Attack on Kashyyyk Battle Pack.

I sure hope that the fifth figure is a Stormtrooper so I can pass on it entirely.

As for the pack, I sure hope that the fifth figure is a Stormtrooper so I can pass on it entirely.
From CashFresh:
ATTACK ON KASHYYYK box set includes:
• Darth Vader
• Stormtrooper
• Stormtrooper
• Wookiee Warrior
• Wookiee Warior
-
I'm sure I would have found that had I bothered to click on the link. :P
-
Ok - so with all of the silliness we've see with Inferno Troopers and the blue Stormtrooper Commander, from the preview shot, why aren't the Stormtroopers featuring jungle cammo armor?
I wonder if the shot is just a mock-up - there doesn't appear to be any difference between the Wookie Warrior and the preview version we got for ROTS. I would hope that they use the repack as an opportunity to paint the figure a different color of fur.
-
I thought the battle of kashyyyk had the 501st clone troopers doing the attack not stormtroopers :-X at least that is the impression i got while reading the Rise of Darth vader,
-

They did...can't you see that one is brown and the other is a little darker brown? Heh.
I really don't need another Vader. The two Stormies would be okay, but not noteworthy enough for me to get. The wooks are okay. I won't be in a rush to get this set. I'll wait for it to clearance and won't lose sleep if I never get it.
-
I'm kinda looking forward to this set. I'm currently working on a Kashyyyk beach diorama, so the Wookiees will be useful for that, and I always love getting more stormtroopers. Vader, meh, I'll find a place for him, that place may be the 'haves section of my trade list. :P So I'll hopefully pick up a few.
Wait.... :o
What am I saying? What happened to only buying what I absolutely NEED this year? This is a battle pack, and I'm saying I want a few! Ughh...I'm doomed. Again. :-\
-
I didn't see a thread for it, surprisingly, so I figured I'd start one since I bought it today...
Pretty nice set really. Both Wookiee's have slightly different fur patterns but it's not very drastic. I would've dug a light and dark colored wookiee since these two's fur comes close to the original figure's fur coloring a bit, but still it's some wookiee variation and that's welcome. Especially since this is the best sculpt IMO.
WOuld've been nice to get a new accurate Bowcaster, but not happening (yet). We do, however, get the Wookiee ammo belt that the smaller ROTS figure came with, but now it's sculpted to fit the BIG Wookiee sculpt. That's cool since most had this on in the film. I hope this means we'll get this sculpt re-released with the ammo belt and new headsculpts. Just some wishful thinking on my part maybe but I'd like some furry diversity.
ALso the two Stormtroopers in the set are VOTC Stormies, so that's pretty slick if you preferred that sculpt to the 30AC Stormtrooper or the Tantive IV Stormtrooper. Mine have some leg warping due to the packaging but it doesn't really impede them much.
The Darth Vader is the Bespin Vader figure with the separate ball/socket knee joint, so customizers will at least enjoy that since those knees are sort of "in demand", especially if you want to give kneeless Rep. Commando's some articulation. Otherwise it's just another Vader wasting a spot in an otherwise great set.
STill, the price of 4 army builders and a random crap figure is cheaper than 3 basic figures. You can't beat that.
Also saw loads of Aayla Secura fighters, and no desire to buy them.
-
Good to know this is out! I'm really looking forward to picking up a few of these.
-
IMO it's pretty weak sauce. And actually, it's even weaker sauce than I was predicting insofar as they didn't even bother to camo-paint the stormies or repaint the Wookiees.
Still, little kids will eat it up and when you think of it as cheaper than three basic figures, it isn't so bad. Although at the same time, that's depressing in a whole other way. :-\
-
Awesome, finally some confirmation that those are VOTC Stormies. I suspected they were by the pics, but wanted some first hand verification. Now I'm definitely picking up one of these.
-
Guess I didn't look hard enough and there was a thread for this... ::) Thanks Jeff.
And actually, it's even weaker sauce than I was predicting insofar as they didn't even bother to camo-paint the stormies or repaint the Wookiees.
So wait...
You wanted them to repaint the Stormtroopers? :o You could get shot for saying that around here. ;)
Actually the Wookiees are repainted, or at least one is... One has a strip down the center of his head sort of... Definitely different, but it's a fairly slight difference. it's not like a black wookiee with white stripes, or a cream one... One may be pretty similar to the preview figure, I'm not sure really and haven't compared it closely. They're both seemingly unique paintjobs to the preview figure though, and the one noticeably so upon inspection. They also are different than each other... And the belts are nice additions as they're new gear that was needed.
For me, $20 for 4 army builders is a good day... Another doorstop Vader, well that sucks, but still I thought it was a decent value for folks wanting Stormtroopers and Wookiees... I'd fall into that category though so I'm biased.
-
So wait...
You wanted them to repaint the Stormtroopers? :o You could get shot for saying that around here. ;)
True enough. ;D
It's not a matter of "want" ... I've no stake in this since I wouldn't have bought it either way. :P I merely extrapolate from Hasbro's past behavior and the fact they've slapped the hideous camo on every other variant of clonetrooper and even battledroids and vehicles ... in that light it makes a twisted kind of sense. :-\
-
Very twisted... :(
Actually I'd probably have been a bit bummed out by that... Part of the coolness of the set for me is two super articulated clean decoes of the original VOTC Stormtrooper... That was a selling point. I know what you're saying though, but with Stormtroopers I really am hoping the whole skittles thing is reigned in a little bit.
I'm all for some new headsculpts and vastly different paintjobs for this Wookiee sculpt though. I'd dig that a lot.
-
Okay, with the Wookies being different from previous ones, I might be good for one opener purchase.
-
When I saw pics of this I thought what a waste but when I actually got my hands on it I was impressed. The two fat wookies together really looks cool. And to have them battling Stormtroopers instead of Clone Troopers tops it off.
-
Can you really picture Vader actually walking around a jungle/forest though? That part just seems kinda silly.
-

