I'm hoping that this will be the Titanium repaint version.  I could care less about the pilot...

Really?  Any interest in splitting cost to get just the vehicle loose?  I'm only interested in the figure... ;)

I bought the first modern version, so will likely skip buying a second one despite any possible paint variation.  I'm hoping the pilot will be kitbashed from a Tycho or something, so I don't feel tempted to get it just for him!

As long as the pilot's good, I'm down with that.

Just like the Y-Wing this last year I'm in. I wasn't really collecting too much when this ship first came out, so I never picked one up. I'm in for one with an updated paint job regardless of the pack-in.

Gawd, I hope it's NOT the repainted B-wing. While a neat design, I want MOVIE renditions only for this ship. I already have it, but would gladly purchase another, especially if it has a human pilot.

Don't get me wrong, I do too. I'd love to see more of an updated weathered look, while still being movie accurate, like the Y-Wing and the 2002 SAGA A-Wing. Hasbro has gotten a lot better at painting vehicles recently and I think it'd be a shame to have a straight re-pack. Give it the move accurate deco with some new weathering and I'm a happy camper.

Possibly. If anything it would be cheaper for me to buy it and ship you the figure than the other way around. Keep me in mind when this starts to roll around and we can discuss it then.

I hope it's true and that shelf stickers will be seen everywhere (including Canuckia, ahem).  :)  The TRU-exclusive Y-Wing is still showing up here, so I'm optimistic and look forward to adding it to my collection.

Title: Dagger Squadron B-Wing... 4 Potential Ships?
Post by: Jesse James on June 5, 2008, 01:31 AM
I'm starting this for its own topic since it's unknown yet if it's tied to the EE mystery pack or not, but Ghost of QG certainly found something interesting on Hasbro.com...

I think it is a Pilot 6 pack and here's why. In the new Rebellion comic there is a squadron of B-Wings referred to as Dagger Squadron. Ok. Now on Hasbro's website they have an instruction pamphlet for a Dagger Squadron B-Wing. On one of the pages it says you can customize it 4 different ways and tells you the pilots names:

Lt. Netrem Pollard(Squadron Leader), Black Dagger
Vin Nothos,Scarlet Dagger
Callen Troyt, Gold Dagger
Nera Dantels, Blue Dagger

Here's the PDF link:
http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/87764.pdf

Just an FYI to you guys. Whatcha think?

So what's the deal?

A ship with stickers for 4 "unique" looks?  Interchangeable armament for the fighter too?  Interesting...

I'd never heard of them, but it's interesting.  I wonder too, will there be more then tying to this storyline?  Tying product together is potentially cool I guess, but how many folks are really gonna buy 4 of the B-Wing?  Yikes!
Title: Re: Dagger Squadron B-Wing... 4 Potential Ships?
Post by: Daigo-Bah on June 5, 2008, 01:44 AM
Good find by Ghost of QG.  I'm not interested in non-film versions of familiar ships, but I am curious about the pilots.  Do they have the traditional red flight suits?  Could be a way to get some variation out of the Ten Nunb sculpt!
Title: Re: Dagger Squadron B-Wing... 4 Potential Ships?
Post by: Nicklab on June 5, 2008, 01:48 AM
I believe that Dagger Squadron is actually involved in a current storyline in Dark Horse's REBELLION title.  I recall that the pilots were sent on a first mission for the B-Wings that might also be a rescue.

Given the timing, I think this is much more likely to be a LEGACY release than  30AC.
Title: Re: Dagger Squadron B-Wing... 4 Potential Ships?
Post by: Jeff on June 5, 2008, 01:56 AM
So what's the deal?

I think the "Dagger Squadron B-Wing" shown there has to be the rumored TRU exclusive B-Wing.  In a Q&A answer, Hasbro said...

As for the rumored TRU B-Wing, you will have to wait a little longer for news on that. We will say that it is not tied to the OTC, but, in fact, something else is brewing in the Expanded Universe that we do not want to announce just yet.

Since they confirmed the 2008 TRU B-Wing is not OT, but rather EU-based, it seems to fit nicely with this instruction sheet... ;)
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Jesse James on June 5, 2008, 02:09 AM
Yup, and they've been saying something was "special" about it...  it'd be special if it tied to the EE 6-pack too, and it's unique with the differing stickers for different pilots and whatnot.

