Title: Surgery... Who's been under the knife?
Post by: JediMAC on January 29, 2004, 05:05 PM
Sticking with the medical (http://www.yoururl.com)/dental (http://www.yoururl.com) JD theme of the week here, I was curious as to how many people here have had to have surgery of some sort...

I've fortunately never had to, unless you count getting my wisdom teeth pulled when I was about 15.  Other than that, nuthin'.  But I have had a couple family members have some pretty major open heart surgeries recently - including my father-in-law and grandma.  Pretty scary (and scarry) stuff...  Just seeing them afterwards plugged into all the machines, with tubes running everywhere - is enough to scare me straight to better health habits (usually).  Some pretty gnarly long roads to recovery as well.

I have had to get stitches on five seperate occasions though - 4 times in my head, and once in my foot.  That definitely wasn't fun!   >:(

So, who's been chopped open and had their insides messed with?  (that includes jacked up esophoguses  :P)

Here are the times that I had to go under the knife:

-When I was 3 or 4 years old I was roasting marshmallows at a state beach.  I somehow trip and my hand ended up getting to close to the fire and my family saw something else get roasted besides marshmallows.  I ended up with a third degree burn which required 3 skin graph surgeries to replace the damage skin with skin from my hip.  I don't remember to much about the surgeries or the hosptial stay but bits and pieces and I'm glad I don't when I here my mom or dad talk about some of the stuff they had too due to keep my hand from being infected.

-The only other time was when I had a broken wrist and had a pin inserted into the bone the surgery also required bone graph/ bone scrap to my hip to help fill in the cracks of this bone.

I have had numerous smaller things happen to me which required stitches:
Stitches were placed in my burned hand when they had to make my fingers indivduals and not webb like there were.

Bit my bottom lip open at school when I fell off the monket bars.

I think thats all.

Nothing for me yet either, but my dad recently had his appendix removed, and one of our close friends just had a C-section for their baby's delivery.  Probably not fun getting a lifelong scar stuck on your body for stuff like that, but it's better than the alternatives, that's for sure!

I've been under the knife a few times. Never a pleasant experiance but atleast no serious complications.
First time was in 1993. That was to remove fragments from my upper chest.

The next time was in 1994. I had my knee scoped. That wasn't to bad. I would say it felt like more of a pressue in my knee that any pain. I was afraid if I bent it it would blow out the side ;)
It all turned out OK. It still feels stiff when its this damn cold out.

The last time so far was in 2000. I hurt my back at work and had a lower discectomy. They removed parts of 2 vertibre(sp?) and then cut out part of the disc. I will say that after I woke up from the surgery it was instant relief from the pain. I actually looked forward to the surgery to get the pain over with.

Since then .. knock on wood... every thing is AOK.

If stitches count, I have had stitches 9 different times, 300 or so of those were in my leg when I accidentally impaled myself on something).

If stitches don't count....then nope. Just a few broken bones, and the occasional burn. I was a dangerous youth. ;D

One of my patients that I saw for her 6 month checkup came in, and I asked the question, "Has there been any change in your medical history since last appointment?"

"Oh boy! Yes."

"What changed?"

"I had my appendix out."

"Oh okay, anything else?"

"Yes and some other things while they were in there.  They opened me up, and I was like a grab bag, they just kept removing things."

 :o

"Okay, well, let's get started.  Open please."

This gets my nod for one of the scariest sounding surgeries that I've ever heard of.

The only time I ever had surgery was when I broke my arm. They couldn't set it, so they had to go into surgery to fix it. I have a 1 inch scar on my arm near my wrist, as well as three small roundish scars where they put pins.

Of course I remember none of it, since they gave me a strong drug that knocked me out for at least 5 hours. :o

...when I accidentally impaled myself on something)...

Care to elaborate on that Josh?  You can't give us a juicy tease like that without expanding on all the gory details!  What the heck did you impale yourself on, and how (or perhaps why)?!   :P

That was to remove fragments from my upper chest.

Same goes for you Sarge!  What kind of fragments?  Bullets?!  If so, do tell!

Hmmm, this one I might just win.

Age 2: Lymphangioma.  Or that's what they tell me.  Basically it was a lump on the side of my neck the side of a softball.  Scared the bejesus out of my parents as it was not known if it was cancerous.  30-some stitches in the side of my neck and it still hurts when you press on it.  Funny sidebar: couple weeks after surgery I was playing with a buddy about 2 years older than me.  I have a drain for the fluid sticking out of my neck, he won't give me back one of my toys so I picked up a shovel and whacked him in the head.  Brave, crazy or stupid but only 2.

