Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A thread about concerts.
« on: August 27, 2014, 02:19 PM »
Haven't posted in this thread since 2012, but of course I've been attending live music on a regular basis.

Most recently the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, with awesome performances by Sabbath, AiC, BLS, Zombie, Sepultura (man, Andreas Kisser hasn't aged a day  ;D ), Mastodon and Ghost.. Limp Bizkit was a big disappointment.

Last week Machine Head, their only club show in Holland this year, until it was announced a few days ago, that they'd be back in another town in December. Hard to believe they've been at it for 22 years! They totally tore up the insanly hot venue.

This Sunday I'll go to X-Rock in Germany. Guess who's playing? Machine ******' Head  ;D Also Amon Amarth, Life of Agony and Airbourne, plus a couple of others.

Let Freedom Ring with a Shotgun Blast!

Nice, I'm so jealous of your huge outdoor metal shows! Graspop, Dynamo, F--- Commerce Festival, etc. Metal is alive and well abroad!

Glad Andreas Kisser is aging well, have they gotten their heads out of their collective arses and gotten Max and Igor back yet though?

Shocked to hear Limp Bizkit disappointed.  :D

I picked up 4/6 Terminator figures at TRU today, no sign of Reese or Sarah. I asked and that was all they got so not sure about the case assortments there. Great figures though, really enjoying these.

With the 6" logjam around here, I finally broke down and placed an online order for 2X Anakins and 3X Clone Troopers. Even with shipping it came to less than I would have paid at retail anyway.  :)

Vintage Kenner / Re: Toy Tony carded figures.

His technique for sealing the bubbles to the card improved over time, but the earlier efforts should have been easy to spot from the visible iron marks around the edges of the bubble. Yes, he actually used an iron to heat seal the bubbles to the cards.  ::)

There are numerous photos in that thread that are pretty obvious fakes; you'd think an organization billing itself as an "authority" would have spotted those pretty easily.  ::)

Even the later ones can be identified using some deductive logic and a fine eye for detail, the guys over at RS had some really well informed analysis.

6" Peg Warming in St. Louis: Slave Leia, Greedo, Han, Obi-Wan and Bespin Luke...  4" Peg Warmers: Nothing in most places as there aren't any pegs for them.

This is the exact same as around here. I would feel compelled to make some kind of insinuation about human characters not being as appealing as the other figures, but Greedo messes up that theory.

Yes, it was a pretty deplorable yet fascinating debacle to watch as it unfolded. I eventually gave up and stopped paying attention...mostly because I am not a carded collector, but also because some of the opinions that started to come out in that thread were pretty appalling IMO. (Like the mindset that these fakes were "essentially as good" as real ones since they used all the same vintage cards and bubbles, and the idea that somehow AFA was not liable for their gross negligence in not identifying these as clear fakes when they had multiple opportunities to do so)

Those things are worthless IMO and I really feel badly for anyone who lost money on them. And I agree AFA can suck it, I don't see how anyone can take them seriously after such a string of recurring blunders.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Deluxe Line

Can't find this speeder bike anywhere. Are you guys still finding them?

Not at all around here. In predictable Target fashion, they only bothered to order 1 measley case, and when that sold out right away they failed to order any more. No idea how long it will take them to eventually re-stock these.

1. Order product
2. Sell product
3. Order more product

It's not rocket science!  :D

No more Obi-Wans for awhile please. There is still a major glut of them around here. The others will all be hot sellers.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I actually kind of like the idea of an Imperial Civil War, if for no other reason than an excuse to get chrome stormtroopers! But that sort of scenario to me would have made a lot more sense 2-3 years out from Jedi maybe, not 30.

Really, I guess I just feel like it detracts from the "ultimate happy ending" fantasy in my head where the people all rose up right after ROTJ and the Imperial machinery was dismantled overnight. The Republic was restored and their was a golden age of peace and prosperity free of Sith, Imperials, and Vong.  :P Childishly naive maybe, but I was seeing the movie as a kid after all.

I also feel like it's kind of a been there done that type of thing where I was hoping for something less derivative of the first movies. But that's not to say they can't make it all work marvelously. They've hit all the right notes to this point anyway.

I received the Snake Plissken figures I ordered online today, unpunched and with solid paint apps. Can't wait for the Duke figure!  :)

I think I'm down for all the Predators and probably the Terminator stuff as well. Pulp Fiction is a maybe, but beyond that probably not too much.

LOL, not MY EU books! I hate that garbage...pure fan fiction, IMO.

But the CW cartoon stuff was all brilliant!  ???

LOL, touche!  :-X

Given that Disney doesn't care what your EU books say, shouldn't we wait to see the movie before we declare that the Empire's been gone for 30 years?

LOL, not MY EU books! I hate that garbage...pure fan fiction, IMO.

I'm not trying to jump to conclusions either, I just always felt like ROTJ was the ultimate happy ending, and that this was the end of the Empire and the new movies would focus on a different kind of threat.

That's not to say it can't be done right, just not what my personal preference would have been.

Meh, IMO there shouldn't even be Stormtroopers of any fashion 30 years after the fall of the Empire. (That'd be like having Nazis in full regalia running around in the 70's. Evil Empires disappear quickly) I kinda wish they would go in a different direction, like a Sith Army or something.

I didn't realize how much spoilerage I had missed already. Luke is now in captivity? His lightsaber floating through space is the opening shot? Huh???

Went ahead and pre-ordered the 18" Battle-Damaged Gypsy Danger with light up Plasma Cannon Arm from TRU...looks like it should be shipping in the next month or so.

Still excited to see Cherno Alpha in this scale...hopefully up next :)

Whoa, is this the Bridge Direct Smaug that was teased @ ToyFair? Or something totally different?

For 1&1/2" they might be able to squeeze in one of the shorter dwarfs maybe?
