Looks like 3.75" figures are back in the game when it comes to SDCC exclusives (I honestly had been hoping it would perpetually stay at 6" figures since I don't collect those)...
Hasbro has announced via io9 that the Dr. Aphra 3-pack will be this year's SDCC exclusive:

Since you can pretty much build 0-0-0 at the Disney Droid Factory, and the Dr. Aphra figure will be in the Vintage line individually, the real draw for this set is BT-1 (for me at least).

Is 0-0-0 a TVC 06 repaint version? I'm guessing it is since the eye holes don't line up.

I really hope Hasbro plans on making a ton of these for HTS... I hate chasing down and overpaying for exclusives.

Good eye! It definitely looks like 0-0-0 is a repaint of the TVC 06 C-3PO.

Same here. Before they stopped doing them, the 3.75" exclusives were getting harder and harder to get. I was glad when they switched to 6" since I didn't need to care anymore. :P

Yeah, same here. If they bring back the Kenner Vintage stuff and then don't make enough for everyone who wants one its just going to invariably piss the masses off even more...

Don't count on it. Aphra is popular enough to win the fan's choice poll - so while us ORIGINAL FANS have no idea what her deal is, all the poseur noobs seem to love her. :-*

Do we know if she will also be made available in a regularly available assortment, and if all of these figures will be available as well? Just curious if we know if this is just a packaging variation or if this is all only going to be available via SDCC.

Yes, she won the fans choice poll. She'll be a regular Vintage carded release.

Correct it’s the only way to get the droids and I don’t think there are any BAD parts that come close to even 0-0-0’s colors and things. I have the Black 3po from the park and it looks really nothing like that. Clearly the astromech is equally impossible at the park too.
Given recent years, I have no hope for this being “easy to get” by Hasbro toy shop or otherwise. It’s really gonna be a pain and I’m afraid this one will cost a pretty penny for a while and not really come down to sanity like the 6” Exclusive stuff.

This is a pretty cool offering for a Comic Con exclusive. I get why they would make this the SDCC 2018 exclusive. After all this is the year that they relaunched the Vintage Collection, so why not celebrate the Vintage Collection? And calling it a comic pack ties into the name of Comic Con. I know there are a lot of people that would like Comic Con to get back to its roots, and this at least plays to that sentiment.
I think that I had mentioned a while back that I'd like to see these droids offered up alongside Dr. Aphra. I don't know that they would have been great offerings for the general release line because of the somewhat narrower audience that the comics have. But they are some cool droids!

When I was at Disney I built an all black Threepio that was inspired by 0-0-0. But it's significantly different from what's being offered in this set. And I'm totally cool with that, because now the black Threepio I built can be an Imperial or First Order droid.

I don't read the Aphra comic any more, but did for awhile and liked these characters from their time there and in the Vader comic. I'd like to get a set of these, but like everyone else I'm not super hopeful. The vinty packaging is nice though. It is nice to see the 3 3/4" line get some attention again.

There can't really be surprise or sticker-shock, can it? It breaks down to $17 a figure. The standard release Vintage figures are $13 each. These are the Comic Con Exclusives, so you had to figure they would individually price out at higher than that.
Don't get me wrong--it's a high price, but not unexpectedly high.

But at $40 they break down to $13.33 each. Hasbro would tell you that limited-edition figures cost more to make, so they have to cost more to buy. You know, the smaller the edition, the higher the cost.
The problem is these types of figures cost $13 to start, which is already asking a lot...

I was thinking the same thing. I know it would be against type, but wouldn't it be wonderful if Hasbro allowed folks to just pre-order one or two and NOT have to score one on the after market?

They'd certainly make more money that way... although it defeats the Exclusive label.

It would save me from having to camp out preview night so I can get a ticket to stand in line the next day. It's crazy.

Got this set from Hasbro today - Aphra is great and all, but for me the star of this set is the BT-1 droid. I love the crazy guns sticking out of his head - well executed. Love that he's got the wires on his feet too (miss those on the Disney BAD sculpt). I'll try to get some loose pictures up sometime this weekend...

I was in Chicago for 4 days on a mini vacation. My flight out of there on Monday kept getting delayed due to LaGuardia being shut down for weather (plane arriving from there was a few hours late)

I got my HTS order yesterday. I like the Aphra figure and the Astromech in this set, but I've never cared for the C-3PO figure that they turned into 0-0-0 for this set. I feel like my all black protocol droid from the Droid Factory at Disney World is a much better candidate for that figure.
I know I've said it before, but I still do not understand why there isn't better synergy between Hasbro and Disney for what they do with droids, especially when it come to Astromechs and Protocol droids. They could have offered this set at SDCC and then individually carded BT-1 and 0-0-0 on Droid Factory cardbacks and sold them in the parks, since the Droid Factory packaging is identical to vintage as far as card size and bubble position, that would make a suitable alternative to having them in the Vintage line if Hasbro is not inclined to do so.

