, and it did not conclude until 5am this morning.
I actually went almost 48 hours without sleeping. That was not part of the plan, but I am thanking God that I decided to take a vacation day tomorrow.
The funny thing is, 26 people played Dodgeball yesterday... nobody can move a single muscle in their body today without whimpering and whining. I hurt everywhere from the neck down. Even my toes hurt.
My buddy said that he didn't even feel that sore after boot camp! And we aren't even hung over... I expect to still be sore for several days.
:P
-
I'll shoot you an email in a sec about the dodge ball.
Can anyone post pictures of the Clone kneeling? I can't seem to get him to kneel right!
Kevin
-
I picked up two of these this weekend, but haven't had a chance to open anything yet...but they sure do look cool in the package. It was definitely one of the hottest figures at the stores I went to this weekend, and was one of the tougher finds. I'm really looking forward to the #41 Clone though, that one looks even more fantabulous :).
-
Crap, I forgot there's a better SA version coming out! I bought three of these to open.
This one is okay but the right arm is pretty much static and has that stupid quick draw feature!
Not bad, but I'd trade them for SA's anyday!
-
I'm just as happy with these as I am the CW SA Clone. I will be hard pressed not to pick a few more up.
-
I think this is a great figure - the action feature really doesn't detract from the poseability of the figure. In fact, since I didn't get any Clone Pilots (very scarce in New Jersey) - I currently have the two I got to open, plus the one I got out of my opener cup w/figure set all at the controls of my open ARC-170 - all three of them fit just fine in the cockpit.
They can be put into a variety of poses which is a nice bonus too.
Comparing this figure to the preview Clonetrooper from AOTC or even the Clone Commander that came out in the regular Saga line - this figure blows both of them out of the water, especially since it has the ability to assume both a neutral and a wide variety of action poses.
-
Yep, I really do appreciate Hasbro doing this good of a job on the first version of this figure.
I need to get about 20 more.
:P
-
I am a huge fan for the Clone #6. He's almost as poseable as the SA Clone, and I've been able to have him do just about anything I could want him to do in my dioramas (including holding that rifle at attention with two hands or aiming at an enemy).
I've only opened one so far, but I can't wait to stand a line of 10 or so of them behind an Angry Anakin. ;D
One thing that should be noted. I hear the Target Cup version of this clone is the identical figure WITHOUT the action feature. While I doubt they'll ever be "common", this would make a great army builder too!
-

I believe we just discussed that issue in the Cup thread here, and someone (Jared?) concluded that the Clone still had the action feature. Go scope that out to see, 'cause I don't recall the details now...
EDIT: Yeah, same Clone (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=6930.0). Peter and Simdog both confirmed it.
-
After seeing the pics of the SA Clone coming out later in the ROTS line, I'm not even sure there is a difference between it and the #6 Clone outside of the action feature not being present. The #6 Clone has 14 points of articulation, just as many as being touted for the SA Clone, so what could be different between the two? I'm happy with the #6 Clone, but will certainly pick up the SA Clone when I see it, but I'm not sure on what all the fuss is really about as we'll have two great Clones to choose from.
-

Actually, Clone #6 has 13 points of articulation--he has no waist articulation; other than that, the articulation points are the same.
Can anyone post pictures of the Clone kneeling? I can't seem to get him to kneel right!
Here ya go!

holy poop in a hat i never noticed that #6 had no waist articulation. Ok so now there is a significant difference between the two. thanks for the 411
-
Thank you, Carrot. I cant for the life of me seem to get any of mine into that pose. :-\
Kevin
-
I've been surprised at how easy this Clone has been to find so far. I grabbed a couple early on, thinking I'd never see them again, but over the last couple days I've seen at least 10 of them at a couple different Targets near me. Very disappointing about the lack of waist articulation though. Bad idea to do that on such a potentially popular army building figure.
-
Yeah Aaron, waist articulation woulda been nice... but to be honest, for $5 this is still one hell of a figure.
They seem to be pretty much sold out in my area. Along with Battle Droids...
:P
-
I'd pick one up, if I wasn't so picky. I think I'll wait for the SA version for now. And #6 is everywhere here in Iowa, except at Target, where he's the only figure you can't get. Besides the Red Guard.
-
i've been lucky to find the #6 Clone on every occassion I looked. I think it's worth picking up as its a fine addition to the Grand Army of the Republic, though of course now knowing what I do about the waist articulation, I'll definitely pick up a few of those SA Clones ;D
-

