Not necessarily sold on the CW figures (they're ok, but not great), but the rest of the wave looks great!

Agreed...probably the best wave since Wave 3 (ROTJ Wave with Gammy)

Could do without the CW stuff, but I loves me some Jedi figures.  :)

I think I'll pass on Kenobi (another Obi-in-Armor?   ::)), but I'll grab the other five for sure.  A little disappointed in how sparse Lumat ended up, but they have time to sneak something in there I hope.  I love the POTF2 upgrades too - Nien and Weequay are long overdue.  :)

Love the BFG!

I think a few months ago in a Q&A they were talking about rereleasing a POTF2 gun...this is for sure it

Good wave for sure.

I'm very into the CW realistic figures and I even dig Kenobi.  I hope they do younger Ahsoka though at some point.

Overall really happy.  I really am a little miffed at Nien Numb though...  they give him that gun but not a removable hat?  Isn't removable headgear pretty standard now?  That's some corner cutting bull**** IMO, especially with Ten Numb and others getting the removable caps.  Blah.

This is another wave I like.  Weequay turned out great to me.  I like Nien Nunb.  I will admit a removeable skull cap would have been nice but he never takes it off so I'm fine with it.  I'm glad they made Lumat.  The Royal Guard looks kickass!  I will buy up at least 2 of those.  Obi-Wan looks great as does Ahsoka. My favorite is probably Weequay.

Post by: Scockery on February 11, 2012, 11:15 PM
I dunno about Nien Nunb having a removable hat...his is rather thin and to translate that into removable at this scale might look bulkier than it should. The pilots had ear muffs and the mask to visually offset the thickness of their head covering, which was probably thicker than it should've been.

Wow, this wave feels like 1997.  Very cool to see these figures finally.  Strange to see them all in one lump and all from one movie, but who's complaining.  I like the CW figures, but they're just so unnecessary.  Unless this is Hasbro testing the water for what will be a transition out of the animated line in the next year or two.
Title: Re: 2012 "Vintage" Collection Wave 16
Post by: Jesse James on February 12, 2012, 01:16 PM
I can't agree on the hat thing scockery...  The Ten Numb hat is removable and only the earpieces are thicker.  The rest was so finely formed to the head and looked fantastic.  Even Dllr Nep's helmet is ultra thin and removable.  I think it looks fantastic, and it is nice to have the feature for whatever scene you'd like the character in.

I have the same feeling on Hoth Luke...  Hoth Rebel Troopers had 2 unique removable hats, and Hoth Han as well.  As a feature, the lack of the removable headgear is a kick in the nuts.  They can do it, and the price reflects that they should do it.  To me, it's like removable vests and working holsters.  It's a big step backwards in quality when they take it away, especially with today's prices.

Wow, this wave feels like 1997.

Yeah! It does.

I might pass on TCW figures, but the others will be very welcome. My only gripe might be the Royal guard. Not sure if they got the cape quite right yet. IMHO, the best one to date was TFU guard cape.

This is an awesome wave lineup!  Almost every figure in this wave is one that's been on my own wishlists for some time.  And the addition of the life-like Clone Wars characters adds something new to the mix.

Like others, I'm pretty psyched for this wave as well.  Some nice OT resculpts that I've been hoping for, and it is nice to get so many of them in the same wave like this.  All of the figures look great, and I'm actually sort of excited for the realistic CW ones too.  I know the ones they are starting with (particularly Anakin in the earlier wave and now Obi-Wan) sort of seem like been there/done that, but I can see that they're starting things off with this and I could see them building the lineup out with characters like Rex, Cad Bane, or maybe Savage Oppress, etc.  A lot of the more alien (or droid) CW figures fit in reasonably well already, but I could see them hitting some of those anyways.  Overall, great wave though.

I remember that year. We got Tarkin, Weequay, Nien, Royal Guard that year too.

Weequay has surpassed the skiff master detail, his head is very accurate, the wrinkles the hair tail.

Lumat caught the vintage style, looks not very detailed. An ewok figure needs a solid paintjob to succed

Emperor royal guard looks cool, hope they made a new removable helmet version.

Ashoka, Obi Wan have the necessary accesories.

Nien nunb lacks teh middle section of his face coloured pink

If Hasbro's doing realistic TCW figures, can't you guys totally see them working on a cyborg Darth Maul from the upcoming TCW episodes? Everyone loves Maul, now cut him in half and slap him on some robot legs, and you have yourself a cool new figure! :D

I like that Ahsoka. Very much. I'm glad they chose that version over the younger version. Now I'm praying Hasbro does a realistic TCW Captain Rex and Asajj Ventress, and I'll happily put away my list of much-wanted realistic TCW figures.

I was so surprised by how similar the new upcoming Weequay looks to the POTF figure. It's like Hasbro intentionally did it.

I know guys are down on Obi-Wan, but really I think all the SA updated OWK figures in a row, like an "evolution of war" type deal, are going to be kind of cool...

Like AOTC Obi, then the CW2D Kenobi, then the comic Kenobi that came with the S&M mask head, then CW3D Kenobi, then ROTS Kenobi...  I kind of dig that.  To me it'd be like getting a training gear Cody, realistic CW3D Cody (early war), realistic CW3D Cody late war (if there's anything unique separting it from ROTS Cody) and then of course ROTS Cody.  I like that aspect of showing a character's growth throughout the war.  Maybe Anakin will be better though, as far as showing that physical change from the AOTC Padawan to the ROTS Jedi Knight.

True - I own that figure, but the Maul model to be used in the upcoming episodes is significantly different from the action figure. The animated version has shorter horns and the original Ep.I sliced-in-half lightsaber. They could make that figure a general release compared to the SDCC limited release. It would undoubtedly sell.

Just out of curiosity, where did you hear that the animated figure is coming with the broken lightsaber? I don't recall that news coming out of ToyFair, but it seems plausible enough.

