I saw it, so I set it up. I gots no problemo deferring comissionership though, so just speaks up if you likes.
League Name: Jedidefender
League ID: 18479
Password: berry
All settings are the same as last year. Complain if you will.
Draft is set for March 6th or something, latest Wednesday with an 8:30 Central starting time for the draft. I'll keep checking for later dates but there wasn't anything other than 5 pm or 10 pm available on subsequent Wed/Thurs/Tues.
-
In the heezy.
-
I'll sign up... I need something to take my mind off of my abysmal Hockey and Basketball teams.
-
How does the Baseball pool compare to the Hockey one, in terms of how it works? I've never taken part in the baseball one, but if it's not too confusing ::) for me, I may join in.
-
We've run it rotisserie style, one set of points for HR, BA, Hits, Stolen Bases, .ERA, Strike outs, WHIP, and Wins.
Although I'd like to discuss what options we have to evolve that this year...
-
I'm back to defend my Championship...
A couple of things...
I'd like to see maybe one or two more bench spots
Or one more bench spot and 2 IR spots
Everything else is A-OK with me
-

We don't use "hits," and add "RBI" and "Runs" to the offensive categories, and also add "saves" to the pitching.

I'd like to add 1-2 bench and 1 more DL spots also.
-
I like the DL spots (2) and 1 more bench spot.
I don't like seeing people penalized for IR stuff so you should be able to replace those players that are hurt. I'm ok with one more bench spot but I think 2 is too many as guys just store players on their roster. I think the 2 DL spots makes up for the need for too many more bench spots so I'm suggesting just one more bench spot.
Jesse,
You could easily join the league. I really don't follow baseball all that much other that what I've learned playing fantasy. In three years I've finished 3rd, 1st and 2nd. You certainly can't do a draft any worse than I did last year.
-
New Draft date and time:
Draft Time: Wed Mar 12 8:30pm CDT
The 19th is the last Wednesday and 9 PM is open. Is that too late for the east coasters?
And I added one more bench slot plus two DL slots.
-
We've run it rotisserie style
I've heard the term before, but don't know what it means. :-[
-
My lame description means you get points for where you're standing in each category. To use hockey for example there are 8 teams. If your team has the most goals you get 8 points, person with the least goals gets 1 point. Same goes for assists and every other category. So it depends on how you rank in the individual categories. To win you need a well balanced team that doesn't have any gaping holes.
Hockey is different because we run it solely on point values assigned, but we could set it up as a rotisserie league.
Does that help?
-
Yeah, it does help, thanks Brent.
I'll join in through Yahoo right now. At least I should be an easy player for you guys to beat. ;)
-
Changed the draft time, again. They opened up the last Wednesday night times, so the new draft date and time is:
Wed Mar 19 8:30pm CDT
That'll be the last time I change things. We're at four players signed up, it would be nice to have a minimum of eight and we can accomodate a maximum of 12. Anyone else interested?
-
We don't use "hits," and add "RBI" and "Runs" to the offensive categories, and also add "saves" to the pitching.
Oh yeah, I knew that.
And I'm all signed up.
-
Anyone else?
We've only got 5 registered so far.
-
Missing Chris, John, Jaydouble from last year. Brian, any interest? I asked Jim/chuckles, but he's out.
Missing Kevin too, but until he resolves whatever happened with Beth, he won't be allowed in.
-
I'm in another league and really only wanted to do one this year, but if you guys need me I'm in.
John
-
At this point we do actually need you. If we can find enough other folks (minimum of 8 players I'd think) then I wouldn't at all be opposed to you dropping out.
Worst case scenario would be to let your name stand, let the auto-draft do the draft for you and then ignore the team. It would eat the players in the right places in the draft and remove them from the general pool. You could then ignore the team if you'd like. I'm not a fan of overly small leagues because then there's no real need to modify your team or there's just too many really good players sitting on waivers.
-
Nah, if I'm in I'll actually play. :) Count me in...two leagues won't kill me.
If you guys want I can post on ToyTraderz as well and try to get a couple of people to join. (That is, if the ******* site comes back up again) >:( Just let me know.
John
-
Hey guys, I said last year that I would participate in the league this year. I've got a ton of things going on but would like to honor what I said last year. I'll register and hopefully be able to make the draft on the 19th. If I do end up neglecting my team, like Jesse, I'll more than likely be another easy person to beat up on. Sorry I didn't respond before now, but I completely forgot about it...
-
If I do end up neglecting my team, like Jesse, I'll more than likely be another easy person to beat up on.
Not anymore. I'm going to win this thing.
-
Am I the only one interested in shaking up the scoring system?
More categories? Ditch rotisserie? Anything?
-
Could be Rob. I'm fine with the system as it is, but I'm open to changes if that's what people want.
We've got about 10 days to decide. Would also like to fill those last couple of holes in the league. 8 is a minimum number of players but more is fine too.

I Am Sith, and JohnH should bring us to 7 teams. Which means we need 1 more, right? I don't know if we ever had more than 7 for baseball anyhow.
As for the scoring, I vote to stay with the regular standard rotisserie style like we have.
-

That'd be good, it looks like we're looking for 1 more team :D

2007 - 8 teams
2006 - 7 teams
2005 - 8 teams
Seven is workable I suppose, but I'd prefer 8. I'm ok with up to 10 too.

