Title: 30AC Comic Packs #01 - Kir Kanos/Carnor Jax
Post by: Jeff on May 26, 2006, 10:19 AM
From one of my fellow Minnesotans!

I received the New Entertainment Earth catalog in the mail today.  They have a page dedicated to their exclusive Kir Kranos figure.  He is $19.99 and comes with another "mystery" figure which is not detailed.  They show a silouette of the cantina Han Solo, but I would be safe to say that is not the mystery figure.  I looked up the item number on EE's web page, but it doesn't come up yet.  The item number is HS87264

Thanks for the heads-up, Tony!   :)

Sounds cool.  Let's hope they have tons of articulation in order to pose them in the battle poses you would expect.  :)

$20 eh?  I suppose that's a better deal than Target's screwed up pricing for exclusives.  ::)

Get that man a scanner!

I wanna see this.

My guess for the pack-in is going to be a repainted ROTS Guard or a Darth Vader.

Exactly.  In other words we need to bend over and take the excess of one figure that no one wants.

It's gotta be Carnor Jax.  Nothing else makes sense (I know, I know, but I'm hoping Hasbro is following sense here  ;)).

Supposedly it IS Carnor Jax.  This info is coming from the admin at RS who first leaked the rumor that Kir Kanos would be an exclusive for this year and supposedly he said he'd already hinted at this in February but I guess I never saw that.

I got the EE catalog in the mail too, but my mail is over at my parent's place at the moment.  If nobody scanned and posted the pic by tomorrow night, I'll probably do the honors.

Be our guest, though hopefully we'll get a scanned shot of it earlier...  I hope.  I didn't get my catalogue today...  EE's slow to send stuff to me actually.

This isn't a surprise either way to me, but it's a cool exclusive I think...  The price sucks considering it's already a mold they have...  I assume they're using the ROTS sculpt as it's perfect IMO and it'll be a  nice poseable version of the figures.  I just hope they give him some good accessories and don't **** out on those.  For the price we at least deserve vibroblade staffs.

I yawn in their general direction

Outside of the obvious reason of cost...why aren't exclusives movie figures?  The last 2 years has been riddled with Holo/Lava/Stick a Sticker/Repaint ********

What happened to the days of Kabe/Muftak or Oola or Mace Windu etc etc  Give us Hermi, Give us Yarna, Give us ICMG give us anything other than the bullcrap they've been overcharging for in a spiffed up bubble

I will say though...the Clone 4 packs and the Astromech sets were totally kick ass, I'd love to see a Protocol Droid and another 2 Astromech sets EE :-*

From  the small pic he looks cool.

I agree with OCB. I would also prefer more movie type characters but at least its closer to the movies. I kind of imagined them as highly trained ARC type Jango clones, not Joe Schmoes from accross the galaxy.
They might make good custom fodder.

Thanks for the pic QG!

If you go to SW.com/whatsnew (http://www.starwars.com/whatsnew/), they show a link to the Kir Kanos / Mystery Figure 2 pack at SWS.com.

However, when you click on the link in that ad (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_sku=SWHBEUP&rid=SWCMTP00001), it comes up as "This product is currently unavailable".

Guess it not EE exclusive. Its another internet exclusive like Wedge.
$20 sounds reasonable considering they charged $13 for Wedge alone.

(I love how agile and Ninja-like they make these guys appear in the books, those helmets are so obstructive and awkwardly heavy they would be dead in seconds in a "real" SW fight. Yes, I know we are talkin Sci-Fi fantasy here, just had to comment. I wore one before, its like the Batman costume you cannot turn your head unless you turn your whole body.) :P

Maybe they are teaming him up with the ICMG in Royal Guard armor. Now that would be sweet! :D

Well, I'm not so sure about that yet.  Like I said, SW.com's link to Kir Kanos at SWS.com doesn't actually work, so perhaps it was just intended as a preview page for EE?

