Title: Slave girl Leia - MicroLady edition with chain Updated 2/19/06
Post by: Phrubruh on January 28, 2006, 11:27 PM
One of the projects I've started to work on is a super actuated slave girl Leia using the MicroLady body. So far I've added the head and collar. As you can see she is extremely...ahh...flexible. ;)

I need suggestions on a paint color to match the potf2 slave girl leia head. What color or mixture of colors would you use to paint the body?

Good start Phruby!  I'm happy to see some more Microman/lady customs!

Personally, I would paint her head to match the body, that way you won't have to worry about paint chipping.
Also, you might want to trim her neck down a bit because it looks a bit long right now.
Keep us updated!

she's a bit of a gymnast there Phruby  :o

a good flesh mixture that i have found is with my Citadel paints. i like to start with Bronzed Flesh, then add some red, white and then some light brown to it if it needs to be darker (more tan). of course the red makes the flesh more fair=more pink, whereas yellow and brown=more tan.

can't wait to see her in her bikini  ;)

p.s. are you gonna make her chain a real metal chain like the "new" saga Chewie Boussh's prisoner? that would be a nice touch.

Sexy, sexy!  I don't know how I would accomplish such a custom Phruby... I'd be scared of all the joints!  I can't wait to see what you come up with here.  I would suggest maybe a bit of sculpy over those screws.

I'm not sure I would want to use a figure with so many joints exposed.  This may be a tough one to make look "natural".   I'll reserve final judgement until you are finished!!  Looking forward to seeing the final product.

I think it will look natural as long as I can get close to the skin color of the head. I reduced the neck post and the head still moves. The chain is there to hide the joint between the body and head. Here are some pictures of Catwoman and Batgirl done with this body. I'll probably have to do the boots simular to Batgirl.

I think it will look pretty damn cool if you paint everything, clothing included on the figure, then and add a belt and cloth skirt.  It would definitely fit into that style of figures quite nicely.

I used a Batgirl for mine and aside from my overkill with the flesh-wash, I think it turned out alright.  You can swap out the feet on all Microman figures, so if you pick up a Batgirl, you won't have to do any major modifications.

Here you can see I've shorten the neck a little. The chain helps hide the joint. Her head is still moveable.

Here I've added the loin cloth as an experiment. I plan on using real softgoods instead of the plastic you see here. I will use the upper metal piece from these plastic pieces.

Yah, that's the thing I'm going to have to try and avoid. She's very yellow.  I really don't want to paint the face. I want to get as close as possible to that color. Did you take the entire figure part and paint everything separately? How do you keep the paint from rubbing off on the joints?

I would just go with Games Workshop's "bronzed flesh" color and NO FLESH-WASH  :P

I sprayed the figure with a base coat of black (I always prime my figures in black or white) and then just painted a base coat of bronzed flesh.

For Microman figures, you don't really have to worry about paint rubbing off overall.  The only parts on my microman figures that I've had trouble with are where the upper thighs rub against the hip socket, aside from that the paint does not really rub off, especially if the figure is primed.

I think this is a great custom idea Phruby. I am usually not a fan of mixing different brand toy parts.
But I really like this idea. Since hasbro now will be doing marvel stuuf, maybe the SHS style of articulation
may spread over to star wars.

I think it's going to be a cool custom... but honestly I don't know if I want Marvel articulation on such small figures, would it not lead to more broken parts like the Palisades AoD figures?  Still though, I guess anything is possible.

Actually, I'm very surprised on how well this figure stays together. All the joints are tight and move very well. These figures are much higher quality and stronger plastic than anything hasbro produces. Sad part is they cost the same as a regular hasbro star wars figure.

I think of these as the same as using a Dragon body for 12" doll. Findswoman could make a fantastic softgoods outfit for these bodies.

I really like the way you've done this figure I've always liked articulation in my figures so this is right down my alley. I really like how you've used the slave leia outfit on her and the flesh wash is'nt that bad.

Maybe next time when you use a the body give it a dry brush of flesh instead of a wash you might find that it will look better.

Looking good so far Phruby. Id love to get my hands on a few of the material force figs to work on, but unfortunately they are too expensive and other than ebay they are extremely hard for me to come by. Actually, what would make it perfect (in my opinion only ;)) is snagging a cloth skirt from the Saga slave girl Leia and putting that on her.
Pardon the pun but with all that articulation, she just screams for soft goods.

P.S. I realise how that was worded but I lack the proper words to explain myself any better. You may commence with the rude comments at any time. ;D :P

Sorry I did'nt get back to way sooner mate I never recieved an email saying there was new post.

I use reaper minaiture  and Jo Sonja's paints for my skin tones if you can get your hands on them
1-use hill giant brn #18027 and give the base a good dry brush of that
2-once dry give a wash of Sonja's(burnt sienna) and wipe away any excess paint.
3- when the sienna dries give a light dry brush of reaper caucasian #18029 over the whole body and then do the eyes, lips etc and then give it a spray of matt finnish I use testors dull coate on my figures.

if you need any help give me a yell

Here is an update on my slave leia. I painted the body with a coat of model master acryl Skin tone warn tint and skin tone tint base. It got pretty close to the color of the head. I'm really impressed on how well the paint goes on these figures. It works much better than any hasbro plastic. Since its only the first coat I didn't care if I covered all the joints. There will be a second layer for a different skin tones to make it look more alive.