Okay. We're at 7 now, even though John and IAS haven't registered officially yet, so we need at least 1 more. If we can't get an actual JDer or forum member, I'll grab my friend Chris from HS or Juan from residency. Let's see if JohnH can grab another one of us Star Wars nuts.
EDIT: I messaged Juan. That'll probably bring us to 8.
-
even though John and IAS haven't registered officially yet,
My fault...I just registered so I'm officially in. I've also posted on ToyTraderz with the hopes of gaining a couple of more people.
John

Just registered. Sorry it took so long...
-
Thanks guys. :)
One week to go. We're at 7 teams, do we want more?
Also Rob suggested changing the scoring up. The only one to chime in thus far has been Dressel with a decline on the changing. Anyone else care to voice an opinion. I'm counting a lack of response as a vote for the status quo.
-
As this is the first time I'm participating in a fantasy baseball league, I don't have an opinion either way. I'll go with the majority on this one.
-
If it is, that's fine - he loves it because he wins all the time. :)
I'm in favor of a shake up, but I don't have any suggestion as to what it should be.
Are there more statistical categories that we don't currently use?
-

You know what would be ******* awesome - to keep it a rotisserie league, and use ALL of those categories.
-
Do we have the ability to weigh stats? If so, it would be cool to add some low-occurence stats like shutouts, complete games, triples, etc and give them a lower weighting.
If we're adding anything, I would recommend we *not* add any quantified stats in which more = worse. Walks (for pitchers), strikeouts (for hitters), errors...that kind of thing. We used turnovers and fouls in a basketball league once and it was way too easy to manipulate.
John
-
You know what would be ******* awesome - to keep it a rotisserie league, and use ALL of those categories.
I could set up a second league and enter the results from the draft manually into the second league if you want. But I won't be managing a team actively in a second league and I'm not about to mess up this league by throwing all that crap in there. Besides, adding all those becomes a ton of work for me because then I do have to set the weighting for each (walks = -1; strikeouts = -0.-37465; etc.).
In 2006 we used the following categories:
H/AB (=avg), R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB
IP, W, L, SHO, SV, ER, BB, K
If we were to add any of those, I'd suggest adding 2b, 3b for hitters and only SHO for pitchers.
I will also point out that the last time we had those categories Dressel won the league. The last two years the settings have been the same and Dressel didn't win either year.
-
I will also point out that the last time we had those categories Dressel won the league. The last two years the settings have been the same and Dressel didn't win either year.
I got ravaged by injuries the last 2 years though. In 2006 I had a total of 2 players that hadn't been hit by injuries. Ohmigod the pitching staff I had....and they all went down. Harden. Sheets. Prior. Ugh.
Anyhow, I have like 1 free day left to re-plan my strategy if you guys change anything, I'm set to go with the categories that the league is set for right now. If you guys change anything, could you not do it like right before the draft? The guys I'm gunning for right now might be suddenly undesirable if you move a lot of **** around from the way the settings looked when I registered.
I just want to restate my vote to leave the standard traditional roto scoring categories alone.
:)
-
I'm for leaving what we have for scoring...oh and I will win it all again (and I would be going for my 3rd straight if not for ******* Ichiro >:( >:( >:()
-
Executive decision: scoring remains the same.
In the absence of any other requests for change, the status quo shall be just that. Hopefully all have prepared for the draft on that basis. I know I've done tons of research to this point ::)
Are we worried about having eight players or are we ok with seven?
-
I'm still trying to get an 8th. 50-50 shot.
-
M'Kay,
Can you guys take a quick look over the stats categories again just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. I just pulled over last year's settings, so all should be good.
7/8, here we go again.
-
Looks like I got an 8th team. He should sign up soon. It's JD's "malloc," he played with us before.
-
8th team is all signed up.
See y'all tomorrow night on Y!
-
Very cool. I'm looking forward to this, although I'm sure I'm going to end up with one of the most jacked-up teams in the league.
-
I'm in two leagues.
Both drafts are tonight at the exact same time.
I won't be home for the draft anyway.
I haven't preranked my players.
I doubt I'll have time to prerank my players today.
Hellooooooooooo last place. :)
John
-
Are you all full?
-
No, we can take one more. Draft is tonight though. Nine teams is fine. :)
-
Hey guys, I know it's a little late, but how many position players are we allowed at each position? I've tried to find that info on Yahoo but couldn't come across it anywhere...
-
It's under league settings - I can't get to it from work or I'd copy them over for you.
-
Got it Rob, thanks.
-
Hey guys, I know it's a little late, but how many position players are we allowed at each position? I've tried to find that info on Yahoo but couldn't come across it anywhere...
The literal answer is as many as you want at each position, you just won't be able to slot them in properly. I think Kevin drafted four 1B one year (which isn't as bad as it sounds). The less literal interpretation is as follows:
Catcher -1
1B - 1
2B - 1
SS - 1
3B - 1
OF - 3
Utility - 1
SP - 2
RP - 2
P - 3
Bench slots = 6
So we're drafting 20+ rounds tonight :o
DL slots = 2 - only in use when your players are injured; obviously.
-
So we're drafting 20+ rounds tonight :o
So with 9 teams and 20-21 rounds, I should have about 180-190 players that I'm watching to make sure I cover my picks... Yeah, this isn't going to go well tonight :P
-
Don't worry. It is possible to recover from a bad draft.
-
So I just checked the league and it looks like JediMoses never registered a team. I'm still showing 8 teams... Oh well, one less person I have to worry about finishing behind in the rankings...
-
Draft's gonna start in a few. My prediction - Rob gets last pick as usual.
-
9:03? You psychic cheat!
-
Well, that was a lot of fun... Can't wait for the season to begin. If all the trash talk during the draft is any indication of how the rest of the season is going to go, this ought to be a riot.
Good luck everyone!
-
sorry, I got stuck in class later than I wanted. maybe next year.
-
Can we count on our annual post-draft from you Dressel?
-
Can we count on our annual post-draft from you Dressel?
I could, but most of our teams will look different enough through free agent additions and injuries by mid-season, it's almost not worth it.
-
Only comment I'll make is it sure seemed like you guys were pitching crazy this year compared to last year's draft.
-
I'm trying to be more balanced... it's all a blur, but one year I went way too heavy on batting and my pitching suffered tremendously. There was one year where I came in 3rd (out of a mere 7 teams), but that's the best I've done. I still haven't quite figured the baseball one out yet and for the most part I don't have injuries as an excuse like I do in Basketball this year.
-
I can think of at least 4 rounds in a row where I was going to take a pitcher and someone picked him right before I was going to...so I waited, I am ecstatic over my bats, my starting staff needs some work (and I hope Liriano comes through :-\)
-
The Yahoo page says we start with games on March 24th, but I don't have anyone playing (and it's only one guy) until 6 days later.
Is that normal? Are there even any games before that?
-