Anyway, the figure looks pretty darn good.  And it comes with a comic too, that's a neat bonus.  It looks like we'll find out "officially" who the second figure is at Comic-Con.  8)

I agree with Scott about the pricing...  I don't personally mind the figure, but considering you're not getting much of anything new there, that is what sucks...  But yeah I don't mind the figure myself.  I figured when we got the Royal Guard in ROTS's line that a Kir Kanos was pretty inevitable to come out in one form or another.

At $10 - $15 though, Hasbro really should be delivering VOTC/VTSC quality NEW figures considering that's what they're charging us price-wise.  Not repaints and rehashes.

So I kind of like the figure but not the price...  How often is that the case in this line though?  That's been pretty much 2006 in a nutshell from the basic figures on to the VTSC really. ;)

The Han Silhouette was kind of funny actually, and I'm certain Pawlus probably had a hand in that...  Cantina Han is sort of the inside joke with collectors.  I recall when it was Tatooine Luke...  Now a new one of him would be a dream to some people.

We are getting two figures for twenty dollars (without tax and shipping, of course, but I doubt it will come to fifteen dollars per figure unless you want expensive shipping).

I don't know why we all have to complain about the articulation in the figures this year. By quality, I am assuming that articulation is what you are referring to, because the detail has been nothing but great on all of the figures this year.

Regardless, why is articulation such a huge issue? I do not mean to get off topic here, but I just want to know. For main characters and troopers I want a lot of articulation, but for other characters, a lot of it really isn't necessary.

This exclusive does not twirl my propeller. I already have Royal Guards from POTF2, 2002 Saga, and ROTS, so unless the second figure is extraordinarily cool, this is a pass for me.

The ROTS guards w/o the robes are cool enough.  I had only heard of this guy before and today was the 1st time I saw him so I am not impressed.  I am sure EU fans are happy though.  And I usually like EU stuff (I have most if not all of it) but since we just got a cool guard I'm not excited.  In the end it is just another pricey exclusvive.  Pass. ;)

If you look closely at the prototype the torso is different than the ROTS Royal Guard (more plates than the ROTS one). Also the arms look to be ball-jointed at the elbows. Even if they are not the arms are different also (look at the gauntlets/gloves). If I was guessing the upper body is a new sculpt over the ROTS version, but we will have to wait and see if I right until SDCC. I don't think it is all that bad for $19.99 for a 2-pack, but I want to see the mystery figure before I jump for joy. Like someone else said the SWS Wedge was $13 and nothing was new on him, just all repack (Dutch body and SS Wedge head & helmet).

PS: they state he has 12 points of articulation, so that would be everything minus the ankles.

No offense to anyone, but I'm kind of amazed how many people are saying $20 plus shipping for two figures is a good deal.  I say $20 should get me 3 super-articulated figures at the very least, like with the Evolutions sets.  Four or five "regular" figures, like the battle packs, is also good.  But two?

Of course, I also think the VTSC is very overpriced (I don't like paying for packaging) and I've gotten really picky with basic figures now that they're around $7 again.  I hate sounding like a grumpy penny-pincher, but the prices are starting to drive me away from buying as many figures as I did just last year.  Several times recently I've walked around a store holding a figure only to put it back because it just didn't feel worth it.

Sorry for the increasingly off-topic complaining.  At least this exclusive has some newly-sculpted bits... but I'm still not buying it.

But that'll all change once the pre-orders begin! I'm picking this thing up in a heartbeat! And the more of you that pass on this, the better chance I have to get it. Boy, I sure hope Carnor Jax is the 2nd figure...that would rule.
Title: Re: EE Exclusive Kir Kanos/? Two-Pack
Post by: Spectre on May 28, 2006, 12:36 PM
Anyone think that the second "mystery" figure might be Kenix Kil (Kanos' bounty hunter alter ego)? It would be all to easy for the "mystery" figure to be Carnor Jax as they would share the entire same mold sans the head, but I have a feeling that due to the secod figure and the pack-in comic being left a "mystery" until Comic Con that it may be Kil and the comic be the "Bounty Hunters: Kenix Kil" one-shot. I could be wrong here and the second figure will be Jax, but it just seems like something cool for Hasbro to do for the EU fans (and besides, it'll leave Jax open to be an exclusive for EE next year and be packed with one of his black Stormtroopers :) ).

