Title: ROTS Opening Weekend Great Collector's Challenge
Post by: Scott on March 27, 2005, 11:05 PM
Stolen From the great Morgbug...

Anyone want to estimate AND see how much they spend just this weekend on the rows and rows of stuff that will fill the aisles?  The '05 GCC guys and Gals have to do this anyway but those of us not participating may want to have a go at just this weekend :)

Here's the deal:
Keep track of every penny you spend starting on April 2nd.
-Anything that is in transit does not count.
-If you have paid for something (item in hand) and are still in need of shipping, the shipping costs count
-for Canuckleheads, customs fees (taxes +$5.00) count, if applied to a trade of international origin
-preorders count if your credit card is charged only on April 02 or 03, 2005
-travel charges (i.e. gas, bus, etc.) do not count as they are too intangible to keep track of (you're welcome Matt)
-all toy lines, collectibles, etc. that you collect are to be included - Master replicas, vintage, display cases
-fees for entrance into conventions do not apply nor do associated travel costs - it is presumed you would go anyway, but costs for items purchased at these events are included

My current guess: Roughly $650  ::)

I'm only budgeting $30-40 for the weekend.

So I'm a poor college student. I need to save some for the books to buy at the Matt Stover signing, for stuff to buy at Celebration III, and so on. But rest assured I'll be diligently plugging away all summer in $10 - 20 increments. ;)

My guess...  :-X

I have no bloody idea as I will be very picky on the figures and stuff. I'll just play it by ear.

I'm guessing $50-60, depending on if I locate an Unleashed Grievous or not.

Great?   Bwahahahahaha.  Funny.

Anyhoo, not terribly much is my estimate.  Walmarts around here are leaking badly and it looks like we've only seen the first 24 arrive.  I have most of what I want from that already, the rest I'm going to wait to get on clearance or loose, hopefully for cheap.

I've already passed on at least 12 of the first 24, though made up for it by buying 4 red guards already.  Have passed on Lego and the ships as well.

I'll guess less than $100 if there's not much there.  If later waves arrive, I'll bump that to $300 due to army builders.

If my Excel sheet is right, and I find what I still need of the reportedly available items, I'm looking at spending $530.00 on 3-3/4" figures and vehicles. This doesn't include army builders or whim items like Unleashed. I figure about $700.00 total.

Right now, $50-75, depending on WM Early Bird situation.

The WalMart near me is leaking badly as well - I got into a fight with the lady in toys, a manager and the cashier this morning because there was an open box of Deluxe figures in the action figure aisle. Their problem (with me) was that I pulled the figures from the case. My problem with them was that this was not the first, not the second, but the THIRD time I had found ROTS stuff in the store and been denied sale at the register. I told the manager that every morning I come in and can physically SEE the stuff I'm going to pull a stink in his store - if I'm not "allowed" to buy it, I DON'T EVEN WANT TO SEE IT!
Title: Re: ROTS Opening Weekend Great Collector's Challenge
Post by: Scott on March 28, 2005, 10:20 AM
Well, I just totalled what I need to buy (assuming that there will be figures through #40-Mas Amedda)

$205 for 3-3/4"
$40 for Unleashed Obi-Wan and Anakin
6.5% Tax

$260 total

I may hold off on the Jedi until after I open them.  I'll be more than happy to replace some of the crap that came out in 2002, but I may wait for clearance or trading

This would mean I'm at $195 total

So, low side $195 and high side is $260.  I'll see if I have enough fortitude to:

A. Not buy stuff I have coming in cases from EE 2-3 months from now
B.  Go nuts on Army Builders

I can't wait for this weekend though, should be a blast :)

I'm really looking forward to this weekend too, lots of great product and the movie looks like it is going to be what we've been waiting for from the prequels.  Good times :).  Here's what I'm looking at spending wise:

3 3/4" Figures - Most of the basic ones, still debating how much to get opening day.  I'll figure around $130-$150 here.

Unleashed - Obi Wan and Anakin for sure, possibly Grievous as well.  $15 a pop, so $45 before tax.