The first game I'm aware of is March 31st...
Only comment I'll make is it sure seemed like you guys were pitching crazy this year compared to last year's draft.
As evidenced by two of my starting pitchers projected to start the season on the DL, I'm glad I picked up a few extras... I'm very pleased with the bats I picked up, but I'm worried about that pitching staff...
-

The Red Sox and A's play two games (that count) in Japan while everyone else is still playing exhibition games. (They start at the convienent time of 6AM EST Tuesday and Wednesday the 25th and 26th if anyone wants to watch them) The Red Sox then return to the West Coast and play a couple of exhibition games against the Dodgers before starting up again against the A's with regular season games (that coincide with the start of the normal regular season for everyone else).
And yes, it's ******* stupid. Blame Bud Selig.
-
That explains it - I just don't have anyone on those teams then.
-

Man, I have 5. Harden (who's starting game 2), Street, Papelbon, Ellsbury, Lowell.
-
Looks like you'll get to spend the first week at the top then.
-
Looks like you'll get to spend the first week at the top then.
I think I've started every single fantasy baseball season that way.
Just haven't been able to hold on lately ;)
-
I guess if your hitters started cold, Harden gets the L, and Papelbon blows a save you could start off somewhere other than 1st.

So I couldn't pull the trigger and drop both of the hurt Angels I have in my roster, but I'm sure I'll eventually drop them both. They are saying mid-May at the earliest for Lackey to return to the starting rotation and you have to figure that his first 3-4 starts are going to suck... That puts him in June before he could be back to form. With Escobar, he is on a throwing program and they speculated that he'd be back in May, but he was quoted yesterday saying he feels terrible. Not the kind of quote you want to hear from one of the Angels top two starters from last year... So I dropped Escobar and am seriously thinking of doing the same to Lackey. Damn, I wish I would have seen that they were both hurt before we had the draft >:(!
I am a bit ticked off though that the White Sox dropped Josh Fields to the minors because they can't deal Crede. He was a solid utility player. I added Mark DeRosa from the Cubs, another solid utility guy, but I'll see if he gets a lot of playing time this year or not.
-
Don't drop your hurt guys yet. We have two injured reserve spaces on our rosters (IR). Yahoo probably won't move anyone to IR until the season starts in full. At that point, assuming yahoo and the teams designate them as IR, you can move them there and pick up replacements without dropping them.
Not the same for anyone sent to the minors though. You can either sit on them or drop them to pick someone else up. I'm watching to see if my catcher is sent down ::)
-
Don't drop your hurt guys yet.
Too late... I already dropped Escobar before you posted. I'll hold on to Lackey then and hopefully be able to pick up someone good enough to get me through the first few months...
-

Commish can re-add Escobar to your roster and place him on the DL. We recognize you haven't played before and didn't know that was a possibility. Not a problem.
-
He's back!
Let's see if he can pitch more than 50 innings this year.
If he can stay healthy, he'll be in contention for the AL Cy Young.
And for where I drafted him this year, I'm not complaining if he goes down.

On second thought, forget it. Escobar/LAA confirmed that he has a tear in his shoulder and could opt for season ending surgery.
-
So this is great... The White Sox are down 5-2 in the second and my wonderful addition to the team already has a 27.00 ERA... I think I would have been better served keeping Escobar on my f-ing team >:(!

Scratch that, 32.40 ERA and he's still not out of the second...

It is a loooooonngg season my friend.
-
Hey guys, forgive the rookie question, but what's the deal with some teams having as many as 24 players and others having the requisite 22? Am I missing something regarding the number of players you're allowed? Let me know. Thanks.
-

There's 22 players active/benched and 2 DL spots. If one of your players has a DL designation, use the drop down menu to the right of your player name to select DL and submit changes. You should then be able to pick up another player.

Thanks Dressel. I was viewing everything in the 'Drag and Drop' mode instead of the 'Classic' mode. I never even knew that option existed until you mentioned something. Thanks for the help.
-
Sweet Jeebus my team can't buy a hit. >:(
-
It's April. I'll tinker here and there, but for the most part my draft was solid. But I am right there with you on the suckage.
-
Yeah, I'm not panicking at this point - especially with my pitchers holding up their end of the deal so far.
Go figure though, I benched Dunn today since he's flat out sucked so far, and he goes for 2 Runs, a HR, 3 RBI, and a SB. ::)
-
Harden strained his vulva again.
If anyone's got time, it'd be fun to drag up my posts from the last 3 seasons chronicling all of the traumatic injuries Rich Harden has sustained to his vagina. I know you'll find a few.
-

I know the feeling, I benched Pudge and he went 2 for 2. My team average for tonight as of a few minutes ago was 0.048 >:(
-
Holy crap, I can't buy a win. Most of my pitching, aside from Sabathia hasn't been too bad, but I just can't get a win out of these jokers. Decent WHIP and ok ERA, all things considered, but 1 win? Ugh.
-

At least this time he only cost you your 17th rounder.
-
Hey, guess what CC Sabathia is doing tonight? Guess where I have him, based on his season ERA of 13.50? Yay me.

Ouch. That one's gonna be tender for a while.

First Jimmy Rollins, then Carlos Pena, and now BJ Upton. :'(

I wanted Mad Max Scherzer but had #8 waiver priority. Bug what number were you? Obviously Vader's Crusaders had #1 but didn't try to use it :o

Upton's allegedly fine.
May 1 CF B.J. Upton is expected to miss only one or two games after leaving Thursday's game with a left shoulder strain. Upton has had the problem before and said this is less severe than past occurrences.