I'm sorry, I just realized my wording was off - I mean that the animated model for Maul to be used in the TCW episodes has a sliced lightsaber. Being that the figure is going to be based on his appearance in the show, it's likely that the actual action figure will only have one lightsaber, too. But who knows.

I would attach an image of Maul from the TCW episode, but I don't know how to attach images here. A simple "Darth Maul returns" look-up on Google will show images of him with only one lightsaber.

I thought the same thing, but my guess is that Wave 17 got fast tracked since the figures were needed for SDCC in a month so therefore the figures of the wave were made too.

Love the Royal Guard cardback.  Well all of the OT cardbacks but especially the Guards.  I will be tempted to pick up TPM ones.  I know everyone wanted them cancelled.  After they sit on the pegs for another year I will be in the same group, but I do like them.

Nice to finally get a peek at the "training gear" that is coming with the Royal Guard.  I don't know if I can bring myself to call it "Crimson Guard" gear though Jayson, because it's not...  this is:

Well - here's what's left:

VC71 - DTF Repack 1
VC72 - DTF Repack 2
VC73 - DTF Repack 3
VC74 - DTF Repack 4
VC102 - Ahsoka Tano (TCW Realistic)
VC103 - Obi-Wan Kenobi (TCW Realistic)
VC104 - Lumat
VC105 - Emperor's Royal Guard
VC106 - Nien Nunb
VC107 - Weequay
VC113 - Republic Trooper (The Old Republic)
VC114 - Prune Face

(sorry I'm too lazy to look up what the numbers are for the Naboo Pilot, Mawhonic, Aurra Sing & Gungan Warrior repacks)

That is EXACTLY 12 figures.

While I wouldn't be 100% thrilled, I would be totally okay if it meant that the cases of this assortment were just simply one of each figure listed above.

I would buy four cases and just be "done" with the wave - and if I could score Royal Guards on Amazon then great, otherwise, I'll just wait and hope that the figure gets re-released so I can further army build him.

I was really hoping that this wave would be the wave that hit - in force - at the brick-and-mortar stores.

I agree with Scott - it seems VERY odd that they didn't mention this at Comic Con - they had these 12 figures on display and glossed over them in their presentation because it was just like a "business as usual" attitude towards the ends of the 2012 Vintage, Movie Heroes and Clone Wars lines. I think this is something you should have mentioned Dimowitz!

It's not army builder heavy save for the Republic Trooper...  Which kinda blows as I'd like a little squad of him at least, but if they're online only it hardly would make this wave any different than anything else.

Like Scott said this was definitely bouncing all over Twitter last night and i know I saw some other site mentioned that started it.  A site I wasn't totally familiar with but I think eFranks brought it up.  He might recall it.

Thanks Steve...  I'd appreciate that! :)

If all 12 of those are one solid case online only, I can't say I'd be too upset.  It's a tidy way to wrap that wave up, as long as pre-sales don't blow out and people miss out of course.  I hate limited edition stuff, and that EU wave was kind of limited.

Quoted for truth.  I haven't seen a single new vintage figure at retail since February of this year, and haven't even seen evidence of a restock of any kind to make me believe that stores have gotten anything near me since then.  Walmart, Target, and TRU seem content to just let their mountain of Qui-Gons, Daultay Dofines, Quadinaros, and NRGs collect dust (which they have, and in copious amounts) and not reorder (or they're reordering and Hasbro isn't shipping them to stores).  I can definitely forget ever finding Starkiller and Shae Viszla at this point, either online or at retail, without having to sell a kidney to get them.

That said, just because I'm a loose collector and already have the DTF (ha ha) figures from Walmart, I wouldn't mind terribly if there was a case assortment that replaced those four figures with a second Republic Trooper, ERG, and 2 Imperial Navy Commanders along with the other 8 new figures.  Even so, since it looks like a case is the only way I'm ever going to get any of these 8 figures, I guess I'll eat the four extra TPM recards.

A case of 12 and I only need 5 figures.

7 prequel complete wastes of plastic.  Good that this is online so they don't "peg squat" like every other prequel waste of carbon footprint.

I still don't have an Evazan or Kithaba because I'm not willing to be stuck with all the prequel "packing material" they force into the cases.

It possible that a revision could be an online exclusive.  Maybe the revision with Aurra, Pilot, Gungan, Mawhonic maybe sold online only.  I would not think Hasbro would online exclusive those heavy hitters in that wave (Weequay, Royal Guard, Nien Nunb comes to mind)
Title: Re: Vintage Collection Wave 17 (2012 Wave 7)
Post by: Jesse James on July 26, 2012, 02:17 PM
I think anything's possible and the "online only" thing is a rumor started by another site, nothing to substantiate it (yet).  I could see it happening though...  the line's on life support and if retailers aren't ordering in quantity, this turn of events could be a clear indicator that they would only do these as an exclusive.

The EU wave was solid new, had a highly desirable movie-based BAD figure, and had insanely hot figures in it...  and it became exclusive.  So the precedent is there, for certain.

I'd forgotten the Royal Guard...  I'd want more of him, but I could also see some of these getting re-releases down the road, whether the wave is made exclusive or not.  Plus I was pretty ok with the ROTS figure despite people's complaints.  I'd take a hefty dozen or so more of those figures in my collection.  They were pretty sweet though pikeless.  I have pikes from the new TPM one though, so I'm good.  I'll make new softgoods if the need strikes.

I dunno what to say on this though other than C6 is right around the corner and I think answers will come then.

