Title: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Nicklab on December 3, 2018, 11:51 AM
Unfortunate news about HasbroToyShop.com (https://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenericStaticContentPageLayoutView?catalogId=10051&langId=-1&storeId=10151&krypto=RDQc2prV8l94zeuC8GTWt2O9kUQSUw8htWCS0LXgTuEJul7hLDsX8tH0xrc9eq3Ts93WvFFqlo9qZuQ%2FcP%2Bffk519ydNO7s6258yK43tzaOClq7Z5H7nTfYr6g6ThjSwjQst9CxQaJ5SksYCOnHTY8qXsU8zfSSvirZtppdUPVXuI5AYgJA0PMApaLGSsqql0ZrdcxNDjE23DcIKcI3N%2FA%3D%3D&ddkey=https%3AGenericStaticContentPageLayoutView)

From their FAQ:
At Hasbro, we strive to provide our customers with the best possible experience with our portfolio brands. As a valued customer, we wanted to let you know that our brand websites have changed and will no longer sell products directly. That said, you can still access your account and check existing orders using your login at Hasbro Toy Shop. Please contact us at customerservice@hasbrotoyshop.com or 1-800-408-0052 with any questions..

WOW.  I had been relying on HTS for figures at a reasonable price, as well as an avenue for getting convention exclusives.  So this news is disappointing to say the least.  Especially since online avenues like Amazon have been pricing their figures higher than the MSRP.

That sucks. I'm typically the one guy who sticks up for Hasbro but this move blows.

I see it as no big loss. They always had about five figures on sale at a time. It was next to impossible to buy something because it is instantly sold out.

That totally sucks.

Hopefully they can still sell convention exclusives.

I know they weren't the best run site with stock being erratic, but at least they were another viable option in a sea of not so great choices.

Maybe if Target and Wal-Mart could stock their shelves better I could see this change as a way to support their vendors, but I've seen virtually no new product on the shelves at the two largest retailers in the past four months.

I think it's a bit of a loss with Toys R Us gone and Target having thus far not gotten any new product in months... I'd been hoping HTS could fill in that gap.

I'm having a hell of a time finding any of the new stuff these days.

The various avenues drying up has been problematic, to say the least.  Amazon is more expensive now.  HTS gone.  TRU gone (and when is Geoffrey's Toy Box coming?).  Inventory issues at Target.  It's not good.

And there are rumblings that some things might be happening with the Star Wars master toy license when it expires in 2020.  Steve Evans is leaving the Hasbro Star Wars team for an unrelated position in Hasbro working on their own IP's.

I'll miss HTS if they are dying. I know their inability to keep everything in stock bothered a lot of people, but that was due to the complex agreements in place with their retail customers more then they not being run well. They were a help more often then not and losing another place to buy from just makes it that much harder to collect.

Based on the gift card info on the site it sounds like January 18th, 2019 will be the big change day...

Hopefully they can still sell convention exclusives.

I think the fact that EE sold the most recent show exclusives tells you exactly how things could play out from this point forward on those...
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Nicklab on December 3, 2018, 01:45 PM
I don't know if this was a case of HTS dying.  Rather, I think that the big box retail partners may have taken issue with their supplier competing with them, and they got left holding the bag with inventory that collectors got directly from Hasbro weeks before it turned up at Target or Walmart.

Kind of sad to see them go as well. I can't say I ordered from them a ton anymore, but still a couple of times per year (and definitely at convention exclusive time if I was able). As others said, another avenue lost that just makes collecting more difficult. It is almost becoming an online only (EE, BBTS, etc.) game for me anymore - especially for Vintage Collection. TRU gone, our WM is awful, and Target has had Wave 1 since release day.

Looks like HTS will remain alive.  Transformers site seibertron.com reached out to Hasbro and they confirmed that direct brand sites such as transformers.com will no longer sell items but that HTS will continue to do so...

Losing any outlet is bad for consumers, it's bad for the employees of the company, and so I don't ever look forward to losing places like TRU, KB, Kmart/Sears, or this bit of a collector scare.  I've landed a lot of stuff from HTS over the years, and in some cases they've been first for things.  I know lots of folks got the new Forcelink figures there when they have only made scarce hits at Walmart so far.  I know I've only seen the latest Solo wave one time and only the leftovers at that.  I still need Rio and L3 for sure and most of my friends still need all of em.  I hope they restock those soon.

HTS is in Pennsylvania too if I'm not mistaken, so it's another business here I hope holds out.

The Sears/KM closings finally hit near me, and one of the two K-Marts I have fairly close by is closing shop.  They were the only stores here who had Wave 1 TVC at first besides Target, who was picked over on day 1 (IE: No Hoth Rebels).  K-Mart I stacked some coupons and wound up getting 6 there all below retail between my two stores.  It'll suck having one less place to check, but it's a sign of the times.

RIP Dave Coulier, but yeah, thankfully still gone.  Cut it out.

