Title: Carded Wedge, finally!
Post by: Jeff on July 13, 2005, 01:14 PM
OK, so it's a repack of the Carry Case figure, but I'll finally be able to add Wedge to my carded collection...

Internet Exclusive Wedge Antilles Carded Action Figure w/exclusive Collector Card and Case:

Now available for pre-order at StarWarsShop.com (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=103988&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001)!

Guess I'll just get 1...

At the bottom of the page it does say that bothe figure and cards a re prototypes, but still, very disappointing. :'(

I'm happy about this news as well.  I would have rather had a newly sculpted Wedge (and at a $5-6 pricepoint as well), but this is a figure I've always wanted to add to my collection.  Nice to see that he is coming as a carded figure for the first time, although they could have probably gotten away with releasing him to retail.  Either way, I'm happy that Wedge is coming our way.

I've always gotten a kick out of these steroid monster POTF2 figures, but I think maybe it's time to move on and give us something new?

  ::)

$15.99?  That's seriously pushing the limits of what even I'll pay.

My memory for this kind of thing stinks but... when they gave us the choice on what figure would be the 36th OTC figure, was the Wedge from the Carrying Case one of those choices?

I'm glad they're giving us this figure individually carded, but the Wedge from the 3-pack is a WAY BETTER figure than this one. If they were going to give us a carded Wedge figure, I'd prefer it was the one from the Rebel Pilots cinema scene.

I just ordered my two. *sigh* Lemming Peter reporting for duty!

With shipping this like a $20 figure, great.   ???

Hopefully they'll have some pics of it packaged at SDCC.

And to complete the screw-over to my fellow Canuckleheads, shipping is $17.95 by FedEx, which means we'll also get hit with at least $15 in brokerage fees.

So to order 2 figures + shipping + customs + brokerage fees = $65US = $78CDN

**** you StarWarsShop.com and your exclusives.   >:(

Nope...

http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/id.1008/dn/default.cfm

- R2-D2 with holographic Princess Leia
- Admiral Motti
- Ree-Yees
- Death Star Trooper
- Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise (from 2001 Trash Compactor Scene Pack)
- Imperial Scanning Crew Trooper (from Millennium Falcon Carrying Case)

but the Imp Scanning Trooper who won was included with the carry case so that may be what you are thinking.

I just ordered my two. *sigh* Lemming Peter reporting for duty!

Yeah, I can feel the OCD kicking in too...  :-\

It looks like my hope for a decent Wedge figure, after 10 years, has been finally and completely **** upon and stomped out of existence.

There's zero reason for this figure to be done in this way. Zero. They have the new and vastly superior (abeit tall) rebel pilot sculpt, an acceptable headsculpt of Wedge from the Rebel Pilots CS, and the removable helmet from either the 3-pack or Gold Leader figures to kitbash from.

This is **** served up hot and fresh.

**** you, Hasbro.

This is an EASY pass for me.  This is ridiculous and a slap in the face to all collectors - carded and loose.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.....
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Diddly on July 13, 2005, 02:08 PM
Completely insane. A POTF2 rerelease, when there is a much better Screen Scene version out there? Hell, they could have kitbashed a new figure with the SAGA Gold Leader! And at $16? That's just a slap in the face. >:(

Looks like we'll never get a new Wedge figure. :(
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Jim on July 13, 2005, 02:21 PM
We got freakin hosed.  $20 for the Carry Case version.  Like Pete mentioned.  The Cinema Scene is far superior.
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Ben on July 13, 2005, 02:28 PM
What a ******* joke. Would it have been that hard to throw the CS Wedge head on a Gold Leader's body?

I'll pass on this one. $20 for that figure is a slap in the face.
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Brian on July 13, 2005, 02:30 PM
I never picked up the CS version of Wedge, but gathering from what everyone is saying...as a loose collector...I might be better off going that way.  I certainly don't feel like spending $20 for a POTF2 repack.  We'll see, I'd like a Wedge one way or another...I'll hold off until we see a carded sample...maybe at Comic-Con.
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Nathan on July 13, 2005, 02:31 PM
Yeah this is just stupid. If it was a new sculpt (or even one of the kitbashed ones described above) I would have at least considered it. But if they think I'll pay $20+ (including shipping) for this thing, they're further gone than I suspected.