Like others have said, honestly most of this year has been "online only" for me.  The only wave I got at retail was the TPM wave, and everything else has been online through either BBTS or Amazon.  I doubt that will change.  I do hope that this last wave isn't limited, because it has a lot of great figures and some of my favorites of the year.  As long as it isn't tough for people to get, I guess I don't mind it being "online exclusive" if that is true.  It would be better if this stuff got to retail, but it is sort of the collecting world we live in anymore.  I really hope Hasbro gets things figured out a bit better in 2013 so we aren't staring at AOTC stuff the entire year.

It's all about the cape. The ROTS version was inadequate, especially after seeing how well it could be done with the TFU black version. This new one doesn't look as good as TFU cut, but it's a definite upgrade.

I want 6 of that Guard.  They are definative examples of that character.

Hopefully I can trade a few of the Prequel figures for a few.

The Imperial guard is the figure that's been done a bunch of times, and never really well...certainly not as well as the vintage version. I'm excited about this new one, since it looks like they've finally nailed it.

I still have to shake my head over that TFU Shadow Guard.  It was probably one of the most HTF figures of all time.  And even with the TRU exclusive TFU packs, that figure never got repacked.  It really was annoying!

They'll just vanish like the waves from 2011. I didn't even see that much of the wave with Rebel Fleet Trooper or Revenge of the Jedi carded figures, the wave with Bastila Shan I didn't see at all.

Where did they all go? Other parts of the country? An alternate dimension?

Hell I don't think I have seen anything new since TPM.  Before that I saw an Echo Base Trooper.  So, I think that was remnants of the last "new" wave I have seen other than TPM wave of course.  Anyway, I want a few of the Royal Guards for sure.  I don't really care for the extra comic book accessories but it's nice that Hasbro included it for those of that you that do.  I would not mind TPM wave figures being online exclusives.  Not that I don't want them but they are just going to clog the pegs another 8 months.

I don't think that will be the case at all.  I seriously doubt waves 4 and 5 will ever hit en masse.  If, and that's a big if, new vinty figs hit retail, it will be waves 6 and 7.  There won't be multiple waves fighting their way onto shelves.  Maybe I'm wrong...

That's right...the Tuesday Morning here closed 2 years ago and the nearest one is an hour away.

I checked Babies R Us here once...no non-baby toys. Awkward going into a story like that. Good place to meet single women, though. LOL.

Well - I ordered 2 cases from BBTS and 2 cases from EE.

I'm glad I was right on what the make-up of this case would be. It makes the most sense.

If I end up getting all four cases - I'll probably have a set of the four re-carded DTF figures available if anyone wants/needs them....

And I'll also have extras of Nien Nunb, Weequay and Orrimaarko available for trade for Royal Guards or Republic Trooper...

Expensive way to end out the Vintage collection....

Hopefully, but unlikely. Waves are planned too far in advance, unless they tacked a repaint/reissue year end wave on for 2013. They haven't done that in a few years.

I order a case has well.  It going to be hell getting another Royal Guard.  Once again the last wave gets screw over.  Hasbro should have made this wave Droid Factory wave 1 (except Aurra, Mawhonic, Gungan, and Pilot) and Vintage cards be the online exclusive.  I feel for the guys who have to buy 2 sets for carded set and loose.  I tried the a carded set and could not afford it.  So I feel for you carded and loose collectors.

I had gone to BBTS earlier this morning to check on the status of a previous order and noticed these were up, so I jumped on a case.  If anyone needs those four TPM recards (Naboo Pilot, Gungan Warrior, Aurra Sing, and Mawhonic) let me know, as I have no need for them.

I'm kind of sad that Vintage is going out with such a whimper (I refer, of course, to the distribution as opposed to the quality of the figures, which look great), but Hasbro has nobody to blame for that but themselves.  I'd like to think that, with the launch of the new Droid Factory stuff in 2013 they'll change things to correct these last two years' issues, but something tells me that they haven't learned anything.  You kind of have to admit there's something wrong before you can learn anything too.

Well - back before the EP1 vintage showed up there were reports of various case assortments - and everything up until the Tarkin wave came true.

What didn't come through were all of the ridiculous waves with even more EP1 carry-forwards and just a few new figures from both the lost-line six and the final 12.

Instead, what we're getting is the "lost line six" in a case where it's a complete set on Vintage cards and then a complete set on the lost line look cards.

And then after that, they took the remaining 12 figures and stuck them all in a case at 1-per case.

While this isn't a totally ideal situation for the collector who picks and chooses the figures they want. For the collector who gets one of everything still - these last two cases are ideal.

And at least with the first wave of the new droid factory - there are 12 different figures to build two 6-part droids. And where a figure is an old tooling it is at least a repaint - Red TVC Battledroid, VC45 Clone Repaint, Repaint of Sun Fac, etc...

To my recollection, this will be the first time in a REALLY long time where three cases in a row were ideal for a "one of everything" collector.

We didn't even get this kind of treatment when Legacy launched in 2008 - that first wave had eight new figures and four "Greatest Hits" figures of repacks - and from then on, every Legacy collection wave had at least 4 carry-forwards from a previous wave with changed droid parts so that any one droid was unique to a wave.

Even when Vintage launched - the ESB wave had re-packs (Boba, 4-LOM) as did the Vintage "re-launch" for EP1 (Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan).

So I think they are making good strides to help combat the problems of the past year.

Minimally they're making it so buying-by-the-case online isn't a painful process. As it stands right now, I have  26 "excess" Vintage figures from the cases I have ordered this year and no less than 9 of those figures are Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and BluRay Luke - that's ridiculous.

I preordered a case as well, but I'm tempted to order two.  I've never done that (and usually opt for the "sets" anyways, when I can), but there is so much OT goodness in this wave I'm tempted.  I'd like extras of some in this wave, and have - so far - kept up with a carded collection of the OT figures in the TVC packaging.  It would be nice to finish out the run.  That being said, I don't need - or want - the TPM stuff in this wave so I'm not sure.  Having twice as many figures I don't need isn't appealing.  I literally haven't seen a wave past TPM at retail here all year, so I don't have hope of these showing up locally either.  Maybe Amazon will come through like they have with other waves, but you know these are going to be blink and they are gone.