I hope that's the case, but that's what they said about Rollins too and at this rate, he's never coming back.

Yup, I was number 2 on the wire list, so I"m a little happy.
I'm sure it's little consolation Rob, but Tulowitzki has sucked all year and now is gone until July, yet they still haven't put him on IR.
-

Ok, obviously I missed a big opportunity. Is there an easy way to see who's coming available on waivers? :-\
-
Must read news. All news, any news. This is an annoyingly competetive bunch around here.

Ok, well I can handle that. :)

Ohmigosh. Speaking of never coming back, just got this tidbit on Yovani Gallardo :'(
May 2 Assistant GM Gord Ash said that Gallardo has a complete tear of his ACL and will have surgery within the next week. He said that the Brewers don't expect Gallardo to return this season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

One of my favorite young players, too.
And I just had a Donovan McNabb flashback circa 2006.
-
Yeesh, they're dropping like flies. I just checked in to see if Tulowitzki had been moved to the DL but nope, not yet. Willingham has been though :-\
Oh, and I'm once again hating on Yahoo for not giving any kind of notice when a player isn't playing. >:(

That **** drives me crazy too - I guess no one really knows until final rosters are published? Yahoo never finds out until about a half hour before game time. Picking whether to play Doumit or Soto has been a huge headache.

Well I'll take one of them off your hands if it's too painful for you.
-
Doumit could be available for a RP.

Once again proving that setting foot on my team as a pitcher is the ultimate black hole....

**** - forgot to start Webb today and he's gone 5 shutout innings so far with a WHIP of about 0.30.

I don't hand out a lot of free fantasy advice.
I've done it a few times in the past though. Don't draft Shaq, the FT% will bury you. Don't draft Ichiro, you can't afford to give up the HR and RBI from an OF slot.
I will add this tidbit:
Don't forget to start your Cy Young caliber stud pitchers.
This fantasy minute has been brought to you courtesy of Dressel Rebel Championship Enterprises.
-
Don't forget to start your Cy Young caliber stud pitchers.
I'm going to beg to differ on this tidbit of advice. In most cases, my Cy Young caliber stud pitchers not starting probably would have me in the middle of our league rather than sucking dust.
At least I finally woke up and didn't start Verlander today.
-
Well, Webb's hardly the same thing as your guy. Web is 6-0 and at the top of his game. He'd have to give up 10 runs in each of his next 3 stars before I'd even consider sitting him.
If their game had just started later I'd have gotten to it... I had a busy morning at work and forgot to check until around 2:00... :-\
-
True, but Sabathia has one of them senor yung awards somewhere. He just kinda sucks. But that's ok, cuz he's very comfortable with the rest of my staff ::)
-
Webb is 6-0 8-0 and at the top of his game.
Fixed.

MLB's greatest wasted talent, Rich Harden, is back today.
Any guesses on how many starts he can make before landing back on the DL with a vaginal strain?
I'll start.

Miraculously and completely by mistake I had John Broxton on the bench today. ERA for one innings work: 168.0 :o
-
Surely with an ERA that high he didn't get through a whole inning.
-
Nope. 1/3. It's so bad it's funny. Fits in well on my team really.
-
Anyone have any interest in Doumit and/or Capps?
I could package the two of them for a decent bat...

Teixeira who?

26 runs
10 HR
49 RBI
12th round draft pick.
If anyone has a good swinging-for-the-fences picture of him in a Rangers uni let me know.

Best I could find.
He did have a good quarter of the season. I'm not completely sold yet, but so far so good.
-
He's on pace for about 185 RBI. :D
I'm probably jinxing the hell out of him... ::)

I will say this about Cliff Lee:
Lucky. Start.
Cliff Lee is the beneficiary of good luck to this point. Sometime in June he'll revert to his 4.50 ERA 1.40 WHIP self, and the entire house of cards will come crashing down. His victims to this point this season have been: OAK (sucks) , OAK (sucks) , MIN (average) , KAN (sucks) , SEA (sucks) , NYY (banged up severely), and TOR (banged up severely).
This is not a mystery. Match him up against Boston or Arizona and show me those numbers, then I might start to believe.
He's gonna have a wretched 2nd half, so just be ready to bail. You heard it here first. Do not drink the Cliff Lee Kool-Aid.
Now for a REAL undrafted stud:

My gut tells me that you're right about all of that, but I'm not going to sit him until it happens. His numbers have been incredible so far.

On the other hand, I just checked the Cleveland Indians' schedule for the rest of this year. They face like 1 good opponent, and that's in September when they have 4 games with Boston. But I think some of the average teams will rough Lee up anyhow, just maybe not as bad as I originally thought. A team like the Rays might kill him.
Now say something nice about Nate McLouth.
-
Now say something nice about Nate McLouth.
He's this year's Prince Fielder?
And by that I mainly mean, a guy who started hot, was available, that I passed on, who will end up having a monstrous year, and I'll be kicking myself until the end.

He's not winning any beauty contests for sure, but he has had a good 1st quarter of the season and shaken that abominable experience in Texas.

