Saga '02-'04 / Re: Toys-R-Us finds
« on: February 2, 2004, 10:06 AM »
The TRU nearest us has been better since they reset things, but nothing fantastic.  They have had the Han/Yoda/Fett Unleashed wave from time to time, but I had them via online long before they got them in.  I found a General Riekaan there once, but they haven't had any ultra since.  As far as basic figures, as of this past weekend they had several Tatooine Padmes, Bail Organas, Dignitaries, R-3POs, Elans, and one lone Jabbas Palace Luke.  They also have several of the Hoth and newer Jedi figure packs.

I definitely think Cassell should (and will) get in.  Be nice to see Spree there as well, but I just have a feeling that no one team will have three all-stars.  Who knows though, they'll probably put Payton and Shaq on and have 3 from the Lakers.  Its not like 3 all-stars from the same team hasn't happened before....I remember when I followed the Bulls so closely and Jordan, Pippen, and BJ Armstrong (!) were all named starters one year :).

Edit: Oh, I an agree about Shaq too Scott...if he played all year, I'd say he deserves it big time, but he has been hurt for awhile.  I'm sure he will still get in, and he is having a good season.

Other Toy Lines / Favorite Toys of All Time (Any Time, Any Line)
« on: January 30, 2004, 04:34 PM »
Since I didn't want to limit it to just Star Wars (but feel free to include if you want to), I thought this might be a good place to put this.  I was just curious what some of your all time favorite individual figures are, no matter what the line...past or present.  Maybe they weren't the best liknesses, or were just fun...or maybe they are practically statues and just look great.  I was just curious to see some of your favorites, from childhood to now.  Here's a few of mine:

Vintage Star Wars: Han Solo w/Trenchcoat, Jedi Luke Skywalker, Sensorscope R2, Yoda, Boba Fett, Skiff Lando, Chewie, Vader

Modern Star Wars: POTJ Bespin Han, 300th Boba Fett, Dagobah Vader, Commtech R2, Commtech Stormie, Saga Bespin Luke, Yoda w/Chian, Coleman Trebor (and although I don't have them...Jabba's Palace Luke, Hoth Luke (Saga), SA Clonetrooper.  This list could get longer, but we've covered Star Wars plenty I figure.

Vintage GI Joe: 1985 version Snake Eyes (this was probably my favorite action figure as a kid, outside of a few Star Wars figures)....also Barbeque, Duke, Destro.

Vintage MOTU: Roboto, Sy-Klone, He-Man, Stinkor, Skeletor, Tri-Klops

Modern MOTU: Only have He-Man and Sy-Klone, but the whole line looks great.  I only want a Roboto now, if he ever does show up in stores.

Vintage Transformers:  Sideswipe, Bumblebee, and an orange truck I believe was called Huffer.  Always liked Optimus Prime and Hound too, but unfortunately I didn't have them.

Go-Bots (vintage): Turbo? (red car), Leader 1 (I had the blue version)

Secret Wars: Spidey and Wolverine, they were a team on a lot of missions in my mind...took on Doc Ock quite a bit :P.

Marvel Legends: Beast, Colossus, Gambit (all the X-Men are great)...also have the Spiderman 2 SA Spidey.

Super Powers: Batman, Robin, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman (this was a great line I thought, I never could find a Superman though when I was a kid.  Bats was always my fave)

LOTR: Legolas (Rohan Armor)

Other Misc:  Unleashed Han Solo and Jedi Luke, all the OT Playskool sets (I really hope they bring this line back).

That's what I can think of off hand, I was more curious to see some of your favorites.

JD Sports Forum! / Re: Alright SPORTS fans, name your teams!
« on: January 30, 2004, 02:39 PM »
I have had a hard time lately picking my favorite teams, since we don't really have anything (professional-wise) all that close to us here in Nebraska.

NCAA Football - Nebraska Cornhuskers, of course.  Its part of life here.  Hard to explain if you don't live here I guess, but we don't have anything else for sports really.  We just love our Huskers....and I'm one of the fans that supports them, win or lose.

NCAA Basketball - North Carolina Tar Heels.  I've been a fan since I was in junior high or so, and have always liked them.  Finally back on track this year a little after a couple of down years.

NBA - My favorite sport, used to be a big Bulls fan (even a couple years before they won any championships...I just can't follow them anymore now, after all the dismantling they did with those great teams.  I've really been wanting to find an NBA team to stick with, it becomes harder when players don't stay with teams quite as much anymore.  I followed the Wizards when Mike was there, but don't care as much now.  I kind of like Sacto, Minny, Cleveland, Denver, Milwaukee, Seattle, and Dallas though (lots of them, I know, probably even more if I'd think about it :P).  I've been thinking about just following one of the closest teams to us (Denver, Minnesota, or Chicago are about as close as it gets I suppose).  I don't know, right now...I've just had favorite "players", but it would be nice to have a team again :).

