Title: DC Universe Classics
Post by: Brian on February 13, 2010, 11:19 AM
I'm hoping we see a few new things at Toy Fair this weekend for the DCUC line.  I'm sure we'll see this wave, and probably the two previous, but hopefully we'll get a glimpse at a little something more as well.  I know they sometimes like to save stuff for NYCC as well though, so we'll see if that happens this year or not.

As a side note, I broke down an ordered the rest of the figures to complete Kilowog.  Like Mikey mentioned earlier in this thread, they (at least the ones I needed) were all Green Lantern related anyways - and I hoped to get to them eventually - so I went ahead and ordered them.  They should be here Monday, excited to see Kilowog when completed.

I want to see more of the Retro Cloth Line....

I got the Green Arrow, but I really want to see they have planned.  I just wish they could get all the characters they had back in the Mego days...

Not much for pictures yet that I've seen, but it sounds like Wal-Mart will be getting an exclusive 5 pack including the following:

Guy Gardner
Tomar Re
Hal Jordan (with grey temples)
John Stewart (Mosaic costume)
Sinestro (in GL costume)

Kind of nice to see some more Lanterns on the way, but all the WM exclusives sure make it a pain.

They only had Guy and Tomar on display (2-ups of each) but both looked fabulous.  :)

Sounds like John and Hal are just simple repaints.  Sinestro will use the Hal body with the existing Sinestro head.

I don't know if we will get my Mattel/DC pics up today, but they'll get posted eventually...

Just got the Darkseid wave yesterday.  Another awesome wave - the figures are all really well done.  I didn't really care about Darkseid, as I was very happy with the DC Superheroes one.  Now that they're side by side, I really like the new one.  He's a touch big, but the old one was a bit too small.  So while neither are perfect I think the new one is an improvement.

Looking forward to Trigon.  Not looking forward to hunting down Ultra-Humanite.  Curious to see what comes next.

I only have Hawkman and Hawkwoman from this line, and I have been resisting it so far, but I need that Spectre and now that they are making Metal Men, I'll have to grab those also.  Oh, and any DCU vs MOTU they make.

I mentioned this in the JLU thread, but I noticed our local Target (post reset) has DCUC priced at $14.99 now.  I know Target is sometimes known for setting higher prices (particularly right after a reset), and then lowering them, but if other retailers follow suit that is getting a bit spendy.  Wal-Mart here seems to not be carrying DCUC (again) currently, and TRU just has a ton of Captain Colds on the pegs.  I've pretty much always ordered DCUC online (aside from exclusives), and will likely continue to, but it is a sad state at retail here currently.  If the prices are going to be $15-20 a figure, I'll get even more selective with this line that I already was.  It is too bad really, because it is some of the most consistently good work in the action figure area these days I think.

$15 here as well.  That's likely enough to drive me away as I've already completed the lineup of nearly all DC characters that I want.

Any chance anyone has some Darkseid BAF parts they don't need? I am more than happy to pay for shipping and and a few extra bucks for the parts.

Saw wave 11 today at our TRU and they're up to $19.99 (so $22.38 after taxes)  :o  I decided to be done with these a while ago but ouch.

$20?  Wow, I thought Target was outrageous at $16.  That's crazy.

Yeah, the prices have really been getting out of hand lately for this line.  I mean, I guess it isn't entirely out of line when I see Marvel Universe figures for $8, Justice League Unlimited for $9, and others.  I guess Star Wars doesn't seem quite as bad anymore at $7.  Our local stores have all been around the $15-$16 range, but it really is getting pricey.  I've been slowing down a bit on these anyways, and the price hikes will probably cause me to do that even more so - as awesome as they are.

We were at TRU today and I checked the DCUC pegs and noticed they were filled with "All Star" figures - but they were all Green Lantern (8 of them, actually).  I'm glad they are keeping some of the "best of the best" of the big names out there, but that seemed a little skewed and I have a hard time believing everything else sold but GL.  Are they putting solid cases out there of him (or maybe just at TRU?)  Anyways, I do hope they continue to do this All-Star re-releases every so often, and mix in something like last year's WM exclusive Joker and others in the future.

TRU has exclusive of GL, Flah, and Batman. I believe they are full cases of each. They have different paint jobs

I forgot to mention that I saw one of the WM exclusive 2 packs with the repainted Batman and Robin.  I was half tempted to pick one up, but it was $30, and it just felt a little too steep for what it was.  Sure, $15 each is the going rate for DCUC now, but I figured I'd just hold out for a Dick Grayson Robin instead.