A unique direction Hasbro's going with this for sure...  With its EU-ishness, will it be popular though?

Cool stuff...  I'm guessing the B-WIng isn't anything new, which sucks, but at the same time I didn't expect much either.

I'm all about the pilots...  I almost hope the ship itself doesn't come with a figure and that the EE pack makes up the pilot pack-ins...  That, would be ideal.  I hate pack-in figures I want with ships I could care less about.
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Brian on June 5, 2008, 09:27 AM
Cool find, and like others have said, it matches up with the B-Wing rumors/confirmation for TRU later this year.  Its kind of a neat idea, but like Jesse said, I wonder how much it will fly with collectors since it is pretty much based on an EU concept (and not really a well known one at that).  That said, with all the Jedi starfighter repaints we've gotten the past couple years, its not so bad that they are making some different versions of the OT ships for people to build up squadrons.  Its not likely something I'll be picking up, unless its quite spiffy, but like everyone else - I'm interested in the potential pilots.

Post by: Jeff on June 5, 2008, 09:32 AM

Sorry to dash your hopes, but the instruction sheet says "Includes ship, figure and labels."

There is definitely a pack-in figure of some kind included... too bad it doesn't say who.

Multiple sticker sets is an awesome idea. I'm sure they could boost x-wing sales if they did it for one of those.
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Ghost of QG on June 5, 2008, 11:08 AM
My take on this? Good for Hasbro. Even though the ship is an old mold, they are trying new things and not making the same pilot figures over and over again. People wanted EU, and now we are getting them. Even though it is a bit obscure, I like the fact that they are shaking it up a little and creating more diverse figures and ships, and , IMO, I think Hasbro has realized to an extent that they will have to dip into the EU for their figures a little more regularly now. Here's the great thing: If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you do like it, grab it up. Either way it does make for interesting conversation....

Nice find Ghost!

Cool stuff...  I'm guessing the B-WIng isn't anything new, which sucks, but at the same time I didn't expect much either.

Looks like they at least tweaked it a bit..

- firing cannons
- turn engine nozzle to open wings (I don't remember that)
- activate switch under engine to retract landing gear (ditto)
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Muftak on June 5, 2008, 12:44 PM
The wing and landing gear features were definitely on the vintage version...it was one of my favorite toys as a kid.
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Jesse James on June 5, 2008, 03:17 PM
Yeah, the last two features are on the original...  The cannons were separate pieces as it is, so really they just tooled up new stuff to plug in their place.  Cool effort there, I admit, but still a bit of an underwhelming ship to me...  Enough I'll be annoyed trying to get the pilot pack-in it comes with.  :-\

For the record too, it's a pretty nice ship/toy in general, just underscaled which is why I'll be passing on it other than the figure.  As toys go though, I think the B-Wing is the OT equivalent of a Gunship personally.  It was my favorite as a kid.

Good news is maybe I can sell the ship for (hopefully) one of the other pilots to someone on the boards. :P

It's odd they went with the sticker route to create the respective decos. But, once we apply one set of stickers, what do with the rest?

Maybe they could have made plastic panels/disks that snapped on achieve the same result with the added benefit of being able to reconfigure the B-Wing's deco at will.  :-\
Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: iFett on June 5, 2008, 03:31 PM
Wow.  Brainfart on my end.  I think I only took a few minutes to "play" with the ship before I hung it from the ceiling.  I still remember how excited I was to get the POTJ one as I didn't even know this ship was released in the vintage days - another brainfart.

So I'm looking forward to another release.  I really dug the colorscheme on the titanium one that came out awhile back so it would be nice to see it painted up like that version.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I could care less what the figure looks like.

So is anyone thinking about getting four of these so you can have one for each member of the squadron?

I'm hoping that the figure the ship comes packed with doesn't change, 'cause then I'd need to buy EIGHT of them!!!!  :-\

Hopefully the figure is always the same and then I can just get four to open, one to keep MIB and then hopefully at some point the other three pilots will be released.

Why 8??

$-one for each member of the squad, then another for the actual figure in the package and maybe another to keep boxed. So that's 6, but why the additional 2??