TRU gone (and when is Geoffrey's Toy Box coming?)

We had a Geoffrey's Toy Box open up inside our local Kroger mega-store. (Grocery chain) It is the lamest assortment of crap you could possibly imagine. Dolls and puzzles and board games and junk like that. Disappointing to say the least.

Looks like HTS will remain alive.

Hasbro sent out some clarifying info today re-iterating the info from yesterday that it is the sale of items through the brand websites (transformers.com, nerf.com, etc) that is ending.  You can still purchase items, access your account, and check existing orders using your login at Hasbro Toy Shop.

However, today's email also made it pretty clear that changes are coming to the HasbroToyShop website starting on January 18, 2019. Stay tuned for more details.

Very strange.  Some clarification from Hasbro seems to be in order.

To further muddy the waters?  The HTS storefront on eBay is still alive and kicking.

I honestly wonder what leads to some of the sales decisions at Hasbro. For example, Vintage waves 2 and 3 have hit retail and have been available via EE, Dorkside and the like. But, have not appeared on HTS yet. I'm dumbfounded by this. Now they're making changes, limiting the amount of options consumers have to purchase from. It would make sense for HTS to revamp their business model to boost direct sales, but given what a hassle it's been throughout the years to simply purchase certain products, I fear they're headed in the opposite direction.

Best and only toy shop it should say.

I've been to plenty of Targets and Walmarts and I've found either nothing at all, or just Vintage wave 1. If hasbrotoyshop means I can actually get a ******* new figure sometimes, I'll be happy.

I gotta defend wm here...  I’ve gotten tanker after tanker and wave 3 galore at it.  I’ve not seen death troopers or Enfys Nest too often but I’ve seen many of the rest here.  Walmart May **** the bed some but I’d say they’re no worse than anyone else.  Target has been a wasteland for me for a LONG time now.  Wave 1 TVC they went ham on and never seemed to realized that.  They have had steady forcelink restock but so has wm, and Target hasn’t had any of the newest wave yet.  It is definitely cyclical.

I’ve gotten a lot at HTS over the years too...  they were first with the new tie fighter and stuff.  They were first behind amazon to list the latest forcelink figs too.

But when it’s available I’m preordering TVC at EE first here.  Just spare me the headache at this point.

See, I find that fascinating Jesse.

Out here, all of our WM's manage their toy departments to the point where I wonder how people keep their jobs. Half of our stores don't carry Vintage collection items. Each store gets exactly one case of exclusives, and that's it. I had a discussion with someone at WM.com who was either lying to me or woefully ignorant of their job because I knew what they were trying to tell me was factually incorrect. I've driven several times from NC to PA making every rest stop at WM. Again, inconsistent management the entire way.

On the other hand, Target out this way is reasonably consistent across the board. Always have the same items in stock from store to store, will always get their exclusives consistently enough to find them within a month.

Yet, I hear of WM's elsewhere that are a dream with reasonably consistent restocks of new items and exclusives. I've seen pictures. I'm so curious as to why the wild disparity.

I also think people over value what it means to be "toy manager" at these stores. I was the toy manager for multiple years at Target.

WM isn't perfect here, and I'd dare say they probably aren't all that different it's maybe just more that stores aren't as plentiful, and nor is population comparatively speaking, to CA, and I think that probably is playing some part in it...  I have WM's I hit routinely, but none are a stone's throw from my house.  Even my GF has one close, and two more reasonable, but they're all some driving up or down the freeway depending which ones I'm heading for.

Target is even more sparse here generally speaking.

One store here is really small, actually a renovated Ames, and it sucks...  It's the only reno WM I've ever seen, it's nearer the city than the ones I frequent further out the highway near where we are...  It's just different and sounds a lot more like what you experience Ant.  It sucks, has a small toy area, small stock of anything, and it's always a mess.

On the topic of Exclusives, KM and TRU were every bit as good at getting exclusives as Target, but WM is obviously not even in the discussion there, lol.  They're ass at that.  They'll get 90 TVC TIE Fighters at any given store but the TVC figures everyone wanted, who knows where they even are at this point, what happened...  it's just a mess.  I hate them on exclusives as much as any of us do.  That's Target's crown there at this point.  And Target toy areas are always nicer, it's just how they're run.

I agree with you too Nick, I see too many people blaming the poor dude at the toy aisle when they catch him there...  It's like finding the fabled "Hasbro Rep" too.  Those people don't know much either.  I was friends with some of them locally here, and they were quite open with telling me they honestly don't have any clue what's going on with the line unless it's something THEY collected and had the desire to learn about.  Otherwise it was just helping keep their product stocked and neat.

I try not to get mad at retail workers...  it's hard work for little reward generally.  And we obviously have a microscope on this line, and know the stores inside out at this point in time since we've all been at this for eons now.