Somewhere there's a really cool concept art of Vader leading troops into battle from TFU... I don't think it's too far-fetched to see a younger Vader on the front lines. But, I do see your point.
-
He trotted through the snow on Hoth... Maybe this was an assault to see who let Yoda loose?
-
^Ditto Chewie and Jesse. That aspect is the least of my problems with the set.
-
My problem with this set is that Hasbro has never gotten the helmet of the stormtrooper anything close to good. Yeah, some of them from certain angles look okay, sometimes. But the VOTC helmet is not very good.
Hasbro, this is what a stormtrooper helmet looks like:

This is what it doesn't look like:

Fix the ******* thing.
-
^Ditto Chewie and Jesse. That aspect is the least of my problems with the set.
It's a problem for a carded/boxed collector. Dare I say it looks like a kiddy pack? Just my opinion, but I'm passing on this set only because of the Vader included in it - plus I already own 162 other Vaders. :)

Ah, I open everything. Somehow I only have 161 Vaders. :P

I'm not sure what carded-vs-opening has to do with the price of tea in China ... I was discussing the in-universe storytelling aspect (Vader personally leading troops through the jungle) more than the toy itself.
I do see what you mean insofar as the opener can remove Vader from the jungle setting packaging to use in other scene setups, but that sort of nullifies the point I was getting at, which is that Vader (particularly this younger iteration) has shown on other occasions that he doesn't have a problem getting down in the trenches when a mission calls for it.
-
Not going to argue with someone over a toy. Never have, never will. Hope to see you this weekend if you can make it. ;)
-
No worries, I'm not taking it personally. :P
*shakes fist impotently while secretly plotting to drop all of Mike's boxes into puddles this Saturday* :o ;)

There are no puddles within my wharehouse. Mhaahahahha! ;D Take it easy bro ;) I'm buyin!
-
I'm in it for the Wookiees. :D I like the new paint and the use of those bandoleers. I still want new Wookiee sculpts though. Merumeru and a proper Tarfful for starters.
-
Do these Stormtroopers use that same mold that the Tantive IV BP Stormies used? I'll probably get one if that's the case.
-

They are the VOTC Stormie mold.
-
Can you really picture Vader actually walking around a jungle/forest though? That part just seems kinda silly.
I always pictured Vader walking everywhere and anywhere ever since Obi-wan told Luke that Vader helped to hunt down the Jedi.
-
Some interesting stuff on the Stormtrooper...
THe body overall is the VOTC, but the legs have date stamps of 2005 on them for whatever reason. Anyway, found that interesting. Cool figure nonetheless, but it is the VOTC sculpt as near as I can tell.
-
I am buying this set for the wookiees. but the stormtroopers (are not the tantive IV versions) is an extra bonus with VOTC Vader.
-