I'll likely just buy one of these. I don't know the squad. Were I to put them in a diorama, it would likely be in a seedy alien bar or readying themselves in a Hangar. I wouldn't need each characters own B-wing.

Post by: ctonra on June 9, 2008, 12:22 PM

I think he was saying eight if they had four variations of the B-wing with the different Pilots.
Then it would be four to open and four to have boxed.

I didn't think there were and collectors left in the wild like that.   That could collect all the variations plus one to open.

Ah, point taken.

Title: Re: TRU B-Wing Starfighter (Dagger Squadron?)
Post by: Pete_Fett on June 9, 2008, 08:26 PM
Yes, there are some of us in the wild left.

For example, I have four of the new White large wing TIE:

Pristine White opened
Pristine White MIB
Dirty/Gray-wash White opened
Dirty/Gray-wash White MIB

I bought one each of all TAC figures including variations. On only some did I buy more to open (mostly troopers I wanted and the Pit Droids)

I bought all of the TAC battlepacks even if they had been previously released just for the packaging. I didn't buy a second one to open if I already had the contents exactly "as is" from a TSC or EP3 release.

So, I'm one of those collectors who Hasbro should "love". Apparently they didn't get the memo though.  ::)

Anyway, getting back to the Dagger Squadron, yeah, I said EIGHT because if they have the ship come with a single figure, but then come in four different versions, then I would want one of each version MIB and one of each version open.

So ctonra was correct in his analysis of my ramblings...  ;D

I always like to see pics of the things we've been discussing.  The paintjob looks interesting.  Certainly a bit better than the Titanium B-Wing that's recently been in stores.  And a human B-Wing pilot is a welcome addition.  Obviously this image only shows us a little, but it looks encouraging.

Unbelievable. I sure it's probably related to the series, but after having yet to see a red suit human B-Wing pilot, it's quite maddening.

Interesting paint scheme though.

I am in, although I would have preferred another regular color B-Wing. This dagger Squadron team is not that big/known in fan circles so I find this an interesting EU choice given that there are so many other more recognizable choices before them.

A red suited pilot would have looked great with this. I would like to see the customizable parts/labels applied to this to see the combinations of looks.

Just a reminder that the red jump-suit Human B-Wing pilot is scheduled for the 2nd Rebel Pilots Legacy Evolutions pack... Hasbro confirmed it in the Q&A a few times now.  ;)

3. Do you have any pics of the second version of the Rebel Pilot Legacy set yet (the one with the Red B-Wing Pilot)? We’re all interested to see how the Red B-Wing pilot and the rest of the set turned out!

** We do not have pics of this set yet, because our original paint masters aren't a match for what we are actually doing for the final deco. Originally the B-Wing outfit of Keyan Farlander was more maroon when compared to the original Kenner red B-Wing Pilot; since then we have brought ours closer to the vintage color.

Meh, this nay be an eventual purchase. I'm just not into the colors. I passed on the 181st TIE and don't feel bad about it. If this were a Target exclusive, I'd be a tinge more ready to buy as I know it would clearance a month or so after being put out. TRU isn't known for that, so these will sit on shelves. So gain, an "eventual" purchase.

Oh, I agree with you there. I actually like the extra red colors. But strangely while the 181st TIE had that red stripe on it, it wasn't enough to draw me in. I think it just looked to "custom" and not "real" enough for me. Now had this come with Baron Fel instead of a TIE Pilot, I'd have bought it. But Hasbro saved me the cash by putting Fel out in a Comic Pack...even MORE money saved.

That was a bad move by Hasbro, IMO.

I agree with what you said... I hate the red stripe on the TIE... if they did an Interceptor in white paint, then I'd bite... but a red stripe?  Lame-O!

I kinda thought that their Fel figure was a letdown... like a POTF2 buff figure w/ decent articulation...

The Fel figure was definitely a letdown.  But I guess Hasbro had to make compromises in order to get 2 figures out at that comic 2-pack price point.  I think a Fel figure that was part of the Basic Figure line would've been a good deal better than what we got in the 2-pack.

Looks like he's the leader of Dagger Squadron:

You know it's time to quit when you have to google the figure's name.

True that!