I just saying it is a good deal as far as exclusives go. Look at most and they are priced $13+ just for one figure. It's not so hot for basic figure price, but everyone is trying to cash in on Star Wars lately and their exclusives big time, which I think is do to them planning for Star Wars hype to end soon with the way everything dropped off after ROTJ in 83, but we all know if the figures are great that won't happen and with the plans for the TV series. Plus I don't ever think Lucas will let Star Wars fade ever. Someone will carry the torch on for him.

I've been reading through the EE catalog page with Kir Kanos on it, and that search box is confusing me--does it represent an EE search box? Or maybe an internet search box in general? Has anyone figured out exactly what it's trying to say? Because I really want to know the signifigance of the phrase Comic-Con 6B.

Ok, it seems I have another question. If this truly is an EE exclusive, then why exactly does SW shop have it listed in their system?

It's this just a little mistake on SWS's side, or will it really be available at both sites? Because SWS seems to consistently have more availability than EE, so maybe ordering from SWS would be a good thing (other than the obvious packing issues that SWS has had in the past)?

It means you should go to the EE website and search for more info.  When you type that Comic-Con 6B phrase it brings you to their Comic-Con 2006 page (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?searchfield=Comic-Con+6B).

Ok, it seems I have another question. If this truly is an EE exclusive, then why exactly does SW shop have it listed in their system?

Yes, it is either a mistake listing by SWShop or the 2-pack is not an EE Exclusive but rather an Internet Exclusive (like Wedge was).  No one knows for sure yet... just have to have a little patience as more details will be revealed soon.

I ask this here since the item I am planning on buying is this particular Kir Kanos set. Anyways, on to the question:

I know that a lot of people have had trouble lately with Amazon pushing orders back weeks, even months after they are due to your doorstep. Well, this Kir Kanos set is supposedly available September 1st. I'm new to this pre-ordering thing--does that mean if I pre-order, I will be getting mine around/on September 1st, or does it mean that a few lucky people might get theirs then, but I could get mine as late as even October or something? (I'll be pre-ordering from EE)

Thanks in advance  :)

At  the  EE  order  page  the  description  says  it's  a  "shared  exclusive"  giving  me  the  impression  that  it  will  be  sold  by  EE  and  SWS.com  only.

My  question  is  what  type  of  package  will  it  be  in.  Are  they  going  to  cram  them  into  a  single  basic  card,  or  put  them  in  a  special  box  like  the  clonetroopers  and  astromechs.  I'd  also  like  to  know  if  SWS.com  will  try  to  sweeten  the  deal  by  offering  a  special  Topps  card  like  they  did  with  Wedge.

Not only is the set at EE:

Exclusive Star Wars Kir Kanos & Mystery Figure 2-Pack (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS87264)

It's now up for Pre-Order at SWShop as well...

Kir Kanos & Mystery Figure Expanded Universe 2-pack (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_sku=SWHBEUP&rid=SWCMTP00001)

Both EE and SWShop say "shared-exclusive" so it's pretty much confirmed that it's like Wedge and more of an "internet exlcusive".  We'll have to wait and see if anyone else got in on the "sharing" though.

Shipping is cheaper by $.55 if you order through EE.

It's funny that they are up for pre-order despite the fact that we don't know who the second figure is!

You never know, it could be a ploy for Hasbro to unload a bunch of old Cantina Han's.

Title: Re: Exclusive Kir Kanos/? Two-Pack
Post by: Jeff on May 30, 2006, 01:47 PM
It all depends on when they get the stuff from Hasbro.

