Am I the only one who forgot to set a roster this week?  I set it up to get a email reminder from Yahoo and I never got one this week - I tried to change it at 9:30 this morning but it was already locked down...

Kevin Smith probably fits the bill up until Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - but I'd have to look into the production to give an informed opinion on it.  Chasing Amy, Clerks, Mallrats are definitely on that side of the somewhat meaningless label...

Thanks for the tips DBK, I'll start there later in the year when I start shopping lenses.

Josh, have you ever had any problems with your Tamron lens?  The (film) Rebel that I used through college had a Tamron 28:80 on it and it was decent, but never spectacular, and then one day stopped working.

Yeah, only new or extended hyperspace subscriptions get a vote.  It's pretty much an attempt to revive struggling membership, and I doubt it will have much effect.  The people who are registering probably aren't doing it BECAUSE of the contest.

JD is getting ready to endorse a candidate as well.   ;)

Rob had a great post too in regards to this "election" mirroring our real presidential election(s) - he who has the most money wins!

Yet somehow I had to go in there again and spell it out for Mark_Rebelscum...  ::)

28 Days Later - Foreign sure, but indie?  With a budget of 8 million and Fox Search Light as a US distributor, maybe.  But it picked up steam and played in 1400 theaters and grossed over 45 million domestic.  And it's still a Danny Boyle film and he did it for less money on purpose and the DVD is still available on the $10.00 rack right infront of the registers at Target and has sold copies out the ass for the better part of 2 years.  It started off that way, but sure didn't end up that way.

Almost Famous -  With a 60 million dollar production budget, directed by a big name director, and released in over 2,200 theaters... an indie film?  Not even close.

American History X - It played in fewer theaters (500) so maybe, but with a production budget around 20 million dollars and a distribution deal with New Line, it's hard to say that it was really an indie film.

A Bronx Tale - Made for Television but somehow managed to find its way into 1,100 theaters and starred Robert Dinero

Indie films are things that have hardly any studio backing and small budgets.  Hardly any of these fit the bill to a tee.  So for the sake of argument I'll give you 28 Days later and A Bronx Tale, I'd lean no on American History X.  Almost Famous is a definite no.

Rebel XT is a great camera, but like any camera....it's only as good as the lens you've got on it.  So....what did you get?

For now I've got the 18-55 Canon lens that came with the kit.  While it's not top-of-the-line it's not horrible either.  I've also got a slightly nicer one (27-80 or something like that...) that we got when we bought our Elan 7e a few years ago.  It may or may not be L-series, I've got to get it out and check.

Given the already large cost of what I've bought this week, I decided that a better lens would have to wait until later in the year.   I'd like to get something around 200mm (or 300mm if I'm feeling crazy) and I'd like to get a nice wide-angle lens.  I'd probably be looking into L-series lenses when that day comes (I'm a Canon whore).

Stop it ghuys.

I actually contemplated trying to get some sponsors after I saw the prizes one would get....but I doubt I could compete with the Rebelscum machine.

However....it made for an interesting question.  What if someone else did run?  Could they promote their campaign on RS?  I know someone "from JD" probably couldn't....but what if I did?

Everyone knows I love that site.  So if I "ran" (and I'm only being hypothetical here), would I get in trouble for mentioning it at Rebelscum?

There would be the ultimate hypocrisy if (even a JD member) couldn't mention their candidacy for the SW.com fan club president position.  That person wouldn't be advertising JD, they'd be advertising themselves.

It shouldn't be colman - he lives right down the street from Comic Con.

NOMINATE ME!!!

I could run under my old Zod monicker...

9372
That IS the dumbest thing I've ever heard of... I could shell out 350 bucks and make 7 fake accounts right now and be the frontrunner?  Yikes.  That's about the same amount of money I'd spend on a plane ticket to Comic Con anyway - and they'll cover it if I win.

Vote for me everyone!

I dunno, I think this isn't as big a deal.  Doesn't RS have sponsorship deals with the people that Dustin's linking to?  If so, they wouldn't have any issue with that.

On a surface level, I'd expect nothing less than all the campaign hoopla since one of their main employees is in the running - as obnoxious as it is, and as little as I'd think anyone would be in the whole thing, I don't fault them too much for pushing their own guy.

Although the newspost by Phillip sure does smell like b.s.

It's time to get out the support.

Those with current subscriptions, you can renew now and it will tack on your subscription to the end of your current term.

Can't afford it? That's not so unusual with all the stuff we have to buy for our collections; give one away as a gift to a friend, or ask for one for your birthday. Get it early even.

Or, go wear out your friends and have them sign up.

We need to get this thing moving!

Read all about the campaign here.

Join or renew here.

The plan is only for if it breaks or parts go bad or anything occurs do to normal wear and tear.  I'm going to call State Farm today, but I'm 95% sure that if it's stolen or I lose it I can get it replaced through my regular insurance, minus the deducatble.  The irony of course is that if I drop it and break it, State Farm won't replace it - but if I drop it off the side of a mountain and can't find it at the bottom, they'll replace it as lost.

As for being in another country and crime - it's always possible, but New Zealand isn't the den of crime that some of the bigger cities that I've been through in Europe are.  I'm pretty good about keeping my bag wrapped around an arm or a leg at all times and such.  In the end, I'm a pretty experienecd traveller and always do my best to not look like a tourist...  I'm 10 times more worried that I'll drop it than I am about theft.

It's pouring here - for only about the second time in the last 5 months.  It's great.