I do get a tad pissed when I'm talking to customer service at any store though, and I know how their store operates, and they just lie to your face because they just want you to leave and don't realize YOU know their job as well or better than they do because you're an obsessed collector lol.

Currently I'm peeved at WM.com because their ship to store is ass and their site has not let me add a pick-up person all f'n weekend long...  THAT I may bitch about because they're the ones who delayed my order for no reason and now won't let me add someone closer to pick my damn tank up! >:(  Amazon has its **** together far more than WM.com does.

EDIT: BTW Ant, I **** you not on this, I randomly went into WM last night and found a full wave 3 case, and all of the Solo Forcelink figs...  That store had just put out Wave 1 TVC too this past week, and sold through a lot of them to boot!  Now Wave 3 again...  it's nuts.  And the Wave 1 selling is maybe the weirdest thing.  The Hoth Rebels still are going first, but even Rey and Kylo are selling ok, Jyn some too.  FO Troopers and Snoke though?  Nope.

It’s multiple stores tho is the thing man.  I’m talking 3 on one highway, 2 our near my gfs family, one down near the kid’s college...  and I hit two of them religiously.  Like multiple times on the weekend and a couple times in the week.  And I don’t have a store in my immediate area they’re 20-30 away for my nearest two stores to me personally.  But when I have a Dr appointment I stop or whatever.

I'm very seriously considering trying to replace the 250 stormtroopers I already own with the new sculpt and cost aside, I feel like there just won't be enough available (in the sense of me having access to.)

Definitely hear you on that. The thing that's crazy is so many collectors would buy a boatload of standard troops if given the opportunity to get them without having to double up on unique characters. I don't need a Vader for every 3 Stormtroopers I buy, but I'd happily buy cases of solid Stormtroopers, if Hasbro were to create one, ultimate Stormie. It seems like it would be so easy to offer this. All the hunting for Rebel Fleet troopers and Stormtrooper individually on the pegs, quite frankly sucks.

What the terms don’t mention is if you get to opt out of the premium service for 2020 before they charge your credit card that $50 for the new year. I would hope they would give users the option to renew or not

Ok so wait, there would be one commander (upcoming) and two drivers (released and impossible to find) per tank, right?

I think there's a commander, driver, and gunner.

☝️That.

Though one could argue not all tanks have a marked commander but I like to think they all do so I need a ton of those guys too lol.

Nice, I placed an order for the 6" Black Series Archive Boba Fett, always seem to miss him in stores. So I guess that means I'm in the club for 2019? I don't think I got any kind of confirmation email or anything but I wasn't reading all the fine print either.

I placed an order for my squad of Scarif Troopers and I just tried to pre-order the other three, but Leia was pre-sold-out before I could complete my order, so I just abandoned the purchase - I'm not worried about the other two, just Leia since she's only 1-per-case (for some stupid reason)

They can re-organize and pretty-up/modernize the site all they want. If they don't offer product we want at a reasonable deal, then what's the point? Not poo-pooing the new site yet, but I really don't see a difference beyond cosmetic changes. The product is still limited. No Vintage wave 2&3 and what happened to the 5 POA figures?

I ordered Yak and Klaatu this morning to secure them in the event Target and Walmart don't get these. Was anyone able to use PayPal to pay for their purchase? It's listed as an option in the cart, but when you get to payment method you only get the option of a credit card.

I was reading through the terms, and it seemed to me if you used PayPal for checkout that you might not be eligible for the year long membership.  That part of the terms was not completely clear to me, and I was kind of glad to use my card instead of PayPal (which I had been doing with my HTS purchases).

It says any purchase before the 23rd gets you Hasbro Pulse Premium, but I had the same question.  I pre-ordered the Skiff (due in Sept), but since you have to pay now, I assume it counts towards the membership.  I haven't seen an email confirming this, but it says on the site that they will send out emails to confirm membership by the 24th.  Clearly its not an automated communication.  I'll post if I get something that confirms.  Nice "free" deal to save the $50 even if the program isn't all that.

I got my first two packages delivered from Pulse today.  Both arrived in great condition.

Did anyone get clarity at Toy Fair on what is really new with Pulse?  Is it just their TBD subscription service?

The packages I received seemed to come in the same HTS format via FedEx.  Same boxes.  Same packing slips.  Same everything.

It really doesn't feel all that different as of now, but maybe with their subscription service it will be different.

It is supposed to have more of a "collector" flair now so the stock will trend older or more collector focused (no more kiddy games or fur real pets or toddler toys or whatever).  Also  pre-orders for collector items, which HTS never really did.  Rumors of some exclusive or direct-to-consumer items/lines (GI Joe rumors).  And of course the subscription service when that is finally announced officially.

Their stock seemed to last about as long as HTS' did.  A few minutes/hours depending on what you were looking for.

I do like that you can pre-order our of stock and not yet released items though.  That is new and appreciated.  I'll be interested to see how good they are at managing and fulfilling pre-orders.