What a bunch of...eh...it doesn't matter.   I'll just let that wave go.  I really wanted a few of them but I'm not paying $130 for half of them I don't want.  Best figures and packaging they have had on this line the past 16 years and I probably couldn't find 50% of them.  Sigh.

Post by: Jabba the Slug on August 2, 2012, 03:51 AM
I'd like to start off by saying that I have never once bought a full case of figures, nor do I usually buy online. Ever since TVC, I've been buying individual figures from Amazon, because that is my only option for ever getting new figures these days. I haven't seen ONE figure from anything after the TPM wave at retail. Ever. In short, I've been adapting to the situation Hasbro has presented the hard way.

How is this relevant to this wave? Well, this was the one wave I actually really wanted - I don't know about you guys, but I'm all down for realistic Obi and Ahsoka. Those figures look stunning to me. And, as far outta the loop I am with OT, I'm all down for the Royal Guard figure. So I was really annoyed when these came out as online exclusives.

Well, I can say I've bought my first full case of figures. EE was the way to go for me. It really is bittersweet. I can't believe that I seriously spend $100+ - online, mind you - just to get 3 figures I really wanted. Ugh, Hasbro.

Post by: shmashwitdaclub on August 2, 2012, 07:46 AM
I am telling you, Hasbro has been wanting this for a LONG time now - probably since the beginning of the TAC line.  I seriously think these "distribution issues" are just part of the bigger plan for Hasbro to cut out the middle man - i.e. retail stores.

I'm pretty savy on Rebel weaponry, and I know Nein Numb's rifle is also a sorta update of the POTF2 figure's rifle, but am I wrong in thinking this is also a rifle that's briefly seen on Hoth?

Anyone able to back me up on that?  I know Hoth Rebels have more than just the typical rifle we've seen with Hoth/Endor Rebels in recent years...  There are other rifle types around in that sequence, and I'm now wondering if Nein's BFG is a screen-accurate piece of hardware.

Hurry, there's more Amazon preorders available. I bite the bullet and got two Royal Guards, figuring they'd be the hardest to get on the aftermarket down the road. I talked myself out of the Republic Trooper for now...seeing as he's from whole time era that I have one figure from that I haven't even opened..

I bought a pile from Amazon as well.  I don't want to miss those OT guys.  I'm curious if this will actually ship, or will it be one of these things where Amazon never gets the figs.  My delivery date is Dec 5.  Maybe I'll wrap them up and give them to myself for Xmas.

I came out of retirement for this wave, since I've been waiting for a Nein Numb forever (still pissed about the non-removable vest, but what are ya gonna do?) and decided to pick up the OT guys, plus 2 ERGs.  I'd love to wind up with 6 of them somehow, but I'm not holding my breath.

I went ahead and ordered one of each on Amazon... $12.99 is outrageous, but Target by me is $11.49 and tax, so it's like $0.35 each more than in stores.

Putting things in perspective, $12.99 isn't too bad of a price to pay for any vintage figure released post-TPM.  I mean, sure, Walmart or Target might have them priced at $10-$11 retail, but how many times have you seen anything beyond TPM vintage hanging on the pegs?

And given that these are online exclusives, it stands to reason there will be something of a premium.

But it's still ridiculous (though I made my wife log in on her account and get 2 ERGs in addition to everything I ordered because I'm Hasbro's bitch).

Yeah.  The ripple effect of that overstock of the TPM wave has been pretty catastrophic.  And given what Hasbro showed about 2013 at SDCC, it looks like they're not going to go all-out in support of AOTC in 3-D.  The potential for a wave (or more) of AOTC themed figures to hold up everything else from shipping to retail is not something that I think anyone wants to see.

You should really start trolling Amazon for these... I've bought probably the last 4 waves there.  $12.99 each, but if you have Prime there's free shipping and no tax (if Texas isn't collecting?).  I don't think I've found a new figure in stores since the Phantom Menace wave.  The prices jump around on Amazon, but if you're patient, you can have them for $12.99 or less.  Shae Vizla or whatever her name is, is the only one I haven't managed to pick up for that price yet.

I think at $12.99 each but with free ship and no tax, Amazon might be the cheapest online site for these.

Retail stores complain about Amazon having an unfair advantage but if retail actually bothered to restock their figures once in a while they would make the sale instead.

Close, but not quite - two cases from EE cost me $288.58 - that's 24 figures which means they are $12.02 each shipped.

And with the BBTS cases being $10 less, I'm sure their price per figure is less than that....

Don't get me wrong though - Amazon is a great alternative for getting the army builder figures you want above and beyond your case sets...

But Amazon isn't reliable for carded collectors. For everyone that got their order in pristine, unpunched condition, someone else got a padded envelope with a bunch of stuff crushed.

I can't take that chance for that price. I have to see what I am buying.

I seem to recall the crushed stuff mailed in envelopes being from a UK seller and not Amazon itself. I ordered three figures from Amazon just a few weeks ago, and they were unpunched and packed well in a box.

I've had 3 varying shippings from Amazon (it said from a warehouse).  One single figure was ship in a triangular box and was fine.  Three figures were shipped in a regular box with some bubble packing, but the figures were still a little loose in there and had a bit of dog-earring on the bottom (no biggie to me since I'm an opener) and then a single figure in a bubble-mailer.  The bubble on the figure was mashed some, but then again, I'm an opener.  All figures from the three orders were unpunched.

I can't say I've ever had bad luck with Amazon's shipping...  I can't recall how HTS has been every time I ordered there either really, but I can't say I had really bad luck there that I can recall.

I think maybe it was TRU slapped a sticker on the figure itself and put it in a box?  I know that happened at some point.

