Title: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: evenflow on July 15, 2005, 07:49 PM
"Wal*Mart Exclusive Separation of the Twins: Bail Organa with Leia; Obi-Wan Kenobi with Luke coming this fall."

According to Galactic hunter this was confirmed at the Q&A

I really didn't think they would make the twins in baby form. I don't know what to think now. :-\

I still want a repacked Eopie with Obi-Wan and baby Luke.

As someone who is Wal-Martless, can I count one one of you to pick me up a set?

Also, at C3, when asked about the babies they smugly said "don't count on it."

Again, they probably had no idea that people actually wanted tehm.

I'm very happy happy they decided to do Luke and Leia, but like everyone else, I kind of wish we were getting either 1) Owen and Beru or 2) the Eopie.  Oh, well.  I mean, I know we all would much prefer a Stealth Trooper.

Anyways, I'm glad I waited on Bail, too.

I personally can't believe that they would think that people wouldn't want them... collectors want everything Star Wars, even babies.  Especially of the two most important twins in the galaxy... of Luke and Leia's first true appearance in the saga... c'mon Hasbro.   ;)

I'm very pleased that these are coming out... though I'm not sure how they will make the Bail an exciting figure.  Still though, I'm pumped about this.

Hopefully we'll see Owen and Beru soon...

I can't lie, i am still hoping for the return of cinema scenes to get Owen, Beru, and Cliegg Lars with Hover chair and removable legs. I can dream.

Somehow, I get the sinking feeling that it's going to end up being recards of the #27 Obi-Wan and the #15 Bail Organa with little PVCs of the Skywalker twins.  They'll be pretty much the same exact sculpt, but Leia will have painted eyes and Luke will have his eyes shut.

If you don't doubt that Hasbro would pull this type of thing, I direct your attention to the other 100% of the line post-56 this year.  Also, as to why I chose the Jedi Kick Obi-Wan as the version in this set, just look at his left arm and tell me it wasn't sculpted for holdin' a baby.  :)

Seriously, I hope I'm wrong, and these will be totally new sculpts (like Bail in his outfit from "clean these droids up" and a SA Obi-Wan in a cloth robe), but considering the fact that every other figure and/or exclusive is a repaint or rehash with minimal effort, I'm not feeling too good about these just yet.

Way to kill the buzz! :P

I'm really hoping it's Bail in the "clean these droids up" outfit since I love that costume.

But do the twins really NEED to be articulated? I'd be cool with PVCs as long as they were in some soft goods blankets. And I hope that Obi-Wan has a soft goods robe too, since it will likely be a repack.

Sounds cool that there actually releasing the babies (no Birthing Padme with babies though?? ::)).

I'd think the figures will be some type of repack with little plastic babies, probably with molded blankets around em. Hell, I bet we probably won't even be able to tell the difference between the Luke and Leia, pack one molded baby into two different sets.

No! Crappy figure!

But I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro chose to stick that version in this pack.
Title: Re: Luke & Leia WOOOOOOO!

I think the babies will be little blobs of plastic, but that's OK as long Obi and Bail have articulated arms that can HOLD babies I'm happy.

Nah Hasbro will claim making molds for the babies is too expensive, so they'll just glue a saved Anakin head to an upper arm segment and call it a baby.

Well, if it is done well (e.g. new sculpts of Obi-Wan and Bail and not the #27 and #15 figures, respectively, that I'm expecting) and packaged nicely, I think it's a pretty good choice.  Sadly, neither Obi-Wan or Bail are selling all that well right now, so making it an exclusive instead of an open market item cuts down the pegwarming potential by at least 80 percent.

If you want to see odd, take a gander at the majority of those Pegwarmer Buyback Boxes, err...I mean, "Battle Packs."  If there is a better example of odd figure choices, I'd like to see it.   :D

At least they probably won't be limited as some Target exclusives, and you won't have to get to the store one morning at a certain time or you'll miss out.

I'm sure that Obi and Bail will be repacks - look at the last 12 ROTS releases and list of exclusives.

Now the question remains, will the babies be new tools or will they be rehased from a Hasbro line (like Polly Pockets or something)?