Age 7:  Going waaaaaay back in time here, but as kids, we only used to wear helmets playing hockey (no cages).  Got whacked with a hockey stick across the nose.  Out cold, blood all over the ice and they had to reset my nose.  Still have a ridge from that.

Stitches?  Virtually all sports related.
Chin 7 - split while playing volleyball.
Lip - 4 inside, 3 out - back of guys head into my lip - his fault.
Eyebrow - 4 - elbow playing basketball

Ruptured (and subsequently re-attached achilles tendon) in grade 10.  That was just a pile of fun, but female sympathy compensated nicely.

Knee surgery in my 20's.  Twice.  Scraped the underside of the kneecap (grinding) once, removed damaged cartilage twice.

Late 20's had another lump removed from my leg.  Doctors unsure of what it was (biopsy, CT, MRI all inconclusive) so they went in and removed the lump, mostly weird-ass deposition of fat.  14 staples in my quad and one of four quad muscles gone with it.  Yippee.

Wisdom teeth done too, impacted, so in hospital.

Esophogael invasions?  Twice, thus far.  Once for a mysterious ailment that was in my esophagus in high school, preventing me from swallowing without major pain.  Dropped from 165 (heh, the glory days) to 139 in about 8 days :-\  Second one was when I was anemic for several months about 4 years ago.  Looking for coeliac symptoms.  Blood test had been positive, but biopsy was negative (whew!).  Still no clue what the anemia came from but it's gone for now at least.  It was, um, accompanied by it's reverse companion too :-X

Do concussions count too? 4.  The hockey stick.  Once in basketball (last thing I remember after the really loud crack was a really low ooooooooh from the crowd.  Once while waterskiing.  This was the advent of the wing on the keel fin.  We (I) decided to see what effect on deceleration it would have.  Lots.  Whacked-face first into the water at 25-off, 36 mpg.  Worked the rest of the day afterwards until the lifeguard at the sports club forced me to go to the hospital.  Car accident.  Go figure.

Broken wrist from falling wrong while playing badminton (D'oh).

That covers most things anyway.

I'll recap my esophogial problems...
However, I have a chronic problem which effects my swallowing of food (called Dysphagia) I've had this since I was around 10-12.  What happens is that when I eat chicken or steak, it gets stuck in my esophagaus and won't pass into my stomach...it hurts like hell and eventually I start to gag from the amount of saliva going down to try and dislodge the food.  So I have to regurgitate it backup (sounds great huh)

So, I've had the esophagaus stretched a couple of times and it helps for around 6 months.  They've done some tests on me recently to try and determine why it happens, they think its due to acid reflux but haven't ruled out uncoordinated swallowing muscles.  Its a weird thing and something I've lived with for a long time.  If its reflux, I should be able to take drugs like Prilosec or Nexium and be over it, if its not more stretching (which sucks, pudding and yogurt only for a day or so, plus anesthesia and general uncomfort)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also had my wisdom teeth removed, do not remember the drive home at all or talking to the nurse, my dad told me I was hitting on her  ;)

Had stitches 3 times, my dad while giving me a haircut when I was two clipped the top of my ear off because I was squirming in the chair, at 5 I nailed a Mailbox the day after I got my training wheels off of my bike, it hit me right above the eye (no scar that I can see on that one for some reason) and then in '99 I sliced my finger wide open on a pallet strap, I was in Arizona on business, had to file a ton of paper work because I was out of state, got like 6 stitches

Other than that, pretty clear knock on wood, I know what happened to MisterPL and his Internet health bragging

Heh, maybe now you know why you don't know what I look like ;)

Honestly, mostly sports related injuries they are.  I played a lot of sports when I was younger.  During my preteen years I played hockey obsessively.  Discovered racket sports (squash, badminton, tennis) in my early teens at the same time as I played basketball and volleyball.  The latter two continued into college and beyond until basically after the second knee surgery, I was told to quit or face ever more surgeries on my knees.  Over use injuries as I was playing sports like that 6 times a week.