NFL - Used to be a big Raiders fan (in the Bo Jackson/Marcus Allen days), but not that big of a fan anymore.  I don't know that I especially have a favorite, I don't have a problem with most teams (although for some reason I just don't like the 49ers or the Chiefs, can't really explain why other than the fact I didn't like them when I was younger)  I do like to go for all the former Husker players (I'm a big Ahman Green fan, have even seen him in person a couple of times...but just not a huge Packers fan).

MLB - I'm not a big baseball person anymore, I used to be big into the Royals, and then to a lesser extent the White Sox (when Bo went there).  Now, neither one really...Royals are still alright, and I find myself going for the Twins more so than anyone else now (my wife's a Twins fan as well).

Olympics - Team USA, any sport, although I really enjoy watching the basketball competition the most.

It almost sounds like a Valor vs Venom type of system too, too bad 2 packs weren't in the works (maybe they are???)

That's just what I was thinking when I read that as well Scott, when they mentioned "Rebel vs. Empire".  Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the first thing that popped into my head was GI Joe's current line as well.

Ok, that is what I was wondering about too Matt, thanks for clearing it up.  Hopefully we'll get this all sorted out in a couple weeks at Toy Fair :).

Yeah, I'd love it if they did the cards old-style like that too.  The vintage cards were great, and I always liked being able to see all of the figures on the back.  I can remember when I got figures (specifically the ROTJ cards) that had 77+ figures shown on the back and basically thinking "got him, need him, got him" :P.  Plus, it is just a neat look.  Hopefully they do something similar....anything closer to the vintage-style is a positive move in my opinion.  Now I'm wondering, is this a permanent move for the OT figures, or just a "limited time" thing (I thought something at Rebelscum maybe said "12 figures").  I hope I'm wrong, I'd like to see the OT figures continue to have their own line like this.  We'll see I guess.

I'm not real well traveled, pretty much stay home in Nebraska I guess.  Here's where I have been (off the top of my head)...

Nebraska
Iowa
North Dakota
South Dakota
Wyoming
Colorado
Kansas
Missouri
Arkansas
Tennessee
Kentucky

I guess we flew over a few more on our way to our honeymoon (Cancun, Mexico), but not too many.  We'd like to see a few more places though, hopefully someday :).

I noticed that SSG has a report from the UK Toy Fair.  Unfortunately they (Hasbro) did not allow photos (probably waiting for the US Toy Fair I'm guessing), but they did give some details on what is coming.  Here's the linky:

SSG's UK Report

Apparently there will be an assortment known as the "Original Trilogy Collection" (cool!).  There is also an explanation of new cardbacks, and new sculpted figures of R2-D2 (with sounds), OT Yoda, Dagobah Luke, and Spirit Obi Wan.  There's more at the link.  Personally, I'm excited to see confirmation of these figures (especially Luke/Yoda), and can't wait to see some pics.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: KB toys store closing
« on: January 29, 2004, 09:37 AM »
It looks like the one closest to us (which is actually in Iowa) is closing as well.  I guess it is just as well, since I haven't seen anything new there (Star Wars or otherwise) for a loooong time.  It was always just nice having a toy store in the mall to stop in at, but I haven't been stopping as frequently anymore anyways.  It looks like Nebraska might be keeping some, but they are too far away from us to visit anyways :).  Most of my new figure finds have been at Target (and TRU) this year anyways.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How often do you go to the Dentist?
« on: January 28, 2004, 02:25 PM »
Its terrible to say, but I can't remember the last time I went to the dentist.  I've never been a fan of going (like many), and I think I was in college the last time I went.  I know for sure that I haven't been since we've been married, which is going on 4 years here soon.  Not too good I suppose, although I do try to keep my teeth as clean as humanly possible.  It wouldn't hurt for me to go in for a cleaning at least though sometime soon.  It probably didn't help that I wasn't the biggest fan of my last dentist, and now we need to find a new one since we live somewhere else now.

Although it has been awhile since I have watched American Pie, I'm almost positive it is break...at least that is what we've always thought/said it was.

I got that in an e-mail from a friend a year or two ago, and keep it around just for a good laugh every once in awhile.  As sad as it is, I find it funny each and every time :).  Thanks for posting it!