I'm happy to hear that we'll be getting Luke and Leia as babies, although I would have liked to see Owen and Beru in one of the sets as well.  The Bail and Obi-Wan will likely be repacks, but hopefully we'll see some sort of new sculpt on them.  Eitherway, it is nice to know that we'll get a chance to get the twins, I didn't think that was real likely.  Hopefully they won't be priced to insanely, and will be easy enough to pick up.

I am still excited to get these, and i have hope they will be done well (i still wish it was owen and beru, but...) but how bad it it going to be when its repacked bail and obi-wan and the 2 babies will be the baby used in the Willow line years back.

The biggest test will be to see how they pull off sculpting the babies.
Title: Re: Walmart Obi Wan/Baby Luke & Bail Organa/Baby Leia
Post by: DoctorPadawan on September 23, 2005, 09:31 PM
As I've anticipated before:

BEST CASE SCENARIO:  Pilot Obi-Wan with soft goods cloak and uniquely sculpted Baby Luke bundle; Bail Organa (from end of film on Alderaan with the long coat; new sculpt) with uniquely sculpted Baby Leia bundle.

WHAT WE WILL PROBABLY GET:  Jedi Kick (#27) Obi-Wan figure with generic baby bundle that is supposed to be Luke; (#15) Bail Organa ROTS figure or Saga 2003 Bail Organa figure with the same generic baby bundle that is supposed to be Leia.

Reason for the latter?  Hasbro stating at C3 that they had "no plans" for baby Luke or Leia, meaning they would have to come up with these things fairly quickly, and we all know how much effort Hasbro puts into stuff they have to do fairly quickly.  Not to mention that it's an action figure exclusive, and all we really get from those are repaints or translucency in fancy packaging.  ::)

If I recall the Hasbro Q&A from Comic Con correctly, the Bail was supposed to be the existing figure with "paint differences". I don't remember what they said about Obi. It seemed like the big deal was the packaging, which was supposed to be a preview of the TSC cards. Hopefully we'll get pics soon... I'll take repacked figures for the baby sculpts.

Seems to be from a legit source too, the guy who has it claims that he got it from a Hasbro insider that he is friends with.  And also got the Utapaua Shadow Trooper and the TRU holo Palpatine.

These sets started to slip my mind as well, mainly because we haven't heard squat about them for quite some time now.  I'll probably pick them up if they are somewhat reasonably priced, and if they are going to repack the Obi and Bail figures, I'm happy that we might at least get Pilot Obi-Wan instead of the "Jedi Kick" version or something.
Title: Re: Walmart Obi Wan/Baby Luke & Bail Organa/Baby Leia

You guys have to know in your heart of hearts that both Bail and Obi-wan are going to be repacks. That's the exclusives way, minimal work.

Well, I'm fine with how this looks.  Actually, I think it's about perfect.  The pilot Obi Wan is a great figure anyway.  As for the baby, this seems about right.  I don't see what else they could have done (except make it worse!).  So I'm happy with it.

It will be interesting to see if the Bail Organa is a repack as well.

But will you be fine with it when you find out it costs $10 or something else ridiculous?

I don't think any pricing info has been posted anywhere yet, but I find it hard to believe these will be less than $10 since they are exclusives and "new" and different than the basic figures.   :-\

I went ahead and looked over the other site's forums, and the person who originally got this item said that WM's HAL had it priced at $6.88, which seems about right to me.  Considering basic figures are down to 4.77 in the WM Toyland advert, and that the Luke looks to be nothing more than a PVC accessory, $6.88 seems fair.

The thing to consider is that not only is this not a Target exclusive (which, as a rule, have to be priced at twice their actual value), Wal-Mart has already been burned and burned badly this year by Hasbro with the Early Bird kit, so they more than likely said, "Give us a cheap exclusive this time around."  Plus, Wal-Mart wanted something that would most likely bring people into the stores, and I think that a baby Luke and a baby Leia might be the thing to do it, considering they're the last main characters from ROTS to be made, by my count.

Nice transitional cardbacks. I think these will be great left on the card.

Too bad that the figures don't even appear to be repainted in any way, and  the babies look to share the same sculpt. Hopefully the price will not be any different than a regular figure, because paying a premium for a plastic baby isn't very cool, especially for card/loose people.