Vehicles - If I see them, ARC 170 ($30), Obi-Wan's Starfighter ($20), and the Boga and AT-RT ($15 each).  Still deciding on vehicles, might wait on some or all of them.  The ones listed here are the ones I would really like to get, with the BARC Speeder, Tri-Droid, and Grievous Wheelie coming later if at all.  Total for Vehicles, $80.

I'll give a rough estimate of $250ish, although I wanted to stay at or below $200, so we'll have to see.  I know the Mrs. would definitely like to see me stay below the $200 number.  I might try to do that.  I'd like to use the excuse that (I'll get this all now, and there won't be much later on), but I know in a movie year, that isn't necessarily true.  I also hope to pick up the Visual Dictionary that day, so tack that on as well I suppose if we're extending this beyond toys.
Title: Re: ROTS Opening Weekend Great Collector's Challenge
Post by: Jeff on March 28, 2005, 10:32 AM
I don't even want to guess...  :-\

If they have figures through #40 as some are saying, well that's:

38 for carded collection (counting both Red and Blue guard, minus the 3 I grabbed early - yoda/tarful/r2)
41 for loose collection (counting both Red and Blue guard)
6 extras to open (Army builders for guards & clones)

Then, we add in:
4x deluxe figures
2x small vehicles
1x large vehicle

That brings us to:
approx. $474.35 for 85 basic figures ($5.24 at Wal-Mart)
approx. $46.82 for 4 deluxe figures
approx. $23.41 for the small vehicles (BARC, Boga)
approx. $31.94 for the ARC-170

Grand total = $576.52

Of course, it will be more if they have the Mustafar playset or other stuff...   :(
Or, it could be less (by about $25) if I get the Target coupon...  :)

Jeff

Post by: Pete_Fett on March 28, 2005, 10:46 AM
Well - here it goes - here is my rough estimate...

This makes for a grand total of: $1351.28

I may be off with the price of 12" figures and the Battle Arenas and right now I'm hoping to grab 3 Lava Vaders (one for me MOC, one for me to open and one for my step-grandson - I've gotten him all silver/exclusive figures so far) - so whether or not I'm successful will vary the spending total. I'm also assuming that I'll be able to find all 40 figures, plus the Senate Guard red/blue variants, the first FOUR deluxe figures and the AT-RT (which is Wave 2 of the small vehicles). If any more items come out on the 2nd than what we're all guessing is coming out, my spending will go up (of course).

Does anyone know if my prices are off for anything?

Edited the post to correct my price for the Ultimate Villian Darth Vader based on Jeff's post below...Thanks Jeff!

Post by: Jeff on March 28, 2005, 11:21 AM
Ultimate Villian Darth Vader 12" Figure x $29.99? + 6% sales tax = $31.79[/li]

Does anyone know if my prices are off for anything?

They all look pretty close to what we've heard so far, with the exception of the 12" Ultimate Anakin/Vader.

The Hasbro MSRP = $49.99, and Amazon.com had it listed for about the same.  I think it was in the Target and TRU computers for around $40-45.

Here's the deal:
Keep track of every penny you spend starting on April 2nd.

What about the early leaks a few of us were lucky enough to score?  Does that technically count, since they're supposed to be April 2nd releases?

I'm guessing just for the 4" line around, I'm looking at about $750 those first few days.

I think I'm laying off the prequel stuff for most of the other lines, so "Other Collectibles" and whatnot shouldn't be too overly painful.  Probably just the mini-sabers, and maybe the Titanium series vehicles...

If I find one of every figure I want then I should come out under $100, but if they have the duplicates that I want, then who knows how much I'll spend. :-\
Title: Re: ROTS Opening Weekend Great Collector's Challenge
Post by: Darth Kenobi on March 28, 2005, 08:44 PM
For my self I'm probally going to spend about $400 dollars that day with some stuff I going to buy for work another $300 or so but I will hopefully get that back once I sell off those estras products.
Title: Re: ROTS Opening Weekend Great Collector's Challenge
Post by: Jim on March 29, 2005, 02:15 PM
Im limiting myself to $300.  One of each fig with room for a few duplicates on Army Builders plus some Playskool for my son.  Ill wait on DLX and the Ships.  They always show up later in greater quantites. You can have the playset.  Its the worst to date IMO.

Has anyone found any TRU or WM that arent advertising a MM but are still having one?