I also forgot the time playing softball.  Warming up pitching balls to a buddy as he was hitting them to the outfield.  Good hitter, no worries, right?  Wrong.  I had about 3 balls in the glove and bent over to pick up another as he was hitting the most recent pitch.  Line shot up the middle right into my right arm.  Weirdest thing is that was the most painful thing I have ever felt and I damn near passed out from the pain.  Broke my arm just below the funny bone, which is apparently (radial nerve?) what all the pain was from.

Unfortunately, I'll probably think up some more.  I presume sprains (2nd and 3rd degree) do not count?

"Yes and some other things while they were in there.  They opened me up, and I was like a grab bag, they just kept removing things."

 :o

damn... that just made me spit out a mouthfull of water.

surgery: had a double hernia removed when i was younger... outpatient surgery.

other non-surgical hospital visits: several times for seperated shoulders (hockey injuries) - after the first time, those suckers keep popping out at the slightest touch. they actually wanted to do some kind of surgery to tighten up the shoulder joints or some such... but i just said no. also a concussion or two... can't seem to remember how many  ;D - also hockey injuries

tore my acl in my left knee looong time ago (non-hockey injury), but the doctors said that instead of surgery they wanted to try putting a brace on my knee and immobilizing it to heal the ligament. well, it took 9 months, but it worked.

tri-weekly visits to the chiropractor for several months a few years back to repair some slipped discs in my back after a car accident, also to avoid surgery.

had a friend who got a kidney transplant, ex-wife had her thyroid gland removed due to cancer, brother had a compound fracture of the shin bone, screws inserted, and my other brother broke his nose diving one time... (not all at the same time, of course) - so, you could say i've had my fair share of hospital time, to say the least...  :'(

Matt
to elaborate on the fragments part. No not bullets although I have been shot once but that didn't require surgey thank God. It was superficial.  The fragments were metal and rock. i was close to an explosion and it send the chards flying everywhere. I had a vest on but they don't cover everything so basically my left upper chest area from my peck over to my arm was hit. I had to have about 20 pieces taken out.  Not fun considering they were in there for about 30 hours before I was taken care of. No major damage just a bunch of 1-2 inch scars.

A few times for minor stuff. I had ingrown toenails when I was 18 & the 3rd operation fixed that. Right foot, no big toenail, left foot, a little of the nail grew back. Got me 3 weeks off from collage.  ;D

The other time was for a syst on top of my left foot. Infact there were 2 systs. The doctor opened my foot like a sardine can as 1 of the systs exploded & he did exploratory surgery & cleaned it up. You can't tell my foot was sliced open as he is a plastic surgeon.  8)

Never been under the knife but have had a few trips to the hospital, all when I was a kid.

First accident was when I was probably 3 or less, was crawling around on the floor on my hands and knees and rammed my forehead right into the corner of the TV stand, enough to require a few stiches. You can still see a small scar up there now.

Second one had to be somewhere before I was 5. Was on a swing in our back yard, decided to try to balance myself sitting on it without my feet touching the ground and without holding on to the swing itself. Ended up falling off it backwards, landing flat on my back and breaking my collarbone. That was real smooth.  ::)

Next one had to have been within a year or so of that. Was trying to sit on a bike that was too tall for me at the time, and back then we lived on a fairly steep hill. Well, I lost my balance and fell off the bike. Guess which way I fell, yep, downhill so I actually had a little longer fall to catch myself. I ended up with a sprained left arm. No cast but did have to wear a splint for a while.

Last major injury came sometime prior to turning 10. I was playing soccer at the time. Was running along side another kid toward the ball, ended up getting tripped and fell, hurting my right arm. Came out of the game for a while since it hurt quite a bit and then ended up going back in later to play goalie of all positions. Finished the game there, arm still hurting after the game, went to hospital and found out I had sprained my right arm. Again no cast but had to wear the splint.

That's been about it. No major injuries since gradeschool that has required a trip to the emergency room. Guess I've been the lucky one in my family.  ;D

I had almost the same thing when I was 14.  It took the Doctors months to decide what it was because 14 year olds don't get Herniated/Slipped discs.  Well 6 months and 1 quack Doctor later, we find a doctor who knew exactly what it was and I had surgery the day after Christmas  and you are right, the surgery made the pain go away INSTANTLY.  It was the physical therapy that hurt after that.

Then 18 years later(last Summer). BOOM back problems again.  Only this time they treat it with Steroid/Cortizone shots. So far 5 shots and I am begging them to just do the surgery again so I can get some relief.

