Hey I'm new here but I've been customizing a while now. Here's my VOTC style Jedi Luke.  Ever since Hasbro came up with the VOTC idea idea I've wanted a Jedi Luke.
<Edit: I got rid of the pics of the original Hairdo because I don't want to waste space on photobucket.>
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/Lukecloak.jpg) <as an Homage to the vintage Luke and my own laziness I gave Luke a brown Jedi cloak>
This led to my idea for custom con which was going to be Luke Skywalker: Evolutions. My plans were to do Jedi, Bespin, and toss in the Tatooine luke and do a custom package. Unfortunately I came up with this idea maybe 3 days before the deadline so meh.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/lukecloseup.jpg)This was one huge kitbash. He has boots and lower arms from and evolutions count Dooku, Torso from an evolutions palpatine, cloth vest, head from an evolutions anakin skywalker and face from a Saga Jedi Luke. I originally used the Anakin faced but it didn't look like Hammil so I took a chance stuck the face from the saga Luke onto the anakin head after dremmeling it down to a nub. Then I thought the hair on the Saga Luke looked too amorphus and blobby so I resculpted it. The main torso is resulpted too. The fabric pieces are from Saga Luke's cloak.
The best part about using Dooku's hands is that now Luke can do this!!!!!!
Recipe:
Head- Evo: Anakin skywalker w/ Luke face-resculpted
Torso/upper legs arms- Evo Palpatine
lower arms legs- evo Count Dooku
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/ROTJ.jpg)

This is the final version of Luke: I got rid of the softgoods and went for the look from the final duel with Vader. I also added a belt from a VOTC luke.
I noticed later that there was some stuff stuck to his crotch area that has been removed 8)

Are you kidding me???  Wow, this is one of the absolute sweetest customs I've ever seen.  What a great parts use here.  I'm stunned - this is the best Jedi Luke I've seen.

I'm glad you joined up here, I hope to see more of your work.  Simple amazing!

Wow! And I thought I was the only one that does things the hard way. What a great resulting figure. The only thing I don't like is that hair. Its too fro looking.

Lestat, great to see you here!! Welcome to JD.
I just finished leaving you a comment over at fwoosh!

Great version of Luke. I have the OTC/Saga one on my desk. I was looking at it thinking, why cant you look like that!

Great use of parts.  I'm disappointed that you didnt get these done for custom con... That would have been awsome. Do them anyway... Deadline Next monday!  ;D
Title: Re: VOTC Jedi Luke
Post by: Talon_Karrde on March 9, 2006, 04:31 PM
Most definitely one of the better Jedi Luke’s out there.  The concept of using those parts was quite ingenious; I would not even attempt that with my evo's.  Ok maybe if I had 2.  ;D  The hair did strike me as a bit too.....I dont know.....for lack of a better term i'll use Master_Phurbs "froie" (is that even a word?)

BUT, the more i look at ole luke, the more it grows on me. (no pun intended)  :D

I would really like to see Lighter pics to see the detail

again great work man

That is wonderful work, especially with the articulation.  The hair could use a little work, but it's just fine as is.  I really like it.  Great job!

Looks great.  I was a little freaked out when I read that you used an Anakin Head and a Luke Face.  Its like that movie Face-Off!  Having said that, you really pulled it off with this figure.  Love seeing Luke use the Sith Lightning.

That is indeed the best DS2 luke I've ever seen. I love the head, did you say that's an Anakin head with the hair cut off and resculpted? The parts choic is thought-out and well exectued. The outfit itself looks even better with the addition of the black fabric.
Title: Re: VOTC Jedi Luke
Post by: Lestat on March 10, 2006, 10:20 AM
Ok so what is the consensus on the hair? Is it badly sculpted or is it just too big? :-\ It was based on the way the Saga luke's hair looked, which had that 70's afro/feathered thing going on. I was afraid to take too much license on it because I wanted it to look as close to the movie as possible but after reading the comments I think I'm going to give Luke a trim ;) But then again Hamil didn't have the best hair in that movie anyway...hmmm think on this i will. Thanks for all of your comments and the warm welcome !!

I don't see anything wrong with the hair - looks like the EU Luke's hair a bit.

Keep it it looks perfect, anyway his hair is always flying around in ROTJ like on the sail barge, his hair is going wild. So keep it as is it looks awsome and has a great likeness to Mark.

Post by: Lestat on March 10, 2006, 01:56 PM
I actually ended up modifying the hair slightly using the Saga Han in Carbonite and the Sideshow figure as models. After looking at it I did see that it could use a bit more shape and less volume (I feel like I'm in a Vidal Sasson commercial). I'll post pics as soon as the apoxie dries. Thanks for all your comments :)

Post by: Darth_Ennis on March 11, 2006, 11:05 AM
Damn!!! That is one of the coolest Lukes Ive ever seen. The only complaint I have is the fact that the softgoods vest looks like its shredding a little. the parts fit together very well. the hair sculpt is dead on too. Altogether a solid figure. Excellent work. I need to get off my lazy ass and do one of these myself.
Title: Re: VOTC Jedi Luke v1.5 (w/ NEW HAIR)
Post by: Smartypants1635 on March 11, 2006, 11:38 AM
WOW I thought it was good before, the hair looks great.
As Ennis said I think that the soft goods are fraying(sp) also I think the soft goods could be a bit wider. other than that and you got one bad assed Luke
Title: Re: VOTC Jedi Luke v1.5 (w/ NEW HAIR)
Post by: Lestat on March 11, 2006, 12:56 PM
<sigh> Any tips on how to fix the fraying? I was considering maybe burning it a bit. Then again you can only tell close up....

