ahem...who was it that's been preaching The Shins 'round these parts. I'll mail you copies if that's what it takes to get you to check them out (offer good for Virex only, while supplies last).
Kings of Leon wasn't half bad either, I seem to have 13 of the top 50. I've wanted to check out Peaches also, if only for the name of the CD...which evidently is allowed on these forums too.

I take this list with about a boatload of salt. Especially when they list one hit wonders like "Junior Senior", as well as Metallica's "St. Anger" which has only sold about 1.5 million copies in the U.S.
I think it's a shame that they left out Audioslave, in additon to Hatebreed's newest album, which is being heralded as the one of, if not the greatest hardcore albums of all time. Not to mention it debuted No. 30 on Billboards Top 200, and made #1 on their hard charts.
I'd love to visit the colleges and coffee shops they poll kids at for these ridiculous lists.

I don't really want to comment on this list because I've only heard a handful of these albums, so I won't.
'Course, as it always needs to be said with these types of things, high sales don't necessarily equal good, and low sales don't necessarily equal bad.
And Audioslave came out in 2002--that probably explains why it's not on this "best of 2003" list.

I just find it hard to belive that more than 1 person would have mentioned a band called "Fannypack", in order to make a list.

I'm a little disappointed that they left Liz Phair off the list...
I guess I just don't get the kids today.
Or, I spend all my money on SW Action Figures and DVDs and just don't buy CDs anymore.

Yeah, I noticed the exclusion of both the Liz Phair and Zwan albums--both of which came out this year, and that I at least liked a little bit.
However, at best, they were average in quality compared to what those two artists (Phair and Billy Corgan) have done in the past, so that's probably why they weren't on there.
I wonder if WhiteChocolateSpaceEgg (1988) and Machina (2000) made their best-of lists for their respective years. . .

So. . . what in the world does "aren't even out yet" have to do with anything? Because a movie hasn't gone into wide release yet--that means that a writer who has already seen it in a press screening shouldn't put it on his list?
I'm assuming you're talking about these four movies:
-Return of the King
-Cold Mountain
-Big Fish
-Angels in America
Now, ROTK, of course, comes out in two days, and I'm assuming that it's already had plenty of press screenings in New York and Los Angeles.
Cold Mountain is being released on Christmas. Again, I'll assume it's already been screened for the press.
Big Fish is already playing in N.Y. and L.A., goes into limited release on Christmas, and releases wide on January 9th. I know that it's already had some pre-release screenings, because Kneel Before Zod saw it in Dallas last month, and posted about it at R-------m afterward.
Angels in America, I don't know anything about at all, but after looking at IMDB, it looks like it was an HBO mini-series that ran in two parts--the first being on December 7th, the other being tonight (14th).
(There's also another film that I've been hearing a lot about, called In America, which looks like it went into limited release in the U.S. on November 26th. But I'm guessing that the list was referring to the previous film, AIA.
Now, I'll agree with you that Rolling Stone has turned into a sh!t publication--but there's absolutely nothing wrong with including movies that haven't gone into wide release yet on a "best of the year" list. Of course, if the writer hasn't seen those films, and included them in his list anyway, for whatever reason, then there's a problem. But I doubt that's the case here.
(By the way--I'm going to see a sneak preview of House of Sand and Fog on Tuesday night, but it doesn't go into wide release until December 26th. Does that mean that I'm not entitled to say anything about it until then?)