Well, the word normal is seldom used around me, but I can indeed walk and like the fool I am (easy Kev), started playing basketball again this year.  I've still got the old, quick first step but man, the deceleration after that point is downright frightening ;)

One of my patients that I saw for her 6 month checkup came in...

"Okay, well, let's get started.  Open please."

Puhleease say you're a dentist...  ;D

Surgeries for me...
Tonsilectomy. Surgery was quick and easy, but the recovery was long and brutal.
Broken-hip surgery. About a two-hour surgery, and a month of recovery. Souvenirs of this experience include a 6-inch scar and assorted metal plates and pins. Mmmmm... metal plates and pins.  ;)

Umm...  OK.  Tumors are rad, indeed!   8)

On a related note, my father-in-law just went back to the hospital since he's suddenly not feeling too well, several weeks after his quadruple bypass heart surgery.  Turns out they had to drain over a liter of fluid from his lungs, and he's got an inflamed area around his heart now that he's got to take a bunch more drugs for.

Sucks, 'cause he looked like he was making a full and speedy recovery, and now he's had a pretty major setback...   :-\

Hospitals always make my head hurt...  The smells are very strange.  My mother just had heart surgery and I was there for that and had a horrendous headache between that, the cruddy rainy weather, and of course stress.

Phew!  Finally got my ass outta there last night a little after 9pm!   8)  Almost 3.5 days in there...  The reason I was in there so long Scott, is 'cause the stupid doctors would NOT come to see me after the surgery AT ALL.  They were supposed to come visit the very next morning (Sun.) to evaluate me, and LMK if/when I would be allowed to be discharged.  Well, Sunday morning came and went, and nothing.  We had the doctor paged a couple times during the day and he told the nurses he'd stop by at some point that day, but as the day rolled on, he never came by...   >:(  Plus, I was pretty much ready to go early in the afternoon on Sunday, since I was up walking around, eating regular meals with no problem, not too much pain at all, and all the nurses (none of which were hot  >:() said I was good to go...

So Monday rolls around, and we get the same damned routine all over again - "doctor's real busy (since he's the trauma surgeon), and he'll be by to talk to you as soon as he can..."   ::)  Monday pretty much comes and goes, and NOTHING.  Patty and I were getting so pissed off, that we called the doctor's office last night around 8pm, and got through to his emergency pager, where we demanded he get his butt down to my room for a visit immediately!  Shockingly, the dude finally wanders in around 9pm, talks to me for about 30 seconds, and takes off.  Checks my stomach out, asks about the pain, and then doesn't even tell me if I'm discharged or not, just to call his office some time soon to set up an appointment.  Then he bolts.

So I had to zip down to the nurse's station where I caught him filling out a form before he left, and asked if I was discharged or what?  He said "yeah, of course.  You look great."   ::)  Then I had to ask him if I was allowed to go back to work now, drive, do other stuff, etc. to which he said "NO WAY.  You're totally grounded for the rest of the week!"  That might have been some useful information to tell me earlier dumbass.  Had I not chased him down, I'd have no idea what I was allowed to do or not do.

Add to that crap that my surgery was delayed every hour for about 8 hours throughout Friday night/Saturday morning & afternoon, and you start to see the total ineptitude of these 'tards.   :-X  All that aside, the surgery went great though, and they used a newer technique that's not so invasive (3 small incisions below my belly button, not a giant ugly slash like Scott got  :P).  Didn't even get stitches.  They used some type of "glue" to seal it all up for a couple weeks (which I can even shower with no problem).  So aside from the endless delays and total ineptitude before and after (but not during) the surgery, it's all good, and I'm glad it's all done with now!   8)

...How did you get Internet access at the hospital? When I was in the hospital, we were lucky if the buzzer to the nurses station worked.  ;)

Well, the nurse's alert button averaged about 10 minutes on the response time, so that thing was worthless for me too Bob...  But I had the coolest pull down monitor thingee.  This 17" monitor was on a giant swinging crane-like gadget, so I could move it all over the room.  It was a touch-screen that I could change between TV, radio, internet, e-mail, games, and movies.  Very cool, and it definitely helped me keep my sanity during my way too lengthy stay there.  It was a little tough typing stuff out (to post here), since a touch screen keyboard would pop up on the screen, and my arms would get tired being held up there while I arduously typed away.  But since I'm so damned tough, I was still able to chime in here a few times to the gang while I was laid up...   :P