Those cardbacks look VERY nice, I may have to pick up a set to keep carded.

I'm kind of glad the figures are repacks. I haven't gotten a Bail yet (waiting for clearance), and it's always nice to have a Pilot Obi-Wan. However, the painting on the babies is terrible! Did they even paint the heads?
Title: Re: Separation of the Twins Figures

Leia's hair is painted but they really skimped on the painting on these. I'll pick these up for sure if they are at the basic pricepoint, maybe even a little higher. I'm not paying more than $8 for them though, a little baby like that does warrant a big change in price, ther is more plastic in that AT-RT driver gun than one of those babies.

I'm glad these are not even repaints, so there's no debate on opening them. I will be curious to see the price point though. WM is decent with their exclusives, but I will laugh if they try to push them at $9.99 or something and even try to justify it as a necsessary charge.

Yep, cards look great but we get rehashes for the figs.  I am fine with the babies being the same sculpt.  I have zero problem with that.  But instead of Bail it should have been the Queen anyway.  Kenobi should have his hood up and looks kind of lame when the picture shows him with his hood up.

But alas it is the twins and I will most likely buy them unless they are over $10

At $5-6, I'll get them. Maybe two sets, since those cards are really damn nice.

I loved these scenes in the film, so I want these.  :)

Seriously.  The Obi Wan set especially.  I've been waiting for this figure combo almost as long as I've been waiting to see that scene, so I'm excited about it.  And it's the pilot Obi Wan, which is the best they could do (short of a hooded cloak), so it works for me.

Lamest most non-inventive exclusive ever.  I could of lived with a hooded Obi-Wan but this is just cheap.  How much more to add a hood to the sculpt? Big pass. The Bail figure sculpt (face) is just one of the ugliest sculpts in the ROTS line.

If it's $6-8 I might get it, but 8+ is way too much, considering these both could be basic figures. It was the same deal with the Dlx Air Corps Trooper, could've gone basic but for some reason was made a deluxe.
The Bail figure sculpt (face) is just one of the ugliest sculpts in the ROTS line.

I agree, it looks like a CW Anime figure. :D

Although I wouldn't have minded seeing a "hood up" Obi-Wan, or even some modified sculpts/paints to make these different, I'm kind of looking forward to these as well.  I really liked this whole sequence in the movie, and like Spuffy mentioned earlier, I've looked forward to an Obi/Baby Luke combo as well.  I thought someone mentioned at one time these might be priced in the $6 range, and that wouldn't be so bad.  Also, although I'm a loose collector, I kind of dig those cardbacks...might be tempted to leave them that way since the main figures are repacks, we'll see.  Nice to finally get some "confirmation" of these (and pics).

What a great opportunity to give us a figure of Bail's wife and maybe one of the medical droids that deliver the baby's - but nope, we get another Obi-Wan and another Bail Organa.

Might as well have just packaged the infants on their own cards if you ask me...
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures

I feel Hasbro went a bit lazy on us by not tweaking the figures a little to make them more scene accurate.  It really wouldn't have taken that much effort on their part.  With that said, at least they used the best ROTS Obi-Wan that's out right now.  And I don't mind getting another Bail Organa for customizing purposes.  He wore pretty many outfits in the film and I doubt Hasbro will get around to making too many more versions of  him.  Depending on the price, I'll pick these up if I see them but I'm not going to be scouring the planet for them or anything.

Really, these exclusives are better than any others we've seen.  Look at the Target and TRU exclusives - all repaints, no new molds (minus the overpriced TIE Fighter with new wings).

At least with the WM baby sets, we are getting new molds of everyone's favorite twins - and a kick ass package!   8)

Its worse than that, Rob...we got the same Obi Wan and the same Bail Organa.

Who is this exclusive to?

You know, I probably wouldn't be so sour on this set if they could have just put a soft goods robe on Obi-Wan.

^ Chewie, I genuinely appreciate your "glass-half-full" outlook on SW collecting (it's a welcome counterpoint to some of the nitpicking and griping I've seen), and more often than not I agree with your assesments, but in this case I think people have darn good reason to complain.