I'd pick up John Lester too if Scott Olsen was my other option.
-
I'd pick up John Lester too if Scott Olsen was my other option.
:D
I'm carrying too many pitchers as it is while waiting for Hernandez and Verlander to realize they should throw the ball properly. I admit Lester was a knee-jerk reaction, but a Boston pitcher that's pitching well isn't a bad thing really. I have no worries the no-no will not be repeated. I'm looking more for wins than anything else at the moment. And ultimately I'll cut back on my roster by one or two pitchers down the road, most likely Lester will be one of them. No harm, no foul.
By all rights I have a good pitching staff. If I could erase the wasted innings in the first three weeks I'd be laughing, but as it is the ERA and WHIP are coming down. The K's are ok, at least on a per inning basis. Saves are sweet but wins are laughable. That'll change in time. I'll gain some points in pitching soon enough as my ERA falls while others climb. Same for WHIP.
I'd happily settle out with Marcum, Sabathia, Scherzer, Verlander and Fernandez providing the last two get it together.
-
Brett, do you have any interest in Haren?
-
Moi? Not especially. It would depend what you're looking for in return but there's little I'd part with really. I'm comfortable with my pitching staff really, aside from those horrid April numbers. Last night went like this:
Two starters, two closers, one middle relief pitcher.
16 innings pitched
16 K
1 win
2 saves
1.69 ERA
1.00 WHIP
That's along the lines of what I thought I'd drafted. And it was Verlander who got the win too (oh-oh). Sabathia didn't get the win, but honestly I was nervous about starting him against the ChiSox at home. He took the loss but he pitched well and I can live with his game end ERA. Three runs from the offense instead of one (while he's pitching) and it's a win with nice numbers instead.
-
Well Dressel's interested... but I'm not sure what on his team I'd want (that he'd be willing to part with at least...).
-

If you want to deal Dan Haren, I'll take him. Offer me up something and we'll go from there.

Was I really the only one in awe of the studliness? I never thought I had a shot with waiver priority #6.

-
Nope, but I got my rook. Yours may end up better but I wouldn't have got him anyway. Unfortunately mine seems slotted into middle relief at the moment. Of course I can endure watching my ERA and WHIP tumble while the K's going up, so it's not all bad. Just need me some wins.
-
Eh... after the dominant first start by Cueto I thought I'd struck gold, then a few starts later he was off the team and no one else had interest. I think these rosters are too tight though - it's nearly impossible to carry enough pitchers to compete, and to have any real back up plans at most of the field positions - which in turn makes it tough to pick up guys who are unknown quantities.
-
Talk about a slump, so far since Tuesday, through tonight, my offense has gone just 7 for their last 63 (.111) with just 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB, and 0 HR.
WTF :o ::)
-
Have I expressed my freakish man love for Chase Utley yet? :-*
And Fielder now has three home runs in his last four games. Wonder if somebody fed him a burger? Oh-oh.

26 At Bats

Any interest in Miguel Cabrera?
I was looking at that in a package for Haren, been mulling that over. PM me a proposition (not including Burrell) or offer it up on Y!
-
I'm a little more gun shy about letting Haren go at this point. Would you have interest in Cabrera if Haren wasn't available?
Maybe Miguel Cabrera and Jimmy Rollins for Hanley Ramirez?
-

I might go for that. Let me take a look at the numbers and I'll get back to you this afternoon.
-
Right on.
Keep in mind Rollins was out for 3 weeks or so when you eye his numbers.
And keep in mind I drafted those guys at numbers 8 and 9 overall.
-
Right on.

Yeah I get all that, this is intriguing. Trade Ramirez who was taken 2nd overall in the draft and is currently performing up to those expectations for Cabrera and Rollins who were taken low 1st round and who historically performed to that level, but are barely performing up to Top 100 expectations this season.
It's a gamble with high upside for me, and a fairly safe bet for you with a chance I might realize the upside on my end and get the better deal.
Interesting - i'll gnaw on this one while I'm battling tooth decay in the PM.
-
No doubt, they've underperformed but Rollins started off very well and I keep reading opinions that Cabrera is set to break out big. There's no reason they shouldn't turn it around and I won't be crushed if I roll with them. I don't want to sound like I'm overselling this thing but it almost leaves me nervous that it could work out for you too well or Rameriez could get hurt and I could be kicking myself. In any event your analysis is dead on - slightly more risk for you, but there's a lot of potential pay off.
-
I'm a little more gun shy about letting Haren go at this point. Would you have interest in Cabrera if Haren wasn't available?

Drilled some teeth, pulled one, slept on it. You've got yourself a deal. I offered it up on Y!
:o
-
Cool - I'm going to mull it over for a few more hours and then in all probability accept it.
-
Short term it sure looks like a ****-up to drop Doumit huh?
I just didn't feel like I had enough space on the roster to keep 2 catchers...
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to say thanks. :-X ;)
-
Be honest, would you have traded anything for him?
I think we need about 2 more bench spots... ::)
-
Young or Cuddyer maybe. Not much else. Honest.
-
I wouldn't have any use for those guys - so that takes a little of the sting off. In any event, I'm pretty happy with Soto as it is.
-
I think we need about 2 more bench spots... ::)
I second that. Or possibly another DL spot... I've got three guys on the DL right now and at one point had 5 :o.
-
I don't like seeing people penalized for IR stuff so you should be able to replace those players that are hurt. I'm ok with one more bench spot but I think 2 is too many as guys just store players on their roster. I think the 2 DL spots makes up for the need for too many more bench spots so I'm suggesting just one more bench spot.
It's more fun making hard decisions than watching people store bodies on their roster for the sole purpose of not letting others have them.
I can see having another DL spot next year (up to 3) but at the same time, the same argument applies: how much value do you place on that player? Dressel got hammered last year with IR stuff, others have as well. Just part of the game, whether it's baseball, football, basketball or whatever.
-
Well I just want more guys because I don't have any way to really maintain back-ups for the entire field. Unless you end up with a guy who is designated at multiple positions, it's really hard to use up all your games and innings. Part of this is because most teams play 5 or 6 games a week and there aren't a lot of days when you can actually get your other players in. I had designs of keeping Doumit and Soto because in the 3 or 4 years I've done this I've never even come close to using all my games at Catcher - but I just don't have the roster space to devote to 2 of those guys, and it's a shame because I set it up the way I wanted it.
-
I was just thinking, hypothetically, if one of us were to start 3 pitchers, like maybe a Padre, a D'Back, and a Brave, and like, they gave up a combined 21 H, 18 ER, 9 BB, and 6 HR in... i dunno.... say 11.2 IP, that would be really bad.
Just had a dream about that happening, it'd be weird if it really did.
I must have had a large carbohydrate load directly prior to sleep.
-
Yeah, that was an ungodly result last night. I sort of thought it would happen to Hudson since the Rangers can hit, but Webb? That blew my mind.
Now I'm thinking I have to sit Haren today with the way the A's were swinging... My pitching is definitely taking a turn for the worse.
-
Now I'm thinking I have to sit Haren today with the way the A's were swinging... My pitching is definitely taking a turn for the worse.
Or you can package him with Burrell and send him to me for Ellsbury.
-
With my pitching as suddenly shaky as it is, I'm going to hang onto him for now.
And Brutal is the word I was looking for earlier... those numbers were brutal.
-
With my pitching as suddenly shaky as it is, I'm going to hang onto him for now.
Haren and Burrell aren't the players you're looking for. You will move them along to me.
-
So I'm going to take a wild guess and say that 'INF' in the ERA and WHIP columns for Carlos Marmol stands for 'infinity'... WOW! And I thought Mark Buehrle's opening day performance was bad... That ruined an otherwise good night from my other pitchers...
-

