In glassman's tutorial, he uses Smooth-Sil 920 from smoothon.com for one-piece molds ($26 for 16oz.).
For 2 piece molds, he uses micromark 4 hour one-to-one silicone rubber for the molds ($31.75 for 16oz.).
Glassman, have you ever used the smooth-sil to make your 2 piece mold instead of just the one piece mold? Its cheaper in price for the same amount, so I didnt know if maybe it wasnt quite as good. Thanks!

If I can sell off the rest of my custom fodder, I'm gonna go with:
micromark
CR-600 Resin $28.55 for casts and
4 hour one-to-one $31.75 for molds
Does this sound like a good combo for doing 2 part molds? I figured I would have the right stuff to do one part molds as well.

Keep in mind, that i prefaced the tutorial by saying, "Its just what i use, not the only thing to use" Its all about personal preference.
You can use the Smooth-on for 2 part molds. For me, I like the smooth sil for one piece molds cause its clear, and i can see where to squeeze out the air bubbles. I aslo like the cure time. I can make a mold and cast pasrt within hours.

I've just started out but I'm using the Smooth-sil 920. And I love it! Indeed, the cure time is really good. You can work really fast with it.
For casting I use Smooth-on 300 cast. It cures in 15 minutes and is clear white. Very handy as well.

I'll check that out! You meant smooth-cast 300, didnt you?
Does anyone use the CR-600 from micromark to cast?
-
glassman, what size is the polytek easyflo 60 you show in that tutorial anyway? It looks big, but might not be.

I use the CR-600. I've used all 3 that they sell (color cast 300, the CR-300, and the CR-600). The only difference between the CR-300 and CR-600 is that the 600 has a longer pot life. You get about 6min to work with the stuff instead of 3min.

Yeah, I'm sorry that's what I meant indeed.

I've used CR-300 from micromark. I'm pretty sure that is just the generic name for Smooth Cast 300. It works good but you really can only cast one or two small pieces at a time because of the relatively short pot life. Also you need to be careful when mixing parts A and B. You really need equal amounts (I fudge with a litte extra of Part B the yellowish one) to ensure a good cure.
-
So your saying its probably a good thing to put in more of B than A when just eyeballing it? I think I put in too much A when making the second twin thats why its still sticky.
-
I could be wrong with the A vs B. However, yes I found that I needed to over compensate (ever so slightly) with the yellowish one to get a good solid cure. I'm pretty sure thats what happened to your sticky baby.
