Title: SDCC'08 Disturbance in the Force Set
Post by: Jeff on February 17, 2008, 07:43 AM
One other nugget to come out of Hasbro's mouth yesterday - the SDCC exclusives were announced!

No pics yet, but expect to see an exclusive Commander Gree Mighty Muggs and an exclusive Executor Chamber set featuring Vader and a light-up Holo Emperor.  :)

Well Chamber sounds interesting, is this the holographic emperor head they were talking about.

I'm also guessing that it will feature either a pre-posed Vader that is kneeling or the Evolutions Vader since that one can probably kneel the best out of any of the Vader figures. But I agree - this will be where we get the Holo Emperor head.

Speaking of exclusives, no toy fair exclusives for Star Wars or Indy?

Evo Vader and Bespin Sculpt Vader both kneel perfectly.  I think my Bespin one I have in a kneeling pose with his head tilted down like he's bowing to the holographic image...

This is awesome news I think...  Some of the coolest stuff out of TF this year. :)  Kickin' rear end on that.  I've always felt that was iconic, and would dig a display for that moment.

Commander Gree Mighty Muggs

Very cool! Will it have ball-jointed wrists?  :D

Doesn't the Bespin Vader have the flip-up cod-piece like the VOTC figure? I guess if Vader is happy to see the Emperor that figure would work just fine.  ;D

It's a separate piece, but if you're careful it slides under the cut of the thigh and stays flat...  No "I'm your papa boner" jokes for Vader.

Jeff, was this shown at all?  Or simply announced?  I just can wait to see this.

I could do without a Hasbro Star Wars exclusive this year to be honest.

It was not shown, but simply announced during the small Q&A that they did at the end of the presentation...

I'm calling it now, the Gree Mighty Mugg will cost $25 (due to the "Special SDCC Packaging") and the Executor Chamber will be $50. Meaning that SWS.com will sell them afterwards for, oh, double the cost.

I don't know, I'm not expecting much from the Chamber. Sounds like it'll be a rehash Vader on a small platform with the OTC Holo Emperor over a flashlight.

I think the chamber will be pretty sweet. Hasbro has been doing a great job on the mainline and will not cop out. Far superior to the lame ass (Read this with an echo in your voice) SHADOW SCOUT!!!!!!!!!

While I think MM's are the dumbest things ever making an exclusive fits the audience. I would have preferred a real figure repaint or something but this will be one less headache to obtain.

Man, I hear ya.

I don't get the obsession with MM figs. They are cute, but not $10 cute. And they are very redundant. I'm only slightly tempted, but it's a temptation I can easily overcome. (Especially with what is coming out later this year..AT-TE  drools on self)

Beware, it's the dark side of collecting trying to seduce you! Mind your training, save your money it can!

Also beware of the drought times, that's when will all will be most tempted to buy filler product.....

From JTA (http://jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3746/#details)

Q. In a previous Q&A with JTA, Hasbro grudgingly seemed to confirm that we might be getting a giant Emporer Palpatine's holographic head.  Would said hypothetical offering be in the Basic Figure line, or part of a Battle Pack?  And if it is part of a Battle Pack, what else might we get in such a set? [post-Toy Fair note: This was confirmed at Toy Fair]

A. Chuck – we are pleased to announce the details on this one.  "Disturbance in the Force," the HasbroToyShop.com exclusive for San Diego Comic Con, consists of an existing Vader, a newly tooled base with lights and sounds, and a new holographic Emperor bust.  When the medallion in the center of the base is pressed, the hologram and light in the middle of the medallion light up, and a loooong sequence of movie dialogue is started.  This is one cool exclusive, and will also be available online after the Convention starts.

Its nice to hear that those of us who cant go to SDCC will be able to get one online after the show.

It's a really iconic sequence too, to me, so this may be one of the better exclusives (IMO) they've ever done...  Far superior to a Shadow Scout, which was an inaccurate representation of other EU characters.  I'll take something like this any day over that.

This does sound pretty sweet, and at least they are letting us know up front this time that they will be available online as well.  Hopefully everyone will be able to get one, because it sounds pretty nifty.