Neither figure is remotely accurate to the scenes they're supposed to represent. Would it have killed Hasbro to give Obi-Wan a hood? And like Broem, I would have loved to see Queen Breha instead of Bail, but I recognize that's way out of the realm of possibility for Hasbro these days. ::) But would it have been so hard to tweak Bail's outfit so it matched the scene in question? Heck, they probably could have used Dooku's or the POTJ Imperial Officer's torso and then simply crafted the additional "skirt" part of the coat.

An exclusive is supposed to have some special or distinguishing feature (anyone remember the Wal-Mart Exclusive Max Rebo band 2-packs?). These do not--well, besides the babies.

It depresses me that these two extremely pivotal scenes of the saga--and the "first" figures of Luke and Leia--are represented so poorly in the toy arena. After the Mustafar duel, these are arguably the most important scenes in all the prequels (not to mention something people have wanted to see for 20+ years) so the toy versions deserved much better treatment.

(If it had been me, I would have done old-school Cinema Scenes with Obi-Wan/Beru/Owen, and Bail/Breha/and ... maybe Antilles or the midwife droid. But I recognize that that is neither here nor there.)

Now that these have been made, it's quite unlikely that better versions will be released in the future. :-\

Oh, I agree they could be a LOT better.  Totally.  I would have rather of gotten something like this -

Cinema Scene One -

Medical Table Padme, Medical hover droid, Obi Wan, both twins

Cinema Scene Two -

Owen and Beru Lars w/ baby Luke and Obi Wan

Cinema Scene Three -

Bail Organa, Queen Breha w/ baby Luke and Organa's hot female aid

Totally.  But for whatever the price is aound $7 or so, I don't see these as a bad deal.

I deeply respect you Chewie but for me these figures just don't move me. Part of being a non-completist is the fact that I can choose which figures I like and want, and which ones I don't want. I don't see why I would want to waste the $ on them. Guess I feel I could buy the two figures, find a baby figure or two, and make my own custom I would like better IF I want figures from these scenes.

I will agree that for $7 they are what they are and we don't need to complain overly about them. Just for me, I don't want/need/crave them so I'll do without em.

Well the packaging alone is going to get me.  Yeah, it could be worse.  Are we actually sure the price is not going above $7 for these?  I guess if they threw in a case like Target does that would be a "reason" to jack it up.

To me, I'm just glad we're getting figures of the baby Skywalker kids.  As a customizer who buys way too many figures for customs, I don't mind getting another Obi Wan and Bail.  So it's the customizer in me that is going to use those figures for custom fodder that is coming out.  I'd pay $7 each just for the baby figures... I've looked at hobby stores for baby figures before for these, and didn't find anything that would work.  So CHEWIE is a happy collector.

I'm with the movie accuracy crowd (of which I am a big supporter of)

Why not give Obi-Wan the cloak they packed in to Anakin Evolution?

Its all a cost thing, I know, but these sets blow chunks.  While I'll still probably bite so I can two Baby figures, the Obi-Wan and Bail suck eggs
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: Jesse James on October 12, 2005, 02:10 AM
I like Obi-Wan, hate the cloak. :)  Just to clarify...  But yeah, a softgoods Anakin cloak would've worked AOK...  And honestly, can softgoods accessories REALLY be that detrimental from a cost standpoint?  Compared to a newly sculpted robe they're not even close, but at this point it seems all exclusives will be half-assed.

Bail...  Meh.

I'm with the movie accuracy crowd (of which I am a big supporter of)

Same here.  Although I'm not as disappointed in the figures as the rest of the movie accuracy crowd seems to be, I'm left scratching my head since more time and money seemed to go into the packaging than it did the actual product.

The Obi-Wan figure is an outstanding figure, probably the best of the year (although the Clone Commander is a close second in my mind) and certainly the best Obi-Wan ever, period.  Even though it's a step up from what I figured they would do (use the #27 Obi-Wan with no cloak, since it looks as if his left arm is sculpted to hold a baby), the unhooded cloak is kind of silly, especially with the photo of him wearing the hood up features rather prominently on the card front, and probably the back as well.  If they wanted to cut costs and offer an accurate product at the same time, why not sculpt a new "middle" section of the robe, slap the Agen Kolar sleeves on it, and there you go?  Or use the soft goods robe from Evolutions Anakin or (forgive me) the VOTC Obi-Wan?