The condition of my first order wasn't great.  I ordered Yakface, Klaatu, Leia in Boussh disguise and a couple of Scarif Troopers.  They weren't packed with condition in mind at all.  Sure, there were the air pads in the box, but everything in the box was just rattling around all willy nilly.  And the cardback on one of the Scarif Troopers was a complete bent up mess.

The functionality and navigation options of the new site seems better than HTS.  I'm waiting to see how Hasbro will utilize this site as their own personal news outlet.  And from what I read, I'm expecting an email from Hasbro Pulse on the 24th about the Pulse premium option since I've already placed three separate orders (TVC wave 4, Skiff and Skiff guard 3-pack).

Similar experience for me on the order I placed for 3 Scarif Troopers. I missed the other three, so I have pending preorders for them, plus for my MOC collection, a case on preorder from EE.

I did fair a bit better as Nick though, only one of my three Scarif Troopers came with any "damage" and that was only dings on the end of the cardback and a small crease near the hook hole. The other two are in great shape and for now I'm opting to leave it carded pending getting a better one in the case I get from EE.

However, they weren't when I decided to pull the trigger. The Skiff was available, though, so I pick up another. I also happened to notice that the order is in the process of being charged, which I thought was odd being it't not shipping until October.

According to the new FAQ on Pulse Premium (https://hasbropulse.com/pages/hasbro-pulse-premium-terms) that went up today, there is no auto-enroll for 2020 -

Depends on the item.

If you missed the vintage figures when they were in stock and pre-ordered them, I believe they are expected to ship March 18th.

The Skiff and Skiff Guards 3-pack are both scheduled to ship sometime either end of August/early September, but that's so far out, I'm sure it could move between now and then and the date they've posted is probably a moving target.

If they got stuff faster I’d be more worried about it... but they seem to ship a month later than all the regular retailers.

I just got an e-mail from Hasbro Pulse that my premium membership is about to expire.

I have no complaints.  I got the free year when I bought something in Feb 2019.  Then the free year got extended six months.  Then extended again.  Basically two years of free shipping at no cost to me.  Sad to see it ending, but I more than got my money's worth. :P

Not sure if I will re-up (unless they change the price structure).  Amazon has been doing a better job getting things in stock and with free prime shipping, that'll probably be my #1 choice when I can get it.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Dave on February 17, 2021, 09:45 AM
The only thing that may entice me to pay is getting early access to SDCC exclusives, although even that this year was a bit of a mess and not a guarantee.  I managed to get the The Armorer, but didn't get Cad Bane.

As others have said, the free shipping alone isn't worth much of anything when Target and Amazon have pre-orders going up at the same time and offer free shipping.  Target even gives me a 5% discount for using their Red Card.

I'll be interested to see if they extend the free Premium service again or really make people pay for it.  I think the last time they extended the free service it came late and was a surprise.  I know I was still on the fence about it when it got extended last time.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Nicklab on February 17, 2021, 09:57 AM
I'm going to go back and look through my orders for the past year.  Because whether or not I opt back in is going to depend on what my actual shipping charges would have been.

The complicating factor for Pulse is that when a lot of these pre-orders get announced there's a rush for people to buy from Pulse.  And a lot of those presales will sell out quickly.  So will the number of orders I make from Hasbro Pulse over the next year make it worthwhile to buy the membership?  Will the shipping savings offset the cost of the membership?

....So, having just looked through my account, and the orders for 2020?  I had 24 orders from Pulse.  That would equate to about $2 and change per order for shipping.  With that in mind, plus the early access to some convention exclusives, I think I'm going to pay for the membership going forward.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Rob on February 17, 2021, 10:21 AM
I had 11 orders that shipped from them since last February, and another 7 that are currently pending / unfulfilled.  1 of those is a Razor Crest... 3 of them are the Retro wave which I was trying to get pre-orders in as things were becoming available or bouncing in and out of stock.

So it's not a huge value, but if I shop like I did last year, it's probably worth it.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Mister Skeezler on February 17, 2021, 11:55 AM
Aside from the two Razor Crests I ordered, I've only made 4 orders in 2020. Two were delivered, one is pending (unfulfilled) and the last I canceled, because Pulse was taking it's time on the Tantive hallways and Amazon had them in stock with free next-day shipping. How much is the membership? It kind of sucks to feel pressured into giving them money for a possible SDCC exclusive that I may or may not want. Free shipping doesn't really mean **** if nothing is ever in stock.

The Vintage Collection exclusives are the only reason I would re-up. But those were few and far between and only guaranteed an earlier attempt at the purchase.

I swear they used to waive the shipping charges on purchases over a certain amount but I can't find that info in their Shipping policy. The free shipping could help sway me.

