Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: casting ?
« on: December 23, 2005, 11:47 AM »
Smarty,  Smooth-on makes a liquid plastic that is flexible after curing.

Its called smooth cast 45D.  You mix it and pour it into your mold, then 30 minutes later when its cured, its still very flexible. It does harden over time, but not to the point of complete rigidity. Thinner pieces are more flexible.

Plasti dip is great too. But thick and difficult to spread even, esspecially if you want a form-fitting cape or coat.

Also try flex- sculpey.  Or sculpey flex... whatever its called. Its also flexible after curing.
This is the easiest way. But you have to sculpt the piece, not cast it.

Sith, i commented how well you did painting this thing already,

But just so you know, I'm not usually one to want others customs...There are only a few.
This statue is added to the list.

Great paint job!!!

Phruby, Your sisters turned out great!  Reall like how you did that hair!
Chewie, off to a great start...3 1/2 hours...you usually get 4 figures done in 3 1/2 hours!

Would you believe i havent started mine yet???

514
Doh!!! I just bought a bunch of vintage weapons from flee bay!!! :(

Thanks anyway.

No problem Paul,  I tried to even curve the hilt, but the soft plastic kept returning to its original shape. Dont know if it still had any curve left by the time you got it.

I'm trying to collect one of every vintage weapon so i can make them as needed in the future.

Gregorbian was here a week ago...
He took time to comment on my last posted figures...

Thanks Grego

Its funny how fast time flies.  You think..." i'll finish it next week"  Next thing you know, its been 3 weeks, and that's almost a month.... Then life actually demands some time and you can easily go a month without posting anything... Unless your chewie :P

I think Chewie makes figures as part of his daily routine...  Wake up, brush teeth, make custom, leave for the day...get home, eat dinner, make custom, brush teeth, post customs and sleep.
I still say he's part machine... theres gotta be a T2000 skeleton under there. ;D

I commented over at RS on how much i liked the figure, paint apps and weathering,  but the veil may look better if it was a different material...
Otherwise Great stuff.

Your interrigation Rykrof is very cool.
He looks like he's been worked over worse than Mel gibson in payback. (remember the toes)

Very Cool.

Very nice christmas customs.

Han really neads a hat, and a bag of blasters!!

I was "bursting" with anticipation waiting for this one rip!

Great self custom!  I think the facial expression should be less happy.
She looks like she's dealing with an alien popping out her chest really well!  ;)

Great Kenobi. I always love seeing him in clone armor.

Great work!

522
Thats a very nice looking boba, phruby!
Love the paint job. You gonna attach him to that card??

By the way that saber is in the maill as of this afternoon, you should get it by the weekend.

523
I think you really got something there with that outfit chewie.
No matter who you put it on, it look nice.

You should make a squad of these troopers in this uniform.

Great Commander!

I have to second that the paint job on that pilot is very nice.
I may be the flash that makes it look shiny but the black and silver is great together.

Tha ARC trooper is nice, ant that weapon is fantastic.

Man, I'm mad that i missed this yesterday Phruby!!

Great dooku.  I have to agree that the vintage cape is less convincing than the cloth, and i'm not a soft good person...

I think a darker cape would be better.
Maybe that's why the vinyl one doenst work. The color is too obi wan.
Go get a binder from walmart/staples/office depot and cut the vinyl off of that. I'm sure a dark one would do the trick.

P.S.  i'll try to make the saber mold this weekend...  HO HO HO!
