Title: Anyone Into Monkeys?

Anyone else into them?

I got some fine monkey items for Christmas actually.  Among
them includes:

-Monkey Bobblehead from Aeropostale
-Painting of Curious George (who is painting)
-Monkey Boxers

And I gave my significant other a nice monkey as her opening Christmas Gift to start off the evening.

What say you...  Monkey fan or not?

Another favorite shot of mine.  I think the suit makes the monkey btw.

Smoking Monkeys simply rock.

I believe GH has some type of fixation on them...   :P

Akin to the old days with our beloved llamas, anyway.

Personally, no.  Monkeys don't do much for me, though their antics and playing dress up for TV are often quite amusing.  As well as watching them screw at the zoo, which I unfortunately haven't been priveleged to observe in many years now...

Man, I need to go to bed.   ::)

Thanks HMI, I like you too...

Wait, you meant the monkeys.  I apologize profusely then.

Bah, they may enjoy monkeys, but I originated the fascination with our lesser cousins.
I have lead the way in monkey fandom for decades, even though I'm only 27.  I still
did it in spirit when I was merely a gleam in my father's eye.

To that end, we need them not as mascots, but only to acknowledge they are full of fuzzy
greatness that we all may enjoy no matter our age.

Oh and GH calls them monkeTs, which really is a whole other
"thing" with them.  :)

They're ok, I was a big fan of curious George growing up.  But not so much now, though I bear them no ill will.

I did meet a local Star Wars collector because of Monkeys though.  I was selling off my McFarlane collector club Monkeys (from the Twisted Oz series) and he was ecstatic to find them locally.  Big, big fan of all things monkey.

This is but take away the bucket he's on and stuff.  He's just painting.

I don't know if it's a painting or what...  It's 1 in a series of 4, and she
won't tell me where the other 3 are so she can have something to get me
for gifts because she says I'm hard to buy for.

I suppose when almost all you want is stuff only YOU know you can find
and when you usually do find it yourself quickly, then yeah you're hard to
buy for.

Anyone into monkeys?

I got one of these for X-Mas:

Fabulous, isn't it?  Mine comes complete with fez hat and red vest as well, and hopefully soon a small stocking cap and sneaky pierre hat as well.  Home made too, with lots of love and care.

I also got a great Curious George plush:

It's similar to this, but about 1/4 the size.

A fantastic holiday season for the primates I must say...  Anyone else get any monkey stuff?  I had one of my smoking monkeys puffing away the other night.  Man I can't get enough of those.

When I first read about this on the Christmas Hauls thread I thought "he's gotta post pics".  Please, oh please, I must see the monkey in the fez ;D

I have always liked that mischievous little fellow. :D   Hoping the film will do him justice. :-\

I've always liked monkeys. In fact, when I was younger I wanted to be a zoologist and focus on primates. When I get older, I plan on having a caupuchin monkey as a pet.

I'm an animal fan in general, but the monkey is the one, great exception. I do not like them. I wouldn't put it past one of the little creeps to crawl through a window, find a knife, and stab me in my sleep.

Tami,

I actually have the male pajama pants with sock monkeys on them.  They're fa-bu-lous.

That sock monkey photo is a "vintage style" one, however there's a number of places make them in modern styles and I've seen all kinds of sock animals and/or monsters too, but monkeys are the originators.  My mother has a pic of her mother holding a sock monkey she made for my uncle many moons ago.  MOre or less, sock monkeys were a cheap hand-made toy that was made of these specific red-toe socks (usually worn by laborers/outdoor workers).  My mother made mine this year, it's sort of in the traditional sense of being simple and cheap looking whereas I've seen some elaborate ones.  I like the simplicity of mine with just button eyes and not much to it.

I had one as a child that was a hand-me-down from my brother but I don't know what happened to it.  I Know you can get really old ones, but they're not a brand so much as just a random thing you can make yourself if you find the socks and a pattern.

They even make mini ones made from real mini-socks that are just like 1/6 scale socks.  I have a mini one hanging in my car actually, and it's hysterical to look at really.  I've seen the mini socks you can buy online.

I gotta get another pair of socks though because my mother said she'd make the sweater and stocking cap for my sock monkey that you could do if you had 2 pairs of socks.  That's the deluxe model I guess.

BTW Bill, you need not give "favors" to them to enjoy monkeys.  THat's only if you REALLY enjoy monkeys, and really that's just wrong....  but it covers why Paris Hilton has one.

So JJ,

Did you get a chance to catch the Curious George movie yet?

I think I might end up taking the nephews this weekend, just wondering if it's got your monkey stamp of approval?