That's fine with me - I didn't include the Mid-Size vehicles in my tally - I found all three of the new ones at Target awhile back. I grabbed the first wave of Deluxe Figures last night (Anakin, Obi-Wan & Grevious) so that's roughly $65 that will come off my estimate. I'm still coming in at over $1200..

As for my estimate, I can bring it down by about $25 since I was lucky enough to get the Target coupon in the mail today.   :)

I'll definitely be headed to Target to get the most out of my coupon...

Nah, Jeff was just using the rolleyes at me there, not you Pete!  You didn't offend anyone...   ;)

I think Scott's comment was directed at this guy...  ::)

Hey you two Minnesota turds, watch it!

I think I'm gonna play by different rules then, and just tally up all the "4/2" merchandise, regardless of whether I nabbed some of it earlier.  So whaddaya think about that, eh?!   :-*

Yeah, that's what I thought!  Feel free to join me Pete.  Or maybe I'll play nice, and do two separate totals, and keep everyone happy.  I'll have to think about it.

BTW, what the hell are you dropping $1,200 on, Pete?!   :o  I can only assume that includes a ****load of army building stuff, right?  'Cause I'm doing the whole carded/loose, ships, deluxe, beasts, etc. thing like usual, but I was only figurin' that I'd have to be dropping about $750ish on it all...  Or are you including books, games, and other collectible kinda stuff as well...?

Yeah, maybe you guys do spend a LOT of $$$, but I'd like to thank you big-spenders...

If it weren't for my ability to show off that thread and say things like:

"Yeah honey, I know $1600 a year on SW toys sounds like a lot, but there's this guy Morgbug at JD who spent $7500 and another guy Dale who spent $9500!  Imagine if I'd spent that much on stuff..."

I'd spend a lot more time in the doghouse because of my love for little plastic figures...

So, thanks to you guys, I get out of the "hot water" I was previously in and everybody wins!   ;)

OK, with a little help from Pete on some prices, I tallied up all my anticipated 4/2 ROTS purchases, including the stuff I've found early, and I've come up with a new grand total of $1,033.51.  Ouch.  :-X

Breaks down like this:

 :o

Boy, Patty's gonna be pissed.

So far, I've already knocked about $350 off that total on early leaks, so I'm looking at dropping about $680ish tonight...  :-\

So far only $325.00 since Master Replica doesn't charge your card until the items ship.  I have to go back to Target tomorrow and plan on picking up the board games then and probably a few more figures and such.

PS: I really hope people at work aren't sick of M&M's.  I have a lot of wrappers to collect :).

Some observations from my trip to a local Walmart and Target this morning...

* Free Attackix figure at the tent at Walmart
* Though by the time I got to walmart the pickings were slim, they had a pallet full of cases in the garden section. The people there gave me free range to open up the cases and have a look inside. I opened like 10 different figure cases, they only contained up to the first 26 figures.
* Walmart only had the blue Royal Guard, Target only had the red Royal Guard. Quirky eh?
* Target was doing $1.00 off each item at the register, as the cashier would scan a coupon she had for each SW item bought. So if you didn't get that $1 off coupon in the mail, head on over to Target, I believe they're only doing this on Saturday.

Got a total of 14 figures and the ARC-170, way more than I intended, but some of this stuff just rocks!

More thoughts later, the Illini game is coming on soon...

I guess I wasn't lucky then since the Chino Target didn't have a scan card at the checkout line.  THis place suck with handling the Lave Vader too.  We got the coupons at like 740 or so I thought they were suppose to hand them out at 630.  At least I got one.

How much did you guys spend over the weekend??
Go on humour me.
Me i stayed strong and only got 2 red guards for trade thats it.
The stuff didn't do anything for me figure wise , but i have to say walking into a store and seeing starwars like that was really good, and seeing kids getting stuff was even better.
So anyway i spent a measly $26 Aus ( figs were $12.99 at target )
What about you??
Title: Re: How much??

$259.08

It would have been $165 dollars more, but I returned army builders today realizing that I got too caught up in the hype.

I used that money towards my two boys adopting our first family puppy!

Nice, a puppy.  The gift that keeps costing money :P

Well, for today I only picked up four basic figures and one deluxe.  Sadly that ran $62 CAD ::) or about $48 USD.