Can someone remind me what the differences between the VOTC and Tantive IV Stormtroopers are? Do they have the same articulation?
-
The Capture on the Tantive IV Stormtrooper is the Evolutions "Sandtrooper" just with a clean deco Jess... No backpacks or big ass gun either, just a regular blaster. He has the "Sandtrooper Belt' with the ammo packs on it, and no waist articulation.
And the VOTC Stormtrooper is the super articulated figure of course with the ball/socket torso/waist, and the stormtrooper holster.
-

Aren't they supposed to have the 2005 date stamp? That's the year the VOTC came out.
-
VOTC was 2004.
-
Picked this up at Target last night using DPCI trick... I actually really like this set.
-
I'm gonna try to pick up a couple of these. Maybe even a third if I can find one on clearance.
-

Thanks JJ - I don't know why I can't keep that straight.
-
VOTC was 2004.
Right.
Here's the deal, (I pulled out the various variants) the '04 VOTC has an '04 date stamp on the foot, while the Saga Sandtrooper has an '05 date stamp on the leg. So one would assume the Santrooper legs are in standard use now since they're in the Kashyyyk pack, the Mouse/Brasso pack and on use on the TAC trooper. The Evo Storm/Sandtrooper have an '05 stamp on the foot.
-
This is a complete pass for me even on clearance.
-
The local Target had an entire endcap crammed full of these, the Aayla JSF, and both GH sets this morning. To put it simply, I wasn't impressed with this set enough to get it on clearance, much less at full price. The Wookiees looked nice, but they didn't impress me enough to spend 20 bucks on the set.
I do think that this would have been a much easier purchase for a lot of people if the Vader had been dropped in favor of, say, a resculpted Tarfful, that blue Stormtrooper Commander, or another plain white Stormtrooper. Then again, that would require a set to go out without a Darth Vader in it, and such an event would result in the sun imploding. ::)
-

LOL! ;D Very funny!
You have a great point, this set would have been much better if it had been a kit-bashed Tarfful combined with the ROTS preview Wookie and then three of those Stormtrooper "Commanders". There was really no need for a Vader in this set. We're already getting a Vader as part of the TFU figure wave.
-
There's not need for a Vader for us, but I can see why Hasbro tries to cram a Vader in every chance they get.
-
Ok sup with the "jucied" up Wookies? They have the same trainer as Barry Bonds and Rodger Clemens? ;D FYI I passed on this without a 2nd look...sorry Hasbro!
-
I picked up two of these sets today. Decent army building potential, and I love me some huge Wookiees. Cannot wait to use the cheat codes when I play the game this afterno... oh, I can't because the game isn't even out yet.
-
I really like the Wookiees in this set. I've always thought that the ROTS preview Wookiee Warrior was a superior figure. And now to have the more common bandolier and different paintjobs helps differentiate these Wookiees from all of the previous versions. I would however like to see perhaps another headsculpt without the dreads at some point.
As for Vader and the Stormtroopers? It's another high quality Vader that I can use for the dioramas that I have planned. And the Stormtroopers are a nice add-on. There's nothing ground-breaking with those.
-
I bought the set yesterday for the Wookiees. I'm a sucker for Wook variations, even so slight as these.
But why the hell are they still using that worthless gummy plastic on the stormtroopers? ??? Anyone else get exceedingly warped legs on theirs? Mine look absolutely crippled.
As for Vader, I have no memory at all that VOTC Vader had no ankle joints. ??? Mine's packed right now in preparation for a move, but I would've sworn he had ball-jointed ankles....
-
I saw these today, and while you can't deny the value or army building goodness, I passed. The Wookies aren't different enough, and I thought the paintjobs on the Stormies were so-so. Plus, it's $20 I'd rather spend on a Cubs ticket.
-
Is there a street date or something on these? 'Cause I've seen no hide nor hair.
-
Is there a street date or something on these? 'Cause I've seen no hide nor hair.
Not sure, but 03/23 is the date for Target's next reset. I'd try the DPCI trick if you're ansy.
087-06-2004
-