I've drimeled out the bikini top from a potf2 slave leia. Its as thin as I could get it without going thru the plastic. Here is a picture of it placed on the chest.

As you can see it looks to far away from the body. I've learned that I should have used a Microlady with a small chest size instead of large. But who knew how big her chest would be until I had it in my hands. Therefore, I've got to sand down the chest in order for the top to fit snuggly against the body. Here is a shot of the body with the chest being sanded down. I'll got to do more work on her chest to make it better. But I think the top will look good after I'm done.

These microladys are very easy to disasemble. So covering all the joints with primer will not be a problem.

Looking pretty good so far Phruby.  When I made mine, I just painted over the Microlady body and I thought that worked pretty well.  I'm sure she will look fine once you dremel that chest down a bit.  What are you going to do for her robes?

Phruby, Looking good so far.  I'm still not convinced that I like all the joints around the elbows and knees, but she certainly will be flexible  ;)

I'm happy with the paint color I mixed up. I just need to finish sanding down the bust. I'm still looking for a nice piece of fabric for the robes. I need to go to the fabric store and look around. I wonder if they have swatch samples. Its not like I need a yard of red fabric.

The paint looks really, really good.  I still get scared thinking of all those joints... if I ever make a Leia lying in front of Jabba, I'll probably wuss out and make her non-articulated.

I've purchased as little as 6" of cloth and it only costs a couple of bucks (usually less than $2)

I've reduced her breast size to fit the bikini top and painted some of the joints. My mother in law says she has the perfect color cloth for her.

These Microman/microlady bodies are definitely getting some good useage. I really think it makes a normal star wars figure more unique looking.

She's coming along well Paul...

Personally, I'm not a HUGE fan of the Microman body things as they really show a lot of joints and so it's been something I've not been a huge fan of but I think you're making good use of it, you're making it work well for what it is...  The painting is coming along well I think and with the right outfit I think she'll look a lot better than her playboy pic there.

Which reminds me of this fat lady in town that used to be the crossing guard.  She wore stirrup stretch pants that were flesh colored, and too tight, and she looked like she had no orafice...  Freaky.

Anyway, yeah she's coming along pretty good...  i think if you could slim her hands down it would help because they look mannish.  The feet may cover up with the footwear but the hands just look "big" to me.  Out of proportion to her head.

Your'e doing good work there Paul, I'm liking watching this as it comes along.

Thanks Jesse. The nice thing about the Microlady body is she comes with alternate sets of hands. There are ones with pointing fingers, fists and straight. I finished her last night. If I can find my Jabba I'll have some have some pictures up. I'm really happy with the way this one turned out.

Well guys, I've finally had a chance to take some pictures of the completed Slave Leia using the MicroLady body. The great thing about using this body is the tons of positions you can put the figure in. The body paints up extreemly easily. Everything goes on even. For this project I had to sand down the breast since large would not fit in the dremeled out bikini top. It would have worked better with small. I added thread for the cords holding the top and bottom together. The red is of course some fabric I found laying around the house.

Here are some poses. Leia like Yoga.

I'll have a complete pictorial once I can take them without my wife around. ;)

Lookin' good Phruby!  I think this figure turned out very well.  Using the thread to "hold" her metal bikini top on was a nice touch.  The hands do look fairly large though, you might want to use the smaller grip hands or maybe the "open" fingered hands - I think they look a bit more "feminine"
Be careful though, once you start down the Micromanification path, forever will it dominate your destiny!  ;)

Thanks Grego. I used yours as inspiration. I've painted up the rest of the hands. I'll subsitute with the smaller ones for my upcoming centerfold shots. ;)

Your right this Micromanification is addicting. I've already bought a blue medium breast microlady for my Aayla Secura and a flesh color microman for Quinlan Vos.

Phruby, pardon me while I stand up and applaud!

Well done sir - this is so freaking outstanding.  You really surprised me with this.  I had a feeling in the back of my mind this wouldn't turn out like you were hoping, but I was wrong and thank goodness for that.

Most impressive, from the painting to keeping the joints intact, to the head, the dremeling out of the bikini (oustanding!) to the threads, silk, etc.  WOW.

You get a great score for those grading this!  I might want to suggest filling in her back with some sort of putty over the screw, but it's not necessary at all.

GREAT WORK, SOMEONE PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE!   ;)

wow! Leia looks amazing Phruby! i really like the thread to hold her bikini in place and the red soft goods skirt really finishes the piece off. the only thing that would make it cooler would be the addition of a real metal chain on her collar like the one that the new Chewie Boushh's Bounty has as an accessory. the flesh color is dead on also - very well done & very easily posed into many positions...now if you had a Han microman....that would just be customizing porn LOL!   :-X  :P

Phruby,
I give you props on this figure.  Although I'm still not a fan of all the exposed joints I think this figure looks great.  I agree with others that the hands are probably too big.  However, it sounds like that can be rectified.  I'm looking forward to your Aayla and Quinlan!

Still, a super posable leia, the possibilities.  Now we just need a scale version of jabba, and that little monkey sal crumb, :)

fantastic on the flesh, man.