Really?  I've seen Batman and Flash and they look no different.  I saw them both at Wal-Mart though...are there exclusive to TRU that have the different paint?  The GL is definitely different, and I like it quite a bit more than the wave 3 figure.

I saw the Aquaman/Manta 2-pack twice but haven't seen Batman & Robin yet.  I like the Aquaman but don't care much for the Manta.

I nabbed the Batman & Robin set last night.  Robin's still too short.  :P  I like the paint scheme on Robin but I still didn't feel right spending $30 on it.

Well, my Dick Grayson Robin prayers have been answered.  Yay!!!
Looking at the rest of the stuff in this presentation it will be expensive to be a DC fan in the next year.

And the MattyCollector Legion 12 pack?  Awesome.  But I'm terrified to see how much it will be.   Nice touch with Invisible Kid.

Are the Mattel exclusives supposed to hit Matty today for sale?  I couldn't remember for sure, but I'd like to pick up Plastic Man and Orko - but I'm sure it is going to be a bloodbath.

Last I heard, it was August 2nd...

"For those who can’t attend the show, we’ll also offer limited quantities of these products after the show here at MattyCollector.com on 8/2 at 9 a.m. PT (noon ET), although the SDCC-exclusive Starro Spores and Plastic Man suitcase won’t be included, and Orko won’t have color-change features. More details will come on this special sale as it gets closer."

Thanks Jeff, that's what I thought I had read too - but I've seen some people saying "its going to be crazy tomorrow at Matty", so I just wanted to make sure.  Nice to have a little break, since I can't get a HTS order to go through now the way it is already :).

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like it has been a little quiet on the DCUC front lately.  I have been seeing some of Wave 13 at our Wal-Marts, but I guess there wasn't a ton there that interested me - and what I did want shipped from BBTS awhile ago.  I'm hoping the WM wave starts hitting soon, although I think I'm just chasing after Zatanna (actually two of them, one for our daughter) from that wave.  If waves 14, 15, and 16 are all supposed to hit this year yet, it is going to be a packed few months.

I wouldn't be shocked if 15 shows before 14.  14 being a Walmart Exclusive stinks.  Their exclusives are always a pain to find and I really want Gold, Zatanna and Alan Scott.

Wave 15 is on the boats from China as we speak and should be here shortly (at least for the major etailers).

Wave 14 is indeed delayed, most likely until November.

I expect 16 to hit in full force just after the holidays, but you may see them trickle out in a few places before the end of the year.

I received the Wave 15 figures I preordered via BBTS this week (Martian Manhunter, Raven, Sinestro Corps Batman).  All are very well done, and I'm especially happy to finally add Mr. J'onzz to the shelf.  Now just looking forward to Zatanna from the WM wave, and then Wave 16.

Anyone having any luck with the K-Mart sale?  The two in my area are stocked with wave 13, though I did find a Batman and classic Starman at one on Sunday.  Aside from that "what we have on the shelves is all we have".  :|

Nice.  With Swamp Thing reappearing in Brightest Day, I was just thinking that he would make an awesome DCUC figure.
Now they just need to make a Huntress, and I think most of my want list is done.  Though I'm sure I could come up with 20-30 more I would like to see.

I'm curious to hear more about the Legion box set, but scared to see a price on it.

It seems like DC news was a little quiet at NYCC (toy-wise), but I did see a write up over at TheFwoosh detailing a few new things.  It looks like Larfleeze is on the way next year, and they said it was for general release.  I'd have to think this must be for the next/new DC 6" line, since I thought the remaining DCUC waves were all announced/locked down now.  They also continue to say that the next line will be more "big name" focused, so I didn't know if he'd fit in there or not.  That's one I'd really like to pick up.

Very similar to a White Lantern Hal Jordan, except faster and with less jewelry.

I was just looking through some of the SDCC stuff again, and was curious...is Mattel continuing the DC Unlimited and/or Batman Unlimited lines past this year?  Aside from the Matty subscription figures, the only new 6" scale stuff I saw really was the new "Total Heroes" line that was the main characters, and sort of an animated-ish style.  They also have a 4" line (DC Multiverse?) on the way.  I think the kiddo Batman line is continuing as well.  Just wondering if anyone read anything differently, or if the DC Comic figures (at retail) are essentially done at the end of the year?
Title: Re: DC Unlimited

is Mattel continuing the DC Unlimited and/or Batman Unlimited lines past this year?