Finish this custom, I never will :D

I have heard people suggest clear nail polish on the edges.

That is incredibly cool! I am totally gonna do that if I get all of those figs!

How is its scale compared to other figs? is it as short as luke's supposed to be?
Title: Re: VOTC Jedi Luke v1.5 (w/ NEW HAIR)
Post by: darth_ripley on March 11, 2006, 03:49 PM
lestat, the new hair looks much better b/c its not so "poofy".  its a huge improvement, much more movie accurate.

as far as the fraying goes on the soft goods, BrentS is right, clear nail polish will do it, or even just some clear elmer's glue. just need to get the "frays" pasted down & then they won't be noticable at all.

wonderful job on this custom, i look forward to seeing more of your work and welcome :)

The hair wasn't a huge problem to begin with, but what you've done improves it immensely.  The hair seems to fit on his head much better now.  Great job.  Again, the idea and implementation were wonderful!

Here's one I did about a year ago. It's a 6 inch version of Jango Fett. I made him as part of a series of figures for custom con I called Star Wars legends.

Recipe:
Epic force Boba Fett head and backpack
ML Punisher body
Armor- scuplted

Mace Windu was also done while I was on my 6 inch Star wars kick of last year but was not done as a part of custom con
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/MaceWindu.jpg)
Recipe:
Head: Mcfarlane Shaft
Body: ML Punisher
Torso: Epic Force Obi Wan

I actually am in the process of redoing Mace with a cloth tunic. I got sidetracked though so we'll see if I end up finishing him.

Cool work, I'm liking that smaller 3-3/4 version of Windu a lot although I think the arms look a bit big in the joints areas.  Of course the 6" ones look great as well.  Interesting to see those.

SA Luke Skywalker Jedi Master(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/MasterSkywalker.jpg)

He's a combo of the obi wan #55 cloak, evolutions anakin body, and the VOTC Luke head

here he is with the wife who's also been modified slightly to look more like the upcoming bust of her. Got rid of the all white Bugs bunny gloves which I always thought were weird..

I just got done reading the NJO a month ago, so I'm really happy to see a Jedi Master Luke and Mara Jade! I thought about doing some New Jedi Order customs, but I'm gonna need waaaaaay more fodder for that!

I love your ROTJ Luke, it really stands out. And I appreciate the amount of craftsmanship that went into the face transplant, because I am not so bold as to attempt such a risky custom! One of the best looking ROTJ Lukes I've seen, to date! Great stuff.
Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Darth Nihilus, EU Luke P. 3
Post by: Lestat on March 31, 2006, 05:59 PM
Thanks for the comments guys! Darth Nihilus is a ROTS Emperor with a sculpted mask with forearms from an evolutions Palpatine (which were added after the original pics were taken). His cloak is part the POTJ Jedi Luke Cloak and part the evolutions Palpatine cloak. I did half plastic and half softgoods because I liked the billowy nature of the softgoods but wanted to keep the sculpted and tame quality of the plastic. Here are a couple more pics

Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Dagobah Luke (SA)
Post by: Lestat on April 12, 2006, 05:38 PM
Here's the last figure in what would have been my custom con entry: Super articulated Dagobah Luke
This is basically a kit bash (so what else is new ). He has the Saga Dagobah Luke's head, torso, and waist joint and VOTC Luke's legs and arms. The arms were done by cutting the pegs off of Saga Luke's Arms and then making holes in them to fit the pegs of the VOTC arms. Theoretically he now has a pair of articulated arms and a pair of unarticulated arms but I don't really have any desire to switch them.
The shoulders may look a tad big but I'm ok with that, Luke looked like he had been working out on Dagobah anyway.

<Edit: The look of the arms and the proportions overall were bothering me too much so I ended up changing him. See Pg 4 for the new version.>

Please pardon my lack of replies to your work.  This section has really, really grown lately.

Mara and Luke - Not much to say here other than great parts selection and very believeable.  One thing though is that the head on Luke might be of too young of an age for him there?

Darth Nihilus - Very nice parts selection and sculpting/painting your mask for him.  His hood seems a bit shiny, what I'd suggest is just painting a flat black over all of his plastic robe parts, then to a matte acrylic sealer spray, and last a black wash - I think that would make a good texture for you.

Dagobah Luke - Great selection of parts... just seems the shoulders look a bit big... I have no ideas how to fix that though.