Last night I ordered four blue guards from TRU.com for $26ish delivered.  Now tell me again why I buy anything in Canada ::)

For the entire release, including what I bought previously it worked out like this:

III-01 Obi-Wan Kenobi x1
III-02 Anakin Skywalker x1
III-05 Chewbacca x1
III-06 Clone Trooper x5
III-09 General Grevious x1
III-10 Mace Windu x1
III-11 Darth Vader x1
III-12 Emperor Palpatine x1
III-14 Chancellor Palpatine x1
III-18 C-3PO x1
III-20 Agen Kolar x1
III-23 Royal Guard x 10 (6 blue, 4 red)
III-25 Tarfful x1
III-37 Tri Droid (Medical Droid) x1
III-39 Polis Massan x1
III-40 Mas Amedda x1

Boga with Obi x1
BARC with pilot x1
Deluxe Anakin/Vader x1

So, 29 regular figures, 1 deluxe, 2 vehicles.  Around $140 based on US pricing, a little more with crappy Canadian prices.

Got 12 free figure boxes from TRU though, that was nice.

So far $31.91 ($14.99 AT-RT, $9.99 Holo Yoda, $4.99 Quickdraw Clone, plus tax).

Then $15.94 of 2002 Saga that I happened upon.

Here's how I faired today...
Guess total = $576.52

Actual Total = $527.44

My total was a bit smaller that I thought -

I saved some on the fact that there were only Figures 1-32 here in MN (that I saw), so it dropped me by 15 figures ($75 or so).  Plus, I got the Target coupon (another $20 savings).

However, I made up part of the the difference by grabbing the Wal-Mart EB Kit...  ::)

I know, I know - I'm a hippocrite because I said I didn't want it but the damn OCD kicked in.  I can always sell it later/return it if I change my mind.  :-\

My guess: $260

$368, so I went over.  I also bought 2 Lava Vaders though and I wasn't planning on them either.  And the Holo Yoda so that was an extra $37

I also bought 2 books that I didn't include but should have I guess.  And that is an extra $36.    So I probably should have counted some of that stuff.  I may also return some of the Jedi I bought tomorrow.  They are great figures but I haven't displayed my Episode I and II stuff for a while and its silly to have extras.  AND I'm cutting back :P

Spent about $120 total, though I bought two of those Clone Wars 3-packs for Dale, so it's a bit inflated.

I'll spend even more next week, when I pick up the Darth Vader case and the Early Bird package, IF it's still in stock at WM.com.

At first my wife said you can spend $100.  My birthday is coming up and mom and dad said they would give me $40.  Well I went for the WM Early Bird set and the 12 inch Ultimate Vader and General Grievous.  I ended up paying $200 almost to the penny alltogether.  The wife let it slide though.  I got most everything I wanted.  Now I can slowly fill in the gaps the rest of the year.

Post by: jokabofe on April 4, 2005, 12:49 AM
Here's what I spent on 4/2 (I didn't make it out for midnite madness... but that's a long story).

Target #1 - $356.77 (AFTER the $1 off each figure coupon AND the extra 10% for opening a Target charge card account  ::) )
Wal*Mart - $198.68
TRU - $130.15
Target #2 - $75.18
Wak*Mart.com (early bird sets THANKS DALE  ;D ) - $70.06
Barnes & Noble - $48.27

Total - $879.11  :o

And to think, I was just supposed to be picking and choosing, and not going overboard. Good thing I didn't. Worst part? For some ungodly reason, I decided it would be a good idea to bring my GF with me... WTF was I thinking?? She didn't bitch too much, but she rolled her eyes every time I put another Clone Trooper in my basket/cart.

And I'm not even done yet, there were a whole bunch of figures I couldn't find. None of the stores I hit had anything higher than #32, and the pickings were slim on #25 - 32 so I'm still missing a few here and there.  Picked up a few of the Unleashed, all the 12", Galactic Heroes, Force Battlers, and a few Deluxe figures. No vehicles what so ever, they will have to be at a later time.

Here is my total and what I picked up.