I got mine the other day and opened it up... anyone else have a problem with that protocol droid? Either his back panel pops off or his face does and I can't get them to stay on without a little sticky tack or something like that.

Same problem the C-3PO he's based off of had. It's disappointing when there's better protocol droids out there but they went the cheap route.

Long shot I know, but is anyone interested in just the girl and the protocol droid and not the astro droid? I was ready to buy the set, but I just can't bring myself to spend almost $60 for just the astro droid. If someone's willing to split the set with me, I'll buy it and we'll figure out the details.

There are sellers on ebay that are busting up this set and selling the figures individually. If you don't get any takers here you can probably get what you're looking for on ebay for $25.

I can’t leave anything in the package, takes up too much space.
As someone who has a couple of complete carded lines....I can attest to that! My wife weeps a little at how much storage space is taken up by my carded collection.
I do have a few unopened items on display in my room...this SDCC set will be one of them. (I also got an opener....best of both worlds baby!)

I used to buy two of everything when they were $5 a piece. I had walls covered with carded figures. Around 2006 or 2007 I found a buyer who took them all for $5 each, $10 for deluxe. He bought my 12" figures, unleashed... everything that was peripheral. I basically broke even, and saved myself a fortune in not buying 2x and random lines going forward. Best thing I ever did. This guy was buying them all over the course of a few months, his budget was about $500 a month and him and his girlfriend came over twice a month for over a year. I ended up with nearly $7000
I ran into the guy that bought them all maybe a year later? He'd broken up with his girlfriend and they'd sold it all at a loss. I felt bad for him but I also felt lucky to be able to extract face value out of all that stuff.

I hear ya....I definitely do not buy two of everything anymore (hell...I barely buy one of anything as it is!) There are some things (like the Aphra set) that I felt I needed an extra to keep unopened.

It should. I know Aphra won the poll, but I am pretty deep into Star Wars and I'd literally never heard of her. I can't imagine there's going to be mass appeal for her with little kids or adult collectors. Seems to me that she fits into a middling demographic of internet-savy teenagers and 20-somethings who read comic books, but not much beyond that.

I had never heard of her until the poll and even after she won and I learned I would be getting a figure of her, I still didn't care enough to even do some quick google search based research about the character. In fact, with my limited knowledge of the character (based on reading the back of the package from the exclusive) I find the fact she exists quite ridiculous. Is she supposed to be the spitting image of Shmi or Padme or something and that's why Vader didn't just kill her? Cause based on what I read, why did Vader just not force choke her to death during their first meeting? (I'm asking rhetorically, I still honestly DO NOT care)

I have no idea whether she'll sell well or not, but how much do you know about Rom Mohc or Sigel Dare? I'm not really sure what my point is, but I don't think many of the comic characters are that well known. Yet I like when they branch out here and there.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who buy without doing any real research as to price.

Not to mention the TVC speculation has been pretty bullish it seems... it’s a nice set but I wouldn’t have bought early on this if I couldn’t get it at the show or site. It’s neat but I wouldn’t want to have paid more than it’s cost for it. It’s already kinda pricey.

At the end of the day collectors know that they'll be able to get Aphra for $12.99 later. This set is essentially nice packaging and / or $37 extra for a pair of droids.
Most people probably don't care about the droids all that much, so I'm sure there are plenty of people just waiting.

With Aphra coming out on her own card, the only reason I purchased this set was for the droids.

Pretty much the same with Matt... not to say I didn’t want Aphra. She’s a cool figure herself, nicely done, but the droids were my main motivator for this. If I hadn’t had to buy this for them though, I wouldn’t have. I’d rather them single carded or whatever. The droids are neat and the R5 especially is nice but Aphra is the best overall figure in the set and can be had later.
As far as people knowing her or not I think that’s as up in the air as every single other EU character we’ve ever gotten. I’d say she’s got a strong backing and a lot of hate and general disinterest too, but then again I don’t think 35+ y/os are that plentiful in the hobby anymore either, so eh, whatever. I’m not unhappy to own the figures in the set. If it’s a good figure I’m usually pretty content these days.

I read the Darth Vader comic where they originally appeared and liked it. Nice to have the trio.

I love this set, in spite of having no idea who these characters are. It is weird that the set is still available. Perhaps Hasbro is adjusting quantities based on previous years? This might be a good omen for me given that SDCC changed it's professional criteria which has made me no longer eligible for a badge.

Got my set in the mail yesterday. Packaging is a lot cooler than I expected with the foil and such, but I still wish there was a cheaper/better way to get the droids on their own. Watch some 5POA versions in a 2 pack come out with the TVC Aphra.