Title: Re: SDCC'08 Exclusives Revealed

Knowing it's a HasbroToyShop convention exclusive, I'll guess that it will cost at least twice as much as it should cost...  :-X
Title: Re: SDCC'08 Exclusives Revealed
Post by: Brian on March 13, 2008, 03:37 PM
Yeah, from the sounds of it too, it could be fairly large, so I could see the price climbing up there a bit.  I mean, we were paying anywhere from $15 to $20 for "regular" basic action figures, so this could be twice that, depending on how big it is.

Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on March 13, 2008, 05:04 PM
I am very happy about this item, it's nice to have a real exclusive as opposed to the crappy Shadow scout. I really want to see more OTC exclusives like this, this is going to be sweet!

What stuck with me is one of the Q&A responses Hasbro eluded that they are making the old school frog eyed Emperor. I wish they would do a 100% new head for the evo one. I am really yearning for OTC, I am starting to get prequeled out.

At least I'm only buying one this year, so if it's a tad expensive, I wont be too bothered.
Title: Re: SDCC'08 Exclusives Revealed
Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on March 14, 2008, 10:43 AM
My guess is $30. If it's really a nice piece and big I do not mind paying the price as long as it kicks ass. If it's that good I would pay $40, which after buying online you will wind up paying close to that anyway.

I like it, actually...  About what I expected, and so long as it's not really grossly overpriced, I'll get one...  If it's in the range of the "Shadow Scout" crap they dished last year, I'll buy it.  If it's $40, I doubt I do, and wait for one cheap later.

Hmmm... interesting. I have a feeling this set will be more impressive in the package to help hold the pieces in place as they were seen in the movie.

And I think that is the VOTC Vader, isn't it? Definitely a great figure, except for those stupid angle cut elbows.

Yep, I think this exclusive will definitely be a "Keep It in the Box" type of exclusive. I'll still buy two just so I can open one though.  ;D

Yeah, about what I expected from this as well, and I like it.  Plus, its been said a few times that it has "nearly the entire sequence" of dialog, and I kind of like that aspect of it as well.  Also, as others have mentioned, it will probably be packaged up all spiffy - making fools like me want an extra  ::).  I hope to pick one up though, as long as the price doesn't get too crazy.

The Holo Emperor set is pretty slick and is roughly what I was expecting.

The holo is a bit underscaled, but that was to be expected and is obviously not a dealbreaker. Just assume Vader dialed down the image resolution on his end or something.

Eh. Neat, but not too exciting.

I have to agree. It's cool but I am underwhelmed on this one. Having Vader sit higher than the Emperor is throwing me off a bit. I will buy one but this is not a must have.

Agreed.  Hopefully the set will come with some sort of support to display the head "hovering" above Vader (when loose).

I had been hoping for a larger Palpatine head.  But then if Gentle Giant ever decides to do a holographic Darth Sidious mini-bust, it might make for a perfect stand-in for Palpy.

Agreed, a holo version by Gentle Giant would probably be better... but for now, this will do nicely.

That's what I'm waiting for.

I'll still get this set though. I like that it plays the whole scene. In the event GG does make a bust, if the toy version isn't needed to activate the voice recodrings, then I'll use the GG bust in it's place.

Pretty interesting idea using a theoretical GG bust. I never bought one for myself before. If they did that, I just might consider it if if looks cool in this set.

Why Hasbro never updates the votc Vader into a removable helmet vader anakin?
I hope do this, but they must take care of his eyebrows.

They could just reuse the Evolutions Vader. Better sculpt (ball-socket elbows) and sans eyebrows.

Anyone else having a heck of a time getting an order through?  Each step takes forever for me, and then when I get to the final "place order now" page, it sits there for a long time before finally getting a "your order could not be processed at this time, please try again later".

EDIT: Nevermind, finally got it to go. :)

Itīs a great toy, the flloor is well depicted, with the base that follows the meditation chamber on Executor SSD. Only one question, Why Hasbro never produces a Vader from meditation Chamber or already out of meditation chamber with removable helmet?

I think Hasbro should update 2 molds for a Vader with removable Helmet, the Votc and the 500th Vader, both from classic trilogy, but if they do such update they must be aware of the colors of chestplate and shoulders plates. Itīs time to update Hasbro, made them worth the bucks!!

We have one (and it is repacked quite often,) that's what the 500th Vader was...