It helps that I open stuff and I'm not picky, but sometimes I do like to keep the packaging to certain stuff and other than someone sending me stuff with shipping stickers on it, I can't recall truly bad experiences.

I like the ability to cherry pick the figures I want from Amazon. I don't want an entire case were four or five are duplicates and I definately don't need them as soon as they are released. If I miss one it's no big deal, I'll pick it up some other day for less. I won't go for anything over $12.99. There is something to say for picking the ones that you want and leave the others for when they go down in price. Besides, I don't care if the cards are smashed since I'm an opener. Using this strategy, I come out ahead over the EE or BBTS price.

I guess I just don't care that I get them all anymore. I buy unique only now.

Amazon's shipping sucks! Ordered moff tarkin and gamorrean guard they packed, one face up and the other face down on top. They had a rubber band around them and to top it off they also had a layer of plastic wrap to seal them together. The items were shipped in the standard cardboard box, but after all of the unwrapping, moff was bent up and out of shape. I called and complained, they sent a replacement in a yellow mailer which was worse than the moff sent in the box. BE CAREFUL

With all of this clamoring for the Royal Guards, I have to hope that Hasbro might be looking to carry them forward into the Droid Factory line.  This is a repack I wouldn't mind in the least, and would probably be welcomed by a lot of collectors.  Especially if Wave 17 is only available online.

I would definitely love to see the Royal Guard re-released in 2013 as part of the Droid Factory or heck, even in the Movie Heroes line. Would definitely give me the opportunity to have a squad in the movie-uniform and a squad in the training uniform from the comics...

I'm always perplexed with Hasbro produces such a great figure and then makes it limited.

Also, I'm not 100% convinced that this wave won't have a second life at Five Below or TJ Maxx like the AOTC wave did. I still keep adding to my Super Battle Droid ranks each time I see one of them for $5 or less...

Not sure exactly where to post on the last vintage wave 17 yet..but here goes.

I jumped on an auction for the Tri-Logo version of last wave (17) of the vintage line.  We all knows what tends to happen with the last waves don't we?  In addition, does anyone know what the production runs may be on this last wave.  Hearing all kinds of things, and thre's a weird "vibe" with this wave.  It's an online store only dealthistime around, so I'm guessing production runs will obviously be low, but also worried that they won;t move as quickly, not having the brick and mortars selling as well.  These may show up in weird places..yet to be heard or determined.

I'm hearing from a few folks that the Tri-Logos were cut way short of production this time around (and they usually have a much lower run anyhow).  Curious to see what everyone is hearing.  For the couple extra $ it was per fig I figred I'd bite the bullet and take a chance on the Tri-Logos this time around. (only once before did I ever jump on a new modern wave qucikly, so we'll see.

Any additinal noise on this line, pelase post..curious to see what othrs are hearing.

Really the general concensus has been simply pre-order and wait for it to ship...  I went in with another local to get a case to save on shipping, but yeah, that's been why this is sort of a slower topic I think.  Pre-orders were pretty easy to sneak in and everyone seemed to get one case at least.

Amazon was selling singles.  That was the last big news.  I got a couple extra army builders and was content to walk away at that point.

I'll post here as well.

I ordered a Tri-Logo case off ebay.  I paid about $4 more per fig.  but what the heck with all the uncertainty with this line. Plus the Tri-Logos tend to have very small runs, so a small run of a more limited wave to begin with could turn out to be interesting way down the road.  It came this Wed. afternoon.  The figs are just fantastic.  The Accessories are extremly plentiful in this wave.  The Aurra lightsaber box with lightsabers is pretty neat.

The Republic trooper is outstanding...lots going on wiht it.  Love the color scheme.  The "Teenage years Ahsoka" is great.  The Royal guard is phenominal (love the extra helmet and shoulder pauldrons.  The Lumat with all his accesssories is pretty cool.  The OT figs are so detailed...they are wonderful.  Even what I would call the "ho hum" figs like the Naboo Pilot Gungan warrior and the podracer are very well done.

Lots to like about this wave.  Huge thumbs up!

I can't wait to see what happens in the long run with this wave.  REALLY HTF, jut plain HTF, since it's online retailer only will it not make a dfference, since mostly collectors will be buying?  How big a run is this wave really?

Come to think of it...wth ALLLLLLLL the knowledge we have on EVERYTHING SW, how come nobody ever posts something simple like a production run number?   ....EVER!

Hmmmmmmmm....

Hasbro never releases those numbers but there's general ballpark ideas, things you can sort of guess too...  Nothing ever specific really.  I think these will be produced in quantities that make them anything but rare ultimately, but their status as online only will make them mythical to some...  It's like the TRU wave last year.  People went nuts, but I'd wager there's so many of those they're nowhere near rare, they're just harder to find than say Endor Rebel, or Senate Guard, or Hoth Luke.

That EU Wave, there's tons on Ebay all the time and they rarely sell for what the asking prices are.  "Rare", and even extremely HTF, are terms I'd hardly ever apply to anything modern.

It's like the Naboo Fighter...  I want one and by all accounts you won't get one right now, but that doesn't mean you won't eventually, and for a very good price too...  Patience is what modern's about, to me.  Wait things out and eventually you'll be happy.  I buy most stuff when I see it if I want it.  That's just me buying what I want when I want to.  I'd be so far ahead if I'd waited on 90% of it though, haha.

I still look at my Commtech reader in disgust.   >:(

Haha!  That comtech reader is about the only thing I've opened over the last 10 yars or so (other than what the kids get and play with)

I actully used it with the EPI figs.  haha, just makes me laugh.

Funny the best stuff I love to trade is all the garbage freebies, giveaways, conventoin freebies and promos, freebie posters the comic stores get etc.

there is never any worries of having buyers remorse, worrying about what is worth more or less, or trading for a "fair" pice...becasue it's all freebie giveaway type stuff.  Love it...you can always have fn with that stuff.