Bail is the one I have the problem with, personally.  I love the Bail Organa figure (I seem to be one of only a few who does; I just think people don't appreciate it since we see it everywhere we go these days) and I always will.  The problem is that it's not film accurate and that's the sticking point.  He never wears that outfit when he's in the presence of Leia on screen (unless you count the birth and he does not touch Leia there), and with the pegwarming situation for the basic figure at retail, a repack of it, Leia or not, is not going to be enough to get people to look twice.

Will I buy them?  Sure I will, because I'm a dumbass and want the "first" Luke and Leia figures in the overall six film cycle.  The thing that I'm going back and forth on is whether I'm going to keep them carded (which look great to me) or open them up and have my fourth loose Obi-Wan 55 and another Bail, just to get those two PVCs of the babies.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: Jeff on October 12, 2005, 10:05 AM
So, according to all the rumors that I've seen so far, these will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $6.88 each.

I am still on the fence.  I agree witht eh movie-accurate folks - this is probably our one chance at these figures and they kinda suck.  I wasn't expecting too much for the babies (how can you really do a nice 3.75" scale newborn), but the fact that they are straight re-packs blows.  Like others have said, why not throw in a sg cloak for Ben or a better Bail?   :(

As it stands, I'll still most likely pick up a set for the carded collection, but I think I will pass on grabbing an opener set for now.  I sure would be grabbing an opener set if they had done up the Queen or Beru as part of these sets... it makes me want that rumored Lars family screen scene more than ever.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: DoctorPadawan on October 12, 2005, 11:51 AM
I think one of the most telling things about these sets (as far as design and effort goes, at least) is that Beru and the Queen are featured prominently on the Obi-Wan and Bail figure card photos, respectively, and we have yet to get a figure of either.   ::)

One of my bigger gripes with the SW line is that figures are often advertised or pictured with characters or vehicles that are not even available in stores.  The "Clone Attack on Coruscant" Battle Pack is the biggest offender (especially considering it is the actual toy of the Republic Gunship they are posing in) in this area, but as boring as they may be, we now see the adopted mothers taking the twins from their wards, and we don't even have the figures to recreate those scenes.  :-\

Once again, it's a typical Hasbro exclusive: great idea, poor execution.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: CHEWIE on October 12, 2005, 12:28 PM
I would have gone bonkers if they had included Beru and the Queen... would be happy for a $9.99 pricepoint too if they had gone that direction.

This was just a cheap copout for them to get the babies to retail and charge a few extra bucks.  Still though, I want them and will be happy to purchase these.

Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: ruiner on October 12, 2005, 01:18 PM
Well if anything, the release of these sets demonstrate that indeed Hasbro is listening to collectors.  We asked for infant Luke and Leia and they delivered.

And yes, the execution is mediocre, but in the end, we got what we wanted.

I, too, would've loved to see Obi Wan with his hood up and a screen accurate Bail, but what are you going to do?

It's obvious that Hasbro is on a tight budget in regards to SW tooling....

Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: SilverZ on October 12, 2005, 02:38 PM
I'm disappointed in the figures, but at least this is a case where we were prepared for the letdown, since Hasbro confirmed these and gave a general description of what we'd be getting back at Comic Con. We all knew about them and that they’d be rehashes (well, everyone that stayed until the end of the, ahem, Q&A).

I actually really like the idea of them being transitional cards. They’re far better left on the package for me in this case. And I don’t mind actually having an extra Pilot Obi around – he can pilot his starfighter full time or maybe get a nice Mustafar soot wash.

I have a feeling we'll see the infant sculpts again. I'm sure a Beru or Young Owen is a done deal for an eventual release somewhere down the road. It’s a crime that neither of them have been done properly, now especially considering they are both in the final shot of the prequel trilogy. A Beru with infant Luke makes perfect sense.

I guess it depends on cost. If they're 4.98, I can see them moving quickly because of the Luke/Leia thing and a new cardback. Lame figure repacks aside, the presentation is pretty slick.