I'm pretty sure I read that they are dead and some of the remaining stuff cancelled.  A few of the 'lost' figures (like Damian Robin) may end up in the DCIE subsciption.

It's kind of funny.  Just as Hasbro is making a push into the 6" scale with Star Wars, Mattel is taking the opposite with DC - killing Collector 6" at retail and replacing with a mass-market 4" collector line (DC Multiverse) and a 3.75" Batman line for kids.

the only new 6" scale stuff I saw really was the new "Total Heroes" line that was the main characters, and sort of an animated-ish style.

Yeah, I think they are hoping for some collector bites, but they look pretty "kid-friendly" to me.  They have nice articulation, but the exaggerated oversized weapons are the clue they've not for collectors (for instance, how Sinestro's weapon has the 'hook' at the bottom, indicating it goes with some sort of launcher).

Pretty much just the latest round of "Rescue Heroes" type of figures...
Title: Re: DC Universe Classics
Post by: Brian on August 15, 2013, 08:39 PM
Thanks Jeff, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure.  I guess I'm ok with it, since I pretty much have everything I'd want from this scale anyways.  I've mainly been grabbing the Batman-related stuff (and was sort of looking forward to the Damian Robin), and would continue to if we see any others.  I guess there is still the Infinite Earths stuff through Matty, if those continue.  I'm really hoping to be able to get Huntress next month, we'll see.  Overall though, the DCUC had a pretty good run.  Pretty deep into character selection, and they were sort of starting to do a lot of "New 52" versions of the main characters now anyways in that line.
Title: Re: DC Universe Classics
Post by: Brian on August 16, 2013, 09:17 PM
I see now that the Infinite Earths subs are struggling to meet their goal (on Monday), Mattel has announced that the Damian Wayne figure is now subscription exclusive (as in not available day-of-sale).  I wasn't planning on getting the sub anyways, but I'm a little disappointed I won't be able to get a hold of that figure (at least at a decent price).  Sounds like numbers are pretty low for the subs this time around, we'll see if they magically soar up above the goal by Monday again.
Title: Re: DC Universe Classics
Post by: evenflow on August 19, 2013, 10:59 AM
I really just want Doomsday so cant justify a sub. With that I actually want both versions of Doomsday and that doesnt seem possible at all.
Title: Re: DC Universe Classics
Post by: Brian on August 20, 2013, 08:45 PM
So it looks like the DC Infinite Earths sub didn't reach their goal (its official now, the way it looks).  Personally, I've never had the sub, but it is sort of sad to see the line go.  They mentioned in the press release that it may be possible to do quarterly figures (at higher prices) or maybe even monthly (again, at higher prices), but they had to do some internal discussions before that was released.  This is another line that has covered a ton of stuff, but it doesn't seem that long ago that we were seeing so many waves per year released, and now they can't even keep a monthly subscription service going.  Might be the end (or near) of DC collector figures from Mattel - at least for now.
Title: Re: DC Universe Classics
Post by: drewlam on August 21, 2013, 09:58 AM
I'm sad to see it go, but I'm one of the people who had the sub for the first two years, and didn't renew this year.  The figures announced looked good, but costs were getting high and I felt I already had most of the "must have" figures.  Although I'm a big enough DC fan that I want *most* of the figures, I have been in it since wave 1 of DCUC.  After 18 waves of that, 2 waves of green lantern, 2 years of subscription and assorted box sets and exclusives, plus some of the early DC Superheroes ones - I've got a ton of figures.

Even still, it really came down to cost for me.  This past year each figure has been around $32 after shipping (to Canada).  Quarterly shipping would have helped, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit the money this time around.

The line has lasted a lot longer than I ever could have imagined, and we've got some really cool stuff out of it.  If anything I say thanks to Mattel for making it last as long as it did.  Superpowers was the previous high-water mark for DC figures for me, and this line blew it away.

Hey guys.  I'm selling off my entire Marvel Legends and DCUC collection.  Take a look at my sale thread at the fwoosh and let me know if you want anything.

There's still a lot of older things not listed yet, so if there's something you want, let me know and I probably have it.

How have your sales gone Mikey? I mentioned this in another thread, but I've been significantly downsizing my DC figs as well. I decided to pare things down to the "Super Powers" crowd, as well as my Flash and Batman collections. Most everything else has been going. I always had intentions of fleshing out my vintage Suoer Powers figures, and this will help me get the few I want. Hope your sales have gone well.
