Saga '02-'04 / Best AOTC Anakin EVER!
« on: September 5, 2003, 05:45 AM »
WHOA! I just picked up the Secret Ceremony Anakin and by gawd its the best Anakin figure made. The likeness is pretty close to Hayden and the pose and articulation is top notch. No gimmicks either, no action feature, action pose, or magnets, just a pure well sculpted figure. I was originally going to pass on this one, I thought, why get another Anakin, I already have several POS Anakins, whats another one going to do for me, but when I saw the figure today I was blown away. Why couldn't Hasbro have made this Anakin first???

Saga '02-'04 / Re: OT Figures that were not made in the Vintage Line
« on: September 5, 2003, 05:39 AM »
To continue the nit-pickiness...  :P

- Darth Vader: Emperor's Wrath
- Endor Rebel Soldier (Saga Resculpt)
- Zutton (3rd time is a charm on this character that technically wasn't in the OT but got made in the vintage line)
- POTF2 Regular & Deluxe Hoth Rebel Soldiers (significantly different than what vintage was)
- The blue treadmill droid that came with Aunt Beru
- A case can be made for R5-D4 too, since the 97 figure was a radical interpretation of what the character looked like

Also I don't think you should include SE characters in the list, just because the SE didn't exist during the vintage line.

Customs Community and Group Projects / Re: Custom Figures & eBay!
« on: August 31, 2003, 01:45 AM »
these auctions are one of the reasons i'm against selling customs. some of these people not only are scamming someone (especially the clonetrooper one, $33 for 3 red clones repainted? I just bought 3 at kb for $6 total!) but because of the scamming they are giving the customizing community a bad name. people have an inherent ability to link one person to an entire group and thats what happens often in these situations. there are many who sell their customs because they need to make money and while I reckon thats a bit more understandable, if they arent good customizers they are selling garbage (the clonetroopers again) to people who could have made the customs themselves for a lot less. then you have the whole vintage repro issue, couldnt people tell that the stormtrooper wasnt in the best condition anyways? sheesh a fool and their money... ok enough ranting now  ;D

Vintage Kenner / Re: Help! I'm having collecting issues!
« on: August 31, 2003, 01:36 AM »
Well it sounds like had you already made your decision earlier in the month by selling off your modern collection. I guess my reply will be for those who may be in similar situations, of course in the end always do what you think is best. I would however suggest that you keep your modern collection, in fact keep collecting those things you like and collect alongside with vintage. I have been collecting vintage for 15 or so years now, and when the modern line came in 95 it did hamper my vintage collecting a bit as I spent more money on POTF2 than vintage, but I didnt stop with the vintage, I just put it on hold every now and then. In fact recently I made my first vintage purchases in two years (my first on ebay in 4 years) and I'm ecstatic, a couple of the items I got in fact will go alongside some of my modern toys. Unlike many vintage collectors who believe modern toys are a bane on the existence of star wars toys and think they're mass overproduced junk (remember vintage toys were extremely mass produced, something like a quarter of a billion figures were made in a 7 years span), I find that they complement each other in many ways. That may come about as I tend to display all my toys in a diorama like fashion and its nice to see mixtures of both lines in to make one huge battle scene. Hope that helps someone down the road...  :D

« on: August 28, 2003, 01:02 AM »
check out Targets, I just picked up the Jedi 3-pk tonite and it rang up for $9.99 which should be the price for all of these sets, a pretty good deal.

Vintage Kenner / Re: eBays $100. 12 Back Auctions
« on: August 27, 2003, 02:25 AM »
wow after reading the thread on scum, it sure is an ugly situation. i'd just leave the negative feedback for her opting out on the auction and file a non-selling seller action against her. sure she's doing the right business move by cancelling so she can sell for more (her excuse doesn't hold much weight with me), but by doing so she will have to be prepared to deal with those consequences. so long as no one actually lost money, they should just leave the negative feedback and whatnot, and just move on looking for the next good deal.

I still don't get why you'd make these things to sell them though, unless he's in need of some cash flow which then is understandable.  To me though, when I accomplished a to-scale Falcon I'd wanna play with it. :)  Heft it on my back and make "Woosh" sounds while running with it in my front yard...  My plume of long hair (in the back) flowing as I ran...

yay the Mullet strikes again! seriously though, I can't believe he's hard pressed for money, in the case of the falcon alone, he probably won't make a lot of money back on the time and money spent making the falcon. if he really needs money, then sell stuff that you don't need to make. the overall effort isn't going to make you large amounts of cash. in the end, as with all of his work, some of which is outstanding (the AT-AT and Sandcrawler) and others which are really a waste (Tantive IV) he just does all this stuff to get notoriety and of course money, half of which we're giving him here in this thread, so I am goin to stop now....  :P

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Montross !!!
« on: August 22, 2003, 10:18 PM »
Though having never played Bounty Hunter and thus not having a reference for him, I can't critique any specific details on this custom, other than to say it looks pretty sweet.  He looks like he's a roided up mandalorian hell-bent on destruction. My only advice to you is to maybe reduce the white in his eyes, makes him look like he's bug-eyed (unless he is supposed to be  :P), that's something I've had problems with on many occassions when repainting a face.

Keep up the great work, happy customizing!

« on: August 22, 2003, 10:10 PM »
I'm really glad that no one fell for that one...  That is a sad attempt to try to fool someone.  Wasn't EPI Mace a peg warmer? ::)

not as much as his Saga counterpart from 4/23, i still see those at full retail prices all over the place. what did hasbro expect its one of their worse figs EVER!

Vintage Kenner / Re: ESB Droid Factory
« on: August 22, 2003, 10:04 PM »
Not as rare as people would like you to believe.

It's probably more hard to find with it's box than the SW Droid Factory and its not exactly a piece of cake to find a complete (or in this case practically complete) Droid Factory. With all the small parts it's no wonder practically ever D.F. auction I've come across has been incomplete. It took me buying two sets just to make one complete one. With that said, the Droid Factory itself isn't a big money maker, in fact in the current vintage market a lot of the playsets/vehicles which were going for big bucks just a year ago aren't selling for too much nowadays. If you go about selling the ESB Droid Factory, you probably will only get bids from those who are serious about collecting items in every form of packaging they came in. At the same time, since the item is opened it won't go for as much as if it was still sealed. Nevertheless, a great find, good luck!

Vintage Kenner / Oooh oooh Yellow Shirt Leia!!!
« on: August 19, 2003, 09:09 PM »
Now you too can get that rare, hard to find, highly sought after Princess Leia with Yellow Shirt from 1977!!! Yes an amazing deal has been found on ebay where for only $8.49 (current price) you can get this awesome figure....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3141833666&category=2475

I sooooo can't believe anyone actually made bids on this, I don't know who is more of an idiot, the guy who put up the auction or the goofs who made bids. This is right up there with the blue saber Vader I could have gotten for only $50.....
