Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Apple iPhone Thread
« on: September 17, 2012, 09:25 PM »
Silly question:  why would you want to get the iPhone 5 right away?  If history has shown us anything, it's that new hardware may have issues.  So why not wait a few months until the craze dies down, and the hardware bugs are worked out?

Amazon's bitch. Apple's bitch. What's the difference?

It's cheaper being Amazon's bitch with more tricks.

Really?  It seems like the only way to get media onto your Kindle is through Amazon directly, or having an Amazon Prime subscription.  At least with my iPhone / iPod / iPad I can use varying sources of media, provided of course that I use them in the iTunes or iBooks applications.

Amazon very deliberately kept the price on the Kindle Fire low.  And that's because they knew that they'd rope people in with that low cost of purchasing the hardware, but make some more serious money on the media.  It was a very calculated move on their part.

Saw the last sign of the Nick Fury wave at a TRU store.  That being yet ANOTHER Iron Man.  I could deal with that if perhaps it was a removable helmet version.  Or perhaps if it was the armor that Tony could remotely summon as he was thrown from the Stark tower.  But this just wasn't that interesting.

In contrast, I think Hasbro SHOULD have done another Captain America in the modern uniform.  Notably, one without the helmet.  That would work for both the Helicarrier battle as well as the fighting sequences around Grand Central Station.  And as things stand at retail, I barely EVER see that modern uniform Captain America.

Scored a pair of Biker Scouts with Speeder bikes at TRU this evening.  And I was very pleased to see that they honored the BOGO offer.  Two speeder bikes for $35 and change was far better than the $21.99 each they would normally cost.

I wouldn't be so quick to sing the praises of the Kindle Fire.  It's a nice e-reader, and it's decent at web surfing.  But as far as media playback, you're pretty much Amazon's bitch.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Time for a Han in AT-ST Driver Gear Update?
« on: September 13, 2012, 03:18 PM »
Totally couldn't give a toss about a moustache vs no-moustache.  It's a marginal version of Han Solo, and I was surprised that Hasbro decided to go there a few years ago when they made him back in 2004.  A version which includes him holding the communicator, BTW.

To me, this is a lower priority for the next Han Solo figure than say, a carbon freeze chamber Han.  That's a figure that seems to be far more worthy of a modern resculpt.  If Hasbro wants to revise AT-ST Driver disguise Han Solo based on the new AT-ST Drivers AFTER they get to Carbon Freeze chamber Han, then fine.  But it should be lower in the pecking order of upcoming Han Solo figures.

Damn, you Apple!  I finally bit the bullet and got an iPhone 4S back in May, and now I'm locked into that phone for at least another 14 months.

Here's a general question for those collecting the 3.75" scale Marvel movie lines:  are you into having three seperate collections?

Iron Man 2 did this with a Movie Line, a Comic Line, and a Concept Line.

The Avengers line has done this, too.  And seeing all of those stupid Reactron Armor Iron Man Concept figures warming the pegs has gotten to be ridiculous.

The Thor line seems to have done away with the comic line, but still clung to the concept / alternate hero look figures.

And the Captain America line still had three distinct classes of offerings.

I for one have stuck almost exclusively with movie figures from all of these lines.  There have been some select figures from the concept and comic series lines that I've picked up, but those are minimal at best.  Has anyone else been doing the same?

A little bit about the Avengers sequel from director Joss Whedon:

Still riding high on the success of "The Avengers" (currently the third highest grossing movie of all time worldwide), writer-director Joss Whedon is opening up (just a little) about his plans for the sequel.

In the midst of charming the Toronto Film Festival with the premiere of his new low budget Shakespeare adaptation "Much Ado About Nothing" -- starring frequent collaborators Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Nathan Fillion and Sean Maher -- Whedon spoke with Vancouver's 24 Hours about returning to the Marvel universe.

"The creation of the [Avengers] team is not the happy ending," Whedon says in the interview. "It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I'm digging, just twist that knife. And that's exciting for me."

Twisting that knife will have to wait a little while. "The Avengers 2" isn't due until 2015, after we've seen more solo Avenger pics including "Iron Man 3" (due May 3, 2013), "Thor: The Dark World" (Nov. 8, 2013) and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (April 4, 2014). Marvel also has another superhero team project in the works with "Guardians of the Galaxy" due out Aug. 1, 2014.

As to how involved he'll be in his role as a consultant to the many projects in the Avengers' universe, Whedon said he expects his contributions to be minimal: "Very talented people are writing and directing these movies and what I don't want to be is the guy they dread, who's going to come in and say [in a pompous British accent] 'Oh, well I have the power to say change this.' I'm not that."

The Bullpen / Re: Thor: The Toys!

YES!  Finally completed my Thor collection by scoring a Deluxe Heimdall!  I wasn't too enthused about going online to find one, but the prices came down and I was able to score one for $25.

Now I have to start wondering what's in store for the line that's got to be in the works for Thor: The Dark World.  A new Fandral has been cast (Zachary Levi of Chuck fame), and there are rumors that Viggo Mortenson may have been added to the cast as Dr Strange.  Plus, Christopher Eccleston has been cast as Malekith.  He, along with Loki, are probably going to be the central villains in this installment.

Also, are we going to see a crossover of figure sculpts from the Avengers line into the lines of characters like Thor and Cap?  Because truth be told, the movie sculpt of Thor from the Avengers line was a lot better than almost all of the Thor figures from the first Thor film.

The Vintage Collection / Re: K-Mart Vintage Ewok/AT-ST Driver 2-Packs
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:09 PM »
I just read at Sir Steves Guide on Facebook that these have been found out at K-Mart stores now.  Anyone here dare step foot in a K-Mart and find one yet?

I saw that too.  I looked through their store reports from the past week  and saw no mentions of the AT-ST Driver or Ewok hijackers 2-packs.  I think the FB post might have been a misunderstanding, wishful thinking or an attempt to drive up traffic on their site.

Plus, I only found 2 in-hand eBay auctions of either 2-pack.  I'm thinking that these might not be due in stores until next month.