Jedi Luke - AWESOME, I want to copy your recipe piece by piece.   :)

Lestat - Awesome SA Jedi Luke man.  I've been slowly accumulating the proper pieces to do a custom like this and after seeing yours I know that I have to get off of my ass and make it.
The only thing that I would do to the Dagobah Luke would be to swap out the boots of a ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi (Pilot) and paint them the proper color.

i'm still diggin that jedi luke, he kicks soooo much a$$ it's not even funny.  and him in a battle stance with D Nihilus  :o
very nice stuff.  i like the the D luke i see where you're going with it, but it's just those shoulder, not fault of yours obviously.

Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Bultar Swan, Kyp Durron
Post by: Lestat on April 16, 2006, 08:46 PM
CHEWIE- Darth N's hood looks shiny because I sprayed him with some satin finish sealant. I think your idea is a good one and I'm probably going to try it out once I get a chance. I had the same thought about NJO Luke looking a bit young but I reasoned that Mark Hammil has a very boyish look (even now) and that's not necessarily something most people ever really grow out of.

Jedipurge- I agree that the shoulders look a little big but I'm used to Marvel Legends so it doesn't really bother me. I guess after collecting ML you end up accepting the loss of sculpt for articulation.  :)

Gregorbian- I like that idea about the obi wan boots. If I ever end up with the extra parts, that is exactly where they will be going!

Thank you all for your comments!

A quick update: First Bultar Swan
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/BultarSwan01.jpg)

Bultar Swan is one of the background Jedi from the battle of Geonosis. I used the Twi-Lek Dancer's head from the Jabba's Dancer's three pack because she was one of the few female figures I could find that had Asian features. From the neck down she is Adi Gallia from the Jedi Council screen scene.
Adi Gallia is a great base for female jedi as she has pretty good articulation and a nice soft goods skirt. I'm thinking about getting another to do Jocasta Nu in the future. The pleather outer tunic is from an evolutions AOTC Anakin.

And continuing with my NJO customs here is Kyp Durron
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/Kypduron.jpg)
He uses an Army of Darkness Two headed Ash head with a Clone wars Anakin body. I figured the CW designs were different enough to be beliveable NJO outfits.

I've always liked Kyp Durron's character so this was a fun one for me.

Very good use of the Ash-head dude!! I like the simple mods on it. It works out great!
Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Bultar Swan, Kyp Durron
Post by: hyouriittai on April 17, 2006, 06:48 AM
Very cool! I think the Ash head is fairly fitting for ol' Kyp, and so goes for the Anakin body, as Kyp is a fairly dark character-- and in many ways, very similar to a young Anakin. I agree, that there are enough changes in the clothes to make it believable as NJO-era Jedi garb.

The previous custom, the female Jedi, has awesome soft goods goodness.  I am a big fan of softgoods, and unfortunately I can never do them quite right, so I always appreciate seeing good-fitting, well crafted softgoods accessories. Great custom..

It's good to see other people making NJO customs!
Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Bultar Swan, Kyp Durron
Post by: CHEWIE on April 17, 2006, 11:37 AM
Heh heh, a new use for the Ash head.  Looks pretty good, but I might suggest shortening his neck just a tough.

The Bultar Swan rocks.  Excellent use of parts here (what head is that?) and looks like you are right, that could be a perfect base for a Jocasta Nu figure.

 :)

I loved kyps character. Great Work.

NIce Kyp Durron. But wheres his BOOMSTICK? :P That Anakin body has a great sculpt to it but the articulation on it sucks. The Ash head works.

But my favorite is Bultar Swan. She looks excellent. Though I have read about her Im not very familliar with the character. You have done a great job on ther though. this is definately one I would have bought in the store. Great job on the both of them.
Title: Re: Lestat's Customs: Bespin Luke (NEW 4/19/06) P.4
Post by: Lestat on April 19, 2006, 08:41 AM
So I kept looking at my Dagobah Luke. The more I looked at him the less I liked him :-\ So I decided to go with my original plan from months ago and make a Bespin Luke instead.
I love this pic because it reminds me of when he's walking into the cave on Dagobah
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Lestat2713/BespinL01.jpg)
Pretty simple recipe. He's a Saga Bespin Luke with a Saga Dagobah Luke head. Dagobah Luke's head was cut off at the neck (to preserve articulation) and then inserted into the collar piece of the Bespin Luke. The cool thing about this one is that he now has an alternate tourniquet hand (or lack thereof) and an alternate head so you can do this famous scene...
I'm very happy with him now, I'm calling this one done. :)

Great work as usual.

Glassman- Thanks, he was one of my favorite's too. it's really a wonder we haven't gotten more figures of him. I'm hoping for a Luke Skywalker's evolutions set to be coming down the pike soon so here's hoping :)

Tyrazken- I left the action feature in since it didn't really hinder anything

Chewie- Thanks man, Most of the characters I'm interested in really good versions of are OT characters.

Love the bespin Luke. Definitely an improvement on the figure as well as a great idea with the head swap thing.

Hemble- Yeah, I think Hasbro really does have some great sculptors that aren't always consistent throughout the figure. Sometimes you get a great face and a mediocre body or vice versa.

BrentS- The simple ones are always fun because they are done so fast! :)

Commander Miseria- Thanks!
