Saga Collection '06 / Re: What figures do you display twice?
« on: February 25, 2006, 06:55 AM »
I've been known to display astromechs twice if they're listed as being seen in multiple places.  Like one on the streets of Mos Eisley that showed up in the rebel hangar or some such...

I display multiples of army builders almost routinely.  2 Royal Guards flanking Palpatine for instance, as I have none of my outrageous armies displayed but a double-up is cool.

I was just writing up my Veers digs actually and while I really actually loathe the Veers figure in several levels, I do think there's some justification for displaying two if that's your gig.

Same with the Gonk droid...  In the hangar he's got a very similar version of himself behind him sans head port things.  He could be bought a 2nd time and displayed without his attachments and look pretty spiffy.

C-3PO Removable Limbs could be built and also in the bag riding on Chewbacca...

Do the 3 head variants of the Fleet Trooper and Imp Officer count too? :)  Or the Blue & Brown coat Han Solo Hoth figures?

OOOOOOooo  Blue/Brown debate...  That brings back some good memories.

I noticed on ebay that the AT-ST will be singly packed as well, so there seems to be a trend towards vehicles coming in this line.  I believe the retail price for the AT-ST alone will be lower than a booster pack, or thereabouts.  No sense throwing money away on random crap.

Damn you Brent, read the front page! :)  I had a good story that's pushed down or in the archives now, but I just posted it like a couple weeks ago and it highlights some of what's coming.

I posted on that AT-ST back in September too with a pic and a comparison pic of it with the old AT-ST too earlier this month.  It's got a blast effect on the guns and a slight pose and paint difference.  Pretty cool looking though and better than the Huge one IMO.

There's a Snowspeeder coming to battle the AT-AT...  Lots of good stuff.

Here's the Story

There's the story...  Number of cool things.  Makes me wanna get into this but I know I can't afford it.

And I'm just gonna polish this off with a lockaroo because it's irrelevant and not worth other discussion.

He had a blaster too I guess...  The one the POTF2 figure had was the proper basic shape/look of it, but I guess you couldn't see it.  I don't remember him with the staff, I gotta watch ROTJ again.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Anyone Into Monkeys?
« on: February 23, 2006, 06:30 PM »
I'd ask if anyone's into primates but it doesn't sound as funny.  I knew the difference in monkeys and apes though...

My "monkey" fandom extends to animals with some similar traits and characteristics, like lemurs for instance, or a 3 toed sloth even.  Similar in a way, but not...

If it's monkey-ish I dig it generally.

Got my woman a great hand puppet monkey at TRU that screams.  I hid her Valentine's gift in it, but really the monkey was just great.  I didn't want to give it to her actually.

That was simply great.  :)  Thanks for the link Dean, it's about as original a BrokeBack Mountain joke as I've seen...  It was funny and good spirited, I had a laugh, so thanks.

So I'm bumping this up...  What's the news on this?  You guys all burned out on Miniatures?

If you read a couple weeks ago, there's a spiffy little story by this hot reporter guy at JD *wink wink* dishing out the goods on what's up and coming with the Star Wars Miniatures line...

Can you say Snowspeeder?  I knew ya could!

And lots and lots more of miniature goodness...

I'm shocked at the slowness of this thread now though.  Used to be booming.

Matt, where the hell are you? :)

Modern Classifieds / Re: DVDs and Video Games for Sale
« on: February 23, 2006, 07:38 AM »
Hey Jason...

Jason is a good guy in our local Pitt group.  I don't know if the others will want to move your thread to the classifieds or not Jason, they'll handle that later in the day when they're on I'm sure if they think it's better there or in our DVD thread or whatever...

I will say I was looking at the list of stuff Jason's unloading and it's on the cheap.  I have thought of picking some of it up myself but I'm strapped right now, so I won't move the thread or anything right now.  If the others move it or something then there's no big deal really though.

Welcome to JD there Jason, you should look around...  I think you'll find this place is pretty good to get into some good adult collector POV's on the hobby overall.  Lots of traffic with some "old timers" in the hobby so it's a good place to set up shop, glad to see you came by and I hope you stick around man.

I want this thing soooooo badly.  :(

I got hooked on these damn things at C3 and now there's certain ones I'm just having to have in a display, and Maul's is a priority.  This is gonna kill me for a month if I buy this, ugh.

Target's done away with pricematching too which blows quite simply.  I'd have pricematched galore on customs crap at the local Target for $5, but their policies with toys are frustrating at best.

Yeah I keep hoping to find council sets for cheap so I can get a full circle of seats.  It's all I want honestly...  The figures are ok fodder though, but around here the sets haven't even budged in price.  :(

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Bail Organa's Stand... Was There More To Come?
« on: February 23, 2006, 03:57 AM »
Yeah I thought Wat's might connect to the Geo Screen Scenes but they wound up having no base...  The Wat one DOES connect to the Arena in some fashion though, I thought...  doesn't it?  I thought someone had pics of that somewhere I dunno.

The Bail one almost makes you think something was planned but scrapped.  Like there were more Senators to come with goofy stands to lock onto Bail's but I dunno.

It doens't lock to anything though Ryan, not that I can see.  Not even itself...  It's like there was  a plan that got axed.

The Wedding Padme one is ok but really a gentle arch instead of the sharp one would have been nice and actually accurate.  It's a cool base but not accurate that's for sure.

Toy Reviews / Re: New JD Review - TSC Bib Fortuna
« on: February 23, 2006, 02:09 AM »
I'm back...  Thanks to Jeff for handling my responsibilities here, I appreciate it.

Well, my thoughts on Bib aren't quite as harsh as Tray...  :)

I think he was a figure that, ultimately, needed a resculpt pretty bad and Hasbro delivered an improvement overall.  But is he great?  Does he set new standards?  Does he really rank up with great "Senator-ish" figures like the ROTS Mas Ameda?

Not by a long shot...  The robe's incredibly limiting to his arm articulation, but Hasbro could easily have done better with this figure's arms than they gave, and that hurts it...  The face sculpt's not winning many fans either, and with it not really looking a whole lot better (at all really) than the POTF2 sculpt, then there's an easy negative really...  I didn't mind the face terribly but it could be mmore accurate and less "expressive"...

I can't rate this figure as highly negative because it didn't have a staff...  Fortuna didn't run with the staff a lot in the movie really, the dagger's accurate to him albeit a tiny speck of a point, and really that's cool enough for me but yeah a staff wouldn't have HURT...  It'd have required a new sculpt though, that's always somewhat an issue.  I think a new pistol (they have that sculpted) and perhaps the staff would have made the figure more interesting but I'd have given every accessory back for a figure that took more poses...  The way I figure is I can get a vinty repro staff and just pass it off to the new fig.

At the end of the day, I bought Bib to fill a hole I felt was there in the collection...  The old sculpt didn't hold up, and the new sculpt's 10x better overall but you get a figure you really don't care much about, and you'll not pick up again once you put it on display unless you're cleaning that shelf.  It's just not an interesting figure...  Could it have been?  Arms that had shoulder joints plus the articulation he has currently, and maybe some extra accessories woudl have helped, but at the end of the day this guy was still gonna suck and pegwarm.

Around me, Bib and Leia Boussh are the pegwarmer's of the wave...  Han would be runner-up if it weren't for his obvious customizing potential.  Bib and Leia are all you see in many Wal-Mart and Toys R Us stores though.   ::)