Yeah, ERA is earned runs divided by IP - so apparently Marmol couldn't record an out and gave up some batting practice.
Just once I'd like to see "INF" on my bank statement instead of my Y! team page.
:D
-

Yeah, he walked two, hit a batter and then was taken out... The next pitcher gave up a grand slam...
Just once I'd like to see "INF" on my bank statement instead of my Y! team page.
Now that I would like to see!
-
Does anyone know where I can check on stat corrections? 2 of the runs Webb gave up in his last start were changed to unearned and I want to make sure that's reflected in the numbers.
-
It never fails. A few days after I get rid of him Curtis Granderson starts a 15 day hitting streak and raises his average almost 60 points:
Granderson hit a pair of triples and extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Over the past 15 games Granderson is hitting .436 (24-for-55) with two homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases and has raised his average from .235 to .294. The window of opportunity to obtain Granderson from a disgruntled owner is gone, but if you were able to buy low, enjoy the ride.
-
Yeah, thanks for that. I went in last night looking to check on some pitchers and saw Granderson's name there near the top of the batters list. I thought to myself gee, that's odd.
;D
-
Matt Caps gives up 2 runs without recording an out for an INF ERA and an INF WHIP.
But it's all good, because Halladay throws 9 scoreless with a WHIP of 0.44, and Valverde, Cordera, and Soria all throw scoreless 9ths for a W and 2 Saves bringing my day's ERA total down into the low 3's.
Then I come out from watching an episode of Rome to find that Fuentes ****** something up and put up a 135.00 ERA and a WHIP of 15.00.
Thanks for nothing jackass.
-

5 ER on 5H for the loss, he came in with the game tied.
-
What an *******.
A side note, is there any way to figure out when a guy's next scheduled start will be? I'm going to be away from the internet until Saturday night and would like to get all my pitchers set up appropriately, but I don't know when they'll start next. I have a pretty good idea that Lee and Halladay won't pitch before Saturday or Sunday (since Halladay threw yesterday and Lee tonight), and Haren always throws after Webb, but I don't know when Hudson, Webb-then-Haren, and Duchscherer will throw next and I can't plug more than 2 of them in for any given day without having to rest closers.
Any tips on that would be most appreciated.
-
My starters usually have a ^ symbol beside them up to five days in advance when you go forward through your schedule. The other way is to click on the players name and it brings up their page with stats/news and usually has "next scheduled start" listed as well. Neither is 100% dependable, but it's better than nothing.
-
Ah, thanks - I'll check that out. I never thought to look at the ^ for pitchers. It's generally worthless with batters and I got into the habit of ignoring it.
-
I usually go to the 'Scores and Schedule' link and check the schedule for the next few days. It usually only goes out three or four days, but if you check it on Thursday, you should be covered for the weekend.
-
Ah, thanks - I'll check that out. I never thought to look at the ^ for pitchers. It's generally worthless with batters and I got into the habit of ignoring it.
Yeah, it's really aggravating with batters, no argument there. But it's proven pretty accurate for pitching, injuries notwithstanding.
-