I like to keep an eye on this page for the latest deals they have running - https://hasbropulse.com/pages/promotional-terms

HasbroToyShop used to have lots of free shipping promos, but with Pulse, the free shipping has been much more limited as they hyped the Pulse Premium thing to get free shipping instead.  Free shipping promo codes do show up for Pulse from time to time, but not nearly as often as they did when they were HasbroToyShop.

I’ve thought of that same thing Matt...  does a drop in members mean the service then becomes worth it since figures are more available?  While I spent last year, my spending decreased dramatically as the year wore on.  For whatever reason, pulse went from a reliable place to preorder to them having incredibly short preorder windows on much of their product.  The Gonk wave seemed to be among the earliest to start to sell out immediately.

I would be a pulse member if they could somehow guarantee accounts two figure limited preorders, or some format like that.  I’d be a loyal pulse subscriber and general customer.  But they don’t seem interested in that, or I’d think they’d have mentioned it.  Something akin to that was in a questionnaire they sent out but nothing seemed to come of any of it.

For me Amazon has now become more reliable with EE and bbts next.  Pulse, it’s usually PO sold out before I’m even off work, or hell, before I even get a moment at work to try with my phone to get an order in.

I loved pulse when it worked but when it doesn’t, I’m just hard pressed to pay for that then.

Does anyone recall how much the subscription is?  I got mine free with a purchase like most, so kind of need the cost to know if its going to be worth it.  I'll probably renew if its $10-15 as you can eat that up quickly with just a few orders.  If its $25 or more, I might be out.  I can never find what I want in stock there anymore and need the extra money to pay up for things on Ebay if this is the model going forward.  I like the speculation that more stock will be available with fewer members, but not sure I buy it.  I think a lot of people will just pay the extra shipping to lock in a pre-order - still better than having to pay sold out prices on Ebay or somewhere else.

I would be out at that price.  I've probably bought enough items to offset that with shipping, but paying $50 when I could order at most other places for truly free shipping?  No thanks.

Agreed.  I would only be in it for the exclusives, and right now those are coin tosses as to if you can land one with a membership.

It's probably better to bank that $50 and spend it on scalped exclusives on eBay.

This is exactly why I'm thinking of paying for it.  Remember the exclusives earlier this year that we were able to get because of being a Premium Member.

There is literally no reason they cannot guarantee everyone with a Premium Membership every single one of their exclusives. Limit it to 1 each, provide a window of time to put your order in or they go back into regular inventory.

I’m still pissed about missing the Exclusive Armorer figure this past year even with the Premium access. It didn’t help at all. That gives me very little incentive to pay for anything unless there are guarantees involved.

I was surprised at how quickly the allotment of convention exclusives for Pulse Premium members sold out last year.  Granted, there was a general release offering of a lot of the same exclusives the following day, but it was annoying that you're participating in this premium level membership and can't get the product.

Well, if I signed up for premium and did not get the exclusives prior to sell out, I would absolutely expect a refund.

I think it will be easier for premium members to have access for getting exclusives through pulse mainly because so many won't renew.

Right?! You'd think the manufacturer would have enough on hand at least.

You have to remember that Hasbro has to walk a very fine line here.  They are trying to sell enough copies of a figure to be relevant and make it look like they are helping the collectors get stuff, but not selling enough stuff direct-to-consumer that you hurt their wholesale businesses with BBTS, Dorkside, EE or even big shops like Walmart and Target.

HasbroToyShop used to have pretty strict rules about how much of a product they could sell until after a certain point when they could then sell through the stuff that the other retail shops didn't order (overstock).  I am guessing Pulse has to play it pretty similar to that.  If everyone who wanted one could get one with free shipping from Pulse it'd be ideal but it's never gonna work that way. :(

THIS!

I was at a Target store this morning and ran into the Hasbro Rep.  It's the same guy who has been working in our area for years.  I asked him about the general inventory situation, and he agrees that it's ridiculous that there's barely any product on the pegs.  He had a theory about it - that whoever at Hasbro leads the sales team for the Target account hit their sales number, and they may  not be aggressively pursuing additional sales.  I think part of that could be an unfortunate side effect of the Target Clearance Vulture phenomenon - collectors waiting for Target to put items on clearance and THEN they buy them at the lower prices.  But he also had a very significant point to share.  Right next to the 4 feet of Star Wars shelfspace was some MOTU stock.  And you know what?  There was product on those pegs.  He said that when you're in the aisles having product that you can look at is effectively brand advertising.  Sure the Star Wars section has that Mandalorian banner with Din Djarin and Grogu on it.  But what good does it do if there's little or no product to buy?  He was proposing that core characters like Mando and the Child should almost be pegwarmers to keep the brand present in people's minds.