I always get dejected at the toy show because someone's always selling TVC proofs for like $10 each...  I like the proofs as I'm saving my cardbacks (and wow, is that a lot o cardbacks), and then seeing the proofs being sold for disgusting $...  and nobody buying too so I just don't get it I guess.

Got My case 2 days ago just got around to opening them except Republic Trooper.  I love them all.  Weequay is probably my favorite in the wave.  I had no interest in Republic Trooper, so he stays closed.  Now if I can just track down Ewok Scouts and AT-ST Crew packs

Just checked on the delivery status of my orders from BBTS and EE.

My two cases from BBTS were shipped via UPS and are out for delivery today.

My two cases from EE were shipped via Fedex-to-USPS and are expected on the 3rd.

Not bad considering how bad the Jersey shore was hammered by the Hurricane.

No movement on my Royal Guard/Republic Trooper order from Amazon though.

I opened all of these last night.  Of the new figurs (not repacked from the WM wave), my top two were Nien and the Weequay,  bottom two were Obi and Ahsoka.  I think Obi and Ahsoka sit at the bottom for just because of the over exposure of the two characters - nothing really wrong with the figures themselves - they are nice.

The Royal Guard was cool and all, but not really wowing me as much as I thought, though I am still in for a couple more via amazon pre-orders.  Lumat, while just another Ewok, looks perfect!  And I love the accessories!  Pretty cool how the arrow fits onto the bow!  Pruneface was fine as well, though really not much new there from the BAD line figure - but nice to have an updated figure from the Vintage line none the less.

Overall a very "win" of a wave.  When it comes down to it the only figure I am miffed about having in the case is another Mawhonic.  Aurra is a great figure all around and can fit into several different areas of a collection for displaying purposes so having another of her is not a bad thing imo.

I was very happy with this wave of figures. All of the new figures are very detailed and well painted, and are easily some of the best of the Vintage Collection. I even didn't mind three of the TPM repacks. The only real dud in the case is Mowhonic... it was a very obscure character to repack, and considering the figure is the same size as an ewok but with substantially less gear its very disappointing. A second Royal Guard would have been awesome, but oh well. The Royal Guard and Republic Trooper are probably my favorites from the wave, due to their extra gear and versatility.

I opened up the eight new figures last night.

I was very under-whelmed by the Obi-Wan and Ahsoka figures - and I was looking forward to them the most. Like why is Ahsoka the same height as Obi-Wan? The addition of holes for their un-lit lightsabers was a nice addition that the realistic Clone Wars Anakin was missing.

The Jedi figures are all fantastic. Sure the Prune Face is just an update of the Legacy figure we got a couple years ago, but we all knew they were going to use that figure as the basis for this new figure so I'm willing to give Hasbro a "pass" on him. The rest - Weequay, Lumat, Royal Guard and Nien Nunb are all great and would have made for a great ROTJ themed wave - which I'm sure is how they were originally planned.

The star of the wave tho is the Republic Trooper - that figure is AMAZING and is a great addition to the rest of the Old Republic figures. Hasbro really stepped up their game for all three of these figures so I hope any new TOR figures in 2013 are equally on par with these.

I still think that it's inexcusable on Hasbro's part to have left Nien Nunb's lower mouth unpainted.  Even the vintage Kenner figure from 1983 was painted!  No excuse.

Got the same email though the later dates...  Don't care, I'm just happy to get stuff.

Some random thoughts...

I'm kinda ok with Ahsoka being taller.  She is older afterall.  If they were to do a younger one, and god I hope they do, I'd like her to obviously be smaller.  McGregor's not particularly tall so I'm not real miffed on the issue I guess.  I figure some creative license can be taken with CW characters.

I'm seeing prices drop on the ROTS guard and couldn't be happier.  I honestly like him fine and plan on picking up some when I see them for anything $5 or less.

I am geeked to get 2 Republic Troopers.  That figure is, hands down, outstanding looking.

Agree totally on Nein Numb's lip issue...  It's all about the $$$$$$$ though, as they've explicitly said paint aps are pricey.  Agree though, inexcusable.

Royal Guard...  I dig him but not a fan of the bearded head, honestly.  Guess the 2nd I can headswap with though.

I know it's asking for a lot but I really wanted a removable eyepatch on Orrimarko.  I really wanted to see a ghastly wound or open socket or something.  Make him look like a hardass.

Very happy with this wave. Though, I think whoever sculpted the Hoth Luke sculpted the Weequey with his slightly odd shoulders. A mild eye-sore. I think my biggest disappointment is in the Royal Guard. They still didn't get the cut of the cloth right. The cape from the black EU one was pretty close to perfect with an adjustment, so I'm wishing the had used that. I'm getting a few more from one of the Asian sellers, so I may experiment and hot glue a wire at the bottom of a cape to see if that helps.

I had a warped card as well, nothing bad, just a slight curve and no creasing.

Anyway, on my Twitter feed @Jesse_James77, I'm picking some of the figures apart...  I started off with Lumat.

I was impressed with his paintjob, as that's where Hasbro has been making mistakes lately, by cutting corners.  He's pleasantly surprising though, plus I got the impression they compensated a little with his spear accessory, since he's a small character for a hefty price.

That said...  Flimsy weapons, from cheap plastic, are back...  bigtime.  Almost every new accessory I've gotten from any figure I opened is a very flimsy rubbery plastic.  Very cheap.  Hasbro had remedied this, and I assume this is another way they're cutting costs.  ::)  Major gripe.  Very major, at $10-$13 a pop.  It's a big step the wrong direction.

I'm going to pick apart the Royal Guard tonight, a pleasant surprise figure for me.  I wasn't geeked about him, but I'm changing that tune somewhat.

So now I'm officially done with this wave.