Yeah dude those 2 wookiees worked 'em over pretty good inside that box.
-
There is a street date I read somewhere on them, but I can't recall what it is now... They're not out here except at a brand new Target that opened near me Anton, so I'm guessing that store's stock is just a fluke and they're supposed to be held onto.
They've gone through all but about 5 Kashyyyk packs and all the Aayla fighters at that store by the way.
Battlepacks are also on sale for like $2 off this week but it doesn't include the Kashyyyk pack of course.
-
Just wanted to point out there is a huge difference between a "street date" and the day a Target "planogram" is supposed to set. A 3/23 Target date just means the endcap has to be up by then not that it can't go up before then. A street date means you can't put in out before then and if you do you could get penalized by the company who produces it.
-
That's true... The "date" on these wasn't listed as a street date I suppose. I can't recall what I read about it specifically but there'd be no reason for that and it's likely just a reset date, but for whatever reason some of them are going out... Could be the ones I saw had their toy shelves set up for the future reset since it's a brand new store. No sense setting up only to reset in like 2 weeks.
-
I found this today. My local Target had the endcap of exclusive stuff set up. I bought one of these. The wookiees are definately cool.
-
Can someone post pics of the genera release wookies and the ones from the set to see the differences. I am not sure if i want to pick the set up/
-
Here's one I whipped up quick just now...
RotS Preview, RotS Repaint, and then the 2x TFU Battle Pack wookiees.
They are all definitely different colors (dark brown, tan, red-brown, orange-brown) with different fur deco patterns and the BP ones have the new bandoliers.
-
I like the AOK one with the lighter brown and higher contrast between his fur and dark highlights. His eyes look open, more visible than the other and the ROTS SP. He looks like he's really in a rage. The wash on the face gives great detail too. They didn't paint the finger nails on either of the AOKs though.
Actually, the fingers and nails were painted on the ROTS Sneak Preview ones. Not sure about the fingers on the heavy gunner, but the nails are painted. Neither the fingers or nails on the AOK are painted.
-
Thanks for the "street Date" info and the pictures guys. Ironically, (as always) it looked like one of my Targets was getting ready to set an end cap yesterday. Crossing my fingers it's for SW.
-
This is an excellent BP, worth buying indeed. I already bought two and I am thinking of a third one. I only wish they gave the Wookies the preview rifle, those missile firing bowcasters suck. I plan on doing some interchanging of parts/gear between my extras of the older ones to make them different naturally.
FYI - My 4 Stormies legs are all warped too.

Thanks for the pic. I am still torn but after seeing the comparison i am leaning more towards buying the set.

Hmmm... my one set has good legs on the Stormies. Hearing that some are warped has be a bit nervous about buying more.

The longer they sit, the chance of warpage grows exponentially. You better buy them all now at full price. ;)
-

Ditto! Now I definitely need this set to add the Wookiees to my display. Plus I won't complain about having 2 more SA Stormtroopers. And I've been known to buy a Vader or two in the past.
-
The warped issue... is that different from the one leg shorter than the other issue? If so, explain, I haven't heard that one.
-