No offense to anyone who buys this, but if you do it only ensures we'll get more crap like this in the future.

"Just Say No!" ;)

Post by: Mikey D on July 13, 2005, 02:38 PM
I'm passing, even though I don't have snowspeeder Wedge.  I only bought one MF CC (on clearance for $7) and it was to get the Scanning Tech.  If I want a Wedge to fly my second snowspeeder, I'm sure I can get a cheap one on ebay.

Post by: MetalJedi on July 13, 2005, 03:34 PM
Boy are they batting a thousand!  ::) Like it was said before I would of thought they would use a more recent sculpt like the CS Wedge. Its far superior that the steroid CC one. I feel like its 2004 all over again.

Yep same here.  That is nothing but a damn joke.  I can't even believe they bothered making this an exclusive.  If you are going to do the rehash route then just make this figure available to all retail outlets.

There is nothing special about this Wedge figure unless you are jazzed about the trading card?  Wow.  What a favor you did for us on this one Hasbro.  Thanks but I will keep my $20 and spend it on something deserving.

Once again it's a decent idea by Hasbro but extremely bad in the execution.
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: dafoo on July 13, 2005, 04:06 PM
But it has a FREE collectable Topps trading card!!!

and it comes in a protective CASE!  that's worth double a typical figure + shipping. =p

My fears for the future grow, a dark shadow is cast across the galaxy.
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: DoctorPadawan on July 13, 2005, 04:18 PM
Okay, I can't be the only one who sees the humor behind how much Hasbro and SWS.com are charging for this.  As has been said, for us Americans, it's going to end up being 20 bucks per figure for Wedge in a fancy clamshell case.

The humor part is that the Wedge, when he was released back in 1997 or so, also cost 20 bucks at retail.  But then, he came with a (poorly designed and executed) carrying case.  Now the case is gone, but you still get to pay 20 bucks for him!  Great move Hasbro!

Seriously, if Hasbro ever reads this, are you intentionally trying to destroy the line and any interest that collectors or the general public have left in it?  If so, you're doing a bang-up job.   >:(

That being said, I agree with Jared completely: **** Hasbro.  Those human paraquats.

It looks like Entertainment Earth (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS87058) has this up for preorder now as well, with a slightly cheaper $12.99 price (depending on shipping).
Title: Re: Wedge!
Post by: Jeff on July 13, 2005, 04:23 PM
I think it is important to note that the StarWarsShop.com info says:

"Rebel hero Wedge Antilles is available as a carded figure exclusively through online retailers. "

"you will not find this bundle offered anywhere else! Remember, this figure cannot be purchased through traditional mass merchant retailers -- it is an internet exclusive."

The only place they really claim they have an exclusive is with the "bundle" of Wedge, Case, and Topps card they are offering.  There is still the chance that another place may carry Carded Wedge without the junk for a cheaper price...  maybe we just haven't heard from them yet.   ;)

edit: D'oh!  Brian beat me to it...

That is funny! But the only reason I bought it in 97 was for the figure. (I bought it twice since there was a paint variant for him as well) and I never once used the falcon as a carrying case. I'm a lemming. :P

That 1997 Wedge was fair for its time.

But after the VOTC and ROTS lines, rehashing anything from before 2001 is unacceptable.

Spuffy's going to hate this. He wants a new carded Wedge badly, and this is likely all we'll ever get now.

I actually laughed when I read about that Wedge figure on our front page.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up for a new figure...  Even one cobbled out of newer parts.  I'll just work on the assumption that's it, and you're paying for the spiffy cards he has.

That's funny though...  Just seeing that thing POTENTIALLY make it back to retail is funny.

And they certainly know that us collectors and Wedge fans aren't going to be happy with the scenario. Most unfortunate.

Bummer Jared, but nice of you to take the time to ask the questions that matter too.

Hasbro's probably regretting that thing getting announced right prior to the show.

Glad I didn't preorder...  The cards are nice I'm sure but not on my priority list to own, not by a longshot.  I'd love a new ROTJ Wedge and ESB Wedge, but guess they're maybe down the road figures.

Wow!

Check this out... Wedge is now up for pre-order at New Force Comics.

Wedge for $9.99 plus $4 shipping (http://newforcecomics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NFCC&Product_Code=SW-INTWEDGE&Category_Code=SWP3C) - plus, only $1 more in shipping for each additional Wedge you order.  2 shipped for $25, 3 Shipped for $36!