And for the record, up here the Lava figures sell out quickly. We're probably not getting as much inventory as SoCal.

No definitive word, but I'm not optimistic.  Something tells me if these were going to hit for tomorrow's DVD sales they would have already started leaking out (a la the DVD 3-Pack Box Sets).   :-\

I think we will likely see these (and the Target Utapau Clone exclusive) closer to the middle of the month to force us into the stores the week of Black Friday.

It makes more sense to keep the collectors coming back for more - give us a little in October/November (Mustafar figures and DVD 3-Packs) and then make sure we come back in Nov/December for more... :(

The only exclusive I can remember that was tough there was the "masters of the dark side 3 3/4" 2 pack". I think these will be pretty easy to find/grab. The Target exclusives have been a cake-walk this time around. The local Target near me had a NEW case-worth of Lava Duel figures and two cases of the Attack on Coruscant battlepacks this morning (not to mention the Utapau Shadow Troopers I scored)...

The WalMarts near me had a SEA of the DVD 3-packs yesterday morning. I had already scored them early, so it wasn't that great of a find, but it was nice to see that they got plenty of them in - and one of those sets was clones so that was the real money set. The other two sets will probably hang around for a while yet.

These two figures w/the twins (a) aren't army builders and (b) aren't exactly screaming to kids "BUY ME!!!" - so as collectors I envision these figures as easy to get as the Lava Duel Anakin and Obi-Wan have been.

He only comes with the pistol, which is packed in the holster of the figure, not the tray.

I'm really disappointed with these sets, even if I wasn't expecting anything other than repacks with a baby as an accessory, but for some reason, once you get over have an odd sort of new version of Luke and Leia, you're left feeling empty.

Don't worry, you're absolutely right about them being leaked if they were supposed to be on hold. If somehow they were able to successfully prevent any from being leaked, I would faint.

I found these today and they were with the regular figures.  Taking a close look at these tells me these will not be "flying off the shelves".   I'm really glad I didn't get another Obi Pilot and never got the Bail figures since these are straight repacks w/ babies in their arms.  However, the packaging is really cool!

To answer the "Protective Cases" question all the way I took a picture.

The Separation of the Twins DO NOT fit in the collector cases for ROTS (Used the Target Trooper case).  :( However, they DO fit in the case that came with the Covert Ops Trooper.  :) See Pic:

The top corners of the card back don't fit into the ROTS collector case.

I picked up a set at a local Walmart about an hour ago.  There were three sets of those figures in a long box of 12 figures. Tarkin, Count Dooku, red Royal Guard and three other odd figures fill out the box.

I didn't get a box number but the box itself was a long, narrow one that said "Exclusive" and basic figures on the side. If you see one of these boxes I'm sure you will know it.

Thanks DarthAcroyear. I'll keep my eyes out for a long, narrow box that says "Exclusive" and basic figures on the side. Sounds like it is different then the traditional figure box so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Went out and braved the horrible snow storm were having in Utah last night and found nothing new. Saw the unleashed battle packs but they were a joke to me. So far it looks like the twins are a mid-west only phenom. I've not seen any reports from out west or back east. It is snowing pretty hard still here in Utah, but if it gives up, I'll try again tonight. I kinda of feel like Pinky and the Brain when Pinky asks Brain; "What are we going to do tonight Brain?" Brain replies (modiefied), "Same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to find the twins again (instead of course, try to take over the world). I miss that show, which I guess says something about me.

I found the Twins today and holy ****, I just noticed the gave Obi-Wan a bit of gray hair near the temples?! Has this been noticed or mentioned anywhere yet? I thought he and Bail were straight repacks. Gray hair?!! :o

EDIT: Holy ****. After looking closely at my Obi-Wan #55, I can see the gray.... I had no idea.

And I HATE it. Man, that's ugly. Glad it's subtle.

EDIT: Damn, I was hoping Aunt Beru would be able to hold Luke but it's not looking doable.

Just curious, for those of you who have found these, are they usually just in the regular Star Wars section, or "action figure" aisle(s)?  They haven't shown up at our local WM yet, but I didn't know if they might be stashed elsewhere.  I have tried my best to check around just in case, because back when the ROTS sneak preview figs were about to be released, I found them a week before the "official date" hanging in a far corner of the matchbox/hot wheels/car aisle.  Anyways, just curious where you were finding these.  Thanks for any info.