think they mean the legs might be "curved" to one side or another depending how they're packaged/posed/strapped with the clear bands in the plastic. My Octo Droid has some warpage in his legs but nothing some hot water can't fix.
-
THe body overall is the VOTC, but the legs have date stamps of 2005 on them for whatever reason. Anyway, found that interesting.
Today I was re-arranging the Stormtroopers on my shelves and I noticed that at some point, Hasbro changed the placement of the peg-holes on the feet of the vOTC Stormtrooper sculpt. On the original 2004 vOTC version, the peg holes are in the back of the foot and a 2004 date stamp is on the other part of the foot.
Everything that uses the sculpt after that though (Shadow, SDCC 501st, TSC Sandie, 30AC, Comic Packs) has the peg hole in the center of the foot and a 2005 date stamp on the back of the leg. On some of the newer figures, you can still see a hex-shape at the back of the foot that shows where they filled in the old peg hole.
So there you go. ;)
-
No sign of this set today.
-
Good catch Jeff. Can't wait to get my stuff back up on display so I can figure stuff like that out easier. :P
-
Saw an endcap of these yesterday, with the Target exclu GH's, look pretty cool and will probably snatch up a couple later. Don't remember which Vader it was though. I guess we're lucky we didn't get Stormies painted ala the Kashyyyk AT-?? drivers from last X-mas Target battlepack.
Though it have made more sense for them to have been Scouts instead of Stormies I guess it's something from the game and we'll just wait and see.
-
Real lucky on the STormie repaints, at least to me... One more bastardization of the OT avoided.
Plus I'm not disappointed in not getting scouts, though we really haven't gotten Scouts in a battlepack (I'd love more with movable visors). The battle, I'm guessing, is a full fledged thing in the game invading the planet setting up the old EU of WOokiee's = enslaved and their planet under Martial Law by the Empire...
For that, I love the set. 2 good Stormtroopers and 2 good Wookiee Warriors. That's not a bad thing for what it is. I think if they'd made it more different with repainting Stormtroopers trying to get impulse variation buying going, I'd be disappointed honestly.
-
I'm really glad the stormies weren't repainted, I think that's just a super lame way to get army-builders' money, and not nearly as cool as the new divisions (Evotroopers and Jumptroopers). I wouldn't have minded seeing scouts in place of the stormies, either way would've been just as effective as the other in making the set as cool as it is IMO.
I'm gonna go looking for this set today, I haven't made it to Target recently.
-
It would've been interesting seeing a mix trooper ala the Hoth speeder bike trooper, being a mix of scout and snowtrooper armor, instead a mix of stormie and scout. Hmmmm I feel a custom coming on ;D
-
Our local Target had these (and the other exclusives) on an endcap since last Wednesday, and all of the exclusives seem to be selling pretty quickly (the GH sets in particular). I just about picked one of these up the other day, and told myself if there was any left this week I probably would. Its not like there isn't anything in there we/I don't already have, but I wouldn't mind having a couple more of those VOTC sculpt Stormtroopers, as well as the Wookiee Warriors. As far as an army building battle pack goes, its probably a pretty good deal - and they actually used good versions of both.
-
I went to 3 Targets on Saturday night (8-ish) and only one had exclusives out-- and that one had already sold out of the Kashyyyk sets. This morning I hit 2 more, one of them had everything and one had nothing. Only 4 of this set left (now 2), but I gotta say it's pretty amazing for $20, given we paid $10 per Vader and Stormtrooper and about $5-$7 for the Wookiees as preview figures.
Did anybody else notice the retooled Stormtrooper arms? Like most non-VOTC VOTC-based Stormtrooper figures, these have the "R" and "L" molded into the shoulders. I dig the whiter-white plastic, except for (I think) the torsos.
How many generic Wookiees does this bring us up to now? Like 7 uniques? I really like these guys. I need to compare them to my Wookiees at home but it looks like the paint used for the mouth and teeth is much cleaner and sharper than before, they really do look nice. (Although I really would have liked to seen a unique staff, hat, helmet, or some other obviously "new" element.)
Cannot freaking WAIT for the crazy striped Rancor next month.

You forgot the Wookiee from the RPG set too Jayson. I'd sorta consider him... sorta. He was very much a stand-alone figure.
-

Yeah, I did space that one. I was trying to only count Kashyyyk battle Wookiees, hence the omission of Yarua.
-
Ah, ok gotcha on that then... I'll probably include him (Rowowrrowworwoworwowowrowowrowowrowr, that is), in with my Kashyyyk Wookiee's so he has a home. He's really just not fitting in anywhere else on my shelves at this point. Had him in the Cantina with a modified blaster I made him, but he's a little akward.
-

I love that figure. He's hanging out with some questionable looking Rodians in my Outlander Club diorama.
-
I put Rorworr up with my wookie collection and he looks a little out of place. He's so much smaller than the rest. I know he's supposed to be a teenager but holy crap!
I think I'll put my Yarua figure up there as well. As soon as I find the bin that figure's in.
-
Picked this set up today with the Order 66 sets.
-
If anyone is buying multiples of this one for the Stormies and wants to sell a pair of Wookiees let me know.
-
I still don't like this pack, but I've been getting tempted on buying it simply because I can't find anything new. :-\

I caved and bought it yesterday. It's pretty much a guarantee that these will hit clearance so I'm saving my receipt. ;)
-
Just wondering... is it a good thing that some collectors go back with their receipt later and want a refund from the original price? If too many people do that, won't Target end up thinking that it's not worth their while to even carry exclusives, because it shows up as them selling only when on clearance?
Not trying to single you out iFett - I just know that a lot of people do this, and your post persuaded me to bring this up.
-
They offer refunds on clearance prices?
I thought it was only sale prices...