Orders get postponed from almost every on-line shop, SWShop is no different.  For example, the Lucas Collector packs originally said they would ship April 20th, but they didn't actually get them and ship them until May.

So, even though it says "Sep 1st" at SWShop, I wouldn't hold my breath that you will get it then as they have been known to be late from time to time.

As for the second part, the "fast delivery" depends totally on when you place your order.  Once it ships, they usually ship FedEx, so the closer you are to California, the sooner you will get your stuff.

Again, if you're concerned about how fast you'll receive it, place your order early.  I usually don't care how soon I receive my items (as long as I receive them)!

EE.com is VERY dependable as is the fan club so really it's a crap shoot.  Though, from my experience, EE.com is better at making sure your items arrive in mint condition.

In the same respect, why is articulation so bothersome to you when people want it?  ;)  I mean, seriously this has been a couple times now that people wanting something more for their money has "bothered" you enough to mention it Shawn so it seems articulated figures are a nuisance to you on some level...  Is wanting more/better that bad though?

Fact is the figures have gone up in price and really they haven't gone up in quality at all in any respect, and regressed in quality in others...  So that's where the main complaint lies with me personally.  For $5 retail I'd probably be citing the poor articulation a lot less on any of the figures and praising it more on figures like the AT-AT Driver or Coruscant Firefighter...

Quality on a per-figure basis in other terms is very relative to each and every figure...  One's sculpt may seem sub-par to even a line from 6 years ago, or the quality of materials used, or paint applications may be sloppy compared to even a POTF2 figure...  It's possible on any figure really, so I wouldn't say we're getting the best we ever have with the new Saga line all the time either, it just depends on the figure at hand...  Ultimately this year's line-up aren't better though than 2005 or 2004 even to really be giddy about an increased price for getting the same (or in lots of cases) less out of the toy.

That said though, articulation is a point of the overall quality of the toy...  One of several.  Since they are toys and not statues like GG or some other company is inclined to produce, I'm more interested in the articulation on them to cite it as a flaw in its "quality" overall when there's less, especially with the price increases we saw this year from just a year ago.

For me, articulation isn't limited to main characters, secondary characters, troopers or what have you...  It should be limited by the nature of the costume only when the price of figures goes up to $7 and change each...  The line, to me, is still going to be judged by comparable boy's toys products on the shelves it shares, and right now the basic line's lagging behind in articulation compared to where it even was a year ago unfortunately.  Even the figures with less articulation often were littered with a complex inner-mechanism for an action feature so you still were ultimately "getting more for less" as it were...

As a consumer of this line, I think articulation then is a huge deal in terms of what I collect and want out of the toy.  Give me knee joints on figures over a stand and mini-holo any day for sure.

As far as the Kir Kanos 2-pack, I love it but the price is right along the lines of what we've come to expect out of exclusives...  It's not great.  It's better than a $15 Clone repaint at Target though...  Plus the figures have lots of "new" elements to them that really make you feel like you're getting something superior to a repaint too for the price...  The comic, to me, is irrelevant, but it's something to consider somewhat with the pricing...  Either way the figure we've seen looks great and I'm really curious to see the next one...  The price is the expected inflated exclusive price at this point though.  :-\

So, I sent an e-mail to NewForce Comics to see if they would be carrying the Kir Kanos 2-Pack.

Here's what they had to say...

Quote
here is what hasbro emailed me:

> It's EE, Star Wars Shop and Hasbro Toy Shop exclusive only.

I imagine that a few of the other on-line shops will be able to carry this exclusive if they buy through EE's wholesale program (like many places did with the Astromech Droids) , but it doesn't look like there will be a cheap "by the case" option on this one...  :'(

Thanks for the update Jeff.

re: articulation - I look at what is accomplished in other lines for a comparable price - ToyBiz is a good example with LOTR and Marvel Legends.  Both of those lines are similar in price (US retail) to the current offerings of 3.75" Star Wars figures from Hasbro.  Yet they are not only better articulated but also they are physically larger, often have better paint application (attention to detail), more accessories (even if just a BAF but look at some of the junk Legolas figures came with :o) AND have better application.