He and I also talked about Hasbro Pulse.  Notably because he had set a reminder on his phone to buy Wrecker on Hasbro Pulse at 1 pm.  And he said exactly what Jeff said - Hasbro Pulse has to walk a fine line, because otherwise they might be hurting their big dollar accounts like Target and Walmart.  Target has around 1900 stores in the US, and Walmart has around 4800 stores in the US.  So suppose they get 4 cases of each wave of TVC figures per year per store.  And let's figure 6 waves.  That could mean over 40,000 cases of figures go to Target, and over 100,000 cases go to Walmart each year.  These are just ballpark numbers, and conservative ones at that - just in the US.  I didn't even figure in Best Buy or Meijers, which are respectably sized chains.  Hasbro HAS to serve those accounts before EE, BBTS, Dorkside and Hasbro Pulse.  So Pulse will get smaller allocations.  They're just playing the game according to the numbers.

I'm generally fine with Pulse selling out quickly since they've got to cater to retail, but then don't charge me for the Pulse subscription.

The nanosecond that SDCC exclusives are available isn't worth paying for either.

They need to keep their subscription free.

Exactly. At the very least base annual membership on a certain $ threshold. If you spent at least $50 with us last year we will offer you the Premium for nothing. That seems fair to me.

They seem to be pushing it hard now.

I see no reason to sign back up before SDCC exclusives, and even then I doubt I'll pull the trigger for $50.  They'll need to drop their price or offer better incentives for me to pay for their Premium service.

Given the scant TVC on the horizon, I see no reason to renew right now. I will do like lots of others and go back if the SDCC exclusives are worthwhile. Hope they don't require membership prior to a certain date to be eligible for early access.

Same as the rest of you...  I just can’t see spending $50 for something that as of the past 8 months or so has been utterly useless for me.  I don’t work at a computer all day to sit around watching for product to drop only to have a 5-15 min window to get any of it.  Sometimes I’ve been able to because of the timing being right, but it’s been quite some time since anything I wanted there was available to me.

I got lots of use out of it for a while when it was new, but as of right now it looks like setting $50 on fire more or less.  :-\

If things were better maybe.  I truly wish there was some “guarantee you 1x item or figure” kind of deal.  Then, hands down, I’d buy in and get extras elsewhere.

Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion
Post by: Rob on March 2, 2021, 10:45 AM
For me these memberships are about convenience.  If I don't quite squeeze $50 worth of shipping out of them, that's fine.  But they were the only place I was able to get pre-orders in for the new Retro wave, there's convention exclusives access... and occasionally they just make the most sense to buy from.

Spitballing numbers, but if I end up paying $50 for $30 worth of shipping, but it saves me some time looking for stuff, that's worth $20 to me.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion

Do we even know if they're doing convention exclusives for 2021?  I get it that the 2020 ones were already in the pipeline when the convention was cancelled, but with 2021 I wonder if it will be the same.

Not sure it makes sense to have virtual conference exclusives...

I agree it's about convenience. Thus I'm out. The exclusives aren't that exciting so I'm not paying for a better chance of getting them. I've found Amazon easier for basic releases and faster. So TVC fig cardback condition would be the only Pulse real +.

How bout the "finish the 96" figs are Pulse exclusive, not WM. Then $50 becomes much more palatable.

The plot thickens?  Thanks to Jayson for pointing this out (https://yakfaceforums.com/main/2021/03/02/hasbro-pulse-adds-partner-exclusives-section-to-website/) - Pulse has added a "Partner Exclusives" (https://hasbropulse.com/collections/partner-exclusives) section.

If this means they are going to give you a chance to nab retail exclusives via the Pulse site (in limited quantities - the initial TFers listed say "Exclusive to Walmart with limited quantities available on HasbroPulse.com"), does that increase your likelihood of going with the Pulse Premium service?

Or will it just be increased frustration to see even more stuff sell out in the blink of an eye before you even knew they were up for pre-order? :P

As much of a PITA as it is to hunt down exclusives at Walmart and Target, it’s still a million times better than the Hasbro exclusives. Those things are gone in a flash and NEVER return. So this latest news doesn’t move the needle much for me I’m afraid. There needs to be some kind of guarantee, at least on their own stuff.

If you signed up for Pulse Premium at the start, then you got the Pulse Premium membership perks for free for not one, but two years.  So now we're paying for these perks.  I agree with Rob, the onus is on Hasbro Pulse to make this worthwhile for the people who have paid for this level of service.  If they step up and deliver?  Then I'll renew.  And if not?  See ya.

Is there a deadline for signing up for this? The only Hasbro stuff I collect is TVC, and I have no interest in the retro stuff...at all. If they have no TVC stuff coming, then Pulse Premium is beyond useless for me. So I'd basically be paying $50 to maybe get access to an exclusive I guess?
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion

It probably depends on if the 12 months is the same for everyone like Gentle Giant, or if it’s 12 months from your sign up date.  If it’s the latter, I’m sure they’ll happily take your money at any point in the future.
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion

To Jeff's question, yes the Partner Exclusives option would be enough to get me to sign up if it means they are offering other retailer exclusives on their site.  I generally don't have issues with Targets near me, but Gamestop, Walmart, BestBuy, Walgreens stuff is a pain in the arse to track down.  I'm sure it would be worth the $50 in time and money spent trying to find those figures.  I collect Marvel too, so that would help me out more than most I guess.  Still would need to have sufficient quantities to make it worthwhile.  If they have retail partner exclusives for all of 2 minutes and then they sell out, its still not a benefit.  I might sign up sooner to give it a shot though if that's really what this is.

