1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: 12" Nute Gunray
« on: March 1, 2004, 07:27 PM »
This was, as previously posted, supposed to have been part of the last two waves of Episode I 12" dolls in the spring of 2000.  Unfortunately, they dropped Ody Mandrell in favor of Pilot Anakin and Nute and Palpy were dropped completely.  I remember seeing a prototype head of Ody a few years ago but I've yet to see the first bit of photographic evidence on either Nute or Palpy.  Pity, too, as Palpatine has become my favorite character due to the prequel trilogy so far.  Has anyone ever seen photos of these two toys, prototype, painted sample, finished sample, etc?

Power of the Force 2 / Re: Opinions on Rebo Band and Rancor
« on: March 1, 2004, 07:19 PM »
Kind of off-topic, but I just wanted to prepare myself for this, as it seems to be widespread among the population here: is there anything that can be done to tighten the Rancor's joints once they start to loosen?  I've had mine posed on a shelf in the crouching position grabbing at Luke since I got it, so all of its forward weight has been balanced on one of the claws.  All this talk about joint loosening though has me nervous, so I was curious if anyone knew of any preventative measures to take care of it.

As for the Rebo Band two-packs, I thought that the Droopy/D'an and Max/Doda two packs were really nice.  For some reason though, the plastic on the Joh Yowza figure just seemed really cheap to me; it didn't seem to have much weight to it at all and seemed poorly sculpted in comparison to the other Rebo figures.  Sy was okay, but I'd have preferred the OOT version over the SE version myself.  "Lapti Nek" forever! :)

That being said, I'm also curious to know how distro was in everyone's areas on the Rebo band packs.  Where I was at the time was overrun with the Sy/Joh and Droopy/D'an packs and we never saw the Max/Doda pack at all within a 100 mile radius.  I ended up having to buy them (thankfully at cost) from someone on rasscm back in the day, but to this day I've never seen one at retail.  I was just curious if everyone else had this same difficulty.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Did Obi-Wan spot Jango's Armor?
« on: March 1, 2004, 03:31 PM »
I always got the impression that Obi-Wan *suspected* it was the same guy but wasn't sure until Jango started to be evasive with his questions.  I watched the film last night and there is a moment where Obi-Wan visibly leans to his left to look over Jango's shoulder at the armor, but Jango actually moves out of the way to give Obi-Wan a better look before telling Boba to shut the door.  Odd.

That said, another thing I noticed (or didn't notice, as the case may be) was that the shot of Jango flying off into the sky after he "darts" Zam in the alley is very quick and very blurry.  All I can make out personally is an indistinct blob with rocket trails moving up.  Even with Jedi powers, I doubt Obi-Wan's eyesight is good enough to make out more than a silver and blue blur flying away at night.

So, I guess where I'm going with this is to agree with P'dubs.  Obi-Wan wasn't sure but put two and two together after Jango started answering questions with cryptic answers.  The armor only helped him come to that conclusion, I suppose.

My main question (and one that Ben Burtt actually does bring up in the commentary track) is where Obi-Wan was supposed to put Jango on the way back to Coruscant had he captured him.  I guess he'd just put a gasmask on him and strap him to the hood of the Jedi Starfighter or something. :)

Newbies / Greetings and Salutations!
« on: March 1, 2004, 01:06 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself to the population here at JD after lurking for a few weeks and finally registering about five minutes ago.

Anyway, I'm Mike, and I've been a SW fan/collector for most of my life.  While I've not been terribly active on any of the WWW forums, I do have a long history of posting to the various SW collecting Usenet groups (since around 1996) so while I'm a newbie, I guess I'm not in other ways. :)

I guess I'm one of the influx of people that are tired of the way other forums handle things and wanted to hang out somewhere that actually seemed to care about the community it established.  I had registered at this other site a long time ago but never broke 45 posts because I just didn't feel comfortable.  Recent events have just made me feel even less so there.  So, I'm just here to read everyone's thoughts, maybe post once in a blue moon, and above all have a good time talking with like-minded people.

So, I guess this is my hello to all of you!