For a comparable price it is then a fair point to make a complaint about lack of accessories or articulation from Hasbro in the Star Wars line.  Sure, the licensing fee probably costs more, but I'd hazard a guess they sell a lot more units per figure thereby reducing the cost of the unit even with the licensing fee.  But when you start looking at other lines, you realize Hasbro is cheaping out, especially when you look within the line to see that super-articulated are available on occasion.  No, not every figure needs a ton of articulation.  I'd accept that too much articulation is a detriment at times.  But less of a detriment than too little articulation.  Knees, ankles, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, neck, waist.  14 points should be a standard except where it's not reasonable to do so because of a sculpt.  I can live without ankles if they want to drop it to 12 and if they put in ball-jointed elbows they can drop the wrist articulation to get it down to 10.

I was on the fence with this one, but went ahead and preordered one for now.  I've always been interested in the Kir Kanos story, but haven't actually read it at this point.  I noticed in the little news story at Star Wars.com about this figure pack, that Kir Kanos and his mystery figure partner are the 2nd and 3rd figures in the "all new expanded universe series that started with the Shadow Stormtrooper".  Maybe that was common knowledge, but I didn't know that until I read it today.  I wonder what other figures we'll see in this "series".

Yeah, and I'm leaning more and more towards Carnor Jax being it (rumors aside) simply because of new toolings on the sculpt they used.  If you're gonna tool up anything new that you can get some mileage out of it makes good economic sense to get some mileage out of it.  The more something they tool up is pumped out the narrower the margins are going to go...

Since Carnor's in the same outfit essentially it would just seem logical to me that the figure be him despite the fact he's the rumored figure anyway.

Hah, you know that didn't even cross my mind...  It'll suck if it's a plastic middle finger from Hasbro.  Or something equally offensive.

Yeah I didn't even hesitate to put my name in with a group purchase of it actually...  The Kanos figure's enough that I want the set though ultimately.  Removable helmet, cool headsculpt for it IMO too, and a nicely poseable and arguably "new" figure...  Looks cool.  If whatever it is he comes with sucks though, the price is gonna bite.  Kind of like anything else that's overpriced that I bought (Target exclusives, VOTC/VTSC, etc.).

Slightly dissapointed in the Kir Kanos. I understand it's a first attempt and Hasbro rarely gets first attempts on figs correct but... his belt is a different color than the comic and....his helmet is too big; it covers too much chest-compared to the comic pic :-\. Well I guess it 's a typical good excuse by Hasbro to reissue/retool/kitbash the figure again in the future.

Red or black? what color should the utility belt be?

While Canor Jax seems the most logical second figure could it be Sish Sadeet. kit bashing a Bossk and painting him green is not too much of a stretch or it could be the bounty hunter identity of Kir now that would be cool and I would rather have either one of these two instead of Jax. But it could be worse..it could be a 500th Vader repack.

Hatas.

Yeah, that's what they are.

Quit whining you babies. You remind me of noobs over at sites like RS that keep whining and whining about a figure or pointing out it's tiny mistakes and flaws over and over again. If you don't want the figure, then say something critical about it once, and then be done with it. No one on these boards wants to read how you hate a figure in 5 different posts.

Same goes with Revan. On a lot of sites (including here) people repeatedly complain about how they don't want him or how he won't sell. But they say it over...and over...and over...and over again.

Seriously, no one cares.

As far as my tastes on this, I like the 2-pack and the price is right...  I thought Crimson Empire was a decent read (not the best, not the worst though either).  The figures look articulated, I love removable helmets, softgoods, and the pikes are nice...  I'm looking at the EU stuff with some optomism...  I think Hasbro has a deep well of film figures to work with too but I'm sorta glad some EU's coming in...   And at least it's two from the series that make sense too, unlike Revan.

