I don't know. Bruno was my least favorite of the character son the Ali G show.

It looks like Red Tails, the film about the Tuskegee Airmen that Lucas has talked about doing since a little after ROTJ, has finally started filming. It looks like Lucas wrote the story and then brought in a screenwriter and a director, John Ridley and Anthony Hemingway respectively. Hemingway sounds like a good choice. He has done some work directing for Battlestar Galactica and The Wire. The cast includes Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, and Cuba Gooding Jr.

This actually sounds promising so far. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point.

Wolverines! Script review of the planned Red Dawn remake.

Didn't watch.  Pissed off just at the thought of a remake/reboot of this film.  This is a classic that totally captured the fears of the time.  Remaking now is just another example of the ever growing stack of proof that Hollywood is full of a bunch of *******.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but with "summer movie season" right around the corner now I was wondering if anyone had any predictions for the #1 movie for 2009?  It seems that it most often comes during the May-July/Aug months (with a few exceptions), so with Wolverine kicking things off in less than 2 weeks now - which movie do you think will be the big winner for the year?  For reference, here's the box office champs of the last five years:

2008 - The Dark Knight
2007 - Spider-Man 3
2006 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
2005 - Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith
2004 - Shrek 2

It seems that most of those movies were pretty big favorites going into the summer, while it might not be quite as clear this year.  Some possible contenders (and some that are tough to judge):

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Star Trek
Terminator: Salvation
Angels and Demons
Land of the Lost
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Up
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

Later in the year...

Twilight: New Moon

I'll predict Transformers 2 in first.  New Trek at two.  And Up third.

GI Joe will and must bomb.   ;)

I agree, I think Transformers 2 may take the top nod this year.  I do, however, think that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince may squeek out a number 2 slot.  It'll probably be a battle between Potter and Terminator.

While the other May movies all have huge hit potential, they cancel each other out.  It's going to be hard for one film to break out of the month with huge numbers since 3 of the four pull from a similar audience pool.  Terminator has the best bet since it's last in line with only "Up" following it.  Two different audiences.  Potter Stands alone about 3 weeks after Transformers.  So I'm betting a 1/2 for them.

I do agree with Bill that I think the Joe movie will tank.

Is Terminator PG-13?  That's the only way I see it making big bucks.

Terminator Salvation hasn't been rated yet.  And I kind of agree that an R rating might keep it down, except that I think being at the end of May, it might get a bump from lack of competition the following weekend.  We'll see.

I still think Potter will probably be 2nd behind Transformers.

The domestic grosses of the previous five Potter flicks:

Sorcerer's Stone:       $317,575,550
Chamber of Secrets:   $261,988,482
Prisoner of Azkaban:   $249,541,069
Goblet of Fire:           $290,013,036
Order of the Phoenix:  $292,004,738

Based on those, HBP is guaranteed at least $250m, probably closer to 275.  No way Trek beats it.

I'm kind of thinking it is going to be Transformers 2 and Harry Potter in the top two spots as well.  I think movies like Wolverine and Star Trek will do well, but probably not "top movie" well.  Also, I'm sure Up will put up some nice box office numbers - and probably Terminator as well.  Its hard to judge the G.I. Joe movie.  I mean, from what we've seen/heard, it sounds pretty iffy - but who knows what the "general movie-going public" will think.  Either way, I highly doubt its a top 2 movie, or even top 5.

I think you can tell that this year was the one most effected by the writer's strike.  Although there are definitely some movies I'm looking forward to, it does almost seem a little "light" - especially when you consider that movies like Star Trek and Harry Potter were supposed to come out last year.  Many years, there are at least 3-4 movies that make $300 million domestically - and I don't know that I see that happening this year.

This is a random movie post, but I'm a huge Al Pacino fan. I have all his movies except his first (not available) and two of his newer movies (I want them to be cheaper). But I bought 88 Minutes for $6 used the other day. Just watched it. It is one of the WORST movies I have ever seen. It makes me so sad that one of the best actors of all time can't get/pick a good role any more.  :(
