Man, they didn’t even let Izzy take his solo.  On Appetite, Izzy played the first half of the solo and Slash came in for the second half.  With Axl’s new band, it looks like the same arrangement, where the primarily rhythm player takes the first solo and the lead player takes Slash’s solo.  But, come on, if you have the man in the house, why not let him play his part?

Anyway, the link you gave had another recent clip of Axl’s band playing Nightrain much more true to the form of the old days:

Old School Nightrain

Also, poking around some of those videos came up with these videos from a 1986 show.  Nothing mind shattering, but I enjoyed the pre-AFD versions of Don’t Cry and Back Off Bitch.  Note also that Axl has not yet gotten the Appetite cross and skulls tattoo.

Please get the conversation back on topic, or I will be forced to lock this thread.

I agree with all of you guys.  I've had Tampa Bay slated as my pick for this week since about week 4.  But for some reason, I've got the heebie-jeebies about it.  Mostly because the 49ers are going to start Dorsey, who has much more experience than Alex Smith, and the Bucs are going with Simms, who has very little experience.  I guess I just have a nagging feeling that the Bucs could come in flat (this is a team that couldn't score more than 12 against the Testaverde-driven Jets a couple weeks ago), and this one could be a shocker.  Plus, I'm sure the vast majority of the other 11 people left are going to go with the Bucs, so an upset would be advantageous.

It sucks because with Houston and SF this year, everyone is basically picking the same teams (whoever plays one of them), and thus you have so many left this deep in the season which, in my experience is unusual.  So it seeems like not getting caught in an upset is going to be the way to survive.

Anyway, thanks again, everyone.  I'lll probably go with Tampa.

Gentlemen,

I'm in a suicide pool (pick one game/week; no spread) and have narrowed my choices this week down to the following.  Of these, which do you think is most likely to win this weekend and why?

Buccaneers over 49ers
Patriots over Bills
Cowboys over Cardinals

Thanks in advance,

 :)

« on: October 19, 2005, 11:47 AM »
Agree with the others that "hard rock" is a vague category, but I'll give it a go anyway.

First if you haven't already, check out Velvet Revolver.  They have one album ("Contraband") and it's not the greatest record you ever heard, but it's a pretty decent straight-ahead rock and roll album.

Second, check out L.A. Guns' first record ("L.A. Guns").  It's very raw and not like their later, more "hair band-ish" records.  Like AC/DC, all the songs on the record sound the same, but it works because it happens to be one great ******' song.

As for something truly "lesser known," check out the first album by Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction ("Tattooed Beat Messiah").  These guys were moderately successful in the UK for about 2 weeks in the 80s before dropping off the face of the earth, but this record really rocks.

Finally, and this is really hard to admit, but I absolutely love the debut albums of both Faster Pussycat and the Bulletboys.  In both cases, you have to get past the hair spray and the lipstick, but if you can do that they're both great, extremely simple, three-chord rock and roll parties.

I'll let you know if you think of any more.  Do tell what you're currently listening to that you're getting sick of.  If you like AC/DC, Guns N Roses or any 1980s pop "metal" (using that word very loosely), I think you would like all of the above.

I can't quit thinking about this picture.

Is that what kids are calling it these days?

Did I ever tell you guys about the time my mom walked in on me thinking about the lingerie section of the Sears catalogue ?  I've never really gotten over that one.