Case of 12 Wedge for $109.99 plus $9 shipping (http://newforcecomics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NFCC&Product_Code=SW-INTWEDGEC&Category_Code=SWP3C) - that works out to $10 each including shipping!

I'm taking the gamble on Rick and Co and I orderd myself a case of 12 - $10 each shipped is a great price compared to what the other guys are charging ($13-$16).   ;D

This is very strange, 'cause the rehashed (1998) Wedge was brought up at the Comic Con Q & A (in a rather perturbed manner), but the Hasbro reps stated that's the best they could come up with for Wedge at this time.  They never mentioned, or even hinted at the possibility, that it might be a better version like this one based on Dutch.  No idea why they'd do that...

Regardless, this one's obviously much better, and I'm probably going to have to get at least 3 of them now.

Man, I was happy with the Wedge I have from the Rebel Pilots cinema scene. Now I'll have to think about it.  Looks like they took the POTJ Luke (buckteeth) and put the Wedge head on him with the Dutch helmet modified. I'll have to pull one of my Luke's out from POTJ to confirm, but just off the top of my head that is what it looks like they did. Still, I am going to think about this . . .

Wow!   :o

What a HUUUUGE improvement this new kitbashed Wedge is over the 1997 stinker they originally pictured.

See Hasbro, THIS is how you use re-paints/rehashes to keep us Fans excited!

- Don't re-paint the Nemoidian Warrior.
- DO re-use the Dutch Vander Body with the Cinema Scene Wedge Head to give us a great new Wedge!

- Don't re-paint Shu Mai.
- DO re-use the Dutch Vander Body with a new head to give us a great new Biggs!

- Don't re-paint the Grievous Bodyguard.
- DO re-use the R4-G9 body to give us great new astromech paint schemes!

See?  It's not hard!  You're almost there!

Title: Re: Carded Wedge, finally!

Much improved indeed...  Dutch is a pretty decent sculpt, short of some better arm articulation, so that's a much better figure.  I think it's a little tall, but just about anything was an improvement over that asinine POTF2 figure.

I almost thought they'd do the Biggs Body with the separate collar, the POTF2 arms/legs, and the Cinema Scene head for a Snowspeeder Wedge...  Almost thought that would've been the final fig.

I'm not sure the Dutch is a substantial improvement over the 3-pack figure...  They have their own positives and negatives when comparing the two, but this is easily a better figure than what was thought was coming to us.

Post by: Brian on July 22, 2005, 09:01 AM
Ok, now I'm interested again.  If this is indeed the final figure, it is much more appealing than the POTF2 offering.  I really want to have a Wedge in my collection, and if we're not getting an all new sculpt, this is probably the next best thing.  Strange that they sort of confirmed the POTF2 version at the Q and A, and now we see this pic.  Plus, SWShop still has the older figure pictured.  Anyways, definitely some positive news, Hasbro did what many have suggested.  This looks like a much better representation of Wedge...now I've got to order one ;).

Yeah, exclusives are not only a means of appeasing retail, they're also a means of getting the "odd" out to the public.  Some of the reasoning as to what's odd or not eludes me (I would think a Wedge figure would be as popular as Gold Leader, if not moreso, but whatever), but at least a "new" wedge comes of it.

That price stings though...  I am at a loss why Wedge isn't a figure Hasbro wants at retail though.
Title: Re: Carded Wedge, finally!
Post by: Darby on July 23, 2005, 05:49 AM
Yeah, what Hasbro has against Wedge being a regular, carded figure is inexplicable.  I think it's safe to say retail isn't sore on him the way it was Tatooine Luke at one point.  I'm not buying this, because I know Hasbro will go back to him, again, as soon as they come with another pilot body to kit bash him from.   ::)

At least you can order Wedge from home. So, in that aspect I could see it being better.  With Target you have to first find a DCPI number, 2nd a willing employee to go in the back to get it for you, 3rd the store has to physically have it, 4th the employee can actually locate the box it is in.

Or stand in line an hour before the store opens, get a ticket, and hope they have it there for you :)

Wedge has shown up on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Saga-Collection-2005-Wedge-MOC-Exclusive_W0QQitemZ6002670580QQcategoryZ93842QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)!  It seem strange that the card appears to be done in the style of the Original Trilogy Collection with its squared bubble, rather than the expected The Saga Collection that would have a more rounded shape, as shown here (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/San_Diego_Comic_Con_2005/Hasbro/Hasbro_Q_and_A&image=DSC08903.jpg&img=&tt=).