These hit here now too and I guess I'm getting a set for X-Mas.  Nice getting SW toys for X-Mas.  Got a royal guard too.  I may have to keep my eyes out for more because I only managed to get a couple of him but would certainly like a nice bulkier #.  8 or 10 would be sweet since Palpy had 8 with him on the DS2 I think.

Found these today, very cool - and thank God they weren't Target exclusives, or they'd be $12.99 each and probably have either a lava reflection on the babies, or some sort of "stealth" paint application.

And good to see some Dookus and a couple Tarkins back on the pegs.  Couple red and blue guards too.

I picked these up today as well, but the other figures packed in the cases were long gone. I really like the baby "figures."

The best part was that I only had to pay $3.68 for the both of them - originally $10.33 with tax (take that, Target!), but I used a gift card from Christmas last year. :)

After not seeing these in stores and fearing that I'd missed out on my carded set, I walked into Walmart and found about two dozen on the pegs, and the accompanying ROTS pegs filled with the Guards and Tarkins from the case. Like others have said, it feels good to buy an exclusive at a fair price. Well done on Walmart's part.

It also feels good to be caught up.  :)

After picking up the Clone Wars DVD sets today, these are all I'm looking for until The Saga Collection as well.  I'm really looking forward to them, and was hoping to have found them by now.  Hopefully they won't be hard to come by.  I started getting hopeful today when I found some "different" figures on the pegs (aside from the normal Neimodians, Polis, and Mas).  When picking up the CW sets (and DVDs), I checked the basic figure aisle and they now had 3-4 each of Tarkin, C-3PO, and Aayla Secura (normal version).  I don't know that there was anything else new there though, so I'm not sure if these were leftovers or some other case assortment.  I didn't see any of the other figures people have mentioned shipping along with the "twins" sets.  Hopefully they will show up soon, it would be nice to catch up before more new stuff starts coming out.  I guess if nothing else, I'm pretty well done with anything on the ROTS cards...ready for the new card style :P.

These are weird in Pittsburgh.  They've seemingly come and gone so I'm wondering if a 2nd shipment is likely or not?  I'm getting a set for X-Mas I am told, but it was the last set left at a WM in the boonies so it's a little disconcerting to know that I've seen evidence of them being around at WM stores but never seen a set around, and I know a lot of guys still need them in my area.

These are weird...  WM's a real hit or miss place for exclusives.

Thanks for the offer Jim, I appreciate it.  I was fortunate enough to find some on the pegs this morning while picking up a few groceries before work.  They had several on the pegs, and I was able to pick up another Red Royal Guard too (which is now the first time I've seen one on pegs this year).  I think I am pretty much done with the ROTS line now, which is a good feeling.  I'd pick up more Tactical Ops troopes or the Wookiee gunner if I see them at retail, but if not, that's ok too.  Looking towards the Saga Collection now.  I really like this new card style, looks good and a nice change up from what we've been seeing this year so far.

Hopefully the Twins are still shipping indeed...  I know many around here haven't gotten sets yet.  They were OUTRAGEOUS at the Toy Show a couple weekends ago here.  They seemed to really come and go.  Fortunately my vigilant mother spotted the LAST set at the WM nearest to me while she had the cats to the vet.  It's good getting SW for X-Mas. :)

I hope for my local buddy's sakes that they are shipping again (and perhaps again) because man I don't know too many who got a set at this point.  I know if I see them I'm gonna try getting an extra set just so I'm sure someone I know who needs it gets it...

I was just thinking about this pair the other day, and how rare did they end up being?  Around here, I saw them once - early in the morning while stopping at WM for some groceries, and picked up both.  I never saw them again, there or at any other WM.  Maybe it was just our area, but they didn't seem real plentiful to me.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures
Post by: Jeff on June 21, 2006, 03:44 PM
I'd have to say that they ended up in the "rare" column - not impossible to find mind you, but not pegwarmers either.  Personally, I never saw them at the Wal-Mart near me (had to get some help from another MN collector and Secret Santa).