The best thing about the whole experience was that I think the new and improved "Appendix-less Matt" now has better luck with the Star Wars figure hunting, 'cause when I got out last night, I had Patty swing me by my local TRU, WM and Target (which were all just a couple minutes away), and what do I find?  For the first time ever - Rappertunie, and the whole Star Destroyer wave.  Go figure...   8)

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.   :-*

- Matt

Huh sounds familiar, I was supposed to get cut earlier in the morning, the doctor said I should be awake enough to watch the Super Bowl.  Fat chance on that one, I think I was 6 hours late.  He also didn't come to see me the next day but did call and tell me I could leave and didn't really give me any instructions either.  Bastards

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and my money is still on Princess Loofah getting his Appendix out in 3 short months

Yeah, doctors!  ::)  You can go home when I get to see you!  >:(

Remember that car accident I mentioned back in October:

I was banged up pretty bad. My lower back & my right knee still feel the pain. I had a seat belt tattoo running across my body. From my left shoulder to my right hip. The buckle cilp cut me hard. It was the worst bruising the 2 police officers ever saw.

Finally the tests are over for the time being & my room is ready. Just one more check of the lungs with the stethoscope & I'm on my way. The the doctor says, something is not right here! Half of my left lung collapsed.  Well off for more tests. After a few more hrs, everything is fine. I go to my room for 3 days.

After resting & more tests, I get the go ahead to go home & the doctor said I can return to work on Monday! Wrong!

I went to my doctor & he got my records from the hospital & I was off work for 6 months!

I got to the hospital around 4:30 am Monday & they said I could go home Thursday morning & the doctor never saw me till the evening around 7 pm.  >:(

Not to sure if Brad is on the hit list Scott, I still have mine, Tonsils too.  :P   Though my knee is acting up with some pain!  :-\

Feeling pretty much back to normal, aside from some minor tummy pain (especially when I sneeze).  But when I went in for my checkup with the surgeon on Friday, he said even though I'm pretty much fully recovered now, I need to stay home from work for another week or two!   :o  That's on top of the week I just missed already.  I was pretty surprised, as I was planning on going back to work on Monday.  But he said I need to just continue to relax and heal at home, and avoid stressful places like the office and L.A. traffic.  Needless to say, the partners at my firm were PISSED OFF!  Fortunately, I've got some work with me from a couple weeks ago, so I can do a little bit of work here at home next week.

Scott (or anyone else who's had an appendectomy) - how long were you out?  Is my surgeon insane, or is this pretty common?

A week, I think I pushed it a little though because I would come home wiped out.  Everything on the outside is healed but it took a long time for the inside to heal.  In fact I still have some pain down there from time to time

3 weeks off for an appendectomy!   8)  With a note from my doctor for work, I would still get full pay!  ;D

An oldy but a goody here.  No new surgery, but I think my body is desperately trying to tell me something.  Basketball is apparently not my friend.

Every spring we play our alumni basketball tournament - three games in three days.  Easy in your 20s, not so down the road.  Played two games and had to take the third off for my daughter's birthday party.  Two days later my right knee (formerly known as my good knee) starts hurting.  Get it checked, second degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament.  Yay me.

Practicing this fall, I end up stepping on a guys foot wrong and go over forwards.  Try to get up and damn, my right ankle hurts.  Not so unusual since I've basically fried every ligament in there, so I'm usually just tearing scar tissue and the pain subsides quickly with little to no swelling.  This time though it keeps hurting and WTF, it's starting to swell.  Yeah, I found a new ligament and apparently I've achieved something of notoriety.  I managed to sprain (second degree, my fave) the ligament that runs behind the ankle ??? :o ::) something that is apparently next to impossible to do.

Well, had a game tonight, couple of weeks after the ankle sprain.  All taped up and good to go.  Came out of the game fine, but my ankle is sore, as is my knee.  The best part?  Tomorrow I get to go for x-rays to see if I broke the zygomatic bone (zygomatic arch, bone under my eye).  My left eye is pretty much closed and should be a lovely shade of blue tomorrow.

I wonder if there's anything to learn here? :-\

I'm sure someone will come along and make an old man joke. :P

Well, I'm having oral surgery the week before Christmas - the wisdom teeth are coming out. Actually, since I'm still pretty young, I should say they're being dug out. I hear bad things about wisdom teeth, hopefully it doesn't hurt too much... :-\

Ouch. Not cool! I'm really squeamish about stuff happening to my eyes, and I didn't even think about breaking bones around there. :-\ Hope everything turns out OK.