I'll snag this one even though I'm not too into the story line...I understand they are Star Wars Force Ninja's or something, but I haven't played the game or read the comic book they are in.

my fear is that the Star Wars guys are going to fall in love with the 2-pack idea like they did with GI Joe a few years ago and almost killed that line.  Always packing a decent figure with so much semi-articulated plastic dog crap.

Does the other Crimson Guard guy's helmet come off too?

But seriously I'll snag one if for nothing else to encourage hasbro to re-release the decently articulated figures.

Well I did actually like that comic series when it was out.  At least the comic gave the Royal Guards some action unlike Lucas.  Unless you count Yoda's force push in ROTS of course.  It's a good idea for a 2 pack.  It would be stupid for them to make one and not the other.  I am not that crazy about the price but at least those that worry about EU figs rotting on the pegs you don't have to worry this time.

Thanks Roton, I appreciate that...  Fact is, I do just what you're not happy about though with my complaints on articulation and things.  The EU/Film debate's going to be a hot one.  The true test of these is going to be how they perform at retail...  There's variables that can taint the outcome (One thing getting overshipped while others undershipped, etc.) but really nobody knows how this is gonna go because EU in the past is a mixed bag completely.

I personally was one of the people who wanted ICMG over what we got though...  I don't think the 2-pack of Kanos and Jax is bad (sorta OT-ish, the guys are just random schmucks more or less, it's a really side story...  I'm ok with it) but Revan sort of disappointed me.  Vos not so much, but Revan definitely didn't inspire me. :(  Mostly because he is one figure and I'm not expecting many more from KOTOR.

I'll take Vos happily enough though...  None of them matched my want for a super background character like ICMG Wilrow Hood.  I mean, to get that would've been just a great moment in old-time collecting history.  It would've been the icing on the cake of the line I guess.

I think it's kind of odd they picked these guys first before others.

Granted they had the Royal Guard molds ready to go but I figure if they are gonna do figures from the comics that they would of started with characters in the Republic series.

I understand the gripes and complaints, but seriously if you don't like it don't buy it.  If it sits it sits.  For the last 3 months now my local target has had nothing and I mean nothing but bugs and yodas and the occasional vader and these are all figures that had dialogue and were in the movies and have pegwarmed like nobody's business.  do people that are complaining about all this EU stuff that's coming out really think they'll sell worse then some of the movie that's been out lately?  As much as i'd have liked to have bought the T sisters or the ICMG most of the background character left to make they're so obscure that they walk the line of being EU themselves especially when figs like Hem Dazon didn't even have a body and big H had to refer to EU to give him one.  As much complaining there is about the EU "crap" coming out I'm sure I could match the amount of complaints with actual movie "crap" that has come out.  Basically the whole of the first Saga "action" line is a good place to start how much of that whole line wound up being clearanced and pegwarmed to no end and it was a movie year.  I am not an EU fan I've never played KOTOR, and the only comics I own are those I've bought for reference to for custom ideas, so while I could bash EU just as much as any EU hater can unless it's super articulated I don't need another freakin' Han or Luke or Vader and would gladly buy a well sculpted/articu'd EU fig over those 3 any day.  If anything look at it this way more custom fodder.
Title: Re: Exclusive Kir Kanos/? Two-Pack
Post by: Nicklab on July 12, 2006, 01:07 PM
Carnor Jax was definitely a predictable piece to be paired with Kir Kanos.  I'm okay with it.  It already seemed that Hasbro was headed down this path when they made the bodies of the ROTS Royal Guards the way they did.  My only gripe with the Guards is that I think they should have included the force pikes as accessories, otherwise I think they're great figures.

Crimson Empire is definitely one of the better storylines to come out of Dark Horse.  This particular TPB held my attention more than some others.  I guess if we have anyone to blame for the difference in the armor of Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax, it's Dark Horse.  It's a little too ying/yang (or like that silly Star Trek episode) for my tastes, but whatever.  I don't think we're going to see a line populated with Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax reissues for years to come.  Rather, it's a one-off kind of deal and that's it.  And this particular product isn't even going to mass retail.  It's an online exclusive and that's it.  This one won't be the source of any pegwarming or shelfwarming.