I don't know how i missed this post.
Yes click on "Players" next to "My Team" and then under Players in that screen 6 blue links appear in a line. The last one is "stat corrections."
Look at Week 13, Webb got his corrected - 2 ER.
-
Thanks Matt.
-
Is the KC/White Sox box score all screwed up or something? I didn't watch the game but I was following along on stat tracker and saw Soria pitch a 1-2-3 ninth for a 5-4 win and the save, but Yahoo isn't crediting him with it, and it says it was an 11-9 game in 13 innings.
ESPN's box score says it was a 8-7 game in 13 innings.
MLB has it as 8-7 in 13 too.
What happened in that game?
-
Looks like the Sox tied it 5-5 in the 8th, went up 7-5 in the 11th, Royals tied it 7-7 in the bottom of the 11th, Sox went up 8-7 in the 13th and got out of a bases loaded bottom of the 13th to win it 8-7. Sounds like it was a crazy game...
Couple of notable quotes:
Ozzie Guillen: "The only good thing about this game is we won."
Scott Linebrink: "I have really have only two words for my night, I stink."
-
So yahoo must have had the wrong score when I was following along and saw Soria get that 5-4 save. Shame.
-
Your expectations of Soria are too high.
-
Huh?
Soria has top 5 RP fantasy numbers this year. Why would my expectation that he could work a scoreless 9th be too high?
-
It was a joke. Nothing more.
-
Right. In the future I'm going to need some form of smilie or emoticon please, thank you. :-\
-
Yeah, I thought I clicked on the winky but guess I missed it. Stop taking me so seriously, kay? I'll only **** on you in the gas thread :-* ;) ;D (better?)
-
Most definitely. ;D
-
I agree that Soria will probably save all 6 of the Royals wins that will happen in the 2nd half.
And Rob, I'ma comin' for yo' top spot fool.
-
I'm honestly expecting that. I feel like my team is probably that horse that runs out of gas right at the end after having a lead all race.
As for Soria, he should be good for another 15 to 20 saves me thinks given how rare it is for him to blow one.
On another note, does anyone have any interest in Tim Hudson?
-
On another note, does anyone have any interest in Tim Hudson?
Nope but I'd still deal Matt Kemp or Jacoby Ellsbury for Dan Haren.
You know who else I have interest in? Rich Harden. If he were any more ripped, his muscles would be on the outside and his skin would be on the inside. Mmmmmmm. Let's show some man love.
-
The price for Haren went up considerably since the last time we spoke. Yahoo's got him ranked as the 11th overall player and he's throw about a bazillion scoreless innings since the last time his name came up.
But with Halladay, Lee, and Duchscherer ranked 6, 7, and 8 just ahead of Haren, I could be convinced to move him for the right price.
Congrats on moving back into 1st - I'm just hoping to keep it a 2 horse race until the end.
-
But with Halladay, Lee, and Duchscherer ranked 6, 7, and 8 just ahead of Haren, I could be convinced to move him for the right price.
Okay, well, let me know what that price is, and I'll promptly let you know if I can pay it.
-
I'll take a look this weekend and get to you.
-
He's quickly turning into my very own Rich Harden.
-
I love it when 2 relievers combine for 9 runs in one inning.
-
So the Orioles and Blue Jays played a double header today - but only one game is showing up on my page...
Am I missing something or is that a Yahoo screw up?
-
You, sir, need to learn patience.
I'd suspect it just wasn't the original input in the program as last night's game was suspended, so they just don't have it set yet. I'm sure the proper stats will show up within a day or so. Breathe...... ;)
-
Oh I'm calm.
I just didn't realize it was scheduled on such short notice, so I asked.
-
Ok, the game last night was weird anyway. It should have started a lot earlier and Yahoo didn't post anything until like 11 PM central and then all of a sudden it was suspended. I was kind of excited, since the game was 2-1 when it was on and I have both Sherrill and Ryan, so I was thinking at least one save and then nada.
I assume the reschedule was just because it was a light day in the league anyway. Truthfully I didn't even look at the schedule yesterday to see if they were playing today, so I didn't even know there was a double header.
Either way, yeah, yahoo glitch. Yet again :-*
-
The first Orioles vs. Blue Jays game was the conclusion of a suspended game from earlier in the year. It was not a true double header.
The 2nd game was a regular game.
All the stats will come out right in the end because 50,000 nerds like us email Y! about this. It'll all come out in the wash.

Sounds like it is finally Liriano Time...so long Livan!

Yeah we saw that in May. I wasn't too impressed.
I think that arm surgery took a piece of Liriano that he isn't soon going to get back.
We'll see.

Was that why you picked him 8 weeks ago?
10-0 over his last 11 starts at Triple is pretty crap too

Triple A. That's the key.
And he got shelled a lot there too.
Anyhow let's see 5 starts in the bigs, and see if he's anything like he was in 2006. I'm betting on "no".

****.
Tue, Aug 19 2B Ian Kinsler has very possibly played his last game of the season. What was initially called a sore left groin after Kinsler left Sunday's game is most likely a sports hernia, team orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister told the All-Star second baseman after an MRI exam on Monday. Kinsler will see a specialist in hernia repair, perhaps as early as Tuesday and could have surgery that would knock him out for the season.
-
Well, a few things about that Rob.
1. Duchscherer is hurt too (and a FA in our league) and Upton sucks so no harm no foul there.
2. It would be quite a feat for you to lose this one now with or without Kinsler. I have designs on making a late run here, but I'd say it's better than 80-20 odds that you're going to beat me out this year.
-
Yeah, I hate to hand out a championship this early, but it's looking like a stretch. Losing Kinsler doesn't hurt the odds though.
-
Don't get too excited though Rob I do have a path to victory here and I am not waving the white flag of surrender just yet. I will contest this to the last out of the 162nd game.
I have caught you twice in the last 6 weeks and if one of those streaks hits in September I could catch lightning in a bottle.
-
I'm certainly not holding my breath. If there was a week left, sure, but not with this many games to go.
It doesn't help that my bats have gone cold for about 3 straight days now either.
EDIT: good news this morning...
Wed, Aug 20 Kinsler (sports hernia) may be able to avoid season-ending surgery after further examination revealed just inflammation and not a tear in the abdominal wall, the team's web site reports.
And of course, Ian Stewart, who I added on Monday night to replace Kinsler, Ian Stewart who didn't show up in my roster until today, went 2 for 3 with a home run and 5 RBI yesterday. ::)

One more start...the only thing not there is the K's, I'll take 4 W's, a sub 1.00 ERA and WHIP though any day of the week.
-
I concede that argument to you, through 4 starts you're right.
I don't really get it, the velocity isn't there. But I'd still like to see a larger sample size.

