Tonight while watching the TWolves win again (sigh) I somehow hit 444 on the remote and up pops the NBA League Pass, San Antonio versus Milwaukee...now Comcast might be running some sort of League Pass special right now but I've been enjoying the heck out of free NBA basketball all night! Lets hope this keeps up..sadly none of the other "Premium

nudge nudge" Channels are unlocked

I, when I was a wee lad, got showtime for free for some time... Years actually. And it was good...

Years later, HBO and Skinemax came in for free on our entire road... The Cable company knew, but were lax to do anything about it because I guess it was going to cost them more to fix it than it was worth bothering with.

Then the dark times came... Comcast came and took over.

I lost HBO and Skinemax when they ran digital fiberoptic lines out my road... The upside is I have Highspeed internet and digital cable. The downside is HBO and Skinemax cost a LOT to get, and I don't wanna be without them after being spoiled for so long.

Seriously, the first apartment we moved in to, the previous renters forgot to call the cable company to cancel their subscription. I didn't know this of course, but for ***** and giggles I plugged the cable wire into the TV and voila, crystal clear images. For the three years we lived there I never wrote a check for cable. And I didn't call to cancel it either, so for all I know, everyone who has lived in that apartment is getting free cable.

In college, my roommate had a black box, so alls we paid for was basic but got everything (and I mean everything

) else for free.

When my wife and I got our first apartment around 10 years ago, all the cable for the apartment complex ran through the back of bedroom closet. So after making a quick trip to Radioshack, I spliced the cable and continued to have free cable til we moved 1.5 years later.

After going without cable for 2 years(didn't go where I lived) on a whim I plugged it into the TV when we moved into our first house.

Man alive - I was in heaven. Well a couple weeks later they shut it off...

When I called to see how much it would cost out there, they wanted some astronimical amount.

I said screw it and got a dish (all legal) for half the price and 3 x the amount of channels!

Also, once time when I was younger I got free porn one morning! I used to get up at 3 AM to go to work, and happened to flip on the TV.

Never happened again though... still checked every morning.

I used to catch the occasional free week of HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax at our previous place. But now we pretty much pay for all those, so no freebies left to be had. Would be nice if the Playboy channel ran free specials from time to time as well though... Might convince me to sign up!

I've got a buddy that's had one of those illegal cable boxes, and has been getting EVERYTHING (yes, everything) for free for about 10 years. Lucky bastard! He offered me one as well, but I was too much of a chicken $h!t to accept it. Probably a smart move on my part (hopefully)... $:-\$

Smart move Matt on avoiding the illegal boxes. They will eventually catch up with you. About 6 people just got nailed where I work. They traced all sales through the seller. One of the people is a really good friend of mine and he settled out of court. The cost?
$5000. It was either that, or get a lawyer and go to court, where he would of been facing a $50,000 fine and jail time. Pricey for a first time offender IMO. I got rid of mine a few years back. Another friend of mine who works for the cable company, gave me the scoop on a crackdown in my area. Trust me, when the cable company accuses you, they have you by the nuts. Everything is traced, recorded and stands up in court.

I had heard the Cable company every now and then will go through neighborhoods with some sort of infrared gun and they will be able to tell if you have a black box or not, not sure if that's urban legend or not