As for the backlash against the EU?  That was bound to happen.  Some people are into it and others aren't.  Arguing back and forth about it gets us nowhere.  Either you're going to buy it or not.  But looking at the track record of the EU at retail does get as somewhere.  Sure, SOTE was a stinker.  I remember seeing Snoovas sitting around, and SOTE Slave I's.  It wasn't good.  But then there was also the EU line.  And how many people are still clamoring for Space Troopers and Dark Troopers to this day?  And then there's the biggest of all EU projects:  Clone Wars.  I think we can say with some degree of certainty that Clone Wars was a success.  Especially when you consider that the Basic Figure assortment barely had any army builders in the lineup, ie it wasn't driven by army builders.  The EU really is here to stay.  Clone Wars proved that the EU can work within the overall scope of the line.

I have no doubt that the Star Wars line is still going to be anchored by characters from the movies.  But as we get more and more characters from the PT and OT made, there's going to be a need for new characters to fill out the line.  There's just a finite number of characters in the Saga.  I think that we're going to see more EU characters filtering their way into the line bit by bit.

They're actually a Hasbro Triple Cross-Over!  Not only are they Royal Guards that look like G.I. Joe ninjas, they are Transformers as well!  Carnor Jax and Kir Kanos can combine and transform into Emperor Palpatine's big red toilet!  :P

I was not going to buy them but now I will.  The toilet transforming action gets me all hot.

No, I think it's great that they've found a way to add Tomax and Xamot into the SW universe.

Very funny.  They do have that vibe, don't they.   :D

I'll definitely grab this set.  I actually enjoyed the Crimson Empire stuff.  Good Story and cool characters.  Adding these two to a couple Shadow Stormies from SWShop will be fine with me.

I'm just glad that it's Carnor Jax and not Cantina Han after all.   :P  ;)

I finally ordered these along with the Commando 7-pack from EE. I like how they looked in person at CC, so I think that's what lit the fire under my butt.
Title: Re: Exclusive Kir Kanos/? Two-Pack

I thought they really were pushed better after CC pictures surfaced as well...  Hasbro really did a good job on these.  This is the comic 2-pack idea I think works best.

Marvel's such a dated series, the paintjobs tank the figures (I like things blending in on the shelf, not sticking out like a turd in a punchbowl), and I really think that if it's a new character it at least has some appeal whereas sherbet troopers and Chewbacca with some schmutz on his mouth is a letdown...

The EE set though, this is definitely a keeper. :)

EE has updated with a Carded picture...

I'm assuming that since it says "Comic Packs" that means that the packaging here is probably very similar to what we'll see with the rest ofthe EU Comic Two-Packs coming out later this year.

Title: Re: Exclusive Kir Kanos/Carnor Jax Two-Pack
Post by: Adam_Pawlus on August 24, 2006, 04:04 PM
Similar, if not nearly identical.  If you look at the top left of the card (where Carnor Jax' blade is pointing) it says "01"-- these are going to be numbered, and this is first in this newfangled series.   It's my understanding that this is the first "2007 packaging" to come out, and it should be arriving in the next month.

(And because I've been getting rumors sent to me, and I'm here, I figured I'd also say: This is an Internet exclusive, it isn't going to show up at Target/TRU/whatever next year.)

I'm hoping the line ends up kinda like the GI Joe Comic Packs (http://www.16bit.com/gijoe-comic.asp)-- fairly big, filled with new and old characters, and most important of all, a good sub-line.  I don't buy a all GI Joe, but I bought every Comic Pack I could find.    (And I still gotta finish that Joe article...)

It's a real nice set.  Although from the samples I got to look at, there was no comic at that stage, so I'm not sure if there's anything particularly special about it aside from a variant cover and the other little things like new ads (or no ads) and so on and so forth.

