I agree that this one is better than the Anakin figure they recently put up for pre-order. Everytime I see a new one of these I wish I had quit with Hasbro's dolls a long time ago so I could have collected this line. :-\

His tunic is the wrong color. In the Sideshow photo it looks white, as opposed to beige. It looks more like the color outfit he wore in E1.
I looked closely at a lot of Sideshow figures at a collector shop the other day and I wasn't too impressed by the faces. Sure, they're better than Hasbro's, but they still seemed unable to nail specific likenesses. I'm on the fence with this line, and may cancel my pre-orders...

That likeness is pretty sweet in my book.
So it'll be available for preorder on January 6th. I'm amazed how quickly they moved from this sneak preview to being able to order it. I'd have thought they'd let the excitement build a little longer like their Premium Format figures (statues).

I really can not understand what the problem is with the likenesses. How can they get much better? Really? I know everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you don't like it then you just don't like it. That's cool and all. I get that.
However, I just can't see how they can get any better for a 12 inch toy/collectible? Unless they just get lucky and truly "nail" it. This is leaps and bounds better than anything Hasbro would have put out there head sculpt wise. Just remember those God awful smiling Mace and Gui-Gon Jinn figures :)
I am not saying this figure is perfect but really it does not get all that much better. If they can get it better that is great but realistically these are not going to be mirror images of what we see in the films. This is pretty darn close for 12 inch collectable IMO.

Looks like another nice one coming from Sideshow. This would really be a great line to collect, and a nice way to "start fresh" with the 12" collection. I agree with what was said earlier, so far these figures have just been miles ahead of what Hasbro released, and it looks like the line is in good hands. As far as 3 Jedi in a row now, is it safe to say this first year will be all Jedi? Or at least the first 6 or so figures? I wasn't sure if that was the plan or not. If so, maybe I could justify the price a little better since I'd be much more limited. I'd really like to get the Luke figure (even though its pretty well sold out everywhere now), and just stick to some OT ones here and there from then on out. If this is a Jedi year, that might just mean one figure this year unless we get an "old" Obi-Wan as well. Anyways, figure looks good.

From a financial POV, it makes sense for Sideshow to start off with humans. They can take their standard 12" body and simply tool new heads. It's a very small investment relative to their "payback."
Clothing requires no investment and the accessories are very cheap to tool.

Ok, I am going to try to get Obi-Wan on Friday. Since I will be at work, it will be hit and miss in the afternoon. I do have a question for all you Sideshow veterans. Is the 10:00am start time just a guess or is it fact? That would make it 1:00 my time and I might be able to have a shot at it.
Also, is Sideshow similiar to Master Replica so it's a few months down the road after you order an item before it ships?? (or in some cases almost a year!!)

It's just a ballpark figure - they're saying it'll be somewhere between 10 and noon when it starts.

Definitely. I pre-ordered my Darth Vader statue in February and it's only finally being released this month.

I'm honestly getting a bit worn out by the constant necessity of camping at the Sideshow site to make sure I'm able to buy a product that should be much, much more mass market.
I don’t want to get too deep or completist into this line if a new figure is going to constantly be on preorder every 3-4 weeks, and that each time will have ony an hour’s window to lock down. I may be calling it quits with the first two and reserving any future purchases from the line to characters I really, really want.

One thing I can't figure out is why they don't increase their production numbers. If they can sell out the exclusive version in a couple hours and the regular version in a couple days, wouldn't it make sense to simply make more of these?

Because then you have the collectors who will piss and moan about how exclusive and rare they used to be, and how they aren't anymore.
Besides, they could just raise the price. ::)

Exclusive Edition includes an accessory(s) that the standard release doesn't include. That info isn't release until pre-ordering starts though.

So I think I'll just grab the EE and pay the extra money. I seem to recall reading about all this in the other threads about Anakin and Luke. I don't recall it being anything major but I am sure I will want it just the same. :-\

I just recently signed on at sideshow for the newsletter and online account. It still says I'm not able to pre-order but I think that's because my "trial" period hasn't ended yet (needs to be 2 days I believe). If I'm able to pre-order this, I will. I missed the Luke and Anakin, but am on the backorder list so hopefully enough people cancel or missed a number on their credit card so I'll be able to purchase them.
I didn't collect the 12" Hasbro, only picking up the 12" Han and Taunton, but these look amazing and too good to pass up.

Very nice. From the looks of the 3 figures so far, Sideshow is going to do a great job with this line. I know I'm awfully tempted, all three have looked great. Too bad they seem to be such a pain to order/get. If I did buy in, I'd probably just stick to some of the OT characters, I can't afford them all. It still pains me I didn't order Luke when he was available. If/when a Han comes up for sale, I'm going to do my best not to miss the boat again :). Thanks for posting those pics, the Obi-Wan looks quite good.

It certainly wasn't stupid like this when I've ordered the statues (this is the first time I've attempted the 12" figure).
I may just say to heck with it and wait for the regular version. Grievous' blaster isn't that big a deal to me. :-\

As far as I know, once the EE is sold out, the regular version immediately goes on sale. I think it usually takes a couple days to sell out, so you should have time.

I think I was on the website just right before it went on sale. I don't know if that made a bit of difference, but I only refreshed about three times and then the order page showed up. Like you said, once that came, everything went smoothly.

Exclusive succes! ;D Ordering was alot less painful this time. Still got the error page a few times, but their streamline ordering method is a great improvement over the last time.
Kudos to SSC for listening to it's customers, and the ultra quick implementations to upgrade their servers.

They lost me on this one. Gee, I had a meeting at work and couldn't sit around the computer waiting for the exclusive Obi-Wan.
That takes me out of the completist mode on this line, which is ok actually, like I was thinking earlier.