Slider is almost as nasty as it was before, plus he's learned how to throw his change up a lot better than '06. While his fastball isn't at 96-97 it is still 92-94...I think he'll be just fine
-
Alright, now I think I'm losing it. The TOOLS tab is gone on my team page.
Did it get moved?
-
I don't see one on my page either Rob, but then I don't think I'd ever looked for it before so I can't say if it is gone, moved, or something else. Sorry.
-
Hey guys, I was looking at my roster today and realized that I hadn't been paying close attention to my innings pitched for my pitching staff. Somehow, I'm projected to be +74 innings for the season at my current pace. I took a look at everyone else's projections for the season and it seems that I'm the only one that is that far over for the year. Seeing as how this is my first year in the league, was this something that I completely mismanaged, or is it just that I had a lot of pitchers that went 7 to 8 innings in a lot of their starts this season (Sheets and Lackey come to mind right away)?
What sucks is that at this pace, I'm going to miss a lot of my pitcher's last couple of starts...
-
I'm amazed you're that far over, but I guess yeah, if you haven't had guys like Verlander that get pulled after 1.2 innings, then I guess you could get that far up in innings. I'm up by about 18 or so innings but right now I'm ok with that since it was mostly my pitchers pitching in bunches and Sabathia's full game streak. Through the season I tried to pick and choose the starts and watched the innings really closely too (not that my staff did anything but suck, Sabathia excepted).
But yes, bluntly you are indeed screwed with respect to innings, so use them wisely. :-\
-
Which is why I was trying to get starters from your before the trade deadline. No big whoop on my end because I think I can still get 2nd, it is 1st that might be tougher :-\
-
If nothing else, my standings in the league have taught me that I hate baseball. ::)

Sorry Scott, comlpetely missed the fact that I was projected to be that far over in innings... Had I paid closer attention to that, I bet I would have taken you up on at least one of those trade offers.
However I have picked up some valueable lessons for next year!

Mmmm. I think you better set your sights on 3rd.

Until I realized my complete **** up with the innings, I was setting my sights on 3rd considering I'm only 1.5 points behind at the moment. Now I'll be lucky to keep 5th...

Funny, I was thinking he should be happy with 4th. Once Prince Fielder gets going, look out. Cuz I'm still waiting. ::)
-
I have like 50-80 innings on everyone and have been holding in W's and S's and slowly working up in K's. My BA is going up steadily and I've been holding on pretty much everything else. Getting my WHIP down and hopefully getting some more runs puts me in 2nd
-
Well I might be looking at second. I'm still fully expecting my merry band of idiots to find a way to go into a collective slump for the last 3 weeks. :-\
-
The Tools tab is back. Either it went away on accident, or they got enough emails asking where it went to put it back.
-

Told you. My team has gone ice cold. :'(
-
Evan Longoria... in a little bit of a return-from-injury slump... so I sit him tonight in favor of Aubrey Huff who went yard last night.
So far tonight, Longoria has THREE homeruns. :'(
-
So far tonight, Longoria has THREE homeruns. :'(
And I hope he keeps going, not for your sake but for the White Sox's sake... They are sucking ass against the Yankees tonight and could use some help from the Rays so they don't lose their lead...
So I've exceeded my maximum allowed innings... Got might sights set on 7th place now...
-

Same here, if I read it right, the Rays can clinch a playoff spot with a series split against the Twins, but it looks like they blew it tonight. >:(

Does anyone know how Yahoo will handle a rainout if the make-up game happens after the season ends? If I sit my Phillies tonight/tomorrow and the game gets rained out and played on Monday or whatever after the Yahoo calendar ends, does it get applied to today/tomorrow's stats, potentially altering the outcome of the season?
Or do those games just disappear?
OR, will Yahoo extend their calendar to cover Monday, and I can play different guys this weekend and still throw them in for the make-up date? ???
-
Rob,
I don't know and it doesn't say anywhere, so I'd guess that you should go with the expectation of anything after Sunday not counting for the yahoo league stats. I know MLB has already cancelled some double headers this week because they won't be able to fit them in, so some teams are playing less than 162 games. Those cancelled games were missed games from earlier in the season and wouldn't alter the finish of the teams apparently.
-
Congrats to Rob for winning by the looks of things. I thought your pitching was good at the start of the year, but I honestly never thought Cliff Lee would pitch like that all season. Still, pretty much end to end lead, nice work.
Congrats too to Dressel and the Crabs for #2/3 respectively.
Guess you can't have a ****** first six weeks of the season and realistically expect to recover. :-\
-
I'm reluctant to say thanks until it's officially over - so I'll hold off for just a bit.
Lee definitely came up big, and Haren and Webb were outstanding until the last month or so. Looks like Soria managed to save more than 6 games in the second half of the season too. :)
You had me worried the last few days with the K's push you made Brent, when it was really close I was worried that was going to cost me the lead.
-
The coolest part about this year is basically no one gave up. My K's could have affected the outcome and in a lot of ways, everyone was affected by other teams which made it interesting down to the wire. Big battles between 1/2 and 3/4 with even 5/6/7 place not being decided until the last days.
With one game left, I don't think you can lose.
-
Congrats Rob, Dressel & Crabs on your finishes. That was a lot of fun. Looking forward to doing it again next year. I'm hoping I won't make the same mistakes next year that I did this year... I ended up giving away a lot of wins and K's by not having innings left at the end. Oh well, live and learn.
-
Now that it seems to be official, thanks guys. ;D Now all I have to do is win Hockey to have one championship in all four major sports.

Well, congrats on the baseball. You beat me fair and square - that pitching staff turned out to be the sickest I've ever seen in 18 years of fantasy baseball. Webb, Haren, Halladay, Cliff Lee. Too much to overcome with those ratios ERA/WHIP low beyond belief.
About only needing a championship in Hockey though to have all 4, that's not valid in my view. I was locked out of the basketball league the year you won for no reason, thanks to Jeff. I came back in, overtook you, and won the championship each of the next 2 seasons. And unless I'm there and you get by me, it doesn't count as far as I'm concerned. That one's got an asterisk.
:)
-
Congrats to everyone on the fun season. My staff absolutely imploded the last week of the season and the 3rd place trophy slipped away...

Collusion sure is a valid reason. Now that Kevbo isn't playing, we don't seem to have those accusations anymore...hmmm?

Thanks! I tried to draft for hitting, and then tried to pick up decent pitchers in the mid-rounds... I never dreamed those guys would be that good. It was nice to be able to get so many wins with so few roster positions.

I looked all over Yahoo and didn't see any asterisks anywhere. ;)

sounds like a fun time; i hope you guys do this again next season