I decided I'm just gonna open the extras of the Gungan Warrior and Naboo Pilot that came in the cases. I'm also gonna open two each of Aurra Sing and Mawhonic - put one of each of them in my Jabba shelves and in my Cantina diorama - figured what the heck - there's going to be so many "extras" of those on the market, there's gonna be zero value in them for sale or trade.  :-\

Post by: Mister Skeezler on November 9, 2012, 10:27 AM
Yeah, Pruneface is just plain awesome as hell, with a capital 'A'...and to think, he was only there to fix the copier.  ;D

Nien Nunb
I actually really like the fact that Nien Nunb is so short. I was always under the impression he wasn't the tallest guy, so it was great to see him at a non-standard size. It's a bit of a bummer about his lip not being painted, but I'll get to that eventually. He doesn't seem to hold either gun very well, but really, does he need them? All he needs to do is keep Lando company in the cockpit...and act all shocked and appalled...

Weequay
I've always been a big fan of him, even as a kid, so this was a great figure to finally see resculpted. I always thought he was one of a bunch of identically dressed guards, but he's actually just one guy: Queequeg (http://skiffguards.com/weequay.html). I guess the reason I thought he was an army builder is because I had two of him as a kid in the vintage line.

Oh well, Queequeg looks awesome, even with the leg articulation being the wrong color. I wish his vibroaxe was painted (like Lando's), but he's still a great figure, and I'm glad to have him finally not standing in an action pose all day. Now we just need this guy (http://skiffguards.com/weequay-guard.html) to finish the Weequay contingent!

Lumat
I don't think he'll ever hold that bow and arrow convincingly, but really, did the Ewoks ever? They kind of went through the motions. When my character in Skyrim kills someone with a bow and arrow, it looks and feels like a deadly weapon. The Ewok bow looks like the thing you make when you're five years old. But he looks awesome with it slung over his shoulder, with the arrows in the quiver. And overall, he's a great looking Ewok with a load of detail in the face, and decent paint apps. Can't ask for much more than that, though at his small size, I wish Hasbro would include some sort of set piece with him, like a drum or some bowls or something.

Hasbro has been great to us on the Ewok front lately...probably because it takes less material to make them, yet they sell for the same price. Sometimes I feel like such a toy whore. Whatever, just give me Mookie (http://images-mediawiki-sites.thefullwiki.org/10/5/3/3/1418662921900351.jpg) and I'll be happy.

Royal Guard
The one problem I have with this guy is his inability to hold his pike correctly. Sure, he can easily wave it around like he's berating an unruly class, but there's no chance of him holding it at attention unless you turn his wrist unnaturally, or balance it on his upturned hand. Since displaying the RG with his wrist mangled doesn't appeal to me, I've chosen the latter.

Other than that, it's really a slam-dunk figure with a load of accessories. I've ordered enough to make my squad of six, but now I feel like I want a seventh to be the Kir Kanos figure...and I don't even care about Crimson Empire (Hell, I've never even read it). That's how good this figure is...it makes me care about an EU story I've never read.

While not accurate to the accepted under-the-robes appearance of the Royal Guards, I kind of wish we could have gotten them with the vader-esque detailing we see on the vintage figure's legs (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/vintage/vintERGnorobesfr.jpg). When I was a kid I always thought they were supposed to be one step below Vader (strange, considering I was basing that mostly on their pants).

I got the last of my orders from Amazon today.  I ended up getting a case through EE and then ordering the extras from Amazon.  I haven't gotten a chance to open everything yet, but at first glance it just looks like a fantastic wave.  A couple I did get first and opened are the CW Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.  I know the CW animated line has its fans (and I'm one as well), but I'm really loving these realistic styled versions so far.  The Anakin, Obi, and Ahsoka are all pretty great and I'm glad it sounds like we'll be getting more going forward.  Although some of their animated counterparts fit in reasonably well, I sure wouldn't mind seeing characters like Cad Bane, Hondo, Savage, etc. get new versions going forward.  Also got to open Nien Nunb and Weequay, which are both great too.  Got my Royal Guards, Lumat, and Prune Face openers today, so looking forward to checking those out too.  Sad to see the Vintage line go (for now), but a nice way to end it.

for kicks I took a pic of Mawhonic's UPC on my smart phone and scanned it at Target.  Guess what?  It works....    ;)

Pfffew! I was tempted to order a few more Royal Guards and Republic Troopers from amazon but they're both down to scalpers selling them for $25 a pop now. No thanks! If I ever get the hankering for more Guards, I'll probably track down some ROTS guards since their price is going down according to Jesse.

I've been slowly, but surely, opening my case...  one at a time, methodical, like a sort of action figure serial killer.

I've been quasi-reviewing them on Twitter...  4-6 posts, quick little blurbs.

I have to say, so far, Orrimarko is getting high marks from me.  Dressel_Rebel would be proud!

The rifle...  You should see how Hasbro went detail on that rifle.  Everyone just assumed it was some WW2 rifle thrown into his hands, but either they saw a prop more up close, or they went their own direction with it, but either way they delivered a rifle that is all kinds of awesome and has a good working sling.

It's definitely, to me, not as EU likes to claim...  It's a blaster.  I'll always say it is simply a wood stocked blaster rifle because why would the Dressellian Militia have slug weapons?  Lame idea.  They've got badass rifles IMO and Hasbro made the new one's accessory a bit more sci fi looking, without going overboard at all.

I ordered another Ahsoka and Obi.  I realized my Ahsoka has 2 left feet I think and Obi I figured I'd get for free shipping.

AAAAAHHHH!  Boy did I screw up!  I ordered this whole wave off amazon months ago.  I've been really busy lately, and had seem that these were shipping.  I went to Amazon to check my order, and my order had been cancelled.  It seems that I had the account hooked up to an older credit card that expired, and I missed the e-mails notifying me of this because they go to my old AOL account!  Yikes!

