I have one. The pieces are overwhelming, but I finished in a day.  :D

I have one and I am disappointed with it. The front section seems to be a bit to heavy and it is starting to bend foward. I have to make a little piece to put under the fron to keep it from bending more.
This could have easily been the best Lego set to date.

When I contacted Lego about this problem they said not all of them do that. ERRRRRR!!!!  >:(

I have one. At first I was very very very happy with it. Then after a few weeks of it being put together the Front of the ship started to look funny to me. The entire front started to bend foward due to the weight.
So I called up Lego and they told me that there are two versions of the SD kit. The first one has the instruction booklet with a printing error. So I was sent the update book. Again the ships front started to bend foward. So I am pretty upset with this set. I guess other large sets have had many problems as well.
So what I did was take the ship apart and redo it for a third time. But only this time I superglued the thing together. The front is once again starting to bend foward due to the weight. So I made a little lego brace and have it under the front to support it.

A nice set but with the problems... I give it a B-

I saw this thing for the first time in person this weekend at the Lego shop at Disneyland's Downtown Disney area.  The box is HUGE!  It was big enough when I looked at it from the front, but when I went to pick it up, I suddenly realized that the thing was almost a foot deep too!  Wow.

I didn't check the price on it there, but will during my next visit, since it's the only OT Lego set that I don't yet own and I'm starting to get mildly concerned that they might not ever show up at retail - though I still think they eventually will.  So did anyone else out there besides David pick one of these up?  Just curious if others have had the same problem of the ship sagging like David's did...

I haven't bought one of these, but I think they're $300 if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, I have one of these. Built and currently displayed on a coffee table in a corner of my SW room.  ;D  Yes, it takes a whole coffee table roughly 2' by 4' to display this thing, it's that big.

I have not had any of the sagging problems that I have seen other people report. Mine has been sitting there for several months now and looks the same way now as it did back when I first built it. The only thing I could possibly think as to why some sag is maybe they aren't making sure every piece is firmly pressed into place. Especially when it comes to all the plates that are used in building the hull. If you aren't pressing those together firmly, I could see how sagging could happen due to the weight of this thing.

I'm not so sure this will ever show up in retail. Due to the hugeness of the packaging, the retail price of it, and seeing how retailers got burned by other larger expensive sets like the UCS Yoda and RBR, I have to think that retailers may shy away from a set like this.
Title: Lego Star Destroyer question
Post by: Violentfix on May 3, 2005, 04:10 PM
Well, I finally did it, I ordered the Lego Star Destroyer from Lego.

I was wondering,  Does anyone here know of a good collector display case to use for this item?  I'd hate to have it sitting out collecting dust.