Thanks for posting Jeff, that actually looks kind of neat.  I think figure two packs have some good potential, and would be neat to see (especially for $10).  Its too bad that Hasbro is screwing up a nice figure like Han Stormtrooper with the goofy paint apps - and could have just went with the "realistic" style, complete with colors.  That said, these do look kind of neat.  If the figure choices aren't too wonky in the actual retail line, it could be successful.  You know collectors will pick many of them up, and parents might like the idea of getting two figures for their kid - and a comic - for $10.

I'm a sworn opener of all toys, but these Comic Packs might look so good with the Vintage SW comic behind the goofy colored figures, that I may leave them packaged.  I mean, I already have the figs, and I read the comics back in 1977!

They have to include a comic into EU stuff or else many people will have no idea who a character is, or why they are interesting.  I don't buy SW comics, but these look like neat figures, so I'll buy them.  By including the comic Hasbro fills me keeps me in the loop.

Well, they don't look like regular Roayal Guards to me.  The weapons are different and the two of them are painted differently, and one guy's got a big scar, and why are they fighing each other and... and...

BTW, if people wanted a Royal Guard, why would they buy these two for over 20.00, when Red ROTS Guards can be had on ebay for about 8.00?

Yes, they all pushed back to October now...

Star Wars Shop (http://starwarsshop.com) is saying October 23rd and Hasbro Toy Shop (http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByBrand.htm?BR=495&ID=17747) says October 30th, so really you might not even see them until November.

The delay is on Hasbro's side, not the e-tailers.

Post by: Roton7 on October 15, 2006, 06:42 PM
These guys are truly awesome. I don't regret paying $20 plus shipping on the internet at all for these guys.

The Good
First of all, the packaging is plain sweet. Then, the figures themselves are amazing. I thought their swivel elbows would take away from their ability to make great poses, but they don't. You can still make MANY cool poses with these guys. The soft goods are also sweet. I used to think that soft goods are stupid. Actually, I still think that. But the only exception is these figures. The ROTS Royal Guard had a lame cape that stuck way out, but the capes have been fixed for these guys. And lastly, the comic is an excellent addition. I hadn't ever read any of the Crimson Empire comics before, but now I'm dying for a Mirith Sinn and Sadeet comic 2-pack. ;)

The Bad
There isn't much to say here. My only complaints are that the gun tends to fall out of the holster, and the paint on the helmets is a little sloppy.

So overall, these figures rule. Period.

Okay.... I went with starwarsshop.com, and can tell you I don't recommend it, at least for figures on card without protective cases. Of the two I bought one was seriously bent back at the top of the card were the bubble is glued to the surface. The other one is okay though.

The card has 30th Anniversary collection deco on it, should this thread be moved there?

Hrmmm....I'm not sure why.  I paid $16 and change shipped for 2 nice looking SA figures with multiple weapons and removable helmets, and a  comic book to boot.  Assuming the comic book is worth $3, that means I paid $6 and change per figure and still got the shipping free.

Paying $6 or so per figure for an internet exclusive vs. going to Target and plunking down $12.99 plus tax for a (bad) store exclusive are 2 entirely different things.

Dressel Rebel does not condemn the Carnor Jax/Kir Kanos 2 pack.

Target, however, is still on probation.

I don't like the fact that we lose waist articulation as compared to the ROTS Royal Guard sculpt and the slash-cut elbow are slightly limiting but a decent set for the reasonable price.

I have to admit I am a bit underwhelmed with this set. I never read the series with him but the comic was enough. Seemed very 90's and dated without the prequel influence.
Speaking of 90's, I would like a new Dash Rendar the true 90's SW star. I really would like him and a good Snoova using the OTC Chewie.

Mine's left leg knee-to-foot just looks off- like the angle is wierd.  I can't get him to stand upright (or up right!).   I wish they'd articulated the ankles- it's impossible to get them to stand in an action pose otherwise.

Oh well.. they're pretty cool for the most part!