Why is the falcon the background image for the card?
Its almost the same as the General Lando and regular Han both of those have the falcon as the cardback background.
I thought they could do the rebel hanger bay or something!!!! >:( >:( >:(

I'm kinda on the fence as to whether or not I want this figure... as an opener, I already made this figure by customizing a Dutch Vander.  Just removed his head and added the Wedge head.  I suppose my helmet on mine isn't accurate though.

ditto!  And, I'm still glad that this figure got changed from that original plan of just re-releasing the first PotF2 Wedge.

I'd love to see a 2006 Internet Figure for Biggs using the same set-up - Dutch Vandar Body w/Biggs head and removable helmet!   :)

I think it would be nice if this was part of a wide scale release in the upcomming SAGA line instead.  You could have two variations - one as Biggs and one as Wedge.

I just wish it was released at retail instead of this stupid $14.99 price tag or whatever the hell they are charging for it.  Yeah, why the Falcon in the background?  That makes no sense at all.  LOL!  I mean really.

It makes more sense then packaging him with a Felucia cardback.  :P

Yeah, this is just a head scratcher... one, they can't do right by Wedge, and two, like Chewie said, this should have been included in next year's regular retail line.

I'm looking forward to this figure, and it will actually be my first Wedge in the collection.  I agree though, I don't see why this couldn't have been a mass release figure next year.  I mean, we can get Jek Porkins and Dutch Vander as mass release figures, and Wedge is an internet exclusive?  Oh well, at least we're getting a new (better) version.  I just think Wedge would be well known enough to warrant a retail/mass release figure.

Hasbro knows that tons of people have been screaming for a carded wedge for years now - so they'll go ahead and take advantage.

Anyone have any idea if it's going to show up in stock again? Also when is it supposed to ship?

He is scheduled to ship in Late November / Early December.

He is still in stock at New Force (http://newforcecomics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NFCC&Product_Code=SW-INTWEDGE&Category_Code=SWP3C) for $9.99 plus shipping.

If you want to spend $2 more, he is in stock at Action Figure Express (http://www.shopafx.com/stwaweanacfi.html) for $11.99 plus shipping.

Or, if you want to waste even more cash, he is still in stock at EntertainmentEarth.com (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS87058) for $12.99 plus shipping.

I've chosen the EE path.

I's like to know why SWS has closed orders and put a cap on an open-order exclusive. ******* morons.

Well, theSWShop.com Wedge is coming with a Star Case and that exclusive Topps Wedge card so maybe they ran out of the Topps card and thus had to stop taking orders all together until they are sure they can get more cards from Topps?

Here is the OLD mock-up photo that we saw earlier this fall:

And here are some updated carded Wedge shots (from EE):

Wow!  What a difference!  So many improvements to be noted:
- insert photo is X-Wing Wedge, not snowspeeder Wedge!
- card photo of X-Wing in the background!
- posed with Helmet off and new bubble tray (mock-up used the Dutch Vadndar tray)
- classic OTC card layout/design

I'm REALLY glad that this has changed so much from the first photos that popped up.  the idea of getting a carded PotF2 rehash Wedge carded sucked hard, but this new final version rocks!

This is a PRIME example of how Hasbro can listen to fans and make some changes on the fly to give us a much improved product!  :)

Nope that would make sense!

No chin strap on the new one

I think there was some confusion on that one thanks to the mock-up carded photo, which appears to have used the Dutch Vandar helmet (and maybe even the Dutch figure if you look close at the old photo).   :-\

I don't think they ever really planned for Wedge to use that new Dutch Helmet since it only ever showed up on the mock-up carded photo.

The Dutch helmet should be the standard from now on when it comes to Rebel pilots.  Repaint and be done with it.  But this is Hasbro we're talking about, so common sense doesn't apply.

