If you send me the location of the McDonald's closest to you, I'll have them send over some burgers ASAP.

One of these days I'm gonna take you guys up on all the McDonald's bull**** you give me. I'm gonna post a video of myself eating Quarter Pounder after Quarter Pounder after Quarter Pounder, and by the end it'll be so nasty and disgusting that you guys won't even be able to think about Mickey D's without throwing up in your mouth a little. (Just for a visual reference, I'm picturing the Lard Ass scene from Stand By Me here.)

You people act like you just can't pick up an NES on ebay and mod it for better video. You can do that or buy a clone or emulate it. I saw no reason for a mini NES with so many other alternatives.  If you have money burning a hole in your wallet, you can buy an Analogue NT mini with full HDMI and play games in 1080p.

Many casual users don't want--if they even know how--to mess with mods, emulators, ROMs, and any of that other ****. That's a big part of the appeal of the NES Classic. It's a really simple, plug-and-play, (theoretically) inexpensive way to play a bunch of games people remember from growing up. And all that without any of the moral/legal issues that come with emulators and ROMs.

And let's also not forget just how goddamn adorable it is. Nostalgia's a helluva drug.

For $449? You could almost buy two NES Classics on eBay for that!

. . .is a thing that is happening. Trailer officially releases this weekend, but it already kind of leaked today. Looks like it will cover all three trilogy eras.

So this Xbox Gamer Pass is basically what Nintendo is doing with the Switch, where you get access to different demos every month? Pretty lame. I'll stick to just buying 2-3 games a year or staying 6 months behind and getting everything for a discount.

They're not demos. They're full games. And as long as you're paying the $10/month to subscribe, you can play them whenever you want.

...

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is now available through backwards-compatibility. People have been giving Xbox all kinds of "where is this game" **** for months and months, so it's nice to finally have this one out of the way.

Other games added to BC since last time.  Some good stuff in there.

  • Army of Two
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Assassin's Creed Rogue
  • Borderlands 2
  • Cars 2 The Video Game
  • Darksiders
  • Darksiders 2
  • Daytona USA
  • Dead Rising 2: Case West
  • Dead Rising 2: Case Zero
  • Far Cry 3
  • Gyromancer
  • Hitman: Absolution
  • Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
  • The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match
  • Luxor 2 (Ed. note: **** this game.)
  • Madballs in Babo: Invasion
  • Meet the Robinsons
  • Moon Diver
  • Poker Smash
  • Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
  • Soltrio Solitaire
  • Space Invaders Infinity Gene
  • Stacking
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Tower Bloxx Deluxe

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is now free for Gold members through the end of the month. It's backwards-compatible on Xbox One.

Today's the last day for Gold members to get TFU for free.

Microsoft Unveils $10 Monthly Gaming Subscription Service For Xbox One

Coming this spring to the Xbox One, the Xbox Game Pass will give console owners access to over 100 Xbox One and backwards compatible games for $9.99 a month.

The Xbox Game Pass is not a streaming service, like PlayStation Now, but a game download subscription along the lines of EA Access. Subscribers who pay the $9.99 monthly fee will be able to choose from games like Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and SoulCalibur II (examples given in Microsoft’s official announcement,) downloading them directly to their system and playing them as if they were purchased digitally. Subscribers will be able to purchase the games in the catalog at a discount (20 percent off games, 10 percent off add-ons,) adding them permanently to their Xbox library.

The Xbox Game Pass will start rolling out today to select members of the Xbox Insider program today, with plans to launch exclusively for Xbox Live Gold subscribers before going live for all Xbox One owners this spring.

Thanks, Justin! Cousins was so horrible in the first half I went to bed in the third quarter thinking I was done for.  Wow. Can't believe I pulled that off.

It's been a fun season. Good luck to Brent this weekend.

Lost Odyssey is free for everyone through the 31st. You should be able to access it on your Xbox One console. You can also access it through Xbox.com.

You do need an Xbox LIVE Gold account for the Games with Gold program mentioned in that quote. That gives you several different free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games (which are all BC) each month.

Xbox offers a free game to celebrate 300 backward-compatible titles

    Quote
Xbox is celebrating the addition of the three BioShock games to the Xbox One's backward compatibility catalog by offering one for free to everyone: Lost Odyssey.

Larry Hryb, better known as Xbox Live's Major Nelson, tweeted out the offer this afternoon. Lost Odyssey will be available for free until Dec. 31. Additionally, the JRPG Blue Dragon also is available for purchase online. Previously the two titles had been backward-compatible only by putting the original Xbox 360 disc in the tray.

Yesterday, Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, noted that nearly half of all Xbox One owners use the console to play backward-compatible games. The feature launched in November 2015, and since then all of the games offered for Xbox 360 in the Games With Gold program have been backward-compatible titles.

What an absolute cluster**** of epic proportions Nintendo pulled on this one...seriously think of how many units they could have sold...what a bunch of idiots

I almost bumped this thread yesterday due to this quote from Reggie at Nintendo in a story at CNET:

    Quote
Fils-Aime acknowledged the NES Classic shortages. "Every day there's more going into the retail channel. The overall level of demand is certainly greater than we anticipated, that's why we're suffering through the shortages out there in the marketplace."

Hard to gauge demand when they refused to take any preorders on this thing at all.

    Quote
On the Mini NES, he says, "We saw the NES Classic as an opportunity to engage with millennials, gen-Xers, boomers, people who had played those games back in the day, but life had gone by, and they had somewhat walked away from gaming. It was a great way to re-engage them, and our belief is that by re-engaging them, it creates an opportunity for Super Mario Run, it creates an opportunity for our 3DS business, it creates an opportunity for Nintendo Switch, because all of a sudden they're recognizing what they knew 20 or 25 years ago: they love Mario. They love Zelda. They love all of our classic IP, and they're re-engaging with it right now."

Hard to engage with it unless you've got $200+ to spend on one on eBay, or unless you want to spend hours and hours waiting outside of a store in the middle of the night. . .

The BioShock games probably won't ever be made BC. They were announced late last year, but apparently 2K was already in the middle of porting them to the current consoles, and why would you give people the old games for free when you can sell them new "remastered" versions instead? So the Xbox 360 versions are kind of stuck in BC limbo.

Anyway, be sure to check out BioShock: The Collection for Xbox One, available at a retailer near you, for $49.99.