The latest exclusive EU offerings so far are pretty lame. The Royal Guard Ninja pack, Pirate Tie, this B-Wing, I am starting to fear for the EE pack.....

I've been googling names for years. Anything beyond Snaggletooth and Walrusman has been a challenge for me. :P

Lovely, another pilot to track down...

If anyone wants an extra B-Wing for a decent price, let me know.

I was looking at the SDCC pictures and it looks like we're definitely getting this tonight. They have 7/26 as the release date on the little tag in front of the one at SDCC. They also have a price on it of $29.99.

I could have sworn that the pre-order price back when the item was on TRU.com was $39.99 like the large-wing TIE. I'm more than happy to pay $30 for this vehicle with the new figure. I'll definitely be getting two if that is indeed the price.

If it's higher, I'll grab my one MIB one tonight and then gradually build Dagger squadron over time. At $40 a piece, even I have my limits.

I saw that $29.99 pricepoint as well, and was a little bit surprised at that.  I think, if I am remembering correctly, this was a $40 vehicle when I picked it up at Target in the POTJ days (although I think it hit some low clearance prices in some areas later on).  I actually kind of like this new version, and would like the pilot, but I'm going to have to pass.  If it was a "normal" year, and there wasn't so much coming out right now, I might consider it - but the budget can't handle it, and space is an issue the way it is.

You've got first dibs - I'll check with you whenever it is that these are finally out and I have one. :)

My TRU had 4 tonight, so three other guys and myself snagged one each.

So much for the ppt and the book. It appears that the little signs are right about the dates.

The price was $34.99

Same here in my neck of the woods.

JJ - The deco on this ship is not the greatest so I'm doubting that I'd buy another.  Sorry

n/p iFett

If anyone IS buying one extra and wants to help a fellow out to get the pilot, I'd like the pilot basically. :)

I really have no space for another B-Wing these days.

Anyone?

I have to say that the colors are far less wacky in person than the original pics made the ship out to be.

I picked one up and don't regret it.  Yeah, it was $35, but I did get a free holo grievous, so ir wasn't too bad to pay $35 for it.  :)

I didn't get the holo-grevious with my B-Wing purchase, didn't think of it.

They refused to give me the free Grievous. No joke.  They said the $35 B-Wing "didn't qualify."

Mine "didn't qualify" on Saturday because it wasn't in their system, but I recieved a credit on Sunday.  Hope that helps.

There were tons of holo grievous screw-ups out here I know...  Some stores would only sell the figure and had no clue on the promotion.  Dumb.

Opened this up last night. It's cool. Yeah, weathering would have been nice, but whatever. The pilot is awesome.

I cracked open my B-Wing today (I'm taking my time opening everything  :P) and I still like it.

I love the fact that they put some effort into it instead of just going with a straight repaint - the new cannons, new cockpit.  Definitely improvements on both, the new cockpit is way more detailed than the old one, which was a nice surprise - lots of levers and switches and things.  I'm also glad to see the new Evo B-Wing sculpt used instead of one of the old PotF2 pilots of the past.   :)

I was also pleasantly surprised in person with the new B-Wing, they really did do a nice job. No regrets on the purchase at all, I only had one B-Wing before so that made it even less painful.

The cockpit was a nice surprise and matches the BMF format, hope they continue that look in the future. The pilot was cool with the scar on his face taking advantage of the new EVO sculpt was a relief. (The scarred face is way the EE Mandos should have looked but I digress). The new cannons fit very well as do the old school ones. They also improved the canon fits because the last/original release the canons fell off fairly easily. I like the big cannons better, makes it look tougher.

I was able to grab this at MM, they almost sold out, I think this will do quite well for TRU. I recommend this to those on the fence about it, it's a very worthy addition to your Rebel fleet.

These have recently been dropped to $29.99 at TRU here, and we've also got a $5 off coupon to use, so I've been tempted to maybe pick this one up.  I've been on the fence since I do have the previous Target exclusive one from years ago (which I remember paying $40 for), but the new cockpit/guns/pilot combo made it more tempting.  Not that I have a ton of room for vehicles anymore either though.  It seems like most of you felt that it was a pretty nice ship overall though, and an improvement over the previous version.

If it wasn't for the paint job, I'd pick another one up.