I totally agree. However, the loose photo is the same as shown before, no?
The helmet in the bubble is turned so you can't see the front, so I'm still holding out hope that it could be a Dutch Vander Helmet (unless someone could prove by the photo that it's not.)
Title: Re: Carded Wedge, finally!
Post by: Jesse James on November 5, 2005, 01:22 AM
To Hasbro's defense on the helmet, the helmets are often made to fit the head more than heads made to fit the helmets, which is odd but it is how they seem to be done.  Dutch's helmet may have been an awkward fit on Wedge's noggin.  The problem could be minor, it could fit perfectly (I don't have my figs handy to check), or it could be major and not fit at all.  I've noticed that Dutch's helmet doesn't fit a whole lot of my "fodder" heads from other lines too well...  Some the strap is too loose on them and on others the helmet just won't fit on the head.  It's weird.

Sigh... I kind of want this now.  Why oh why is this an exclusive?  And in last year's packaging?  And why am I broke, is the more important question.

To bad they won't lower the price another $5 or so.  Then I'd probably buy it.  It should be in the regular releases anyway.  Especially if they are going to put Riekaan on a card.  Sigh.

The East Coast shipping kills me.  Wont be seeing mine til next Wednesday :P  The cardback looks really nice .  Will look nicely next to the Comicon Leia and SWShop Holo  Emperor.  Just wish the new SAGA series continued with these exact cardbacks.

It's a kitbash but one I'm pretty happy to get.  I think he'll be a little tall though from what I can think of Dutch's sculpt.

Yeah, I think the Vandar sculpt works for Vandar as he is a pretty big guy. I ghope they don't use this body for all subsequent X-Wing pilots.

It's available cheaper (US$8.99) at Razor's Edge Collectibles (http://www.razorsedgecollectibles.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=420).  I got mine from Mike there (of course, before he put the damn thing on sale!) and service, communication, and shipping was excellent.  Only down side is it did not come in a star case.

Shipping across US (NY to WA) via USPS Priority Mail was US$7.49.  Shipment to the Great White North may vary.

Mike sells on eBay under a store called  A&R Computer World and claims to be a Hasbro dealer.  I first heard about him on Yodasnews.com, he seems to have an advertising relationship with them.

I know how you feel.  I jumped on them when they were $13.99 each + 7.49 shipping (for 2 figures).

I just checked his eBay store and they are still $13.99, but shipping USPS Priority mail to the lower 48 is FREE, so this might beat his $8.99 website special if you buy in quantity.   93 left.

Got my Wedges (24) from New Force last night.   ;D

I really like this figure.  To me, this is what re-hashes should be.  They could pop a new head/helmet on this body and grind out X-Wing Pilots until the cows come home - Biggs, Red 4, Red Leader, Hobbie, Janson, etc etc.  Granted, he's a bit tall compared to the rest of the pilots, but if they gave us more it'd be the old ones that looked out of place.

Sure $10 is a lot for a basic figure, but at least he was only $10 shipped from NewForce and not $14 plus shipping from some of those other places.  It's times like this that the local collecting group really pays off!   ;)

Yeah, this is a much cooler exclusive Jeff...  I don't care for the height, but I wholely expect a new fighter pilot sculpt at some point that's probably gonna be shorter.  Then I'm all for random head/helmet figures coming out using that body as the base.  Cover EU too, sounds good to me to get some Rogues, ya know?

I'd agree, however it's Luke if I'm not mistaken, or it's rumored to be him anyway isn't it?  And that will negate it being my personal standard due to Hammi's short stature.  I'd prefer the taller Gold Leader sculpt actually than a real short and skinny Luke body...  The in-between, "average" sculpt is a necessity...  However I think lower legs from Dutch and perhaps the hands/forearms from a SA Luke could be reused on new thights/bicep/shoulder sculpts and a new torso...

I'mr eally all for Hasbro re-using parts anywhere and everywhere.  Why tool molds for the XW Pilot gloves when you have the POTJ Imp Officer's gloves, ya know?  Or even Evolutions Maul's gloves would do I think, they're the exact same thing really.

Hasbro has to get innovative with how they look at their toys...  For a company so incredibly thrifty with cost cutting, they don't think outside the box sometimes it seems.

Got mine today... I could have sworn EE was suppose to include a Star Case for this guy.... $12.99 plus shipping for a basic carded figure is crap.  Of course, it's just one in the long line of $12.99 basic figures thrown at us via Target...  Talk about exploiting the message board chatter that people wanted a carded wedge figure into a chance to make some extra money.

Oh well, it's better than most of them.