I cancelled my Anakin and Luke today. I can't stand Sideshow as a company. Hasbro may be clueless, but this company is downright foolish. It bums me out too. For a long time I've waited for affordable, nice looking 12" figures. Now that they're here, they're a pain in the can to get. Screw 'em. I just saved tons of money over the next few years.

I'm also considering canceling my Anakin and Luke orders. I honestly regret that I have to think about doing this, as I have a sincere admiration for Sideshow's goal of producing quality collector items, and I'm a big fan of their Premium Format SW statues. But since their production numbers on these are so low and the frequency that will seemingly be necessary to be chained to the 'net to lock in items tells me I won't have the patience or the luck necessary to collect them all.
I'll go out of my way for items I see as must have, but not ones I simply like or have moderate interest in. Both Luke and Anakin fall under the latter.
I wonder how many folks they alienated in a similar way right out the gate with Jedi Luke.

As much as the exclusives annoy me i am excited about this line. I think my hopes will be let down in soem way though. I want amazing things like a Jabba in 12 scale.

So, I'm now resigned to the fact that I want to get that SDCC "Darth Vader / Sith Eyes Anakin" exclusive (I'm all signed up at Sideshow to pre-order), but in order to display him, I kind of want the Obi-Wan to go with him.
Anyone know where I can find an Obi-Wan at this point? It doesn't have to be the exclusive version, just the regular will do.
I see they are "sold out" or "pre-sold out" at most places - is the Sideshow Wait List my best bet? :-\

It doesn't hurt to try. I'm on the waiting list for both Luke and the regular Anakin and my status hasn't changed, but some people have had better luck. If you do find him later, you can always cancel your wait list.

Have you tried www.legendsaf.com? I know they were taking preorders but I can't check to see if they're presold out or not (work computer doesn't have Flash). They're a Canadian company but probably the best in the country.

Obi Wan's coming ;D He should arrived in the States in the next 15 days. Getting excited about the good stuff coming - Han and now Obi Wan. I'd imagine Mace won't be too far behind.
I also finally got my Detolfs and they look sweet on either side of my TV. Just need to fix Anakin's arm problem and get him displayed and then I'll take some pics.

I received mine today and he looks great next to the SS Anakin! I already know I'll never use one of the hands since I did not get the exclusive. Kind of a shame that he still comes with a hand whose only purpose is to hold a gun. I would've liked another "force wield" hand similar to the Jedi Mind Trick gesture.

That's not the hand's only use. You can use the blaster trigger hand to simulate Obi-Wan stroking his beard in the scene where he delivers Luke to Owen and Beru. It's one of the more iconic poses in ROTS.

Seriously though, your pics look awesome! I've yet to receive Han, Mace or Obi Wan because I didn't order through Sideshow. It's almost worth paying the extra $5-10 to receive the figures on time with everyone else!

My favorite
doll large action figure ;) is Obi-Wan. No particular reason since all the dolls figures so far are fantastic but he seems to be just about perfect. The clothing color and facial sculpt is right on and the cloak/hood fit perfect over his tunic. I like the extra hands for the gun and/or chin stroke along with the force push and double hand grip on saber. The breathing mask is the only item that is useless. I can't put it in his mouth and it doesn't fit in his pouches but no big deal really.

I'm sure many of you got the Sideshow Express email today with some Distressed Box Sales. I went ahead and took the bait on the Obi-Wan Kenobi one for $40. I'm hoping that my order goes through as the price seems pretty good, especially considering the newer $60-90 price tags.

You'll definitely enjoy this figure...my Sideshow figures have a nice spot set aside in the collection room.

I got me confirmation message from sideshow last night and they will be sending him out within the next 2 days.
I almost pulled the trigger on the Luke and the Mechano Chair but I just wasn't ready to commit that much at once. Although I could have gotten Obi Wan and Luke for the same price as the Clone Wars General Kenobi!

My "Distressed Box" Obi-Wan arrived today. I put the distressed in quotes as I couldn't find any real distress. There was minor wear as would be expected on something with a shiny finish. However, there was not dents, dings or scratches that I could see. When I opened the figure, I saw the Obi-Wan's head was turned to one side and one of his feet was sort of pigeon toed inwards. I guess that's the distressed part. However, since I was opening him up there was absolutely no issues on my side!
Very pleased with the figure. This is my first Jedi in what will likely be a growing collection.
As an added bonus, they include a gift card in the package - turned out to be $30 so I may go and invest in another 12" figure. Looks like Bespin Luke still qualifies.

Hmmn...maybe you could bring him out to the fire pit and let a few of the sparks and ashes do the work? You don't want to melt him, but I'm thinking that might char his clothes a bit for you.

Some black chalk, ground up, would do some tricks if you used it sparingly too Jayson. Be careful if you attempt any actual flame-work on the fringe/edges of his outfit to damage it. Some materials burn quickly compared to others. I'm sure it'd be possible though, to get a very realistic effect if you're very cautious.
Obi's robes were singed in the movie, but there were very few large "burns" on them. A couple here and there that looked like a hole had formed from some ash or something, but that was about it.

Thanks, that's a good idea with the chalk. I was also thinking of using the bristles of a toothbrush to "flick" a diluted wash of black paint and water to get a random splattering. I'm wanting to try some sort of burning technique maybe with soldering iron to burn a few holes in the costume. I'm also going to use the water bath technique to get the clothing to lay a bit more naturally as they are a little poofy by nature.

Finished my attempt at the Mustafar Duel Obi-Wan. I'm pretty happy with the result and it's unique to my collection. Now to find a cheap ROTS Anakin. 8)

The hilts and boots have evolved so much in Sideshow 12 inches line. The texture of the clothes is very accurate also.