12" General Grievous
2 X General Grievous Unleashed
2 X Obi-Wan Unleashed
2 X Anakin Unleashed
Call Upon Yoda (I had no desire to get this, but after taking him home I have decided he is awesome)

Total $147.07 with tax from Wal-Mart

I still hope to get a Lava Vader & Holographic Yoda, but the nearest TRU & Target are an hour away.   :-\

Mine was about $600.  Picked up a couple extra of each of the exclusives for some friends, so technically that doesn't count against my total.  Passed on the larger ships though, to pick up next week with a couple Holo Yodas.

Didn't see Battle Arenes anywhere but KB, so I passed on all of those for now too, saving myself another $120+.  Only other thing I didn't see was the AT-RT, and figures #37-40.  Otherwise, I picked up everything I was planning too, plus some extra exlusives, like WM's diecast ships and Targets Micro vehicles and a couple cup sets.

Refrained from all the books and such as well.  Too spoiler laden, and I don't have the will power to buy them and not look through/read them.  I'll get those next month though.  Fun times though.  Fun times.

My guess was $1351.28

Some things I had listed in my guess didn't come out, but I also didn't need the Deluxe figures (found them early) and I was able to get my figures for $4.99 from Target, $5.29 from TRU and $5.24 from WalMart - so the price of $5.99 was off.....Ok so without further pontificating, here are my totals:

TRU: $644.34
WalMart: $163.51
Target: $348.80
KB Toys: $116.56

Total: $1273.21

In case anyone is curious, here is the breakdown of what I bought:

I don't think I left anything out, I completed this list from memory, while the total $$$ spent came straight from the bottom of receipts...

Does this mean I'm in the running to be crowned the "winner"?  ;D

Actual Total = $527.44

Since I took my reciept to Target totday to get a price adjustment, I can knock $53.14 off the total!

Actual Total = $474.30  Woo-Hoo!

Nice, a puppy.  The gift that keeps costing money :P

Well, for today I only picked up four basic figures and one deluxe.  Sadly that ran $62 CAD ::) or about $48 USD.

Last night I ordered four blue guards from TRU.com for $26ish delivered.  Now tell me again why I buy anything in Canada ::)

For the entire release, including what I bought previously it worked out like this:

III-01 Obi-Wan Kenobi x1
III-02 Anakin Skywalker x1
III-05 Chewbacca x1
III-06 Clone Trooper x5
III-09 General Grevious x1
III-10 Mace Windu x1
III-11 Darth Vader x1
III-12 Emperor Palpatine x1
III-14 Chancellor Palpatine x1
III-18 C-3PO x1
III-20 Agen Kolar x1
III-23 Royal Guard x 10 (6 2 blue, 4 red)
III-25 Tarfful x1
III-37 Tri Droid (Medical Droid) x1
III-39 Polis Massan x1
III-40 Mas Amedda x1

Boga with Obi x1
BARC with pilot x1
Deluxe Anakin/Vader x1

So, 29 regular figures, 1 deluxe, 2 vehicles.  Around $140 based on US pricing, a little more with crappy Canadian prices.

Got 12 free figure boxes from TRU though, that was nice.

Modified ::)  Amazon overfilled their orders, what a shock ::) No blue guards for me from them, so I'm down to two and knock $25-ish off my total.  Thanks again to Paul (pmundheim) for helping out with those 2 you got for me :)

I could probably add the shipping cost of the trade for the Target Vader from DBK for my red ARC (Thanks Matt).  I could also probably add the stuff Beth got me and Matt's Walmart "paper" but I'll wait until I have totals to see if there's any shipping.

Here's my totals for the weekend:

27 Basic Figures @ $5.24 each=$141.48
3 Unleashed Figures @ $14.88 each=$44.64
3 Sets Galactic Heroes @ $4.79 each=$14.37
2 Target Cup and Figure Sets @ $9.99each=$19.98
Boga w/Obi Wan, BARC Speeder @ $14.86 each=$29.72
Obi-Wan's Starfighter=$19.86
ARC 170 Starfighter=$29.99
Wal-Mart Early Bird Exclusive=$29.96

Weekend Total=Approx. $330.00

Easily the most I've spent in a day, and actually, the most I've spent in a month (and its just the beginning!).  I've been saving up, but I still got a bit of a pit in my stomach paying that much at once...for toys :P.