I'd check around some of the etailers for cases.  You might nab one.

The individuals keep popping up on Amazon too, but the two harder to find ones obviously either go fast, or aren't there at all even.  I got Ahsoka and Obi the other day though and they'd both shown as out of stock just a day or two before.

It appears this wave will actually be making it to retail in Canada -- it was found at a Walmart on Canadian cardbacks.

I'm seeing prices drop on the ROTS guard and couldn't be happier.  I honestly like him fine and plan on picking up some when I see them for anything $5 or less.

So yes, it's true, as I picked up a pair for $8 this past weekend, and honestly, I think the ROTS can go "toe to toe" with the recent VC version.

After seeing both I'm not any more displeased with the ROTS figure than  already was...  It's a fine figure, and I'm sure I'll buy more if I see them and the $'s there.  The new one's great, don't get me wrong.  Even the pistol is new (the biker scout pistol).  It's a nice figure, and I love remobable brain buckets, but that ROTS figure's biggest flaw to me was its softgoods, and IMO this new one's no better, and neither bother me.

New one's cooler by a nose, and will cost ya...  2005 one's fine and hasn't been high in cost really and should go down...  2002 and POTF2 sucked and are practically given away.  I'll stick with 2005's for a sizable army of them.  Even if the new one became widely available, the 2005 figure would still be high on my list due to cost.

I agree that the soft goods on both the ROTS version and the VC version suck.  That's THE major flaw with the VC version, IMO, which prevents it from being a definitive version.  That is why I thought to myself, why even bother amassing an army of the VC version if it isn't that much more superior to the ROTS version.  And like you said, the VC version is a pretty penny.

They need to use a heavier, looser cloth that will fall... the other major flaw I think is not being able to properly hold the staff on the shoulder.  It's the only way these guys existed in the movies.  In a way, I still prefer the POTF Guard just for that reason.

I know that's a complaint but I don't understand what folks mean on it I guess.  I have mine (ROTS and VC) holding their staff in a pose which I consider good...  They hold the bottom and it rests against the shoulder.  Looks alright to me.  :-\

I agree on the fabric.  A loose almost silky knit material would work, ala Graxol Kelvyn (the big assed podracer fan from the one 3-pack during TPM's release...  HUGE figure).

His cloth is a perfect material for the robes.

I felt that the TPM VC figure, which was dumped at Five Below last year, was also a good fabric choice.  he had a light blue inner-robe like the material described above, but he had a heavier dark blue robe outside that his arms came out of perfectly, and it had a nice texture.  It's heavy, so it doesn't pose real well (the fabric), but I got all my TPM guards to look good standing at attention.

Soft goods are okay but only when done right.  Unfortunately, most of the time, Hasbro fails when it comes to soft goods.  On that note, the AOTC Saga Royal Guard with plastic robes doesn't look all that bad.

Could you post a picture of what you're doing?  I managed to get mine to hold them somewhat properly by turning the wrist all funny, cramming the base of the force pike into their hand, and then hoping that it doesn't pop off - which they seem to do frequently.

I think you and I are doing the same thing.  I'll try and snap a photo when I have a moment.  They're not out where I can get to them at this moment though.

On softgoods, I'm pro...  I think more often than not, they look fine.  Sometimes the fabric's too bulky but for me even the Royal Guards (2005 and now) are fine.  Not perfect but fine.  Same with the Jedi robes of late, and the "skirt" pieces.  I mean CW Ani and Obi are insanely good IMO.  They're a tough thing to get right too because what you want may not be readily available at production and such.

For my money, they don't inhibit articulation and stuff, so I appreciate them.  The Saga 2002 Royal Guard was so-so lookign to me, and I'll take softgoods versions over that any day of the week.  At $10 a pop too, figures had better be able to use all included articulation otherwise I'm pretty irked, haha.

No worries... and no rush.  If you don't get to it, that's fine.

As for soft goods... I'd like to see them try a Royal Guard with a material that's more like the cape from the Vintage (like 80's vintage) General Lando.  The light-weight felt like stuff doesn't do it for me.

The Graxol Kelvyn is basically the same material but less shiney...  I'd be cool with that too.  It's a good material.

Lollipop Mace had maybe the best fabric for this scale on any figure, ever.  People really don't appreciate that aspect of that figure.  It's thin, it has stretch, it's dull in color, it has a tight weave to it that looks scaled right.  It's got everything you could want for this scale.

Got Weequay, Lumat and Prune Face from Amazon today.

Opened Weequay already since his card was damaged (Which one of you guys sent back your damaged packaged figure  ;) )

Comparing all three 3 3/4" Weequays....they've never painted his shirt collar. Only POTF2 has the upper chest buttons/studs painted. Glad to have the guy less preposed.  It's funny it looks like they didn't even reuse Skiffmaster's hands for this guy. Glad he's got a skiff gun and not a stormtrooper blaster. Glad he's got no holster, because he didn't in the movie. It's one thing to add them to virtually unseen cantina patrons, but Weequay was quite visible. Wish his weapons were painted, but eh...whatcha gonna do?

All these recent skiff guards and no new skiff.  :'(

For the under $5 price how could you gripe about even the Gungan or Naboo Pilot ya know?  Sure, TPM figures, but great army builders.  Both are very worthy for multiples.

The Naboo Pilots head swaps onto the Fleet trooper, Capt. Needa, AT-AT Commander, probably several Rebel Pilots, and Hoth Rebel too.  Just an FYI.

Now is the time to army build Bom Vimdin for $3.49 (he's not an add on item, either.)

Still not sure Mawhonic is worth $3.25.

Finally found some two sided adhesive to do the Royal Guard cape taming trick and it came off rather well. RS suggests using the hair piece tape "Top Stick." I used something called twin stick that essentially the same.