I think you're pretty much solely responsible for the battle droid shortage in your area there Justin :D

Kevin
I feel so sodding retarded. I still can't get it to kneel...
Can some one enlighten me?!
Kevin
-
Well I broke down and bought a second one today. I'm still not sure I can justify buying a ton of these with the Clone Comander, Pilot, and Tank Gunner floating around - plus with the SA clone on the horizon. Maybe I'll grab half a dozen or so...
-
I figure I'm trying to spread it out over figs so I'm not so inclined to want 100 of the SA Clone coming.
I have YET to get any of the other Clones. Just this #6 and the guards, but hopefully soon I'll get the others, and then find plenty of the SA Trooper too. I want a lot of all of them at this point.
-
Yeah Dressel - I'm up to 20 or so ROTS Battle Droids. Gotta stop there. Too much money has been spent by this poor Wookiee!
But damn, I've started buying the AT-TE Gunners and Pilots now... check out Kohl's... they have been getting them in.
:P
-
Current ROTS Army Building Count looks something like this
4 Clone Commanders - (2 more coming from a trade soon)
1 AT TE Gunner
2 Quickdraw Clones
3 Clone Pilots
2 Bodyguards
6 Red Guards
3 Blue Guards
1 of everything else
-
The way I see it, this figure may not be perfect, but he's darn close. I grabbed 12 of him and when the SA clone comes out I'll get as many as I can. However, I am predicting that the SA clone will be hard to find, so I want to make sure I stock up on the current one, just in case.

Yep, stock up on them while you can. I totally agree with that theory.

Yeah, I kinda thought the same thing so I picked up 2 more when they were still on sale for $5 at Target... I have a total of 4 so far.
Jeff
-
I love this Clone Trooper...I still can't believe he was not the "hot" figure at MM...
I have 12 along with:
3 Clone Commaders
2 AT-TE Gunners
3 Blue Senate Guards
4 Red Senate Guards
4 Grevious Bodyguards
6 General Grievious :)
8 Preview Wooks
2 SB Driods
1 Battle Droid

I believe there is only 1 clone commander in the film that looks anything close to this current clone commander that's out. The rest of the commanders from other planets will look totally different, take Commander Cody and Baccarra for examples.
I think you really only can use 1 loose of this guy unless you're gonna customize it big time.
-
Check this auction on ebay. Color variations? Dont think so. Nice try.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2476&item=5969222710&rd=1
It was only a matter of time. If your going to try and make a believeable auction he should of stayed away from those neon colors :P
-
oooh neon clones, what a maroon...
well i bought 6 more Clones today, to up my total to an even dozen. I think I'm going to stop here, as now I have more of these guys than I do of the Clone Wars SA Clone. may customize one or two of these guys if I get good shots of the unique color schemes from the movie...
-
ridiculous auction, but overall i think the #6 is a good figure. I have about 22 (with 9-10 on the way)but i think i may be done with that figure as since then i have found the clone commander :)
-
I think I bought my last Clone #6 today... that gives me around 20 or so of this version...
:P
-
I think I have to agree with earlier sentiments that I'm a LITTLE worried that the SA Clone coming out will be rare. I've had a much higher opinion of the current Clone though and have bought a few... Want some more but they're even drying up in this area at this point.
It's a much better figure than I was hoping, and really I'd say the one flaw I once attributed to him (the hips) really doesn't look bad at all. Not awkward or anything, so that nixes that one. Now I'm just bummed about the waist not turning at all... Does tend to limit him more than I'd like.
Still, better than nothing... better than any Saga Clone... I'll gladly buy more. May even go over your # there Justin, just because I am a little curious to see how "rare" the SA version turns out to be.
-
I agree, I'm a bit concerned about how easy the SA Clone will be to find, but I hope I'm wrong. From what we've seen it looks like an amazing figure, and I actually like the look of these clones better than the AOTC versions. With the exception of places that are higher priced (Shopko, Kohl's), the #6 Clone is totally wiped out here in town at the retail outlets (Wal-Mart, Target, TRU). I have 2 so far, but I hope to pick up a few more if possible. They really are nice figures, aside from the action feature and waist issues, and if the SA one is going to be a tough find, it doesn't hurt to have a few extras of these just in case.