Yeah I think Hasbro's going to have to tickle the balls nice before I pay $50 to never get anything from them. If I collected Black Series and Transformers, Gi-Joe AND The Vintage Collection it would make sense, but I need to see that it makes sense for this single-issue voter (I vote with my wallet for more TVC).
Title: Re: Hasbro Pulse / Pulse Premium Discussion

Four months into this and I've seen literally no benefit from it.  Kudos to those of you who didn't bite.  I have pre-orders with them all the time, but I find every single new items on Amazon or at Target long before Pulse gets them, so the free shipping is worthless.  No early-access stuff for Star Wars... not a single bit of free shipping... If they got stuff at the same time as other retailers it would be great, but they are perpetually 4 or 5 weeks behind, so it's pointless.

I think I want to email and ask if they'll cancel it.

Good point on the convention stuff… I might as well wait until at least then.

And yeah, Pulse is going to wither if they can’t ship at least reasonably close to when other retailers can.  I’d assume it’s on purpose to keep their partners happy, but it hurts the concept to have it be this slow.

Delivery estimates from Pulse are literally MONTHS behind other retailers.  And it's not an exaggeration to say that!

The TVC Maul & Ahsoka wave is already turning up in Asia, and a number of online retailers are saying that they're going to ship this month.  But Hasbro Pulse?  They're saying September.  The reissue wave has been hitting retail for at least a month or more.  Amazon just shipped me the Royal Guards I ordered.  But Hasbro Pulse orders are still outstanding.  I get the balancing act they have to do, but it's ridiculous.

As for the convention exclusives?  I remember how things shook out last year.  There was an early ordering window of some of the Hasbro Pulse Con exclusives for Pulse Premium members, and I know that I got shut out on at least one of the items despite my membership.  I was able to get an order in the next day, but it was pretty maddening that my membership didn't guarantee that the day before.

So, I pre-ordered whatever TVC waves include the repacks of Ackbar, Han Endor, Luke Hoth, Royal Guard, Game Greats figures, etc. several months ago from Pulse.  They were all mixed in one order as I'd rather just group orders when possible and don't mind waiting for everything to show up before they ship.  My email has been lighting up the last 48 hours with notices from Fed Ex and Pulse about these figures being on the way.  Got the first package today - one lone Royal Guard packed in a box with an air packet, but still the card is bent up and the bubble is dinged.  Are they really going to ship each of my eight figures in separate boxes?  I get it if you're doing it to ensure the product arrives minty fresh, but that's obviously not happening.  No wonder they have to charge so much for the membership if they're paying to pack and ship each figure individually.  What a waste.

This is one of my biggest complaints about Pulse.  It'd be nice to one could filter out all the fulfilled orders to see what's still outstanding.  And also, that if you're checking on one order on Page 3 and go back to look at the next, you are sent back at Page 1.  I've just learned to open each order in new windows, but it'd be nice to have a little convenience.

I actually love that they catalog all of your orders, fulfilled or not.  Maybe they could organize them differently, but I've had to go back a few times to check on what I've ordered or have just been curious about what I paid and I love having all the info there.  It takes maybe a minute to scan back through prior orders?  Worth the wait to have them keep all that detail in my opinion.

Oh!  Nothing wrong with having all the previous orders, but I'd just like to have a filter feature so that if I'm looking for my open and/or partially fulfilled orders that I don't have to scan through each page to find what I want.  Especially since I do most of my ordering through Pulse and I probably have 15 pages to peruse (granted some of the last few pages are totally fulfilled).

It would be nice to be able to see what’s in the order on the order page.  It’s easy enough with the price tag on the Crest to find it, but opening up a whole bunch of nearly identical $14.xx or $28.xx orders to find the one I’m looking for is tediously designed.

I think Hasbro might actually be listening.  There's now a feature where you can filter your orders between Fulfilled, Unfulfilled and Partial.

That's a great start.  I'd still love it if it showed what's in the order on the order page instead of having to click in the order to see what it was.  Also, a thumbnail image of those items next to their names would be super helpful too.  It takes me way too long to find the one item I'm looking for when I find it elsewhere and need to cancel something.  Maybe that's the point. :)

Hooray!

Edit: I was looking through an unfulfilled order on the 2nd page and when I went out of the order, I was still on the 2nd page!  Glad they fix that, too.

Glad to see those new filtering options.  It would also be good if there was an archive feature, along with the ability to filter out canceled orders.  Those still populate in the UNFULFILLED filter.

Something insane just happened.