A quick check shows that they are selling for $15-20 each on eBay (carded).  That's a lot higher than almost all the rest of the other 2005 figures are going for and a pretty good sign that they weren't really that easy to find for most folks.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart Separation of the Twins Figures

I never saw them at all.  I refuse to pay 15 to 20 for a tiny piece of plastic that is supposed to be Luke or Leia.  I already have multiple or Obi-Wan and Bail for customs and display.  Knowing Hasbro, I'll pick the babies up in some future assortment. ;D

I saw about 3 or 4 of each figure at one of the two WM's I frequent. From what I hear/heard, I think that stores got one or two cases and just never ordered any more. Either that or Hasbro didn't produce that much.

See, now this is one time that regional distribution f-ups worked out in PIttsburgh's favor, and other areas actually were SOL for once.

In the area here, I'd say I saw them a number of times full price at various WM stores, however a short time later on (when ROTS was seeing clearances at WM stores) I saw a large number of Sep. Twins sets for a mere $3 each...  I kid you not.  They were quite abundant here and for half price to boot, so I don't personally clump them into the rare column...

It seemed like the East Coast lucked out on something for once while other areas didn't do as hot with them.  Very weird...

It goes to show why I hate WM and exclusives though.  To me they're no better than Target for reliability.  TRU's been the only store you could really count on to get stuff in and keep it in.

I actually saw few for full price...  A lot of our stores seemed to get these in bulk it seemed AFTER ROTS figures went onto clearance for the Saga line to take over...  I was surprised how many of these were around at all the WM's though.  I now wish I'd bought more sets for people who missed out...  I covered probably 5 friends on sets of these and got an improved card quality set for me to keep carded at the time.  Robinson's were there but they also probably went faster than other areas too...  Everything out there does for whatever number of reasons.

Robinson in general has always sort of been a wasteland for collectors...  I know a couple guys out that way who live literally 5 or 10 minutes from allt he stores there and they say what a picked over area it is.  I've always figured it's a busy area #1 so there's competition increases anyway, but I've heard scalpers frequent the area too and are somewhat known...

I personally hit the Greensburg, Monroeville, N. Hills (McKnightmare Road), and Cranberry areas...  I also am often at the Wal-Mart (and soon to be Target) on Route 8 as well as the new WM at the Pitt Mills Mall off Route 28...  My gf lives literally 3 minutes (we timed a drive once) from that WM so I'm there a lot just because we always need stuff and forget things routinely.

Where I live's pretty desolate (Leechburg...  I'm on the fringe of Armstrong County where all the major flooding's been going on this week), so I obviously don't get out to Robinson ever...

I will say Nirvana that a lot of guys have BETTER luck going up 60 to that Beaver Mall area and whatever stores are over there.   I think there's a WM and it's not too far.  You may find better luck with that.

C3 is so-so too.  The one guy that basically runs the PItt site lives out in that area...  He doesn't seem to hunt a lot for himself but I hear it has stuff a bit.

Being a UK based collector I got mine from R2Dtoys.  Can't recall how much I paid for them but us Brits are used to paying more for pretty much everything!!

I would have been more excited for these had they been Beru with Luke and the Queen with Leia.

More or less they were a waste of time...  You were re-buying stuff you likely already had to get, in all truth, an accessory.  Nothing much to gloat about other than at least the figures were good figures themselves for the most part...

What I find disappointing is that Obi-Wan is in tattered robes  and has his cloak with its hood up to deliver Luke to the Lars family...  I'd like the figure to represent that then of course if you gotta rebuy it and at least have a softgoods Cloak...

For Bail Organa though it's a whole other ball of wax.  he was in a completely different (almost military) uniform when he brought Leia home to his wife...  I'd like that figure personally since that's what we saw.

It's cool getting the twins and all but to be honest I found the Red Royal Guard repacked in with the twins figures to be of more interest to me.  :D

They really have taken a **** on us with the repacking of ROTS figures. How many single carded releases could I have skipped had I known? Obi-Wan, Bail, Emperor, Yoda, Zett... Pretty chicken****.

As far as the little Twins accessories go, I love them!