Also, have you picked up any of the Toy Biz Curious George movie toys yet?  I kinda dig this "monkey in space" set:

I've got a bunch of monkey stuff. I have the obligitory See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil sculpture. Got this great plush monkey (http://secure.giantrobot.com/products.php?code=GTMS) at Comic-Con.

It's from the guy who illustrated "Everyone Poops". That and the fact that it's plush but has an uncanny ability to stand up sold me on it. :D I have some of those long-limbed plush monkeys with velcro hands/feet hanging on the clothes hooks on my closet door. I usually always get some kind of monkey on holidays. :) There's a little wind-up monkey (http://www.funkyzilla.com/acatalog/Wind-up-monkey-hr.jpg) on my desk. My mom gave me this little knick knack thingy (http://www.gocollect.com/catalog/product.aspx?id=110028&kbid=1607&bnrid=feed&img=feed). Oh, I have these great "Evolution of Man (http://www.mzoo.com/bl58381.htm)" PVCs too. They're ape-like... ;D

Oh yeah, I have these too.

I have NOT gone to see the new Curious George movie, and actually I'm a little disappointed in the animation.  CG got an updated look and I'm not totally fond of it really...  I like the simpler animation style he'd had since really his first designs.  I have some paintings of Curious George actually because I've always appreciated the sort of simplistic way he was drawn.

The new toon looks good for kids but not very heavy with adult humor like say Toy Story, so I'm not sure I'll be going to watch it anytime soon.  I don't have young kids to take who maybe would enjoy it I think...

On CG animation stuff, I happen to have some VHS's I was bought a while back of Curious George in stop-motion claymation type animation.  Very weird, and I've never seen them anywhere for sale.  I got them as a birthday gift some years ago.  They're pretty cool...  Truer to the books I'd say, and they really capture Curious George's look perfectly.

On another monkey note, I am highly enjoying the "Career Builder.com" commercials out there where the guy works with a bunch of primates.  The best one is where they are partying to "Come on feel the noise" from Quiet Riot in the board room because they thing sales are up...  The boss is lighting a cigar with money, it's great (if you haven't already seen it) and then the guy (human) comes in and tells the chimps sales are actually down and he puts the graph they have rightside up...  But like Enron execs they turn it back around to where it was and continue partying and the boss demands that the guy dance with the other chimps.

That's just a classic commercial...  I laugh harder every time I see it I think. :)

There's a whole series of those that are really funny though.

For the record, Curious George is NOT a monkey.

Monkeys have tails, among other identifying characteristics, that set them apart from apes.

CJ is representative of a chimpanzee, which is one of the three great apes (of which gorillas and humans are the other two).

I liked 'monkeys' enough that my university degree was heavily involved in the ancient history of them. ;)

I know I hate that.....so, by the flip side of that token I don't mind 'acting like an animal' around my wife either(farting, burping, picking nose, eating like a greedy pig, ball scratching, ect.).

Well, at least I  don't mind anyway. I swear next time, she gives me flak for doing one of the above and her or her Mother calls me an animal I'll just point at them, call em' hypocrites because they're 'nitpicking like animals' and leave it there(of course they're always right still ::))

But thanks though for fueling my Ire today!!! I can Use this...thanks. Hmmm... It's a sunny day, think I'll wear my wife beater tank top >:( 8) ;D

I'd ask if anyone's into primates but it doesn't sound as funny.  I knew the difference in monkeys and apes though...

My "monkey" fandom extends to animals with some similar traits and characteristics, like lemurs for instance, or a 3 toed sloth even.  Similar in a way, but not...

If it's monkey-ish I dig it generally.

Got my woman a great hand puppet monkey at TRU that screams.  I hid her Valentine's gift in it, but really the monkey was just great.  I didn't want to give it to her actually.

I just saw a pretty funny show on the National Geographic channel. I only caught the end of it, but when I tuned in there was a group of monkeys playing at a water hole. They were swinging form the branches and vines and jumping into the water. Then they were swimming around.

They right at the end they found some moonshine some of the locals had left out and it was drunken monkey time. :D

BOOYAH!

I must have those though...  The benefits (and somehow downfalls as well) of not having much of a life.  By the way, this thread has become incredibly helpful for myself.  I'd never have known about those as I don't really look at the sheets at Target much.  Thank you very much for the head's up Tracy.  I'm off to get these tomorrow after the show if they're cheap enough.

And in related monkey news I got yet another sock monkey for Christmas, this time with little socks of his own and a knit cap, both accessories made of sock monkey sock material.  A fine addition.

I got monkey sheets too, Tamidala...  Not the Target ones though, which were sold out I guess when my mother went on the hunt for them.  Disappointing but they may still be online when I get a chance to spend some money on something for myself, haha.