Mythrol and Kuiil just got here, shipped from Pulse, in the same box.

I'm flabbergasted.

I don't understand what you're saying.  They can't fit both figures into one box and mail them at the same time.  Was this maybe a dream or something you saw in a movie?

You were right Matt.  Turns out the two figures were actually in three boxes.  My mistake!

So i noticed todaywhen trying to get the latest preorders in, that Pulse has changed their free shipping model for non premium members. It used to be that an order of $50 or more would get you free shipping,  but thats no longer the case. I ordered two TVC Dins and one TBS Darktrooper for a subtotal of $64 and i was charged $6.99 for shipping.

Not too long later i made an order at Amazon but for 5 Dins & a Darktrooped and got me free shipping without Prime. Plus Din was $1 cheaper per figure.

Now that Pulse has limits on purchases, its hard for me to reach whatever their new free shipping threshold will be. Considering,  they are often way behind other retailers at delivering items, the change is going to see me ordering from them far less I think...

Yeah you either pay one way or you pay another way… due to them selling out, I’d seen no reason to pay for premium at that time.  Now?  Eh, it’s become a definite gamble to buy into the program.  Will I make 8-ish purchases a year from them?  I’m just not sure.

The irony of the situation is, had they left things as they were, I was totally ready to just chuck a rft pack in for the free shipping and be done with a pulse order for extras.  Now?  Ehhhhh

The flat shipping fee is not bad but a deterrent if there are options.

I am not a Pulse Premium member, but that might change this year with the 3.75" Retro O-Ring GI Joe line being a Hasbro Pulse exclusive line.  Since I'm not going to want to constantly shell out an extra $7 shipping every time they list a new Joe O-ring figure 2-pack for pre-order, I'll probably just bite the bullet on the premium membership and hope that the costs work out.

Yeah I don’t know if I could make 8 or more orders over whatever the threshold is (I can’t find it listed on their site) to justify the $50 Premium membership. Not when I can get almost everything at Amazon, Target, or Walmart with free shipping and often for less (did I mention Target has the Darktrooper for $2.50 less than Pulse and Amazon?).

Jeff - so the o-ring retro Joes are all exclusive to Pulse? If I had confidence that they would make a deep lineup with consistent releases that could compel me on the membership. But I don’t see Hasbro having the attention span once they get past the handful of characters they always dole out and then repaint ad nauseum.

I've got the membership and buy pretty much everything on Pulse.  I'm pretty patient and don't care if I'm the last to get things.  They're pretty reliable and my stuff comes minty-fresh.

How much was the membership, $50?  I had it for the first year, but haven't renewed and don't think I will.  When I'm forced to order from them, it's $5-10, but most of the product is available elsewhere with free shipping and sometimes at a lower cost.  I initially ordered two Dark Troopers and two Din from Pulse yesterday and probably would have just kept it if the shipping were free.  Then I found everything on Amazon and Target at lower prices with free shipping, so cancelled my Pulse orders.

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with all the cash grabs.  Significant increases in figure costs, no more free shipping, expensive membership fees, year out preorders...they're going to price/stress some people out of buying and then wonder why sales aren't meeting expectations.  I have a bad feeling about this.

So it looks like free shipping for non members is no more at Pulse. Just ordered the throne room and two TBS figures and there was a $6.99 shipping charge ($10.99 for “expedited” shipping). For most items, like JMan just said and I mentioned previously, when most items can be found elsewhere, for less price and free shipping, Pulse is going to be a tertiary option at best for most orders going forward.

JMan - did you find Tank Driver Din on Target? I can’t locate a listing there for him. Thanks!

Nope, just the Dark Troopers.  I went with EE for the Tank Driver and ordered the case which comes with two of them.  They have a $15 off coupon 2103212 and free shipping, so it knocks the price of the figures down below $13 each.  I just did that for the Yoda and 501st case as well.  I figure it's cheaper, they'll probably arrive in better condition, and I don't have to manage multiple orders for the 5-6 figures in each case.  Yakface has a link to the case on their main page if you want to go that route.

I did end up buying a Pulse Premium membership today (what's another $50 on top of $490 for two Throne Room playsets?  ::)).

I'm going to keep track to see if it's worth it this year and then let that determine what I do for renewal next year.  Hopefully it's worth it between the GI Joes and other potential Hasbro Pulse exclusives.

How does the $6.99 flat shipping rate work for large preorders, is it per order or per shipment / box? If I were to have combined the Throne Room Set with some individual figures expected to release a full year earlier, would I only be paying the $6.99 once, or multiple times?

That's a good question.  I think it must be per order.  I just tried building a new order with four items and it was still $6.99 shipping.  I can't imagine they would come back and charge you more if they shipped separately.

Are any of you guys having trouble with logging into Pulse?  WHen I do after I click the "I'm not a robot" thing, it says there's no such account and takes me to a page to create an account.

I was able to order from my phone no problem.