I always use the Target coupon. I can always find something else to purchase enough product to meet $25. It was a bit messy however trying to work out my 3 order forms for the Hasbro Play Rewards. Damned subtraction!
Probably saved about $80-$100 using it so far. :)
...oh and I still don't like this BP btw. :-X

Just a side note, but I don't know if anyone was watching the prequels on Spike TV this weekend - but I noticed yesterday, between AOTC and ROTS, they had a preview/announcement on the Force Unleashed. They showed footage and talked about how you can play as Darth Vader for the first level of the game, and showed Vader on Kashyyyk force choking wookiees - likely where this pack is originated from. That might be old news to some, but I just thought I'd pass it along.
-
Seems like a new scene to me. A lot of talk about this pack has been speculation about a scene on Kashyyyk.
-
Yeah the first level you play as Darth Vader, according to yesterday's somewhat short preview... You play as him till you find your apprentice I guess, then it shifts over. I figured right away that's why the pack was made then. Makes sense now, and too bad the pack couldn't have waited till the game's release.
-
Also too bad the Wookiees aren't a bit different than they are... imagine how awesome it would have been to get an all new Wookiee or two in this set.

I caught the preview as well, so that makes this set less sucky.
-
I think game delay really has skewed people's perception of the toys. Vader does seem more appropriate for this set now.
-
This is why the video game should come before the toys.
Crazy thought, huh?
-
Well none of it is Hasbro's fault, from what I can tell. I just can't believe how far the game got pushed back from the original launch date... hopefully it will be worth the wait... and I'd love to see a surprise tie in with more TFU figures being released around that time, though I don't know how Hasbro would feel about making more to conincide with the release.

I desperately want all-new, posable sculpts of Tarfful and Merumeru.

These have been kind of scarce around here. How are they selling in your neck of the woods?

I've only seen them twice then they were gone. I didn't buy one. Though I wasn't planning on it either. If I find them back out and at clearance price, I'll buy several for the troopers and custom paint the Wookiees. (I'll just be stuck with yet more Vaders)

It is funny I have serveral Targets around me that I hit every week and some are sold out and others are collecting dust.
-
I just picked this set up on clearance for $13.98. It was the last one at the Target I was at. It's not a bad set, though I am glad I got it for less as I really don't need another Vader and I don't amry build too much. That store also had a couple Order 66 packs for $6.98, so I got a Luminara set.
-
Wow, clearance already? Usually Target's pretty level with clearances too... They gotta be getting those O66 sets for a song to dump them that fast.
-
Yeah, I was surprised to find them clearanced so soon too. This Target is in the process of resetting the entire back left of their store so the toys are where hardware used to be and vice versa.
Here'e a pic of my clearance haul today with receipt sans a couple items I got for other people. The BP isn't marked, but rang up $13.98.

It's about time Target clearanced these things out. ::)

Gawd, they just started hitting a couple of weeks ago...
-
I went back today (Tacoma, WA Target) and they had almost a full endcap's worth of Star Wars merch (GH sets, Aayla's fighter, Kashyyyk BP) in the clearance aisle for $13.98 each. I moved the last Order 66 set (Luminara) to be with the rest of the clearance Star Wars stuff. They took down that endcap almost a month ago too. Weird.
-
I'm glad I waited to purchase this pack, 5 figures for the cost of 2 is well worth it. Plus, VOTC Stormies!

Thank god they were such sticklers to that release date and all, huh? ;) This is simply weirdness to me... It was like pulling teeth near me to get help on them, and then for them to clearance fast, it's just odd.
The Kashyyyk packs are backed up here so I may go huntin' tomorrow for 2 extra sets. Love extra wookiees.
-
After all this time I finally opened up this set. I was surprised to see that the stormies were straight Votc repacks.
-
I bought 3 sets on clearance at $26 after the coupon. Not bad for 6 VOTC Stormies....What to do with the Vaders and Wookies is the question. :-\
-
I'm sure someone here will take the Wookies. :P