Good luck to both of youse.... May the Force be with you and may your nurses be hot. (http://cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/figuren/g035.gif) ;)

I was in a car accident back in May 1999, broke my lower right leg in 4 places. After a couple hour surgery was a new owner of a titanium rod plus two screws. Got a nifty scar and I usually set off metal detectors depending on how high of a frequency they have on it.  ;D

Nothing but an emergency appendectomy for me in college.  Unless you count wisdome teeth.

My daughter had open heart surgery at 6 months old, though, and that was stressful enough that it may as well have been me.

Holy crap :o  Is she doing great now?  I can't imagine how stressful that must have been for you guys.  I think that they would have to put me under too. :'(

I haven't had anything major done:

Had a bunch of teeth (baby and permanent) removed when I was 6, plus impacted wisdom teeth at 16.

Had knee surgery -- cleaned up a bunch of stuff and did a lateral release.  That was much worse than the knee.  They went into my quads and cut a couple of muscles to allow my kneecap to pull back into its original position.  I couldn't do anything for the first few days.  Was out of work for weeks.

Had surgery on my wrist and elbow at the same time.  The day I got out of the cast and stiches from the surgery I went back to work and proceeded to fall while walking UP the stairs.  Was favoring my bad arm so was carrying everything in the other arm.  When I fell I instinctively threw out the empty hand and broke my wrist.  Went right back into a cast for 18 weeks. Have since broken that same wrist 4 more times.

Broke my collarbone and dislocated my shoulderblade

Fractured a cervical vertabrae

3 concussions

Numerous sprains

Multiple gastro invasions  --  and their counterparts at the other end >:(

While having exploratory surgery on my girly parts the Doc noticed there was something odd about my appendix.  She consulted a general surgeon and he said I was one of the rare cases that makes an argument for a condition called "chronic appendicitis".  So, they took it out while they were in there.

3 spinal taps in one week >:( >:( >:(

I've had an appendectomy.

I also have a "minor" tear of my right rotator cuff.  It only hurts if I don't warm up before throwing the ball or hitting the weights.  Otherwise, I'm okay.

I had my tonsils out when I was just a kid (don't remember how old I was) but I coughed the scabs off so my parents thought I was bleeding to death , had to rush back to the hospital and get them cauterized.

Had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was like in my teens or so.  All 4 at one time and they had to cut 2 of them out.  OUCH!!!!

Had my gallbladder out on March 28th of this year and that was no picnic.  I hated the way I felt afterwards all blown up with gas and it was killing me in my shoulders most of all...funny that the incisions didn't hurt at all, just when I was laying down.  Weird!

Other than that, I am VERY clumsy, too...hahahaha.............fell down the stairs at work with things in my hands and managed not to break anything just severely sprain my right ankle (i broke the same one 14 years ago falling down some stairs at a friends house).  Go figure!

A little story proving my theory that math class is murder...

When I was a wee 6-7 year old in 1st grade, I tripped over a desk and partially cracked open and broke the back of my spine near my neck area. I got 8 staples. Not stitches, STAPLES. My choice of a reward for going through all this?

A ******* glow in the dark bat.

Hey, it was near Halloween and I was 6.

So the wisdom teeth came out today. The pain is not as bad as I expected, but the swelling sucks! I look like a chipmunk.I spent all day in bed sleeping on and off, and also watching a Phil of the Future marathon.

I miss solid food already. :(

When I was little I got two hurnias(sp?) each about a year apart.I had to get lazer (get rid of burth marks) a few times and need to one more time soon.Counting the 2 hurnias ive had stiches 3 times.(a scooter accident.) and when I was 3 I fell down the stairs and I still need to get the caralige in my nose straightened.

Thats my life long 'been under the knife" story.(o.k. not all of them were under a knife.)

I go in at the butt-crack of dawn tomorrow for exploratory surgery/biopsies on my uterus.  While they are in there (well, the general region ;)), they're yanking out my gallbladder too.  The fun never ends ;)

Hope it all goes well for you, and they treat you better than our puppy. She went in Monday and they just ripped the whole mess out.

Although, if you're lucky, maybe they'll give you a cool collar too. ;)
